Background: There is a need for better implementation of patient‐centred (PC) communication and shared decision‐making (SDM) in routine cancer care. Objective: The aim of this study was to assess whether a programme to implement SDM in oncology had effects on PC communication in clinical encounters. Design: This study constitutes a secondary analysis of data derived from an implementation trial applying a stepped wedge design that, among other strategies, incorporated training and coaching to enhance the PC communication skills of physicians. Setting and Participants: We analysed audio recordings of clinical encounters collected in three departments of a comprehensive cancer centre in Germany before and after rolling out the implementation programme. Main Variables Studied: We assessed the PC communication skills of physicians. Main Outcome Measures: Each recording was rated by two researchers using the German version of the Four Habits Coding Scheme (4HCS), an observer‐based measure of PC communication. Interrater reliability of the outcome measure was acceptable but moderate. Demographic data of patients participating in audio recordings were analysed. Methods: Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and linear mixed‐effects models. Results: In total, 146 encounters, 74 before and 72 after implementation, were evaluated. The mean age of patients was 57.1 years (SD = 13.8), 70.3% were female, the largest portion of patients had medium formal education (32.4%) and were (self‐) employed (37.8%). No statistically significant effect of the implementation programme on the physicians' PC communication skills was found. Discussion: The results indicate that the investigated programme to implement SDM in oncology, including training and coaching, had no effects on PC communication in clinical encounters. These results are in contrast to other studies that report the effects of specific training or coaching on PC communication. Reasons for the lack of effect include the short duration of our training compared to other studies, limited reliability and moderate interrater reliability of the 4HCS scale, limited reach of the intervention programme as well as the inclusion of physicians regardless of their exposure to the interventions. Conclusion: Further research is needed to develop implementation strategies that improve physicians' PC communication skills. Sedimentary carbonates are known to be carried into the deep mantle by subducted slabs, and studies on mantle‐derived magmas have attempted to trace the recycled carbonate in their mantle source. However, the final depth of storage of recycled carbonate and the role of recycled carbonate in the partial melting of mantle remain controversial. Peralkaline‐carbonatite suites are considered to have been derived from a carbonated mantle source and are windows to evaluate carbon in the mantle. In this study, we report the Zn isotopic compositions of a peralkaline‐carbonatite suite from the Tarim Large Igneous Province (Tarim LIP). The peralkaline‐carbonatite suite has heavier δ66Zn than normal mantle with δ66Zn of 0.34–0.40 ‰ for nephelinite, 0.35–0.47 ‰ for aillikite, 0.51–0.55 ‰ for nepheline syenite, 0.58–0.67 ‰ for calciocarbonatite and 0.38–0.56 ‰ for magnesiocarbonatite. The heavy Zn isotopic compositions of the peralkaline‐carbonatite suite in the Wajilitag complex suggest the incorporation of recycled carbonate‐bearing materials into the deep mantle. We infer that the calciocarbonatite was produced by the initial partial melting of subducted MgSiO3/MgO + C‐bearing carbonated eclogite, whereas the magnesiocarbonatite, aillikite, and nephelinite are considered as reacted melts between carbonated eclogite‐derived melts and peridotite. The heavy Zn isotopic compositions of the nepheline syenite are attributed to fractional crystallization from nephelinite magma in the magma reservoir. Our study highlights the incorporation of carbonated eclogite as an important agent of recycled carbon in the deep mantle and interactions between carbonated eclogite‐derived melts and peridotite lead to the complex lithological heterogeneities in the peralkaline‐carbonatite suite in Tarim LIP. This article discusses the development and evaluation of an e-learning tool for clinicians to assist in counseling esophageal cancer patients. The tool aims to help clinicians take patient preferences into account when making treatment decisions. The e-learning tool consists of a theoretical part that provides information on esophageal cancer treatment options and shared decision-making, as well as a practical part that includes video scenarios for clinicians to practice their skills. The tool was evaluated by clinicians, with the majority finding it relevant and helpful. The authors suggest that integrating this tool can improve shared decision-making skills for clinicians. Archeological evidence from loess sediments from Shangchen on the southeastern Chinese Loess Plateau indicates a suspension of hominin occupation around the time of the early mid‐Pleistocene climate transition, prompting a re‐assessment of climate‐vegetation‐hominin interactions. Loess deposits with in situ lithic records cover the period of hominin occupation and reveal four distinct climate‐vegetation periods (2.1–1.8, 1.8–1.26, 1.26–0.9, and 0.9–0.6 Ma). Major oscillations in climate superimposed upon an aridification trend and an expansion of C4 herbaceous vegetation from about 1.26 Ma may have driven early humans to move to more hospitable locations in the region. Comparison with the record at Nihewan indicates that large‐scale climate oscillations induced disparate hominin responses due to distinctive local environmental conditions. Plain Language Summary: A combination of several lines of evidence suggests that changes in climate and their impacts on the availability of food and shelter from around 1.26 million years ago may have driven the dispersal of early humans from the southeastern Chinese Loess Plateau to more hospitable environments elsewhere in the region. Objective: Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a common allergic disorder, afflicting thousands of human beings. Aberrant mitochondrial dynamics are important pathological elements for various immune cell dysfunctions and allergic diseases. However, the connection between mitochondrial dynamics and AR remains poorly understood. This study aimed to determine whether mitochondrial dynamics influence the inflammatory response in AR. Methods: In the present study, we established a murine model of AR by sensitization with ovalbumin (OVA). Then, we investigated the mitochondrial morphology in mice with AR by transmission electron microscopy and confocal fluorescence microscopy, and evaluated the role of Mdivi‐1 (an inhibitor of mitochondrial fission) on allergic symptoms, inflammatory responses, allergic‐related signals, and reactive oxygen species formation. Results: There was a notable enhancement in mitochondrial fragmentation in the nasal mucosa of mice following OVA stimulation, whereas Mdivi‐1 prevented aberrant mitochondrial morphology. Indeed, Mdivi‐1 alleviated the rubbing and sneezing responses in OVA‐sensitized mice. Compared with vehicle‐treated ones, mice treated with Mdivi‐1 exhibited a reduction in interleukin (IL)‐4, IL‐5, and specific IgE levels in both serum and nasal lavage fluid, and shown an amelioration in inflammatory response of nasal mucosa. Meanwhile, Mdivi‐1 treatment was associated with a suppression in JAK2 and STAT6 activation and reactive oxygen species generation, which act as important signaling for allergic response. The analysis of the impact of central environmental protection inspection (CEPI) on corporate environmental, social, and governance（ESG) performance is important for reforming the operation mechanism of CEPI to improve its effectiveness and fundamentally enhance corporate ESG to achieve sustainable development. This paper empirically examines the mechanism of the impact of CEPI on corporate ESG performance using a multi‐period difference‐in‐differences (DID) model with a research sample of 674 listed firms in China from 2013 to 2018. The results show that CEPI can significantly improve corporate ESG performance, and the strengthening of regulation by local governments is a potential channel. The important internal governance mechanisms of foreign and institutional investor shareholding, as well as the external governance mechanisms of analyst following and media coverage, can effectively strengthen the improvement effects. Further analysis also reveals that there are differences in the effectiveness of different inspection approaches, with "look‐back" inspection outperforming routine inspection. Heterogeneity at the firm and regional levels is also a critical factor in causing differences in the effectiveness of ESG performance improvements. This work not only enriches the research on the micro‐effects of CEPI on firms but also provides a reference for firms to improve their ESG performance and use ESG for investment and business decisions. Introduction: For too many people, their care plans are designed without fully accounting for who they are, the lives they live, what matters to them or what they aspire to achieve. We aimed to summarize instruments capable of measuring dimensions of patient–clinician collaboration to make care fit. Methods: We systematically searched several databases (Medline, Embase, Cochrane, Scopus and Web of Science) from inception to September 2021 for studies using quantitative measures to assess, evaluate or rate the work of making care fit by any participant in real‐life clinical encounters. Eligibility was assessed in duplicate. After extracting all items from relevant instruments, we coded them deductively on dimensions relevant to making care fit (as presented in a recent Making Care Fit Manifesto), and inductively on the main action described. Results: We included 189 papers, mostly from North America (N = 83, 44%) and in the context of primary care (N = 54, 29%). Half of the papers (N = 88, 47%) were published in the last 5 years. We found 1243 relevant items to assess efforts of making care fit, included within 151 instruments. Most items related to the dimensions 'Patient‐clinician collaboration: content' (N = 396, 32%) and 'Patient‐clinician collaboration: manner' (N = 382, 31%) and the least related to 'Ongoing and iterative process' (N = 22, 2%) and in 'Minimally disruptive of patient lives' (N = 29, 2%). The items referred to 27 specific actions. Most items referred to 'Informing' (N = 308, 25%) and 'Exploring' (N = 93, 8%), the fewest items referred to 'Following up', 'Comforting' and 'Praising' (each N = 3, 0.2%). Discussion: Measures of the work that patients and clinicians do together to make care fit focus heavily on the content of their collaborations, particularly on exchanging information. Other dimensions and actions previously identified as crucial to making care fit are assessed infrequently or not at all. The breadth of extant measures of making care fit and the lack of appropriate measures of this key construct limit both the assessment and the successful implementation of efforts to improve patient care. The composition and structure of the Yarlung Zangbo Suture Zone (YZSZ) provide important constraints on long‐standing disputes about the evolution of the Neo‐Tethys Ocean and continental collision. The Permian tectonic blocks (mainly composed of limestones and volcanic rocks) are widely distributed in the YZSZ. There are still different understandings about the origin of these blocks and their relationship with the evolution of the Neo‐Tethys Ocean. Here, we report the first reliable palaeomagnetic results of the Permian tectonic blocks in the Gyanyima and Mayum areas, the western segment of the YZSZ. Fossil records and our new zircon U–Pb results provide 254–252 Ma and 249 ± 2 Ma age constraints for the strata in the Gyanyima and Mayum sections, respectively. A total of 109 specimens were subjected to stepwise thermal demagnetizations. Among them, 83 specimens yielded interpretable results. After removing a recent geomagnetic field direction at low to intermediate temperature ranges, characteristic remanent magnetization (ChRM) directions can be isolated from the upper Permian–lower Triassic Gyanyima Formation (Fm). Unblocking temperature spectra of the ChRM indicate magnetite and haematite as the main carriers in the basalt and limestone/andesitic‐basalt samples, respectively. The ChRM passed the fold tests and a reversal test at 95% confidence level, indicating that it is most likely a primary remanence. The tilt‐corrected mean direction for 14 sites is D = 18.0°, I = −14.4°, k = 20.5, and α95 = 9.0°, which corresponds to a palaeolatitude of 7.3°S and a palaeopole at 48.3°N, 233.3°E with A95 = 8.1°. Combining the rock assemblage, palaeomagnetic, palaeontological, and geochronologic data, we conclude that these blocks were most likely seamounts formed in the low‐latitude area of the Neo‐Tethys Ocean. The palaeolatitude and origin of these blocks indicate that the evolution of the Neo‐Tethys Ocean was a complex process interspersed with the development of a series of seamounts and microblocks. Gastric cancer (GC) is the fourth leading cause of cancer‐related death and the fifth most common malignant tumor globally. However, the clinical efficacy of conventional therapies is limited. Currently, immunotherapy is considered an effective therapeutic strategy for the management of various cancers, especially GC, but is of only limited benefit for GC patients. Accumulating evidence has revealed that oxidative stress plays a critical role in the regulation of immune responses within the tumor microenvironment (TME), affecting the efficacy of immunotherapies. Reactive oxygen species exert critical roles in enhancing antigen presentation, regulating immune responses, and preventing immunoescape. In this review, we summarize the dominant cancer immunotherapeutic strategies and describe the interaction between oxidative stress and the immune TME. We emphasize the underlying mechanisms of the efficacy of cancer immunotherapy, which involves its effects on oxidative stress, in the context of GC. We also highlight the therapeutic potential of regulating oxidative stress to improve immunotherapies, which may have benefits for clinical practice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Bacterial metabolism largely drives the sequestration of refractory organic matter in the ocean. However, a lack of understanding exists regarding the abundance and reactivity of bacterial particulate organic matter (POM). Here we report the bacterial contributions to suspended POM collected in the oligotrophic Western Pacific Warm Pool (WPWP). Around 27% of particulate organic carbon (POC) and ∼39% of particulate nitrogen (PN) in the surface ocean were derived from bacteria. Most of the bacterial POM (∼87%) was labile or semi‐labile, and ∼85% of bacterial POM was removed between depths of ∼100–300 m. Bacterial POM constituted only ∼8% and ∼13% of refractory POC and PN, respectively. The rapid cycling of bacterial POM in upper waters was likely related to oligotrophic conditions and facilitated by higher temperatures in the WPWP. Taken together, these observations indicate that bacterial POM plays a crucial role in supplying energy for bacterial respiration. Plain Language Summary: Bacteria transform a large fraction of the organic matter made by primary producers and contribute to long‐term oceanic carbon sequestration with bacterial detritus, thereby contributing to ocean uptake of atmospheric carbon dioxide. The abundance and reactivity of bacterial organic matter are critical to consider in this carbon storage pathway. Here we collected suspended particulate organic matter (POM) in the Western Pacific Warm Pool (WPWP) and assessed the bacterial POM contribution. A substantial proportion of bacterial POM was found in the surface ocean, but most (∼85%) was rapidly removed between depths of 100–300 m as particles sink. The high temperature and oligotrophic features of WPWP facilitate the use of bacterial POM as an energy source for bacterial respiration. This rapid turnover of bacterial POM in the upper ocean results in a contribution of only ∼8% to long‐term carbon sequestration. Our results suggest that bacterial POM exhibits high reactivity and only a small fraction can lead to long‐term carbon sequestration. More diverse plant communities are generally more productive than monocultures. This benefit of species diversity is supposed to stem from resource partitioning of species in mixtures where different species use the resources spatially, temporally, or chemically in distinct ways. With respect to water, the simultaneous cultivation of crops with distinct water uptake patterns might reduce niche overlaps and thus result in higher productivity. However, little is known about whether and how spatial water uptake patterns of crop species differ among different planting arrangements and whether these changes result in increased niche partitioning and explain overyielding in mixtures.Stable isotopes of water and a Bayesian model were used to investigate the spatial water uptake patterns of six different crop species and how these patterns change depending on the planting arrangement (monocultures vs mixtures). Niche overlaps and niche widths in spatial water uptake were compared among the different crop diversity levels and linked to productivity. Furthermore, spatial water uptake was related to competition intensity and overyielding in mixtures.We found evidence for increased niche partitioning in spatial water uptake, and therefore complementary spatial root distributions of crop species, and higher expected productivity in mixtures compared to expected productivity in monocultures both due to inherent species‐level differences in water uptake and plasticity in the water uptake pattern of species. We also found a significant relationship of competition and overyielding with observed patterns in spatial water uptake. These results suggest that competition was most intense in shallow soil layers and enhanced overyielding was related to a gradual increase of water uptake in deeper soil layers. Thus, overyielding might be related to a more complete spatial exploitation of available water sources.Synthesis. Differences in spatial water uptake and niche partitioning of intercropped species, driven most likely by a complementary spatial root distribution, might explain why mixtures outperform monocultures. The tumor suppressor p53 is critical for tumor suppression, but the regulatory role of p53 in alcohol‐induced fatty liver remains unclear. Here, we show a role for p53 in regulating ethanol metabolism via acetaldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2), a key enzyme responsible for the oxidization of alcohol. By repressing ethanol oxidization, p53 suppresses intracellular levels of acetyl‐CoA and histone acetylation, leading to the inhibition of the stearoyl‐CoA desaturase‐1 (SCD1) gene expression. Mechanistically, p53 directly binds to ALDH2 and prevents the formation of its active tetramer and indirectly limits the production of pyruvate that promotes the activity of ALDH2. Notably, p53‐deficient mice exhibit increased lipid accumulation, which can be reversed by ALDH2 depletion. Moreover, liver‐specific knockdown of SCD1 alleviates ethanol‐induced hepatic steatosis caused by p53 loss. By contrast, overexpression of SCD1 in liver promotes ethanol‐induced fatty liver development in wild‐type mice, while it has a mild effect on p53−/− or ALDH2−/− mice. Overall, our findings reveal a previously unrecognized function of p53 in alcohol‐induced fatty liver and uncover pyruvate as a natural regulator of ALDH2. Aims: DWP16001 is a novel sodium–glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitor for the treatment of type 2 diabetes with selective and sustained sodium–glucose cotransporter 2 inhibition. We aimed to evaluate whether the coadministration of DWP16001 and metformin causes any changes in pharmacokinetics (PK) or pharmacodynamics (PD). Methods: A randomized, open-label, single- and multiple-dose, 2-sequence, crossover study was conducted in healthy male subjects. Subjects received the following treatments: a single oral dose of DWP16001 (DWP) 2 mg, metformin immediate release 1000 mg (MET) twice daily for 7 days and a single oral dose of DWP and MET at steady-state for metformin (DWP+MET). Serial blood and interval urine were collected for PK and PD analyses. Safety and tolerability profiles were assessed throughout the study. Results: DWP+MET displayed increased peak concentration and area under the concentration–time curve from time 0 to time of the last quantifiable concentration compared with DWP (per standard bioequivalence boundaries, 0.8–1.25); the geometric mean ratios (GMRs) and their 90% confidence intervals (CIs) were 1.22 (1.13–1.31) and 1.09 (1.05–1.14), respectively. DWP+MET and MET showed similar peak concentration and area under the concentration–time curve within a dosing interval at steady state for metformin; the GMRs and 90% CIs were 0.98 (0.90–1.06) and 1.05 (0.98–1.13), respectively. The amount of urinary glucose excretion from time 0 to 144 h was also comparable between DWP+MET and DWP (GMR and 90% CI; 0.99, 0.94–1.05). Introduction: Certain sociodemographic characteristics (e.g., older age) have previously been identified as barriers to patients' participation preference in shared decision‐making (SDM). We aim to demonstrate that this relationship is mediated by the perceived power imbalance that manifests itself in patients' negative attitudes and beliefs about their role in decision‐making. Methods: We recruited a large sample (N = 434) of outpatients with a range of urological diagnoses (42.2% urooncological). Before the medical consultation at a university hospital, patients completed the Patients' Attitudes and Beliefs Scale and the Autonomy Preference Index. We evaluated attitudes as a mediator between sociodemographic factors and participation preference in a path model. Results: We replicated associations between relevant sociodemographic factors and participation preference. Importantly, attitudes and beliefs about one's own role as a patient mediated this relationship. The mediation path model explained a substantial proportion of the variance in participation preference (27.8%). Participation preferences and attitudes did not differ for oncological and nononcological patients. Conclusion: Patients' attitudes and beliefs about their role determine whether they are willing to participate in medical decision‐making. Thus, inviting patients to participate in SDM should encompass an assessment of their attitudes and beliefs. Importantly, negative attitudes may be accessible to change. Unlike stable sociodemographic characteristics, such values are promising targets for interventions to foster more active participation in SDM. The neuroinflammatory response that is elicited after spinal cord injury contributes to both tissue damage and reparative processes. The complex and dynamic cellular and molecular changes within the spinal cord microenvironment result in a functional imbalance of immune cells and their modulatory factors. To facilitate wound healing and repair, it is necessary to manipulate the immunological pathways during neuroinflammation to achieve successful therapeutic interventions. In this review, recent advancements and fresh perspectives on the consequences of neuroinflammation after SCI and modulation of the inflammatory responses through the use of molecular‐, cellular‐, and biomaterial‐based therapies to promote tissue regeneration and functional recovery will be discussed. Objective: To evaluate the extent to which the canonical steps of shared decision making (SDM) take place in clinical encounters in practice and across SDM forms. Methods: We assessed 100 randomly selected video‐recorded primary care encounters, obtained as part of a randomized trial of an SDM intervention in patients with type 2 diabetes. Two coders, working independently, noted each instance of SDM, classified it as one of four problem‐based forms to SDM (weighing alternatives, negotiating conflicting issues, solving problems, or developing existential insight), and noted the occurrence and timing of each of the four canonical SDM steps: fostering choice awareness, providing information, stating preferences, and deciding. Descriptive analyses sought to determine the relative frequency of these steps across each of the four SDM forms within each encounter. Results: There were 485 SDM steps noted (mean 4.85 steps per encounter), of which providing information and stating preferences were the most common. There were 2.7 (38 steps in 14 encounters) steps per encounter observed in encounters with no discernible SDM form, 3.4 (105 steps in 31 encounters) with one SDM form, 5.2 (129 steps in 25 encounters) with two SDM forms, and 7.1 (213 steps in 30 encounters) when ≥3 SDM forms were observed within the encounter. The prescribed order of the four SDM steps was observed in, at best, 16 of the 100 encounters. Stating preferences was a common step when weighing alternatives (38%) or negotiating conflicts (59.3%) but less common when solving problems (29.2%). The distribution of SDM steps was similar to usual care with or without the SDM intervention. Conclusion: The normative steps of SDM are infrequently observed in their prescribed order regardless of whether an SDM intervention was used. Temporal stability of ecosystem productivity is important for providing reliable ecosystem services under global changes. Great efforts have been made to explore the response of above‐ground net primary productivity (ANPP) stability to nitrogen (N) enrichment, yet how it affects below‐ground net primary productivity (BNPP) stability remains elusive, which hinders a comprehensive understanding of ecosystem stability from the view of a whole system.Here, using a field manipulative experiment with six N addition rates (0, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 g N m−2 year−1), we explored the response patterns and drivers of BNPP stability in the topsoil (0–20 cm) and subsoil (20–40 cm) in the alpine meadow.The results showed that BNPP stability at both soil depths showed a unimodal response to increasing N addition rates. Specifically, for both the topsoil and subsoil, low‐level N addition significantly promoted BNPP stability, while high doses of N addition had no significant impact on BNPP stability, suggesting that current low level of N deposition likely benefits the stable provision of below‐ground functioning. Furthermore, dominant species stability and species richness contributed most to the changes in BNPP stability in the topsoil, whereas only dominant species stability was the dominant driver of BNPP stability in the subsoil.This study is among the first to illuminate the main mechanisms underlying the responses of BNPP stability to N enrichment at various soil depths, which will advance our current understanding of N addition effects on below‐ground processes and benefit the sustainable provision of ecosystem functioning in the context of atmospheric N deposition. Background: In some breast and gynaecologic cancer centres in Germany, patients participate in their own case discussion in multidisciplinary tumour conferences (MTCs), where treatment recommendations are discussed and finalized. However, the extent to which patients in MTCs are involved in decision‐making on treatment recommendations remains largely unexplored. Hence, this study investigates how recommendations are communicated to patients and the extent to which the interactions with patients in MTCs are in line with shared decision‐making (SDM). Methods: In this observational study, we audio‐recorded MTCs with patient participation in three breast and gynaecologic cancer centres in Germany. We qualitatively analysed the data with regard to content and linguistic aspects. Results: We analysed 82 case discussions. Recommendations made during MTCs were regarding (i) treatment options, (ii) treatment initiation, (iii) next (treatment) steps and (iv) whether a treatment method should be initiated at all. The decision about recommendations depended in part on patients' preferences or further course/further outcomes. Although the purpose of MTCs is to provide recommendations, some recommendations were framed as the final decision. The majority of the decision‐making conversation could be characterized as option talk (78%), during which patients were mostly proposed only one (treatment) option. Conclusions: This study establishes limited SDM in MTCs with patient participation. By indicating choices and thereby creating awareness of choices among patients, MTCs with patient participation could be used to foster SDM implementation. Summary: Determining whether isotope fractionation occurs during root water uptake is a prerequisite for using stem or xylem water isotopes to trace water sources. However, it is unclear whether isotope fractionation occurs during root water uptake in gramineous crops.We conducted prevalidation experiments to estimate the isotope measurement bias associated with cryogenic vacuum distillation (CVD). Next, we assessed isotope fractionation during root water uptake in two common agronomic crops, wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and maize (Zea mays L.), under flooding after postdrought stress conditions.Cryogenic vacuum distillation caused significant depletion of 2H but negligible effects on 18O for both soil and stem water. Surprisingly CVD caused depletion of 2H and enrichment of 18O in root water. Stem and root water δ18O were more than soil water δ18O, even considering the uncertainty of CVD. Soil water 18O was depleted compared with irrigation water 18O in the pots with plants but enriched relative to irrigation water 18O in the pots without plants.These results indicate that isotope fractionation occurred during wheat and maize root water uptake after full irrigation and led to a heavy isotope enrichment in stem water. Von Willebrand factor (VWF) is a glycoprotein that is secreted into the circulation and controls bleeding by promoting adhesion and aggregation of blood platelets at sites of vascular injury. Substantial inter‐individual variation in VWF plasma levels exists among the healthy population. Prior to secretion, VWF polymers are assembled and condensed into helical tubules, which are packaged into Weibel‐Palade bodies (WPBs), a highly specialized post‐Golgi storage compartment in vascular endothelial cells. In the inherited bleeding disorder Von Willebrand disease (VWD), mutations in the VWF gene can cause qualitative or quantitative defects, limiting protein function, secretion, or plasma survival. However, pathogenic VWF mutations cannot be found in all VWD cases. Although an increasing number of genetic modifiers have been identified, even more rare genetic variants that impact VWF plasma levels likely remain to be discovered. Here, we summarize recent evidence that modulation of the early secretory pathway has great impact on the biogenesis and release of WPBs. Based on these findings, we propose that rare, as yet unidentified quantitative trait loci influencing intracellular VWF transport contribute to highly variable VWF levels in the population. Bone is the second most common distant metastasis site in differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) and is normally associated with the presence of other metastases, which are usually radioiodine‐resistant. The presence of bone metastasis (BM) determines low survival and greater morbidity due to the frequency of skeletal‐related events (SREs), which can be a serious complication of BM. There is evidence that antiresorptive therapy (AT) reduces SREs in other solid tumors, but not yet in DTC BM, for which data are scant. The same is true for systemic therapy with multikinase inhibitors (MKIs). In general, the results for MKI use are well known, although the effect on BM has rarely been evaluated. While MKIs are indicated in current clinical practice guidelines, studies evaluating the benefits and risks of concomitant treatment with MKIs and AT are lacking, and the available data come from small samples in retrospective studies. The objective of this article is to review the latest evidence for concomitant MKIs and AT. The Palaeo‐Tethys is known to have diverged into several splays throughout East and South‐east Asia. Several researchers have widely studied the importance and geometries of the Palaeo‐Tethys' branches. Plate reconstruction geometries for the southern Palaeo‐Tethys splay suggest that the ocean either connects to the proto‐Pacific or dies out. We review and discuss the Late Palaeozoic to the Early Mesozoic lithologies attributed to the Palaeo‐Tethys, from the Himalayan Syntaxis in the north to the Bangka and Belitung islands in western Indonesia to the south. Relics of oceanic crust and deep‐sea sediments related to the main Palaeo‐Tethys Basin can be traced from the South China (Yunnan)‐Thailand border to Peninsular Malaysia. A sub‐parallel back‐arc suture exists in eastern Thailand in the north and vanishes towards the south at the latitude of the Gulf of Thailand. Towards the south of Peninsular Malaysia, the material that constitutes the suture zone of main Palaeo‐Tethys is found offshore in the Riau Archipelago, Indonesia, and has been extensively eroded. Thus, we rely on gravity signatures to extrapolate the extension of the structures to the Bangka and Belitung islands, which show only minor serpentine and pillow basalts occurrences along a line that curves towards Borneo. The metamorphic rocks associated with the suture zones range from high grade (gneiss) in Thailand to low grade (mica schist and minor amphibolite) in Peninsular Malaysia. The syn‐ and post‐collisional granitic bodies that form large batholiths in Thailand and Malaysia are comparatively smaller in Indonesia, particularly on Belitung Island, suggesting the lack of large underplating of the Sibumasu crust within the region. We interpret the stratigraphic and tectonic observations of the southern Palaeo‐Tethys to support the theory of the southward (present orientation) opening of a propagating oceanic basin from Devonian to Carboniferous, which began to close from the Permian to Triassic period. Yanshanian magmatisms are intensive in the eastern Jiangnan orogen and can be divided into early (150–136 Ma) and late (136–120 Ma) stages. About these granitic rocks, the petrogenesis and associated tectonic setting are still hotly debated. The Taiping–Huangshan complex, a representative granitic rock in this region, is selected to perform geochemical studies. Three lithologic units have been identified in the Taiping–Huangshan complex: granodiorite, monzogranite, and alkali‐feldspar granite with zircon U–Pb dating results of 149–144 Ma, 148 Ma, and 135–131 Ma, respectively, belonging to the early stage for the granodiorite and monzogranite, and late stage for the alkali‐feldspar granite. The granodiorite and monzogranite have similar major and trace element characteristics with intermediate‐acidic SiO2 contents ranging from 65.9 to 69.7 wt.%, low Mg# values of 35.8–38.4, enriched LREE, Pb, Th, and U contents, and weak Eu anomalies (δEu = 0.71–0.79). The alkali‐feldspar granite is characterized by high SiO2 contents (73.3–76.6 wt.%), low Mg# (2.6–10.0), enriched Th, U, Ta, Pb, and Nd, depleted high‐field‐strength elements, and pronounced negative Eu anomalies (δEu = 0.01–0.19). The granodiorite and monzogranite have consistent εHf(t) (−5.38 to −9.41) and δ18O (7.18‰ to 11.00‰) values, while the alkali‐feldspar granite has elevated εHf(t) values (−0.96 to −6.48) and δ18O values (6.27‰ to 8.34‰). Integrated geochemical characteristics and batch partial melting modelling constrain that the early stage granitic rocks derived from ca. 8% batch melting of the Neoproterozoic juvenile crust, and the late‐stage granites derived from a similar crust source with a little contribution from mantle. From early to late stage, the tectonic setting translated from post‐orogenic to anorogenic and the later corresponded to a back‐arc extensional setting as increasing of the slab subducted angle of the Palaeo‐Pacific Plate. The southwestern Yangtze Craton hosts more than 400 carbonate‐hosted Pb–Zn deposits, and is well endowed with enormous base metals. The giant Maoping deposit is one of the most representative deposits, and the mineralization mainly occurs in the Devonian to Carboniferous dolomitic rocks. Its metallogenesis has been thoroughly discussed from many perspectives by previous studies, but it remains controversial, especially about the relationship between the structural process and the Pb–Zn mineralization. In this paper, we conducted large‐scale structural mapping and whole‐rock geochemical analysis to investigate the structural process and its control on the mineralization at Maoping. Three stages of deformation have been recognized, including the NE–SW‐striking folds and thrusts (D1), the N–S‐striking transtensional faults (D2), and the NW–SE‐striking transpressional structures (D3). The geochemical analysis shows relatively higher contents of the ore‐related trace elements in the tectonites from the N–S‐striking faults, indicating a close relationship between the N–S‐striking faults and the mineralization. Combined with field evidence and geochemical analysis, we propose that the N–S‐striking transtensional faults are likely the major ore‐conducting structures, and the NE–SW‐striking interlayer fractures serve as the assistant structures at the deposit scale. The regional NE–SW‐striking fold‐and‐thrust belts are suggested to dominate the spatial distribution and location of the Pb–Zn deposits in northeastern Yunnan at the regional scale. Our study enhances the understanding of the metallogenesis at Maoping and provides new insights into the Pb–Zn prospecting at both the regional scale and the deposit scale. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: SCN8A epileptic encephalopathy is caused predominantly by de novo gain‐of‐function mutations in the voltage‐gated sodium channel Nav1.6. The disorder is characterized by early onset of seizures and developmental delay. Most patients with SCN8A epileptic encephalopathy are refractory to current anti‐seizure medications. Previous studies determining the mechanisms of this disease have focused on neuronal dysfunction as Nav1.6 is expressed by neurons and plays a critical role in controlling neuronal excitability. However, glial dysfunction has been implicated in epilepsy and alterations in glial physiology could contribute to the pathology of SCN8A encephalopathy. In the current study, we examined alterations in astrocyte and microglia physiology in the development of seizures in a mouse model of SCN8A epileptic encephalopathy. Methods: Using immunohistochemistry, we assessed microglia and astrocyte reactivity before and after the onset of spontaneous seizures. Expression of glutamine synthetase and Nav1.6, and Kir4.1 channel currents were assessed in astrocytes in wild‐type (WT) mice and mice carrying the N1768D SCN8A mutation (D/+). Results: Astrocytes in spontaneously seizing D/+ mice become reactive and increase expression of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), a marker of astrocyte reactivity. These same astrocytes exhibited reduced barium‐sensitive Kir4.1 currents compared to age‐matched WT mice and decreased expression of glutamine synthetase. These alterations were only observed in spontaneously seizing mice and not before the onset of seizures. In contrast, microglial morphology remained unchanged before and after the onset of seizures. Significance: Astrocytes, but not microglia, become reactive only after the onset of spontaneous seizures in a mouse model of SCN8A encephalopathy. Reactive astrocytes have reduced Kir4.1‐mediated currents, which would impair their ability to buffer potassium. Reduced expression of glutamine synthetase would modulate the availability of neurotransmitters to excitatory and inhibitory neurons. These deficits in potassium and glutamate handling by astrocytes could exacerbate seizures in SCN8A epileptic encephalopathy. Background: The interest in shared decision making (SDM) and the use of patient decision aids have increased significantly. Research indicates that this approach has benefits, and yet, implementation remains a challenge. To illustrate this development, we focus on vaccine hesitancy which has become a serious public health challenge during the COVID‐19 pandemic. Various strategies have been used in healthcare, with limited success, to help patients overcome vaccine hesitancy. It is unclear whether SDM interventions can increase vaccination rates. Aims: Our aim was two‐fold: to provide an overview of SDM and the use of patient decision aids and to determine the effect of SDM interventions on vaccine uptake. Methods: To provide an overview, we drew on our knowledge of the field and summarized the most recent systematic reviews. We examined the impact on vaccine hesitancy by searching for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of SDM interventions, conducted a meta‐analysis and calculated a pooled odds ratio. Additional outcomes were reported in a narrative synthesis. Results: SDM is viewed as the pinnacle of patient‐centred care, supported by an ethical imperative and by empirical evidence of benefits. We found 10 RCTs that met our inclusion criteria. SDM interventions significantly increased vaccine uptake compared to control groups (odds ratio = 1.45; 95% confidence interval [1.17–1.80]; p < 0.01). Some RCTs also reported significantly decreased decisional conflict and increased decision confidence. Conclusion: Future healthcare delivery systems will need to consider how to support the implementation of SDM. Interventions designed to facilitate this approach can represent a helpful, ethically defensible, strategy to increase vaccination rates. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Chaqiabeishan area of the Quanji Massif in NW China is characterized by extensive Li‐rich pegmatites and granites of various ages. In this study, the major and trace element compositions, U–Pb zircon ages, and zircon Hf isotopic compositions of the granites were investigated, including the Garideng porphyritic monzogranite, the Gongkaxiuma monzogranite, and the Narong granitic porphyry. Precise U–Pb zircon dating revealed that these three granites were emplaced at approximately 468, 444, and 245 Ma, respectively. The geologic and geochemical data indicate that the Garideng porphyritic monzogranite and the Narong granitic porphyry are two I‐type granites, and the Gongkaxiuma monzogranite is an A2‐type granite. Based on the Hf isotopes and geochemical data, the Garideng porphyritic monzogranite and the Narong granitic porphyry were derived from partial melting of the relatively deep and relatively shallow juvenile mantle‐derived mafic lower crust, respectively, while the Gongkaxiuma monzogranite was derived from partial melting of the granulitic metamorphic basement. Moreover, tectonically, the Garideng porphyritic monzogranite represents the northward subduction of the South Qilian oceanic plate from 500 to 440 Ma. The Gongkaxiuma monzogranite represents the closure of the South Qilian Ocean by ~440 Ma, and the Narong granitic porphyry represents the Late Permian to Middle Triassic southward subduction of the Zongwulong oceanic plate under the Quanji Massif. Purpose: The aim of this study was to develop a patient decision aid (pDA) that could support patients with breast cancer (BC) in making an informed decision about breast reconstruction (BR) after mastectomy. Methods: The development included four stages: (i) Establishment of a multidisciplinary team; (ii) Needs assessment consisting of semi‐structured interviews in patients and a survey among healthcare professionals (HCPs); (iii) Creation of content, design and technical system; and (iv) Acceptability and usability testing using a think‐aloud approach in patients and interviews among HCPs and representatives of the Dutch Breast Cancer Patient Organization. Results: From the needs assessment, three themes were identified: Challenging period to make a decision, Diverse motivations for a personal decision and Information needed to make a decision about BR. HCPs valued the development of a pDA, especially to prepare patients for consultation. The pDA that was developed contained three parts: first, a consultation sheet for oncological breast surgeons to introduce the choice; second, an online tool including an overview of reconstructive options, the pros and cons of each option, information on the consequences of each option for daily life, exercises to clarify personal values and patient stories; and third, a summary sheet with patients' values, preferences and questions to help inform and guide the discussion between the patient and her plastic surgeon. The pDA was perceived to be informative, helpful and easy to use by patients and HCPs. Conclusion: Consistent with information needs, a pDA was developed to support patients with BC who consider immediate BR in making an informed decision together with their plastic surgeon. The geochemical differences of magmatic rocks can be influenced by melt source and magmatic processes, including partial melting, fractional crystallization and magma mixing. New whole‐rock geochemical analyses, zircon U–Pb ages and Hf‐isotope data on granitoids from the Qingshanbao complex in the Longshoushan belt highlight a significant Late Ordovician–Early Silurian magmatic episode during the collision between the Alxa and Qilian‐Qaidam blocks, in which magma mixing was a fundamental process. The Qingshanbao complex comprises K‐feldspar granite, granodiorite and diorite emplaced coevally from 442 to 433 Ma. They exhibit peraluminous to metaluminous I‐type features, are enriched in large‐ion lithophile elements (LILEs) and light rare earth elements (LREEs) and depleted in high‐field‐strength elements (HFSEs). Chondrite‐normalized REE patterns are fractionated (LaN/YbN = 10.2–34.9) with weakly negative Eu anomalies (Eu/Eu* = 0.66–0.94). The 176Lu/177Hf zircon two‐stage model ages (TDM2) and the εHf(t) on zircons extracted from the K‐feldspar granite (1613–2,316 Ma, εHf(t) = −14.4 to −3.0) and granodiorite (1640–2015 Ma, εHf(t) = −9.6 to −3.6) suggest they were formed by the mixing of melts produced by the melting of Mesoproterozoic crustal materials, most likely meta‐basic rocks from the Longshoushan Group, and to a lesser extent mantle materials. In contrast, zircons in the diorite yield TDM2 ages ranging from 964 to 1767 Ma and εHf(t) values of −5.5 to 7.1, implying melting of depleted mantle rocks with subordinate participation of lower crust materials. We suggest that the Qingshanbao complex was emplaced when the North Qilian area was in a transitional stage from a compressional to an extensional environment as early as approximately 442 Ma. As a major tectonic unit along the southwestern rim of the Central Qilian Belt, the Lajishan region plays an important role in the amalgamation of continental plates in the Qilian Orogenic Belt. In this study, zircon laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry for U–Pb dating and Hf isotope analysis, as well as geochemical analysis of intermediate‐acid intrusive rocks from the Lajishan area were conducted. Results show that formation ages of the intermediate‐acid intrusive rocks are 438–452 Ma. Whole‐rock geochemistry results show that the diorite and monzodiorite are metaluminous, low‐ to medium‐K series, and characterized by obvious Nb, Ta, and Ti depletions as well as large‐ion lithophile element and light rare earth element enrichments. The εHf(t) values of zircons from monodiorite range from +2.71 to +10.59 and the two‐stage model ages range from 751 to 1,253 Ma. A large transversal span of εHf(t) values suggests that the source of depleted mantle was mixed with a small amount of older crustal material. The diorite and monzodiorite show a covariant relationship between εHf(t) values and Th/U ratios, which imply the existence of source heterogeneity. The diorites and monzodiorites were most likely produced in an arc setting. The granites are low K in composition and metaluminous to weakly peraluminous. In view of obvious Nb, Ta, and Ti depletions as well as large‐ion lithophile element and light rare earth element enrichments, parent magmas of the granites are suggested to have formed with the participation of crustal source materials. The εHf(t) values of zircons from granite range from +5.82 to +8.90, and the two‐stage model ages range from 861 to 1,057 Ma, indicating that magmas of the granites were mainly derived from partial melting of depleted mantle or juvenile thickened lower crust. The granites were most likely produced in an arc setting and share a similar source with the diorite and monzodiorite. Correlation between major oxides and SiO2 show that during the formation of the three kinds of rocks, crystallization and differentiation both played important roles. Combined with published data from the Central Qilian Belt and its vicinity, our results conclude that the northward subduction of oceanic crust contributed to the formation of an Early Palaeozoic subduction–accretion system in the Lajishan region. This model reveals a tectonic–magmatic thermal event and provides important insights into the tectonic evolution process in the Qilian region, as well as the Central Orogenic Belt during the Early Palaeozoic. Background: Hypertension is mainly managed in primary care. Shared decision making is widely recommended as an approach to treatment decision making. However, no studies have investigated; in detail, what happens during primary care consultations for hypertension. Aim: To understand patients' and clinicians' experience of shared decision making for hypertension in primary care, in order to propose how it might be better supported. Design: Longitudinal qualitative study. Setting: Five general practices in south‐west England. Method: Interviews with a purposive sample of patients with hypertension, and with the health‐care practitioners they consulted, along with observations of clinical consultations, for up to 6 appointments. Interviews and consultations were audio‐recorded and observational field notes taken. Data were analysed thematically. Results: Forty‐six interviews and 18 consultations were observed, with 11 patients and nine health‐care practitioners (five GPs, one pharmacist and three nurses). Little shared decision making was described by participants or observed. Often patients' understanding of their hypertension was limited, and they were not aware there were treatment choices. Consultations provided few opportunities for patients and clinicians to reach a shared understanding of their treatment choices. Opportunities for patients to engage in choices were limited by structured consultations and the distribution of decisions across consultations. Conclusion: For shared decision making to be better supported, consultations need to provide opportunities for patients to learn about their condition, to understand that there are treatment choices, and to discuss these choices with clinicians. Numerous granitoid suites exposed in the Qilian orogen, NE Tibetan Plateau preserve important records of the tectonic evolution of this orogen. Here we present zircon U–Pb, zircon rare earth elements (REEs), and whole‐rock geochemical and Sr–Nd–Hf isotopic data on Niuxinshan granitoids in the North Qilian orogen, with a view to constrain their petrogenesis and timing of emplacement, as well as to gain new insights into the Early Palaeozoic tectonic evolution of the Qilian orogen. Zircon U–Pb data show multiple concordant ages of ~517, 455–425, 397–389, and 351–319 Ma for syenogranite, and ages of ~758 and 724 Ma together with some scattered Early Mesozoic discordant ages for porphyritic granite, suggesting episodic magmatism from Neoproterozoic to Early Mesozoic. Zircon ∑REEs range from 276.43 to 4,582.32 ppm, and are characterized by depletion of light REEs (LREEs) and enrichment heavy REEs (HREEs) with negative Eu anomalies, indicating a mixture of magmatic and hydrothermal zircons. Whole‐rock geochemical data show similar variation of LREEs, large‐ion lithophile elements (LILEs), HREEs, and high‐field‐strength elements (HFSEs) with zircon REEs, with Eu, Ba, P, and Ti negative anomalies and Rb, U, and Pb positive anomalies. Based on their formation ages, two groups of granitoids are identified. Group I rocks (Early Palaeozoic) are represented by I‐type granites whereas Group II rocks (Early Mesozoic) are of S‐type. Whole‐rock Sr–Nd–Hf isotopes display (87Sr/86Sr)i ratios of 0.707085–0.709591, εNd(t) values of −5.3 to −2.3, εHf(t) values of −2.2 to 0, and two‐stage model (Nd and Hf) ages of 1.6–1.4 Ga for Group I rocks, and of 0.728156–0.734113, −9.4 to −9.3, −10.6 to −6.9, and 2.1–1.9 Ga for Group II rocks. Accordingly, we infer that the magma for Group I was sourced from the partial melting of basaltic protoliths in the mafic lower crust and underwent fractional crystallization. Group II was derived from metasedimentary protoliths through reworking of ancient Palaeoproterozoic crustal components. Integrating the results from this study with those from previous studies on Niuxinshan granitoids, we argue that the southward subduction model of the North Qilian Ocean beneath the Qilian Block during the Early Palaeozoic might be a more reasonable scenario. Background: Shared decision making (SDM) in mental health may contribute to greater patient satisfaction and is sometimes associated with better health outcomes. Here, SDM should not only involve service users and clinicians but also involve the service users' caregivers. Aim: This study aimed to achieve better insight into the current SDM patterns of triads of service users, caregivers and clinicians in inpatient mental health care and the three parties' expectations towards the prospects of triadic SDM. Design: The current research uses data from a representative cross‐sectional study on caregivers in psychiatric inpatient treatment. We analysed data on n = 94 triads of service users, their caregivers and their clinicians. Results: All three parties acknowledge caregivers to be of great support to monitor the progress with mental disease. The caregiver's role during consultations is most often described as being an expert, receiving or providing information and supporting service users. However, caregivers at times try to seek support for themselves during caregiver‐clinician interaction, or their behaviour was described as unhelpful. The potential prospects of caregiver involvement are clearly acknowledged despite the low implementation of caregiver involvement in this sample (only in one‐third of the cases). Conclusion: Triadic SDM rarely takes place in routine inpatient care. First, there should be a focus on interventions aiming at inviting caregivers to consultations. Only in the second step should a better conceptualisation of triadic SDM be undertaken. Objective: To participate in shared decision making (SDM), patients need to understand their options and develop trust in their own decision‐making abilities. Two experiments investigated the potential of decision aids (DAs) in preparing patients for SDM by raising awareness of preference‐sensitivity (Study 1) and showing possible personal motives for decision making (Study 2) in addition to providing information about the treatment options. Methods: Participants (Study 1: N = 117; Study 2: N = 217) were put into two scenarios (Study 1: cruciate ligament rupture; Study 2: contraception), watched a consultation video and were randomized into one of three groups where they received additional information in the form of (a) narrative patient testimonials; (b) non‐narrative decision strategies; and (c) an unrelated text (control group). Results: Participants who viewed the patient testimonials or decision strategies felt better prepared for a decision (Study 1: P <.001, ηP2 = 0.43; Study 2: P <.001, ηP2 = 0.57) and evaluated the decision‐making process more positively (Study 2: P <.001, ηP2 = 0.13) than participants in the control condition. Decision certainty (Study 1: P <.001, ηP2 = 0.05) and satisfaction (Study 1: P <.001, ηP2 = 0.11; Study 2: P =.003, d = 0.29) were higher across all conditions after watching the consultation video, and certainty and satisfaction were lower in the control condition (Study 2: P <.001, ηP2 = 0.05). Discussion: Decision aids that explain preference‐sensitivity and personal motives can be beneficial for improving people's feelings of being prepared and their perception of the decision‐making process. To reach decision certainty and satisfaction, being well informed of one's options is particularly relevant. We discuss the implications of our findings for future research and the design of DAs. Research on the Zanhuang Complex has been one of the hotspots in the Neoarchean–Palaeoproterozoic tectonic evolution of the Trans‐North China Orogen (TNCO) in the North China Craton (NCC). Here, we present data from petrology, geochemistry, zircon U–Pb geochronology, and Lu–Hf isotopes on a suite of granite, diorite, TTG gneiss, and amphibolite in the Zanhuang Complex to characterize these rocks and understand their genesis. Zircon U–Pb data yield magmatic ages of 2,607 Ma for granite, 2,599 Ma for diorite and 2,561 Ma for TTG gneiss, with subsequent thermal event ages of 2,530 and 2,471 Ma. Lu–Hf isotopes show εHf(t) values ranging from 0.04 to 7.11 and crustal model ages of 2,700–3,100 Ma for the diorite, indicating a Meso‐ to Neoarchean mantle source with minor input of crustal components. The granite and TTG gneiss have the characteristics of volcanic‐arc granite, with low Sr/Y and (La/Yb)N, high Cr and Ni contents, positive Pb and K anomalies and negative Nb, Ta, P, and Ti anomalies. The amphibolite and diorite are similar to island arc basalt, with low K2O, Sr/Y, (La/Yb)N, and high FeOT, positive Pb anomaly, negative Nb, Ta, and Ti anomalies and absence of obvious Ce anomaly. These signatures indicate that these rocks were likely formed in a subduction setting. We have proposed a model of subduction–collision process in the TNCO, including subduction at ca. 2.70–2.55 Ga, arc–continent collision at ca. 2.55–2.45 Ga, extension and rifting at ca. 2.30–2.05 Ga, and continent–continent collision at ca. 1.90–1.75 Ga. Our results are consistent with the previous models on the tectonic evolution in the NCC and provide further insights into the Neoarchean–Palaeoproterozoic tectonic history of the craton. The geodynamic mechanism of the Early Cretaceous magmatic rocks in the southern Lhasa Terrane remains controversial. To constrain the Early Cretaceous petrogenesis and tectonic evolution of the Neo‐Tethyan oceanic slab, we have undertaken zircon U–Pb dating, whole‐rock major and trace element analyses, and Sr–Nd–Pb–Hf isotopic studies of the Cuocun gabbro from the southern Lhasa Terrane. The zircon U–Pb dating yielded an Early Cretaceous crystallization age of 146.9 ± 0.6 Ma (MSWD = 0.77, 2σ). The Cuocun gabbro is enriched in large‐ion lithophile elements (e.g., Rb, Sr, and Ba) and depleted in high‐field‐strength elements (e.g., Nb, Ta, and Ti). The initial 87Sr/86Sr value are low (0.70361–0.70460), εNd(t) and εHf(t) values are high and positive (from +5.1 to +6.6 and from +11.0 to 17.0, respectively), and Pb isotope specific value are homogeneous (initial 206Pb/204Pb = 18.163–18.457, 207Pb/204Pb = 15.541–15.632, and 208Pb/204Pb = 38.262–38.673). The gabbro originated from the partial melting of a depleted mantle wedge that had reacted with slab‐derived fluids, and the ascending magmas underwent fractional crystallization without significant crustal contamination. Combining our data with those from previous studies of Early Cretaceous magmatism in the southern Lhasa Terrane, we suggest that the Early Cretaceous magmatic rocks (147–130 Ma) in the southern Lhasa Terrane were generated within a continental marginal arc setting related to the rollback of the northwards subducting Neo‐Tethyan oceanic slab. Aims: DWP16001 is a novel sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitor for the treatment of type 2 diabetes with selective and sustained sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibition. We aimed to evaluate whether the coadministration of DWP16001 and metformin causes any changes in pharmacokinetics (PK) or pharmacodynamics (PD)., Methods: A randomized, open-label, single- and multiple-dose, 2-sequence, crossover study was conducted in healthy male subjects. Subjects received the following treatments: a single oral dose of DWP16001 (DWP) 2 mg, metformin immediate release 1000 mg (MET) twice daily for 7 days and a single oral dose of DWP and MET at steady-state for metformin (DWP+MET). Serial blood and interval urine were collected for PK and PD analyses. Safety and tolerability profiles were assessed throughout the study., Results: DWP+MET displayed increased peak concentration and area under the concentration-time curve from time 0 to time of the last quantifiable concentration compared with DWP (per standard bioequivalence boundaries, 0.8-1.25); the geometric mean ratios (GMRs) and their 90% confidence intervals (CIs) were 1.22 (1.13-1.31) and 1.09 (1.05-1.14), respectively. DWP+MET and MET showed similar peak concentration and area under the concentration-time curve within a dosing interval at steady state for metformin; the GMRs and 90% CIs were 0.98 (0.90-1.06) and 1.05 (0.98-1.13), respectively. As we know, mantle‐derived mafic rocks can be used to effectively trace the nature of the mantle source and constrain the regional tectonic setting and evolution. Recently, a Late Mesozoic mafic intrusive body (Huangmao pluton) has been found in the eastern Jiangnan Orogen (EJO). In this study, we investigate this pluton using petrography, whole‐rock geochemistry, Sr–Nd–Pb isotopes, and geochronology. The Huangmao pluton is primarily composed of a fine‐grained gabbro‐diabase, which is characterized by consistent SiO2, MgO, Fe2O3T, and TiO2 contents. These gabbros exhibit continental crust‐like trace element signatures, i.e., enriched in large‐ion lithophile elements (LILE), Pb, and light rare earth elements (LREE), but depleted in high‐field‐strength elements (HFSE). In addition, the Huangmao gabbros have moderate initial 87Sr/86Sr ratio (0.7065–0.7080) and slightly negative to weakly positive εNd(t) value (−2.06 to +0.84). Finally, U–Pb zircon dating confirms that the Huangmao pluton was emplaced in the Late Jurassic (152.6 ± 3.1 Ma). Through an integrated geochemical analysis, these Late Mesozoic gabbros were genetically originated from an enriched lithospheric mantle source, which formed by a metasomatic reaction between mantle peridotite and sediment‐derived felsic melt. Consequently, the lithologies of the metasomatite were predominantly pyroxenites with a small amount of pyroxene‐rich peridotites. Considering the large distance between the modern trench and the EJO, the flat‐slab subduction and rollback model of the palaeo‐Pacific Plate is the most reasonable interpretation of the geodynamic setting that resulted in Late Mesozoic magmatism in the EJO. The Tengchong‐Lianghe tin metallogenic district in western Yunnan is an important tin mineralization area in the Sanjiang Tethyan Metallogenic Domain from southwestern China. The Lailishan deposit is one of the largest tin deposits in this district and spatially and temporally associated with Eocene granites. LA‐MC‐ICP‐MS cassiterite U–Pb dating (49.8 ± 2.6 Ma) suggests that the tin mineralization is coeval with the Lailishan granites. The contact between the monzogranite and the syenogranite is gradual and both are weakly peraluminous, with high SiO2, Al2O3, and total alkali contents. They are characterized by negative Eu anomalies and the depletion in high‐field‐strength elements and enrichment in large‐ion lithophile elements. Compared with the monzogranite, the syenogranite is more evolved and exhibit 'tetrad effect'. The Lailishan monzogranite was probably derived from the partial melt of the ancient crustal basement from the Tengchong Block under syn‐collisional tectonic setting. The syenogranite was cogenetic with monzogranite and experienced the process of fractional crystallization. The mineralization process is divided into three successive mineralization stages (I–III) in this study. These stages are characterized by the coarse‐grained cassiterite and high temperatures (216–337°C), light brown or colourless cassiterite and moderate temperatures (160–243°C), and dark brown cassiterite and low temperatures (116–199°C) of ore‐forming fluids, respectively. From the Stage I to later stages, both the δ18OH2O and δDSMOW values of fluids are decreasing and shift from magmatic water towards meteoric water, indicating that the ore‐forming fluids derived from granitic melts and mixed over time with meteoric water with the decrease of temperature. The δ34S values of pyrites and pyrrhotites (2.4–5.9‰) and Pb isotopic compositions for pyrites from Lailishan deposit (206Pb/204Pb = 18.687–19.402) are similar with those of Lailishan granites. Creation of the climate‐smart agriculture requires efficient resource use and mitigation of the environmental pressures among other objectives. Therefore, it is important to assess the energy efficiency and productivity growth in the European Union's agriculture. This paper analyses the sample of the selected European Union member states. The productive technology including the energy consumption and the resulting greenhouse gas (GHG) emission is constructed. The measurement of the energy efficiency and productivity change relies on the slacks‐based measure and Luenberger productivity indicator. The productivity growth was decomposed with respect to the input/output variables and the sources of growth (i.e., efficiency change and technical progress). The average annual productivity growth of 0.79% was obtained for the selected countries during 1995–2016. The highest productivity gains were observed in Lithuania, Denmark, Belgium and Romania (1.27%–1.94% per year). The productivity growth related to GHG emission dominated the contributions by the input/output variables in Lithuania, Denmark, Belgium, Romania, Poland, Austria, France, the Netherlands, Hungary and Estonia. Aim: Canopy structural complexity, which describes the degree of heterogeneity in vegetation density, is strongly tied to a number of ecosystem functions, but the community and structural characteristics that give rise to variation in complexity at site to subcontinental scales are poorly defined. We investigated how woody plant taxonomic and phylogenetic diversity, maximum canopy height, and leaf area index (LAI) relate to canopy rugosity, a measure of canopy structural complexity that is correlated with primary production, light capture, and resource‐use efficiency. Location: Our analysis used 122 plots distributed across 10 ecologically and climatically variable forests spanning a > 1,500 km latitudinal gradient within the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) of the USA. Time period: 2016–2018. Taxa studied: Woody plants. Methods: We used univariate and multivariate modelling to examine relationships between canopy rugosity, and community and structural characteristics hypothesized to drive site and subcontinental variation in complexity. Results: Spatial variation in canopy rugosity within sites and across the subcontinent was strongly and positively related to maximum canopy height (r2 =.87 subcontinent‐wide), with the addition of species richness in a multivariate model resolving another 2% of the variation across the subcontinent. Individually, woody plant species richness and phylogenetic diversity (r2 =.17 to.44, respectively) and LAI (r2 =.16) were weakly to moderately correlated with canopy rugosity at the subcontinental scale, and inconsistently explained spatial variation in canopy rugosity within sites. Main conclusions: We conclude that maximum canopy height is a substantially stronger predictor of complexity than diversity or LAI within and across forests of eastern North America, suggesting that canopy volume places a primary constraint on the development of structural complexity. Management and land‐use practices that encourage and sustain tall temperate forest canopies may support greater complexity and associated increases in ecosystem functioning. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Measurement of physicians' competence in shared decision making (SDM) remains challenging with frequent disagreement between assessment methods. Objective: To conceptualize and measure physicians' SDM competence as an organized network of behavioural skills and to determine whether processing patient‐reported data according to this model can be used to predict observer‐rated competence. Design: Secondary analysis of an observational study. Setting and participants: Primary and specialty outpatient care physicians and consecutively recruited adult patients with a chronic condition who faced a treatment decision with multiple acceptable choices. Measures: Network parameters constructed from patients' assessment of physicians' SDM skills as measured by the 9‐item Shared Decision Making Questionnaire (SDM‐Q‐9) and observer‐rated SDM competence of physicians measured by three widely used observer‐rated instruments. Results: 29 physicians (12 female, 17 male; mean age 50.3 years) recruited 310 patients (59.4% female, 40.6% male; mean age 54.0 years) facing a decision mainly regarding type 2 diabetes (36.4%), chronic back pain (32.8%) or depressive disorder (26.8%). Although most investigated skills were interrelated, elicitation of the patient's treatment preferences showed the strongest associations with the other skills. Network parameters of this skill were also decisive in predicting observer‐rated competence. Correlation between predicted competence scores and observer‐rated measurements ranged from 0.710 to 0.785. Conclusions: Conceptualizing physicians' SDM competence as a network of interacting skills enables the measurement of observer‐rated competence using patient‐reported data. In addition to theoretical implications for defining and training medical competences, the findings open a new way to measure physicians' SDM competence under routine conditions. The Kuqa Depression is an important oil and gas exploration area in the Tarim Basin, and exploration practices indicate that the gas reservoirs such as Dabei, Kela, and Keshenare distributed in the Cretaceous palaeo‐uplift area. However, few studies have been done on the Cretaceous palaeo‐uplifts. On the basis of the logging gamma curve, the spectrum analysis of the Bashijiqike Formation shows that the sedimentation of the Lower Cretaceous stratum was controlled by the Milankovitch cycles. As the stratum exhibits the characteristic Milankovitch periodicities, 133, 124, 100, and 95 ka eccentricity, 46.5 and 36.6 ka obliquity, and 22.2 ka precession periods are identified in the residual Bashijiqike Formation. By combining the results of cyclic analysis and thermal simulation of apatite fission track (AFT), the stratum denudation amount of Dabei‐Tubei palaeo‐uplift and Kelasu palaeo‐uplift in the Late Cretaceous was calculated, and the palaeo‐uplifts were restored. The results show that the original thickness of the Cretaceous stratum in the core of the Dabei‐Tubei palaeo‐uplift was ~1,500 m and was more than 1,800 m in the core of the Kelasu palaeo‐uplift. The AFT modelling results indicate that there were two cooling phases in provenance, that is, since the Late Triassic–Early Jurassic (ca. 200 Ma) and the Late Jurassic–Early Cretaceous (ca. 160–130 Ma). In addition, the depositional area also experienced two cooling phases, namely, since the Late Cretaceous (ca. 110–60 Ma) and the Late Palaeogene–Early Neogene (ca. 20 Ma). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Earth's climate had undergone a global transition around 4–3 Ma, from warm to cool. The western Wei River Basin, its late Cenozoic tectonic evolution was mainly controlled by the expansion of the Tibetan Plateau, is affected by both Monsoon climate and Westerlies circulation. A set of lacustrine sediments between 4.2 and 3.6 Ma with clearly sedimentary rhythm are good materials for studying the palaeoclimate/palaeoenvironment changes and exploring the contained tectonic implications. We present a high‐resolution grain‐sized, magnetic susceptible, and carbonate content records from the palaeolake sediments at the global climate transition interval (4.2–3.6 Ma) in the western Wei River Basin. The abrupt changes of climate indicators at about 4.14–4.16 Ma, which is a regional response to global cooling, indicate that both westerly and monsoonal circulations were enhanced and should be attributed to global cooling rather than the uplift of TibetanPlateau. From 4.14 to 3.6 Ma, the climate represented stepwise strengthening or weakening with frequent fluctuations on the millennium scale and extreme dry events at 3.77–3.80 Ma. Combined with regional geological environment and palaeoclimate evolution data, the palaeolake that rapidly receded at 3.6 Ma provides evidence for the understanding the major climatic and environmental changes produced by the uplift of the Tibetan Plateau in western Wei River Basin and surrounding areas. Southwest Ningxia is located at the tectonic and geographical north‐eastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau and is an ideal site for studying continental dynamics and plateau building. The Southern Ningxia Arc Tectonic Belt (SNATB) formed during the Cenozoic period as a result of the collision between India and Eurasia and was affected by the Tibetan Plateau uplift. However, the upward growth and expansion processes of the SNATB remain unclear. We investigated the Qingshuihe Basin (a Late Cenozoic basin located between the Tianjingshan and Qingshuihe faults in the north‐eastern SNATB) using field geological surveys combined with borehole, high‐density resistivity, and optically stimulated luminescence dating. Four distinct stages in the tectonic evolution of the Qingshuihe Basin since the Late Miocene are identified, corresponding to four tectonic events in the local region influenced by the Tibetan Plateau expansion. First, the Late Miocene experienced several significant events, including tectonic stress field transitions, sedimentary hiatus, and sudden environmental changes, which may have been the first local tectonic activity due to the north‐eastward expansion of the Tibetan Plateau. Second, the Early–Middle Pleistocene growth strata in the Hejiakouzi valley (controlled by the Hejiakouzi anticline and Tianjingshan Fault) suggest that the basin‐range‐style tectonic features were basically formed in the SNATB. Third, geological investigations of lacustrine sedimentation reveal that two palaeolakes were present during the Late Pleistocene. Significant phase transitions and a sedimentary hiatus during the Late Pleistocene in the lake formations indicate a transformation of the sedimentary environment, which marked the beginning of the left‐lateral strike‐slip of the Tianjingshan Fault. Finally, the broad distribution of second‐level river terraces along the banks of the Qingshuihe and other seasonal rivers close to the Tianjingshan indicate the effect of the north‐eastward expansion of the Tibetan Plateau on the local tectonic evolution. We elucidate the stratigraphy, major unconformities, and river terraces formed since the Late Miocene in the Qingshuihe Basin, providing important information regarding the tectono‐topographical‐sedimentary system. Background: Patients are often not actively engaged in medical encounters. Short interventions like Ask 3 Questions (Ask3Q) can increase patient participation in decision‐making. Up to now, Ask3Q was not available in German. Objective: To translate Ask3Q and evaluate its acceptability and feasibility. Methods: We translated and adapted several English versions of Ask3Q using a team translation protocol and cognitive interviews. Acceptability and feasibility of the final German Ask3Q version were assessed via focus groups and interviews with patients and healthcare professionals (HCPs). Data were analysed via qualitative content analysis. Results: Translation and adaptation were successful. Participants of focus groups and interviews perceived Ask3Q as a tool to empower patients to ask more questions. Moreover, it was seen as a guideline for physicians not to forget conveying important information. Several characteristics of patients, HCPs, the clinical setting and the intervention were identified as facilitators and barriers for an effective implementation of Ask3Q. Conclusion: We provide the German version of Ask3Q. According to participants, implementation of Ask3Q in the German healthcare system is feasible. Future studies should evaluate if positive effects of Ask3Q can be replicated for patient participation and communication behaviour of HCPs in Germany. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Shared decision making (SDM) has been increasingly implemented to improve health‐care outcomes. Despite the mixed efficacy of SDM to provide better patient‐guided care, its use in surgery has not been studied. The aim of this study was to systematically review SDM application in surgery. Design: The search strategy, developed with a medical librarian, included nine databases from inception until June 2019. After a 2‐person title and abstract screen, full‐text publications were analysed. Data collected included author, year, surgical discipline, location, study duration, type of decision aid, survey methodology and variable outcomes. Quantitative and qualitative cross‐sectional studies, as well as RCTs, were included. Results: A total of 6060 studies were retrieved. A total of 148 were included in the final review. The majority of the studies were in plastic surgery, followed by general surgery and orthopaedics. The use of SDM decreased surgical intervention rate (12 of 22), decisional conflict (25 of 29), and decisional regret (5 of 5), and increased decisional satisfaction (17 of 21), knowledge (33 of 35), SDM preference (13 of 16), and physician trust (4 of 6). Time increase per patient encounter was inconclusive. Cross‐sectional studies showed that patients prefer shared treatment and surgical treatment varied less. The results of SDM per type of decision aid vary in terms of their outcome. Conclusion: SDM in surgery decreases decisional conflict, anxiety and surgical intervention rates, while increasing knowledge retained decisional satisfaction, quality and physician trust. The Ayishan Group in the Lajishan area is sandwiched between the South Qilian Belt and the Qilian Block, which is transitionally interpreted to represent the products of the post‐collision setting or the continental marginal arc during the Early Ordovician or Silurian and is associated with the evolution of the Proto‐Tethyan Ocean. While the detailed information about the age, geochemistry, and tectonic setting of the Ayishan Group is lacking, our geological mapping and analyses demonstrates that the Ayishan Group consists of andesites, rhyolites, ignimbrites, sandstones, and conglomerates, which unconformably overlies the Cambrian–Ordovician arc‐ophiolite complex. Zircon U–Pb dating of the rhyolites demonstrated that the Ayishan Group formed between 447 and 442 Ma and is Late Ordovician. Geochemical analyses demonstrated that rhyolites have high and variable SiO2 contents of 69.6–76.5 wt% and an aluminium saturation index (A/CNK) of 0.85–1.45, belonging to calc‐alkaline to high K calc‐alkaline series. They are subdivided into two subtypes of high‐Sr/Y rhyolites (HSRs) and normal rhyolites (NRs) based on the geochemical characteristics. The HSRs show lower total rare earth elements (34.77–62.78 ppm), lower Yb (0.19–0.21 ppm) and Y (1.77–1.99 ppm) contents, and relatively higher Sr contents (159–193 ppm), compared with NRs, and with positive Eu anomalies. Both subtypes exhibit extremely high whole‐rock δ18O values of 12.63–13.21‰, but various initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios and εNd(t) values, indicating a dominant origin of terrigenous sediments and the HSRs exhibit a more terrestrial composition than the NRs. Various magma sources further caused the assorted residual phase leading to the different geochemistry between the HSRs and the NRs. Combined with the previous data, these results imply that the rhyolites of the Ayishan Group were produced in the process of the amalgamation of the Qilian Block with the Qaidam Block during the Late Ordovician, which further indicated that the Proto‐Tethyan Ocean closed 450 Ma ago. The Bangong‐Nujiang suture zone, separating the Lhasa and South Qiangtang terranes of the Tibetan Plateau, is marked by remnants of the Bangong‐Nujiang oceanic basin. In the Zanzong Co area of central Tibet, non‐marine molasse deposits of the newly identified Jingzhushan Formation record the eventual collision between these two terranes and subsequent ocean–continent transform along the middle segment of the Bangong‐Nujiang suture zone. In this contribution, it is observed that the Jingzhushan Formation, characterized by lacustrine facies and braided delta facies, rests unconformably on the underlying marine strata and ophiolite. Zircon U–Pb dating has been conducted with samples of four interlayer volcanic rocks and two sandstones from the Jingzhushan Formation. The interlayer volcanic rocks constrain the depositing age from ca. 115 to 72 Ma. Based on the youngest detrital zircon ages, the maximum depositional ages of the Jingzhushan Formation are suggested to be ca. 78 Ma. Petrographic and detrital zircon isotopic results indicate that sediments in the Jingzhushan Formation have mixed sources from the South Qiangtang terrane and the intervening Bangong‐Nujiang suture zone. Provenance analysis, together with regional data, suggests that the newly identified Jingzhushan Formation reflects continental molasse deposition in an intermontane basin during the post‐collisional stage. The development of the intermontane basin evidenced by molasse deposition of the Jingzhushan Formation reveals that the ocean–continent transform of the middle segment of the Bangong‐Nujiang Ocean had been completed in the late Early Cretaceous (ca. 115 Ma).
