In between university level assessments, the BYU Library conducts internal reviews of each library department, describing its value to the library and university, and providing recommendations for improvement. The process used a team of library employees in departments not under review and an external reviewer to conduct the internal review. Using a case-study approach, the development of an internal review system, its meta-evaluation at the end of its first cycle, and the on-going efforts to improve the internal review process are described. Using a graduate level evaluation class followed by a task force, changes were made to the internal review process that has standardized assessment, allowed flexibility for each department, and solidified training for both the department under review and the review team. Each of the findings and recommended changes helped to address the internal review's first-round weaknesses and struggles. The result is a stronger, consistent process that provides additional training and guidance for each internal review. This article is a case study that describes a library wide process used by an academic library to describe the value of each department and to provide feedback for improvement between university reviews. The process engages all library employees as each department is reviewed and helps to create a culture of assessment. Albert S. Cook Library at Towson University was charged with developing a new strategic plan under new library leadership and in the midst of remote work due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This article details Bryson (2018)'s Strategy Change Cycle as an approach for an academic library for conducting bottom-up strategic planning. Additionally, the project details department break-out activities that were used to help library employees stay engaged in an activity that had to be conducted remotely and in the midst of telework fatigue. This work is framed within the context of moving to a model of strategic management instead of one-and-done strategic planning as well as considering how to integrate a Critical Management Studies lens to make sure all feel included and empowered. Building on the embodied consumption literature, we draw on Merleau-Ponty's theory of art to consider how new modes of visibility arise in interactions between individuals online. Focusing on one particular virtual and collaborative museum programme, we use ethnomethodological analysis of interactions to analyse video recordings of virtual arts conversations. The analysis explores how participants render visible their orientation to each other and to the works of art discussed in the workshop. Thus, we can see how participants produce the sense and significance of works of art in, and through 'intercorporeal interactions' while participating in a virtual arts programme. To foster high levels of inclusiveness, the principles of DEI should be incorporated in every aspect of a library, from interactions with customers to hiring and staffing processes. Without a structured approach, this task can seem overwhelming. This paper demonstrates how Vaughan Public Libraries enshrined DEI into its Strategic Plan, enabling staff to build it into their decision-making, and how the library remade processes to generate understanding and be more representative of the diversity within its community. Here, we look at the impact of the scientific production of Brazilian research institutions. Data were collected from SciVal and InCites for governmental research institutions (state and federal), and then we focussed on the two largest: Embrapa (Agriculture) and Fiocruz (Health). Institutions in the area of health, environment and physics tended to show higher impact than other areas, those in physics showed low first, last and corresponding authorships (<20%). Health institutions had a high profile in Policy and Patents, especially abroad, while agriculture had a more local impact. Citations in policy documents increased impact by 220%. Brazilian institutions in Defence, Agriculture, Energy & Nuclear, and Economic areas generally perform below world means. While some institutions may show a higher impact on specific indicators, the present study raises the need for an in-depth analysis of these institutions and their return on investments. Information contained here can help these institutions in strategic planning to improve impact results, including the uptake of science by the Brazilian government. While Fiocruz seems to meet this demand, Embrapa still needs to reaffirm its space within the system. Business strategy literature argues that firm survival and growth in any competitive environment depend on the adaptation of suitable competitive business strategies. Despite the growing interest in strategic management within the fish farming industry, there is a notable lack of empirical evidence exploring how the competitive environment influences companies’ business strategy and performance. This paper examines the direct effect of competitive strategy and the moderating effect of competitive intensity on business strategy-performance relationship. Using hierarchical regression to analyze 306 samples gathered from fish farming firms of south-Benin, empirical evidence shows that competitive strategy including cost-leadership, and both product quality and marketing differentiation strategies impact positively firm financial performance. This research highlights the relative importance of product quality differentiation strategy. In addition, findings indicate that competitive intensity structure contribute to firm success. Surprisingly, findings show that competitive intensity does not significantly moderate the effect of cost-leadership and product differentiation strategies. Besides, the effect of marketing strategy on firm performance becomes more negative under high competition in the domestic market. Study recommends that firms should gain organizational economic outcomes by pursuing cost-leadership strategy and product differentiation strategy whatever competitive intensity states in the domestic market of fish farming. Strategic documents are artifacts that can reveal evidence of an institution's teaching culture and, ideally, can influence how teaching is valued, rewarded, and resourced. This paper describes how an Institutional Teaching Culture framework based on six well-researched levers was applied to analyze strategic documents for indicators of teaching culture. Analyses conducted at five Canadian universities identified strengths and gaps within and across documents which, in turn, helped guide conversations about enhancing representations of institutional teaching culture. School systems in North America have widely adopted social-emotional learning (SEL) to promote students' well-being and academic development over the last few decades. Despite the abundant evidence supporting the efficacy of content-specific, standalone SEL interventions, there is little knowledge about how to infuse SEL practices into regular academic curriculum or how to leverage SEL as a strategy for systemic improvement. The research is especially lacking among English learners, a rapidly growing population in U.S. schools. Literacy classrooms framed with an equity lens can play a pivotal role in shaping students to become critically reflective, deeply empathetic, and socially responsible individuals. This paper integrates a discussion of effective social-emotional curriculum and relevance of culturally responsive teaching. We propose a new pedagogical approach CULTURE that emphasises inclusive classroom practices. The goal is to create a meaningful and equitable classroom learning environment for English learners, where they could actively reflect on and integrate their worldviews, lived experiences, values, identities, strengths, and cultural assets into various aspects of their literacy development so that they could feel empowered to navigate their own social and emotional learning, and contribute to their schools and communities. Port operators and liner shipping companies attempt to gain cost and competitive advantages by providing services in complementary maritime-related areas. In line with this purpose, companies undertake a task known as Global Terminal Operator (GTO). Substantially, there are more than 21 GTOs of various sizes involved in container terminal operations worldwide, handling 80% of the total containerized cargo traffic. In recent years, there have been drastic changes in the GTO market with numerous mergers, acquisitions, and concessions. However, academic and sectoral studies have fallen short of keeping up with these changes. To fill the gap in research, a dynamic portfolio analysis has been carried out within the scope of this novel study for the first time for the GTOs with the help of BCG Matrix analyses. Findings reveal that GTOs followed different development paths with respect to their distinctive characteristics. Major operators maintained their market dominance, unlike the minors who followed an unsteady path of development. This paper contributes to the academic literature by conducting a comprehensive market analysis for the GTO sector and revealing the dynamic development courses as well as strategic competitive positions of the operators from a managerial perspective toward shaping future strategic plans of the industry stakeholders. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are promoted as a global action plan for transformational change. Through calls to localise the global agenda, local governments have been made key actors in implementing the agenda. In Norway, the government ascribes municipalities a formal role in the national effort to implement the SDGs. Drawing on the concept of policy translation, we explore localisation processes at the strategic level of planning in Norwegian municipalities. Through analysis of municipal master plans and interviews with planners, we find that municipalities use a selective approach, prioritising goals that largely support existing policies, while more challenging goals become lost in translation. We argue that while the Norwegian planning system provides an institutional framework for implementing and following up on the SDGs, new rounds of translation will be needed to also handle difficult goals, if the SDGs are to create actual and much-needed policy change. We present 11 evidence-based practices for teaching writing to students. These include recommendations for teaching writing to younger students (aged 5–11) and older students (aged 6–18). The recommendations are based on findings from close to 1000 investigations. The proposed recommendations are (1) students need to write, but writing is not enough; (2) students need to be supported as they write; (3) foundational writing skills (handwriting, spelling, grammar and sentence construction) need to be taught; (4) students become better writers when strategies for planning, revising and editing are taught; (5) teaching creativity, critical thinking and imagery can enhances writing; (6) teach students how to write summaries; (7) enhance students' knowledge about writing; (8) use twenty-first century writing tools in the classroom; (9) have students write across the curriculum; (10) connect reading and writing instruction and (11) creative a motivating writing environment. This article analyzes the implementation of a novel concept in Norwegian planning and building law (PBA), the Regional Planning Strategy (RPS), which was introduced before the 2011-2015 electoral period. How the RPS was understood and implemented is the focus of this analysis. This article presents new knowledge of how new strategic elements unfold within a country’s legal framework through its implementation in practice. We add to the planning-theory dialogue by discussing translation by regional re-contextualization in the implementation of a new element in regional strategic planning (Røvik 1998, 2002). A study of the implementation of the RPS over three ‘generations’ (2011-2022) reveals interesting and surprising differences. Drawing on translation theory, we find that the translation, contextualization, and re-contextualization of the PBA with respect to the implementation of RPSs were diverse in 2011/12, that there was a convergence in the second generation, and that diversity reappears in new ways in the third generation. This article confirms how a new idea like RPS develops in regional planning processes is dependent on the central government’s need and ability to manage the counties’ RPS work, as well as the counties’ need and ability to make regional adjustments and to set their own political priorities. This study examines how managers test strategies, focusing on their understanding of the strategic planning process, and aims to develop a framework for integrating cutting-edge technologies in strategy testing. We used elite interviews with top hotel managers in Turkey and a hermeneutic approach to establish this framework. Results indicate that managers have limited knowledge of strategy testing, which is not yet recognized as a distinct phase in strategy development. Scenario planning and AI-driven methods are only minimally adopted in the industry. We introduced a “techno-human” model that integrates AI and human-oriented decision-making for strategy testing. This AMEE guide discusses theoretical principles and practical strategies for health professions educators to promote impactful mentoring relationships. Traditional definitions are challenged, distinctions are made between roles such as mentor, advisor, coach and sponsor. As educational environments change and options for professional development expand, we argue that the traditional dyadic format of mentoring alone will not help mentees to maximise their professional growth. Newer formats of mentoring are discussed in detail and their advantages and disadvantages compared. We use a variety of theoretical concepts to anchor the practice of mentorship: self-focussed and other-focussed motives; psychological safety; personal interpretive framework; Daloz model for balancing support and challenge; zone of proximal development; communities of practice; and development along multiple layers of competence. Recommended strategies for effective mentoring are based on extensive review of literature, as well as combined professional mentoring experiences of the authors. We use key principles from the theories described and phases of mentoring relationships as foundations for the suggested best practices of mentorship. Finally, we emphasise the role of mentees in their own professional development and provide tips for them on seeking mentors, expanding their mentoring network and taking the lead in setting the agenda during mentoring meetings and formulating action plans for their own advancement. Taekwondo is one of the representative martial arts that originated in Korea. It offers many positive benefits, such as improving cardiovascular strength, balance, and flexibility. Teaching Taekwondo provides a unique experience for students to learn self-defense skills, culturally diverse activities, and life-long fitness. This article presents strategies for teaching Taekwondo to students with disabilities. Specifically, it discusses fundamental and appropriate techniques of Taekwondo, provides modified techniques and equipment, and suggests several instructional ideas and activities. Furthermore, this article focuses on the inclusive learning environment for students with disabilities to learn Taekwondo. In short, understanding various Taekwondo teaching strategies helps physical education teachers or adapted physical education teachers to tailor their instruction to meet the specific needs and abilities of various students with disabilities. Goal setting and grade loss aversion have individually been found to be effective motivators for student performance. We combine these two strategies to investigate, in a university setting, the effectiveness of grade endowment within a goal-setting framework. Our participants set grade goals which some must earn the traditional way, thus framed as 'gains', while others are awarded their target grade upfront, thus framed as 'losses'. We find a positive impact of goal setting on student performance. We also find that the effect of grade goals framed as 'losses' is numerically, but not statistically, greater than those framed as 'gains'. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Due to the minimal role of statutory city-regional planning in Finland, the Finnish state promotes inter-municipal, integrated planning of land-use, housing and transportation in the biggest city regions by a strategic planning instrument and a contractual policy tool called MAL procedure. MAL procedure includes MAL agreements, where the central government agrees to fund transportation infrastructure, while the municipalities in the city-regions commit to certain planning principles. MAL policy has advanced sustainability goals in planning, but it has also been argued to be prone to legitimacy problems as MAL negotiations take place behind the backs of citizens. The article discusses the structure of the MAL policy, assessing the ways in which this structure supports the legitimacy of the policy. It focuses on the interplay of strategic and communicative rationalities in the MAL procedure, starting from the observation that the theorists of strategic planning have focused predominately on communicative rationality as the legitimacy basis of planning. This paper aims to show that from a broader, structural perspective, both rationalities – and the way in which they interact – have a role in maintaining the legitimacy of planning. We analyse the action space for strategic planning and sustainability transition among planners in Swedish municipalities. We use qualitative and quantitative materials from 103 survey responses obtained from Swedish municipal planners. Our analysis shows that the size and type (e.g. population and density) of the municipality where the planners work are connected to their perceived action space, where policies for densely populated cities are less relevant for rural municipalities. Even if size matters for the action space for sustainability transition, this action space can be modified (e.g. access to resources and participation in networks) and continuously constructed. Background: Across the globe, shortages of nurses and midwives in rural regions persist. Advanced practice nursing has been found to address workforce shortages through career progression aimed at retention. A regional health service sought to consult with staff about developing an advanced practice nursing framework. Aims: This study aimed to explore the perspectives of nurses and midwives at a regional health service on (i) how their roles aligned with the modified Advanced Practice Role Delineation (APRD) tool and (ii) the potential for implementation of such a framework at their service. Design: A case study conducted at Goulburn Valley Health (GVH) in southeast Australia used a mixed method design with a survey of all nursing and midwifery staff and focus groups with senior staff. Methods: All nurses and midwives were asked to complete a validated modified ARPD questionnaire and those in Grades 3–6 were asked to participate in a focus group. Results: From 183 questionnaires and 38 participants in the focus group discussions, findings concurred that nurses and midwives at GVH reported spending most time on direct patient care and minimal time on research activities, publication and/or leadership. While education was strongly embraced and advanced practice usually supported, senior staff cited the lack of resources, the culture and staff shortages as restricting opportunities for education, career development and implementation of an advanced practice framework. Conclusions: While an advanced practice framework could address staff shortages at this health service, implementation of such a framework is constrained by the lack of resources and workforce shortages common in rural health services. A national strategy that embeds advanced practice roles and resources implementation of advanced practice nursing and midwifery frameworks in areas of need is recommended. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article reflects on the development of green infrastructure as planning concept and inspects the status of the concept's implementation under the umbrella of the EU-strategy for the Alpine Region. Qualitative methods, including policy analysis and interviews, were used to evaluate the understanding of the concept among relevant stakeholders from Alpine countries. The results show that there is little agreement with regard to understanding the concept, and that there was a lack of common practice towards its implementation in the 2014–2020 EU budget period. The macro-regional setting consists of the macro regional strategy and the financial support for projects and measures provided via the Alpine Space Programme and The Alpine Region Preparatory Action Fund (ARPAF). The policy analysis reveals that some of the Alpine countries were more pro-active and have either integrated the concept into existing policies (nature protection, planning, environmental policies and so on) or possess GI specific legislation. It was concluded that the existence of various perceptions and views on the concept hinder the successful implementation of the concept and its integration into lower governance levels. Evidence is growing to support mind-body practices (e.g. yoga) as a therapeutic intervention for many health conditions. In the UK, yoga is promoted as a social prescription asset by the National Health Service (NHS), yet the factors influencing its implementation are poorly understood. This study explored the attitudes, knowledge and understanding of mind-body practices as a social prescribing asset amongst health science populations within higher education. Twenty-six health science staff and students completed an online questionnaire. Data analysis used a mixed-methods approach, employing thematic analysis for qualitative data and calculating the net promoter score (NPS) to assess participants’ inclination to recommend mind-body practices as a social prescribing asset. Nineteen participants (73%) were aware of the term ‘social prescription’ and understood it to be a non-clinical, community-based alternative to medication. Whilst participants were aware of the physical benefits of mind-body practices, particularly yoga, they lacked awareness of the social, emotional, and spiritual benefits. Although 42% of participants would recommend mind-body practices as a social prescribing asset (NPS of 15), the opposite was true for yoga (NPS of −15), potentially due to poor knowledge or personal engagement with yoga. This study underlines the importance of increasing understanding and promoting yoga as an adjuvant mind-body practice to achieve social, emotional, and spiritual benefits. Implementing educational strategies to increase knowledge of mind-body practices and yoga, with a focus on social prescribing practice, may help to improve future referral pathways in practice in line with the NHS long term plan. This study investigates the impact, recovery and resilience of COVID-19 on South Africa's Limpopo Province's tourism industry. The study utilises surveys (n = 115) and interviews (n = 50) to examine the impact, recovery, resilience, success and challenges of various tourism-related businesses, including national parks, restaurants, and hotels. Despite minimal government support and significant challenges like erratic utilities, high inflation, and a global economic downturn, the sector showed resilience, with few business failures. While some businesses in the accommodation sector diversified into areas like student accommodation, some survived by cutting the number of staff, tapping into savings, borrowing and adopting various cost containment measures to survive the pandemic. Post the pandemic, the sector faces issues like decreased demand due to technological changes in meetings and conferences and employee mental health concerns. This study examined whether college students with and without depression or anxiety differed in subjective cognitive concerns, academic self-efficacy, and cognitive strategy use. Participants included 582 college students (M = 19.0 ± 1.0 years-old, 79.4% women, 81.9% White). Participants completed online self-report questionnaires on subjective cognitive functioning, academic self-efficacy, cognitive strategy use, and depression and anxiety symptoms, which were used to categorize participants as having anxiety or depression based on established clinical cutoffs. Participants with anxiety or depression reported greater subjective cognitive concerns and lower academic self-efficacy compared to participants without anxiety or depression, but these groups differed only modestly in cognitive strategy use. Despite greater cognitive concerns, participants with anxiety or depression reported only modestly greater cognitive strategy use. Future research should evaluate interventions to increase strategy use among college students with anxiety or depression, tailoring these interventions for modern students by incorporating telehealth approaches and smartphone use. The online grocery industry's swift expansion and intense competition underscore the urgency to tackle sustainable business and cost issues while adapting to consumer trends requires higher prices for continued profit. Utilizing complexity theory, the present study aims to explore the impact of proactive and collaborative strategies on customer-brand engagement and experience, ultimately fostering an increased willingness to pay a premium. Accordingly, the results (n = 406) show that proactive customer orientation and value co-creation significantly increase the customer experience and foster higher levels of customer-brand engagement, ultimately increasing willingness to pay more. Notably, the mediation analysis reveals that customer-brand engagement serves as a mediating factor in the relationship between customer experience and the willingness to pay more. This study contributes to the online grocery shopping literature by integrating proactive and collaborative strategies and investigates customer experience and engagement through the lens of complexity theory. Objectives: Persons with disabilities (PWD) often experience risks associated with HIV/AIDS including unmet needs and overlooked stigmatization. This could be attributed to certain misconceptions such as PWDs are asexual, and cannot enjoy sexual pleasure, among others. Therefore, this paper sought to investigate the extent of disability inclusion in recent National Strategic Plans (NSPs) for HIV/AIDS in West African countries. Methods: This study was a policy review of NSPs in 13 African countries. Relevant indicators in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the UNAIDS International Guidelines on HIV and Human Rights were used. Six indicators (identification of people living with disability (PLWD) as a key population, the inclusion of principles related to PWD within the NSPs on HIV/AIDS, protecting the rights of PWD, recognition of PWD as a vulnerable population at higher risk of HIV and in need of special protection, providing HIV-related support services for PWD and monitoring and evaluating the impact of HIV on PWD). Results: Findings from this study revealed that only 30% of West African countries recognized disability as an issue of concern. Also, 38.5% of these countries recognize the vulnerability of people with disabilities to HIV. However, only a few (7.6%) provided support in the context of special needs, monitoring, and surveillance specifically for persons with disabilities. Conclusion: Most of the West African NSPs are outdated and due for renewal. Therefore, it is necessary to integrate the needs of persons with disabilities within the context of HIV/AIDS in the NSPs. Secure mental healthcare staff provide care in the context of exposure to violence and restrictive practices. Yet, despite recognition of the moral dilemmas afforded by these events, they are yet to be explored within a moral injury framework. The current study sought to explore the potentially morally injurious effects of violence and restrictive practices through an intersectional lens. A cross-sectional survey was completed by 222 secure mental healthcare professionals. Associations between exposure to violence, restrictive practices and moral injury were significant in white female participants only. When entered into a hierarchical regression, exposure to violence significantly predicted moral injury score for this group, and nullified the effects of restrictive practices. The findings position restrictive practices and exposure to violence as potential sources of moral injury for white female healthcare professionals. Most studies on deception in soccer penalty kicks have focused on the deceptive actions used by penalty takers. However, it is worth noting that deception can also be played out by goalkeepers. To examine the effectiveness of goalkeepers' deceptive actions in professional competition, we analysed 714 penalty kicks taken during matches in the English Premier League and German Bundesliga, spanning the seasons from 2016–2017 to 2019–2020. We scored whether goalkeepers used deception, and if so, what type of deception, the outcome of the penalty and the kicking strategy of the penalty taker. The results showed that goalkeepers used deception in half of the penalty kicks, resulting in significantly less goals compared to penalties without deception. This advantage was similar for the different types of deception, but larger when penalty takers paid attention to goalkeepers. We propose that the deceptive actions by goalkeepers are effective, mainly because it leads the penalty taker to lose focus. To address this gap, this study proposes a strategic roadmapping methodology to standardize and enhance its applicability in academia and practice. This methodology offers an approach to develop a strategic roadmap, involving defining the roadmap's vision and boundaries, identifying critical initiatives, establishing priorities and contextual relationships, and highlighting the importance of continuous monitoring and updating. The inclusion of peer work within mental health policy offers potential for lived experience expertise to shape the construction of, and subsequent responses to, mental health 'problems'. However, increasingly, scholars and activists are highlighting limits to such inclusionary practices. We explore these tensions through a critical analysis of problem representations including peer workers within Australian mental health policy. Drawing on Mad studies and user/survivor scholarship, we suggest that despite popular conceptions of inclusion as having universally positive effects, the inclusion of peer workers within policy has both liberating and troubling effects. Such effects include positioning peer workers as complicit in managing 'problems' that reinforce psy-regimes of governance and limiting the political subjectivities available to promote alternative representations. By highlighting such complexity, we endeavour to create opportunities for re-imagining peer work and inclusion in ways that bring such practices closer to achieving self-determination and social justice. Individuals with lived experience of distress are increasingly included within mental health systems through employment as peer workers. The inclusion of peer workers has both the potential to challenge, and to reinforce, existing ways of thinking and relating within the mental health system. This article looks at the ways that peer workers are included in Australian mental health policy, and the potential consequences for peer workers and peer work practice. We suggest that attention needs to be paid to both the liberating and troubling aspects of inclusion, to ensure that peer work continues to challenge unhelpful ways of thinking and relating regarding mental health. To investigate strategies used by professionals in pediatric rehabilitation to engage children in every step of the intervention process, including assessment, goal setting, planning and implementation of the intervention, and results evaluation. A scoping literature review was conducted, and seven databases were searched, including CINAHL and MEDLINE, ProQuest Central, PsycINFO, Social Science Premium Collection, PubMed, and Web of Science. A citation search of included articles was completed. Predetermined criteria, quality standards, and PIO framework guided the selection process. Results were presented in relation to Self-Determination Theory (SDT) and the contextual model of therapeutic change. In total, 20 studies were included in the review. Pediatric professionals reported that therapeutic use of self and their own engagement in the intervention facilitated the establishment of a supportive relationship. Providing clear explanations about their role and therapy rationale developed positive expectations. By making the child feel successful within-session and outside-session activities, professionals enhanced child mastery. Professionals' strategies were abstractly described. Further research is needed to investigate strategies that are effective in the different steps of the intervention. The prevailing current context of neoliberalism has often been viewed as curtailing the prophetic expression of the Catholic identity of Catholic educational institutions (CEIs). This article proposes that only by reclaiming their prophetic identity can CEIs flourish authentically in the neoliberal era. A faith-based approach to addressing the challenges of neoliberalism is presented, drawing upon the principles of prophetic imagination described by Brueggemann. Strategic planning's popularity in public organizations cannot be denied, with legislative initiatives even making it mandatory for certain public organizations. Due to strategic planning's continued popularity in practice, recent years have seen a surge in research on the topic. A synthesis of said research is necessary to identify empirical, conceptual, theoretical, and methodological challenges that remain to be tackled. Drawing from a systematic review of 75 studies through a Strategy-as-Practice lens, this paper contributes to public management theory, research, and practice in three significant ways. First, it provides a structured synthesis and integration of a growing and disparate body of literature, offering a roadmap for future research on strategic planning in public organizations. Second, it proposes a middle-range theoretical framework that captures the complex and dynamic nature of strategic planning in public organizations, providing insight into how strategic planning is conducted and why it may or may not work in certain contexts. Finally, it offers practical relevance for public managers and other public professionals by providing an overview of the various strategic planning choices available and how to optimize them according to their unique contexts and desired outcomes. Strategic management in the public sector has become quite popular in practice and several studies have shown that it has an impact on organizational performance. However, we still know little of how strategic management unfolds in practice. Overall, our message is that there are specific challenges that appear when applying strategic management in a public sector context that need to be handled to enhance the possibility of succeeding with strategy work. We present these challenges in terms of four tensions emerging in strategy work: planned versus emergent strategies, legitimacy versus practicality, administrative management versus innovative approach, and accessibility versus security. The article illuminates how local government uses strategic planning in a context characterized as neo-liberalist-oriented housing market, to frame the broad varieties of planning and policy-instruments they possess to reach the goal of more inclusive housing markets. In line with other studies showing how European cities take passive, active, reactive and protective roles in their housing policies, our study of four Norwegian front-runner cities shows that their roles vary. Two of the cities, Tromsø and Oslo, have taken the most explicitly stated proactive role – by having a clear redistributional goal of ‘affordable housing’ and have established operational units in their organization (or by public-private companies) to implement it. All the cities have worked systematically with a more comprehensive housing policy, which have increased their ability to integrate their policy areas and use their different policy tools in a coordinated effort for more inclusive housing markets. There have been two events in the planning at Athens over the last twenty years: the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Greek debt crisis (2008–2018). We analyse here whether any form of planning other than classic strategic planning was used for these events. The Olympics are a mega event and are often seen as the Holy Grail, an ideal way to boost a city's appeal. A debt crisis implies a policy of austerity. The article’s objective is to explore whether an exceptional strategic planning was implemented for these two exceptional events, side-by-side to the classic strategic planning. This planning method and the way it was rolled out bear the marks of intense private sector involvement, a top-down decision-making process, together with urgency, derogations from the usual project rules, and a focus on a return on investment and limited risk-taking. Planning like this can lead to a contradiction with the spatial priorities of traditional planning, or to a legacy turned more towards the qualitative improvement of the city, by a concern for developing its international attractiveness, rather than to giving priority to adaptation to local needs. Objectives: In this study, the project team was interested in learning from Wisconsin farmers and farm families about: (1) the unique stressors farmers face, (2) the barriers that exist for farmers to seek help for mental and physical health, and (3) coping strategies that could be implemented to help farm families cope with stress. Methods: The project team collected qualitative data utilizing standardized questions during three focus groups held via Zoom. The 10 participants were from various Wisconsin farm enterprises including dairy, beef, and produce farms. Data were coded into five codes: stressors, farmers as a unique subculture, barriers to seeking help, coping strategies, and strategies for addressing barriers to seeking help. Results: Participants emphasized the need for healthcare professionals to better understand farming is more than a job; it is their life. The top stressor was time pressure and the top barrier to seeking care was workload, which make it challenging to get off the farm. Stigma and self-reliance are additional barriers in the farming community. Participants offered strategies to address these barriers, including learning how to effectively communicate with farmers and raising awareness of mental health issues in rural communities. Conclusion: The insights from this study can inform rural healthcare professionals on strategies to better support the mental and physical well-being of farmers and their families in Wisconsin and rural communities in the United States. Appreciative inquiry is a strength-based organisational transformation approach developed in 1987 by David Cooperrider at Case Western Reserve. It is based on the idea that organisational change is more effective when the approach focuses on the positive attributes and experiences within an organisation instead of the challenges. Several studies have been conducted on applying appreciative inquiry in the strategic planning process at higher education institutions to discover the impact of appreciative inquiry on organisations and individuals. This study examines how the use of appreciative inquiry in a higher education institution's strategic planning process influenced participants' emotional, social and professional experiences. We found that using appreciative inquiry in the strategic planning process may improve contributor social experiences and attitudes towards an organisation, which could lead to higher retention rates through greater contributor satisfaction levels. In an era when uncertainty and complexity are more tangible than ever, decision-makers are under pressure to turn from short-term politics and departmentalization to safeguard not only current wellbeing but also the wellbeing of future generations via longer term planning and visioning. In regions, as multilevel governance systems, no actor has the power to determine the decisions of others. Place leadership demands the mobilization of different actors to define an effective strategy for future development, by combining institutional, interpretive and network power in a dynamic manner. This paper reflects on how leadership and power shape shared vision in regional foresight processes, and the role of academic knowledge. We conduct an in-depth single case study analysis of 'Euskadi 2040', the visioning initiative launched by the Basque regional government in collaboration with the research institute Orkestra. We articulate five main contributions of research institutes: facilitating the systemic character of the vision; incorporating academic action-oriented knowledge; supporting the divergence from traditional linear planning paradigms towards flexible learning-centred approaches to policy; promoting an interinstitutional and multi-agent shared discourse; and lastly, leveraging knowledge transfer within international networks. Learner engagement is essential for deep and sustained learning, yet it is seldom included in empirical frameworks for effective continuing professional development (CPD), which tend to privilege broad design features over learner-centred strategies. In this critical case study, I consider this gap by applying the lens of self-determination theory (SDT) to analyse in depth what one U.S.-based teacher described as a transformational professional learning experience. Observing the ways in which learner engagement and facilitators' pedagogical practices combine to satisfy SDT's basic needs of autonomy, competence, and relatedness and to shape this teacher's practice, I suggest that relational responsiveness – what the focus teacher in this study calls 'regard' – is an important and under-theorised quality in powerful professional learning. This paper investigates institutional isomorphism within English social housing through the theoretical lens of strategic performance management. By employing a multiple case study analysis, we uncover how external isomorphic pressures are sensed within the organization as a strategic dissonance through its strategic performance management system. Housing Associations (HAs) need to respond to these 'sensed' external changes by adapting their internal strategic performance management, which are then measured and reported in a rapidly changing external environment. We argue that by focusing on changes in managing performance, organizational performance can become a lens by which the internalization of isomorphic pressures in social housing can be studied. The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted many businesses, forcing them to either close down or suspend operation for an extended time period. Since hospitality and tourism (H&T) companies are interrelated, closure of business may cause ripple effects and negatively affect individuals, organizations, and communities. Maintaining operation is especially important for some H&T units, when they are integral parts of larger H&T operations, such as the restaurants in the integrated resorts in Macao. Fighting to lose less, therefore, becomes one of their new business objectives in this prolonged battle. This paper explores how fine-dining restaurants in the integrated resorts in Macao adjust their business and operations in a highly uncertain and unpredictable environment. The findings present a Three-R Strategy Model (Reducing, Revising, and Reviving), which differs from strategies deployed in other crisis scenarios. This research focuses on the HR strategy implementation process, and in particular on the concept of HR system strength. In this paper we analyze the impact of HR system strength on collective affective commitment and examine this relationship from a contingent perspective, taking into account the moderating effect of leader-member exchange (LMX) and organizational size. The statistical analysis of data obtained from a sample of 142 Spanish companies and 504 key employees indicates that, when the effect of HR practices on collective affective commitment is controlled for, the strength of the HR system also has a positive and significant effect on this affective commitment. Moreover, we conclude that this relationship is not the same for all companies, but depends on the level of LMX in the organization. That is, depending on the overall relationship between leaders and subordinates in the organization, the effect of HR system strength on workforce affective commitment will vary. Strategic planning is integral to government performance management reforms in both China and the United States. How do the two countries differ in their planning approaches? This study examines this issue by using Charles Lindblom's theory of synoptic and strategic planning. It shows that China relies on centralized, elite-led synoptic planning, rooted in its Communist legacy, while the United States, with its focus on social interaction in policymaking, places value on preference-guided and consultation-based strategic planning.
