Abstract

The article looks on the performance of four different ports located in and around Antofagasta, Chile as of September 2013. Two of these ports are publicly-owned while the other two is privately-owned by Minera Escondida Ltda. and a consortium of Ultramar Ltda. and the construction company Empresa Constructora Belfi SA. The city's contribution on the country's gross domestic product and the different institutional status and context of these ports are also discussed.
