Background. The increasing incidence of cancer combined with prolonged survival times seen throughout the western world increases the need for rehabilitation. Diagnosis and treatment for cancer may have substantial effects on the patients' physical, psychological, social and existential well-being. The aim of this paper is to describe the current situation in cancer rehabilitation in the Nordic countries, the Netherlands and Germany. Material and methods. Description of the current situation in cancer rehabilitation in the Nordic countries and literature review. Results. Rehabilitation as defined by multiple organizations covers a multidimensional view on chronic disease and its effect on the patient's life. The rehabilitation systems in Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands differ depending on the differing social security and health-care systems, but rehabilitation provided is largely based on a similar, multidimensional and multidisciplinary understanding of cancer rehabilitation. Research on rehabilitation efforts in European countries indicates that there is substantial evidence with regard to single interventions which can be part of cancer rehabilitation. Discussion. Objectives. The aim of the study was to better understand the associations between work factors and professional support among dentists ( Collegial Support) as well as the sense of being part of a work community characterized by trust ( Community with Trust). Methods. A questionnaire was sent to 1835 general dental practitioners, randomly selected from the members of dental associations in Sweden and Denmark in 2008. The response rate was 68%. Two models with the outcome variables Collegial Support and being part of a Community with Trust were built using multiple hierarchical linear regression. Demographic background factors, work factors, managerial factors and factors relating to objectives and to values characterizing climate of the practice were all introduced as blocks into the models. Results. A different pattern emerged for Collegial Support than for Community with Trust, indicating different underlying mechanisms. The main results were: (I) Female, married/cohabitant, collegial network outside the practice, common breaks, formalized managerial education of leader and a climate characterized by professional values, which were positively associated with Collegial Support, while number of years as a dentist and being managerially responsible were negatively associated. (II) Common breaks, decision authority and a climate characterized by professional values were positively associated with Community with Trust. Conclusion. A professionally-oriented practice climate and having common breaks at work were strongly associated with both outcome variables. The aim of this study was to determine whether the Core Set Questionnaire developed recently by the European Society of Cutaneous Lupus Erythematosus (EUSCLE) is a useful tool to evaluate clinical features and therapeutic strategies in cutaneous lupus erythematosus. Disease characteristics were analysed in 50 patients with different subtypes of cutaneous lupus erythematosus from two European centres (Germany and Sweden). Mean age at onset of disease was 42.0 ± 13.3 years (range: 7-69 years) and this differed significantly between the cutaneous lupus erythematosus subtypes. Moreover, 22 (44.0%) of the patients with cutaneous lupus erythematosus fulfilled four or more of the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) criteria; however, only 7 (14.0%) had severe systemic organ manifestations, such as kidney involvement. The analysis of serological features, such as antinuclear antibodies, revealed further significant differences between the cutaneous lupus erythematosus subtypes. In conclusion, the EUSCLE Core Set Questionnaire provides a useful tool for standardized collection and statistical analysis of data on cutaneous lupus erythematosus in clinical practice.
