- Abstract
The book has been written in a simplified manner. It covers 102 common pediatric signs and symptoms. Each sign and symptom is elaborated methodologically. It starts with a short introduction which includes the meaning of sign and symptom, prevalence in practice, common points to be covered during collecting information from parents, analysis of data and probable etiology. Common causes for each sign and symptom are enlisted. They are arranged in the sequence of seeing on the practice to highlight their clinical importance and not grouped as system wise. The most common causes are kept first, then less common and rare ones at the last. Very rare causes are not included in the list to maintain the interest of the reader and to avoid undue length of the manuscript. Plenty of tables and clinical photographs are included for easy retrieval of information and good visual impression. Most of clinical photographs are of our own patients.

All recent classifications have been included and topics, like ‘Scaphocapitate Fracture Syndrome,'have been explained in a lucid and clear manner. There are additions of some new techniques like arthroscopy as well as arthroplasty written by experts in those fields. A section on ‘General Surgery'is given which would rival any general surgery textbook, means a student has to deal with one less book. The information is with special reference to the orthopedic students, so that this extra nonetheless essential knowledge is easy to grasp. The real surprise, however, is the chapter on the Spine. - Abstract
The aim of this book is to focus on the clinical orthopaedic diagnosis. Orthopedics is a medical specialty that focuses on the diagnosis, correction, prevention, and treatment of patients with skeletal deformities - disorders of the bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves and skin. Orthopaedic practice demands repetitive and complex decision making. All decisions are necessarily influenced by non-scientific considerations, such as limited facilities, patients'non-compliance, and financial constraints, as well as the current limitations of orthopaedic science. This book consists of 25 chapters, which include orthopaedic, examination of long bones, joints, shoulder joints, elbow joints, wrist joints, hand, spine, pelvis, low backache, examination of paralytic patients, hip, knee, ankle joints, foot, peripheral nerve injuries, bone tumours, mandible and temporomandibular joint, gross examination of head injury, gross assessment of chest injuries, advanced diagnostic imaging, and syndromes related to orthopaedics and traumatology. In addition to the clinical examination methodology, relevant clinical anatomy of the region being dealt with in a chapter has been described at the beginning of each chapter. The clinical pictures and X-rays collated over the life-time covers almost all orthopaedic diseases, deformities and traumatology. This book is recommended to be kept in all clinics taking care of orthopaedic diseases, disorders and trauma.
