The frequencies and amplitudes of the broken rotor bar (BRB) fault features are the basis for the accurate diagnosis of the BRB fault. However, how to accurately detect their frequency and amplitudes has always been a difficult problem for induction motor fault detection. For this problem, a new fault detection method based on an improved multiple signal classification (MUSIC) and least-squares magnitude estimation is proposed. First, since the fixed-step traversal search reduces the computational efficiency of MUSIC, a niche bare-bones particle swarm optimization (NBPSO) for multimodal peaks search is proposed to improve MUSIC, which is used to compute the frequency values of fault-related and fundamental components in stator current signal. Second, using these frequency values, a fault current signal model is established to convert the magnitude estimation problem into a linear least-squares problem. On this basis, the amplitudes and phases of fault-related and fundamental components could be estimated accurately with the singular value decomposition (SVD). A simulation signal is used to test the new method and the results show that the proposed method not only has higher frequency resolution, but also improves estimation accuracy of parameters greatly even with short data window. Objective. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) and serum uric acid (UA) in Chinese children and adolescents with idiopathic short stature (ISS). Methods. A cross-sectional study of 91 Chinese children and adolescents with ISS was performed. Anthropometric measurements and biochemical parameters were tested. The standard deviation score of IGF-1 (IGF-1 SDS) was calculated. Results. A univariate analysis displayed a significant positive correlation between IGF-1 SDS and UA (P=0.004). In multivariate piecewise linear regression, the levels of IGF-1 SDS increased with the elevation of UA when UA was between 168 μmol/L and 301 μmol/L (β 0.010, 95% CI 0.004–0.017; P=0.002). The levels of IGF-1 SDS decreased with the elevation of UA when UA was either less than 168 μmol/L (β  −0.055, 95% CI −0.081–−0.028; P<0.001) or more than 301 μmol/L (β  −0.005, 95% CI −0.013–0.002; P=0.174). Conclusions. This study demonstrated a nonlinear relationship between IGF-1 and UA levels in Chinese children and adolescents with ISS. This finding suggests that either high or low levels of UA may have an adverse effect on IGF-1, whereas appropriate UA levels have a beneficial effect. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background. Approximately 10%–20% of patients with Kawasaki disease (KD) are nonresponsive to intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) treatment, placing them at higher risk of developing coronary heart lesions. Early detection of nonresponsiveness is crucial to curtail this risk; however, the applicability of existing predictive scoring systems is limited to the Japanese population. Our study aimed to identify a predictive scoring system for IVIG resistance in KD specific to the Chinese population. We aimed to assess the utility of three commonly used risk-scoring systems in predicting IVIG resistance and compare them to the newly developed predictive scoring system. Methods. A total of 895 patients with KD were enrolled in this retrospective review and divided into two groups: IVIG responders and nonresponders. Clinical and laboratory variables were compared between the two groups. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to construct a new scoring system. The utility of the existing and new scoring systems was assessed and compared using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve. Results. Albumin levels, percentage of neutrophils, and hemoglobin were independent predictors of resistance by logistic regression analysis. The new predictive scoring system was derived with improved sensitivity (60.5%) and specificity (87.8%). The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.818. Conclusion. This study developed a novel risk-scoring system for predicting resistance to IVIG treatment in KD specific to the Chinese population. Kinase is one of the most productive classes of established targets, but the majority of approved drugs against kinase were developed only for cancer. Intensive efforts were therefore exerted for releasing its therapeutic potential by discovering new therapeutic area. Kinases in clinical trial could provide great opportunities for treating various diseases. However, no systematic comparison between system profiles of established targets and those of clinical trial ones was conducted. The reveal of probable difference or shift of trend would help to identify key factors defining druggability of established targets. In this study, a comparative analysis of system profiles of both types of targets was conducted. Consequently, the systems profiles of the majority of clinical trial kinases were identified to be very similar to those of established ones, but percentages of established targets obeying the system profiles appeared to be slightly but consistently higher than those of clinical trial targets. Moreover, a shift of trend in the system profiles from the clinical trial to the established targets was identified, and popular kinase targets were discovered. In sum, this comparative study may help to facilitate the identification of the druggability of established drug targets by their system profiles and drug-target interaction networks. The aim of this study was to estimate the dynamics of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) prevalence and management rates based on a rural cohort study in Henan Province of China. The rural prospective study was conducted for 20194 Chinese population ≥18 years in 2007-2008 and followed during 2013-2014. A total of 14009 individuals were recruited for the prospective analysis ultimately. Over 5.74 years of follow-up, the age-standardized prevalence, awareness, treatment, and control of T2DM increased from 6.18%, 44.41%, 34.39%, and 19.08% at baseline to 7.87%, 59.64%, 52.17%, and 26.52% at follow-up in total population, respectively. Similar changes were found in men and women except the age-standardized control in men. The four parameters of T2DM were higher among various factors at follow-up than those at baseline. There was no statistical difference in awareness (P=0.089) and treatment (P=0.257) in the newly diagnosed T2DM compared with the rates at baseline. The current study indicated that the prevalence, awareness, treatment, and control of T2DM displayed chronological increasing trends while the awareness, treatment, and control of T2DM were still disproportionally low in central China. An 8-week feeding trial was performed to evaluate the effects of dietary β-hydroxy-β-methylbutyrate (HMB) supplementation on growth performance and muscle quality of kuruma shrimp (Marsupenaeus japonicas) (initial weight: 2.00 ± 0.01 g) fed a low protein diet. The positive control diet (HP) with 490 g/kg protein and negative control diet (LP) with 440 g/kg protein were formulated. Based on the LP, 0.25, 0.5, 1, 2 and 4 g/kg β-hydroxy-β-methylbutyrate calcium were supplemented to design the other five diets named as HMB0.25, HMB0.5, HMB1, HMB2 and HMB4, respectively. Results showed that compared with the shrimp fed LP, the HP, HMB1 and HMB2 groups had significantly higher weight gain and specific growth rate, while significantly lower feed conversion ratio (p < 0.05). Meanwhile, intestinal trypsin activity was significantly elevated in the above three groups than that of the LP group. Higher dietary protein level and HMB inclusion upregulated the expressions of target of rapamycin, ribosomal protein S6 kinase, phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase, and serine/threonine-protein kinase in shrimp muscle, accompanied by the increases in most muscle free amino acids contents. Supplementation of 2 g/kg HMB in a low protein diet improved muscle hardness and water holding capacity of shrimp. Total collagen content in shrimp muscle increased with increasing dietary HMB inclusion. Additionally, dietary inclusion of 2 g/kg HMB significantly elevated myofiber density and sarcomere length, while reduced myofiber diameter. In conclusion, supplementation of 1-2 g/kg HMB in a low protein diet improved the growth performance and muscle quality of kuruma shrimp, which may be ascribed to the increased trypsin activity and activated TOR pathway, as well as elevated muscle collagen content and changed myofiber morphology caused by dietary HMB. TP53 is a well-known tumor suppressor gene and one of the most common genetic alterations in human cancers. However, the role of p53 as a prognostic marker of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is controversial in the association between TP53 alterations and clinical outcomes. To address this issue, we evaluated TP53 mutations, p53 protein expression, clinicopathological parameters, and survivals rates in a large scale of patients with ESCC. Two cohorts were included in this study: TP53 mutations were detected by next-generation sequencing in 316 ESCC patients, and p53 protein expression was tested by immunohistochemistry in 6,028 ESCC patients. Survival analysis was performed using the Kaplan–Meier curve and the Cox proportional hazards model. TP53 mutations were found in ESCC patients from 241 of 316 (76.3%), and the rate of positive expression of p53 protein was 59.1% in 6,028 ESCC patients (including 1819 with high expression of p53 protein), respectively. Most mutations were missense, which has a high expression of p53 protein. Compared with wild-typeTP53, TP53 gene mutations were not significantly associated with survival time (p = 0.083). In multivariate analysis, the p53 protein expression was an independent prognostic factor for ESCC. The high-expression group of p53 protein has poor survival (p < 0.001) compared to low-expression group in patients with ESCC. The high expression of the p53 protein, not the TP53 mutation, is predictive of poor survival in patients with ESCC, and p53 protein expression might have the potential to be a prognosis biomarker and therapy target in ESCC. To investigate the key genes affecting ovarian development in the ridgetail white prawn, Exopalaemon carinicauda, we cloned the full‐length cDNA of the CDK9 gene and discussed its role in ovarian development. Our results show that the gene has an open reading frame of 1155 bp, encoded 383 amino acids, and it has a conserved cyclin binding motif S_TKc. The open reading frame of CDK9 was expressed as a 43.96 Kda molecular weight protein. The phylogenetic tree analysis showed that the CDK9 gene has the highest homology with the CDK9 genes of Penaeus vannamei and Penaeus japonicus. The results of qRT‐PCR show that the CDK9 gene was also expressed in the eye stalk, stomach, heart, gill, intestine, muscle, ovary, hepatopancreas and ventral cord. The expression level was highest in the ovary, which was significantly different from the other tissues (p < 0.05). In the five stages of ovarian development, the expression level of the CDK9 gene was highest in stage I, which was significantly different from the other stages (p < 0.05). In situ hybridization tests showed strong expression signals in the membrane, cytoplasm and nucleus of oocytes and previtellogenic oocytes. Nevertheless, following the proliferation of oocytes, the expression signals became much stronger in the oocyte membrane and in the whole follicular cells located in the interstitial space. The RNA interference results show that the expression of the CDK9 gene significantly affects the expression of the Vg and VgR genes. Background. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a type of covalently closed loop structure of endogenous RNAs. Recent studies have shown that circular RNAs may play an important role in human cancer. However, there is limited information on the function of circRNA in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Methods. Hsa_circ_001242 expression levels in 40 paired OSCC tissues and four OSCC cell lines were selected using real-time quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to evaluate the diagnostic value of hsa_circ_001242 in OSCC. Results. Hsa_circ_001242 was significantly downregulated in OSCC tissues compared to paired adjacent normal tissues (P<0.001). Hsa_circ_001242 expression levels were significantly downregulated in four OSCC cell lines (SCC-9, SCC-15, SCC25, and CAL-27) than in human normal oral keratinocyte (HOK) cell lines. Moreover, the expression level of hsa_circ_001242 was negatively correlated with tumor size and T stage (P<0.05). The area under the ROC curve was 0.784. Conclusion. This study showed that hsa_circ_001242 was significantly downregulated in OSCC and may act as a potential novel biomarker for the diagnosis and treatment of OSCC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
