The leakage neutron spectrum measurements have been done on benchmark spherical assembly-nickel sphere with a diameter of 50 cm and a copper cube (block) with dimensions of 49.5 x 49.5 x 48 cm3 in Research Centre Rez (RC Rez). The 252Cf neutron source was placed into the centre of nickel sphere and copper cube. The proton recoil method was used for the neutron spectrum measurement using spherical hydrogen proportional detectors (HPD) with pressure of 400 and 1000 kPa (diameter of detectors is 4 cm) and scintillation stilbene (ST) detector (diam. of 1 x 1 cm). The neutron energy range of spectrometer is from 0.04 MeV to 1.3 MeV for HPD and from 1 MeV to 12 MeV for ST. The adequate MCNP neutron spectrum calculations based on data libraries ENDF/B-VII.1, ENDF/B-VIII.0, JEFF-3.3, BROND-3.1 were done and compared with the experiment, i.e., calculation to experiment ratio C/E was determined. The High Energy cosmic-Radiation Detection facility (HERD) is a calorimetric experiment planned to be launched in 2027. It will be operational for at least 10 years on board the China Space Station. With HERD we will measure the energy flux of cosmic protons and heavier nuclei from 30 GeV up to, for the first time in space, a few PeV. We will search for signatures of annihilation and decay products of dark matter in the energy spectrum of cosmic electrons and gamma rays from 10 GeV to 100 TeV. A wide field of view monitoring of the gamma-ray full-sky from 100 MeV will also be performed. The five HERD subdetectors, the calorimeter (CALO), the scintillating fiber tracker (FIT), the plastic scintillator detector (PSD), the silicon charge detector (SCD) and the transition radiation detector (TRD), are currently under development. We report on the first results of a unique in-situ experimental cross-calibration effort of the surface detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory and of the Telescope Array experiment (Auger@TA). In the first phase of Auger@TA, we performed surface detector station-to-station comparisons for a collection of extensive air showers landing near the experimental setup and detected by Telescope Array. Beyond the deduced cross-calibration curve between the Water-Cherenkov-based Auger and Scintillator-based TA Surface Detector stations, we also investigate the consistency of their response for individual reconstructed showers. The dataset is currently too small to draw firm conclusions as-of-yet. Hence, phase I data taking will continue even as we gear up for the deployment of an Auger micro-array within Telescope Array as part of Phase II of this work. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A novel detector has been used, in order to perform measurements of spontaneous fission to α-decay ratios for 240Pu, 242Pu and 252Cf isotopes. The detectors are based on the well-known technique of liquid scintillating counting. The principle and advantages of the use of such detectors in nuclear physics is discussed. The application to the characterization of spontaneous fission is described and it is demonstrated that highly precise measurements are possible, and that the main limit is due to the isotopic content knowledge of the measured samples. The helium-3 world crisis requires a development of new methods of neutron detection to replace commonly used 3He proportional counters. In the past decades, great effort was made to developed efficient and fast scintillators to detect radiation. The inorganic scintillator may be an alternative. Inorganic scintillators with much higher density should be selected for optimal neutron detection efficiency taking into consideration the relevant reactions leading to light emission. These detectors should, then, be carefully characterized both experimentally and by means of advanced simulation code. Ideally, the detector should have the capability to separate neutron and gamma induced events either by amplitude or through pulse shape differences. As neutron sources also generate gamma radiation, which can interfere with the measurement, it is necessary that the detector be able to discriminate the presence of such radiation. Considerable progress has been achieved to develop new inorganic scintillators, in particular increasing the light output and decreasing the decay time by optimized doping. Crystals may be found to suit neutron detection. In this report, we will present the results of the study of lead doped cesium iodide crystals (CsI:Pb) grown in our laboratory, using the vertical Bridgman technique. The concentration of the lead doping element (Pb) was studied in the range 5х10-4 M to 10-2 M . The crystals grown were subjected to annealing (heat treatment). In this procedure, vacuum of 10-6 mbar and continuous temperature of 350°C, for 24 hours, were employed. In response to neutron radiation, an AmBe source with energy range of 1 MeV to 12 MeV was used. The activity of the AmBe source was 1Ci Am. The fluency was 2.6 х 106 neutrons/second. The operating voltage of the photomultiplier tube was 1700 V; the accumulation time in the counting process was 600 s and 1800 s. For efficient beta detection in a mixed beta gamma field, Monte Carlo simulation models have been built to optimize the thickness of a plastic scintillator, used in a whole body monitor. The simulation has been performed using the MCNP/X code for different thicknesses of plastic scintillator from 150 μm to 600μm. The relationship between the thickness of the scintillator and the efficiency of the detector has been analyzed. For 150 μm thickness, an experimental investigation has been conducted with different beta sources at different positions on the scintillator and the counting efficiency of the unit has been measured. Evaluated data along with experimental ones have been discussed. A thickness of 300 μm to 500 μm has been found to be the optimum thickness for high efficiency beta detection in the presence of low energy gamma-rays. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Digital Light Processing (DLP) 3D printing technique can be a powerful tool to fabricate plastic scintillator with a geometrically desired shape in innovatively fast time. Plastic scintillator with the size of 30 mm × 30 mm × 10 mm was fabricated by using the plastic resin and the DLP 3D printer (ASIGA, Pico2HD). The characteristics of decay time, energy resolution, intrinsic detection efficiency were analyzed and compared between the fabricated 3D printing plastic scintillator and a commercial plastic scintillator BC408 (Saint-Gobain Crystal). Decay time profile of the tested plastic scintillators was measured for 137Cs Compton maximum electron 477 keV by using a modified time correlated single photon counting (TCSPC) setup. The time profile was fitted by reconvolution function, and each decay time component and contribution was analyzed. For energy resolution of plastic scintillator, the Gaussian spectrum for 137Cs Compton maximum electron 477 keV was selectively measured by using the γ-γ coincidence experimental setup. As a result, it was confirmed that the 3D printing plastic scintillator showed average decay time 15.6 ns and energy resolution 15.4%. These characteristics demonstrates the feasibility of 3D printing plastic scintillator as a radiation detector. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The results on the cross-section of dp-elastic scattering reaction obtained at 880 MeV at internal target of Nuclotron are presented. The measurements have been performed using CH2 and C targets and kinematic coincidence of signals from scintillation counters.
