The strong spin–orbit coupling (SOC) in lead halide perovskites, when inversion symmetry is lifted, has provided opportunities for investigating the Rashba effect in these systems. Moreover, the strong orbital moment, which, in turn, impacts the spin-pair in singlet and triplet electronic states, plays a significant role in enhancing the optoelectronic properties in the presence of external magnetic fields in lead halide perovskites. Here, we investigate the effect of weak magnetic fields (<1 T) on the photoluminescence (PL) properties of CsPbBr 3 nanocrystals with and without Ruddlesden–Popper (RP) faults and single crystals of CH 3 NH 3 PbBr 3. Along with an enhancement in the PL intensity as a function of an external magnetic field, which is observed in both lead bromide perovskites, the PL emission red-shifts in CsPbBr 3 nanocrystals. Density-functional theory calculations of the electronic band-edge in CsPbBr 3 show almost no change in the energy gap as a function of the external magnetic field. The experimental results, thus, suggest the role of mixing of the triplet and singlet excitonic states under weak magnetic fields. This is further deduced from an enhancement in PL lifetimes as a function of the field in CsPbBr 3. In CH 3 NH 3 PbBr 3 , an increase in PL intensity is observed under weak magnetic fields; however, no changes in the peak energy or PL lifetimes are observed. The internal magnetic fields due to SOC are characterized for all three samples and found to be the highest for CsPbBr 3 nanocrystals with RP faults. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Primary cancers disseminate both single circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and CTC "clusters," the latter of which have been shown to demonstrate greater metastatic propensity and adverse impact on prognosis. Many devices developed to isolate single CTCs also capture CTC clusters, but there is translational potential for a platform specifically designed to isolate CTC clusters. Herein, we introduce our microfluidic device for isolating CTC clusters ("Microfluidic Isolation of CTC Clusters" or MICC), which is equipped with ∼10 000 trap chambers that isolate tumor cell clusters based on their large sizes and dynamic force balance against a pillar obstacle in the trap chamber. Whole blood is injected, followed by a wash step to remove blood cells and a final backflush to release intact clusters for downstream analysis. Using clusters from tumor cell-line and confocal microscopy, we verified the ability of the MICC platform to specifically capture tumor cell clusters in the trap chambers. Our flow rate optimization experiments identified 25 μl/min for blood injection, 100 μl/min as wash flow rate, and 300 μl/min as the release flow rate – indicating that 1 ml of whole blood can be processed in less than an hour. Under these optimal flow conditions, we assessed the MICC platform's capture and release performance using blood samples spiked with different concentrations of clusters, revealing a capture efficiency of 66%–87% and release efficiency of 76%–90%. The results from our study suggest that the MICC platform has the potential to isolate CTC clusters from cancer patient blood, enabling it for clinical applications in cancer management. Transparent dual-gate (DG) InGaZnO4 thin film transistors for OR logic operation were fabricated on a glass substrate. A 100-nm-thick SiO2 layer used as both top and bottom gate dielectrics was deposited by plasma enhance chemical vapor deposition at 200 °C. Compared to bottom gate, top gate thin film transistors (TFTs) exhibited better device performance with higher saturation mobility, drain current on-to-off ratio, lower threshold voltage, and subthreshold gate-voltage swing. This improved performance was mainly attributed to low process-induced damage or low parasitic capacitance between gate and source/drain and low parasitic resistance between channel and source/drain in top-contact TFT configuration (coplanar type). DG-mode TFTs showed saturation mobility of ∼16.9 cm2 V-1 s-1, drain current on-to-off ratio of ∼1×106, subthreshold gate-voltage swing of ∼0.33 V decade-1, and threshold voltage of ∼1.25 V. The results demonstrate that DG InGaZnO4 TFTs are effective in improving the device performance because the channel layer is modulated independently by a top or, bottom gate signal and are well suited for OR gate operation. We demonstrate high efficiency white organic light-emitting devices with two adjacent emissive layers each doped with three phosphorescent emitters (blue, green, and red). Efficient charge and exciton confinement is realized by employing charge transport layers with high triplet energy, leading to a maximum external quantum efficiency of (19±1)%. Using the p-i-n device structure, we have achieved a peak power efficiency of (40±2) lm/W and (36±2) lm/W at 100 cd/m2, a color rendering index of 79, and Commission Internationale de L’Eclairage coordinates of (0.37, 0.40) for the white light emission. We have demonstrated a substantial enhancement in the efficiency of iridium (III) bis[(4,6-di-fluorophenyl)-pyridinate-N,C2′]picolinate based blue phosphorescent organic light-emitting devices (PHOLEDs). The efficiencies of PHOLEDs with conventional electron transport materials are low due to their low electron mobilities as well low triplet energies. High triplet energy electron transporting material with high electron mobility was used as a hole blocker to achieve efficient exciton confinement and good charge balance in the device thereby achieving a high current efficiency of 49 cd/A and an external quantum efficiency of 23%. We report on very high efficiency deep-blue phosphorescent organic light-emitting devices (PHOLEDs) based on iridium(III) bis(4′,6′-difluorophenylpyridinato)tetrakis(1-pyrazolyl)borate (FIr6). Dual emissive layers consisting of an N,N′-dicarbazolyl-3,5-benzene layer doped with 4 wt % FIr6 and a p-bis(triphenylsilyly)benzene layer doped with 25 wt % FIr6 were employed to maximize exciton generation on FIr6 molecules. Combined with the p-i-n device structure, we achieved a low turn-on voltage of 3.2 V and very high power efficiencies of 25±2 lm/W at 100 cd/m2 and 20±2 lm/W at 1000 cd/m2 for such deep-blue PHOLEDs with peak emission at a wavelength of 458 nm. We have demonstrated that the light extraction efficiency of an organic light emitting device is a strong function of device geometry. Specifically, we have found that the ratio of the extracted mode to the substrate-guided mode varies from 22% to 55% depending on the location of the recombination zone. Our simulation results also indicate that more light is trapped in the substrate as the optical length of device increases. We further show that the light intensity profile varies from a Lambertian shape to a non-Lambertian shape depending on the device geometry due to the cavity effect. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
