Abstract

The oxidative electrochemistry of luminescent rhenium (I) complexes of the type Re[(CO).sub.3](LL)Cl and Re[(CO).sub.3](LL)Br (where LL = [alpha]-diimine) is re-examined in acetonitrile, where the compounds have undergone metal-based on-electron oxidations. The disproportionation of these complexes is exampled of a general susceptibility of electrogenerated rhenium (II) tricarbonyl complexes to nucleophilic attack.
