In recent years, with the increase of online learning platforms, obtaining learning behavior data from students, are becoming easy. However, analyzing the data to extract meaningful information remains challenging due to the data volume and complexity. Here, we apply Self-organizing Maps (SOM) to visualize the learning characteristics of many elementary students over many online assignments in mathematics class. As a case study, this research used the data log of MONSAKUN, a digital learning environment that focuses on exercising arithmetic using story-based questions by using a problem-posing approach with the integration of mathematical sentences. Our primary objective is to give intuitive understanding to the teachers regarding the students' performance that subsequently allows the teachers to generate meaningful advices. Here, SOM generates a two-dimensional map that preserved the topological order of high-dimensional learning characteristics data, in which students with similar learning characteristics are located close to each other, while students with significantly different characteristics are distanced from each other. We are interested especially in locating low-performing students, as they are the most important to be given advice by the teachers. By locating the low-performing students and other students in their vicinity on the map, the teacher may be able to use other students as references for improving the low-performing students' performances. The idea is to mimic the learning characteristics of the students designated as references. Due to the learning characteristics similarity, the low-performing students do not need to make drastic changes in their learning styles. It can be expected that by iterating this process over many assignments, the students' performances will gradually be improved. In this paper, we utilized a digital learning platform MONSAKUN, for learning arithmetic used in Japan. Indonesia, rich in culture, is the right source for developing studies on ethnomathematics to eliminate the assumption that mathematics is difficult to learn. This research aims to explore forms of ethnomathematics through e-comics developed based on the merdeka curriculum. This research is qualitative, using qualitative descriptive methods. Data collection techniques through interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis techniques through source triangulation. The results of this study were forms of ethnomathematics found in e-comic, namely the Lawang sewu building, Batik Semarang, and warak ngendog, which were integrated to teach mathematics about flat figures for phase B students. In addition, E-comic can also be used to introduce students to Semarang culture through mathematics so that students are interested in studying mathematics and can strengthen students' numeracy literacy. Indonesia is recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, which has hit the world for two years. The impact of COVID-19, which requires long school closures and the transfer of learning, has an effect on education, especially for students because they experience learning loss due to learning that is not optimal. This pilot study aims to analyse the feasibility or usability of learning videos in overcoming learning loss. This type of research is in the early stage of development research. A quantitative descriptive approach was used to investigate the usefulness of instructional videos to overcome learning loss. The students involved in the usability test were 17 grade VIII students in one of the junior high schools in Banda Aceh. The instrument used in this study was a questionnaire. Based on the student assessment results, it was found that 14 students gave useful responses with very good criteria, 1 student answered with good criteria, and the rest gave sufficient criteria. Learning with a contextual approach is carried out by paying attention to students' abilities, learning support tools, situations and conditions and achieving the learning objectives. This study aims to discover how the mathematics learning process with a contextual approach in online learning provides innovation to the phenomena and learning outcomes. The contextual approach will make it easier for students to connect the material presented with their insights about real problems in everyday life. In the COVID-19 pandemic situation, learning is carried out online so that teachers and students must be able to determine and choose an appropriate approach to the mathematics learning material. The methodology in this research is descriptive and qualitative. The subjects of this study were seventh-grade students in a private junior high school in Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia. The results showed that the formation of students' learning motivation and activities was due to finding and solving mathematical problems by relating them to situations and conditions of daily life. The process of learning mathematics with a contextual approach makes it easier for students to understand mathematical concepts. The average value of learning outcomes for each first meeting is 72.332%, the second meeting is 86.16%, and the third meeting is 76.16%. Learning mathematics with a contextual approach during the pandemic-19 provides innovations for students and teachers. So that it can increase student learning motivation and student activity because they find problems and solve math problems related to everyday life. Education Curriculum in Indonesia meets the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and the 21st century challenges. The implementation, however, faced many problems such as lack of innovation in teaching and learning to equipped students with new era skills. Several studies have stated that the STEM approach can be an alternative solution to this problem. The STEM implementation approach is strongly influenced by teachers' abilities and teachers' perception. It is necessary therefore to identify teachers' perceptions on STEM implementation. This study aims to describe the perception of mathematics teachers in one sub-district in Lampung about STEM approach. This is a qualitative descriptive study involving 38 mathematics teachers in junior high school. The data was collected using an online questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results showed that the mathematics teachers in one sub-district in Lampung have a good knowledge about STEM approach in learning mathematics as can be seen from the number of percentages which show that the majority of mathematics teachers in this area know and familiar with STEM. However, this is still limited to teachers who teach in a good-accredited schools (A and B). The perceptions of the teachers on STEM is also positive for both teachers who teach in a good quality schools (accredited A and B) and in nearly good schools (accredited C) even although they believed many obstacles to implement it. The results implies that it is necessary to motivate mathematics teachers to be able to implement the STEM approach through seminars or training on STEM and its implementation. Online learning media becomes very important in this era since the Covid-19 pandemic. However, web-based mathematics learning must be developed in such a way as to increase independence and motivation because in the Pandemic-19 period students are required to have independence and learning motivation in improving their learning understanding. This study aimed to investigate whether using a free-web developer such as WordPress may benefit students in learning social arithmetic. Following the ADDIE model during the web development, a number of 22-year 7th students in Banguntapan, Indonesia involved in the Evaluation phase for measuring the practicality and effectiveness aspects. For the validity aspect, two experts were invited to score the developed media. In particular, the material presented is complete with learning videos that are easily understood by students, equipped with quizzes and assignments that students can do themselves. According to Programme for International Student Assesment (PISA) 2012, Indonesia obtained an average of mathematics score that was far below the average mathematics score of OECD countries. The aim of this study investigating the relationship between instrumental motivation, self efficacy, mathematics work ethic, teacher morale, and the ability of teacher to classify student on mathematics achievement. The dataset in the study was analyzed using a multilevel model because the data contained a hierarchical structure (student and school levels). The results of the analysis showed that the variables of self-efficacy, instrumental motivation, math work ethic, and teacher morale were statistically significant predictors of students' mathematical achievement. Meanwhile, the teacher's ability to group students showed insignificant results. The low accuracy of the results of this analysis of course requires further discussion and discussion of significant variables or vice versa, so the urgency of the research is expected to be able to investigate and determine the relationship between variables that affect mathematical achievement. One of the skills that students must possess in the twenty-first century is solving problems. Students' strong perseverance and openness to problem-solving can improve mathematics learning achievement. However, only a few studies in developing countries have examined this topic. This aim study examines the relationship between openness and perseverance to problem-solving on mathematics learning achievement in Indonesia. This study uses multilevel modeling from the 2012 PISA dataset to explore the variables that affect students' mathematical performance. The results obtained with the help of the stratified model are that openness and persistence to problem-solving are statistically significant predictors for the success of learning mathematics. Islamic financial literacy (IFL) becomes important knowledge for students along with the involvement of Islamic boarding schools to encourage sharia economic growth in Indonesia. The integration of IFL in mathematics education, especially for Islamic boarding schools, is expected to support Islamic finance education and helping the students' mathematics understanding through context. The integration of IFL into Mathematics instruction is rare. The obstacle is the lack of suitable examples of tasks that mathematics teachers can use, even on social arithmetic topics directly related to financial problems. To explore the potential of mathematical tasks in supporting students' IFL, we developed a series of mathematical tasks based on 4 content areas of the mathematics-based Islamic financial literacy (MIFL) framework we had compiled. In this study, we present 1 task for each content area. The expert review process and testing of six students are carried out to get constructive feedback to produce a valid assignment. Through student work and questionnaires, we describe the potential effect of the tasks in supporting students' understanding of mathematics and Islamic financial literacy. It is hoped that this study provides general guidance to the teacher, especially in Islamic School, to design the financial mathematics tasks for promoting students' IFL. Mathematical literacy or numeracy, a term used by the Ministry of Education in Indonesia, is an individual's capacity to reason mathematically, and formulate, apply and interpret mathematics to solve various problems in real-life contexts. This study combines questionnaires and unstructured interviews to explore the learning practices of mathematics teachers in Palembang from a numeracy perspective. The results of this study indicate that, in general, participating teachers are still determining whether their learning practices have strengthened students' numeracy competencies. In addition, based on the results of interviews, teachers also need help understanding the definitions and concepts of learning mathematics that strengthen students' numeracy competence. This can be due to teachers' need for more familiarity with compiling contextual learning activities in problem-solving, which encourages students to think. In conclusion, the practice of learning mathematics in Palembang can be improved through collaboration between teachers, schools, and external parties to develop learning activities that strengthen students' numeracy competencies. This study aims to determine differences in mathematics achievement based on status and region in junior high schools in the Province of the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. This study uses a quantitative approach. The study involved 558 junior high schools. This study uses secondary data based on the Regional Education Assessment for Mathematics results in 2021. The analysis technique uses a two-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The analysis shows that public school mathematics achievement is better than private schools, and Mathematics achievement in urban schools is better than in schools located in the suburbs. Mathematical literacy is still an interesting issue discussed in mathematics education in Indonesia. Learning through an ethnomathematical approach can answer the challenges of mathematical literacy in the context of the local culture. Kutai Kartanegara Regency, which is the majority of the Kutai tribe, can be investigated how the mathematical literacy ability of the math teacher through the activity of designing mathematical literacy questions in order to develop ethnomathematical-based learning. The population in this study were literacy scores and designing scores from junior high school mathematics teachers in Kutai Kartanegara Regency. The sample of this research were literacy scores and designing scores from 28 teachers who are research subjects. This study aims to obtain the models that describes the teacher's assessment score both literacy and designing scores when viewed from the ethnic and gender variables. The data analysis used were analysis of variance (anova) models for each assessment score. Each assessment score data was fitted into anova models such as 1-way anova, 2-way anova without interaction, and 2-way anova with interaction. The best anova model was selected based on the smallest AICc. Based on the results of the research that the best model for literacy score data was 1-way anova model when gender as the independent variable. AICc value for this model was 205.40 with a weight of 80%. The female teachers have higher literacy scores than the male teachers. Meanwhile, the best anova model for designing score data was 2-way anova with interaction where the AICc value and AICc weight were 200.04 and 52%, respectively. Designing scores were influenced by ethnic variables and their combinations with gender. Teachers with the Kutai ethnicity have higher scores than teachers of other ethnicities. COVID-19 pandemic requires professional teachers to use digital technology, but some students experience obstacles in technology so that it has an impact on their low critical thinking abilities. This paper aims to analyze mathematical critical thinking abilities between students who carry out learning models eliciting activities assisted by Edmodo and conventionally assisted by WhatsApp based on prior knowledge of mathematics. The research method used a quasi-experimental, non-equivalent pretest-posttest control group design. The sample was selected through a homogeneity test from 4 parallel classes of one junior high school in Bandung Indonesia, two classes were selected, namely class VIII A as the experimental class and VIII D as the control class. The instrument uses an initial mathematical ability test and critical thinking abilities. Data analysis uses: Two-way ANOVA test. Findings: There is a difference in the improvement of mathematical critical thinking abilities between experimental class and control class students. There are differences in the achievement of mathematical critical thinking abilities based on prior knowledge of mathematics in the smart, medium and weak categories. Learning models eliciting activities assisted by Edmodo can facilitate the process of construction, interaction and reflection so as to improve students' critical thinking abilities. Mathematical literacy is essential to help someone understand the use of mathematics in everyday life and use it in decision-making to solve a problem. However, the results of PISA 2018 state that Indonesia has low literacy and has not experienced development for the last 10-15 years. This study aimed to analyze mathematical literacy with students with low initial abilities in the material of speed, distance, and time. This study used the descriptive qualitative method. The subject of this study was one student who was selected with a low midterm exam score using a purposive sampling technique, namely class V-A SDN Menanggal 601 Surabaya. Data collection methods used are mathematical literacy tests, interviews, and documentation that mathematics lecturers have validated. The results of this study indicate that the mathematical literacy of students with low initial ability can: 1) formulate real problems but they are incomplete because they do not write completely, do not use mathematics by applying an explicit mathematical model; 2) do not write down the formula, 3) correctly represent the solution that will be used directly. Egrang is one of the traditional games in Indonesia which is known in various regions with the same or different names. As part of a culture, traditional games contain a variety of knowledge that can be implemented in school learning. Generally, the implementation is done for one subject only. This study aims to explore egrang, identify ethnomathematics and ethnosports contained in it, and implement ethnomathematics and ethnosport in elementary school thematic learning. Research respondents are cultural figures in Banyuwangi and Surabaya, teachers, and third-grade students in an elementary school in Banyuwangi. The research uses ethnographic-based qualitative methods. Data were collected by observation, interviews, questionnaires, and tests. Data analysis was carried out qualitatively and quantitatively. The results showed that there were ethnomathematics and ethnosport in egrang. The sorting of ethnomathematics and ethnosports that is implemented in learning shows that learning in elementary school grade 3 with thematic concepts provides an average value learning implementation of 4.37 which includes high criteria, and the value of completion of exercise is 87 which includes high criteria. Research on teacher professional development has recently focused on teacher knowledge for teaching, specifically in mathematics; knowledge for teaching mathematics is called Mathematical Knowledge for Teaching (MKT). One approach to assessing teachers' MKT is through teaching practice. This study investigates the nature of the teacher's MKT in teaching permutation and combination. This qualitative research uses a descriptive narrative approach involving two teachers participating in teacher professional development activities at one of the organizing universities in Indonesia. The data were obtained from the document of teachers' learning tools and video teaching practice when teaching permutation and combination. The teaching practice of teachers was analysed using the MKT framework. The results showed that the teacher's Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) was suitable but not yet supported by Subject Matter Knowledge (SMK). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: Indonesia's have many island, cause ethnic and cultural diversity. One of the existing cultures is batik. The diversity of cultures, causes batik to have various types and motifs. Mathematics is a very important subject because it can improve the ability to think logically, systematically, analytically, critically, creatively, and can shape one's tenacity, personality and character. However, the abstract characteristics of mathematics make students have difficulty in understanding mathematics. Ethnomathematics is a science, wherever the focus is on the relationship between mathematics and culture. Through this knowledge, it can be studied the mathematical aspects contained of batik activities, especially on batik motifs. Therefore, this study aims to determine the mathematical aspects according to Bishop contained in batik activities and to determine the concept of transformation geometry contained in batik motifs. Methodology: This research is a qualitative research with an ethnographic approach. The method of data collection is done with observation, interviews, and documentation. Observations were made on the batik industry in Kampung Batik Laweyan Surakarta. Interviews were conducted with batik industry owners and batik craftsmen. Results: The results showed that the mathematical aspects according to Bishop contained in batik activities were counting, measuring, and designing. In existing batik motifs, the concept of transformation geometry can be found, namely translation, reflection, rotation, and dilation. Applications/Originality/Value: The mathematical aspects found in batik activities can be used in learning mathematics, namely in grades 7, 8, 9 of junior high school and grade 11 of high school. The low ability of teachers to create a media is the main factor that causes the low achievement of learning in Indonesia, especially in mathematics. The purpose of this research is as an initial study of collecting information in the context of needs analysis to design a draft web-based Mathematics learning media. Needs analysis is carried out through literature studies and field studies. A literature study was conducted on the 2013 Revised Curriculum for senior high school grade 12. There were four concepts that will be developed in the learning media, namely the Three Dimensional Geometry, Statistics, Counting Rules, and Probability. From the results of the analysis, interactive media are needed that can instill strong concepts so that students easily understand the material well. The results of the analysis of the needs of teachers and students show that multimedia is indeed needed in the mathematics learning process and 88.37% of students stated that they were interested and wanted to use web-based interactive multimedia in the learning process, thus the development of web-based multimedia does need to be developed. Minimum Competency Assessment, which measures students' numeracy in Indonesia, has been implemented in the pandemic era when learning is forced to shift from offline to online. However, little research on online mathematics learning discusses the students' experience while students play a significant role in learning. This qualitative descriptive research explores the gap between the distance learning conducted by teachers and how students experience learning regarding numeracy. Through a survey of 264 students, an interview with two mathematics teachers, class observations, and a numeracy test, this research found that students perceived that online mathematics learning does not accommodate their needs for further discussions and detailed explanations. Concerning numeracy, the lack of context in learning activities might cause students difficulty processing information in a passage. The results suggest collaborative learning employing real-life context and digital technology to develop students' conceptual understanding, which is the foundation of numeracy skills.
