The use of household waste-derived materials for wastewater treatment has double environmental benefit due to the availability of simultaneous disposal of household waste and wastewater. In this work, we report the facile production of phosphorus-rich carbon from waste paper as a potential adsorbent for the disposal of uranium (VI)-containing nuclear wastewater. A simple phosphoric acid activation-carbonization strategy is developed to effectively transform waste paper into carbon. The phosphorus content of the obtained carbon reaches 8.55 at% and large pores with sizes ranging from 2 to 100 nm are observed. Batch and column adsorption experiments verify that waste paper-derived carbon can efficiently adsorb uranium (VI) from aqueous solution under weakly acidic conditions. The maximum amount of uranium adsorption on the carbon attains 492 mg g−1 at pH 4.6, and adsorption of uranium (VI) on the carbon quickly reaches the equilibrium within 20 minutes. The distribution coefficient of uranium (VI) on waste paper-derived carbon is as high as 128 L g−1. The carbon can be reused for five times with uranium (VI) adsorption efficiencies above 89% and can be used for dynamic adsorption of uranium (VI) in a fix-bed column. Kinetics, thermodynamics and DFT calculations reveal a surface complexation mechanism between uranium (VI) ion and ionized phosphoric acid group. Moreover, to avoid the generation of secondary polluted water during the treatment of uranium-containing nuclear wastewater, a water-saving method is developed for the adsorption preparation and a water-free combustion method is employed for the disposal of uranium-containing spent adsorbent instead of recycling. The terrible shuttling of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) is a major obstacle for commercializing lithium–sulfur (Li–S) batteries as high‐performance energy storage systems. In this study, a carbon‐based interlayer with effective suppression capability on the shuttle effect is developed by simply coating a well‐dispersed mixture of soybean protein isolate/MXene onto the acidified carbon paper (ACP). The resultant composite interlayer (SM@ACP) is able to synergistically diminish the shuttle effect through chemical adsorption and physical blocking. Meanwhile, this interlayer displays excellent conductivity and facilitates the diffusion of Li ions due to the composite coating to promote both electron/ion conduction as well as the porous structure of ACP. Benefiting from the unique properties of the composite interlayer, the as‐assembled Li–S batteries with SM@ACP interlayers show a great improvement in the cycling stability and rate performance, delivering a very low‐capacity decay rate of 0.071% per cycle at 0.5 C even after 800 cycles. Long-term excessive uptake of fluoride through potable water will cause adverse effects on human health. Therefore, it is of great significance to detect and remove excessive fluoride in potable water. Here, we reported a multi-functional Zr-based coordination polymer namely CP-1, which could realize the visual detection and effectively selective adsorption of fluoride. The investigation of fluoride adsorption manifested that the maximum fluoride adsorption capacity of CP-1 could reach 48.78 mg g−1 and selective adsorption capacity kept stable in a wide range of pH. By fluorometric approaches, the detection of limit of F− could achieve 1.55 × 10–6 mol L−1 based on CP-1. In this study, paper coated with a polyamide film containing a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) of benzalkonium chloride (BKC) is prepared. Its BKC adsorption ability and selectivity for BKC adsorption are investigated. The MIP is prepared by agitating an ethylenediamine solution containing an azo initiator, BKC as a template material, and methacrylic acid (MAA) as the functional monomer. First, filter paper soaked in this mixture is impregnated with a cyclohexane solution of terephthaloyl chloride and a BKC–MAA–MIP‐containing polyamide film is prepared on the surface of the paper. Paper containing BKC–MAA–MIP adsorbs BKC. The paper with the highest BKC removal efficiency is prepared under the following conditions: 4 mL MAA functional monomer, 2.5 w/v% ethylenediamine, and 10 min MIP synthesis time. The paper with BKC–MAA–MIP selectively adsorbs BKC from a solution containing BKC, tetracycline hydrochloride, and caffeine. Developing highly efficient adsorbents for the removal of trace thallium(I) (Tl+) is crucial for addressing environmental challenges. In this study, we successfully synthesized cubic Prussian blue (PB) loading on filter papers using an intermediate layer (dopamine/polyethyleneimine) via in-situ methods. The as-prepared PB-modified FP demonstrated outstanding anti-interference properties and light-enhanced adsorption performance for Tl+ (0.5 mg/L) under ultraviolet (UV) irradiation, exhibiting twice the effectiveness compared to dark conditions, even in acidic and coexisting ionic environments. This indicated its suitability for treating complex Tl+-contaminated water. Notably, the removal efficiency for trace Tl+ was almost 100%, with a maximum experimental adsorption capacity of 86.2 mg/g after 1-h photo-promoted adsorption under 365 nm UV. Characterization results supported a proposed photo-driven redox mechanism that elucidated the interaction between Tl+ and PB-modified FP. Specifically, the accelerated Fe(III) to Fe(II) redox reaction facilitated Tl+ accommodation on the surface and/or lattice of PB, enhancing Tl+ adsorption by compensating for missed positive charges. This study provides valuable insights into utilizing PB-based materials to enhance the photo-enhanced Tl+ adsorption capacity in a cost-effective, easy-to-synthesize, and environmentally friendly manner. Reasonable design of advanced paper-based materials with enhanced degradation capability, switchable adsorption process and excellent operation efficiency for wastewater remediation is desirable but challenging. In this work, by flexibly utilizing oxidative polymerization and self-assembly layer-by-layer strategy, a hierarchical cellulose paper-based material containing rough reactive top layer and photocatalytic bottom layer was successfully fabricated for multitasking wastewater repairing activities. A synergistic mechanism between the modified conjugated polymer and doped Fe was developed, achieving the rapid transfer of electrons through "two-channel" effect, thus sensitizing material. Through the introduction of self-cyclic Fenton system, enhanced photodegradation capability (98.3%) for organic pollutants was realized. The amino-rich polymer was introduced on the composites to develop the multitasking application, which successfully endowed material with the characteristic of high adsorption capacity (167.79 mg·g−1), rapid adsorption rate (50 min) and dynamic-static adjustable adsorption. Benefiting from such peculiarities, effective and low-cost treatment of complex and high toxic industrial wastewater prior to discharge was achieved. The reported material was facile-prepared and demonstrated cost-effective application, operation flexibility and stable regeneration advantages, is promising to achieve real-world applications. The carbonization of lignocellulosic biomass with ionic liquids (ILs) are considered as an advantageous approach for the preparation of carbonaceous materials. The commonly used imidazolium and pyridinium based ILs have drawbacks such as toxicity, resistance to biodegradation, high cost and viscosity. These issues can be mitigated by diluting ILs with water, although excessive water content above 1 wt% can reduce the solubility of biomass. This research aims to investigate the potential of pretreating wastepaper with a "fully green" ILs, amino acid-based IL with high water content, followed by pyrolysis without IL, in enhancing the properties of biochar. For this purpose, the paper was treated with an aqueous solution of IL cysteine nitrate ([Cys][NO 3 ]), and the IL was not involved in the pyrolysis process to prevent the formation of secondary gaseous pollutants. The findings revealed that the hemicellulose and mineral filler in the paper were eliminated during pretreatment, leading to higher carbon content but lower oxygen content. As a result, the biochar exhibited micropores of 0.42 cm3g-1 and a specific surface area of 1011.21 m2 g−1. The biochar demonstrated high adsorption capacities for Cd2+, enrofloxacin, bisphenol A, ciprofloxacin, and tetracycline, with values of 45.20 mg g−1, 49.82 mg g−1, 49.90 mg g−1, 49.88 mg g−1, and 49.65 mg g−1, respectively. The proposed mechanism for the adsorption of enrofloxacin by the biochar primarily involves physical adsorption such as pore filling and electrostatic interactions, along with chemical adsorption facilitated by graphitic nitrogen. This paper investigates the effects of different types of adsorbents on the removal of methylene blue dye. Three adsorbent types that will be utilized in this research are black tea, rice husk, and eggshells. Adsorption is the process of removing a substance called adsorbate in any physical state by adhering to the surface of another material called an adsorbent. In this paper, the adsorbate is a methylene blue dye stock solution with a concentration of 0.030 g L-1. To evaluate the effectiveness of the adsorbents their adsorption capacities and removal efficiencies will be computed using Beer-Lamber Law and the absorbance data obtained from a UV-Vis spectrophotometer as the analytical method. It has been concluded that the most effective adsorbent among the three was rice husk, and the least efficient was eggshell powders. Adsorption cooling and desalination systems have a distinct advantage over other systems that use low‐grade waste heat near ambient temperature. Since improving their performance, including reliability and failure prediction, is challenging, developing an efficient diagnostic system is of great practical significance. The paper introduces artificial intelligence (AI) and an automated machine learning approach (AutoML) in a real‐life application for a computational diagnostic system of existing adsorption cooling and desalination facilities. A total of 1769 simulated data points containing data indicating a failure status are applied to develop a comprehensive AI‐based Diagnostic (AID) system covering a wide range of 42 input parameters. The paper introduces a conditional monitoring system for adsorption cooling and desalination systems. The novelty of the presented study mainly consists of two aspects. First, the intelligent system predicts the health or failure states of various components in a complex three‐bed adsorption chiller installation using the extensive input data sets of 42 different operating parameters. The developed AID expert tool, based on selecting the best from 42 models generated by the DataRobot platform, was validated on the complex, existing three‐bed adsorption chiller. The AID system correctly identified healthy and failure states in various installation components. The developed expert system is very efficient (AUC = 0.988, RMSE = 0.20, LogLoss = 0.14) in predicting emergency states. • Zinc porphyrin-based microporous organic networks (Zn-MONs) was synthesized. • Zn-MONs was used for detection and adsorption for tetracyclines (TCs) firstly. • Zn-MONs with excellent sensing abilities and adsorption for TCs. • Portable paper-based sensors were developed for in-situ detection of TCs. In the present work, a novel zinc-porphyrin-based microporous organic networks (Zn-MONs) were synthesized via facile solvothermal for the detection of tetracyclines (TCs). Zn-MONs, with their well-designed network structure featuring a significant specific surface area and appropriately sized pores, effectively facilitated the enrichment of TCs, resulting in a notable enhancement in sensitivity. Also, in the presence of TCs, Zn-MONs with TCs induced emission of yellow-green fluorescence located at 522 nm due to aggregation. Under the optimal conditions (excitation wavelength of 370 nm, pH = 7.0 in the HEPES-NaOH buffer solution, 0.2 g·L-1 Zn-MONs, and reaction time of 10 min), the Zn-MONs sensing system exhibited good sensitivity with limits of detection (LOD) of 10.6 and 25.8 nmol·L-1 towards tetracycline (TC) and chlortetracycline (CTC), respectively. Moreover, Zn-MONs demonstrated robust selectivity towards TC and CTC, even in the presence of diverse interfering analytes (e.g., ions, antibiotics and proteins). In addition, the good spiked recoveries for TCs detection (96.35 ∼ 99.85 %/0.47 ∼ 2.48 % for TC and 87.20 ∼ 101.11 %/0.53 ∼ 2.70 % for CTC, respectively) indicated the great potential of Zn-MONs in real-world condition (tap water and lake water). Furthermore, the feasibility of test paper embedded with Zn-MONs for sensing TC was explored. The increase in TCs concentration deepened the yellow-green color of test paper. As such, the constructed test paper can semi-quantitatively detect TC and CTC in water samples. Meanwhile, Zn-MONs had good adsorption capacity for TC through monolayer adsorption with the experimental maximum adsorption capacity of 69.62 mg·g−1. Zn-MONs had good reusability toward TC at least five adsorption–desorption consecutive cycles. The outcomes collectively showcase the successful fluorescence detection and removal of TCs using Zn-MONs, highlighting the broader potential of MONs in fluorescent sensor applications. In the last decade, biochar application research has emerged as a hot topic in water treatment studies, which made biochar adsorption one of the primary wastewater treatment strategies. This paper presents a global bibliometric analysis of 2673 publications from the Web of Science database, spanning 2011–2022. For a comprehensive understanding of the research status and trends in biochar adsorption for wastewater treatment, the advanced quantitative and visual analysis tools (i.e., CiteSpace and ArcGIS) were employed. The results showed that China emerged as the leading country with the most published articles. The key research area is on the magnetic adsorption of biochar in wastewater. The articles summarized in the review demonstrated unequivocally that biochar can treat a wide range of wastewater even though the adsorption mechanisms of biochar on heavy metals, inorganic salts and organic pollutants in wastewater are not entirely consistent. The review further analyzes the factors affecting the performance of biochar in adsorbing pollutants from wastewater and the improvement measures of biochar functional characteristics, proposing the future research directions focusing on the improvement of the adsorption capacity of biochar products. The information synthesis and discussion would provide valuable insights on the historical, current, and future trends in biochar research, beneficial to solve the practical problems of water pollution and improve the quality of the environment. In this paper, coal measure kaolin after flotation decarburization was made into an adsorbent by ball milling and acid modification to absorb methylene blue in water, achieving the treatment of waste with waste. The objective of this paper is to expand the application of coal measure kaolin, reduce its stock, and lower the raw material cost of adsorbents while treating wastewater containing methylene blue. The optimum milling time, acid boiling conditions, and adsorption conditions were investigated. Furthermore, the adsorption mechanism was investigated by kinetic calculation. The results show that the optimum milling time is 7 h. Relatively good acid modification conditions include a boiling temperature of 100 °C, a stirring time of 135 min, a stirring speed of 1000 r·min−1, and a concentration of hydrochloric acid of 8 mol·L−1. When 0.05 g of flotation kaolin adsorbent was used to adsorb the solution with pH 12 and a methylene blue concentration of 100 mg·L−1, the optimal adsorption conditions were a 38.05 °C adsorption temperature, a 160 r·min−1 stirring speed, and a 31.02 min stirring time. Under these optimal conditions, the adsorption quantity reached 39.92 mg·g−1. The adsorption process involves physical adsorption and spontaneous adsorption. The adsorption type is known as the quasi-second-order adsorption kinetic model. The adsorption form is heterogeneous adsorption in which a monolayer and a multi-molecular layer coexist. Developing multifunctional materials with oil/water separation, dye adsorption, and antibacterial activities presents an enticing prospect for wastewater treatment. In this paper, a three-dimensional (3D) porous cellulose (CE)/quaternized cellulose (QCE) composite aerogel with super-wettability through co-deposition of polydopamine (PDA) and polyethylenimine (PEI) is reported. The PDA/PEI coating endows the aerogel with superhydrophilicity (WCA = 0°), and the QCE act as an anionic dye sorbent at the same time, endowing the material with antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli (E. coli). Oil/water mixtures can be separated on an as-prepared aerogel with high efficiency (>99%), even when the filtration was repeated 10 times, and the as-prepared aerogel can also separate oil-in-water emulsions. Moreover, the as-prepared aerogel exhibited excellent adsorption performance for alizarin red, with a calculated maximum adsorption capacity of 454.545 mg g−1. Besides, our modification also endowed the aerogel with antibacterial and anti-oil-fouling activities. The inhibition zone test verified the efficient elimination of E. coli. Water is necessary for agriculture, industry, and human consumption. Reportedly, freshwater resources are scarce, and it is obvious that industrial and agricultural activities can contaminate water. Consequently, there is a need to continue searching for affordable and environmentally friendly technologies for treating water. Adsorption is a method that saves money and has become popular because it allows for the least amount of garbage to be disposed of. Hence, the contemporary situation and the primary challenges with adsorption as one of the utmost technologies for water monitoring and remediation are briefly discussed in this review article. A number of significant topics that have been extensively covered in the literature, such as adsorbent materials, adsorption operation mode, modelling, regeneration process, and operation procedure using actual samples, are all highlighted in this paper. Conclusively, the paper also outlined what directions, in the form of future prospects, will probably serve as the next steps needed to advance new perspectives and original research in the application of adsorption techniques for treating water vis-à-vis innovative techniques for water monitoring and remediation. In order to achieve the purpose of efficiently removing lead and cadmium as the main heavy metals from wastewater, this paper explores the adsorption properties of cadmium ions and lead ions on biochar under different modified conditions prepared from corn stalks as raw materials and potassium phosphate as surface modifiers. Before preparing biochar (BC), the mass ratios of 1:1 and 1:2 (corn stalks to potassium phosphate) were used for pre-modification, and the oxygen-restricted pyrolysis processes of 350 °C, 550 °C and 750 °C were used for treatment. The study discussed the individual and composite adsorption effects of biochar on Pb2+ and Cd2+ under different conditions. The experimental results show that phosphorus modification has changed the physical and chemical properties of the original biochar. Among them, the biochar (2PBC550) with an impregnation ratio of 1:2 and a pyrolysis temperature of 550 °C (2PBC550) exhibits excellent adsorption properties. When the pH of the simulated wastewater is 5 and the amount of adsorbent is 30 mg·L−1, the maximum adsorption capacity of Pb2+ and Cd2+ is 145.48 mg·g−1 and 14.533 mg·g−1, respectively, which are 6.46 times and 3.67 times of the original biochar. The Pb2+ and Cd2+ adsorption data of 2PBC550 fit well with the quasi-secondary dynamics and Langmuir isothermal models, indicating that the adsorption process is controlled by single-layer chemical adsorption. In the composite metal system of Pb2+ and Cd2+, 2PBC550 exhibits a stronger affinity for Pb2+ than Cd2+. Through the analysis of characterization methods such as SEM, FTIR, XRD and XPS, it is proved that the adsorption of Pb2+ and Cd2+ by 2PBC550 is due to precipitation, complexation and π electron interaction. The enhanced coalbed methane recovery using CO2 injection (CO2-ECBM) is widely proposed as a way of achieving the energy transition and reducing atmospheric CO2 in areas such as the Lorrain basin in France, where heavy industry is responsible for huge CO2 emissions and coal mines have been closed for more than a decade. This paper deals with the feasibility of extracting methane from the Lorraine basin using CO2-ECBM by comparing data from sorption isotherms, thermogravimetric analyses and breakthrough curves for two coal samples. One is bituminous (Box 18), from Folschviller (France) and is compared with another sub-bituminous (TH01) from La Houve (France), which is used as a reference because it was identified as a good candidate for CO2-ECBM in a previous research program. The quantities of adsorbed gases (CO2/CH4) obtained by sorption isotherms, thermogravimetry and CO2 breakthrough curves showed that Box 18 adsorbs more CO2 and CH4 than TH01 due to its higher porosity and good affinity for gases (CO2/CH4). Tόth model fits the experimental CH4 and CO2 adsorption isotherms better, reflecting the fact that the adsorption surface of the coals studied is heterogeneous. Adsorption enthalpies obtained by calorimetry indicated physisorption for gas-coal interactions, with higher values for CO2 than for CH4. Thermogravimetric analyses and breakthrough curves carried out at up to 50% relative humidity showed that the adsorption capacity of CO2 decreases with increasing temperature and the presence of water, respectively. The compilation of these experimental data explained the adsorption process of the studied coals and revealed their advantages for CO2-ECBM. Highlights: The Folschviller coal from Lorrain basin (France) meets the main criteria to be a good candidate for CO2-ECBM due to his porosity network, adsorption capacity and affinity for gases (CO2/CH4). The binding energy between the gas and the coal samples is low corresponding to physical adsorption; however, chemical adsorption of CO2 was detected by thermogravimetry at atmospheric pressure. Calorimetry and sorption isotherms modelling showed that the adsorption surface of coal is heterogeneous with a progressive filling of the high energy sites towards the lower energy sites. The recovery of valuable gold from wastewater is of great interest because of the widespread use of the precious metal in various fields and the pollution generated by gold-containing wastes in water. In this paper, a water-insoluble cross-linked adsorbent material (TE) based on cyanuric chloride (TCT) and ethylenediamine (EDA) was designed and used for the adsorption of Au(III) from wastewater. It was found that TE showed extremely high selectivity (D = 49,213.46) and adsorption capacity (256.19 mg/g) for Au(III) under acidic conditions. The adsorption rate remained above 90% eVen after five adsorption–desorption cycles. The adsorption process followed the pseudo-first-order kinetic model and the Freundlich isotherm model, suggesting that physical adsorption with a multilayer molecular overlay dominates. Meanwhile, the adsorption mechanism was obtained by DFT calculation and XPS analysis, and the adsorption mechanism was mainly the electrostatic interaction and electron transfer between the protonated N atoms in the adsorbent (TE) and AuCl4−, which resulted in the redox reaction. The whole adsorption process was the result of the simultaneous action of physical and chemical adsorption. This paper proposes a new, highly effective fluorescence test for Cr(VI) detection. This method utilizes a hydrogel composed of hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC), nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots (N–CQDs), and poly(co-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propane sulfonic acid) (AMPS). The N–CQDs were successfully synthesized using a simple microwave method, and then conjugated with HEC and AMPS. The higher adsorption (99.41%) and higher reduction rate in H1 likely stems from both the presence of N–CQDs (absent in HB) and their increased free functional groups (compared to H2/H3, where N–CQDs block them). This facilitates the release (desorption) of Cr(VI) from the hydrogels, making it more available for reduction to the less toxic Cr(III). The fluorescent brightness of the HEC-N–CQDs-g-poly(AMPS) hydrogel increases gradually when Cr(VI) is added in amounts ranging from 15 to 120 mg/L. The fluorescent enhancement of the HEC-N–CQDs-g-poly(AMPS) hydrogel appeared to exhibit a good linear relationship with the 15–120 mg of the Cr(VI) concentration, with a detection limit of 0.0053 mg/L, which is lower than the standard value published by WHO. More than 70% of the potash fertilizer globally is produced by the froth flotation process, in which 4-dodecylmorpholine (DMP) serves as a reverse flotation agent. As the potash fertilizer production rapidly rises, the increased DMP levels in discharged brine pose a threat to the production of high-value chemicals. In this paper, composite particles of basic magnesium sulfate@TiO2 (BMS@TiO2) were prepared using a simple and mild loading method. These particles were utilized for the adsorption and photocatalytic degradation of DMP in brine. Compared with normal powdered materials, the granular BMS@TiO2 in this study can be easily separated from liquid, and the degradation intermediates will not enter the brine without causing secondary pollution. BMS@TiO2 consists of 5·1·7 phase (5Mg(OH)2·MgSO4·7H2O) whisker clusters embedding 2.3% TiO2. The adsorption equilibrium of DMP on BMS@TiO2 particles was achieved through hydrogen bonding and pore interception with the adsorption capacity of approximately 5 mg g−1 after 6 h. The photodegradation efficiency of DMP adsorbed on BMS@TiO2 reached about 92% within 16 h, which is compared with that of pure TiO2 nanoparticles. Additionally, excellent stability and recyclability of BMS@TiO2 were also observed in five cycle tests of adsorption and photocatalytic degradation of DMP, and the possible photocatalytic degradation pathways and mechanism of DMP are proposed following molecular electrostatic potential analysis. In recent years, atmospheric composite pollution has become increasingly serious, and accelerating VOC governance has become the focus of and difficulty in atmospheric governance. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) come from a wide range of sources, and industrial sources are the main source of anthropogenic VOC emissions in China. Chemicals, oil refining, and solvents are three typical VOC-emitting industries, and their control is an important part of accelerating and optimizing VOC governance. It can be controlled by source control, process control, and pipe end treatment; among these, pipe end treatment is divided into recovery technology and destruction technology. In pipeline end treatment, with the key materials of adsorption, absorption, catalytic oxidation, and catalytic combustion, the research and development of adsorbents, absorbents and catalysts has become a hot spot in recent years. This paper summarizes the chemical materials used in typical VOC pipe end-treatment technology (including adsorbents used in the adsorption method, absorbents used in the adsorption method, and catalysts used in the catalytic oxidation and catalytic combustion methods), summarizes the advantages and disadvantages of various materials and their application range, and looks forward to the direction of future developments. In this paper, we report the synthesis of a multi-template molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) to target and extract naproxen, ibuprofen, diclofenac, emtricitabine, tenofovir disoproxil, and efavirenz from wastewater bodies. A bulk polymerization procedure was used to synthesize the MIP and non-imprinted polymer (NIP). The specific recognition sites for each target were obtained through the removal of the imprinted targeted compounds. The interaction of antiretroviral drugs (ARVs) and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) compounds with the MIP was studied under various conditions such as pH, mass, concentration, and time factors. The results demonstrated the optimum conditions were 55 mg of MIP, pH 7.0, a concentration of 5 mg L−1, and a contact time of 10 min. For every compound studied, the extraction efficiencies for ARVs and NSAIDs in aqueous solutions was >96%. The adsorption capacity for the MIP was >0.91 mg·g−1. Adsorption obeys a second-order rate, and the Freundlich model explains the adsorption isotherm data. This study demonstrated that the synthesized multi-template MIP has huge potential to be employed for the removal of ARVs and NSAIDs from the environment as well as in drug purification or recovery processes. Detection of organic pollutants and biomolecules at very low concentrations is a great challenge for protecting the environment and diagnosis of human health. Noble metal nanomaterials have been employed as active surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) substrates for such detection but suffer with high cost. The two-dimensional (2D) transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) can be used as cost-effective alternative SERS substrates for the detection of organic impurities and biomolecules. Here, we report the hydrothermally synthesized in-situ grown MoS 2 films over conducting carbon paper (CCP) and fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) coated glass and used them as SERS substrates for the detection of Rhodamine 6G (R6G), vitamin B 12 and bilirubin. We observe that hydrothermally in-situ grown MoS 2 film over FTO coated glass (MoS 2 -FTO) shows a better SERS detection limit for studied analytes compared to the in-situ grown MoS 2 film over conducting carbon paper (MoS 2 -CCP). We observe the detection of R6G, vitamin B 12 , and bilirubin with maximum enhancement factors of 2.42 × 106, 4.18 × 102, and 2.78 × 106, respectively, using MoS 2 -FTO as SERS substrate. Furthermore, we demonstrate the electrochemical-SERS (EC-SERS) activity of prepared SERS substrates. The MoS 2 -FTO shows a better EC-SERS signal as compared to MoS 2 -CCP due to the high conductivity (maximum charge transfer at oxidation potential), strong chemical adsorption, change of orientation, and density of the molecules on the surface of the substrate. In order to explore a medium material for the efficient treatment of Pb(II) pollutants in groundwater, in this paper, mudstone is selected as the medium material, and the morphological structure of the mudstone is characterizes via X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) analyses to study the feasibility of the mudstone adsorbing Pb(II) ions. Then, static adsorption experiments are carried out to investigate the removal effect of mudstone on Pb(II) in aqueous solutions under different conditions and to determine the optimal adsorption conditions. Finally, the results are fitted and analyzed using a thermodynamic model to explore the adsorption mechanism of the mudstone. The main results of this study are as follows. The main mineral composition of the mudstone used in the experiments includes CaCO3, SiO2, CaAl2O4·10H2O, and CaFe4O7. The specific surface area of the mudstone is as high as 23.027 m2·g−1, the pore size is 9.145 nm, and its surface structure is rough, with pores and fissures developed. The pore space and adsorption capacity of the mudstone were enhanced. When 1 g·L−1 of mudstone was added, the pH value of the solution was 6, the reaction time was 60 min, and the initial concentration of Pb(II) was 30 mg·L−1. The removal efficiency of Pb reached 84.5%, and the adsorption amount was 25.352 mg·g−1. For the removal of Pb(II) from the aqueous solution by the mudstone under different concentrations of Pb(II), the reaction was in accordance with the Langmuir adsorption isotherm model, and the maximum adsorption amount reached 54.975 mg·g−1. The relationship between the removal of Pb(II) and the reaction time was in accordance with the pseudo-second-order rate model. Underwater unmanned robots are an essential tool for human underwater exploration and detection and are widely employed in a variety of underwater operational settings. One of the hottest issues in this field is applying bionic notions to the creation of underwater unmanned robots by simulating fish swimming or cephalopod crawling. Using the tentacle suction cup adsorption technique during octopus' predation as a model, underwater magnetic adsorption robots with the opening and closing claws were studied in this paper. First, the robot's general structural design is presented. The claw mechanism is demonstrated by mimicking the octopus's tentacle action during feeding, which primarily consists of an opening and closing claw that replicates the octopus's tentacle and a magnetic adsorption unit that replicates the octopus's suction cup adsorption. Then, the Kriging response surface optimization method is used to optimize the design of the claw mechanism to obtain excellent mechanical properties, and simulation software is used to verify. Finally, a robot prototype was built and its pool tests were conducted, with some experimental results presented. The experimental results show that after the robot reaches the predetermined position through pneumatic ejection and secondary propulsion launch, it can quickly open its claws within 0.11 s and apply 462.42 N adsorption force to complete the adsorption of the target. Given the superior performance of SF6 in arc extinguishing and its wide application in high voltage fields, the search for new adsorbent materials for SF6 and its main decomposition products holds significant importance in mitigating greenhouse gas potential and its implications for the environment and energy sectors. We chose ZIF-67, an organic framework with a high specific surface area and distinctive pore size structure, to address this important issue. Using the grand canonical Monte Carlo simulation approach, we investigated the adsorption of SF6 and its main decomposer gases by ZIF-67 at GPa. The interaction of ZIF-67 with SF6 and its main breakdown products was then examined at the level of atomic orbital interactions, with the adsorption energy and density of states estimated using density functional theory. The findings reveal that ZIF-67 has the best ability to capture H2S, with a saturation capacity of 3.2 mmol g−1 at room temperature. Its adsorption capacity for SOF2 and SO2F2 is about five to seven times higher than that of industrial adsorbents kdhF-03, and the working conditions are milder. The molecule radius and adsorption capacity are tightly correlated. An innovative method for the widespread recovery and treatment of SF6 and its byproducts is presented in this research. Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) represent the largest class of materials among crystalline porous materials ever developed, and have attracted attention as core materials for separation technology. Their extremely uniform pore aperture and nearly unlimited structural and chemical characteristics have attracted great interest and promise for applying MOFs to adsorptive and membrane-based separations. This paper reviews the recent research into and development of MOF membranes for gas separation. Strategies for polycrystalline membranes and mixed-matrix membranes are discussed, with a focus on separation systems involving hydrocarbon separation, CO2 capture, and H2 purification. Challenges to and opportunities for the industrial deployment of MOF membranes are also discussed, providing guidance for the design and fabrication of future high-performance membranes. The contributions of the underlying mechanism to separation performance and adopted strategies and membrane-processing technologies for breaking the selectivity/permeability trade-off are discussed. Glyceryl monostearate (GMS) was used as an organic friction modifier (OFM) and added to the base oil (PAO10, polyα-olefin) in this study. The film thickness and friction coefficient of the base oil added with GMS (PAO10G) under different slider inclinations and loads were investigated experimentally by using a slider-on-disc contact lubricant film measurement system, and the effect of the adsorption of GMS on the friction behavior of lubricant was studied. Contact angle hysteresis (CAH) was used to evaluate the wettability of the solid–liquid interface, and its correlation with the coefficient of friction was analyzed. The results show that CAH is in good agreement with the wettability of the solid–liquid interface. Compared with the base oil, the wettability of POA10G is weak, which can effectively reduce the coefficient of friction. However, different from the classical lubrication theory, the film thickness of PAO10G is higher than that of PAO10; this unusual phenomenon is preliminarily explained by the interface slippage in this paper. The paper investigates the solar photodegradation of Methylene Blue dye using copper oxide (CuO) thin films synthesized by the Successive Ionic Layer Adsorption and Reaction (SILAR) method. The structural, morphological, and optical characteristics of the CuO thin films have been investigated by employing a variety of methods, such as Fourier transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The outcomes showed that CuO thin films with excellent surface shape and a highly crystalline nature had been successfully deposited. Methylene Blue was subjected to solar radiation during its photodegradation process, and the outcomes showed a significant decrease in the dye's concentration over time. To maximize the photodegradation process, the effects of other experimental factors were also assessed, such as the starting concentration of MB, the quantity of CuO thin film, the number of SILAR cycles and the pH of the solution. Good photocatalytic activity is demonstrated by CuO thin films produced using the SILAR approach in the solar photodegradation of methylene blue. In this paper, the physical adsorption of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as methyl chloride (CH3Cl), carbon disulfide (CS2), dimethyl sulfide (C2H6S), and benzene (C6H6) by three models of activated carbon (without a functional group, with a pyridine-containing functional group, and with a pyrrole-containing functional group) was simulated. The surface electrostatic potential (ESP), physical adsorption energy, and non-covalent interaction between activated carbon and VOC molecules were analyzed based on the density functional theory (DFT). The effect mechanism of nitrogen-containing functional groups on VOC adsorption by activated carbon was determined. Our simulations showed that nitrogen-containing functional groups can change the surface ESP and polarity of activated carbon. The pyrrole functional group is conducive to CH3Cl and CS2 adsorption on the activated carbon plane, while the pyridine functional group is relatively small or even unfavorable for CH3Cl and CS2 adsorption on the activated carbon plane. The promotional effect of the pyrrole functional group on the adsorption of C2H6S is more significant than that of the pyridine functional group. The adsorption of C6H6 on activated carbon occurs through parallel-displaced π–π stacking interactions, in which functional groups have little influence on it. The adsorption energy of VOCs on the activated carbon plane is higher than that at the edge, so VOCs are more likely to be adsorbed on the activated carbon plane. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The direct discharge of rare earth wastewater causes the waste of resources and heavy metal pollution. This paper compared the adsorption behaviors of lanthanide ions on bentonite under sulfate and nitrate systems by examining the factors affecting the adsorption, such as adsorption time, pH, background electrolyte concentration, and initial rare earth ion concentration. It was shown that the sulfate system was more favorable for the adsorption of rare earth ions on the bentonite surface. The maximum adsorption capacity in the sulfate system was about 1.7 times that in the nitrate system. In contrast, the adsorption under the nitrate system was more sensitive to the changes in pH and background electrolyte concentration. The adsorption processes under both systems are spontaneous physical adsorption processes (ΔGθ are from −27.64 to −31.48 kJ/mol), and both are endothermic (ΔHθ are 10.38 kJ/mol for the nitrate and 7.53 kJ/mol for the sulfate) and entropy-increasing (ΔSθ are 61.54 J/mol for the nitrate and 76.24 J∙mol−1 for the sulfate) processes. The paper presents the results of experimental and model studies of the pressure swing adsorption (PSA) process in a column with a zeolite 13X bed with a height of 0.5 m. The gas mixture consisted of CO2 (10–20%), N2, and H2O (RH 50%) in different ratios. As a result of the column tests, concentration, and temperature evolutions were obtained for each of the adsorption and desorption stages, which were used to determine the breakthrough and bed saturation times and other parameters important for the analysis of the column operation. A mathematical model of the PSA process for the separation of CO2 from the gas mixture was developed. The system of second-order partial differential equations was solved using Matlab software. Oil-immersed transformers play a pivotal role owing to their environmentally friendly characteristics, compact footprint, and cost-effectiveness. Ensuring the online monitoring of oil-immersed transformers is a fundamental measure to ensure the secure and stable operation of modern power systems. In this paper, metal particle cluster-doped SnS is firstly used in the adsorption and sensing of decomposition components (CO, C2H2) under fault conditions in oil-immersed transformers. The study comprehensively analyzed band structure, differential charge density, density of states, and molecular orbital theory to unveil the adsorption and sensing mechanisms of target gases. The findings suggest that the modification of metal particle clusters can enhance the surface electronic properties of single-layer SnS. In the regions of metal particle clusters and the gas–surface reaction area, electronic activity is significantly heightened, primarily attributed to the contribution of d-orbital electrons of the metal cluster structures. The modified SnS exhibits adsorption capacity in the following order: Ru3-SnS > Mo3-SnS > Au3-SnS. Additionally, the modified material demonstrates increased competitiveness for C2H2, with adsorption types falling under physical chemistry adsorption. Different metal elements exert diverse effects on the electronic distribution of the entire system, providing a theoretical foundation for the preparation of corresponding sensors. The findings in this work offer numerical insights for the further preparation and development of SnS nanosensors, concurrently shedding light on the online monitoring of faults in oil-immersed transformers. The purpose of this manuscript is to present a review of laboratory experiments (including methodology and results) that use biochar, a specific carbon obtained by a pyrolysis process from different feedstocks, as an alternative material for heavy metal adsorption from groundwater. In recent years, many studies have been conducted regarding the application of innovative materials to water decontamination to develop a more sustainable approach to remediation processes. The use of biochar for groundwater remediation has particularly attracted the interest of researchers because it permits the reuse of materials that would be otherwise disposed of, in accordance with circular economy, and reduces the generation of greenhouse gases if compared to the use of virgin materials. A review of the different approaches and results reported in the current literature could be useful because when applying remediation technologies at the field scale, a preliminary phase in which the suitability of the adsorbent is evaluated at the lab scale is often necessary. This paper is therefore organised with a short description of the involved metals and of the biochar production and composition. A comprehensive analysis of the current knowledge related to the use of biochar in groundwater remediation at the laboratory scale to obtain the characteristic parameters of the process that are necessary for the upscaling of the technology at the field scale is also presented. An overview of the results achieved using different experimental conditions, such as the chemical properties and dosage of biochar as well as heavy metal concentrations with their different values of pH, is reported. The advanced Gas Insulated Switchgear/Gas Insulated Lines (GIS/GIL) transmission equipment serves as an essential physical infrastructure for establishing a new energy power system. An analysis spanning nearly a decade on faults arising from extra/ultra-high voltage discharges reveals that over 60% of such faults are attributed to the discharge of metal particles and dust. While existing technical means, such as ultra-high frequency and ultrasonic sensing, exhibit effectiveness in online monitoring of particles larger than sub-millimeter dimensions, the inherent randomness and elusive nature of micron-nano dust pose challenges for effective characterization through current technology. This elusive micron-nano dust, likely concealed as a latent threat, necessitates special attention due to its potential as a "safety killer". To address the challenges associated with detecting micron-nano dust and comprehending its intricate mechanisms, this paper introduces a micron-nano dust adsorption experimental platform tailored for observation and practical application in GIS/GIL operations. The findings highlight that micron-nano dust's adsorption state in the electric field predominantly involves agglomerative adsorption along the insulator surface and diffusive adsorption along the direction of the ground electrode. The pivotal factors influencing dust movement include the micron-nano dust's initial position, mass, material composition, and applied voltage. Further elucidation emphasizes the potential of micron-nano dust as a concealed safety hazard. The study reveals specific physical phenomena during the adsorption process. Agglomerative adsorption results in micron-nano dust speckles forming on the epoxy resin insulator's surface. With increasing voltage, these speckles undergo an "explosion", forming an annular dust halo with deepening contours. This phenomenon, distinct from the initial adsorption, is considered a contributing factor to flashovers along the insulator's surface. The physical mechanism behind flashovers triggered by micron-nano dust is uncovered, highlighting the formation of a localized short circuit area and intense electric field distortion constituted by dust speckles. The issue of cigarette butts is an environmental crisis that has affected the world. Despite their small size, CBs are one of the most common types of solid waste found in public places, particularly in coastal areas. The aim of this study was to investigate the adsorption behavior of microfibers obtained from cigarette butts on tetracycline before and after aging. 1 g of CBs was added to 50 mL of distilled water and stirred at 220 rpm for 2 h, then filtered through Whatman 0.45 µm filter paper, and the resulting MFs were dried at 60 °C for 24 h. To simulate aging, the MFs were subjected to an ultrasonic treatment at a frequency of 80 Hz and a power of 70 W for 4 h. The adsorption behavior of aged and fresh MFs was investigated using solutions containing TTC in the range of 5–20 mg/L. This study showed that ultrasonically aged MFs had a greater tendency to adsorb TTC than fresh MFs due to an increased surface area and changes in surface chemistry. It can be concluded that as the age of MFs increases, they adsorb more concentration of pollutants. This can lead to increased contamination of MFs in the presence of contaminants. Elevated concentrations of heavy metals in natural waters can cause significant ecological problems. It is therefore essential to ensure their removal from any water discharged into the environment immediately, especially in case of an accident, where there is a risk of releasing large quantities or high concentrations. The aim of this paper is to test a newly developed adsorbent for the removal of heavy metals from aqueous solutions—in particular, it is very fast adsorption, and thus efficiency, during clean-ups. The alkali-activated foamed zeolite adsorbent was laboratory-prepared and -tested in both batch and flow-through arrangements on single and multi-component solutions and compared with natural zeolite. The experimental setup for batch adsorption consisted of a set of samples and solutions containing iron, cobalt, manganese, zinc and nickel. The samples were put on a horizontal shaker with a 500 mg adsorbent loading in a 50 mL solution. The column adsorption experimental setup consisted of a glass column with an inside diameter of 15 mm and a bed length of 165 mm. A measured amount of each adsorbent was added to the column to achieve a filter fixed-bed height of 160 mm. The high efficiency of the tested adsorbent on various heavy metals was confirmed. The adsorbent has a high potential for use in decontamination processes, water protection and landscape revitalization. Due to its rapid precipitation and subsequent fixation of metal cations in the form of insoluble oxide or hydroxide, it can be used as an emergency adsorbent, the great advantage of which is its low production cost and natural origin. 2-ethylhexanol, an oxo alcohol competitively priced on the global market, has not been explored intensively as a raw material for surfactants, due to its weak hydrophobic character. However, its sequenced propoxylation and ethoxylation yield an innovative amphiphilic structure, which exhibits unique interfacial activity. The paper presents the differences in the fractional composition of innovative surfactants derived from 2-EH alcohol prepared using alkali and dimetalcyanide catalysts, as well as examples of excellent adsorption and interfacial properties of the latter. The adsorption behavior of the synthesized compounds was explored using equilibrium surface tension (the du Noüy ring method), dynamic surface tension (the maximum gas bubble pressure method) and static/dynamic contact angle (the sessile drop method). The results from the adsorption tests conducted at the air/aqueous surfactant solution interface underwent comprehensive qualitative and quantitative analyses. Moreover, based on the experimentally obtained dynamic surface tension isotherms and the developed algorithm, the diffusion coefficients for these preparations were estimated, and it was shown that the diffusivity of these surfactants is higher compared to the commercial formulations. The study's outcomes in the testing of wettability indicate that new synthesized nonionic and anionic surfactants constitute an interesting group of amphiphiles with a wide application potential as effective wetting agents, especially in relation to the polymer surface. Understanding the adsorption interactions between carbon materials and sulfur compounds has far‐reaching impacts, in addition to their well‐known important role in energy storage and conversion, such as lithium‐ion batteries. In this paper, properties of intrinsic B or Si single‐atom doped, and B–Si codoped graphene (GR) and graphdiyne (GDY) were investigated by using density functional theory‐based calculations, in which the optimal doping configurations were explored for potential applications in adsorbing sulfur compounds. Results showed that both B or Si single‐atom doping and B–Si codoping could substantially enhance the electron transport properties of GR and GDY, improving their surface activity. Notably, B and Si atoms displayed synergistic effects for the codoped configurations, where B–Si codoped GR/GDY exhibited much better performance in the adsorption of sulfur‐containing chemicals than single‐atom doped systems. In addition, results demonstrated that, after B–Si codoping, the adsorption energy and charge transfer amounts of GDY with sulfur compounds were much larger than those of GR, indicating that B–Si codoped GDY might be a favorable material for more effectively interacting with sulfur reagents. Sustainable development policy focuses on reducing the carbon footprint generated by the global industry and energy sector. Replacing conventional energy sources with environmentally friendly ones requires advanced research to increase energy efficiency and reduce the instability and intermittence of renewable sources. Moreover, adsorption chillers are an opportunity to introduce net-zero emission technologies to the refrigeration, air-conditioning, and desalination industries. Adsorption devices could be popularized if a method of effective heat transfer in the volume of the adsorption bed is developed. The innovative concept of introducing fluidized beds into the adsorption system can achieve the most promising results in improving energy efficiency. To confirm the adopted assumption, heat transfer coefficient calculations for the packed and fluidized bed were carried out in this paper based on experimental tests and literature data. The empirical research aims to extend the fundamental knowledge in the implementation of fluidization under low-pressure conditions, characteristic of the adsorption systems' working cycle. Experiments were conducted on a unique test stand equipped with the Intensified Heat Transfer Adsorption Bed (IHTAB) reactor prototype. Five adsorption bed samples were analyzed. The reference sample consisted only of silica gel, and the subsequent ones contained aluminum or carbon nanotubes with 5 and 10% additions. In the case of samples with admixtures, the fluidized state increased the heat transfer coefficient on average from approx. 36.9 W/m2 K to approx. 245.4 W/m2 K. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Featured Application: This study aimed to synthesize a novel biomass-based, chemically activated carbon from Pinus radiata sawdust and to investigate its effectiveness in the removal of wood dyes from aqueous solutions in a fixed-bed column. In this paper, an activated carbon obtained from Pinus radiata sawdust is applied to remove blue, red, and black wood dyes from aqueous solutions in a fixed-bed column. The flow rate (7.7–30.8 mL min−1), initial dye concentration (25–500 mg L−1), and bed height (2–4 cm) highly influence the breakthrough-curves' features. The results indicate that the adsorption capacity increased by decreasing the flow rate and increasing the initial dye concentration, except for the black dye, and increasing bed height, except for the red dye. In addition, the breakthrough time changed by modifying the studied variables. The curves became steeper as the flow rate increased and as the bed height decreased. Also, by increasing the inlet dye concentration, the breakthrough time decreased significantly, and sharper breakthrough curves were obtained. The activated carbon with a surface area of 2826 m2 g−1 led to high values of the adsorption capacity between 150 and 1300 mg g−1. The Yoon–Nelson and Thomas models were the ones that best described the adsorption data. Activated carbon fibers (ACFs) derived from various polymeric fibers with the characteristics of a high specific surface area, developed pore structure, and good flexibility are promising for the new generation of chemical protection clothing. In this paper, a polyacrylonitrile-based ACF felt was prepared via the process of liquid phase pre-oxidation, along with a one-step carbonization and chemical activation method. The obtained ACF felt exhibited a large specific surface area of 2219.48 m2/g and pore volume of 1.168 cm3/g, as well as abundant polar groups on the surface. Owing to the developed pore structure and elaborated surface chemical property, the ACF felt possessed an intriguing adsorption performance for a chemical warfare agent simulant dipropyl sulfide (DPS), with the highest adsorption capacity being 202.38 mg/g. The effects of the initial concentration of DPS and temperature on the adsorption performance of ACF felt were investigated. Meanwhile, a plausible adsorption mechanism was proposed based on the kinetic analysis and fitting of different adsorption isotherm models. The results demonstrated that the adsorption process of DPS onto ACF felt could be well fitted with a pseudo-second-order equation, indicating a synergistic effect of chemical adsorption and physical adsorption. The production of cobalt oxide nanoparticles and their use in the adsorption of methylene blue (MB) from solution is described in the paper. The X-ray diffraction patterns show that the synthesized cobalt oxide nanoparticles have a crystalline cubic structure. The study of the adsorption of methylene blue onto the cobalt oxide nanoparticles involved determining the contact time and initial concentration of the adsorption of MB on the adsorbent. The kinetics of adsorption were analyzed using two kinetic models (pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order), and the pseudo-second-order model was found to be the most appropriate for describing the behavior of the adsorption. This study indicates that the MLTS (monolayer with the same number of molecules per site) model is the most suitable model for describing methylene blue/cobalt oxide systems, and the parameter values help to further understand the adsorption process with the steric parameters. Indicating that methylene blue is horizontally adsorbed onto the surface of the cobalt oxide, which is bonded to two different receptor sites. Regarding the temperature effect, it was found that the adsorption capacity increased, with the experimental value ranging from 313.7 to 405.3 mg g−1, while the MLTS predicted 313.32 and 408.16 mg g−1. From the thermodynamic functions, high entropy was found around 280 mg L−1 concentration. For all concentrations and temperatures examined, the Gibbs free energy and enthalpy of adsorption were found to be negative and positive, respectively, suggesting that the system is spontaneous and endothermic. According to this study's findings, methylene blue adsorption onto cobalt oxide nanoparticles happens via the creation of a monolayer, in which the same amount of molecules are adsorbed at two distinct locations. In this paper, anthracite in Shanxi region is taken as a research object, and the pore structure of coal under different freeze-thaw times is characterized and analyzed by scanning electron microscope and nitrogen adsorption experiment. The SEM experimental results show that the micron-scale cracks on the surface of anthracite gradually connect after freeze-thaw, and the secondary crack channels are formed around the pores and air holes, so that the pores also begin to connect. Further, the quantitative information of the picture was extracted, and it was found that the surface porosity and fractal dimension of the coal sample changed significantly after three freeze-thaw cycles, which increased by 163.3% and 15.9% respectively, and increased with the increase of freeze-thaw cycles. The results of low-temperature nitrogen adsorption experiments show that the coal samples after freeze-thaw are mainly crack, and the pore structure changes from simple to complex. In addition, the maximum nitrogen adsorption capacity, specific surface area and pore volume increased by 125.7%, 69.3% and 72.6%, respectively. With the increase of freeze-thaw times, the growth rates of maximum nitrogen adsorption capacity, specific surface area and pore volume are significantly different. The results of joint characterization show that the number of pores and cracks increases to different degrees after freezing and thawing. Comparing the increase in the degree of fracturing (163.3%) with the increase in the total pore volume (30.68%), we find that the degree of change of the crack after thawing is higher than that of the pore. In this paper, the damage effect of coal samples after freezing and thawing with liquid nitrogen is investigated from an experimental point of view, which accelerates the great leap of cyclic cryogenic fracturing technology from basic theory to technical practice. The potential use of sewage sludge as a precursor for the production of activated carbon was explored in this paper. After chemical activation with ZnCl2, three activated carbons were used to decontaminate synthetic solutions containing Bisphenol A and the results were compared with a commercial activated carbon. The effect of the impregnation ratio (activating agent/precursor) and the use of CO2 during the second carbonisation on the textural properties and Bisphenol A adsorption performance of the activated carbons were studied. The highest specific surface area achieved was 730 m2/g, obtained with an impregnation ratio of 2:1 with the use of CO2.The kinetics of Bisphenol A adsorption were successfully described by both pseudo-second-order and Elovich models, while the adsorption isotherms were well fitted to the Freundlich model. The prepared activated carbon had excellent adsorption efficiency toward Bisphenol A with a maximum adsorption of 285.8 mg/g which was closer to the retention amount of the commercial one. The best adsorption conditions for Bisphenol A removal were obtained by applying response surface methodology (RSM) coupled with Box-Behnken design (BBD) onto AC-Industrial2. Under these conditions, 657.76 mg/g can be reached. Thus, these optimum conditions were therefore applied for bisphenol A removal from real effluents and the obtained results are very promising. The research work is devoted to the kinetics of adsorption. Needless to say that physical adsorption is of great interest in heat industry according to the number of research papers published in the area annually. The working pair of carbon dioxide and consolidated tablet of AC was considered. The mathematical model built for a cylindrical coordinate system, so the computational domain is a rectangle corresponding to the radial section of the tablet. The rate of adsorption implemented using the LDF (linear driving force) model. The temperature map was constructed for analyzing the behavior of the temperature field. Curves of instantaneous uptake and simulated average temperature are obtained. Simulation results are compared with experimental data and shows good agreement. The study also presents findings of a grid sensitivity analysis. The presence of heavy metals in water bodies can cause major problems for human, plant, and animal life. Excessive amounts or over the prescribed limits of heavy metals in water bodies usually contaminates the water, this type of water is called polluted water and this whole process is known as water pollution. Regular consumption of heavy metal-contaminated water above prescribed limits can cause various diseases and sometimes even lead to death. Heavy metals like chromium, arsenic, lead, mercury etc. are more toxic and are easily found in water bodies due to anthropogenic and natural activities. The presence of these heavy metals in water even in tiny concentrations is dangerous to human and animal health. Due to its highly toxic nature, it is paramount to remove these pollutants from water bodies before human use. Adsorption is the best technique to remove these pollutants from wastewater based on cost, efficiency, and feasibility. For the adsorption process, a variety of adsorbent materials have been synthesized by researchers in the past few decades, and yet it remains a challenge for researchers and scientists to synthesize a cost-effective and highly efficient adsorbent. In this prospect, water treatment by adsorption process, nano-composites are emerging materials that show excellent adsorption characteristics due to their outstanding material properties, manageable and low-cost production, and excellent adsorption capacity for chromium adsorption from wastewater. The various nanocomposite adsorbent material prepared by different types of nanoparticles that are supported or embedded on biomass/biochar/graphene/polymer/etc. and used for chromium adsorption have been incorporated. The physio-chemical and structural characteristics of nanocomposites are covered in this review paper. Furthermore, the impact of various adsorption conditions, together with their benefits and drawbacks, on the effectiveness of water treatment are discussed. This thorough review concludes with a summary and some ideas about novel strategies and difficulties in the investigation of advanced and hybrid nanocomposite materials used to remove Cr(VI) from wastewater. In the present paper, a Cu(BDC) metal–organic framework (MOF) is chemically attached to wool via an in-situ synthesizing method. The synthesized novel biocomposite (Cu(BDC)@Wool) was applied as an easily applicable biocomposite to the effective removal of Rifampicin (RIF) from wastewater. Batch adsorption experiments were performed, and the optimum conditions of RIF adsorption (99.3%) were found to be approximately at 25 ppm initial concentration, 1 mg adsorbent, pH 2, time without ultrasonic = 30 min, and time with ultrasonic = 10 which were determined by a response surface methodology. The results of fixed bed experiments showed that better RIF removal was achieved with a low inlet RIF concentration, high adsorbent bed height, and low influent flow rate. The performance of FBAC was maximum (tb = 769, te = 1221 min; %A = 60.6%) at a flow rate of 0.5 mL/min, adsorbent bed height of 7.5 mm, and RIF of 30 ppm. The study of mathematical models shows that the Clark model has the highest correlation with the experimental data. Therefore, the novelty of this work is that ultrasound-assisted removal reduces the equilibration time and can be economically viable for removing RIF from wastewater. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Adsorption heat storage holds great promise for solar energy applications. The development of new adsorbent materials is currently the research focus in this area. The present work designs several activated carbon models with different functional groups, including -OH, -NH2, -COOH, and -SO3H, and explores the influence of functional groups' categories and numbers on the water adsorption capacity of the activated carbon using the GCMC method. The adsorption mechanism between functional groups and water molecules is analyzed using density functional theory. The results show that the functional groups could significantly improve the water adsorption capacity of activated carbon due to the hydrogen bond between functional groups and water molecules. In the scope of this paper, under low pressure, the activated carbon with -SO3H exhibits the best adsorption capacity, followed by the activated carbon with -COOH. Under low and medium pressure, increasing the number of -SO3H functional groups could increase the water adsorption capacity; however, when the pressure is high, increasing the functional group numbers might decrease the water adsorption capacity. As the temperature increases, the water adsorption capacity of activated carbons decreases, and the activated carbon with -SO3H is proven to have excellent application prospects in heat energy storage.
