2. Hypoxia‐inducible factor‐1α attenuates renal podocyte injury in male rats in a simulated high‐altitude environment by upregulating Krüppel‐like factor 4 expression

Abstract Previous studies have shown that podocyte injury is involved in the development of proteinuria in rats under hypobaric hypoxia conditions. Prolyl hydroxylase inhibitors (PHIs) may reduce proteinuria. This study aimed to further investigate whether the protective effects of hypoxia‐inducible factor 1α (HIF1α) on podocyte injury induced by hypobaric hypoxia are related to Krüppel‐like factor 4 (KLF4). Rats were housed in a low‐pressure oxygen chamber to simulate a high‐altitude environment (5000 m), and a PHI was intraperitoneally injected. Urinary protein electrophoresis was performed and the morphology of the podocytes was observed by electron microscopy. Rat podocytes were cultured under 1% O2, and siRNA was used to interfere with KLF4 expression. The protein expression levels of HIF1α, KLF4, CD2‐associated protein (CD2AP) and nephrin were determined by western blotting. Compared with those in the experimental group, the rats in the intervention group on day 14 had lower urinary protein levels, increased protein expression levels of CD2AP and nephrin, and reduced podocyte injury. The results of in vitro experiments showed that the protein expression levels of KLF4, CD2AP and nephrin were greater in the PHI intervention group and lower in the HIF1α inhibitors group than in the low‐oxygen group. The protein expression of CD2AP and nephrin in the siKLF4‐transfected podocytes treated with PHI and HIF1α inhibitors did not differ significantly from that in the low‐oxygen group. HIF1α may be involved in reducing progressive high‐altitude proteinuria by regulating KLF4 expression and contributing to the repair of podocyte injury induced by hypobaric hypoxia.

Abstract Magnetic skyrmions are topological spin textures that are regarded as promising information carriers for next-generation spintronic memory and computing devices. For practical applications, their deterministic generation, manipulation, and efficient detection are the most critical aspects. Although the generation and manipulation of skyrmions have been extensively studied, efficient electrical detection of mobile skyrmions by using techniques that are compatible with modern magnetic memory technology, remains to be adequately addressed. Here, through integrating magnetic multilayers that host nanoscale skyrmions, together with the magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJ), we demonstrate the electrical detection of skyrmions by using the tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) effect with a TMR ratio that reaches over 100% at room temperature. By building prototype three-terminal racetrack-like devices, we further show the electrical detection of mobile skyrmions by recording the time-dependent TMR ratios. Along with many recent developments, our results could advance the development of skyrmionic memory and logic devices.

Abstract Frequency combs, specialized laser sources emitting multiple equidistant frequency lines, have revolutionized science and technology with unprecedented precision and versatility. Recently, integrated frequency combs are emerging as scalable solutions for on-chip photonics. Here, we demonstrate a fully integrated superconducting microcomb that is easy to manufacture, simple to operate, and consumes ultra-low power. Our turnkey apparatus comprises a basic nonlinear superconducting device, a Josephson junction, directly coupled to a superconducting microstrip resonator. We showcase coherent comb generation through self-started mode-locking. Therefore, comb emission is initiated solely by activating a DC bias source, with power consumption as low as tens of picowatts. The resulting comb spectrum resides in the microwave domain and spans multiple octaves. The linewidths of all comb lines can be narrowed down to 1 Hz through a unique coherent injection-locking technique. Our work represents a critical step towards fully integrated microwave photonics and offers the potential for integrated quantum processors.

5. Identification of a new species of Gyrodactylus von Nordmann, 1832 (Monogenoidea Gyrodactylidae) isolated from Diptychus maculatus in Yarkand River, Xinjiang, China

To investigate Gyrodactylus infection of fish in the river system of Xinjiang (China), Gyrodactylus individuals were isolated from specimens of Diptychus maculatus. Morphological characterization and phylogenetic analysis based on ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 rDNA locus revealed that the gyrodactylids belong to new species. Gyrodactylus diptychi n. sp. differs significantly in the morphology of the haptoral structures from 12 known species of Gyrodactylus found in fishes of the subfamily Schizothoracinae. In particular, G. diptychi n. sp. has a relatively short dorsal bar with thick and large ends, flat and straight hamuli roots, and small ventral bar processes. Furthermore, G. diptychi n. sp. is the only representative of Gyrodactylus found on D. maculatus. Using the BLASTn search of ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 rDNA sequences in GenBank and the Bayesian Information and Maximum Likelihood methods, we constructed phylogenetic trees for G. diptychi n. sp. As a result, our studies clearly identified that G. diptychi n. sp. was the first Gyrodactylus monogenean isolated from D. maculatus and a new species belonged to the subgenus Limnonephrotus.

In recent years, with the development of network computer science and the increasing maturity of artificial intelligence technology, data fusion technology has been applied more and more widely. In order to respond to real-life needs and prevent and resolve risks, it helps to further broaden the research path of network governance. This paper focuses on network governance in the era of Internet big data, and uses an algorithm based on data fusion technology to calculate the judgment data, calculation formula and posterior estimates by computing the feature vector X and the measurement value I. After finding the maximum posterior estimate, the probability of evidence under the hypothesis is calculated using the subjective probability as the prior probability of the hypothesis. A multi-degree-of-freedom model is established for simulation research, so as to build a diversified, collaborative and intelligent innovative network social governance system across regional cooperation. The experiment proves that when the threshold value c = 0.4, the performance and efficiency are the best, and it is more able to enhance the leading position of the mainstream value and the assessment mechanism of the relevant departments, which can accelerate the guarantee of the implementation of the network ecological governance system on the ground.

Objectives: To compare color Doppler ultrasound and contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in evaluating vascular invasion in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Materials and methods: This retrospective study included 210 patients with PDAC who were evaluated by color Doppler ultrasound, CEUS, and contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) at our institution between January 2017 and December 2020. Pathologic results were used as the gold standard in patients who underwent surgical and intraoperative exploration. For nonsurgical patients, CECT results were used as the reference standard. The vessels evaluated included those in the peripancreatic arterial system and venous system. The diagnostic performances of color Doppler ultrasound and CEUS for vascular invasion were compared. Results: In 51 patients who underwent surgery and intraoperative exploration, color Doppler ultrasound and CEUS differed only in assessing venous system invasion in patients with PDAC of the pancreatic body and tail, with the former being superior to the latter. In 159 nonsurgical patients, there was no difference between CEUS and color Doppler ultrasound in assessing superior mesenteric arteriovenous invasion. CEUS was superior to color Doppler ultrasound in evaluating the celiac artery and its branches, with an accuracy of up to 97.8% for some vessels. Color Doppler ultrasound was ideal for evaluating the splenic and portal veins. Conclusion: CEUS is more suitable for the evaluation of peripancreatic arteries than color Doppler. CEUS combined with color Doppler ultrasound can be used as a potential supplement to CECT and is also expected to be used to evaluate vascular invasion of PDAC after chemotherapy. Critical relevance statement: Contrast-enhanced US and color Doppler in the assessment of vascular invasion in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma have their respective advantages, through standardized ultrasound processes are expected to improve the efficiency of inspection. Background: Although white matter hyperintensity (WMH) is closely associated with cognitive decline, the precise neurobiological mechanisms underlying this relationship are not fully elucidated. Connectome studies have identified a primary‐to‐transmodal gradient in functional brain networks that support the spectrum from sensation to cognition. However, whether connectome gradient structure is altered as WMH progresses and how this alteration is associated with WMH‐related cognitive decline remain unknown. Methods: A total of 758 WMH individuals completed cognitive assessment and resting‐state functional MRI (rs‐fMRI). The functional connectome gradient was reconstructed based on rs‐fMRI by using a gradient decomposition framework. Interrelations among the spatial distribution of WMH, functional gradient measures, and specific cognitive domains were explored. Results: As the WMH volume increased, the executive function (r = −0.135, p = 0.001) and information‐processing speed (r = −0.224, p = 0.001) became poorer, the gradient range (r = −0.099, p = 0.006), and variance (r = −0.121, p < 0.001) of the primary‐to‐transmodal gradient reduced. A narrower gradient range (r = 0.131, p = 0.001) and a smaller gradient variance (r = 0.136, p = 0.001) corresponded to a poorer executive function. In particular, the relationship between the frontal/occipital WMH and executive function was partly mediated by gradient range/variance of the primary‐to‐transmodal gradient. Conclusions: These findings indicated that WMH volume, the primary‐to‐transmodal gradient, and cognition were interrelated. The detrimental effect of the frontal/occipital WMH on executive function was partly mediated by the decreased differentiation of the connectivity pattern between the primary and transmodal areas. Given the multifaceted nature of digital phenomena, theorising has shifted from the correlational view toward the configurational approach, which embraces equifinality and seeks to identify conjunctural causal conditions culminating in a given outcome. Despite growing scholarly interest in the configurational approach, little is known about how moderation functions in conjunctural causation. Although there is a growing urgency for elucidating the boundary conditions of conjunctural causation to bolster the precision of theoretical explanations, a systematic approach to theorising, identifying, and interpreting moderation in configurational theories is missing. To bridge this knowledge gap, we first establish the theoretical grounding for moderation in the configurational approach. We then articulate the theoretical mechanism underlying how the interdependence of causal factors in a causal recipe is altered by the presence of a moderator. We also offer guidance on how to validate and interpret moderation in the configurational approach based on Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA). We conduct an illustrative study in the context of technostress to showcase the utility of our proposed guidelines and their value in aiding theory development. Our study hence contributes to extant literature by attesting to the significance of moderation in the configurational approach and offering recommendations for theorising such moderations. Insights from this study can be harnessed to guide future theory development by identifying and validating moderated configurational relationships, which in turn can further enhance our understanding of nuances in multifaceted digital phenomena. As a crucial task for disease diagnosis, existing semi-supervised segmentation approaches process labeled and unlabeled data separately, ignoring the relationships between them, thereby limiting further performance improvements. In this work, we introduce a transformer-based multi-task framework that concurrently leverages both labeled and unlabeled volumes by encoding shared representation patterns. We first integrate transformers into YOLOv5 to enhance segmentation capabilities and adopt a multi-task approach spanning shadow region detection and boundary localization. Subsequently, we leverage the mean teacher model to simultaneously learn from labeled and unlabeled inputs alongside orthogonal view representations, enabling our approach to harness all available annotations. Our network can improve the learning ability and attain superior performance. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the transformer-powered architecture encodes robust inter-sample relationships, unlocking substantial performance gains by capturing shared information between labeled and unlabeled data. By treating both data types concurrently and encoding their shared patterns, our framework addresses the limitations of existing semi-supervised approaches, leading to improved segmentation accuracy and robustness. 20. Urban Landscape Perception Research Based on the ERP Method: A Case Study of Jingdezhen, China.

Within the rapidly growing urban tourism industry, the development of urban landscapes plays a crucial role in shaping a city's image and competitiveness; however, standardized and mismatched landscapes often have a negative impact, highlighting the importance of assessing urban landscape perceptions. Although existing studies have discussed this through subjective questionnaires and physiological methods, the underlying neural mechanisms have not been thoroughly explored. The research focuses on Jingdezhen, a renowned historical and cultural city in China, as its case study. Utilized the event-related potential (ERP) method to explore individuals' perceptual consistency and neural activity toward different types of urban landscapes. We adopted a 2 (landscape type: historical, modern) X 2 (perceptual match: consistent, inconsistent) within-subject design while recording behavioral data and electrophysiological responses. The results showed that, under any condition, there were no significant differences in people's behavioral data. Neurophysiological results indicate that consistent perceptions of modern landscapes elicited greater P200 responses, suggesting increased attention driven by visual aesthetics and emotional activation. Under conditions of perceptual inconsistency, historical landscapes elicited higher N400 amplitudes than modern landscapes, revealing cognitive conflict and effort. This study demonstrates that P200 and N400 components are effective indicators for assessing urban perception, proving the viability of the event-related potential method in urban landscape research. Additionally, the research reveals the neural mechanisms of urban environmental perception from the early stages of attention and emotional distribution to the later stages of cognitive decision-making, which involve cognitive processes from "bottom-up" to "top-down". This study not only provides a reference for efficient design planning for those involved in urban science but also inspires the coordination between the developmental needs of historical and modern urban landscapes. 21. Roles of biochars' properties in their water-holding capacity and bound water evaporation: quantitative importance and controlling mechanism.

Important properties of biochar as an effective soil amendment are its high water-holding capacity (WHC) and inhibition of water evaporation. However, the mechanism and the importance of biochar properties in controlling its own WHC and bound water evaporation remain little known. In this study, wheat straw and pine sawdust biochars were pyrolyzed in N2-flow, CO2-flow, and air-limitation environments at 300–750 ℃, and a series of the produced biochars' properties were characterized to explore the dominant controlling factors of their WHC and bound water evaporation. The results have shown that with the increasing contents of hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen as well as such ratios as H/C, and (O + N)/C, WHC of the biochars was also increasing while the evaporation of biochar-bound water was decreasing. With an increase in the other studied factors, such as carbon content, pH, and specific surface area (SSA), WHC of the biochars was decreasing, and the evaporation of biochar-bound water was increasing. That was connected with the fact that biochar-nitrogen was mainly in pyridinic and pyrrolic forms, while oxygen was in the form of C = O and C–O bonds. These forms of nitrogen and oxygen could be the receptors of hydrogen bonds to link to H2O molecules. Aliphatic hydrogen with a weak positive charge could be a donor of hydrogen bonds to link to H2O molecules. However, high carbon content, as well as high SSA, indicated more exposed aromatic carbon (hydrophobic sites) that could suppress the binding of H2O molecules. Additionally, high pH indicated that H2O molecules were dominated by OH–, which generated strong electrostatic repulsion with the negatively charged nitrogen- and oxygen-containing groups of biochar. It was also shown that the nitrogen-containing groups played a more important role (importance – 0.31) in WHC of the biochar than other parameters, including carbon, oxygen, hydrogen, ash contents, pH, SSA (importance from 0.02 to 0.09). Nitrogen, oxygen, and carbon contents had the most important influence on the evaporation of biochar-bound water in all studied factors. Furthermore, wheat straw biochar produced at low pyrolysis temperatures in N2 atmosphere (with high nitrogen and oxygen contents) had the highest WHC and the lowest evaporation of biochar-bound water. Consequently, it can be suggested that biochar rich in nitrogen can be an effective water retention agent and can improve agricultural soil moisture. Highlights: Nitrogen-containing groups (pyridinic and pyrrolic nitrogen) played a crucial role in the improvement of biochar water-holding capacity. Nitrogen- and oxygen-containing groups inhibited the evaporation of biochar-bound water. Biochar rich in nitrogen and oxygen may be an effective water retention agent to maintain soil moisture. In China, strategic emerging industries are industries that achieve technological breakthroughs, but such industries often have the characteristics of high investment, high technology, high risk, high returns, and long research and development times. This type of industry relies heavily on national resource support from the exploration period to the development period, but its high-profit characteristics also attract policy bias from the governments of other countries internationally. Therefore, understanding the resource requirements of such industries in different periods in advance will help the government to adjust resource allocation and strategic layout through policy means. This will facilitate the smooth transition of the entire industry from the development period to the mature period, and achieve its overall sustainable development. To assist the government in achieving reasonable predictions for policy adjustments, this study focuses on the biopharmaceutical industry, which is one of the representatives of the strategic emerging industries in China's Yangtze River Delta. Considering that policies are not used in a single manner, and that the observation period needs to span the development and platform periods of the industry, the traditional Qualitative Comparative Analysis method (QCA) does not consider the analysis of data from multiple periods. Therefore, this study innovatively uses the Multi-Time Qualitative Comparative Analysis method (mtQCA), adding the dimension of time change and exploring the policy configuration logic behind the differences in local industrial innovation performance. Extracting general rules from specific policy configuration patterns is meaningful for a better analysis and resolution of complex, dynamic management issues, which will promote the sustainable development of strategic emerging industries. 23. Associations of parental age at pregnancy with adolescent cognitive development and emotional and behavioural problems: a birth cohort in rural Western China.

Background: The relationship between parental age at pregnancy and offspring development in low- and middle-income countries remains unclear. We aimed to examine the associations of parental age at pregnancy with adolescent development in rural China. Methods: We conducted a prospective birth cohort study of offspring born to pregnant women who participated in an antenatal micronutrient supplementation trial in rural Western China. Adolescent cognitive development and emotional and behavioural problems were assessed by using the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-IV and the Youth Self-Report-2001, respectively. After accounting for the possible nonlinear relationships, we examined the linear associations between parental age (in years) at pregnancy and scores of adolescent cognitive development and emotional and behavioural problems by performing generalized estimating equations. Results: Among 1897 adolescents followed from birth to early adolescence, 59.5% were male with a mean age of 11.8 (standard deviation (SD): 0.8) years. The mean ages of mothers and fathers at pregnancy were 24.6 (SD: 4.4) and 27.9 (SD: 4.1) years old, respectively. All the P values of the nonlinear terms between parental age and adolescent development in all domains were greater than 0.05. Each one-year increase in maternal age at pregnancy was associated with a 0.29-point (95% confidence interval (CI) 0.06, 0.52) increase in the full-scale intelligence quotient in early adolescence. After parental age was categorized into quartiles, the total behavioural problem scores of adolescents with fathers with an age in the fourth quartile (Q4) were 6.71 (95% CI 0.86, 12.57) points higher than those of adolescents with fathers with an age in the first quartile (Q1), with a linear trend P value of 0.01. Similarly, higher scores (worse behavioural problems) were observed for internalizing behavioural problems and other emotional and behavioural symptoms related to anxiety, withdrawal, social problems, thought problems and aggressive behaviour. Conclusions: At conception, older maternal age was independently linked to better adolescent cognitive development, whereas advanced paternal age was independently associated with a greater risk of adolescent emotional and behavioral problems. These findings suggest that public health policies targeting an optimal parental age at pregnancy should be developed in the context of offspring developmental consequences. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In order to broaden the muffler frequency band in the low-frequency range of the exhaust muffler and to achieve the purpose of broadband noise reduction, in this paper, a model of an annular connecting pipe muffler is proposed using the finite element method (FEM) to simulate the nonreflection boundary condition and to solve the transmission loss (TL). In addition, the experimental value is obtained by the spatial five-point measurement method and compared with the simulated value, and the validity and reliability of the solution model are verified. Compared with a simple expansion muffler, the average TL of the annular connecting pipe muffler is increased by 11.86 dB, and the maximum TL is increased by 18.31 dB, effectively widening the muffler frequency area, and the overall performance is effectively improved. Finally, the influence of structural factors is analyzed, including the width (W) of the annular connecting pipe, the length (L) of the annular connecting pipe, and the length ratio (m) of the front and rear chambers on the TL and on the width of the anechoic frequency band. The results reveal that the width and length of the annular connecting pipe and front-to-back cavity length ratio are the most significant factors to influence the TL, muffler frequency band, and elimination or reduction of the passing frequency, respectively. 25. Instantaneous Power Balance Algorithm for Flutter Critical Wind Speed Prediction of Bridge Girders.

Wind-induced vibration has become increasingly prominent for long-span bridges. Flutter instability, as a type of divergent vibration, is a key component in the wind resistance investigation of long-span bridges. Based on the principle of instantaneous power balance (IPB) of the flutter critical state of bridge girders, an algorithm for predicting the flutter critical wind speed of long-span bridges was proposed by utilizing a nonlinear optimization strategy. For the bending–torsional coupling two-dimensional (2-D) motion system, the contribution of the wind-induced self-excited and structural elastic forces of the 2-D bridge section to the energy of the system was revealed to be dependent on some key parameters, such as reduced frequency, wind speed, amplitude ratio, and phase lag between vertical and torsional motions. Therefore, according to the principle of IPB during the critical flutter state, the prediction of flutter onset wind velocity can be transformed into an extreme value optimization problem of the IPB objective function. The feasibility and accuracy of the IPB algorithm were verified by comparing them with those obtained from segmental model wind tunnel tests and previous 2-D flutter prediction algorithms. Compared with the traditional methods characterized by force balance, the proposed method clearly and quantitatively presents the contribution relationship among multiple self-excited aerodynamic components on the flat plate and bridge section while flutter occurs; the method first evaluates the flutter critical state as an alternative algorithm from an energy perspective. We aimed to improve the detection accuracy of laser methane sensors in expansive temperature application environments. In this paper, a large-scale dataset of the measured concentration of the sensor at different temperatures is established, and a temperature compensation model based on the ISSA-BP neural network is proposed. On the data side, a large-scale dataset of 15,810 sets of laser methane sensors with different temperatures and concentrations was established, and an Improved Isolation Forest algorithm was used to clean the large-scale data and remove the outliers in the dataset. On the modeling framework, a temperature compensation model based on the ISSA-BP neural network is proposed. The quasi-reflective learning, chameleon swarm algorithm, Lévy flight, and artificial rabbits optimization are utilized to improve the initialization of the sparrow population, explorer position, anti-predator position, and position of individual sparrows in each generation, respectively, to improve the global optimization seeking ability of the standard sparrow search algorithm. The ISSA-BP temperature compensation model far outperforms the four models, SVM, RF, BP, and PSO-BP, in model evaluation metrics such as MAE, MAPE, RMSE, and R-square for both the training and test sets. The results show that the algorithm in this paper can significantly improve the detection accuracy of the laser methane sensor under the wide temperature application environment. Ovarian tissue cryopreservation is considered to be the only means to preserve fertility for prepubertal girls and women whose cancer treatment cannot be postponed. However, ovarian tissues are inevitably damaged by oxidative stress during cryopreservation, which threatens follicle survival and development, and thus affects female fertility. Therefore, reducing tissue oxidative stress injury is one of the major challenges to achieving efficient cryopreservation of ovarian tissues, especially for whole ovaries. Here, we proposed a new method to improve the antioxidant capacity of whole ovaries during cryopreservation, static magnetic field assisted thawing. The results demonstrated that the antioxidant capacity of the ovarian tissue was significantly improved by static magnetic field treatment. In addition, ovarian tissue allograft transplantation was carried out, which successfully achieved vascular regeneration and maintained follicular development. The findings of this study not only provide a new reference for the preservation of female fertility, but also is a major step forward in the cryopreservation of tissues and organs. The construction of large and complex supramolecular architectures through self-assembly is at the forefront of contemporary coordination chemistry. Notwithstanding great success in various systems using anionic bridges (e.g., O
2- or S2- ) or organic ligands (e.g., pyridine or carboxylate ligands), the assembly of large cyanide-bridged clusters with increasing nuclearity remains a formidable synthetic challenge. In this study, it is achieved in preparing two heterometallic cyanometallate clusters with unprecedented complexity, [Fe20 Co20 ] (1) and [Fe12 Co15 ] (2), by creating the "flexibility" through a versatile ligand of bis((1H-imidazol-4-yl)methylene)hydrazine (H2 L) and low-coordinate cobalt. Complex 1 features a super-square array of four cyanide-bridged [Fe4 Co4 ] cube subunits as the corners that are interconnected by four additional [FeCo] units, resulting in a torus-shaped architecture. Complex 2 contains a lantern-like core-shell cluster with a triple-helix kernel of [Co3 L3 ] enveloped by a [Fe12 Co12 ] shell. The combined structure analysis and mass spectrometry study reveal a hierarchical assembly mechanism, which sheds new light on constructing cyanometallate nanoclusters with atomic precision. Moreover, complex 1 undergoes a thermally induced electron-transfer-coupled spin transition (ETCST) between the diamagnetic {FeII LS (µ-CN)CoIII LS } and paramagnetic {FeIII LS (µ-CN)CoII HS } configurations (LS = low spin, HS = high spin) above room temperature, representing the largest molecule displaying electron transfer and spin transition characteristic., (© 2024 The Author(s). - Abstract
Glioma, particularly glioblastomas (GBM), is incurable brain tumor. The most targeted receptor tyrosine kinase (RTKs) drugs did not bring benefit to GBM patients. The mechanism of glioma growth continues to be explored to find more effective treatment. Here, we reported that Ser/Thr protein kinase YANK2 (yet another kinase 2) is upregulated in glioma tissues and promotes the growth and proliferation of glioma in vitro and in vivo. Further, we confirmed that oncogene Fyn directly activated YANK2 through phosphorylation its Y110, and Fyn-mediated YANK2 phosphorylation at Y110 site promotes glioma growth by increasing its stability. Finally, YANK2 was proved to be a novel upstream kinase of p70S6K and promotes glioma growth by directly phosphorylating p70S6K at T389. Taken together, we found a new mTOR-independent p70S6K activation pathway, Fyn-YANK2-p70S6K, which promotes glioma growth, and YANK2 is a potential oncogene and serves as a novel therapeutic target for glioma., (© 2024. 34. Interval training has more negative effects on sleep in adolescent speed skaters: a randomized cross controlled trial.

- Abstract
Objective: Sleep is an essential component of athletic performance and recovery. This study aimed to investigate the effects of different types of high-intensity exercise on sleep parameters in adolescent speed skaters., Methods: Eighteen male adolescent speed skaters underwent aerobic capacity testing, Wingate testing, and interval training in a randomized crossover design to assess strength output, heart rate, and blood lactate levels during exercise. Sleep quality after each type of exercise was evaluated using the Firstbeat Bodyguard 3 monitor., Results: The results showed that Wingate testing and interval training led to decreased sleep duration, increased duration of stress, decreased RMSSD, and increased LF/HF ratio ( p < 0.01). Conversely, aerobic capacity testing did not significantly affect sleep ( p > 0.05). The impact of interval training on sleep parameters was more significant compared to aerobic capacity testing ( p < 0.01) and Wingate testing ( p < 0.01)., Conclusion: High-intensity anaerobic exercise has a profound impact on athletes' sleep, primarily resulting in decreased sleep duration, increased stress duration, decreased RMSSD, and increased LF/HF ratio., Competing Interests: XW is employed by Zhejiang Qiangnao Technology Co., Ltd. 35. Toward Quantized Model Parallelism for Graph-Augmented MLPs Based on Gradient-Free ADMM Framework.

- Abstract
While graph neural networks (GNNs) are popular in the deep learning community, they suffer from several challenges including over-smoothing, over-squashing, and gradient vanishing. Recently, a series of models have attempted to relieve these issues by first augmenting the node features and then imposing node-wise functions based on multilayer perceptron (MLP), which are widely referred to as graph-augmented MLP (GA-MLP) models. However, while GA-MLP models enjoy deeper architectures for better accuracy, their efficiency largely deteriorates. Moreover, popular acceleration techniques such as stochastic-version or data-parallelism cannot be effectively applied due to the dependency among samples (i.e., nodes) in graphs. To address these issues, in this article, instead of data parallelism, we propose a parallel graph deep learning Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (pdADMM-G) framework to achieve model parallelism: parameters in each layer of GA-MLP models can be updated in parallel. The extended pdADMM-G-Q algorithm reduces communication costs by introducing the quantization technique. Theoretical convergence to a (quantized) stationary point of the pdADMM-G algorithm and the pdADMM-G-Q algorithm is provided with a sublinear convergence rate o(1/k) , where k is the number of iterations. Extensive experiments demonstrate the convergence of two proposed algorithms. Moreover, they lead to a more massive speedup and better performance than all state-of-the-art comparison methods on nine benchmark datasets. Last but not least, the proposed pdADMM-G-Q algorithm reduces communication overheads by up to 45% without loss of performance. Our code is available at https://github.com/xianggebenben/pdADMM-G.

Introduction: Understanding how physicians' practice patterns change over a career is important for workforce and medical education planning. This study examined trends in self-reported practice activity among early- and later-career stage family physicians (FPs)., Methods: Data on early career FPs came from the American Board of Family Medicine's National Graduate Survey (NGS) and on later career FPs from its Continuous Certification Questionnaire (CCQ). Both cohorts could complete the Practice Demographic Survey (PDS) 3 years later. Longitudinal cohorts were from 2016 to 2019 and 2017 to 2020, respectively. All surveys included identical items on scope of practice, practice type, organization, and location. We characterized physicians as outpatient continuity only, outpatient and inpatient care (mixed practice), and no outpatient continuity (for example, hospitalist). We conducted repeated cross-sectional and longitudinal analysis of practice type., Results: Our sample included 8,492 NGS and 30,491 CCQ FPs. In both groups, the vast majority provided outpatient continuity of care (77% to 81%). Approximately 25% of NGS had a mixed practice compared with approximately 16% of the CCQ group. The percent of FPs who had a mixed practice declined in both groups (34.21% to 27.10% and 23.88% to 19.33%). In both groups, physicians with higher odds of leaving mixed practice were in metropolitan counties or changed practice types., Conclusion: Although early-career FPs more frequently reported providing both inpatient and outpatient care and serving as hospitalists compared with later-career FPs, both groups had a decline in frequency of providing mixed practice. 37. Prevalence and Predictors of Burnout Among Resident Family Physicians.

Background and Objectives: Resident burnout may affect career choices and empathy. We examined predictors of burnout among family medicine residents., Methods: We used data from the 2019-2021 American Board of Family Medicine Initial Certification Questionnaire, which is required of graduating residents. Burnout was a binary variable defined as reporting callousness or emotional exhaustion once a week or more. We evaluated associations using bivariate and multilevel multivariable regression analyses., Results: Among 11,570 residents, 36.4% (n=4,211) reported burnout. This prevalence did not significantly vary from 2019 to 2021 and was not significantly attributable to the residency program (ICC=0.07). Residents identifying as female reported higher rates of burnout (39.0% vs 33.4%, AOR=1.29 [95% CI 1.19-1.40]). Residents reporting Asian race (30.5%, AOR=0.78 [95% CI 0.70-0.86]) and Black race (32.3%, AOR=0.71 [95% CI 0.60-0.86]) reported lower odds of burnout than residents reporting White race (39.2%). We observed lower rates among international medical graduates (26.7% vs 40.3%, AOR=0.54 [95% CI 0.48-0.60]), those planning to provide outpatient continuity care (36.0% vs 38.7%, AOR=0.77 [95% CI 0.68-0.86]), and those at smaller programs (31.7% for <6 residents per class vs 36.3% for 6-10 per class vs 40.2% for >10 per class). Educational debt greater than $250,000 was associated with higher odds of burnout than no debt (AOR=1.29 [95% CI 1.15-1.45])., Conclusions: More than one-third of recent family medicine residents reported burnout. Odds of burnout varied significantly with resident and program characteristics.

38. Assessment of intestinal luminal stenosis and prediction of endoscopy passage in Crohn's disease patients using MRI.

Background: Crohn's disease (CD) is an inflammatory disease of the gastrointestinal tract. The disease behavior changes over time, and endoscopy is crucial in evaluating and monitoring the course of CD. To reduce the economic burden of patients and alleviate the discomfort associated with ineffective examination, it is necessary to fully understand the location, extent, and severity of intestinal stenosis in patients with CD before endoscopy. This study aimed to utilize imaging features of magnetic resonance enterography (MRE) to evaluate intestinal stenosis in patients with CD and to predict whether endoscopy could be passed., Methods: MRE data of patients with CD were collected, while age, gender, disease duration, and laboratory test parameters were also gathered. Two radiologists analyzed the images and assessed whether endoscopy could be passed based on the imaging performance. Imaging features of MRE were analyzed in groups based on endoscopy results., Results: The readers evaluated the imaging performance for 86 patients to determine if endoscopy could be passed and performed a consistency test (compared between two readers k = 0.812, p = 0.000). In the univariate analysis, statistical differences were observed in the degree of T1WI enhancement, thickness of the intestine wall at the stenosis, and diameter of the upstream intestine between the two groups of whether endoscopy was passed. In multivariate logistic regression, the diameter of the upstream intestine was identified to be an independent factor in predicting whether endoscopy was passed or not (OR = 3.260, p = 0.046)., Conclusions: The utilization of MRE signs for assessing the passage of an endoscope through the narrow segment revealed that the diameter of the upstream intestine emerged as an independent predictor of endoscopic passage. 39. Polar alcohol guest molecules regulate the stacking modes of 2-D MOF nanosheets.

- Abstract
The modulation of two-dimensional metal-organic framework (2-D MOF) nanosheet stacking is an effective means to improve the properties and promote the application of nanosheets in various fields. Here, we employed a series of alcohol guest molecules (MeOH, EtOH and PrOH) to modulate Zr-BTB (BTB = benzene-1,3,5-tribenzoate) nanosheets and to generate untwisted stacking. The distribution of stacking angles was statistically analyzed from high-angle annular dark-field (HAADF) and fast Fourier transform (FFT) images. The ratios of untwisted stacking were calculated, such as 77.01% untwisted stacking for MeOH, 83.45% for EtOH, and 85.61% for PrOH. The obtained untwisted Zr-BTB showed good separation abilities for different substituted benzene isomers, superior para selectivity and excellent column stability and reusability. Control experiments of 2-D Zr-TCA (TCA = 4,4',4''-tricarboxytriphenylamine) and Zr-TATB (TATB = 4,4',4''-(1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6-triyl)tribenzoic acid) nanosheets with similar pore sizes and stronger polarity regulated by the alcohol guests exhibited moderate separation performance. The electron microscopy images revealed that polar alcohol regulation dominantly generated the twisted stacking of Zr-TCA and Zr-TATB with various Moiré patterns. 40. Associations between gestational weight gain under different guidelines and adverse birth outcomes: A secondary analysis of a randomized controlled trial in rural western China.

- Abstract
Several gestational weight gain (GWG) guidelines have been established based on monocenter or multicenter researches. We aimed to examine the associations between categories of GWG under the Institute of Medicine (IOM) recommendation guideline, the Chinese National Health Commission (NHC) guideline, and weight-gain-for-gestational-age z-scores derived from the INTERGROWTH-21st Project and adverse birth outcomes. We used data from an antenatal micronutrient supplementation trial in rural western China between 2002 and 2006. Maternal weekly average GWG during the second and third trimesters was calculated and classified into inadequate, adequate and excessive GWG according to the IOM and NHC, respectively. Weight-gain-for-gestational-age z-scores derived from the INTERGROWTH-21st Project were grouped into three subgroups using two approaches: z-score percentile<25th, 25th to 75th, >75th and z-score <-1, -1 to 1, >1 SD. Infant birth weight and gestational age were measured using standard approaches. Generalized linear model with binomial family and logit link was applied to estimate the odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidential intervals (CI) for GWG categories and adverse birth outcomes. Among 1,239 women with normal weight (18.5 kg/m2 to 23.9 kg/m2) during early pregnancy, 18.0% and 34.2% were classified as adequate GWG according to IOM and NHC, respectively. Less than half of Chinese women reached optimal GWG by any recommendation guideline. According to NHC, excessive GWG showed a significant association with macrosomia (OR 3.75, 95% CI 1.03, 13.74), large-for-gestation-age (LGA) (OR 2.12, 95% CI 1.01, 4.45), and inadequate GWG was associated with post-term birth (OR 2.25, 95% CI 1.21, 4.16), compared with adequate GWG. Inappropriate GWG was associated with adverse birth outcomes even among women with normal weight during early pregnancy. The monitoring and interventions of weight status during pregnancy, especially for the second and third trimesters, are of great public health importance for optimal birth outcomes.
