Compatible nanoparticle properties in photocatalytic applications are crucial. Within the scope of this investigation, we constructed a nanocomposite of ZnO and CuCo 2 O 4 (ZnO/CuCo 2 O 4) to boost the photocatalytic properties of ZnO by constructing ZnO/CuCo 2 O 4 nanocomposite using Artocarpus altili s leaves extracts (AALE). Essential secondary metabolites contribute to the origin of weak bases and capping agents to form the spherical shape of ZnO/CuCo 2 O 4. X-ray diffractometry (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, ultraviolet–visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV–Vis DRS), scanning electron microscope - energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX) are some of the techniques that are utilized for the validation of nanocomposite properties, such as vibrational, crystallinity, band gap, morphology, particle size, and elemental composition. The formation of ZnO/CuCo 2 O 4 decreased the bandgap energy and enhanced the photocatalytic performance by 93.01 % under visible light irradiation for 2 h. ZnO/CuCo 2 O 4 followed pseudo-second-order kinetic in the photodegradation of malachite green (MG). It is noted that the increase in photocatalytic characteristics can be brought about by the narrower band gap of ZnO and increased kinetic rate toward dye degradation. Radical species analysis was of utmost importance in acknowledging that holes (h+) were the most crucial species that were indispensable to MG degradation. The photodegradation efficiency of the recycled catalyst only declines by approximately 12 % after five cycles of consumption. Orthorhombic stable phase of MoO 3 and Ni-doped MoO 3 with different weight percentages (2 %,5 % and 10 %) were successfully synthesized by following a surfactant free acid-assisted chemical co-precipitation method under optimized experimental conditions. Structural and compositional investigation using tools like X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy verified the orthorhombic phase and structure quality of the prepared samples with findings from Raman consistent with those from XRD. The optical characteristics analysed using UV–Vis diffused reflectance spectroscopy and photoluminescence spectroscopy revealed that Ni2+ may act as a shallow acceptor at lower doping concentrations. It was observed that the structure and characteristics of MoO 3 dramatically altered as a function of Ni doping concentration, suggesting that Ni ions migrated from lattice substitution to grain boundaries. Images from field emission scanning electron microscope revealed the formation of layer-by-layer growth of micro-plate like morphology of the prepared samples with increasing agglomeration influenced by grain boundaries. EDAX spectrum confirmed the presence of Mo, O and Ni and their compositional proportion. Based on the properties analysed, the photocatalytic properties of the synthesized samples were analysed for degradation of Alizarin Red dye and kinetic studies were conducted. The optical characterization revealed defect induced emissions and the feasibility of MoO 3 acting as a photodetector was studied along with Ni-doping proving the versatility of material for multifunctional applications. Mullite ceramic membrane is considered as microfiltration membrane suitable for oil-water (O/W) emulsion wastewater treatment. This study presented a facile sintering approach to prepare mullite ceramic membrane from coal fly ash. Various characterization techniques, such as X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), shrinkage and apparent porosity, bending strength etc. were used to reveal the effect of MoO 3 addition and sintering temperature on ceramic membrane. At sintering temperature 1300 °C, adding 5 wt% MoO 3 , the apparent porosity of membrane is 46.04%, the bending strength is 32.11 MPa, and the average pore size is 0.190 μm. Finally, whisker mullite ceramic membranes were applied for deep treatment of oily wastewater. As-synthesized ceramic membrane exhibits excellent permeate flux (391.10 L·m−2·h−1) and oil rejection (97%) for separation of O/W emulsion. The membrane fouling is mainly controlled by cake filtration mechanism. Meanwhile, the ceramic membranes show good regeneration performance and acid and alkali resistance. The studies presented in this paper constitute the first scientific attempt to interpret the manner whereby notched implements made of scapulae were made and used. These implements have been found at numerous European and non-European sites, usually dated to the Neolithic–Early Iron Age (predominantly the Early Bronze Age). Research has examined these products since the beginning of the 20th century, resulting in the development of several hypotheses regarding their functions. This paper presents the analysis results of 41 such artefacts from the early Bronze Age defensive settlement in Bruszczewo (central Poland). This is the largest collection of these products from a single site worldwide. The artefacts were subjected to multi-aspect traceological tests (both technological and functional) using optical, metallographic, and scanning electron microscopes. The residues identified on their surfaces were analysed using optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-rays spectroscopy. Moreover, the studies reported herein involved extensive experimental research. Consequently, the chain of operations followed in producing these tools was reconstructed and the use-wear traces present on their surfaces were classified; it was determined that these tools were most likely used for threshing cereals but might also have been used for threshing legumes. This is the first proof of threshing in central Europe in the Early Bronze Age and the first scientifically substantiated hypothesis regarding the function of these important artefacts. Introduction: Internal erosion triggered by water pipeline leaks seriously threatens the stability of the urban ground. Hangzhou, a city in Zhejiang Province, China, is facing critical challenges due to urban ground collapse (UGC) caused by internal erosion. However, there is a lack of research on the prevention of UGC by improving the internal erodibility of underground soil. Addressing this issue is of utmost importance to ensure the city's stability and safety. This paper proposes to improve the internal erodibility of typical sandy silt soils with chemical stabilisers. Methods: The effects of three chemical stabilisers, lignosulphonate (LS), lime (LI), and lignin fibre (LF), on the critical shear stress (rc) and erosion coefficient (kd) of sandy silt soils were investigated, which from Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China, by the hole erosion test (HET) at different mixing amounts and at different conservation times. Results: The findings indicate that LF mainly improves the erosion resistance of sandy silt by increasing rc, and the maximum increase is 2.38 times; LI mainly improves the erosion resistance by decreasing kd, and the maximum decrease is 2.18 times. After adding LS, rc and kd did not change significantly. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) test revealed that the inclusion of LF led to the formation of larger agglomerates in the sandy silt soil. The microstructure of sandy silt soil remained dispersed even after adding LS. Various chemical stabilisers used to improve sandy silt soils exhibited distinct erosion mechanisms. Sandy silt soils improved with LF exfoliated into agglomerates, displaying high resistance to erosion. On the other hand, the sandy silt treated with LF still lacks a protective layer and shows minimal improvements in its ability to withstand erosion. In contrast, the LS-amended sandy silt remains stripped with individual soil particles with insignificant changes in erosion resistance. Silver nanowires (AgNWs) have excellent flexibility, unique optical transmittance and high conductivity. The polyol process is appropriate for preparing AgNWs due to its simplicity, effectiveness, low cost, and high yield. This work aims to investigate the effect of preparation parameters of the polyol process on the silver nanowires properties. The parameters include the controlling agent, molecular weight of the polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), the temperature, and the reducing agent. The amount of silver nanoparticles formed during preparation was used to determine the optimum preparation conditions. The transmission electron microscope (TEM) images showed minimal amount of Ag nanoparticles when using mixed molecular weight of PVP-40K, and PVP-1.3M at 150 °C with the assistance of copper chloride as a controlling agent. The prepared AgNWs had an average length of 3.7 µm and aspect ratio of 15.3. The fabricated electrodes were characterized using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and four probe resistivity measurements. The electrical measurement of the AgNWs electrodes indicated that the surfactant thickness is a critical parameter in having low sheet resistance electrodes. Also, the optical transmission was affected by the amount of nanoparticles. Single-layer isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) are one of the most popular self-healing microcapsules but suffers from low shell strength, poor heat resistance, stability and aging properties. In this paper, IPDI microcapsules were encapsulated into double-layer phenolic (PF)/polyurethane (PU) by a two-step process involving interfacial polymerization and in-situ polymerization. The prepared microcapsule composites were comprehensively characterized for their physical and chemical properties using optical microanalysis, scanning electron microscope, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis and depth-sensing indentation analysis. Compared with the single-layer PU-IPDI microcapsule counterpart, the mechanical performance, thermal resistance, aging property and environmental stability of double-layer PF/PU-IPDI microcapsules were significantly improved. The epoxy coating was enhanced with the incorporation of 10 wt.% PF/PU-IPDI microcapsules, whose self-healing performance was evaluated by scratch corrosion test. The results demonstrated successful repair of coating scratches, along with the absence of corrosion on the coated steel substrate soaked in a 10 wt.% NaCl solution for 7 days. By comparing the tensile strength of epoxy coating before and after crack formation, it could be found that the self-healing efficiency was 57.9% when loaded with 10 wt.% of PF/PU-IPDI microcapsules in coating. This study highlights that the rational design of double-layer microcapsules integrated into the epoxy coating matrix could provide excellent anti-corrosion and self-healing properties. Background: The integration of stem cells, signaling molecules, and biomaterial scaffolds is fundamental for the successful engineering of functional bone tissue. Currently, the development of composite scaffolds has emerged as an attractive approach to meet the criteria of ideal scaffolds utilized in bone tissue engineering (BTE) for facilitating bone regeneration in bone defects. Recently, the incorporation of polycaprolactone (PCL) with hydroxyapatite (HA) has been developed as one of the suitable substitutes for BTE applications owing to their promising osteogenic properties. In this study, a three-dimensional (3D) scaffold composed of PCL integrated with HA (PCL/HA) was prepared and assessed for its ability to support osteogenesis in vitro. Furthermore, this scaffold was evaluated explicitly for its efficacy in promoting the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of canine bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (cBM-MSCs) to fill the knowledge gap regarding the use of composite scaffolds for BTE in the veterinary orthopedics field. Results: Our findings indicate that the PCL/HA scaffolds substantially supported the proliferation of cBM-MSCs. Notably, the group subjected to osteogenic induction exhibited a markedly upregulated expression of the osteogenic gene osterix (OSX) compared to the control group. Additionally, the construction of 3D scaffold constructs with differentiated cells and an extracellular matrix (ECM) was successfully imaged using scanning electron microscopy. Elemental analysis using a scanning electron microscope coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy confirmed that these constructs possessed the mineral content of bone-like compositions, particularly the presence of calcium and phosphorus. Conclusions: This research highlights the synergistic potential of PCL/HA scaffolds in concert with cBM-MSCs, presenting a multidisciplinary approach to scaffold fabrication that effectively regulates cell proliferation and osteogenic differentiation. Future in vivo studies focusing on the repair and regeneration of bone defects are warranted to further explore the regenerative capacity of these constructs, with the ultimate goal of assessing their potential in veterinary clinical applications. Vector-borne diseases resulted into several cases of human morbidity and mortality over the years and among them is filariasis, caused by the mosquito Culex quinquefasciatus. Developing novel strategies for mosquito control without jeopardizing the environmental conditions has always been a topic of discussion and research. Integrated Vector Management (IVM) emphasizes a comprehensive approach and use of a range of strategies for vector control. Recent research evaluated the use of two entomopathogenic fungi; Beauveria bassiana and Lecanicillium lecanii in IVM, which can serve as potential organic insecticide for mosquito population control. However, their combined efficacy has not yet been evaluated against mosquito control in prior research and a gap of knowledge is still existing. So, this research was an attempt to bridge up the knowledge gap by (1) Assessing the combined efficacy of Beauveria bassiana and Lecanicillium lecanii on Culex quinquefasciatus (2) To investigate the sub-lethal concentration (LC50) of the combined fungal concentration and (3) To examine the post-mortem effects caused by the combined fungal concentration under Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The larval pathogenicity assay was performed on 4th instar C. quinquefasciatus larvae. Individual processed fungal solution of B. bassiana and L. lecanii were procured and to test the combined efficacy, the two solutions were mixed in equal proportions. To evaluate the sub-lethal concentration (LC50), different concentrations of the combined fungal solution were prepared by serial dilations. The mortality was recorded after 24 hours for each concentration. Upon treatment and evaluation, The LC50 values of B. bassiana and L. lecanii were 0.25 x 104 spores/ml and 0.12 x 104 spores/ml respectively and the combined fungal concentration was 0.06 x 103 spores/ml. This clearly indicated that the combined efficacy of the fungi is more significant. Further, SEM analysis revealed morphological deformities and extensive body perforations upon combined fungal treatment. Thorium biosorption by a green microalga, Chlorella Vulgaris, was studied in a stirred batch reactor to investigate the effect of initial solution pH, metal ion concentration, biomass dosage, contact time, kinetics, equilibrium and thermodynamics of uptake. The green microalgae showed the highest Th adsorption capacity at 45 °C for the solution with a thorium concentration of 350 mg L−1 and initial pH of 4. The amount of uptake raised from 84 to 104 mg g−1 as the temperature increased from 15 to 45 °C for an initial metal concentration of 75 mg L−1 at pH 4. Transformation Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) was employed to characterize the vibrational frequency changes for peaks related to surface functional groups. Also, the scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) were used to determine the morphological changes and elemental analysis of the biosorbent before and after the sorption process. The Langmuir isotherm was in perfect agreement with the equilibrium empirical data of thorium biosorption and the highest sorption capacity of the Chlorella Vulgaris microalgae was determined as 185.19 mg g−1. Also, the results of kinetic studies show that the thorium biosorption process follows a pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Reactor pressure vessel (RPV) studs are key components of nuclear reactors, and their connection with flange ensures the sealing of the RPV under high-pressure and high-temperature conditions. In the present work, the external threads of the RPV stud were prepared by triaxial rolling, and the texture evolution of the external thread root material of an RPV stud was predicted by finite element analysis coupled with viscoplastic self-consistent simulations. The microstructure of the external thread root material of RPV stud was characterized by scanning electron microscope and electron back-scattered diffraction. The installation characteristics of the turned and rolled parts of the RPV stud were tested by installation and pretightening tests. It was found that the dynamic recrystallization at the external thread root formed ultrafine tempered sorbite grains, high-angle grain boundaries (47%), and strong {111} <110> and {111} <112> textures. In the installation and pretightening test, the residual elongation of rolled parts was reduced by 6% under the same loading pressure. The triaxial rolling process distributed the microstructure of the external thread root of the RPV stud in a gradient manner, resulting in improved stud installation characteristics. In this study, we present the fabrication of large single-domain ternary (Sm,Eu,Gd)Ba 2 Cu 3 O 7-y bulk superconductor with enhanced superconducting properties using various REBa 2 Cu 3 O y (RE-123) as a liquid source via the top-seeded infiltration growth process (TSIG) in air. We employed a 1:1 ratio of REBa 2 Cu 3 O y (RE = Sm, Gd, Y and Er) and Ba 3 Cu 5 O 8 as a liquid source for fabrication. Impressively, all the obtained bulk samples exhibited a superconducting transition temperature T (c, onset) above 94 K. However, the bulk sample fabricated using Y-123 + Ba 3 Cu 5 O 8 as a liquid source demonstrated a T (c, onset) of 94.53 K, with a 40.14 % improvement in transition width (Δ T c) and at 77 K the bulk recorded a self-field critical current density (J c) value of 44.73 kA/cm2 & 10.62 kA/cm2 at 1T resulting in a remarkable 93.08 % improvement in self-field J c compared to the bulk sample fabricated using Er-123 + Ba 3 Cu 5 O 8. Microstructural analysis using a scanning electron microscope revealed a significant reduction in the mean size of secondary (211) phase particles, a significant reduction of 38.41 % is observed for the Y-123 + Ba 3 Cu 5 O 8 employed sample. The solubility/degradability of bioactive glasses play crucial role in bone tissue engineering applications owing to the release of ions from their structure, which exert therapeutic effects on tissues. The present study evaluates the findings of a detailed investigation on the main features and solubility behaviors of newly formulated Nb incorporated glasses (Nb-BGs). New glass formulation in SiO 2 –CaO–Na 2 O–P 2 O 5 –CaF 2 –SrO–xNb 2 O 5 (x: 0.0, 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 mol. %) system was successfully synthesized by melt-quenching technique. Glass composition was verified with Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence spectrometer analysis and its amorphous nature, functional groups of the matrix and morphological features were identified via X-Ray diffraction analyses, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy and Scanning Electron Microscope analysis, respectively. Network connectivity (NC) of the Nb-BGs was assessed with respect to the role of Nb 2 O 5 in the glass matrix as network former, modifier, or both. In order to evaluate the in vitro solubility of Nb-BGs, released concentrations of particular ions from the glass compositions were determined at certain time points and comprehensively discussed with several mathematical models such as zero-order, first-order, second-order, Higuchi, and Korsmeyer-Peppas for the first time. Results showed that the incorporation of Nb 2 O 5 (up to 1.5 mol. %) increased the density, oxygen density as well as NC values of newly formulated glasses. Si, Na and Ca ions which play a main role in well-defined Hench's mechanism followed mostly second-order release kinetics for all glasses in the mathematical models studied. When the Nb content increase (to 1.5 mol. %) in glass composition, the release mechanism of Si ion according to Korsmeyer-Peppas model shifts from the diffusion mechanism to an erosion-dominant release mechanism. The crystal structure of La 0.7 Sr 0.3 Mn 1−x Al x O 3 (LSMAO) with x = 0,0.025,0.05,0.075 and 0.10 ceramics prepared by the Sol-gel method were investigated by employing the XRD technique. The XRD patterns analysis by employing the Rietveld analysis confirms the nonexistence of secondary crystal phase/s and, materials are crystallized to the R-3c(167) space group. The microstructural properties were studied using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The dielectric property, AC conductivity, complex impedance spectroscopy and complex electrical modulus have been studied over a wide range of frequencies (103 Hz–107 Hz) at different temperatures from 313K to 393K. The Non-Debye type relaxation process has been observed in synthesized samples confirmed from the Nyquist plot. The Cole-Cole plots were employed to estimate the individual grain and grain boundary contributions. The Maxwell-Wagner (MW) polarization model provides an explanation for the greater values of dielectric constant at the lower frequencies. Background: Brinzolamide (BRI) suspensions are used for the treatment of glaucoma; however, sufficient drug delivery to the target tissue after eye drop administration is hampered by poor solubility. To address this issue, we focused on nanocrystal technology, which is expected to improve the bioavailability of poor-solubility drugs, and investigated the effect of BRI nanocrystal formulations on corneal permeability and intraocular pressure (IOP)-reducing effect. Methods: BRI nanocrystal formulations were prepared by the wet-milling method with beads and additives. The particle size was measured by NANOSIGHT LM10, and the morphology was determined using a scanning probe microscope (SPM-9700) and a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Corneal permeability was evaluated in vitro using a Franz diffusion cell with rat corneas and in vivo using rabbits, and the IOP-reducing effect was investigated using a rabbit hypertensive model. Results: The particle size range for prepared BRI nanocrystal formulation was from 50 to 300 nm and the mean particle size was 135 ± 4 nm. The morphology was crystalline, and the nanoparticles were uniformly dispersed. In the corneal permeability study, BRI nanocrystallization exhibited higher corneal permeability than non-milled formulations. This result may be attributed to the increased solubility of BRI by nanocrystallization and the induction of energy-dependent endocytosis by the attachment of BRI nanoparticles to the cell membrane. Furthermore, the addition of tyloxapol to BRI nanocrystal formulation further improved the intraocular penetration of BRI and showed a stronger IOP-reducing effect than the commercial product. Conclusions: The combination of BRI nanocrystallization and tyloxapol is expected to be highly effective in glaucoma treatment and a useful tool for new ophthalmic drug delivery. Two types of cells targeting Peptides, TAMS-1 (CSPGAKVRCY {Lys (Biotin)}) and MDSC-peptide (Biotin {PEG4}-MEWSLEKGYTIK), were synthesized for targeting CD206 M2 macrophage and myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSC), respectively. Each peptide was coaxially electro sprayed where PCL (Polycaprolactone) is the core, and the peptide is the sheath to create a PCL nanoparticle with peptides. Electro spraying parameters included applying a voltage of 44 kV, humidity between 35–44%, tip to collector distance at 160 mm, core flow rate of 0.5 ml/hr, and a sheath flow rate of 0.7 ml/hr. UV–VIS (Ultraviolet–Visible) spectrometry, SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) imaging, and in vivo biodistribution techniques were used to study the morphology and performance of the PCL-peptide nanoparticles. Peak absorbance values for PCL were found at around 275 nm. Peptides absorbance value was observed between 230 and 250 nm. Scanning Electron Microscope image shows nanoparticles as small as 100 nm and agglomerates as large as 1 µm. In-vivo biodistribution of PCL and CD206 M2 macrophage targeting peptide (TAMS-1) nanoparticles after intravenous injection in the tumor mice model showed uptake to the tumors. On the other hand, MDSC peptide did not show any uptake to the site of tumors. Most activity is shown in the intestine indicating excretion of the agents through the hepato-biliary system. Organic dyestuff are mostly toxic compounds that pose serious dangers to the environment. Adsorption using low-cost adsorbents is the most favorable method for its economic aspects. Recently, geopolymers have been introduced as an effective adsorbent for dyes and heavy metals. In this investigation, the synthesis of geopolymers from fired brick waste (Homra) was studied with full characterization using X-ray Diffraction, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller, Energy dispersive X-ray, Scanning electron microscope tests and Transmission electron microscopy. The synthesized nano-Homra geopolymer (NHGP) was then subjected to the removal of one of the most used basic dyes, Methylene Blue (MB). Adsorption optimization was applied using Response surface methodology to study dye adsorption by the synthesized nano-geopolymer. The independent variables studied were: temperature, contact time, and concentration of dye in the elimination process, which were varied in the range of (25–60 ℃), (10–180 min), and (20–300 mg/L) respectively. The results obtained from ANOVA indicated that the maximum removal efficiency of 95% and adsorption capacity of 80.65 mg/g at a temperature of 59 ℃, contact time of 163 min, and an initial concentration of 254 mg/L. The results showed that the data obtained from the adsorption of MB onto NHGP was compatible with the Pseudo second order (R2 = 0.9838) and Langmuir isotherm model (R2 = 0.9882). Fucosterols have been widely studied for their antioxidant, anticancer, and anti-inflammatory properties. However, they have not yet been studied in the field of dentistry. This study aimed to determine whether pretreatment of dentin with fucosterol before resin restoration enhances bond stability in resin-dentin hybrid layers. After applying 0.1, 0.5, and 1.0 wt% fucosterol to demineralized dentin, microtensile bond strength (MTBS) and nanoleakage tests were performed before and after collagenase aging, and the surface was observed using scanning electron microscope (SEM). The fucosterol-treated group showed better bond strength and less nanoleakage both before and after collagenase aging, and the corresponding structures were confirmed using SEM. MMP zymography confirmed that the activity of MMPs was relatively low along the concentration gradient of fucosterol, and the FTIR analysis confirmed the production of collagen crosslinks. In addition, fucosterol exhibits cytotoxicity against Streptococcus mutans, the main cause of dental decay. The results of this study suggest that fucosterol pretreatment improves bond strength and reduces nanoleakage at the resin-dentin interface, possibly through a mechanism involving collagen cross-link formation via the inhibition of endogenous and exogenous MMP activity. Background: Toxoplasmosis, caused by Toxoplasma gondii , poses serious health issues for humans and animals. Individuals with impaired immune systems are more susceptible to severe toxoplasmosis. Pregnant women infected by T. gondii can face the possibility of birth defects and miscarriages. While pyrimethamine and sulfadiazine are commonly used drugs in clinical practice, concerns over their side effects and resistance are on the rise. A spider peptide XYP1 isolated from Lycosa coelestis had potent anti-T. gondii effects, but it had a high synthesis cost and strong cytotoxicity. Methods: This study intended to modify XYP1 for producing derived peptides via amino acid truncation and substitution. The anti-T. gondii effect was evaluated by trypan blue staining assay and killing experiment of RH strain tachyzoites. The CCK8 and hemolysis assays were used to compare their safeties. The morphological changes of T. gondii were observed by scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope. In addition, the mechanism of XYP1 against T. gondii through RNA-sequencing was further explored. Results: In vivo and in vitro experiments revealed that XYP1-18 and XYP1-18-1 had excellent anti-T. gondii activity with lower cytotoxicity and hemolysis activity than XYP1. XYP1, XYP1-18, and XYP1-18-1 were able to disrupt the surface membrane integrity of T. gondii tachyzoites, forming pores and causing the disruption of organelles. Furthermore, RNA-sequencing analysis indicated that XYP1 could stimulate the host immune response to effectively eliminate T. gondii and lessen the host's inflammatory reaction. Conclusions: XYP1-18 had lower cytotoxicity and hemolysis activity than XYP1, as well as significantly extending the survival time of the mice. XYP1 played a role in host inflammation and immune responses, revealing its potential mechanism. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) is a crucial tool for studying microstructures of ceramic materials. However, the current practice heavily relies on manual efforts to extract porosity from SEM images. To address this issue, we propose PSTNet (Pyramid Segmentation Transformer Net) for grain and pore segmentation in SEM images, which merges multi-scale feature maps through operations like recombination and upsampling to predict and generate segmentation maps. These maps are used to predict the corresponding porosity at ceramic grain boundaries. To increase segmentation accuracy and minimize loss, we employ several strategies. (1) We train the micro-pore detection and segmentation model using publicly available Al2O3 and custom Y2O3 ceramic SEM images. We calculate the pixel percentage of segmented pores in SEM images to determine the surface porosity at the corresponding locations. (2) Utilizing high-temperature hot pressing sintering, we prepared and captured scanning electron microscope images of Y2O3 ceramics, with which a Y2O3 ceramic dataset was constructed through preprocessing and annotation. (3) We employed segmentation penalty cross-entropy loss, smooth L1 loss, and structural similarity (SSIM) loss as the constituent terms of a joint loss function. The segmentation penalty cross-entropy loss helps suppress segmentation loss bias, smooth L1 loss is utilized to reduce noise in images, and incorporating structural similarity into the loss function computation guides the model to better learn structural features of images, significantly improving the accuracy and robustness of semantic segmentation. (4) In the decoder stage, we utilized an improved version of the multi-head attention mechanism (MHA) for feature fusion, leading to a significant enhancement in model performance. Our model training is based on publicly available laser-sintered Al2O3 ceramic datasets and self-made high-temperature hot-pressed sintered Y2O3 ceramic datasets, and validation has been completed. Our Pix Acc score improves over the baseline by 12.2%, 86.52 vs. 76.01, and the mIoU score improves from by 25.5%, 69.10 vs. 51.49. Prelithiation technology has emerged as an enabling approach towards the practical deployment of Silicon negative electrode‐based Li‐Ion batteries, leading to significant advancement in initial Coulombic efficiency (ICE), energy density and cycle life. In this study, an electrochemical prelithiation has been applied to Multi‐Walled Carbon Nanotubes (MWCNTs)‐containing Silicon‐rich Silicon/Graphite‐based negative electrode, eliminating almost ~51.03 % of its first irreversible capacity losses. In contrast, a benchmarking negative electrode utilizing Carbon black (Super P) as conductive additive is found to demonstrate a reduction of ~39.55 % after prelithiation, which is considerably lower compared to MWCNTs‐based electrode system. Post‐mortem analysis using Energy‐dispersive X‐ray (EDX) analysis with a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Attenuated Total Reflection Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (ATR‐FTIR) shows disparities between pristine‐cycled and prelithiated‐cycled negative electrodes. Core–shell nanostructures are powerful platforms for the development of novel nanoscale drug delivery systems with sustained drug release profiles. Coaxial electrospinning is facile and convenient for creating medicated core–shell nanostructures with elaborate designs with which the sustained-release behaviors of drug molecules can be intentionally adjusted. With resveratrol (RES) as a model for a poorly water-soluble drug and cellulose acetate (CA) and PVP as polymeric carriers, a brand-new electrospun core–shell nanostructure was fabricated in this study. The guest RES and the host CA molecules were designed to have a reverse gradient distribution within the core–shell nanostructures. Scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope evaluations verified that these nanofibers had linear morphologies, without beads or spindles, and an obvious core–shell double-chamber structure. The X-ray diffraction patterns and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic results indicated that the involved components were highly compatible and presented in an amorphous molecular distribution state. In vitro dissolution tests verified that the new core–shell structures were able to prevent the initial burst release, extend the continuous-release time period, and reduce the negative tailing-off release effect, thus ensuring a better sustained-release profile than the traditional blended drug-loaded nanofibers. The mechanism underlying the influence of the new core–shell structure with an RES/CA reverse gradient distribution on the behaviors of RES release is proposed. Based on this proof-of-concept demonstration, a series of advanced functional nanomaterials can be similarly developed based on the gradient distributions of functional molecules within electrospun multi-chamber nanostructures. Microwave-assisted ignition is an emerging high-performance ignition method with promising future applications in aerospace. In this work, based on a rectangular waveguide resonant cavity test bed, the effects of two parameters (material and diameter) of the microwave antenna on the ignition and combustion characteristics of ADN-based liquid propellant droplets were investigated using experimental methods. A high-speed camera was used to record the droplet combustion process in the combustion chamber, the effect of the microwave antenna on the propellant combustion response was analyzed based on the emission spectroscopy method, and finally, the loss of the microwave antenna was evaluated using a scanning electron microscope. The experimental results show that the droplet has the lowest critical ignition power (179 W) when the material of the microwave antenna is tungsten, but the ignition delay time is higher than that of copper. A finer diameter of microwave antenna is more favorable for plasma generation. At a microwave power of 260 W, the ignition delay time of the droplet with a microwave antenna diameter of 0.3 mm is 100 ms lower than that of 0.8 mm, which is about 37.5%. In addition, this study points out the mechanism of microwave discharge in the droplet combustion process. The metallic microwave antenna not only collects the electrons escaping from the gas discharge, but also generates a large amount of metallic vapor, which provides charged particles to the plasma. This study aims to compare the effects of three calcium compounds on the workability, setting time and mechanical properties of red mud (RM)–blast furnace slag (BFS)-based geopolymers. The crystalline phase, hydration process and microstructure of RM-BFS-based geopolymers were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), heat evolution, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and scanning electron microscope (SEM) tests. The results showed that an appropriate amount of calcium compounds can improve the flowability and compressive strength of the geopolymers, but the excessiveness causes a decrease in strength due to rapid hardening. Other than calcium carbonate, both calcium oxide and calcium chloride played important roles in accelerating the setting times of RM-BFS-based geopolymers. The acceleration in the setting times of geopolymers could be attributed to the calcium hydroxide produced by the dissolution of the calcium compounds, which also provides nucleation sites for the geopolymerization reaction. Aluminum nanoparticles (nAl) have received sustained interest due to their higher reactivity than micron aluminum particles (mAl). However, in practice, the densities of explosive formulations with nAl are far smaller than those with mAl, which greatly undercuts the energy release performance. To take advantages of both kinds of Al particles, in situ integration of mAl@nAl composites was proposed and evaluated. The mAl@nAl composites were prepared by in situ electrical explosion of Al wire. Their morphology, density, and specific surface area (SSA) were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), densimetry, and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET), respectively. SEM showed that nAl uniformly adhered to the surface of mAl. With the increase in voltage, the average diameter and density of the composites decreased, but the SSA of the composites increased. And the largest density of the composites was 1.13 g/cm3, comparable to that of the commercial graded Al product (1.25 g/cm3). Meanwhile, the highest SSA of the composites was 12.1192 m2/g. In addition, the combustion efficiency of mAl@nAl composites at 20 kV was 8.26% higher than that of physically graded counterparts. The constant-volume combustion test under zero oxygen balance revealed that the pressurization rate and peak pressure of mAl@nAl composites prepared at 20 kV were the highest of all. Furthermore, constant-volume combustion under constant heat showed that the combustion temperatures of mAl@nAl composites were 1.15–1.45 times higher than those of physically graded counterparts. This study investigates the potential use of Yellow River sand (YRS) sourced from the lower reaches of the Yellow River in China as a sustainable and cost-effective substitute for quartz sand in Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC). With an annual accumulation of approximately 400 million tons in this region, YRS presents a substantial resource. ECC specimens with 100% YRS replacement with quartz sand were subjected to various curing methods: natural, steam, standard, and sprinkler. Extensive mechanical testing including flexural, compressive, uniaxial tensile, and four-point flexural tests was conducted. Additionally, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry (MIP) analyses investigated microscopic mechanisms influencing macroscopic mechanical properties. Finally, the mechanical properties of the YRS-ECC test block after 14 days of standard curing and the traditional sand ECC test block were compared and analyzed. The results indicate that ECC specimens with 100% YRS substitution under natural curing show an optimal ultimate tensile strain of more than 4%, providing the best resistance to the reduction in ultimate flexural load and deflection due to aging. Steam curing enhances flexural and compressive strength, achieving an ultimate flexural load of 5 kN and a maximum deflection of 4.42 mm at 90 days. SEM analysis revealed lower C-S-H gel density under natural curing and higher under steam curing, enhancing fiber pull-out in steam-cured specimens. The MIP tests demonstrated that natural curing had the highest porosity (32.86%) and average pore size (51.69 nm), whereas steam curing resulted in the smallest average pore size, with 44% of pores under 50 nm. Compared with traditional sand, it is found that the ultimate bending load and deflection of YRS-ECC are 5.7% and 9.4% higher than those of traditional sand ECC, respectively, and its ultimate tensile strength and strain are also improved. These findings highlight YRS as a sustainable alternative to natural sand in ECC, with natural curing proving the most effective for superior mechanical performance, including tensile strain, crack resistance, and durability. The erosion of surface pipelines induced by proppant flowback during shale gas production is significant. The surface pipelines in a shale gas field in the Sichuan Basin experienced perforation failures after only five months of service. To investigate the erosion features of L360N, coatings, and ceramics and optimize the selection of two protective materials, a gas–solid two-phase flow jet erosion experimental device was used to explore the erosion resistance of L360N, coatings, and ceramics under different impact velocities (15 m/s, 20 m/s, and 30 m/s). An energy dispersive spectroscope, a scanning electron microscope, and a laser confocal microscope were employed to analyze erosion morphologies. With the increase in flow velocity, the erosion depth and erosion rate of L360N, coating, and ceramic increased and peaked under an impact velocity of 30 m/s. The maximum erosion rate and maximum erosion depth of L360N were, respectively, 0.0350 mg/g and 37.5365 µm. Its primary material removal mechanism was the plowing of solid particles, and microcracks were distributed on the material surface under high flow velocities. The maximum erosion rate and maximum erosion depth of the coating were, respectively, 0.0217 mg/g and 18.9964 µm. The detachment of matrix caused by plowing is the main material removal mechanism. The maximum erosion rate and maximum erosion depth of ceramics were, respectively, 0.0108 mg/g and 12.4856 µm. The erosion mechanisms were micro-cutting and plowing. Under different particle impact velocities, different erosion morphologies were observed, but the primary erosion mechanism was the same. The erosion resistance of the ceramics was higher than that of the coatings. Therefore, ceramic lining materials could be used to protect the easily eroded parts, such as pipeline bends and tees, and reduce the failure rate by more than 93%. With the rapid advancement of 3D-printing technology, additive manufacturing using FDM extrusion has emerged as a prominent method in manufacturing. However, it encounters certain limitations, notably in surface quality and dimensional accuracy. Addressing issues related to stability and surface roughness necessitates the integration of 3D-printing technology with traditional machining, a strategy known as the hybrid technique. This paper presents a study of the surface geometric parameters and microstructure of plastic parts produced by FDM. Sleeve-shaped samples were 3D-printed from polyethylene terephthalate glycol material using variable layer heights of 0.1 mm and 0.2 mm and then subjected to the turning process with PVD-coated DCMT11T304 turning inserts using variable cutting parameters. The cutting depth was constant at 0.82 mm. Surface roughness values were correlated with the cutting tool feed rate and the printing layer height applied. The selected specimen's microstructure was studied with a Zeiss EVO MA 15 scanning electron microscope. The roundness was measured with a Keyence VR-6200 3D optical profilometer. The research results confirmed that the additional application of turning, combined with a reduction in the feed rate (0.0506 mm/rev) and the height of the printed layer (0.1 mm), reduced the surface roughness of the sleeve (Ra = 1.94 μm) and increased its geometric accuracy. Laser beam remelting is a relatively simple and highly effective technique for the physical modification of surfaces to improve resistance to cavitation erosion. In this study, we investigated the effect of laser remelting on the surface of cast stainless steel with 0.40% C, 25% Cr, 20% Ni, and 1.5% Si on cavitation erosion behavior in tap water. The investigation was conducted using a piezoceramic crystal vibrator apparatus. Base laser beam parameters were carefully selected to result in a defect-free surface (no porosity, material burn, cracks) with hardness capable of generating better resistance to cavitation erosion. The experimental results were compared with those of the reference material. Surface morphology and microstructure evolution after cavitation tests were analyzed using an optical metallographic microscope (OM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and hardness tests to explore the mechanism of improving surface degradation resistance. The conducted research demonstrated that surfaces modified by laser remelting exhibit a 4.8–5.1 times greater increase in cavitation erosion resistance due to the homogenization of chemical composition and refinement of the microstructure, while maintaining the properties of the base material. The objective of this study is to investigate the storage stability and rheological property of bio-oil/lignin composite-modified asphalt. The composite-modified asphalt with different proportions of bio-oil was prepared and cured at 105 °C, 135 °C, and 165 °C for 24 h and 48 h. The storage stability of the composite-modified asphalt was evaluated based on the softening point difference, the storage stability index derived from rotational viscosity, the segregation rate based on temperature sweep, and the non-recoverable creep compliance measured through the Multiple Stress Creep Recovery test. The storage stability of bio-oil/lignin composite-modified asphalt was evaluated through testing and analysis of its infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy before and after thermal storage. The research results indicate that the maximum difference in softening point is 0.9 °C, and the calculated storage stability index is generally below 0.1. The maximum value of the segregation rate is 0.43, indicating excellent storage stability of the bio-oil/lignin composite-modified asphalt. According to the results from infrared spectroscopy, no chemical reactions occurred during the storage process of the composite-modified asphalt. This investigation explores the fabrication of polymer matrix nanocomposites via additive manufacturing (AM), using a UV photopolymerization resin and copper nanoparticles (Cu-NPs) with vat photopolymerization 3D printing technology. The aim in this study is to investigate the mentioned materials in different formulations in terms of inexpensive processing, the property related variability, and targeting multifunctional applications. After the AM process, samples were post-cured with UV light in order to obtain better mechanical properties. The particles and resin were mixed using an ultrasonicator, and the particle contents used were 0.0, 0.5, and 1.0 wt %. The process used in this investigation was simple and inexpensive, as the technologies used are quite accessible, from the 3D printer to the UV curing device. These formulations were characterized with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to observe the materials' microstructure and tensile tests to quantify stress–strain derived properties. Results showed that, besides the simplicity of the process, the mixing was effective, which was observed in the scanning electron microscope. Carbon fiber (CF)-reinforced polyamide 6 (PA6) composites have an excellent performance, attributed to properties such as light quality, high strength, and vibration reduction, and they are widely used in fields such as aerospace and transportation. Four kinds of carbon fiber-reinforced polyamide 6 (CF/PA6) composite pellets with carbon fiber contents of 20, 30, 40, and 50 wt.% were prepared using twin screw extrusion. The results were characterized using a simultaneous thermal analyzer, capillary rheometer, electronic universal material testing machine, and scanning electron microscope (SEM); their crystallization, rheological behavior, mechanical properties, surface structure, etc., were studied. DSC results indicate that an increase in carbon fiber content enhances the thermal stability of CF/PA6 and narrows the crystallization window but has a minor effect on the molecular chain diffusion time. The crystallinity reaches its maximum at a carbon fiber content of 40 wt.%, reaching 55.16%. The steady-state rheological behavior reveals that CF/PA6 behaves as a pseudoplastic fluid, exhibiting shear-thinning behavior. When the carbon fiber content is 40 wt.%, the power law exponent (n) reaches its maximum, and the consistency coefficient (K) decreases by 300 Pa ⋅ s n compared to the 30 wt.% content. With increasing temperature, n increases while K decreases. SEM observations reveal that samples with carbon fiber contents of 20 wt.% and 40 wt.% exhibit better fiber dispersion and orientation. However, the interfacial bonding strength is superior in the 40 wt.% sample. Direct explosion welding makes it challenging to weld high-strength metals. Interlayer explosive welding was utilized to join the high-strength, low-melting-point aluminum alloy A7075 with the high-strength titanium alloy Ti–6Al–4 V. This method overcomes the challenges of directly welding such metals and widens the range of weldable parameters, thus facilitating more favorable welding conditions. The study effectively demonstrated the interlayer explosive welding process for A7075 with Ti–6Al–4 V using aluminum and copper interlayers. Microstructure and chemical content analysis of the bonded interfaces were conducted through optical microscope, scanning electron microscope, electron backscatter diffraction, and X-ray energy spectroscopy. The investigations found that the upper interfaces were flat and straight in shape, but the lower interfaces were wavy. Interdiffusion of components and compound formation occurred at the welded interface. In addition, grain refining took place at the bonding interface. Vickers hardness was used to measure hardness variations at the welded interface, and the mechanical properties of the bonded interface were examined using tensile shear, bending, and microtensile tests. The results confirm the practicality of interlayer explosive welding in producing high-strength, low-melting-point composites of A7075 and Ti–6Al–4 V. Microstructure analysis and mechanical testing at the weld interfaces of A7075/A1060/Ti–6Al–4 V and A7075/Cu/Ti–6Al–4 V composite plates revealed excellent bonding quality. Notably, compared to A7075/A1060/Ti–6Al–4 V composite plate, A7075/Cu/Ti–6Al–4 V composite plate performs better in mechanical tests, with tensile bending strengths of 137 MPa and 1321 MPa, respectively. Thinner interfacial melting zones were evident in the microstructure of the composite plate with a copper interlayer at the 30 mm explosive thickness parameter, correlating with improved performance in the microtensile test. The expedient repair of damaged airfield pavements is important to eliminate long closure periods. Rapid-setting cement (RSC) is promising for achieving target strength in a much shorter duration (4–6 h) compared to conventional repair methods. However, when the objective is to reopen the pavement within 1–2 h, there is a lack of methods to quantify the development of mechanical properties during the first few hours. In this study, a simplified maturity method is proposed to monitor the very early-strength development of two commercially available RSC mixes with different strength development mechanisms. The results were validated using hydration chemistry data from scanning electron microscope (SEM) experiments and ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) tests. The experimental results show that such a maturity-based approach is effective and robust in characterizing the early-strength development of the two RSC mixes despite variations in ambient temperature conditions. Developing low-carbon and green self-compacting concrete (SCC) is essential for advancing sustainable building materials. In this study, recycled steel fibers (RSFs) and industrial by-products were combined for the production of SCC made with recycled aggregates (RSCC), with the aim of introducing multiple waste materials to improve the sustainability of SCC. 14 RSF-reinforced RSCC mixtures (RSF-RSCC) were prepared by replacing natural coarse aggregates (NCAs) with recycled coarse aggregates (RCAs) and cement with supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) and reinforced with RSFs. The parameters studied in this paper include replacement levels of RCAs (75%), SCMs (50% and 75%), and RSFs (0.5%, 1.0%, and 1.5%). The influence of different content of RSFs and SCMs combinations on workability and mechanical properties was studied, and the synergistic influence of RSFs and SCMs was investigated in detail. The microstructure characteristic was investigated using a scanning electron microscope. The test results show that the addition of SCMs can compensate for the adverse effects of RSFs on the fresh properties, and all RSF-RSCC exhibited superior workability. Furthermore, the incorporation of RSFs enhanced the mechanical properties of RSCC, resulting in remarkable improvement in the compressive and flexural strengths. Phosphogypsum (PG) is an industrial solid waste generated during the preparation of phosphoric acid, which is produced in large quantities and stockpiled or discharged into the sea. This study aims to design sustainable pavement base materials constituting significant PG content. The physical and chemical properties of the raw materials were first tested. The optimum moisture content and maximum dry density of specimens were determined by compaction tests. The unconfined compressive strength (UCS), split tensile strength (STS), freeze-thaw cycles, and shrinkage tests were used to evaluate the mechanical performance of phosphogypsum pavement base material (PPBM). Furthermore, the interaction mechanism was investigated by applying scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Fourier-transformed infrared (FTIR) tests. The results showed that the 7-day UCS of PPBM with cement content 8%–12% was greater than 3 MPa. The specimens retained 91.3% unconfined compressive strength over five freeze-thaw cycles. Unlike traditional semirigid base materials, the PPBM exhibited no shrinkage strain, which is manifested by the growth of expansion strain with increasing amounts of PG. Through microscopic observation, the PPBM produced ettringite (AFt) and calcium-silicate-hydrate (CSH) with the extension of curing time, which is consistent with the analysis of FTIR spectrums. In this study, the polygonal structure of WO3 nanoparticles was constructed by the hydrothermal route, and the prepared materials were utilized for supercapacitor applications. The synthetic materials are WO3 nanoparticles in their monoclinic phase, according to the X-ray diffraction data. The morphologies of the WO3 samples are polygonal like and scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscopy have confirmed it. To investigate the supercapacitance behavior of polygonal WO3, various techniques were used, such as galvanostatic charge–discharge, cyclic voltammetry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The polygonal WO3 nanoparticle modified on Ni-foam as a working electrode has a specific capacitance value of 870 F g−1 at 0.25 A g−1. The polygonal structure of WO3 nanoparticle-coated Ni-foam electrodes was very stable compared to other fabricated electrodes over the 10,000 cycles. The fabricated polygonal structure of the WO3 electrode has high capacitance retention (100.2%) and high coulombic efficiency (99%). This study centers on the synthesis and characterization of a novel double perovskite, termed Sr 2 TiZrO 6 (STZO), which was synthesized using the conventional solid-state reaction method and subsequently calcined at 1000 °C for 12 h. X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern refinement confirmed the formation of the tetragonal phase Sr 2 TiZrO 6 (space group P 4 mm), while both XRD and scanning electron microscope (SEM) analyses revealed that the resulting STZO displaying spherical-like grains with nanometric diameters. Thermogravimetric analysis revealed a minor weight loss attributed to the emergence of the ZrO 2 phase and the formation of the STZO double perovskite. The diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) results demonstrated strong UV-light absorption, with an optical absorption onset below 400 nm. The obtained band gap for direct transitions of the STZO sample is equal to 3.26 eV. The conductance and impedance study of the STZO sample are investigated. The present properties provide crucial insights to enhance comprehension of the STZO double perovskite material, which holds promise as a viable candidate for a range of applications, such as solar cells and photodiodes. We present the band gap engineering and morphological tuning of BaAl2O4:0.1% Sm3+, x% Tb3+ nanophosphors synthesized by citrate sol–gel method. Herein, the samarium (Sm3+) concentration is kept constant at 0.1%, while the concentration of terbium (Tb3+) is tuned from 0.5 to 2.5% with steps of 0.5%. X-ray diffraction confirms the hexagonal crystal structure of the BaAl2O4:0.1% Sm3+, x% Tb3+ nanophosphors. The reduction in crystallite size from 38 to 31 nm is noticed after doping and co-doping. Scanning electron microscope micrographs display evolution in morphology from multimodal grain-like structures to agglomerated pointy nanorods. Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy confirms all the main elements, although Sm is not detected due to the low content incorporated into the lattice. Transmission electron microscope results reveal that the particle size and shape can be controlled by varying concentrations of Tb3+. Diffuse reflectance spectra with the aid of the Kubelka–Munk function, reveal the energy band gap in the range of 2.6–5.3 eV. Under the excitation wavelength of 235 nm, photoluminescence studies reveal eight emission peaks located between 380 and 641 nm characteristic of Tb3+ ions. Upon the excitation wavelength of 402 nm, the emission spectra show four peaks positioned at 564, 601, 648 and 708 nm attributed to 4G5/2 → 6H5/2, 4G5/2 → 6H7/2,4G5/2 → 6H9/2 and 4G5/2 → 6H11/2 transitions of Sm3+ ions, respectively. In this work, nanocellulose aqueous dispersions were studied as a bio-inspired consolidating agent for the recovery and conservation of ancient wood and compared with two of the most used traditional consolidants: the synthetic resins Paraloid B-72 and Regalrez 1126. The morphology of crystalline nanocellulose (CNC), determined using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), presents with a rod-like shape, with a size ranging between 15 and 30 nm in width. Chemical characterization performed using the Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) technique provides information on surface modifications, in this case, demonstrating the presence of only the characteristic peaks of nanocellulose. Moreover, conductometric, pH, and dry matter measurements were carried out, showing also in this case values perfectly conforming to what is found in the literature. The treated wood samples were observed under an optical microscope in reflected light and under a scanning electron microscope to determine, respectively, the damage caused by xylophages and the morphology of the treated surfaces. The images acquired show the greater similarity of the surfaces treated with nanocellulose to untreated wood, compared with other consolidating agents. Finally, a colorimetric analysis of these samples was also carried out before and after a first consolidation treatment, and after a second treatment carried out on the same samples three years later. Elastic polymer composite materials possess physical properties such as softness, durability, and heat preservation, making them suitable for designing flexible, snug, and highly ductile devices. While polymers are generally electrical insulators, they can become electrically conductive when doped with carbon powder. Carbon can strongly interact with polymers, enabling the composites to exhibit electrical conductivity through this adsorption process. By heating and melting the polymer and incorporating thin but heavily concentrated carbon powder, these composites can achieve electrical properties similar to those of conductors or semiconductors. This study examines the adsorption and electrical properties of elastic polymer composite materials, focusing on aspects such as resistance temperature characteristics and conductivity. The results indicate that electrically conductive elastic polymers have potential applications in electrothermal devices, thermostatic control systems, sensors, and variable resistors. In this study, cold plasma treatments are employed to modify peanuts. This study systematically investigates the effects of various plasma treatment conditions, including power, duration, and gas type, on the microstructure of peanut seed coats and embryos. Observations under a scanning electron microscope (SEM) reveal that as plasma treatment power increases from 100 W to 500 W, the etching level of peanut seed coats significantly intensifies, surface roughness deepens, and concavities become more pronounced. Additionally, micro-pores on the seed coat gradually enlarge and form cracks. Specifically, when the plasma treatment is set at 200 W for 60 s, the oxygen (O2) treatment group shows interconnected cracks on the peanut seed coat surface, with lipid particles exuding and protein particles and polymers decomposing. In contrast, the helium (He) treatment group displays clear cell structures and deep grooves, with no noticeable lipid particles exuding around surface cracks. The argon (Ar) treatment group exhibits a distinct rectangular cell structure with clear boundaries, and although surface cracks form, only a few protein particles escape from the cracks. The embryo surface structure becomes looser after plasma treatment, leading to the disintegration of lipid particles, protein particles, and polymers, affecting the fusion and migration of large and small lipid bodies within the peanut's internal structure. Increasing treatment duration intensifies the etching phenomenon, resulting in more lipid particles exuding, which indicates a positive correlation between lipid particles exuding and treatment duration. This study sheds light on the mechanisms underlying changes in peanut microstructure due to cold plasma treatment, providing scientific evidence for improving peanut quality, enhancing oil extraction efficiency, and optimizing food processing techniques. Background: Glass ionomer cement (GIC) is a dental material often used in clinical practice. However, its use is limited due to its drawbacks. Natural resources such as propolis have been used to mainly enhance GIC's antibacterial properties, but other properties attributed to this enhancement also require evaluation. Purpose: The study aims to evaluate the surface hardness, the surface roughness, and the water absorption of GIC containing ethanolic extract of propolis (EEP) from Trigona spp. Methods: Samples in this study were divided into four groups: GIC (control group); GIC + 25% EEP; GIC + 30% EEP; and GIC + 35% EEP. Surface roughness was measured using a surface roughness tester. Surface hardness was measured using a micro-Vickers hardness tester. Water absorption was measured by weighing the samples before and after immersion in distilled water. Surface characterization was carried out using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Data was statistically analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and one-way variance analysis along with the post-hoc Tukey's test to determine significant differences between all four samples. Results: The statistical test showed significant differences in surface hardness and surface roughness between the control group and the GIC + EEP group. However, the test demonstrated no significant differences in water absorption between the control group and the GIC + EEP group. Selected crystals of natural K-bearing tourmalines, extracted from a quartzofeldspathic rock from the Kumdy-Kol microdiamond deposit (an ultrahigh-pressure region of Kokchetav Massif, northern Kazakhstan), were characterized using a scanning electron microscope, an electron microprobe and single-crystal X-ray diffraction to investigate the impact of K uptake on the tourmaline structure. All the studied crystals belong to the maruyamaite–oxy-dravite/dravite compositional field, with K contents ranging from 0.03 to 0.47 apfu (atoms per formula unit), and contain a minor fluor-uvite component that increases towards oxy-dravite and dravite. The compositional variability of our samples can be expressed as a sequence of substitutions ranging from maruyamaite to oxy-dravite, dravite and fluor-uvite (or vice versa). Specifically, the substitutions that lead from maruyamaite to oxy-dravite to dravite are (1) X K + Al TOT + O1 O ↔ X Na + Mg TOT + O1 O and (2) X Na + Mg TOT + O1 O ↔ X Na + Mg TOT + O1 OH, respectively. Conversely, the substitutions that lead from oxy-dravite to dravite to fluor-uvite are (1) X Na + Mg TOT + O1 O ↔ X Na + Mg TOT + O1 OH and (2) X Na + Mg TOT + O1 OH ↔ X Ca + Mg TOT + O1 F, respectively. By analysing the difference between the bond valence sum and mean formal charge at the X site, we show that an increase in the K content (K > 0.21 apfu) results in the compression of X –O bonds (overbonded cation). Conversely, lower K contents lead to the stretching of the bonds (underbonded cation). Compared to the K-dominant analogues with Z FeO 6 povondraite-type framework, K-bearing tourmalines with a smaller Z AlO 6 framework such as maruyamaite should only be stable at higher-pressure conditions, as pressure is necessary to squeeze the relatively large K cation into the tighter X cavity. In both cases, the essential condition for the formation of K-dominant tourmalines is the extremely high K activity in the crystallization fluid. The K-tourmaline from the Kokchetav Massif may have crystallized under high-pressure (HP) conditions, with an upper limit between 3.5–7 GPa, during retrograde metamorphism following the ultrahigh-pressure (UHP) metamorphic peak. Shape memory alloys (SMAs) are potential materials in various areas such as engineering and medicine, and their applications are being studied for practical use. SMAs show competence in their main material properties in response to their working environment or external stimuli. Machining of NiTiCu10 SMAs is difficult using traditional machining because of their wide-ranging mechanical properties like high toughness, strength, and sensitivity to phase transformation temperature. Nonconventional machining methods such as electro-discharge machining (EDM) are suitable for effective machining SMAs. The work material NiTiCu10 SMA has been used in this study, and processed using the vacuum induction melting (VIM) technique. The addition of copper leads to increase in the martensitic transformation temperatures. This paper focuses on the electro-discharge drilling (EDD) of NiTiCu10 SMA using copper tool electrode. Experimental analysis of performance criteria has been evaluated by conducting experiments following one factor at a time (OFAT) approach. Machining features such as material removal rate (MRR), tool electrode wear rate (TEWR), and surface roughness (SR) have been studied by considering pulse current ( I p ), gap voltage ( V g ), pulse on time ( T on ), pulse off time ( T off ), and rotational speed of tool electrode (N). Experimental results have shown that machining at the highest I p of 12 A yields the highest MRR with the value of 4.077 mm3/min, whereas mcahining at T on of 15 μ s yields the lowest TEWR with the value of 0.031 mm3/min. The lowest SR is 2.8 μ m achieved at the lowest T on of 15 μ s. Surface morphology is significant in quality evaluation in the manufacturing, and building industries because it directly determines the mechanical performance of parts, and the service life of products. Morphological investigation via scanning electron microscope (SEM) has confirmed the formation of craters, debris, microcracks, and resolidified layers. The issue of street dust pollution is primarily related to levels of microplastic particles (MPs) and heavy metals, raising concerns about their potential risk to the environment. In this work, twenty street dust samples with three replicates were collected from different areas (residential, commercial, and industrial) on the left side of Mosul city/Iraq, to investigate the presence of MPs and study their characteristics. Additionally, to assess the potential ecological risk impact of twelve heavy metals. Among the 60 dust samples taken from the streets, an average of MPs ranging between 244 and 2760 per 15 grams of dust was detected. Most of these plastic particles were transparent fragments with sizes varying from less than 10 to 200 µm as observed through a stereomicroscope and a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Furthermore, results from FTIR analysis indicated that polyvinyl chloride (PVC) was the dominant polymer type found in MPs, accounting for around 63%. The levels of metal in road dust were assessed using X-ray fluorescence (XRF) showing that quantification of Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Sb, Hg, and Pb surpassed the background values of world soils among the twelve elements studied. Variation coefficients (VCs) coupled with enrichment and contamination factors revealed that Cr, Cu, Zn, As, Se, Cd, Sb, Hg, and Pb are associated with both sources (anthropogenic and natural). On the other hand, Mn, Fe, and Ni originate from natural sources. Calculated potential ecological risk (Er) indicated high ecological risk by Hg. Developing wound dressings with healing properties is a crucial requirement, especially in developing countries. In this research work, chitosan is extracted from Monomia gladiator crab shells for the first time to fabricate a novel wound dressing. The prepared chitosan (CS) is blended with silk sericin (SS), polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) in three different ratios of PVA:CS:SS (100:0:0), PVA:CS:SS (80:10:10) – AgNPs, and PVA:CS:SS (50:25:25) – AgNPs to produce nanofibers. The developed nanofibers were analyzed under a scanning electron microscope (SEM), tensile testing, and antibacterial activity to study their fiber size, tensile strength, and bactericidal properties, respectively. The cell viability test against L929 cells demonstrates that the prepared wound dressing is noncytotoxic and facilitates cell proliferation. In vivo research on a full‐thickness excision wound model states that the incorporation of SS, CS, and AgNPs into the PVA introduces a novel multifunctional advancement in wound dressing, offering versatile benefits by promoting reepithelialization and collagen deposition. In order to improve the electrical conductivity of nylon 6 (PA6) and avoid misfires and explosions caused by static charge accumulation, a quaternary ammonium salt polyionic liquid (PIL) antistatic agent was synthesized in this paper. The surface resistance of PA6 was reduced to 108Ω with the addition of 2 wt% antistatic agent, and the mechanical properties and aging resistance of the substrate were improved. Meanwhile, the morphology and crystallinity of PIL/PA6 composites were further characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersion spectrometer (EDS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). It is worth noting that the quaternary ammonium salt polyionic liquid antistatic agent synthesized in this paper has the advantages of excellent antistatic effect, durability, low cost, and simple reaction condition, so it has a broad application prospect in the antistatic aspect of PA6. Green synthesis is an easy, safe, and environmentally beneficial nanoparticle creation method. It is a great challenge to simultaneously improve the capping and stabilizing agent carrier separation efficiency of photocatalysts. Herein, Zn-doped Titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles with high exposure of 360 nm using a UV/visible spectrophotometer were prepared via a one-step hydrothermal decomposition method. A detailed analysis reveals that the electronic structures were modulated by Zn doping; thus, the responsive wavelength was extended to 600 nm, which effectively improved the visible light absorption of TiO2. We have optimized the different parameters like concentration, time, and temperature. The peak for TiO2 is located at 600 cm-1 in FTIR. A scanning electron microscope revealed that TiO2 has a definite shape and morphology. The synthesized Zn-doped TiO2NPs were applied against various pathogens to study their anti-bacterial potentials. The anti-bacterial activity of Zn-doped TiO2 has shown robust against two gram-ve bacteria (Salmonella and Escherichia coli) and two gram + ve bacteria (Staphylococcus epidermidis and Staphylococcus aureus). Synthesized Zn-doped TiO2 has demonstrated strong antifungal efficacy against a variety of fungi. Moreover, doping TiO2 nanoparticles with metal oxide greatly improves their characteristics; as a result, doped metal oxide nanoparticles perform better than doped and un-doped metal oxide nanoparticles.
