The intrusion detection system is responsible for revealing different intrusion activities, including the denial of service, man-in-middle, Mirai, Scan, and other types of intrusion activities. It is used in many applications, including the smart home Internet of Things networks, where security risks threaten the privacy of individuals. In this context, many works were proposed for detecting and classifying the different types of attacks. However, many challenges are identified for this type of problem, such as the large amount of data available, the imbalanced nature of the data, and the quality of detection and classification outcomes. This paper aims to address these challenges by proposing an approach that considers a metaheuristic-based random weight neural network to detect intrusion activities and classify the different types and subtypes of activities. The following points summarize the contribution of this paper. First, the automatic tuning of the neural network parameters where the weights, biases, regularization value, the number of neurons, and the type of activation function are optimized by different metaheuristic algorithms to produce high-quality results. Second, the proposed approach adopts a clustering with reduction technique to tackle the challenge of processing large volumes of data. Third, oversampling the dataset is also embedded in the proposed approach to avoid a biased classification of the majority class. The experiments are conducted based on a large dataset with more than half a million instances. Since the invention of the X-ray beam, it has been used for useful applications in various fields, such as medical diagnosis, fluoroscopy, radiation therapy, and computed tomography. In addition, it is also widely used to identify prohibited or illegal materials using X-ray imaging in the security field. However, these procedures are generally dependent on the human factor. An operator detects prohibited objects by projecting pseudo-color images onto a computer screen. Because these processes are prone to error, much work has gone into automating the processes involved. Initial research on this topic consisted mainly of machine learning and methods using hand-crafted features. The newly developed deep learning methods have subsequently been more successful. For this reason, deep learning algorithms are a trend in recent studies and the number of publications has increased in areas such as X-ray imaging. Twin support vector machine (TWSVM) and twin support vector regression (TSVR) are newly emerging efficient machine learning techniques which offer promising solutions for classification and regression challenges respectively. TWSVM is based upon the idea to identify two nonparallel hyperplanes which classify the data points to their respective classes. It requires to solve two small sized quadratic programming problems (QPPs) in lieu of solving single large size QPP in support vector machine (SVM) while TSVR is formulated on the lines of TWSVM and requires to solve two SVM kind problems. Although there has been good research progress on these techniques; there is limited literature on the comparison of different variants of TSVR. Thus, this review presents a rigorous analysis of recent research in TWSVM and TSVR simultaneously mentioning their limitations and advantages. To begin with, we first introduce the basic theory of support vector machine, TWSVM and then focus on the various improvements and applications of TWSVM, and then we introduce TSVR and its various enhancements. When producing clothing using virtual fitting technology or purchasing textile and clothing products online, it is challenging to make judgments or communicate information about sensory characteristics, such as drapability and tactile sensations, as there are no clear objective indicators for these factors. Therefore, the study aims to develop a classification system for the sensory properties of fabrics using drapability and tactile characteristics as quantitative indicators. The developed system was verified through subjective evaluations by an expert group, and it was found to be meaningful in reflecting classification levels in practice. The drapability and tactile sensation (softness; TS7) of the fabric were classified using fuzzy c-means cluster analysis, and the results were confirmed through a subjective evaluation by experts. The classification system was then used to predict the classification group, constituted by drapability and tactile characteristics, from mechanical properties using an artificial neural network. The network was trained on 534 fabric samples for drapability and tactile sensation (softness), and it correctly predicted 202 samples out of 243 validation data, with a forecasting accuracy of 83.5%. The developed classification system enables predictions and judgments about subjective characteristics like fabric drapability and tactile sensation based on the mechanical property values of various samples.
