Objective: There is no study on the relationship between triglyceride-glucose index (TyG index) and skeletal muscle mass in middle-aged and elderly C population. Therefore, the aim of the study is to investigate the relationship between the TyG index and weight-adjusted relative skeletal muscle index (RSMI) in middle-aged and elderly C population. Methods: We retrospectively studied 947 aged ⩾40 years subjects who got a routine medical examination in the Department of Geriatrics of R Hospital from May 2021 to March 2023. The RSMI was designed to evaluate skeletal muscle mass and calculated based on lean mass of the limbs(kg)/body weight(kg) × 100%. Skeletal muscle mass reduction was defined as a RSMI of 1-2 standard deviations (SD) below of healthy adults aged 30-49 years old. Considering the quartile groups of the TyG index, the subjects were assigned to 4 groups: Q1 (less than or equal to 8.171), Q2 (from 8.172 to 8.569), Q3 (from 8.570 to 8.992), and Q4 (greater than or equal to 8.993). Results: With TyG index increased, RSMI levels significantly reduced(P <.001). Spearman's correlation analysis showed that the TyG index was negatively correlated with RSMI in males (r = −0.320) and females (r = −0.240). The TyG index was positively correlated with body mass index (BMI), systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), fasting plasma glucose (FPG), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) (P <.05). Besides, binary logistic regression analysis showed that the risk of developing reduced skeletal muscle mass in the group Q4 was 2.131 (95%CI:1.118-4.064) in males; and was 2.472 (95%CI:1.581-3.867) in females compared to the Q1 group. Conclusion: TyG index was negatively correlated with relative skeletal muscle index, and a higher TyG index was associated with the development of reduced skeletal muscle mass independently of other influencing factors. Background: There is no standard approach for managing the use or dose of loop diuretics after initiating sacubitril/valsartan. Objective: To investigate longitudinal trends in loop diuretic therapy use and doses during the initial 6 months following sacubitril/valsartan initiation. Methods: This retrospective cohort study included adult patients who were initiated on sacubitril/valsartan in cardiology clinics. Inclusion criteria were patients diagnosed with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (ejection fraction ≤40%) and initiated on sacubitril/valsartan in an outpatient setting. We investigated longitudinal trends in the prevalence of loop diuretic use and furosemide equivalent dose at baseline, 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 month and 6 months following sacubitril/valsartan initiation. Results: A total of 427 patients were included in the final cohort. Compared to the baseline loop diuretic use and dose, there were no significant longitudinal changes in the prevalence of loop diuretic use or the furosemide equivalent dose over the 6 months following sacubitril/valsartan initiation. The use of sacubitril/valsartan was not significantly associated with reductions in the use or dose of loop diuretics over a 6-month follow-up period. Conclusion: The use of sacubitril/valsartan did not significantly change the use or dose of loop diuretics over 6-month follow-up period. Low health literacy (LHL) significantly impacts patients' ability to participate actively in their healthcare. Registered nurses (RNs) play a crucial role in identifying LHL and addressing patient knowledge gaps and skill deficits. This correlational study examined the relationship between RNs' predictions of patients' health literacy levels (HLL) and the actual HLL of a predominately Hispanic patient population. In addition, personal factors (i.e., demographics) were analyzed to determine their influence on the nurse's predictions and patients' HLL. Data were collected from 84 participant patient–nurse couplets admitted to a medical-surgical unit in a rural setting located on the United States–Mexico border. In addition to demographic information collected via survey, RNs were asked to predict their patient's health literacy abilities while the Newest Vital Sign, a health literacy assessment tool, was deployed to determine the actual HLL of patients participating in the study. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t -tests, and chi-square tests while a Spearman correlational model was used to examine the relationship between predicted HLL and actual HLL. Finally, a logistic regression model was used to analyze the relationship between personal factors and HL data for RNs and patients. Analysis of the data revealed that RNs consistently overestimated patients' abilities, as evidenced by the disparity between patients' actual HLL (mean 1.71) and predicted HLL (mean 4.26) by RNs, with a moderately strong positive relationship (rs =.418). Notably, higher academic preparation and years of experience did not enhance the RNs' ability to identify LHL while the highest level of education completed was the only statistically significant predictor of adequate health literacy in the patient population sampled. These findings emphasize the need to prioritize effective health literacy education in RN academic preparation and clinical practice to support the detection of LHL when a standardized health literacy assessment tool is not utilized in the clinical setting. Introduction: In 2015, our university hospital pharmacy acquired the PharmaHelp robot system to automate part of its chemotherapy production. Complex technical use, downtime periods, and insufficient training caused a drop in motivation and disparities in operators' knowledge. We created a short, playful, standardized, gamed-based training program to address this, and evaluated its impact. Methods: Operators were classified as trainers or trainees according to their knowledge about Information and Communication Technologies. Before, after the training, and at 6 months (6M), their robot knowledge was assessed on a 0-24-scale, motivation and self-efficacy in using it on 0-to-100 scales. Pairwise comparison t -test with Bonferroni adjustment was used (p < 0.05 considered significant). Satisfaction was measured using a six-point Likert scale. Trainer/trainee teams participated in 2-hour training sessions with three games and a debriefing. For "Knowing the manufacturing steps," cards with the steps were placed in the correct order. For "Knowing the criteria for using the robot," teams guessed whether certain compounds could be used with the robot. For "Knowing how to handle production errors," the answer to each error (taken from real-life issues) was selected from four options. Results: Participants (n = 14) were very satisfied about sessions' interactivity and playfulness. Knowledge improved from 57% pretraining to 77% (p < 0.005) to 76.6% (6M) (p < 0.05 compared to pretraining). Motivation and self-efficacy, respectively, improved from 57.6% to 86.6% (p < 0.05) to 70.4% (6M) and from 48.5% to 75.6% (p < 0.05) to 60.2% (6M) (p > 0.1 compared to pretraining) (t -test). Economic empowerment (EE) services promote survivors' economic stability and well-being. A target for intervention and prevention, then, is to offer more effective EE services. The study purpose was to develop a clearer picture of what EE services agencies offer, and how prepared staff are to provide these services. We collected data from 154 providers. Survivors most requested, and agencies most frequently provided, housing services. EE services offered did not differ by agency location, staff size, or number of clients. Background: Spinopelvic parameters, including pelvic tilt (PT), sacral slope (SS), and pelvic incidence, have been developed to characterize the relationship between lumbar spine and hip motion, but a paucity of literature is available characterizing differences in spinopelvic parameters among patients with femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS) versus patients without FAIS, as well as the effect of these parameters on outcomes of arthroscopic treatment of FAIS. Purpose: To (1) identify differences in spinopelvic parameters between patients with FAIS versus controls without FAIS; (2) identify associations between spinopelvic parameters and preoperative patient-reported outcomes (PROs); and (3) identify differences in PROs between patients with stiff spines (standing-sitting ΔSS ≤10°) versus those without. Study Design: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 2. Methods: The study enrolled patients ≥18 years of age who underwent primary hip arthroscopy for treatment of FAIS with cam, pincer, or mixed (cam and pincer) morphology. Participants underwent preoperative standing-sitting imaging with a low-dose 3-dimensional radiography system and were matched on age and body mass index (BMI) to controls without FAIS who also underwent EOS imaging. Spinopelvic parameters measured on EOS films were compared between the FAIS and control groups. Patients with FAIS completed the modified Harris Hip Score (mHHS) and Non-Arthritic Hip Score (NAHS) before surgery and at 1-year follow-up. Outcome scores were compared between patients with stiff spines versus those without. Associations between spinopelvic parameters and baseline outcome scores were assessed with Pearson correlations. Continuous variables were compared with Student t test and/or Mann-Whitney U test, and categorical variables were compared with Fisher exact test. Results: A total of 50 patients with FAIS (26 men; 24 women; mean age, 36.1 ± 10.7 years; mean BMI, 25.6 ± 4.2) were matched to 30 controls without FAIS (13 men; 17 women; mean age, 36.6 ± 9.5 years; mean BMI, 26.7 ± 3.6). Age, sex, and BMI were not significantly different between the FAIS and control groups (P >.05). Standing PT was not significantly different between stiff and non-stiff cohorts (P =.73), but sitting PT in the FAIS group was more than double that of the control group (36.5° vs 15.0°; P <.001). Incidence of stiff spine was significantly higher in the FAIS group (62.0% vs 3.3%; P <.001). Among FAIS patients, those with stiff spines had a significantly higher prevalence of cam impingement, whereas those with non–stiff spines had a higher prevalence of mixed impingement (P =.04). No significant differences were seen in preoperative mHHS or NAHS scores or pre- to postoperative improvement in scores between FAIS patients with stiff spines versus those without (P >.05), but a greater sitting SS was found to be positively correlated with a higher baseline mHHS (r = 0.36; P =.02). Conclusion: Patients with FAIS were more likely to have a stiff spine (standing-sitting ΔSS ≤10°) compared with control participants without FAIS. FAIS patients with stiff spines were more likely to have isolated cam morphology than patient without stiff spines. Although sitting SS was positively correlated with baseline mHHS, no significant differences were seen in 1-year postoperative outcomes between FAIS patients with versus without stiff spine. Background: Multilayered osteochondral scaffolds are becoming increasingly utilized for the repair of knee joint surface lesions (KJSLs). However, the literature on predictive factors is rather limited. Purpose: To (1) evaluate the clinical outcomes and safety of a combined single-step approach using a biomimetic collagen-hydroxyapatite scaffold (CHAS) and filtered bone marrow aspirate (fBMA) for the treatment of KJSLs and (2) identify significant predictors of the treatment outcomes. Study Design: Case series; Level of evidence, 4. Methods: All patients who underwent surgery because of a KJSL (size ≥1.5 cm2; International Cartilage Regeneration & Joint Preservation Society grades 3-4) using the combination above were selected from a hospital registry database (100 patients; minimum 2-year follow-up). Patient characteristics, medical history, knee joint and lesion status, intraoperative details, and cellular parameters of the injected fBMA were collected. The arthroscopic evaluation of chondral and meniscal tissue quality in all knee compartments was performed using the Chondropenia Severity Score. Treatment outcomes were determined clinically using patient-reported outcome measures (Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score, EuroQol–5 Dimensions–3 Levels, EuroQol–Visual Analog Scale, and Tegner Activity Scale) and by assessing the occurrence of serious adverse events and graft failure. Multivariable regression analysis was performed to identify significant predictors of the treatment outcomes. Results: At a mean follow-up of 54.2 ± 19.4 months, 78 (87%) patients completed the questionnaires with significant improvements toward the baseline (P <.00625): KOOS Pain subscale from 62 ± 17 to 79 ± 18, KOOS Total score from 57 ± 16 to 70 ± 20, EuroQol–Visual Analog Scale from 61 ± 21 to 76 ± 16, EuroQol–5 Dimensions–3 Levels from 0.57 ± 0.20 to 0.80 ± 0.21, and Tegner Activity Scale from 2.8 ± 1.5 to 3.9 ± 1.9. The graft failure rate was 4%. A longer duration of preoperative symptoms, previous surgery, larger lesions, older age, and female sex were the main negative predictors for the treatment outcomes. The Chondropenia Severity Score and the number of fibroblast colony-forming units in fBMA positively influenced some of the clinical results and safety. Conclusion: A CHAS augmented with fBMA proved to be an adequate and safe approach for the treatment of KJSLs up to midterm follow-up. Based on the subanalysis of predictive factors, the surgical intervention should be performed in a timely and precise manner to prevent lesion enlargement, deterioration of the general knee cartilage status, and recurrent surgical procedures, especially in older and female patients. Background: Clinical studies have demonstrated significant advantages of combined anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction (ACLR) and lateral extra-articular procedures (LEAPs) over isolated ACLR in terms of reducing graft rupture and reoperation rates. However, most of the published studies have included young patients, and no studies have focused on patients aged >30 years. Purpose/Hypothesis: The purpose of this study was to compare the outcomes of isolated ACLR versus ACLR + LEAP at midterm follow-up in patients aged >30 years. The hypothesis was that patients who underwent combined procedures would experience significantly lower rates of graft rupture. Study Design: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3. Methods: Patients >30 years of age who underwent primary ACLR + LEAP between January 2003 and December 2020 were propensity matched at a 1:1 ratio to patients who underwent isolated ACLR. A retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data was performed to determine graft rupture rates, knee stability, reoperation rates, and complications. Graft survivorship was assessed using the Kaplan-Meier method. Risk factors associated with the occurrence of graft failure were analyzed using a Cox proportional hazards model. Results: Two groups of 551 patients each were included in the study, and the mean follow-up was 97.19 ± 47.23 months. The overall mean age was 37.01 ± 6.24 years. The LEAP group consisted of 503 (91.3%) patients who had anterolateral ligament reconstruction and 48 (8.7%) patients who had a Lemaire procedure. Overall, 19 (1.7%) patients had graft failure: 15 (2.7%) in the no-LEAP group and 4 (0.7%) in the LEAP group (P =.0116). The risk of graft failure was significantly associated with the absence of LEAP (31 vs 12; hazard ratio, 3.309; 95% CI, 1.088-10.065; P =.0350) and age between 30 and 35 years (hazard ratio, 4.533; 95% CI, 1.484-13.841; P =.0080). A higher rate of reoperation for secondary meniscectomy was found in the no-LEAP group (5.6% vs 2.2%; P =.0031). Conclusion: Patients aged >30 years who underwent combined ACLR and LEAP experienced a >3-fold lower risk of ACL graft failure compared with those who underwent isolated ACLR. Background: Patients with oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) treated with radiation-based therapy suffer from short- and long-term toxicities that affect quality of life (QOL). Transoral robotic surgery (TORS) has an established role in the management of early OPSCC but adjuvant treatment is often indicated postoperatively due to the high incidence of nodal metastasis associated with advanced human papillomavirus (HPV)-related OPSCC. To overcome the need for adjuvant radiation therapy (RT), neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by TORS and neck dissection (ND) is proposed. This study aimed to assess if QOL in HPV-associated OPSCC receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by TORS and ND returns to baseline within 12 months of completing treatment. Methods: A 12 month longitudinal study was carried out at McGill University Health Centre in Montreal, Canada, among a convenience sample of patients with American Joint Committee on Cancer Seventh Edition stage III and IVa HPV-related OPSCC who were treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by TORS and ND. QOL data were obtained pretreatment and at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months following treatment completion using the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Core and Head and Neck extension modules. Paired t tests and mixed models for repeated measures analysis were used to assess changes in QOL from baseline to 12 months postoperatively and over time, respectively. Results: Nineteen of 23 patients (median age 58 years) who received the study treatment fulfilled the eligibility criteria. OPSCC subsites were palatine tonsil (n = 12) and base of tongue (n = 7). All 19 patients were treated per protocol and none required adjuvant RT as per pathology review and protocol requirements at a postoperative multidisciplinary team tumor board discussion. No significant differences were found when comparing 12 month QOL follow-up scores to pretreatment scores in measures that would likely be affected by RT [eg, swallowing (P =.7), social eating (P =.8), xerostomia (P =.9)]. Conclusion: In HPV-related OPSCC, neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by TORS and ND as definitive treatment is associated with excellent QOL outcomes. Objectives : Facial nerve palsy causes blurred vision and ocular discomfort due to deficits in blinking and eye closure. The objective of this study was to determine whether eye-blinks could be elicited by electrical stimulation and whether electrically induced blink would have an effect on the visual acuity and ocular symptoms in patients with acute facial nerve palsy. Methods : The zygomatic branch of the facial nerve of fifteen participants with acute facial nerve palsy was electrically stimulated in order to elicit a blink. In successful cases, the participant proceeded with a two-hour TV watching session in which an electrically induced blink was delivered every 5 seconds. The control condition consisted of an otherwise similar TV watching session without electrically induced blinking. Subjective ocular symptoms were evaluated with a Dry Eye Questionnaire and visual acuity was assessed with a Logarithm of the Minimum Angle of Resolution (LogMAR) chart before and after both sessions. Results : The stimulation produced a blink in 8 participants (53%). The visual acuity in the affected eye decreased during the control session, whereas no significant change occurred during the stimulation session. The ocular symptoms were significantly reduced during the stimulation session. Conclusions : Electrically elicited blink is a promising method for reducing the eye symptoms in individuals with acute facial nerve palsy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To assess the efficacy of injecting various amounts of fluid into the shoulder joints for capsule distension in patients with adhesive capsulitis. Design: A randomized controlled trial. Setting: Outpatient clinic of a tertiary care centre. Participants: Eighty-four patients with adhesive capsulitis underwent a baseline (time0), 6 weeks (time1), and 12 weeks (time2) follow-up after hydrodilitation. Intervention: Group 1 (n = 42) received 20 ml of lidocaine, steroid, and saline hydrodilatation via posterior glenohumeral recess, while Group 2 (n = 42) received 10 ml of lidocaine, steroid, and saline hydrodilitation. Main measures: The primary outcome was the visual analogue scale for pain. The secondary outcomes were shoulder pain and disability index (SPADI) and ROM of the shoulder. Results: There was a significant reduce in VAS scores for pain, SPADI scores, and increased shoulder ROM in both groups over time; however, the group-by-time interactions for any of the outcomes between groups were not significant except VAS pain in motion. Post-hoc pairwise analysis of the marginal effect of time and group showed that the significant difference of VAS in motion is due to time effect: time1 vs time0 (95% CI −4.09 to −2.68), time2 vs time0 (−4.21 to −2.77), and time2 vs time1 (−0.83 to 0.63), without between-group difference: group 1 vs group 2 (−0.38 to 0.59). Conclusion: Our study suggests hydrodilatation achieved an optimal effect at time1 for patients with adhesive capsulitis in both groups, and adding more saline offers additional benefits in flexion and external roatation until time2. Objective: To evaluate therapeutic footwear expectations and usability of individuals with diabetes and foot complications. Design: A prospective multicenter study was conducted on participants with a high risk of developing a diabetic foot ulcer. Setting: Participants were enrolled in 11 different specialized diabetic foot units in Spain between March 2022 and June 2023. Subjects: Patients with diabetes at moderate to high risk of foot ulceration receiving first therapeutic footwear prescription. Interventions: All the patients included in the research were prescribed with their first pair of therapeutic footwear. Main measures: Primary outcome measures were MOS-pre and MOS-post questionnaires evaluating use and usability of prescribed therapeutic footwear. Secondary outcome measures aimed to evaluate footwear clinical efficacy as ulceration rate and self-reported perceived walking distance per day. Results: The use of therapeutic footwear exceeded the patient's pre-provision prediction of their anticipated use in 94% of people (n = 126). Based on the visual analogic satisfaction scale, the median satisfaction of daily wearing their therapeutic footwear was 7 points, Interquartile Range (IQR) [5–8.25]. During the follow-up period, 39 participants (29.1%) experienced diabetic foot ulcer. Perceived walking distance participants reported an improvement in their perceived walking ability during various daily life activities. Conclusions: Diabetes patients at moderate to high risk of diabetic foot ulcer improved their perception of walking ability after therapeutic footwear prescription. Background: There is little evidence of the biomechanical performance of medial collateral ligament (MCL) reconstructions for restoring stability to the MCL-deficient knee regarding valgus, external rotation (ER), and anteromedial rotatory instability (AMRI). Hypothesis: A short isometric reconstruction will better restore stability than a longer superficial MCL (sMCL) reconstruction, and an additional deep MCL (dMCL) graft will better control ER and AMRI than single-strand reconstructions. Study Design: Controlled laboratory study. Methods: Nine cadaveric human knees were tested in a kinematics rig that allowed tibial loading while the knee was flexed-extended 0° to 100°. Optical markers were placed on the femur and tibia and displacements were measured using a stereo camera system. The knee was tested intact, and then after MCL (sMCL + dMCL) transection, and loaded in anterior tibial translation (ATT), ER, varus-valgus, and combined ATT + ER (AMRI loading). Five different isometric MCL reconstructions were tested: isolated long sMCL, a short construct, each with and without dMCL addition, and isolated dMCL reconstruction, using an 8 mm–wide synthetic graft. Results: MCL deficiency caused an increase in ER of 4° at 0° of flexion (P =.271) up to 14° at 100° of flexion (P =.002), and valgus laxity increased by 5° to 8° between 0° and 100° of flexion (P <.024 at 0°-90°). ATT did not increase significantly in isolated MCL deficiency (P >.999). All 5 reconstructions restored native stability across the arc of flexion apart from the isolated long sMCL, which demonstrated residual ER instability (P ≤.047 vs other reconstructions). Conclusion: All tested techniques apart from the isolated long sMCL graft are satisfactory in the context of restoring the valgus, ER, and AMRI stability to the MCL-deficient knee in a cadaveric model. Clinical Relevance: Contemporary MCL reconstruction techniques fail to control ER and therefore AMRI as they use a long sMCL graft and do not address the dMCL. This study compares 5 MCL reconstruction techniques. Both long and short isometric constructs other than the long sMCL achieved native stability in valgus and ER/AMRI. Double-strand reconstructions (sMCL + dMCL) tended to provide more stability. This study shows which reconstructions demonstrate the best biomechanical performance, informs surgical reconstruction techniques for AMRI, and questions the efficacy of current popular techniques. Introduction: Sleep disturbances are common among older adults and can have detrimental effects on their overall well-being. Tai Chi exercise has shown promise in improving sleep quality, quality of life (QoL), and psychological well-being in various populations. Objective: To investigate the effect of a home-based simplified Tai Chi exercise program on sleep quality, daytime sleepiness, QoL, and psychological well-being in Egyptian older adults. Methods: A quasi-experimental design was employed, with 152 participants aged 60 years and above assigned to either an experimental group (n = 87) or a control group (n = 65). Thecontrol group received a health education program to improve their sleeping quality and life-style, while the experimental group received a similar health education program and Tai Chi exercise training program. The participants in the experimental group were instructed to perform 3 months Tai Chi exercise. Data on sleep quality, daytime sleepiness, QoL, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), and depression symptoms were collected at baseline, and one month, and 3 months post-intervention using validated questionnaires. Repeated measures ANOVA was done to investigate the effectiveness of the intervention programsover 3 time periods. Results: The results showed significant improvements in sleep quality (p <.001), QoL (p <.005), GAD (p <.005), and depression symptoms (p <.005) post-interventions. Also, there were significant difference in the effectiveness of the intervention programs between both the experimental and control groups. The experimental group exhibited greater improvements compared to the control group. Conclusion: The findings support the beneficial effects of a home-based simplified Tai Chi exercise program on sleep quality, QoL, and psychological well-being in Egyptian older adults. These results have important implications for promoting healthy aging and improving overall well-being in this population. We investigated whether mood and lifestyle-related indicators of physical health are differentially expressed according to self-reported levels of depressive symptoms among young adults with a current episode of major depression. In a cross-sectional study, we recruited 94 young adults (females = 67, 71.3%; males = 27, 28.7%; aged 18–35 years) with a current episode of major depression. We assessed their mood with the Profile of Mood States (POMS), and Beck Anxiety Inventory-(BAI), sleep with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), physical activity with the Simple Physical Activity Questionnaire (SIMPAQ), and their cardiorespiratory fitness. Participants' depression levels were classified as follows using established cut-points: (a) Mild Depressive Symptoms (MIDS, BDI-II 14-19 points, n = 17), (b) Moderate Depressive Symptoms (MODS, BDI-II 20–28 points, n = 37) or (c) Severe Depressive Symptoms (SEDS, BDI-II 29–63 points, n = 40). As expected, we found that young adults with SEDS, when compared to those with MODS and MIDS, showed higher depressive mood on the POMS, and they exhibited greater anxiety symptoms, lower reported 'vigor' on physical activity measures, worse sleep quality as expressed by their global score sleep; daytime dysfunction; and sleep disturbance, and they showed lower cardiorespiratory fitness. Those with moderate depressive symptoms only differed from those with mild symptoms with respect to hostility, fatigue and mood disturbance. Although there was a gradient whereby worse mental and physical health indicators were more closely related to the SEDS depression categorization, while healthier indicators were associated with the MIDS category, some parameters were not different between the MDD severity groups, particularly when comparing MIDS and MODS. Data on the mechanism of kinesiology taping (KT) for providing mechanical support, facilitating or inhibiting muscles, and increasing functionality in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis (OA) have been contradictory, with no study evaluating acute muscle activation. Our aim in this study was to determine the acute effect of KT applied to the rectus femoris muscle on this muscle's activation, functionality and proprioception in patients with knee osteoarthritis. We divided 40 individuals diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis into two groups: (a) KT group (taping with tension facilitation) and (b) a placebo group (taping with no tension facilitation). We applied taping to the participants' left and right side rectus femoris muscles for 30 minutes, but with muscle facilitation in the KT group and without tension in the placebo group. We assessed participants for muscle activation with surface electromyography (sEMG), for functionality with the Timed Up and Go Test (TUG), and for proprioception/joint sense with the Five Times Sit-to-Stand Test (5TSTS) before and after taping. Demographic and clinical characteristics of the groups before these interventions were similar (p >.05). Muscle activation did not change significantly in either group compared to before taping (p >.05), but there were improvements in both knees for proprioception/joint sense (p <.05). Both groups were similar in terms of functionality (5TSTS, TUG) results (p >.05). We concluded that KT applied bilaterally to the rectus femoris did not affect rectus femoris muscle activation and functionality in patients with knee OA, but it did improve proprioception. Background: The approach to managing the footprint area and reconstructing the tendon-bone interface (TBI) is critical for optimal healing. Purpose: To evaluate the outcomes of the semi–bone tunnel (SBT) technique using a double-row suture bridge combined with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) hydrogel for rotator cuff repair in a rabbit model. Study Design: Controlled laboratory study. Methods: A total of 48 New Zealand White rabbits were divided into 4 groups. The supraspinatus tendons were severed at the footprint to create a rotator cuff tear model in the surgical groups. Rabbits were treated with the traditional onto-surface repair (control group), SBT technique (SBT group), and SBT technique combined with PRP hydrogel implantation (SBT+PRP group). The rabbits without surgery were the normal group. At 8 weeks after surgery, macroscopic observation, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and micro–computed tomography (μCT) examinations, histological evaluations, and biomechanical tests were performed to assess the curative effects of the given treatments. Results: The MRI results showed that the repaired supraspinatus tendon presented a uniform signal, minimal inflammatory response, and the lowest signal-to-noise quotient value in the SBT+PRP group. The μCT results suggested that the SBT technique did not reduce the local bone mineral density in the TBI area compared with the onto-surface repair technique. The histological staining results showed that the regenerated TBI in the SBT+PRP group had a 4-layer structure similar to the natural tissue. The highest values for biomechanical properties were observed in the SBT+PRP group, and there was no significant difference between the SBT+PRP group and normal group. Conclusion: The SBT technique presented a better tendon-bone healing effect for rotator cuff tear in the rabbit model compared with the traditional onto-surface repair technique. The specimens in the SBT+PRP group had a similar TBI structure and biomechanical properties to the natural tissue. Background: Anteromedial rotatory instability (AMRI) of the knee is a complex and severe condition caused by injury to the anterior cruciate ligament and/or the medial collateral ligament. Clinical studies dealing with AMRI are rare, and objective measurements are nonexistent. Purpose/Hypothesis: The objectives of this study were, first, to quantify anteromedial rotatory knee laxity in healthy individuals using a noninvasive image analysis software and, second, to assess intra- and interrater reliability and equivalence in measuring anteromedial knee translation (AMT). It was hypothesized that AMT could be reliably quantified using a noninvasive image analysis software. Study design: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3. Methods: This prospective proof-of-concept study included healthy individuals aged 16 to 40 years with no history of knee injury or surgery. Three adhesive surface markers were placed on predefined landmarks on the medial side of the knee. Three independent investigators examined anteromedial rotatory knee laxity with an anterior drawer test in different tibial rotations (neutral tibial rotation, 15° of external tibial rotation, and 15° of internal tibial rotation). The entire examination of each knee was recorded, and AMT including the side-to-side difference (SSD) was assessed using a freely available and validated image analysis software (PIVOT iPad application). Group comparisons were performed using a 1-way analysis of variance with Bonferroni-adjusted post hoc analysis. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) were calculated to assess inter- and intrarater reliability of AMT measurements. Equivalence of measurements was evaluated using the 2 one-sided t -test procedure. Results: Anteromedial rotatory knee laxity was assessed in 30 knees of 15 participants (53% male) with a mean age of 26.2 ± 3.5 years. In all 3 raters, the highest AMT was observed in neutral tibial rotation (range of means, 2.2-3.0 mm), followed by external tibial rotation (range of means, 2.0-2.4 mm) and internal tibial rotation (range of means, 1.8-2.2 mm; P <.05). Intrarater reliability of AMT (ICC, 0.88-0.96) and SSD (ICC, 0.61-0.96) measurements was good to excellent and moderate to excellent, respectively. However, interrater reliability was poor to moderate for AMT (ICC, 0.44-0.73) and SSD (ICC, 0.12-0.69) measurements. Statistically significant equivalence of AMT and SSD measurements was observed between and within raters for almost all testing conditions. Conclusion: Anteromedial rotatory knee laxity could be quantified using a noninvasive image analysis software, with the highest AMT observed during neutral tibial rotation in uninjured individuals. Background: Arthroscopic treatment of femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) and symptomatic labral tears confers short- to midterm benefits, yet further long-term evidence is needed. Moreover, despite the physiological and biomechanical significance of the chondrolabral junction (CLJ), the clinical implications of damage to this transition zone remain understudied. Purpose: To (1) report minimum 8-year survivorship and patient-reported outcome measures after hip arthroscopy for FAI and (2) characterize associations between outcomes and patient characteristics (age, body mass index, sex), pathological parameters (Tönnis angle, alpha angle, type of FAI, CLJ breakdown), and procedures performed (labral management, FAI treatment, microfracture). Study Design: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3. Methods: This retrospective cohort study included patients who underwent primary hip arthroscopy for symptomatic labral tears secondary to FAI by a single surgeon between 2002 and 2013. All patients were ≥18 years of age with minimum 8-year follow-up and available preoperative radiographs. The primary outcome was conversion to total hip arthroplasty (THA), and secondary outcomes included revision arthroscopy, patient-reported outcome measures, and patient satisfaction. CLJ breakdown was assessed using the Beck classification. Kaplan-Meier estimates and weighted Cox regression were used to estimate 10-year survivorship (no conversion to THA) and identify risk factors associated with THA conversion. Results: In this study of 174 hips (50.6% female; mean age, 37.8 ± 11.2 years) with mean follow-up of 11.1 ± 2.5 years, the 10-year survivorship rate was 81.6% (95% CI, 75.9%-87.7%). Conversion to THA occurred at a mean 4.7 ± 3.8 years postoperatively. Unadjusted analyses revealed several variables significantly associated with THA conversion, including older age; higher body mass index; higher Tönnis grade; labral debridement; and advanced breakdown of the CLJ, labrum, or articular cartilage. Survivorship at 10 years was inferior in patients exhibiting severe (43.6%; 95% CI, 31.9%-59.7%) versus mild (97.9%; 95% CI, 95.1%-100%) breakdown of the CLJ (P <.001). Multivariable analysis identified worsening CLJ breakdown (weighted hazard ratio per 1-unit increase, 6.41; 95% CI, 3.11-13.24), older age (1.09; 95% CI, 1.04-1.14), and higher Tönnis grade (4.59; 95% CI, 2.13-9.90) as independent negative prognosticators (P <.001 for all). Conclusion: Although most patients achieved favorable minimum 8-year outcomes, several pre- and intraoperative factors were associated with THA conversion; of these, worse CLJ breakdown, higher Tönnis grade, and older age were the strongest predictors. Background: It has been shown that chronic ankle instability (CAI) leads to abnormalities in neuromuscular control of more proximal joints than the ankle. Although strength of the hip and the ankle muscles has been largely investigated providing concordant results, limited evidence with contrasting results has been reported regarding knee extensor and flexor muscles. Purpose: To investigate maximal and submaximal isometric muscle strength in individuals with CAI. Study Design: Controlled laboratory study. Methods: Fifteen participants with unilateral CAI and 15 healthy matched controls were recruited. To quantify maximal strength, peak forces were recorded during a maximal isometric voluntary contraction of knee extensor and flexor muscles at 30° and 90° of knee flexion and normalized by the body weight of each participant. At both angles, submaximal isometric contractions at 20%, 50%, and 80% of the maximal voluntary isometric contraction were performed to analyze strength steadiness, in terms of coefficient of variation, and strength accuracy, in terms of absolute error. During all the assessments, knee extensor and flexor muscle activation was recorded by means of surface electromyography. Results: Knee flexor maximal isometric strength was significantly lower in the injured limb of individuals with CAI in comparison with healthy controls at both 30° (0.15 ± 0.05 vs 0.20 ± 0.05; P <.05) and 90° (0.14 ± 0.04 vs 0.18 ± 0.05; P <.05). Knee extensor and flexor steadiness was significantly lower (higher coefficient of variation) in both the injured and the noninjured limbs of individuals with CAI in comparison with healthy individuals at 90° and at 30° for knee flexor steadiness of the injured limb. Knee extensor and flexor accuracy was lower (higher absolute error) in both the injured and noninjured limbs of individuals with CAI in comparison with healthy individuals, mainly at 30°, while at 90° it was lower only in the injured limb. No differences between the 2 groups were found for maximal isometric strength of knee extensor muscles, as well as for muscle activations. Conclusion: Individuals with CAI show abnormalities in maximal and submaximal isometric strength of knee flexor muscles, and submaximal strength of the knee extensor muscles. Further studies should deeply investigate mechanisms leading to these abnormalities. Background: Time-dependent postoperative changes in knee joint line obliquity (KJLO) and subsequent adaptational changes in the hip and ankle joints have not been fully proven after medial open wedge high tibial osteotomy (MOWHTO). Purpose: To investigate the serial postoperative changes in KJLO and subsequent adaptational changes in the hip and ankle joints over time after MOWHTO. Study design: Case series, Level of evidence, 4. Methods: A total of 92 patients who underwent MOWHTO between April 2015 and December 2020 were evaluated. Radiographic parameters, including KJLO, ankle joint line obliquity (ALO), hip abduction angle (HAA), joint line convergence angle, weightbearing line ratio, and hip-knee-ankle angle, were analyzed in time sequence (preoperatively and 3, 6, 12, and 24 months postoperatively). Repeated-measures analysis of variance and post hoc analysis were used to demonstrate alterations and the statistical significance of KJLO and other related radiographic parameters over time. Results: The mean KJLO values were –1.9°, –2.1°, –2.7°, and –3.2° at 3, 6, 12, and 24 months postoperatively, respectively, indicating that there was consistent increase in valgus tilting of KJLO from 6 to 24 months (P <.001 for both 6-12 months and 12-24 months). ALO and HAA showed significant changes from 6 to 12 months (ALO, P <.001; HAA, P =.002), but not between 12 and 24 months (ALO: –3.0°, –2.7°, –1.9°, and −1.6°; HAA: –0.8°, –0.9°, –1.5°, and −1.8° at 3, 6, 12, and 24 months, respectively). The mean joint line convergence angle, weightbearing line ratio, and hip-knee-ankle angle did not change significantly from 3 months to 24 months postoperatively. Conclusion: There was a consistent increase in valgus tilting of the postoperative KJLO from 6 to 24 months after MOWHTO. The adaptive ALO and HAA significantly changed between 6 and 12 months and were maintained until 24 months after MOWHTO. Background: It is well known that rotator cuff repair is associated with an overall retear rate of 21% to 26%. However, a cuff retear may not necessarily be associated with poor clinical outcomes. Hypothesis: There would be no difference in clinical outcomes between patients with a cuff retear and those with an intact repair at a midterm follow-up of 5 years. Study Design: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted involving patients who received arthroscopic complete repair of the supraspinatus tendon between January 2009 and December 2017. Patients who did not have a postoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan or who had a follow-up of <5 years were excluded. Clinical outcomes, including the visual analog scale (VAS) score, American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score, and active forward flexion (FF) of the involved shoulder were assessed at the 2-year and 5-year follow-up points. Results: The study group included 105 patients with a mean follow-up of 85 months. MRI scans were performed at a mean of 20 months. Fourteen full-thickness cuff retears and 91 intact repairs were identified using postoperative MRI scans. Significant improvement in VAS score, ASES score, and FF were found between the preoperative assessment and the 2 designated follow-up points (2 years and 5 years) in both the cuff retear and the intact repair groups (P <.001). The VAS and ASES scores at the 2-year follow-up for the intact repair group were 1.8 ± 2.0 and 80.7 ± 18.1, respectively. The corresponding values for the retear group were 2.3 ± 2.2 and 71.9 ± 19.5, respectively. No significant difference was found between the 2 groups in the VAS and ASES scores at the 2-year follow-up. However, patients with an intact repair had a better VAS score (1.4 ± 1.8; P =.049) and ASES score (81.7 ± 17; P =.019) than those with a cuff retear at the 5-year assessment (3.0 ± 2.8 and 67.1 ± 22.9, respectively). In the intact repair group, 91% of patients achieved the minimal clinically important difference for the 5-year VAS score, compared with 54% in the cuff retear group (P <.001). The corresponding values for the 5-year ASES score were 80% and 54%, respectively (P =.044). FF measurements at the 5-year follow-up in patients with intact repair and those with a cuff retear were 161°± 23° and 144°± 37°, respectively (P =.059). Continuous improvement in VAS score and FF between the 2-year and 5-year follow-up was observed in the intact repair group (P =.005 and P =.04, respectively). Conclusion: The patients with an intact repair had better VAS and ASES scores compared with those who had a cuff retear at a midterm follow-up of 5 years. Background: Health systems cannot effectively support nurse managers without understanding psychosocial effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Objective: The objective of this study was to describe the professional quality of life of frontline nursing management during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A cross-sectional online survey of 54 nurses in management positions at a large Midwest academic medical center during 2022 was conducted. Participants completed an electronic survey including demographics, Professional Quality of Life Measure Version 5, and items assessing past consideration of and future intent to leave their position, organization, or profession. Results: Most participants had previously considered changing roles (80%) or leaving the organization during the pandemic (76%). Fewer respondents reported that changing role (24%) or organization (20%) was likely during the upcoming 6-12 months. Most participants scored in moderate ranges of Compassion Satisfaction, Burnout, and Secondary Traumatic Stress scales (85%, 89%, and 74%, respectively). Higher Compassion Satisfaction was associated with extreme unlikelihood of leaving for an internal non-management role. Higher Burnout scores were associated with more time working and past consideration or future likelihood of leaving for an external non-nursing position. Secondary Traumatic Stress scores were higher for nurse managers and house operation managers than assistant nurse managers and associated with past consideration of moving to an internal non-management role or external non-nursing position and future likelihood of moving to an external non-nursing position. Conclusions: Nurse management occupies a demanding position between frontline staff needs and administrative requirements, profoundly impacted by COVID-19. Background: Intensive and critical care nurses need to demonstrate ethical sensitivity especially in recognizing and dealing with ethical dilemmas particularly as they often care for patients living with life-threatening conditions. Theories suggest that there is a convergence between nurses' empathy and ethical sensitivity. Evidence in the literature indicates that nurses' emotional, demographic, and work characteristics are associated with their level of empathy and ethical sensitivity. Aim: To investigate the relationship between nurses' empathy and ethical sensitivity, considering their emotional states (depression, anxiety, and stress), demographic and work characteristics, and test an empirical model describing potential predictors of empathy (as a mediator) and ethical sensitivity using path analysis. Research design: Using a cross-sectional design, the philosophical theory of care ethics and empathy was extended and adopted as a conceptual framework for this study and tested by path analysis. Participants and research context: Data were collected from 347 intensive care nurses recruited by ten educational-medical hospitals in Iran using a questionnaire between February and March 2021. Ethical considerations: The study was reviewed by the Ethical Advisory Board in Iran and conducted according to the Declaration of Helsinki. Findings: Study participants demonstrated a mild level of stress, anxiety, and depression, alongside a relatively high level of empathy and ethical sensitivity. Nurses with good socioeconomic status had higher empathetic behavior with patients than those with weak status. Nurses aged over 40 who had received ethics training and had higher work experience were associated with higher ethical sensitivity compared to nurses under 20 years of age. Empathy directly affected ethical sensitivity; however, anxiety had an indirect effect on ethical sensitivity through empathy. Among demographic factors, age had a positive direct effect on ethical sensitivity. Childhood traumas have been considered risk factors for many psychiatric disorders. Recent studies demonstrated that childhood traumas can also be considered risk factors for neurological diseases. In this context, the objective of this study is to investigate the effects of childhood traumas on treatment resistance in patients with epilepsy. The study sample consisted of 85 epilepsy patients, 40 male and 45 female, who were diagnosed and followed up by a neurologist. Of these patients, 45 were being followed up with the diagnosis of refractory epilepsy, and 40 were being followed up with the diagnosis of treatment-responsive epilepsy. Cranial magnetic resonance imaging and electroencephalography were performed on all patients. In addition, all patients were administered childhood trauma questionnaire (CTQ) and Hamilton depression rating scale (HAM-D). Epilepsy patients included in the study were divided into refractory epilepsy and treatment-responsive epilepsy groups. There was no significant difference between the groups in sociodemographic characteristics. On the other hand, total CTQ and all CTQ subscale scores and HAM-D scores were significantly higher in the refractory epilepsy group than in the treatment-responsive epilepsy group. This study demonstrates that childhood traumas may contribute to treatment resistance in epilepsy patients. Objective: This study investigates the influence of aerobic exercise training on inhibitory control of executive functions in children with hemiplegic cerebral palsy. Design: Single-blind randomized controlled trial. Setting: Outpatient Physical Therapy Clinic. Participants: Children aged 7–11 with left-sided hemiplegic cerebral palsy with emotional and behavioral dysregulation evidenced by scores >28 on Paediatric Symptom Checklist and GMFCS I or II (n = 60). Intervention: Participants were randomly allocated into two equal groups. The control group received standard-of-care physical therapy for 1 h, and the aerobic exercise group received standard-of-care physical therapy for 30 min and moderate-intensity continuous exercise on a bicycle ergometer for 30 min. All groups received treatment three times a week for 12 weeks. Main Measures: The Eriksen Flanker test and Stroop Color–Word test were used to assess inhibitory control of executive function at the baseline and after 12 weeks. Results: Differences between pre- and post-treatment values in the exercise group showed significant improvement in Flanker response accuracy and Stroop response accuracy (p = 0.001) and significant decreases in Flanker congruent reaction time and Stroop congruent reaction time (p < 0.05). However, there were no significant differences between both groups in Flanker incongruent reaction time and Stroop incongruent reaction time (p > 0.05). There is substantial research on the nature of gender prescriptive and proscriptive stereotypes. However, there has been relatively little work on whether these normative stereotypes are equally attributed to men and women of different identities. Across two studies (total N = 928), we assessed the extent to which stereotypes are prescribed and proscribed for men and women of different sexual orientations (Study 1) and races (Study 2) in the United States. We asked participants to rate the desirability of possessing 70 traits based on an "average American." Although results showed the persistence of gender normative stereotypes in society, the normative nature of these stereotypes was influenced by sexual orientation and race. There was strong evidence of a heterocentric bias, as normative stereotypes of generic men and women most closely aligned with those of straight men and women. There was weaker evidence of a Eurocentric bias. Furthermore, observed gender differences in normative stereotypes were significantly smaller for sexually- and racially-minoritized targets compared to straight and White targets. These findings combined suggest that the practices and policies that attempt to address gender inequality might not be as effective for people with multiply-marginalized identities that face distinctly different patterns of normative pressures. Background: Many people with cystic fibrosis (PwCF) have chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS). CRS requires additional management beyond that of pulmonary disease and leads to increased utilization of healthcare resources. Elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor (ETI) is a highly effective modulator therapy that has been shown to improve CRS in PwCF. However, the impact of ETI on rhinologic healthcare utilization is understudied. Objective: To compare rates of rhinologic healthcare utilization and procedures among PwCF prior to and after initiating ETI therapy. Methods: A single-center, cohort study investigating adult PwCF was performed in January 2023. Demographics, clinical characteristics, and data related to CF treatment were retrospectively abstracted. Characteristics of the cohort were compared over 2 periods: the 12-months prior to ETI initiation and the 12-months after ETI initiation. Post-ETI data were linearly extrapolated if a subject had not yet completed the full 12 months of ETI. Paired t-testing, Wilcoxon signed rank testing, and regression analysis were performed. Results: Of 126 PwCF, 98 (77.8%) were on ETI therapy and 35 (27.7%) were both on ETI and concurrently followed by the rhinology service (ETI-ENT). Rhinology clinic visits (P =.007) and frequency of obtaining nasal cultures (P =.046) decreased for the ETI-ENT cohort after initiating ETI treatment. There were no significant changes in the number of endoscopic sinus surgeries (P =.452) performed. Beyond ETI use, regression analysis did not identify any factors associated with changes in utilization. Conclusion: Aspects of rhinology healthcare utilization by PwCF decreased after initiation of ETI therapy. Background: Current classification systems for intra-articular pathology intraoperatively have been described for patients with femoroacetabular impingement rather than dysplasia. Purpose: To (1) describe intra-articular findings in dysplastic hips undergoing combined hip arthroscopy and periacetabular osteotomy (PAO); (2) propose a new chondrolabral classification system for dysplastic hips based on these findings; and (3) correlate patient-reported outcome measures (PROM) with the newly proposed classification. Study Design: Case series; Level of evidence, 4. Methods: A total of 46 hips underwent combined hip arthroscopy and PAO at our institution between September 2013 and December 2014, irrespective of symptoms or radiographic findings. PROMs were evaluated preoperatively and at 2 years postoperatively. At the time of hip arthroscopy, the chondrolabral junction was classified as normal without tear (1 hip, type 1); hypertrophic labrum without chondrolabral disruption (19 hips, type 2); chondrolabral disruption on the articular side, not extending into the capsular side (16 hips, type 3A); chondrolabral disruption extending through the capsular side (3 hips, type 3B); and exposed acetabular subchondral bone (7 hips, type 4). Results: There was a significant difference in postoperative modified Harris Hip Score (mHHS) (P =.020), Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) pain scores (P =.037), and WOMAC total scores (P =.049) between chondrolabral junction types. Post hoc analyses demonstrated significant differences between type 2 (84.9 ± 12.9) and type 3A (67.8 ± 20.7; P =.198), and between type 2 and type 4 (59.3 ± 24.3; P =.011) in postoperative mHHS scores; and between type 2 (83.9 ± 12.9) and type 3A (68.9 ± 23.7; P =.045) in postoperative WOMAC total scores. In multivariate analysis, chondrolabral type 3 or type 4, age >35 years, and previous surgery were significantly correlated with worse mHHS scores at 2 years. Conclusion: This new chondrolabral classification is proposed to describe intra-articular pathology seen during combined hip arthroscopy and PAO, specifically in dysplastic hips. Background: Quantitative analysis of the glenoid face knotless-type anchor placement for arthroscopic Bankart repair has not been reported. Purpose: To evaluate the clinical and radiologic outcomes after arthroscopic Bankart repair using knotless bioabsorbable anchors depending on the anchor location. Study design: Case series, Level of evidence, 4. Methods: A total of 124 patients (113 men and 11 women; age, 25.6 ± 7.5 years; follow-up time, 46.5 ± 18.2 months [range, 6.2-75.5 months]) who underwent arthroscopic Bankart repair with the bioabsorbable knotless anchor between 2017 and 2021 were included in this study. Among them, 118 patients were observed for >2 years (mean, 48.2 ± 16.8 months [range, 24-75.5 months]) and were analyzed for final clinical and radiologic outcomes. Using postoperative 6-month magnetic resonance imaging, remnant glenoid (%) and labral height were measured. Shoulder range of motion (ROM), radiographic osteoarthritic change, dislocation, apprehension test, and return to sports were recorded. Three groups were established based on the remnant glenoid, which represented the percentage of the exposed glenoid anteroposterior diameter to the original diameter using the best-fit circle method—group A: lower quartile; group B: interquartile; and group C: upper quartile—and variables were analyzed. Results: Overall, the remnant glenoid was 57% ± 6.4% (range, 41.5%-75%) after the surgery. Osteoarthritic change, dislocations, and positive apprehension tests were observed in 5 (4.2%), 4 (3.4%), and 12 (10.2%) patients, respectively. A total of 34 (28.8%) and 64 (54.2%) patients could return to sports without and with restrictions, respectively. Comparing groups A, B, and C, postoperative labral height (7 ± 1, 7 ± 2, and 7 ± 1 mm; P =.623), final osteoarthritic change (1, 4, and 0; P =.440), positive apprehension tests (5, 5, and 2; P =.387), and return to sports (complete/restricted/unable, 6/18/5, 19/29/11, 9/17/4; P =.769) were not different. All ROM were similar across the groups (all P >.054), except for external rotation (ER) at postoperative 6 months (41.3°± 12.8°; 50.2°± 18.5°; and 49.8°± 15.2°; P =.050). However, ER after 1 year was similar across the groups (all P >.544). In further analysis, patients with positive apprehension tests had lower labral height compared with others (5 [4-6] mm and 7 [6-8] mm; P <.001). Conclusion: In arthroscopic Bankart repair, the placement of knotless bioabsorbable anchors on the glenoid face, combined with the remplissage procedure or rotator interval closure, resulted in a low recurrence rate and moderate return to sports. However, most patients had some restrictions in returning to sports. Moreover, this technique was not associated with postoperative arthritis and shoulder stiffness, including ER deficit, which was not affected by the position of the anchor on the glenoid face for a minimum 2-year follow-up. Background: Chronic ankle instability (CAI) is a clinical sequela that causes the recurrence of ankle sprain by inducing ankle sensorimotor dysfunction. Animal models of CAI have recently shown that ankle ligament injuries mimicking an ankle sprain result in chronic loss of ankle sensorimotor function. However, the underlying mechanisms determining the pathogenesis of CAI remain unclear. Hypothesis: Ankle instability after an ankle sprain leads to the degeneration of the mechanoreceptors, resulting in ankle sensorimotor dysfunction and the development of CAI. Study Design: Controlled laboratory study. Methods: Four-week-old male Wistar rats (N = 30) were divided into 2 groups: (1) the ankle joint instability (AJI) group with ankle instability induced by transecting the calcaneofibular ligament (n = 15) and (2) the sham group (n = 15). Ankle instability was assessed using the anterior drawer test and the talar tilt test at 4, 6, and 8 weeks after the operation (n = 5, for each group at each time point), and ankle sensorimotor function was assessed using behavioral tests, including ladder walking and balance beam tests, every 2 weeks during the postoperative period. Morphology and number of mechanoreceptors in the intact anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) were histologically analyzed by immunofluorescence staining targeting the neurofilament medium chain and S100 proteins at 4, 6, and 8 weeks postoperatively (n = 5 per group). Sensory neurons that form mechanoreceptors were histologically analyzed using immunofluorescence staining targeting the mechanosensitive ion channel PIEZO2 at 8 weeks postoperatively (n = 5). Results: Ankle sensorimotor function decreased over time in the AJI group, exhibiting decreased ankle instability compared with the sham group (P =.045). The number of mechanoreceptors in the ATFL was reduced (P <.001) and PIEZO2 expression in the sensory neurons decreased (P =.008) at 8 weeks postoperatively. The number of mechanoreceptors was negatively correlated with ankle sensorimotor dysfunction (P <.001). Conclusion: The AJI model demonstrated degeneration of the mechanoreceptors in the ATFL and decreased mechanosensitivity of the sensory neurons, which may contribute to CAI. Clinical Relevance: Ankle instability causes degeneration of mechanoreceptors and decreases the mechanosensitivity of sensory neurons involved in the development of CAI. Objective: To comparatively evaluate performances of tablet-based versus paper-based Venous Insufficiency Epidemiologic and Economic Study-Quality of Life/Symptom (VEINES-QOL/Sym) questionnaire. Methods: We prospectively evaluated 78 consecutive patients who completed tablet-based and paper-based VEINES-QOL/Sym questionnaires and compared their scores, completion time, data entry time, and ease of use. We used Student's t-test and Wilcoxon test for quantitative variables, Bland–Altman test and kappa coefficient for agreement between questionnaires and patients, respectively. Spearman's correlation coefficient was used to assess correlations. Results: Most participants (83.3%) found it easier to use the tablet device. Less time was needed to complete the tablet-based (median, 4.75; IQR, 3–7 min) than the paper-based (median, 8.3; IQR, 6.3–11.3 min) questionnaire (p <.001). Better educated patients took less time to complete paper-based (p =.003) and tablet-based (p =.001) questionnaires and considered the latter easier to use (p =.010). Typical visual perception includes an attention bias toward right hemisphere mediated global, holistic cortical processing. An atypically local, detail-oriented focus of attention is characteristic of left hemisphere processing and is often observed in patients whose field of attention is restricted by certain types of neurocognitive impairment. We designed the present pair of studies to induce a local attentional focus to observe its consequences on neurocognitive measures of visuospatial processing. In Experiment I, participants wore glasses mimicking simultanagnosia, a disorder of visual attention, to induce a narrowed, atypical attentional style while they completed visual neuropsychological tasks. This simulation impaired participants' capacities to visually synthesize and efficiently reproduce Complex Figure stimuli as measured with the Boston Qualitative Scoring System (BQSS), and it induced an atypical attentional style on Rorschach Performance Assessment System (R-PAS) responses. In Experiment II, participants wore glasses designed to provoke differential hemispheric activation, also hypothesized to influence style of visual attention; but this manipulation did not influence neurocognitive task performance. Background: Aortic aneurysms represent a chronic degenerative disease with life-threatening implications. In order for patients to comprehend health related information, it must be written at a level that can be readily understood. Study Design: In January 2023, we searched "aneurisma aorta" and "endoprótesis aorta" terms on Google, Yahoo and Microsoft/Bing. The 31th websites provided by each search engine were analyzed. Four readability measures were used to evaluate websites regarding aortic aneurysm and their endovascular treatment in Spanish language: Flesch Index, Flesch-Szigriszt Index, Fernández-Huerta Index and grading Inflesz scale. The quality on information was evaluated by the HONcode seal, the DISCERN instrument and the JAMA benchmark criteria. Results: 180 websites containing the terms "aneurisma aorta" and "endoprótesis aorta" were analyzed. Among the websites retrieved, the mean Flesh index score (53.12 ± 6.09 and 47.48 ± 7.12, respectively; P =.019), the Flesch-Szigriszt index (56.39 ± 5.72 and 48.10 ± 8.33; P =.000), and the Fernández Huerta index (61.30 ± 5.59 and 53.19 ± 8.21; P =.000), corresponding to a "somewhat difficult" readability level. In addition, the Inflesz scale (2.62 ±.59 and 2.07 ±.61; P =.000) reported a "somewhat difficult" readability, higher for the websites regarding aortic aneurysm. The HONcode seal was only presented in websites regarding aortic aneurysm (16.7%), whereas none of the websites relating to aortic endoprostheses presented it (0%) (P =.000). Websites that presented the HONcode seal obtained higher DISCERN score (P =.000, 95% CI = 6.42-16.84) and JAMA score (P =.000, 95% CI = 3.44-11.32). School-based programs are an important tobacco prevention tool. Yet, existing programs are not suitable for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing (DHH) youth. Moreover, little research has examined the use of the full range of tobacco products and related knowledge in this group. To address this gap and inform development of a school-based tobacco prevention program for this population, we conducted a pilot study among DHH middle school (MS) and high school (HS) students attending Schools for the Deaf and mainstream schools in California (n = 114). American Sign Language (ASL) administered surveys, before and after receipt of a draft curriculum delivered by health or physical education teachers, assessed product use and tobacco knowledge. Thirty-five percent of students reported exposure to tobacco products at home, including cigarettes (19%) and e-cigarettes (15%). Tobacco knowledge at baseline was limited; 35% of students knew e-cigarettes contain nicotine, and 56% were aware vaping is prohibited on school grounds. Current product use was reported by 16% of students, most commonly e-cigarettes (12%) and cigarettes (10%); overall, 7% of students reported dual use. Use was greater among HS versus MS students. Changes in student knowledge following program delivery included increased understanding of harmful chemicals in tobacco products, including nicotine in e-cigarettes. Post-program debriefings with teachers yielded specific recommendations for modifications to better meet the educational needs of DHH students. Findings based on student and teacher feedback will guide curriculum development and inform next steps in our program of research aimed to prevent tobacco use in this vulnerable and heretofore understudied population group. Background: Intra-articular (IA) platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) injections have shown efficacy and safety in treating osteoarthritis (OA). However, the effectiveness and mechanisms of combined intraosseous (IO) administration of these orthobiologics have yet to be explored. Purpose/Hypothesis: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect on pain, cartilage, synovium/infrapatellar fat pad (IFP), and subchondral bone in rat knee OA, comparing isolated IA with combined IA and IO (IA+IO) injections of PRP or BMAC. It was hypothesized that combined injections would be superior to sole IA injections. Study Design: Controlled laboratory study. Methods: A total of 48 rats were divided into 6 groups: sham (only joint puncture during OA induction with IA+IO saline injection treatment) and 5 groups with OA induction, control (IA+IO saline injection), PRP (IA PRP+IO saline injection), BMAC IA (IA BMAC+IO saline injection), PRP IA+IO (IA+IO PRP injection), and BMAC IA+IO (IA+IO BMAC injection). OA was induced by IA injection of monosodium iodoacetate (MIA). Rats were administered different orthobiologics according to their grouping 3 weeks after the MIA injection. Pain changes were evaluated using the weightbearing ratio assay at weeks 3, 4, 5, 7, and 9 after OA induction. Rats were euthanized at week 9 for gross, radiological, histological, immunohistochemical, and immunofluorescence assessments of cartilage, synovium, and subchondral bone. Results: Compared with the control group, all orthobiologics injection groups had reduced joint pain. Compared with IA injection, IA+IO injections provided superior pain relief by suppressing calcitonin gene-related peptide and substance P in both the synovium/IFP and subchondral bone. IA+IO injections slowed the progression of subchondral bone lesions by inhibiting CD31hiEmcnhi vessel formation and excessive osteoclast and osteoblast turnover while preserving subchondral bone microarchitecture, slowing cartilage degeneration. However, IA+IO injections did not outperform isolated IA injections in reducing synovitis and synovium/IFP fibrosis. Compared with PRP, BMAC exhibited superior inhibition of pain-related mediators, but no significant differences were observed in synovitis suppression, infrapatellar fat pad fibrosis, and subchondral bone protection. Conclusion: IA+IO injections of orthobiologics were more effective in relieving pain, slowing cartilage degeneration, and inhibiting abnormal vascularization and remodeling compared with isolated IA injections. BMAC showed superior pain relief in the synovium/IFP and subchondral bone compared with PRP. Further research is needed to optimize PRP and BMAC components for enhanced efficacy in OA management. Background: Hip arthroscopy has become the mainstay surgical intervention for the treatment of femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS). However, postoperative outcomes and rates of secondary surgery are mixed in patients with differing levels of preoperative osteoarthritis (OA). Furthermore, there is a paucity of literature comparing patients with and without OA at long-term follow-up. Purpose: To compare outcomes and rates of secondary surgery at minimum 10-year follow-up, including revision hip arthroscopy and conversion to total hip arthroplasty (THA), in patients with Tönnis grade 1 undergoing hip arthroscopy for FAIS compared with a propensity-matched control group of patients with Tönnis grade 0. Study Design: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3. Methods: Patients who underwent primary hip arthroscopy for FAIS between January 2012 and February 2013 were identified. Patients with Tönnis grade 1 were propensity matched in a 1:2 ratio by age, sex, and body mass index (BMI) to patients with Tönnis grade 0. Patient-reported outcomes (PROs) were collected at varying timepoints including preoperatively and 1, 2, 5, and 10 years postoperatively and compared between the 2 cohorts. Rates of minimal clinically important difference (MCID) and Patient Acceptable Symptom State (PASS) achievement at 10 years were evaluated and compared between groups. Rates of secondary surgery including revision hip arthroscopy and conversion to total hip arthroplasty (THA) were evaluated. Gross survivorship between cohorts was evaluated using a Kaplan-Meier gross survivorship curve. A subanalysis was performed comparing patients with Tönnis grade 1 who converted to THA and those who did not. Results: A total of 31 patients with Tönnis grade 1 (age, 42.6 ± 9.0 years; BMI, 28.0 ± 6.3) were successfully matched to 62 patients with Tönnis grade 0 (age, 42.1 ± 8.5, P =.805; BMI, 26.1 ± 3.9, P =.117). Both the Tönnis grade 1 and Tönnis grade 0 groups demonstrated significant improvements regarding all PROs at minimum 10 years (P <.05 for all), except for the Hip Outcome Score Activities of Daily Living subscale (HOS-ADL) (P =.066) in the Tönnis grade 1 cohort. No significant difference (P >.05 for all) was noted between cohorts regarding any 10-year PRO. When the authors evaluated comparisons between preoperative and 1-, 2-, 5-, and 10-year PRO measures, significant differences were noted between cohorts regarding 2-year HOS-ADL (P =.021), Hip Outcome Score Sports-Specific subscale (P =.016), and modified Harris Hip Score (P =.026); otherwise, differences did not reach significance. High rates of 10-year MCID and PASS achievement were seen, with no significant differences between groups. Patients with Tönnis grade 1 had significantly higher rates of conversion to THA compared with patients who had Tönnis grade 0 (25.8% vs 4.8%; P =.006). Patients with Tönnis grade 1 had significantly lower gross survivorship compared with those who had Tönnis grade 0 (71.0% vs 85.5%, respectively; P =.04). Conclusion: Hip arthroscopy confers comparable postoperative clinical improvements to patients who have FAIS with and without mild OA; however, the benefits among patients with mild OA may be less durable. Patients with Tönnis grade 1 had significantly higher conversion to THA and reduced gross survivorship compared with patients with no evidence of preoperative OA, suggesting that patients with evidence of OA may need to be cautioned on the higher rate of conversion surgery.
