The article focuses on social process in deep South. This paper will discuss the Deep South as a region, with specific focus on its organization and its social processes, and will contrast the South with the North along these dimensions. Of the existing approaches, the psychological study of southern attitudes is most frequently used, and it is clear that most southerners favor segregation. A focus on the distribution of attitudes and their developmental dynamics is relevant, but more knowledge is needed about how these are expressed. A pluralistic society is one in which numerous groups have public access to one another and to government, so that a relatively large proportion of individuals are involved in public discussion. Deep South is the least pluralistic of the regions and harbors less "public opinion process" in the sense of controversial public discussion, and that these characteristic inhibit change toward desegregation.

The article discusses public welfare and social work. For more than a decade, social case work literature has dealt increasingly with the psychological approach, emphasis, and aspects in social case work. Yet not often have there appeared explicit statements as to the scope and nature of the contribution of psychology to this field. This paper attempts to show some of the sources, types, and uses of the contributions of psychology in concepts and terminology, principles and directions of emphasis, specific techniques and tools, to the theory and practice of social case work. Psychology is not to be given the entire credit for all, nor even for most of the contributions listed later. Many of them are concepts or principles which have evolved through the ages, but have been most recently formulated by psychology before passing on to social case work. Others are the joint products of several disciplines. Still others have come to fruition and have found their fullest expression in case work, but have grown from suggestions and direction of emphasis afforded by psychology.

The conviction that psychology should be of value for the study of social phenomena and for the guidance of social action has a tendency to lead to hasty generalizations and to breed somewhat extravagant hopes. This conclusion ape plies with some force to the conclusions which have been drawn from the results of mental tests and their value in social practice. In spite of the emphasis which sociologists have come to place on the factor of culture in the explanation of social behavior, the popular tendency is to confuse that which is acquired with that which is innate. Mental and social differences between the sexes are seemingly so easily to be explained as results of supposedly obvious innate differences in biological makeup. Individual achievement is looked on as a matter of innate capacity. Differences in cultural level between different races and peoples are closely identified with racial abilities, and social and occupational stratification is thought by many to coincide with a natural mental stratification.

This survey makes quite explicit the willingness of the social sciences and demography to initiate or expand teaching, research, and training on population policy. The disciplines now differ greatly in these activities. Of the 117 suggestions for research on policy, 41 are related to policy content; 16 to policy initiative and implementation; 47 to policy evaluation; and 13 to policy philosophy. The social scientists identified thirteen barriers which obstruct them from undertaking the needed research. Nine of the same barriers were named by the demographers. Barriers associated with the academic profession itself include expertise or technical competence, data limitations, ideology, professional identification, intellectual priorities, and role strains. The article discusses education system and new children's literature in the Soviet Union. Social philosophers have always speculated on the possibility of consciously directing the course of societal evolution through the control of educational agencies. For the purpose of building a new social order through the metamorphosis of the individual psychology of its children, the Soviet leaders have reorganized the entire educational system from the top to bottom, harnessing to it every vehicle of extra-mural education. One of the most important instruments of educational planning in the Soviet Union, however, is its children's literature, a literature which in many respects is entirely new. The new children's literature in the Soviet Union is powerfully direct, idiomatic and not subtle. Its purpose is frank and obvious. It glorifies the machine, finding in it more than an adequate substitute for the old fairy tales. It pokes fun at the sentimental romanticism of old the nation, its religiousness and superstition and emphasizes the solidarity and dignity of labor and the needs and values of collective and cooperative living under the new society.

This article focuses on the social action which may be a natural and desired manifestation of human behavior. Individuals gather together in an attempt to abolish the inequities in the society and even for such things as attempting to make each other aware of the problems faced by man in this very dynamic social structure. Life-space refers to that area, physical, sociological, psychological, that defines the space of free movement for each individual. Sociologist maintains that the space of free movement can be represented by topology: that is, a region of relatively free movement, encircled by regions that are not accessible by the individual or any members of the group to which he is a member. The life-space of the individual may not be as finite as the above definition implies. It is possible for individuals to have some areas in which they are permitted to move with certain restrictions, at certain times and in specified manners. Likewise, they may have some regions that are completely closed off to them.
