Cancer research is occasionally described as being in a reproducibility crisis. The cancer literature has ample papers retracted due to misconduct, including the use of paper mills, invalid authorship, or fake data. The objective of this paper was to gain an appreciation of the balance of retractions and associated retraction notices of 23 retracted Cancer Biotherapy and Radiopharmaceuticals papers associated with paper mills. By 23 March 2023, these retracted papers had already accumulated 287 citations according to Web of Science Core Collection, 253 according to Scopus, and 365 according to Google Scholar, i.e., metrically speaking, they were highly rewarded. All authors had an affiliation (71% being a hospital) in China. Most (12/21; 57%) of corresponding authors had emails with a @163.com suffix. Four of the retraction notices (i.e., 17%) explicitly indicated paper mills as a reason for retraction although, in general, the retraction notices lacked details and background that could assist readers' understanding of the retractions. IPPTA (Indian Pulp and Paper Technical Association) Journal is a well-known journal in the Indian pulp and paper fraternity with a publishing history of fifty-five years. This study presents a bibliometric overview of articles published in the IPPTA Journal during 2005-2019. This is the first bibliometric study of a journal completely dedicated to pulp and paper research. The bibliometric analysis included analysis of article distribution, subject classification, authorship pattern, author productivity and collaboration, geographical distribution, references, keywords, prominent institutions, and citations. It also accounts for Lotka's law of scientific productivity, relative growth rate, doubling time, frequently contributing authors and top-cited articles. It was found that during this period 830 articles were published in IPPTA Journal. The average number of articles published per year in the journal is ~56. A total of 2361 authors from 27 countries and 339 unique institutes were identified in these articles. These articles contained 1009 unique keywords, used 5968 references, and received 561 citations. 74.10% of articles were contributed by joint authors. Out of the total 5968 references cited in this journal during the period of study, 48.51% were sourced from journal articles. The overall degree of collaboration, modified collaboration coefficient, average author per article, productivity per article, and collaboration index were calculated to be 0.7410, 0.5030, 2.8446, 0.3515, and 3.8390, respectively. Nonetheless, highlighting various interesting features, this analysis also detected certain inadequacies that need to be resolved for further improvement of this journal. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article analyses Italian illustrated editions of Little Women published between 1908 and 1945. After an overview of the publishing history of the novel in Italy, the paper will examine Italian illustrations as hermeneutic tools in order to examine their ideological function in the representation of gender. The belated reception of Alcott's novel in Italy, caused by its representation of a nonconformist educational model for girls, is mirrored in the tension between the nationalistic drive and the influence of foreign models that can be pinpointed in the illustrated editions. By analyzing adaptations of American illustrations, original Italian creations, and omissions of iconic illustrations, this paper will unveil how much the visual element is embedded in the Italian historical and cultural context, as the choice (or omission) of particular images impacted the interpretation of the book. By examining the Italian editions of Little Women published in this time frame, we will also be able to retrace the links with the American illustrated history of the book and bear testimony to the powerful impact of the 1934 film version on printed editions. The article discusses the publication of the book "Hortus Eystettensis," by Basilius Besler. The price of the book at the time of its initial printing, the development of a trade and a deluxe version of the work, and the types of paper on which the books were printed are examined. Explanations for the appearance of deluxe issues printed on inferior paper, trade issues lacking text verso, and patronage during the early 17th century are also discussed.

This study aimed at determining the publication trend in Islamic medical ethics; finally, a road map was designed. All published English and Persian papers in Islamic medical ethics were searched until June 2017. Finally, 971 English papers and 204 Persian papers were analyzed. Our results show that publication in Islamic medical ethics started in 1973. The beginning of life was considered the most favorable subject followed by public health and biotechnology by both Iranian and non-Iranian scholars. In Victorian Britain rags were not only associated with the inadequate clothing of the poor, they were also viewed as a valuable commodity, widely collected for recycling into paper. This essay examines rags as simultaneously despised and precious objects, tracing the connections between Victorian accounts of poverty, the industrial recycling of rags into paper, and the redemption narratives created by Charles Dickens about rescued children. A supporter of Ragged Schools and champion of rags recycling, Dickens drew on the idea of the transformation of dirty rags into clean paper in his representations of ragged children. To him, the recycling of rags indicated the civilizing forces of modernity, and reading Dickens's representations of ragged children in this context reveals how cloth recycling became a paradigm for society's duties towards destitute children. This essay explains Dickens's juxtaposition of ragged children with references to rag-dealing in his novels; by this means he suggested that street children, like their ragged clothing, were capable of being purified and transformed into social usefulness. This article describes the history of the journal published by the UK Market research Society (MRS). The reasons for introducing a journal are discussed, and the competitive context, at that time and onwards. Changes in the format, title and content of the journal over time are described, and its evolution from an in-house production to its current status within the journal portfolio of a leading international academic publishing house. The changing nature of the two main communities with the most interest in the journal, academics and practitioners, are described and the impact on the journal are discussed. While the history of the humanities is rapidly expanding as a new field of study, questions about diversity and inclusiveness of the field have rarely been addressed. An examination of the papers presented at the Making of the Humanities conferences and the articles published in the History of Humanities journal shows that the field is far from diverse. In this essay, I argue that pursuing greater diversity is fruitful for the field because it helps to avoid gaps and biases, uncovers interactions and influences across regions, debunks myths in the history of the humanities, and allows for finding global trends that are left unnoticed otherwise. I will offer three suggestions—for researchers, teachers, and the Society for the History of the Humanities—for how we can turn the history of the humanities into a more diverse and inclusive field. This paper utilises a systematic review of 110 Polish corporate histories to explore the question of how the genre of corporate history has evolved over time in a country that has undergone multiple transitions. The corporate histories subjected to review were published in three different historical periods: prior to World War II, during the socialist period and following the transition to capitalism. The analysis is focussed on both formal and thematic features of Polish corporate history as a genre. This paper contributes to the business history literature in three ways. First, it showcases some unique features of relatively unknown corporate histories in the Polish context. Second, it provides an empirical illustration of the process of genre evolution by analysing continuity and change in corporate histories published over three different historical periods. This paper explores the multifaceted cultural history of ghost trains in Victorian fiction by situating three little-known ghost stories in the publishing and social history of the second half of the nineteenth century. The figure of the ghost train offers a route into the entangled history of publishing and railways by contextualising the anxieties presented in railway ghost stories with the real-world experiences of passengers. Taking ideas of mobility as a focal point, this paper brings together discussions of virtual travel and the supernatural to demonstrate some of the impact railways had on reading and writing about train travel. More so than tales of other haunted transport technologies, it is the ghost train's unnatural capacity for movement that disturbs both passengers and readers. By both enhancing and warping reality, railways are ripe source material for Victorian ghost stories to entertain and demand questions of spatio-temporal experience from their reading passengers. The article aims to explore ways of theorizing in accounting history research. The article draws on findings originating from a semi-automated text analysis by means of topic modelling of 1,300 accounting history papers published between 1996 and 2015 across six journals most relevant to the discipline. Findings show the presence of a whole range of ways of theorizing at different levels of abstraction (from narrating to conceptualizing to theorizing settings to grand theorizing). Different ways of theorizing tend to be associated not only with specific research objects but also with specific journal types. Overall, both narrating and grand theorizing are relatively decreasing in favour of mid-range theorizing approaches, which seem to be on the rise. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Between c.1845 and 1900 the firm of Alfred Marne in Tours produced enormous amounts of books for youngsters in paper case bindings covered with embossed coloured paper, which often had a lithograph pasted on the upper board. Extant copies of the same edition show different combinations of paper and lithographs. They prove that Mame had his books bound in batches, meant for various kinds of clients. The article presents a study that examined the performance of New Orleans newspapers in covering the Mexican War in 1846-1848. An 1847 poem published in "Delta" entitled "The Newsboy," is referred, which describes the variation of news that the competitive New Orleans newspapers used to good advantage throughout the Mexican War. The article also cites that during the war, New Orleans had at least 30 papers published in four different languages including French, Spanish, German and English. It also explores competition of several English-published newspaper that focused on reporting and transmitting news about the war. Moreover, the article discusses how the news on the Mexican War were being transmitted.

Objective: The act of printing serves as a mechanism for disseminating and reusing ideas, which remains pervasive across the lifespan of individuals. A key indicator of societal advancement is the level of book production within a given community. The publication of books plays an indispensable role in steering societies towards the realization of educational, cultural, artistic, scientific, and other objectives. This paper presents a retrospective analysis of the oral tradition of book publishing in the Turkish-Azeri language spanning four decades, adopting an educational approach that delves into the educational and analytical dimensions of this tradition. Methods: This research employed a descriptive-analytical approach. Data collection was conducted through interviews. The study focused on active publishers within the Turkish-Azeri book publishing domain, with a sample of 12 publishers selected using the purposeful snowball sampling technique. Results: The vitality of Azeri book publishing is intricately linked to the scholarly and research community, as well as the readership within the Azeri population. These factors are significantly influenced by educational and research policies, as well as the economic and cultural governance of the society. Acute kidney injury (AKI) remains a significant clinical problem with a high mortality rate. Thus, the need for early recognition and treatment of AKI is an important goal. Clinical Science has a history of publishing high impact work across a breadth of scientific disciplines to improve understanding of disease mechanisms, including nephrology. This commentary spotlights a paper from more recent history that is highly cited. The work focuses on the mechanistic role of circular RNA in the pathobiology of AKI using approaches that include both in vivo experimental models and human cell culture experiments to delineate a potentially novel cellular pathway. Grunya Efimovna Sukhareva's seminal role in being the first to publish a clinical description of autistic traits in 1925, before both Kanner and Asperger, has been revealed relatively recently. Nevertheless, Sukhareva's work is little known and largely unrecognised beyond Russia. Amidst calls for greater recognition of her pivotal contribution in the genesis of autism conceptualisation and categorisation, this article provides a biographical and historical background. Sukhareva's wide-ranging psychiatric work is adumbrated and her pioneering efforts in conceptualising both schizophrenia and autism are elucidated. The article reflects on possible explanations for the belated and incomplete recognition of Sukhareva's role. The current article indicates how Sukhareva's work was ahead of its time in reflecting modern criteria for autism diagnoses and in its focus on female case studies. Sukhareva's somewhat precarious position as a foremost psychiatrist condemned in the Stalinist years for being anti-Marxist is explicated. Chinua Achebe's influence on the development and institution of African literature has proved to be pertinent, critical, and indelible. This paper reflects on the history of translating and publishing this renowned Nigerian writer's major novels and essays in France. It identifies two French publishers, Présence Africaine and Actes Sud, as the most important agents in the translation and publication of Achebe's works. By conducting interviews with Achebe's French editor and translator as well as reviewing published work by scholars and one of Achebe's translators, this study examines the trajectory of Achebe's works in France and how the ideologies of the agents may have affected which/when works were chosen for translation and publication. This study demonstrates that Achebe's trajectory in French has been eclectic and largely controlled by both publishers' worldviews and politics as well as broader discourses in African literature, such as literary legitimisation and colonialism. The Journal of Wine Research (JWR) has a near 30–year history of publishing varied articles examining aspects of viticulture, oenology and the international wine trade. The primary objective of this research is to examine the characteristics of literature published in the JWR through bibliographic analysis. The research utilises the Scopus database to identify the most productive authors, countries and papers published in the JWR since it was established in 1990. The total number of publications and citations are used to assess productivity, in terms of the number of publications, influence, and the number of citations of both authors and countries. Network maps were created using the VOSViewer software examining patterns of co–authorship, co–citation and keyword co–occurrence. The results indicate that the most prolific authors, in terms of the number of publications, are not necessarily producing the most profound research that gains traction through citations in the field. This study is helpful for prospective JWR authors, readers and editors who wish to understand the intellectual landscape of the journal in terms of the productivity and impact of different stakeholder groups and the noted trends of publications. Around 1900, legal literature and publishing in Germany underwent a significant process of expansion and transformation. This development is, in part, due to the codification of important areas of law, especially the advent of the German Civil Code. The new codes instigated a vast quantity of legal literature; legal commentaries took the lead in explaining the new law. However, it is only through a look at the history of books and publishing, as well as the general history of science, that the development of legal literature can be fully appreciated. This paper shows that the growth and transformation of legal literature before and after 1900 is part of a larger development, i.e. the emergence of a literary mass-market, on the one hand, and the formation of what Adolf von Harnack called a 'large-scale industry of science', on the other hand. American book publishing during the Second World War had to cope with a huge increase in demand for books coupled with scarcity of resources, especially paper rationing imposed by the War Production Board. Based on research in the Random House archives and focusing on the Modern Library series, this article examines how publishers coped with wartime challenges and opportunities. Random House grew rapidly during the war. Sales reached the million dollar mark in 1941 and exceeded three million dollars by 1946. Many new titles were published in smaller printings than demand would have justified and were out of stock for extended periods before they could be reprinted. The psychological uncertainties and dislocations of wartime affected the kinds of books that were in demand. Sales of philosophy and poetry increased at a disproportionate rate, The Oracles of Nostradamus, published two months after Pearl Harbor, became one of the Modern Library's best-selling titles. Shortly after the war ended the Modern Library became embroiled in a censorship controversy involving the removal of poems by Ezra Pound from a Modern Library poetry anthology. The end of the war was accompanied by rapid inflation in all areas of the economy; and paper remained in short supply despite the end of rationing. The book ends with an elegant afterword by Calphurnius addressed to Moretto in which he writes that I studiosi i owe Calderinus a great deal, but also Moretto. It is a striking difference from the presentation of the books assembled by Moretto for his enterprise in Padua, all produced in the 1470s when the aims of the region's printers were not quite so ambitious and their books were produced in styles that were soon to go out of fashion. On 27 February 1480 a consignment of 722 books was received in Padua by one Domenico Giglio who a few years earlier is documented as a scribe in Venice. [Extracted from the article]

The ever-mutating socio-political environment within which the Moroccan private press has evolved since the beginning of the 1990s has made it difficult for researchers to trace its general features over 25 years. After contextualising the non-partisan media takeover in the 1990s, this paper proposes a rereading of the political history of the Moroccan private press by dividing it into four periods: Uncertain Beginnings (1991-1998), Free Retrospection (1999-2005), Confrontation and Censorship (2006-2011), and Normalisation and Self-censorship (2011-2016). The designation of each phase draws on a scale of six indicators: political environment, media environment, principal titles, editorial features, ratings, and censorship. The paper focuses on the interaction between the press and the authorities along these phases and draws the implications of this interaction for the social functions of the private press and the status and utilities of press freedom in Morocco. With the continued proliferation of digitized materials, critical attention to the ideologies informing the creation of digital archives remains crucial. How are digital archives made and what are their goals? How do different participants in the process work together in collaborative teams towards shared ideals? This paper outlines the methodological and political considerations that underlie the creation of a critical digital archive of historical and born-digital materials relating to 20th-century publishing history, The Modernist Archives Publishing Project (MAPP). Here we outline the archival practices and critical ethos that have informed the collaborative creation of MAPP by an international team of scholars, archivists, cultural institutions, students, and copyright estate holders. We address issues of selection that arise in creating a critical digital archive; feminist critical metadata practices; and our approaches to workflow and copyright; and conclude with an example of an archival document type in which the issues of feminist critical curation and copyright collide. Severalreports have been published on the history of pioneering women pursuing neurosurgery. Women in Turkey started receiving neurosurgery specialty training later than men, as was the case in other parts of the world. However, compared to other countries, Turkey saw the admission of women in neurosurgery sooner, with Aysima Altınok who obtained her specialization in 1959. Nevertheless, Yıldız Yalçınlar, one of the pioneers, remains relatively unknown. In this paper, we witness Yıldız Yalçınlar's journey, from her graduation from Ankara Medical Faculty in 1954 and her subsequent specialization in general surgery to her arrival in Iğdır as a young surgeon in the early 1960s, where she faced cultural challenges. We explored her transition into neurosurgery, becoming the second neurosurgeon in Turkey in 1965. We examine her complex career progression from receiving her specialization in neurosurgery to her academic journey toward becoming a department chief and her role as one of the founding members of the Turkish Neurosurgery Association. In Turkey, the number of women practicing as neurosurgeons has increased consistently. Despite this upward trend, the representation of women in the field of neurosurgery remains disproportionately low. We hope that Yıldız Yalçınlar's achievements, which began in the early 60s, will encourage women today and contribute to the continuing growth of neurosurgery. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper seeks to reflect on the communication and ethics from the Catholic Church's perspective, especially as outlined in the documents published both by various Popes and the Pontifical Council for Social Communication in the twentieth and twentyfirst centuries. Several key documents have been written on themes concerning film, radio, television and the new media. In each of these documents there is always an awareness about the ethical and moral implication to the so-called new developments in the world - the media. Every development in the world be it social, economic, environmental, health and media in this case to mention but a few has implication on the ethics. The paper attempts to describe particularly what has been said in the history of publishing documents on communication. The focus is unique in the sense that communication has not been one of our strongest presentation compared to issues of theology, justice, and dogmas specific to the Church's proclamation. This article aims to present some new academic journals on the history of pedagogy and education published in Russia today. These journals were mainly founded after 2003, and, since then, have been contributing to a substantial revival in the field of the history of education and pedagogy. This paper is divided into five parts. The introduction presents some major changes that have occurred in the history of education and pedagogy in post-Communist Russia since the end of the 20th century until the first decades of the 21st century. The three following parts, each divided into two sections, are dedicated to one of the most important Yearbooks and to the two main Russian academic journals, in particular to their institutional connections and evolution over the last decades: The History of Pedagogy Yearbook (IPE) (1.a); The History of Education Journal (IPZ) (2.a); National and Foreign Pedagogy (OZP) (3.a). These journals are published, respectively, by the Academy of Public Administration (Moscow) (1.b); the Nizhnii Tagil State Social Pedagogical Institute/the Russian State Vocational Pedagogical University (Ekaterinburg) (2.b); and the Institute for Strategy of Education Development of the Russian Academy of Education (Moscow) (3.b). The conclusion will also provide an overview of other relevant academic journals which have contributed to the history of education by publishing both monographic issues and individual articles. This article discusses the book in sheets titled "Prognosticatio Eximii Doctrois Theophrasti Paracelsi" or predictions or prophecies from the famous doctor, pharmacologist, alchemist, astrologer, and much else, Philippus Aureolus Theophrastus Bombastus von Hohenheim. Topics covered include the existence of the "Prognosticatio" in the collections of the National Library of Medicine (NLM) in Bethesda, Maryland, the work involved in creating the book, and its text and engraving.

The vernacular fiction 'novel' is a genre typically associated with the explosion of commercial printing activity that occurred in the late sixteenth century. However, by that time, representative works such as the Shuihu zhuan and Sanguo yanyi had already been in print for several decades. Moreover, those early print editions were printed not by commercial entities but rather the elite of the Jiajing court. In order to better understand the genre as a print phenomenon, this paper explores the publishing output of one of those elites: Guo Xun (1475-1542), Marquis of Wuding. In addition to vernacular fiction, Guo printed a number of other types of books as well. This paper examines the entirety of his publishing activities in order to better contextualize the vernacular novel at this early stage in its life in print. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Benzene is an aromatic hydrocarbon that, with sufficient cumulative lifetime doses, can cause acute myelogenous leukemia. Because of its volatility and solvent properties, it was used in the printing industry in inks, ink solvents, and cleaning agents from the 1930s to the 1970s. This analysis represents the first known attempt to gather and synthesize the available data on historical airborne benzene concentrations in printing facilities and exposures to pressmen. The sources of fugitive benzene vapors from printing operations have been identified as evaporation from ink fountains, exposed sections of the printing cylinder, the paper web, the paper post exit, and spilled ink. In addition, specific activities that could lead to benzene exposure, such as filling the fountains, using solvents to clean the press, and using solvents as personal cleaning agents, potentially occurred multiple times per work period. Eighteen studies were identified that reported workplace airborne concentrations in printing facilities between 1938 and 2006. Typical benzene air concentrations, considering both personal and area samples of various durations, were as high as 200 p.p.m. in the 1930s through the 1950s, 3–35 p.p.m. in the 1960s, 1.3–16 p.p.m. in the 1970s, 0.013–1 in the 1980s, and far less than 1 p.p.m. in the 1990s and 2000s. The decrease in benzene air concentrations by the late 1970s was likely to be linked to the decreased benzene content of printing materials, increased engineering controls, and to more stringent occupational exposure limits. Disruptive technologies have been crucial to the shaping of publishing history. Paradoxically, while each of the technologies—specifically, the evolution of papermaking in Europe starting in the late thirteenth century, Gutenberg’s printing press and type-casting from metal in the fifteenth century, lithographic offset printing in the twentieth century, and digital printing in the twenty-first century—has, on its own, been indeed revolutionary in nature, together they have served their role in the evolution of the publishing industry. Grant Morrison's work has greatly added to the Scottish graphic novel tradition. In this regard, this paper will look at the recent Polish translation of the 25th anniversary edition of one of his iconic and groundbreaking Batman graphic novels, Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth. A brief description and publishing history of the graphic novel will be provided, followed by an analysis of the quality, style and publishing history of the translation in order to produce a final commentary on how Morrison's work has been rendered into the Polish language. It is concluded the translation is largely faithful to its original although it is marred with a number of careless and confusing errors which ultimately have an impact on the reading experience. These tools primarily work by automating the identification of fake authors and fake papers with the use of a set of variables common in publications, such as author email address and affiliation. A private email address could be considered a flag for further scrutinizing a publication, but private email addresses are often used by legitimate researchers, many of whom are nonnative English speakers or use non-Latin writing scripts. A history of the fossil fruits and seeds of the London Clay by James Scott Bowerbank (1797-1877) was printed by George Luxford (1807-1854) and published by John Van Voorst (1804-1898). Part I was issued in 1840, before 6 January, but no more was published. The monograph, intended to comprise five parts, was apparently a commercial failure. Part I was originally issued in wrappers, without title-page or other preliminaries; it includes 17 copper-plate engravings by James de Carle Sowerby (1787-1871), the printer being unknown. A ghost work, the so-called 'The fossil fruits and seeds of the Isle of Sheppey', cited occasionally in the contemporary literature, was in fact this monograph of Bowerbank's, not a separate publication. Twelve genera and 106 species are described, all new taxa except for one previously known species. Bowerbank apparently retained the unsold letterpress sheets until he died, after which they were bought by the publishers Reeves & Turner, who reissued them, possibly late in 1877. They added a title-page and, as an introduction, reprinted a letter about the Isle of Sheppey first published by Bowerbank in 1840. The plates were rather poorly reprinted from the original coppers by an unknown printer. The title-page of this scarce reissue does not name Reeves & Turner, but anachronistically gives Van Voorst as the publisher, still dated 1840. The present paper provides the historical and bibliographical background to these two issues of the sole edition, and describes their distinguishing features, determined from 18 copies of the original issue and eight copies of the reissue. Editors' note. This essay was found among the papers of the late Malcolm Parkes, Emeritus Professor of Palaeography in the University of Oxford. Whilst it is true that some of the material assembled here by Professor Parkes has been subsequently explored by others, it has seemed to us that it contains a sufficient quantity of new in for mation to merit the paper's publication. The article presents a study that investigated the development of the Czech press and the emergence of political press in Czechoslovakia. It explores the history of Czech press from the late 18th century to the domination of political role associated publications in the 19th century. It cites that the development of journalism and the press in Czechoslovakia between the war was most visibly political in nature. It also presents some comparisons of Czech press with the American press in the late 18th Century. Moreover, the article offers and discusses a framework for future research that facilitates the evaluation of the press performance based on the country's own merits, instead of against a prescribed formula.

Genealogy studies are growing in popularity, and researchers are increasingly using visualization methods to summarize and communicate their findings. A family tree is a visual representation of family members and their relationships that is commonly used to support the research of a family's history and publish the results. In some cases, an ancestor may occur in more than one place in the lineage of an individual, which is one of the reasons for the occurrence of consanguineous marriages, that is, marriages between blood relative spouses. Current methods for family tree visualization were not designed to analyze and assess the level of consanguinity in the ancestry of individuals. This paper proposes VisAC, an interactive tool to support the visual analysis of consanguinity in individuals' ancestry. The inbreeding coefficient is used as a measure of consanguinity. The coefficient corresponds to an estimate of the probability that two alleles (a variant of a given gene) in the DNA were inherited from the same individual. A visualization design and an interactive tool were developed with genealogists' support. In addition, the feedback collected through a questionnaire about two demo videos and tests with three target users strongly supports the effectiveness of the family tree visual representation and the adequacy of the interactive tool for the exploratory analysis task. Real-world examples are given to illustrate the usefulness of the visualization design, and an example of exploratory analysis is presented to illustrate the use of the interactive tool. In summary, this work formulates the task of visual analysis of consanguinity in ancestors' trees and proposes VisAC, a new visualization tool to support the task. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article offers information on papers presented at a conference series entitled "Emerging Trends in Book History and Print Culture," hosted by students from the Groupe de recherches et d'études sur le livre au Québec (GRÉLQ) at the University of Sherbrooke and the collaborative program in Book History and Print Culture (BHPC) at the University of Toronto. Topics of papers included the Québec gay militant periodical press and the representation of literature in museums.

The critic and publisher's reader Edward Garnett is a neglected figure, both generally and in studies of the poet and nature writer Edward Thomas. This paper outlines the literary friendship of Thomas and Garnett from their meeting in 1905 up to Garnett's promotion of Thomas's reputation after his death in the First World War. It argues that Garnett's encouragement of Thomas to write from his heart, especially in short pieces of creative prose, prepared the way for the poems for which Thomas is best known. Garnett's promotion of Thomas's work is situated within Garnett's larger mission of facilitating the publication of high-quality literature that was original, authentic, and ethically responsive to the world--in contrast to the popularization of the British periodical press wrought by Alfred Harmsworth, which not only undermined Thomas's livelihood as a literary journalist but also clamoured for the warthat killed him. The only original material of I U. fruticosa i that has been traced was collected by Thunberg in Java and has been designated as lectotype; it is conspecific with and antedates the name I U. argentea i G. The article discusses the journal of the exploration group the Corps of Discovery sergeant Patrick Gass. It examines the publication of Gass's journal by publisher and editor David M'Keehan, contention between M'Keehan and Corps of Discovery leader Meriwether Lewis concerning the publication of Gass's account, and the French version of Gass's journal. The article also discusses the creation of a map in the French edition of Gass's journal by French cartographer Jean Baptiste Pierre Tardieu.

This article examines the production and publishing history of two major Australian dictionaries: theMacquarie Dictionary(first edition, 1981) and theAustralian National Dictionary(1988). It addresses why they were made, who made them, and what their publishing histories were. In particular, it shows how the dictionaries were part of a long tradition of dictionary-making and debates over the nature of Australian English as well as the commercial and cultural nationalism of the 1970s and 1980s. Their story is insightful of the broader anxieties about national identity that has marked intellectual and cultural projects such as these. In addition, the story of the making of these two dictionaries also illuminates the history of publishing in Australia during a key period. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
