Purpose: The aim of the study is to evaluate the perceptions of participants on the sensitivity training in conducting online context. Design/methodology/approach: The researchers focus on the knowledge and attitudes of digital citizens as well as their perceptions on sensitivity training taking into consideration the technological aspects. In this qualitative approach, the available data were collected from 25 students from both graduate and undergraduate levels from different fields via an open-ended questionnaire in order to get their perceptions about creating a sensitivity training in the online context. In the questionnaire, metaphors were also used. Findings: The themes derived from these metaphors and additional themes formed by narratives about technology and sensitivity equality feeding digital citizens allow ways to be examined and emphasize the importance of sensitivity training in technology and communication areas. Research limitations/implications: Both direct and indirect thoughts of the participants are limitations of the study. Practical implications: Preparing students adequately for sensitivity in the workplace is a constant teaching and learning challenges in higher education. Social implications: This study focuses on universal values in a digital society in order to shed a light on sensitivity training in preventing conflicts in the global world. In the context of China's new law against domestic violence, proposed by the State Council in November 2014 and passed in July 2015, this article examines online engagement by Chinese citizens leading up to the legislative revision, and examines the Sina Weibo microblog activities of one influential organisation, nǚquán zhī shēng (Feminist Voice). I ask how a Chinese Civil Society Organisation (CSO) uses online media to open public discourse on, and in some cases challenge, formal and informal institutions around a normatively marginalised issue, the case of domestic violence. Drawing on and synthesising literature on domestic violence, civil society and online communications in China, this study provides a timely contribution given the relative limitedness of up-to-date data, after the huge wave of publications following the 1995 Beijing conference. Findings are based on content analysis of the Feminist Voice microblog during 2012. While Chinese CSOs are often dismissed as non-confrontational and therefore ineffective change agents, Feminist Voice does challenge status quo marginalisation of domestic violence in the public sphere and facilitate discussion around formal and informal institutional reform, thereby influencing social attitudes and potentially also policy and law making. This research presents blogs as an innovative and rich tool for political communication. Blogs can facilitate two-way communication and true interaction between citizens and politicians. The article analyses in depth the content, uses, and characteristics of five weblogs written by Aragonese politicians. Although the study detects some weaknesses in the current political use of blogs, it encourages political parties to use blogs and other online resources, not only during electoral campaigns to improve the reputation of political leaders but also continuously and particularly in situations of special interest for the citizenship. The study shows that the use of blogs by Aragonese politicians is no longer just a transitory phenomenon and has become a reality. The article also demonstrates that politicians use blogs mostly as a pre-electoral tooland to a much lesser extent as an element of communication to promote democracy.
