Releasing of large volumes of leather scraps wastes from different leather, footwear, and leather goods industries has become a major environmental pollution concern now a days in developing countries. Natural nanofibers are widely used as prospective reinforcement materials in formulation of different biocomposites materials. Herein, a new nanocomposite material has been synthesized and characterized using leather scraps wastes and Slender amaranth based nano-cellulose with latex in a clean environment perspective. Nano-cellulose was extracted from Slender amaranth vegetable wastes as natural fiber for green composites preparation. The extracted nanofibers, leather waste composite, and the resulting nanocomposite material have been characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). Different physio-mechanical characteristics of nanocomposite were evaluated which showed its potential applications as shoe upper components. The results revealed that addition of nano-cellulose significantly improved the physical properties of new composite sheet. SEM images revealed the surface morphology of nanocomposite which was observed to be predominantly homogenous with uniform distribution of particles. This novel nanocomposite exhibits different potential properties and TGA data showed higher thermal stability of this material in comparison to those obtained with control method. It can find application as a green reinforcement material in the preparation of different leather goods with improved mechanical properties and thermal stability. These significant findings highlight the preparation of a valuable biocomposite material from leather solid wastes which is cost effective and sustainable for leather industries as well as it emphasizes an effective approach to reduce environmental pollution. Synthetic polymers have made advances in terms of their flexibility and other properties but a major problem still exists when it comes to their poor biodegradability and lack of conservation. To overcome this problem, the biocomposites are widely used for wide range of applications. Crop residues (CRs) from agriculture can be utilized to make items like biodegradable components; however, they are hard to recycle or dispose of. The aim is to use corn cob ash (CCA), which is generated by calcination of corn cob (CC) in a pectin matrix to create a biocomposites. The Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), X‐ray diffraction (XRD), and energy‐dispersive X‐ray analysis (EDX) show the major compounds present in the CCA are silica, potassium, calcium, and many other inorganic compounds. In this research, a solution casting method is used to fabricate pectin/CC biocomposite films. By increasing the content of the CCA, the moisture content will decrease, contact angle and hardness properties are increased. However, increasing CCA content promotes the color change of pectin/CC biocomposite films and water absorption increases. The composite films are analyzed for biodegradation study. This study describes a novel spray-on mulch material as an alternative to currently used weed control methods. The mulch material is based on renewable raw materials, mainly rapeseed oil, starch and sodium alginate. Laboratory tests were conducted to obtain a mulch material with the best possible properties. Formulations with different ingredients were prepared and tested for their material properties. The formulations were investigated for potential shrinkage tendency and heat resistance as well as water resistance. Further tests such as resistance to mould infestation and aerobic degradability according to DIN EN ISO 17556 were carried out with the formulation that performed best in the previous tests. Mould resistance was enhanced by adding sodium benzoate. In the laboratory experiment, the CO2 decomposition rate was about 30% after seven weeks. With the favouritised variant, which was found step by step through the experiments, an outdoor field test was carried out to investigate the durability under natural conditions over the vegetation period. In the field, the mulch material maintained its function for six months. In the greenhouse, the effect of the mulch material on weeds was studied. It was found that the mulch material showed a high efficiency in controlling above-ground biomass of Elymus repens, Amaranthus retroflexus, and Setaria viridis. In addition, the biomass of the roots of Amaranthus retroflexus and Elymus repens was reduced. Bio-based materials are becoming increasingly important as demand for conventional wood-based products raises environmental issues, potentially leading to deforestation. As a result, environmentally acceptable, cost-effective, and easily available alternative natural biomass materials for these intended utilizes are highly required. In this work, a waste wheat straw cellulose polymer matrix composite reinforced with sisal fiber through physical and chemical treatment methods for fiberboard application was synthesized and characterized. The composite materials were developed using the polymer solution casting method. Waste wheat straw composites with 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 wt% of sisal fiber with respect to the matrix were prepared. Qualitative and quantitative approaches, as well as exploratory and experimental research methods, were employed. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy was used to investigate the functional group of wheat straw cellulose, while scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to examine the sisal fiber morphology. Flexural strength was tested by using a universal testing machine, and impact strengths were measured by a V-notch Charpy tester based on medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and low-density fiberboard (LDF) as control samples. The water absorption of the samples was also studied. The work complied with ANSI A208.2–2002's general test standards for general usage. The results showed that the maximum flexural strength attained at 20 wt% of reinforcement was (56.83 MPa) and the impact strength at 20 wt% sisal fiber was (30.33 J), while the MDF and LDF control samples' flexural strengths were 35.5 MPa and 41.5 MPa, respectively, and the impact strengths were (20.16 J and 25 J), respectively. The lowest water absorption value was achieved at 5 wt% of sisal fiber, and the value was (2.09%). However, water absorption of (74.04%) for MDF and (106.98%) for LDF was measured. Thus, it was discovered that using waste biomass such as wheat straw instead of raw wood may provide a composite material with superior flexural strength, impact strength, and reduced water absorption for fiberboard applications. Highlights This study investigates the hygrothermal aging effect on the tensile and impact behavior of flax/PLA biocomposites. Specimens underwent up to four weeks of conditioning at 40°C in a climate chamber with water. Analysis covered porosity, moisture diffusibility, and transversal microstructure, enabling assessment of tensile strength, tensile modulus, and impact performance in relation to moisture uptake and fiber orientation. The study of tensile properties revealed that at approximately 12% moisture content, stiffness and yield stress decrease, while strength remains constant. Moisture diffusivity is higher in warp and weft yarn directions than the out‐of‐plane direction. Tensile testing at environmental equilibrium moisture reveals greater stiffness in the weft direction, correlated with lower crimp percentage and yarn angle. The main contribution of the paper is the study of the influence of moisture on the impact behavior, the results show that energy absorption capability of flax/PLA biocomposite increases with moisture content. Fully biodegradable composite material by heat‐compression molding subjected to hygrothermal aging conditions for up to four weeks. The moisture diffusivity in both the warp and weft yarn directions registered higher values in comparison to the out‐of‐plane direction. Tensile testing at environmental equilibrium moisture revealed that the stiffness in the weft direction presented higher values. At 12% of moisture uptake, the stiffness and yield stress reached their lowest values, while strength remained constant. The enhancement of the mechanical and thermal characteristics of 3D printed polylactic acid (PLA) composites reinforced by coir fiber powder (CFP) has been investigated by varying the weight percentage (wt%) of the reinforcement and annealing process. CFP/PLA composite filaments with CFP compositions of 0.1, 0.3, and 0.5 wt% were fabricated. These filaments were used to print CFP/PLA test specimens. The specimens were annealed at 90°C for 120 min in a hot air oven followed by cooling at room temperature. Mechanical, morphological, crystalline, and thermal characterizations were conducted on these specimens. The tensile and flexural strength of neat PLA were observed as 49.7 and 82.4 MPa which decreased by 6.4% and 8.13% respectively for printed composite specimens with 0.5 wt% CFP as reinforcement material. On the other hand, the annealed CFP/PLA composite specimen, with 0.1 wt% CFP as a reinforcement material, demonstrated higher tensile and flexural strength. Specifically, it exhibited a maximum tensile strength of 56.4 MPa and a maximum flexural strength of 92.9 MPa, which are 13.5% and 12.7% higher, respectively, than neat PLA. These strengths are 15.5% and 16.7% higher, respectively, than those of the unannealed CFP/PLA composite specimen with the same wt% of CFP reinforcement. The annealing process increased the crystallinity of composites by enhancing the crystallinity index (63%) and crystalline size (6.7 nm). The high thermal stability of composites (with a glass transition temperature of 256°C) makes them suitable for applications in food and medical packaging. Biopolymers are biodegradable and renewable and can significantly reduce environmental impacts. For this reason, biocomposites based on a plasticized starch and cross-linker matrix and with a microfibrillated OCC cardboard cellulose reinforcement were developed. Biocomposites were prepared by suspension casting with varied amounts of microfibrillated cellulose: 0, 4, 8, and 12 wt%. Polyethylene glycol diglycidyl ether (PEGDE) was used as a cross-linking, water-soluble, and non-toxic agent. Microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) from OCC cardboard showed appropriate properties and potential for good performance as a reinforcement. In general, microfiber incorporation and matrix cross-linking increased crystallization, reduced water adsorption, and improved the physical and tensile properties of the plasticized starch. Biocomposites cross-linked with PEGDE and reinforced with 12 wt% MFC showed the best properties. The chemical and structural changes induced by the cross-linking of starch chains and MFC reinforcement were confirmed by FTIR, NMR, and XRD. The escalating significance of 3D printing in various industries is underscored by its ability to rapidly and cost-effectively produce distinctive parts. Among the 3D printing methods, fused filament fabrication (FFF) has emerged as a highly productive and cost-effective approach. While extensive efforts have been made to enhance the qualities of FFF products, challenges persist in material availability and quality compared to traditional methods. This study provides a meticulous overview of the FFF process, delving into various 3D printing processes, polymers, and polymer composites. Despite documented efforts to augment mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties, material constraints remain a focal point. Our analysis extends to various PLA/biocomposites, shedding light on achieved improvements and potential applications. Looking forward, the future trend in FFF technology suggests a paradigm shift towards enhanced material diversity and performance. Anticipated applications span beyond traditional use cases, encompassing sustainable manufacturing, medical devices, and eco-friendly construction materials. Cellulosic fibers obtained from Barley straw were utilized to reinforce PHB. Four different processed fibers were employed as reinforcing material: sawdust (SW), defibered (DFBF), delignified (DBF), and bleached (BBF) fibers. The composite was processed from two different perspectives: a discontinuous (bach) and an intensification process (extrusion). Once processed and transformed into final shape specimens, the materials were characterized by mechanical testing (tensile mode), scanning electron microscopy, and theoretical simulations by finite elements analysis (FEA). In terms of mechanical properties, only the elastic moduli (Et) exhibited results ranging from 37% to 170%, depending on the reinforcement composition. Conversely, strengths at break, under both tensile and bending tests, tended to decrease, indicating poor affinity between the components. Due to the mechanical treatment applied on the fiber, DFBF emerged as the most promising filler, with mechanical properties closest to those of neat PHB. DFBF-based composites were subsequently produced through process intensification using a twin-screw extruder, and molded into flowerpots. Mechanical results showed almost identical properties between the discontinuous and intensification processes. The suitability of the material for agriculture flowerpots was demonstrated through finite analysis simulation (FEA), which revealed that the maximum von Mises stresses (5.38 × 105 N/m2) and deformations (0.048 mm) were well below the limits of the composite materials. Plastic containers, commonly produced from non-biodegradable petroleum-based plastics such as polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), and polyethylene terephthalate (PET), raise significant environmental concerns due to their persistence. The disposal of agricultural waste, specifically rice straw (RS), through burning, further compounds these environmental issues. In response, this study explores the integration of polylactic acid (PLA), a biodegradable material, with RS using a twin-screw extruder and injection process, resulting in the creation of a biodegradable packaging material. The inclusion of RS led to a decrease in the melt flow rate, thermal stability, and tensile strength, while concurrently enhancing the hydrophilic properties of the composite polymers. Additionally, the incorporation of maleic anhydride (MA) contributed to a reduction in the water absorption rate. The optimized formulation underwent migration testing and met the standards for food packaging products. Furthermore, no MA migration was detected from the composite. This approach not only provides a practical solution for the disposal of RS, but also serves as an environmentally-friendly alternative to conventional synthetic plastic waste. Polylactic-acid–starch-based polymer composite (PLA/TPS) has good thermal stability for biocomposites. However, the physical and mechanical properties of PLA/TPS do not meet the standards. It needed additives to enhance its physical and mechanical properties. The aim was to improve the physical and mechanical properties of PLA/thermoplastic starch using sucrose. In addition, this study evaluated the enhancement of thermal properties of PLA/thermoplastic starch using sucrose. This study used sucrose as an additive to enhance the PLA/TPS composite. The addition of sucrose inhibits the degradation of biocomposites. This means that thermal stability increases. The thermal stability increased because the degree of crystallinity increased with the addition of sucrose, which was also proven in the XRD result. The addition of sucrose caused the morphology of the biocomposite to have pores. The FESEM results showed that biocomposites with the addition of sucrose had pores and gaps. These gaps result from low adhesion between polymers, causing a decrease in the mechanical and physical properties of the sample. Based on the FTIR spectra, biocomposite PLA/TPS blends with the addition of sucrose still have many hydroxyl groups that will lead to attracting other molecules or ions, such as oxygen or water. This phenomenon affects the physical and mechanical properties of materials. The physical and mechanical properties increased with sucrose addition. The best composite was prepared using 3% sucrose. In the evolving field of bioproducts, materials that synergize sustainability with functionality are of paramount importance. Mycelium composites, derived from intricate networks of fungal filaments, are gaining traction as innovative bioproducts that offer a compelling blend of eco‐friendliness, renewability, and adaptability. As the quest intensifies for alternatives that can mitigate the environmental toll of conventional products, mycelium‐based solutions are emerging as beacons on the sustainable bioproducts horizon. Their transition from niche innovations to mainstream applications depends on their ability to overcome a series of fabrication challenges. This review paper investigates the critical challenges faced in the fabrication of mycelium composite. It examines rigorously some essential factors leading to fabrication failure, such as contamination, inconsistent growth, insufficient moisture, inappropriate pH, and improper substrate preparation. The review offers a comprehensive analysis of each factor influencing mycelium growth and the resulting composite properties, with an emphasis on preventative and mitigating strategies. Through an in‐depth exploration of case studies detailing unsuccessful mycelium composite fabrication, the significance of understanding these failure factors is emphasized. The paper culminates in a forward‐thinking discourse on potential strategies for refining fabrication processes, and identifies promising research areas poised to enhance both the success rate and overall efficiency of mycelium composite production. Great environmental and economic benefits can be achieved by utilizing the agricultural residue corn stover (CS) to prepare the biodegradable poly(butylene adipate‐co‐terephthalate) (PBAT) composites. However, CS contains polarized hydroxyl groups from its main component cellulose, thus leading to its poor wetting by hydrophobic PBAT. It is of great significance to promote the compatibility between CS and PBAT for the improvement of interfacial interactions and composite performance, but the compatibilizer modified CS/PBAT biocomposites have been rarely mentioned until now. In this study, polyethylene glycol (PEG), glycidyl methacylate (GMA), and ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH) were chosen to investigate the compatibilizer effect on the morphology, microstructure, thermal properties, mechanical strength, and water absorption capacity of the biodegradable CS/PBAT composites. The results reveal that the incorporated compatibilizers obviously improve the interface adhesion between CS and PBAT by reducing the hydrophilicity of CS surface. The enhanced interfacial bonding interactions effectively promote the crystallinity and mechanical strength of the CS/PBAT composites, but the initial degradation temperature and hydrophilicity of compatibilizers themselves also remarkably influence the composites' thermostability and water absorption. Polyethylene (PE), a highly prevalent non‐biodegradable polymer in the field of plastics, presents a waste management issue. To alleviate this issue, bio‐based PE (bio‐PE), derived from renewable resources like corn and sugarcane, offers an environmentally friendly alternative. This review discusses various production methods of bio‐PE, including fermentation, gasification, and catalytic conversion of biomass. Interestingly, the bio‐PE production volumes and market are expanding due to the growing environmental concerns and regulatory pressures. Additionally, the production of PE and bio‐PE biocomposites using agricultural waste as filler materials, highlights the growing demand for sustainable alternatives to conventional plastics. According to previous studies, addition of ≈50% defibrillated corn and abaca fibers into bio‐PE matrix and a compatibilizer, results in the highest Young's modulus of 4.61 and 5.81 GPa, respectively. These biocomposites have potential applications in automotive, building construction, and furniture industries. Moreover, the advancement made in abiotic and biotic degradation of PE and PE biocomposites is elucidated to address their environmental impacts. Finally, the paper concludes with insights into the opportunities, challenges, and future perspectives in the sustainable production and utilization of PE and bio‐PE biocomposites. Highlights This study explores the utilization of Spent Coffee Grounds (SCG), a residual product of the coffee industry, as a microfiller reinforcement in Poly‐3‐hydroxybutyrate‐co‐3‐hydroxyvalerate (PHBV) biopolymer composites at varying concentrations (1%, 3%, 5%, and 7%). Melt compounding via a twin‐screw extruder and subsequent compression molding were employed in the fabrication process. The SCG microfiller, with particle diameters ranging from 1.11 to 1.28 μm, exhibited a significant negative charge (zeta potential: −20 mV). Hydrophobicity increased up to 5% filler concentration, as indicated by higher water contact angles, but diminished at highest concentration likelihood of agglomeration of the spent coffee grounds within the biopolymer matrix. The addition of SCG enhanced overall mechanical properties, particularly at a 5% filler concentration. Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE‐SEM) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) confirmed the successful incorporation of SCG microfiller, improving structural characteristics. Schematic drawings illustrated the interphase bonding of microfiller and matrix. However, properties diminished at the highest filler content (7%) due to coffee grounds' agglomeration. Despite this, SCG incorporation enhanced functional properties, making the biopolymer composite a promising material for sustainable packaging and various applications. Three mutual weight ratios of corn starch powder and polyvinyl acetate PVA wood glue were created for biocomposite materials: 40% starch/60% PVA, 50% starch/50% PVA, and 60% starch/40% PVA. Studying their physical, mechanical, thermal, electrical, and structural characteristics allowed for the evaluation of these composite materials. At room temperature, the samples were manually mixed. The results showed a decrease in the values of the AC conductivity and the thermal conductivity with an increase in the percentage of starch up to 60%, whereas the mechanical properties of the samples that contained starch at a concentration of 60% increased. Purpose: The aim of this study is to determine the fracture behavior of wool felt and fabric based epoxy composites and their responses to electromagnetic waves. Design/methodology/approach: Notched and unnotched tensile tests of composites made of wool only and hybridized with a glass fiber layer were carried out, and fracture behavior and toughness at macro scale were determined. They were exposed to electromagnetic waves between 8 and 18 GHz frequencies using two horn antennas. Findings: The keratin and lignin layer on the surface of the wool felt caused lower values to be obtained compared to the mechanical values given by pure epoxy. However, the use of wool felt in the symmetry layer of the laminated composite material provided higher mechanical values than the composite with glass fiber in the symmetry layer due to the mechanical interlocking it created. The use of wool in fabric form resulted in an increase in the modulus of elasticity, but no change in fracture toughness was observed. As a result of the electromagnetic analysis, it was also seen in the electromagnetic analysis that the transmittance of the materials was high, and the reflectance was low throughout the applied frequency range. Hence, it was concluded that all of the manufactured materials could be used as radome material over a wide band. Practical implications: Sheep wool is an easy-to-supply and low-cost material. In this paper, it is presented that sheep wool can be evaluated as a biocomposite material and used for radome applications. Originality/value: The combined evaluation of felt and fabric forms of a natural and inexpensive reinforcing element such as sheep wool and the combined evaluation of fracture mechanics and electromagnetic absorption properties will contribute to the evaluation of biocomposites in aviation. The use of wheat middlings (WM) and rice husks (RH) as biofillers for mixing with poly(lactic acid) (PLA) matrix to produce new 3D-printable biocomposites was assessed. Filaments containing 10 and 20 wt.% agro-waste-derived biofillers were manufactured and, for the sake of comparison, filaments of neat PLA were also produced. The obtained filaments were characterized via thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), showing potential for further application in additive manufacturing processing. Three-dimensionally printed specimens were thus produced and characterized via: DSC, also evaluating the specific heat capacity (CP) of specific 3D-printed specimens; dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), also applied for determining the coefficient of linear thermal expansion (CLTE) measured on 3D-printed specimens in two different directions (X and Y); and tensile tests. The latter testing campaign was carried out along three printing directions (X, Y, and Z axes) to test the intrinsic biocomposite features (X-printed samples) as well as interbead and interlayer adhesion (Y- and Z-printed specimens, respectively). All samples demonstrated acceptable properties. The inclusion of a cost-free natural material leads to a strong reduction of the whole material cost. In recent decades, interest in oxide nanomaterials with multifunctional properties has grown significantly. Titanium dioxide undoubtedly belongs to them, characterized by exceptional photocatalytic activity, non-toxicity, high availability, biocompatibility, antibacterial properties, and low cost. The treatment of textile materials with TiO2 nanoparticles is relatively simple, but the insufficient bonding efficiency between certain fibers and TiO2 nanoparticles creates a problem regarding the stability and durability of the nanocomposites. In this study, an attempt was made to improve the properties of cotton modified with gelatin hydrogel, which was cross-linked by glutaraldehyde, and incorporated titanium nanoparticles. Three modification methods were applied, varying the mixing regimes of the components and the conditions. The composite materials were investigated via SEM, FTIR, UV-Vis and elemental analysis. For the first time, titanium nanoparticles obtained by the reduction of TiO2 with oxalic acid were used to modify cotton. Cotton samples were modified with gelatin hydrogel cross-linked with glutaraldehyde to increase the active groups of cellulose fibers that bind to Ti ions. Using the hydrogel, the nanoparticles are deposited on the surface of the textile substrate. The elemental analysis shows the presence of TiO2 nanoparticles. Lines for Ti atoms appear, which is evidence that the particles retain their composition after immobilization. Microscopic analyzes showed that TiO2 nanoparticles were distributed unevenly in the cotton matrix. In the UV analysis, the appearance of a new absorption at 890 cm-1 was observed due to the attachment of Ti-NPs. The appearance of the IR peak at 878 cm-1 confirms the formation of chelate complexes of the nanoparticles in the composite material. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the context of sustainable materials, this study explores the effects of accelerated weathering testing and bacterial biodegradation on poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV)/rapeseed microfiber biocomposites. Accelerated weathering, simulating outdoor environmental conditions, and bacterial biodegradation, representing natural degradation processes in soil, were employed to investigate the changes in the mechanical, thermal and morphological properties of these materials during its post-production life cycle. Attention was paid to the assessment of the change of structural, mechanical and calorimetric properties of alkali and N-methylmorpholine N-oxide (NMMO)-treated rapeseed microfiber (RS)-reinforced plasticized PHBV composites before and after accelerated weathering. Results revealed that accelerated weathering led to an increase in stiffness, but a reduction in tensile strength and elongation at break, of the investigated PHBV biocomposites. Additionally, during accelerated weathering, the crystallinity of PHBV biocomposites increased, especially in the presence of RS, due to both the hydrolytic degradation of the polymer matrix and the nucleating effect of the filler. It has been observed that an increase in PHBV crystallinity, determined by DSC measurements, correlates with the intensity ratio I1225/1180 obtained from FTIR-ATR data. The treatment of RS microfibers increased the biodegradation capability of the developed PHBV composites, especially in the case of chemically untreated RS. The low carbon footprint, biodegradability, interesting mechanical properties, and relatively low price are considered some of the reasons for the increased interest in polylactic acid-based (PLA-based) filaments supplied with natural fillers. However, it is essential to recognize that incorporating natural fillers into virgin PLA significantly impacts the printability of the resulting blends. The complex inter-relationship between process, structure, and properties in the context of fused deposition modeling (FDM)-manufactured biocomposites is still not fully understood, which thus often results in decreased reliability of this technology in the context of biocomposites, decreased accuracy, and the increased presence of defects in the manufactured biocomposite samples. In light of these considerations, this study aims to identify the optimal processing parameters for the FDM manufacturing process involving wood-filled PLA biocomposites. This study presents an optimization approach consisting of Grey Relational Analysis in conjunction with the Taguchi orthogonal array. The optimization process has identified the combination of a scanning speed of 70 mm/s, a layer height of 0.1 mm, and a printing temperature of 220 °C as the most optimal, resulting in the highly satisfactory combination of good dimensional accuracy (Dx = 20.115 mm, Dy = 20.556 mm, and Dz = 20.220 mm) and low presence of voids (1.673%). The experimentally determined Grey Relational Grade of the specimen manufactured with the optimized set of process parameters (0.782) was in good agreement with the predicted value (0. 754), substantiating the validity of the optimization process. Additionally, the research compared the efficacy of optimization between the integrated multiparametric method and the conventional monoparametric strategy. The multiparametric method, which combines Grey Relational Analysis with the Taguchi orthogonal array, exhibited superior performance. Although the monoparametric optimization strategy yielded specimens with favorable values for the targeted properties, the analysis of the remaining characteristics uncovered unsatisfactory results. The main advantage of green composites is their biodegradability, but this biodegradability can also be considered a drawback if the degradation appears during the service life of the component. Therefore, the study of the mechanical behavior of green composites after hygrothermal aging tests is necessary to analyze their degradation process. This study aims to comprehensively analyze the hygrothermal aging behavior and aging mechanism of flax-fiber-reinforced polylactic acid (PLA) biocomposites. The fully biodegradable composites are manufactured by compression molding. In addition, the influence of atmospheric-pressure plasma treatment on the mechanical properties of the biocomposite is studied. Specimens are exposed to water vapor and 40 °C environmental conditions in a stove for up to 42 days. Several specimens of each type are taken out at regular intervals and tested to examine the water absorption, mechanical properties, and thermal characterization. Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV) is a biobased and biodegradable polymer. This polymer is considered promising, but it is also rather expensive. The objective of this study was to compound PHBV with three different organic fillers considered waste: human hair waste (HHW), sawdust (SD) and chitin from shrimp shells. Thus, the cost of the biopolymer is reduced, and, at the same time, waste materials are valorised into something useful. The composites prepared were characterised by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), tensile strength and scanning electron micrograph (SEM). Tests showed that chitin and HHW did not have a reinforcing effect on tensile strength while the SD increased the tensile strength at break to a certain degree. The biodegradation of the different composites was evaluated by a soil burial test for five months. The gravimetric test showed that neat PHBV was moderately degraded (about 5% weight loss) while reinforcing the polymer with organic waste clearly improved the biodegradation. The strongest biodegradation was achieved when the biopolymer was compounded with HHW (35% weight loss). The strong biodegradation of HHW was further demonstrated by characterisation by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). In this work, a thermal behaviour comparison of a new bamboo-based and banana-based Green Bio-Composites (GBC) is conducted using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and cone-calorimeter experiments. An Intumescent Fire-Retardant (IFR) coating (a mixture of Exolit IFR36 and boric acid) has been applied on the investigated GBC materials in order to explore the flammability resistance of such GBCs. Vacuum Bag Resin Transfer Moulding (VBRTM) technique has been used to manufacture the samples. TGA test have been conducted under oxidative atmosphere with three different heating rates while cone calorimeter tests have been performed with a horizontally exposure on the top surface of the sample. The outcomes of TGA revealed that Bamboo-based (BM-GBC) and Banana-based (Bn-GBC) materials exhibited similar thermal degradation patterns. However, BM-GBC outperformed Bn-based in the cone calorimetry analysis, this is proven by the fire reaction parameters as well as the higher char residue. In addition, IFR coating improved the flame retardancy of both GBCs, reduced the Peak Heat Release Rate (PHRR) by approximately 40–50% and smoke production (SEA) by 26%. In this investigation, the examination revolves around the characterization of diatomite-enhanced modified safflower oil (MSO)-derived polyester biocomposites. The primary objective is to explore the feasibility of these biocomposites as a substitute for petrochemical-based unsaturated polyester (UP) materials, with the overarching goal of enhancing their economic sustainability. Experimental data analysis employed Response Surface Methodology (RSM) and Artificial Neural Network (ANN), uncovering the optimal composition for the polyester biocomposite to be 6.7 wt.% MSO and 4.5 wt.% diatomite. During the RSM analysis, it was noted that the response parameters exhibited quadratic p -values, specifically, for density (p <.0001), thermal conductivity (p <.0001), and Shore D hardness (p <.0003). However, higher ratios of MSO lead to decreased hardness and increased curing time. SEM images reveal a detrimental impact on the surface morphology of the polyester biocomposite when the diatomite content reaches 8 wt.%. Additionally, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) offer valuable insights into the chemical bond structure and thermal behavior of the biocomposite, respectively. The Cure Index (CI) value for the diatomite-enhanced composite was determined to be 0.925, indicating a favorable contribution to the polyester curing process. The study finds that diatomite contributes to a linear change in the thermal conductivity coefficient, making the biocomposite suitable for use in the insulation industry. Currently, there is a notable attraction within the industry towards biocomposites, driven by the increasing fascination with natural fiber-reinforced composites (NFRCs). These NFRCs offer remarkable benefits, including cost-effectiveness, biodegradability, eco-friendliness, and favorable mechanical properties. As a result, the manufacturing processes of natural fiber reinforced polymer (NFRP) composites have garnered attention from both industrial professionals and scientists. The emergence of these eco-friendly materials in the automotive and aerospace industries has sparked interest in understanding their production techniques. However, the machining processes of NFRP composites pose significant challenges due to the complex structure of natural fibers, necessitating thorough studies to address these issues effectively. This research paper presents a comprehensive investigation on surface roughness during the milling process of Alfa/epoxy biocomposites. A set of 100 experimental trials was conducted to test the surface roughness, and analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to assess the impact of cutting parameters and chemical treatment on surface quality. To develop a predictive model for surface roughness, a hybrid approach called ANN-GA (artificial neural networks-genetic algorithms) is proposed in this research. This approach combines ANN and GA to determine an optimal neural network architecture. The performance of the ANN-GA model is compared to the Levenberg–Marquardt backpropagation (LM) algorithm. ANOVA results show that the feed per revolution have a significant influence on surface roughness, followed by the chemical treatment of fibers, while machining direction has a smaller effect. Graphene nanoplatelets (GNP) were incorporated into thermoplastic starch (TPS) films, and effects on water absorption and mechanical properties were investigated. GNP inclusion formed a barrier that significantly reduced water absorption, resulting in denser TPS/GNP films. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) revealed changes in chemical interactions, and FESEM analysis showed improved GNP dispersion at this concentration. Water contact angle results indicated increased hydrophobicity with higher GNP content. Positive influences on mechanical properties, such as tensile strength and Young's modulus, were observed at 12 wt% GNP, but excessive GNP content caused agglomeration and reduced ductility. This paper presents a novel cheminformatics approach for the design and synthesis of hydroxyapatite/collagen nanocomposites, which have potential biomedical applications in tissue engineering, drug delivery, and orthopedic and dental implants. The nanocomposites are synthesized by the co-precipitation method with different ratios of hydroxyapatite and collagen. Their mechanical, biological, and degradation properties are analyzed using various experimental and computational techniques. Attenuated total reflection–Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and X-ray diffraction unveil the low crystallinity and nanoscale particle size of hydroxyapatite (22.62 nm) and hydroxyapatite/collagen composites (14.81 nm). These findings are substantiated by scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, confirming the Ca/P ratio between 1.65 and 1.53 and attesting to the formation of non-stoichiometric apatites in all samples, further validated by molecular simulation. The antimicrobial activity of the nanocomposites is evaluated in vitro against several bacterial and fungal strains, demonstrating their medical potential. Additionally, in silico analyses are performed to predict the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion properties and the bioavailability of the collagen samples. This study paves the way for the development of novel biomaterials using chemoinformatics tools and methods, facilitating the optimization of design and synthesis parameters, as well as the prediction of biological outcomes. Future research directions should encompass the investigation of in vivo biocompatibility and bioactivity of the nanocomposites, while exploring further applications and functionalities of these innovative materials. Disposable surgical gowns are usually made from petroleum-based synthetic fibers that do not naturally decompose, impacting the environment. A promising approach to diminish the environmental impact of disposable gowns involves utilizing natural fibers and/or bio-based synthetic fibers. In this study, composite webs from polylactic acid (PLA) bicomponent fiber and natural fibers, cattail and kapok fibers, were prepared using the hot press method. Only the sheath region of the PLA bicomponent fiber melted, acting as an adhesive that enhanced the strength and reduced the thickness of the composite web compared with its state before hot pressing. The mechanical and physical properties of these composite webs were evaluated. Composite webs created from kapok fibers displayed a creamy yellowish-white color, while those made from cattail fibers showed a light yellowish-brown color. Additionally, the addition of natural fibers endowed the composite webs with hydrophobic properties. The maximum natural fiber content, at a ratio of 30:70 (natural fiber to PLA fiber), can be incorporated while maintaining proper water vapor permeability and mechanical properties. The fiber-filled polymer composite is one of the best materials which provides a symmetrical superior strength and stiffness to structures. With the strengthening of people's environmental protection and resource reuse consciousness, the development of renewable materials, especially natural fiber-filled polymer composites, is receiving great attention. This study investigated the mechanical properties of polymer composites incorporating waste materials from the food processing industry and agricultural sources. Waste vegetal fiber-filled polymer biocomposites (WVFFPBs) with varying fiber types and 3D printing orientations were systematically fabricated. Subsequently, the tensile tests were executed to comprehensively assess the anisotropic mechanical behaviors of the WVFFPBs. The results demonstrated that WVFFPBs performed excellent anisotropic mechanical properties compared to pristine matrix samples as print orientation changed. As the printing angle increased from 0° to 90°, the tensile mechanical properties of the WVFFPBs displayed a decreasing trend. Moreover, the print orientation–anisotropic mechanical behavior relationship of 3D-printed WVFFPBs was revealed through the analysis of the material manufacturing characteristics and damage features. The main objective of this study is to optimise a new composite for the depollution of contaminated water. This pollution can have adverse effects on both human health and the environment. The aim of this work was the elaboration and characterisation of a Novel polyaniline composite with plant leaf powder of Heliotrope (PANI@HL) for the removal of Orange G dye in an aqueous media. Hence, the physicochemical and morphological composition of PANI@HL were characterised by field-emission-scanning-electron-microscopy (FE-SEM), X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and Fourier transforms infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. In addition, the adsorption in a batch system for OG dye adsorption onto PANI@HL material was studied. Therefore, we accomplished a parametric study of the adsorption by studying the effect of several important parameters on the decolourising power of the used material, namely, the pH of the solution, contact time, initial concentration of the adsorbate, adsorbent dosage and temperature. The experimental results were analysed by the Freundlich and Langmuir models of adsorption. Experimental results disclose that the pseudo-second-order model provided a good depiction of the whole kinetic experimental data more than that of Lagergren first-order model, and the maximum monolayer adsorption capacity was 242.39 mg.g−1 for PANI@HL. In addition, the adsorption data were well fitted with Langmuir isothermal model. The developed PANI@HL material demonstrated good reusability up to four regeneration cycles. Biodegradable polymers have recently become attractive and have been increasingly used as matrix materials to replace fossil plastics due to concerns about the environmental issue. However, their application areas are limited due to their high costs and natural properties. In this study, we fabricated ecofriendly and economical polybutylene adipate terephthalate (PBAT) composites loaded with various concentrations of wood flour (WF) to investigate the effects on the PBAT and WF interfaces as well as the physical properties of the WF/PBAT biocomposites. Then, WF was acetylated with acetic anhydride, and the effect of WF acetylation on the mechanical and thermal properties of the biocomposites were investigated. The results showed that the tensile strength, tensile modulus, flexural strength and flexural modulus increased with WF loading in the composites, and acetylation could not only further increase these properties, but also increase the impact strength and elongation at break. The incorporation of WF would weaken the thermal stability of PBAT, but the thermal stability of the biocomposite could be improved after WF acetylation. The cold crystallization temperature and hydrophobicity of the WF/PBAT samples would be increased with the increasing load of the WF, while the melting enthalpy and the crystallinity of the samples reduced gradually. A morphological analysis of the modified composites revealed that the matrix exhibited greater interfacial interactions with the WF compared to the WF/PBAT. Considering the much lower cost of WF compared to PBAT, the improved properties of WF/PBAT biocomposites will make it economically competitive with other commercial polymers, and these biocomposites should have much wider application areas. The presented study is focused on the modification of commercially available epoxy resin with flame retardants by means of using natural substances, including quercetin hydrate and potato starch. The main aim was to obtain environmentally friendly material dedicated to rail transport that is resistant to the aging process during exploitation but also more prone to biodegradation in environmental conditions after usage. Starch is a natural biopolymer that can be applied as a pro-ecological filler, which may contribute to degradation in environmental conditions, while quercetin hydrate is able to prevent a composite from premature degradation during exploitation. To determine the aging resistance of the prepared materials, the measurements of hardness, color, mechanical properties and surface free energy were performed before and after solar aging. To assess the mechanical properties of the composite material, one-directional tensile tests were performed for three directions (0, 90, 45 degrees referred to the plate edges). Moreover, the FT-IR spectra of pristine and aged materials were obtained to observe the changes in chemical structure. Biocomposites based on polylactic acid (PLA), tall wheatgrass (TWG), and hemp (H) were made by injection molding. The article discusses the impact of the agrofiller content on the composite properties, including thermal (DSC, DMA, and TG) and mechanical characteristics (tensile modulus, tensile strength, and impact strength). Generally, the introduction of a plant filler into the polylactide matrix reduced the thermal resistance of the resulting composites. Plant fillers influenced primarily the cold crystallization process, probably due to their nucleating properties. The addition of fillers to the PLA matrix resulted in an increased storage modulus across all tested temperatures compared to pure PLA. In the case of a composite with 50% of plant fillers, it was almost 118%. The mechanical properties of the tested composites depended significantly on the amount of plant filler used. It was observed that adding 50% of plant filler to PLA led to a twofold increase in tensile modulus and a decrease in tensile strength and impact strength by an average of 23 and 70%, respectively. It was determined that composites incorporating tall wheatgrass (TWG) particles exhibited a slightly elevated tensile modulus while showcasing a marginally reduced strength and impact resistance in comparison to composites containing hemp (H) components. This paper presents the results of a study investigating the biodegradation of poly(butylene succinate) (PBS)/wheat bran (WB) biocomposites. Injection mouldings were subjected to biodegradation in compost-filled bioreactors under controlled humidity and temperature conditions. The effects of composting time (14, 42 and 70 days) and WB mass content (10%, 30% and 50% wt.) on the structural and thermal properties of the samples were investigated. Measurements were made by infrared spectral analysis, scanning electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, and gel permeation chromatography. Results demonstrated that both the thermal and structural properties of the samples depended greatly on the biodegradation time. Specifically, their crystallinity degree increased significantly while molecular mass sharply decreased with biodegradation time, whereas their thermal resistance only showed a slight increase. This resulted from enzymatic hydrolysis that led to the breakdown of ester bonds in polymer chains. It was also found that a higher WB content led to a higher mass loss in the biocomposite samples during biodegradation and affected their post-biodegradation properties. In recent years, the "new car smell" has been linked to materials off‐gassing toxic volatile organic compounds (VOCs) within the chamber of vehicles. Previous studies collected air samples directly from the vehicle chamber and analyzed them using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS). However, there is a lack of data regarding which materials are responsible for each compound and the resulting concentrations. This preliminary research was focused on analysis of VOC emissions emitted from basalt fiber and hemp hurd‐reinforced polypropylene (PP) panels, glass fiber reinforced PP panels, and PP panels intended for interior automotive applications such as dashboards and door panels. The panels were subjected to various temperatures and UV radiation that may be experienced within a vehicle. Results showed increasing concentrations as temperature increased, and a reduction in off‐gassing in the presence of UV radiation. The major compounds detected were acetaldehyde (<41 μg/m3), acetone (<29 μg/m3), and various alkanes (<6786 μg/m3). In this study, we utilized a hybridization approach for two different fibers to overcome the drawbacks of single-fiber-reinforced PLA composites. Coir fiber and bamboo leaf fiber were used as reinforcing natural fibers as their properties complement one another. Additionally, we combined thermal annealing with hybridization techniques to further improve the overall properties of the composites. The results showed that the hybridization of BF: CF with a ratio of 1:2 gave PLA-based hybrid composites optimal mechanical and thermal properties. Furthermore, the improvement in the thermal stability of hybrid composites, attributable to an increase in crystallinity, was a result of thermal annealing. The improvement in HDT in annealed 1BF:2CF hybrid composite was about 13.76% higher than that of the neat PLA. Annealing of the composites led to increased crystallinity, which was confirmed using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The synergistic effect of hybridization and annealing, leading to the improvement in the thermal properties, opened up the possibilities for the use of PLA-based composites. In this study, we demonstrated that a combined technique can be utilized as a strategy for improving the properties of 100% biocomposites and help overcome some limitations of the use of PLA in many applications. The degradability of the biocomposite produced from a binary mixture of thermoplastic banana starch (TPS) and polycaprolactone (PCL) reinforced with fique fibers (Fs) was evaluated in three different environments (soil, compost, water). An experimental design with two factors (soil and compost) and three levels (5, 10, and 20 cm) was used, with additional tests for a third aqueous environment (water from the lake of the Universidad del Valle) at a depth of 20 cm. The biocomposite was prepared from the implementation of a twin-screw extrusion process of the binary mixture TPS/PCL and fique fibers (54, 36, and 10% composition, respectively), followed by hot compression molding, and after that, generating ASTM D638 type V specimens using a stainless-steel die. The specimens were dried and buried according to the experimental design, for a total experimental time of 90 days, and removing samples every 30 days. After 90 days, all samples showed signs of degradation, where the best results were obtained in the compost at a depth of 20 cm (34 ± 4% mass loss and a decrease in tensile strength of 77.3%, which indicates that the material lost mechanical properties). TPS was the fastest disappearing component and promoted the degradation of the composite material as it disappeared. Finally, the aqueous media presented the lowest degradation results, losing only 20% of its initial mass after 90 days of the experiment, being the least effective environment in which the biocomposite can end up. This work reports on the development of collagen films with graphene oxide nanoparticles (GO NPs), aiming toward the development of a new generation of functional sustainable sensors. For this purpose, different GO NP contents up to 3 wt % were incorporated into a collagen matrix, and morphological, thermal, mechanical and electrical properties were evaluated. Independently of the GO NP content, all films display an increase in thermal stability as a result of the increase in the structural order of collagen, as revealed by XRD analysis. Further, the inclusion of GO NPs into collagen promotes an increase in the intensity of oxygen characteristic absorption bands in FTIR spectra, due to the abundant oxygen-containing functional groups, which lead to an increase in the hydrophilic character of the surface. GO NPs also influence the mechanical properties of the composites, increasing the tensile strength from 33.2 ± 2.4 MPa (collagen) to 44.1 ± 1.0 MPa (collagen with 3 wt % GO NPs). The use of banana pseudo stems is currently acknowledged as a sustainable raw material that piqued researchers' interest because of their high cellulose content, and good to moderate tensile strength. In order to develop various batches of biodegradable composite, peduncle fibers from waste banana peduncles were isolated and then reinforced after mild alkali treatment with biodegradable soy resin, phenol‐formaldehyde (resole), and soy‐resole resins via thermoforming (compressing) method. Peduncle fiber reinforced soy‐resole composite exhibited maximum tensile strength of 43.5 MPa and flexural strength of 36.2 MPa as a result of strong interaction/bonding between functional groups of the two biomaterials used here. All composites were put through a water sorption test, which showed that they are fairly hydrophobic by nature since after 24 h, they absorbed 10.2%–28.2% of water. These composites proved to be both eco‐friendly and biodegradable, since they broke down easily in the soil after 60 days and all of the composites lost about 70% of their original weight. These composites are anticipated to be used as an alternative to environment threatening plastic in indoor furniture, packaging, and computer cabinets. Wood flour–poly(butylene succinate)–poly(lactic acid) biocomposite samples were prepared by fused-deposition-molding 3D-printing technology, and modifications with glycerol and a silane coupling agent (KH550) were carried out. The samples were then hydrothermally aged. Modification with glycerol and KH550 enhanced the hydrophilicity of the samples and increased their tensile strength. Hydrothermal aging clearly whitened the surfaces of all the samples and made them more hydrophobic. Meanwhile, their tensile properties and thermal stability became poor; a higher hydrothermal aging temperature affected the mechanical properties more negatively. The modified samples turned out to be more resistant to the hydrothermal aging, and modification with KH550 could improve the anti-hydrothermal aging properties of the samples better than that with glycerol, where the tensile properties and the cross-sectional morphologies of the fractured specimens were concerned. Cellulose nanofibers (CNs) are isolated from cotton wool using subcritical water in a semiflow hydrothermal reactor to achieve green hydrolysis. The yield and crystallinity index (CI) of nanocellulose is optimized via varying temperatures and hydrolysis time while maintaining the pressure at 10 MPa. Under the subcritical condition, water dissociates into H3O+ and OH−, allowing protonation of the β‐glycosidic bond to hydrolyze cellulose strands into short chain fibers. Hydrolysis rates enhance with increasing temperatures, further disintegrating cellulose into smaller nanofibrils. At 180 °C, amorphous cellulose dissolution occurs, increasing the crystallinity without disintegrating the crystalline fibrous network. The concentration of H3O+ increases at 230 °C, further hydrolyzes cotton wool into uniform nanofibril cellulose with 14.3 ± 1.2 nm diameter. The tensile strength and elongation at break enhance using cellulose nanofibers obtained at 220 and 230 °C due to the small nanocellulose sizes that allow efficient dispersion in the poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) matrix. This research is conducted with the objective of developing a multi‐functional finishing on cotton fabric for improving different properties such as self‐cleaning, antibacterial, ultraviolet blocking, mechanical, and electrical conductivity. To this end, zinc stannate nanophotocatalyst and reduced graphene oxide (RGO) are successfully synthesized and used for multifunctional treatment of cotton fabrics. Self‐cleaning properties under sunlight irradiation and antibacterial activities against two common pathogenic bacteria including Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus are characterized on finished cotton samples. Electrical resistance and color of treated fabrics are also assessed. Electrical conductivity of the RGO‐coated fabrics is improved significantly due to presence of RGO on the surface of cotton fabrics. The treated cotton fabrics with zinc stannate nanocomposite show 61.7% photocatalytic self‐cleaning activity measured by degradation of methylene blue in aqueous solution under sunlight irradiation. Wood–plastic composites (WPCs) represent composite materials that employ shredded wood combined with a thermoplastic substance, such as polylactic acid (PLA), to establish structural cohesion within the product profile. This amalgamation of materials results in a robust structure designed to fulfill specialized roles under the influence of pressure and temperature. Given the nature of the constituent materials, the resultant product can be classified as a biocomposite. The creation of such biocomposites entails a rigorous process necessitating the fine-tuning of specific parameters and suitable technologies. The foundational materials employed in this process must be both natural and biodegradable. However, it is noteworthy that natural components like fibers exhibit anisotropic behavior, wherein their mechanical attributes are contingent on the direction of the applied force. Consequently, predicting their performance during biocomposite production proves challenging. The principal objective of this study was to conduct a comparative analysis of wood-based composites incorporating PLA thermoplastic binding agents. The intention was to discern variations in density profiles arising from distinct measurement methodologies. Two measurement methods were used for the measurement: X-ray and spectrum desaturation. Additionally, the study sought to investigate the impact of introducing PLA additives at 25% and 50% concentrations on the fabrication of WPC from wood chips. This study's primary objective was to observe the growth of marigold seedlings in biodegradable planting bags made from polylactic acid (PLA), natural rubber (NR), and rice straw (RS) film, as well as the biodegradation of the bags during planting. The flexible PLA/NR/RS film was produced using a PLA/NR blend ratio of 70:30 percent by weight (wt%) as a matrix and filled with RS at 3, 5, and 10 wt%. All PLA/NR/RS biocomposite films were produced via an extrusion casting method. To examine the growth efficiency of marigold seedlings in biodegradable planting bags, marigold seedlings were transferred into PLA/NR/RS biocomposite bags. After being planted for 90 days, the stalk diameter and dry mass of the marigold seedlings grown in the PLA/NR/RS biocomposite bags tended to increase with increasing RS content. The biodegradability of all PLA/NR/RS biocomposite bags was measured by how much weight each bag lost after marigold seedlings were planted in it. The amount of rice straw in PLA/NR/RS biocomposite bags was found to affect how much weight they lost. Maximum weight loss was observed when the film contained 10 wt% RS fiber, which corresponded to the lowest PLA molecular weight assessed by gel permeation chromatography (GPC). Purpose: Additive manufacturing is a recent technology used in the production of composite materials. The use of continuous fibres as reinforcement is necessary to achieve high mechanical performance. However, making these materials more environmentally friendly is still challenging. The purpose of this study was to investigate the feasibility of 3D printing a composite made of continuous regenerated cellulose fibres using a standard 3D printer generally used for printing polymers. Design/methodology/approach: The production process was based on a pre-impregnated filament made from a tape containing continuous cellulose fibres and Pebax® matrix. 3D printed composite samples were fabricated using fused deposition modelling. The tape, filament and 3D printed composites were first analysed by means of modulated differential scanning calorimetry and micrography. Tensile tests were then performed, and the mechanical characteristics were determined at each step of the production process. Fracture surfaces were investigated by field-emission gun–scanning electron microscopy. Findings: Results showed that the mechanical behaviour of the material was maintained throughout the production process, and the 3D printed biocomposites had a stiffness equivalent to that of traditionally manufactured continuous cellulose fibre composites. The obtained 3D printed composites showed an increase in strength value by a factor of 4 and in tensile modulus by a factor of 20 compared to those of unreinforced Pebax® polymer. The objective of this research is to examine the potential use of melamine derivatives namely melamine cyanurate (MC), melamine phosphate (MP), and melamine polyphosphate (MPP) as flame retardant additives in chicken feather (CF) containing thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). The performances of the composites are evaluated using limiting oxygen index (LOI), vertical UL-94 (UL-94 V), and mass loss calorimeter (MLC) tests. The V0 rating is achieved with the addition of 10 wt% MC, 20 wt% MP, and MPP. The performances of the additives are ranked in the ascending order of MC, MP, and MPP in LOI test. MP and MPP show distinct better performance than MC in the condensed phase. However, the gas phase action of MC is much better. than MP, and MPP. The lowest pHRR (103 Kw/m2), THE (39 MJ/m2), and THE/TML ratio (1.4 MJ/m2g) are observed with the use of 20 wt% MPP, MP, and MC, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objective of this work is to analyze the influence of the cross-section of a bumper beam made of fully biodegradable composites. Flax/PLA bumper beams were manufactured with four types of cross-sections with different degree of roundness. Specimens were subjected to low velocity impacts and the post-impact behavior is evaluated under three-point bending tests. Results indicate that different cross-sections can be selected if the objective is to maximize the impact performance or the post-impact residual properties. The bumper beam with the higher roundness exhibits the best impact performance, while an intermediate section exhibits the best after impact residual mechanical properties. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The development of the paper industry has led to the discharge of a large amount of papermaking waste liquid containing lignosulfonate. These lignin black liquids cause a lot of pollution in nature, which runs counter to the current environmental protection strategy under the global goal. Through the development and use of lignosulfonate in papermaking waste liquid to increase the utilization of harmful substances in waste liquid, we aim to promote waste liquid treatment and reduce environmental pollution. This paper proposes a new strategy to synthesize novel glue-free biocomposites with high-performance interfacial compatibility from papermaking by-product sodium lignosulfonate/chitosan (L/C) and waste bamboo. This L/C bamboo biocomposite material has good mechanical properties and durability, low formaldehyde emissions, a high recovery rate, meets the requirements of wood-based panels, and reduces environmental pollution. This method is low in cost, has the potential for large-scale production, and can effectively reduce the environmental pollution of the paper industry, promoting the recycling of biomass and helping the future manufacture of glue-free panels, which can be widely used in the preparation of bookcase, furniture, floor and so on. The dynamic development of the food industry and the growing interest of consumers in innovative solutions that increase the comfort and quality of life push the industry towards seeking pioneering solutions in the field of food packaging. Intelligent and active packaging, which affects the quality and durability of food products and allows one to determine their freshness, is still a modern concept. The aim of our study was to obtain two types of films based on chitosan and starch with micellar nanostructures containing extracts from turmeric rhizomes and hibiscus flowers. The presence of spherical nanostructures was confirmed using a scanning electron microscope. The structural and optical properties of the obtained composites were characterised by Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR), UltraViolet-Visible (UV-VIS), and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis confirmed the presence of spherical micellar structures with a size of about 800 nm in the obtained biocomposites. The presence of nano-/microstructures containing extracts affected the mechanical properties of the composites: it weakened the strength of the films and improved their elongation at break (EAB). Films with nano-/microparticles were characterised by a higher water content compared to the control sample and lower solubility, and they showed stronger hydrophilic properties. Preliminary storage tests showed that the obtained biocomposites are sensitive to changes occurring during the storage of products such as cheese or fish. In addition, it was found that the film with the addition of turmeric extract inhibited the growth of microorganisms during storage.
