Thermal transport plays a pivotal role across diverse disciplines, yet the intricate relationship between amorphous network structures and thermal conductance properties remains elusive due to the absence of a reliable and comprehensive network's dataset to be investigated. In this study, we have created a dataset comprising multiple amorphous network structures of varying sizes, generated through a combination of the node disturbance method and Delaunay triangulation, to fine-tune an initially random network toward both increased and decreased thermal conductance C. The tuning process is guided by the simulated annealing algorithm. Our findings unveil that C is inversely dependent on the normalized average shortest distance L n o r m connecting heat source nodes and sink nodes, which is determined by the network topological structure. Intuitively, the amorphous network with increased C is associated with an increased number of bonds oriented along the thermal transport direction, which shortens the heat transfer distance from the source to sink node. Conversely, thermal transport encounters impedance with an augmented number of bonds oriented perpendicular to the thermal transport direction, which is demonstrated by the increased L n o r m . Nanofluids, characterized by the dispersion of nanoparticles in a base liquid, have attracted significant attention in recent years due to their exceptional thermal properties. Specifically, the specific heat capacity of nanofluids plays a crucial role in the design and optimization of heat transfer systems. Traditional experimental methods for determining the specific heat capacity of nanofluids are often limited in terms of cost, time, and operating condition ranges. To address these limitations, this research focuses on the development of a novel predictive model for estimating the specific heat capacity of nanofluids. This study aims to develop a machine learning regression model called Gradient Boost Regression (GBR) with Grid Search optimization (GSO) for accurately predicting the specific heat capacity of aluminum nitride (Al2N3) nanoparticles that are suspended in both water and an ethylene glycol (EG) solution. The GBR-GSO model capitalizes on the strengths of GBR, which can effectively capture complex relationships, and GSO, a metaheuristic optimization technique inspired by the law of gravity. By integrating these two approaches, we aim to create a robust and accurate predictive model for specific heat capacity in nanofluids. To develop and validate the GBR-GSO model, a diverse dataset based on experimental-specific heat capacity collected from the literature has been designed. The performance of the model has been evaluated by comparing its predictions with experimental data. The GBR-GSO model achieved 99.99% accuracy with the experimental data of specific heat capacity. This research contributes to the advancement of nanofluid-based heat transfer systems by providing an effective tool for predicting the specific heat capacity of nanofluids. To enhance the heat-transfer performance of scramjet engines, a numerical simulation was conducted on the heat-transfer process of RP-3 aviation kerosene under supercritical pressure within a horizontal micro-fine circular tube. The intrinsic mechanism of the heat-transfer process was analyzed, summarizing the impacts of mass flux, inlet temperature, and gravitational acceleration. Furthermore, four commonly used buoyancy criterion numbers were compared and evaluated. The results indicate that the heat-transfer process can be divided into five phases: heating inlet phase, normal heat-transfer phase, heat-transfer deterioration phase, heat-transfer enhancement phase, and high-temperature normal heat-transfer phase. The heating inlet phase is significantly influenced by the inlet temperature, while the heat-transfer deterioration is affected both by the thermal property variations of the aviation kerosene and the buoyancy effects. Lower mass flux and hypergravity conditions all exacerbate heat-transfer deterioration. Inlet temperature, however, does not affect the heat-transfer pattern. The thermal and electrical properties of photovoltaic cell (PVC) under linear phenomenological heat transfer law between it and the environment is studied through finite time thermodynamics and the volt-ampere characteristic equation. The properties of PVC are affected by heat transfer between PVC and environment. There are optimal solar radiation intensity and PVC output voltage (OV), which make the photoelectric conversion efficiency (PECE) of PVC reach the highest value. When OV and solar radiation intensity are 28.50 V and 700 W/m2, the maximum PECE is 0.156. There is also the best solar radiation intensity, which makes the open-circuit voltage (OCV) reach the maximum. When solar radiant intensity is 669 W/m2, the maximum OCV is 33.14 V. The values of power output and short-circuit current (SCC) are monotonically increasing with solar radiation intensity. Given solar radiation intensity, the power output and OV exhibit a parabolic shape. The operating temperature falls first and then grows with the OV. However, the change of operating temperature with OV is not much. Band gap is a decreasing function of operating temperature. This article can give theoretical support for the design and use of PVCs. This study presents a one-dimensional mathematical model developed to simulate multi-zone thermal storage systems using phase change materials (PCMs). The model enables precise analysis of temperature distribution in the layered storage based on several PCM configurations and properties. It is distinguished by its adaptability to various tank geometries and the number of PCM capsules, enabling its application under diverse operating conditions. By simplifying the implementation of heat transfer processes that depend on the shape of the capsule and the thermal properties of the PCM, the computation time can be reduced to a level that makes simulations over longer periods feasible. Experimental validation confirmed the accuracy of the model, with deviations below 6%, underscoring its practical applicability. The study demonstrates that individual layering in the storage tank can be achieved by filling it with PCMs of different melting points without compromising the maximum storage capacity. It is shown that including a PCM layer can maintain the outlet temperature 20% longer while storing 14% more energy. The results point out the model's potential to improve the performance of thermal storage systems through targeted PCM layer configurations. The DIGIT experiment was launched at the Tournemire Underground Research Laboratory URL with the aim of determining the effects of temperature on the transfer of analogues of most mobile radionuclides (i.e., 36Cl, 129I and 79Se) in the Toarcian clay rock, the properties of which are close to host rocks being considered for future deep geological disposal of high-level (HL) radioactive wastes. The experimental principle involves the monitoring of an exchange between a test water traced with stable halides and deuterium at constant concentration and the porewater of the Toarcian clay rock submitted to various temperatures. This experiment seeks to partially address questions regarding the potential spread of contaminants during the thermal phase of High Level Waste (HLW) waste packages. Specifically, the in situ experiment aims to evaluate the role of scale effects and thermodiffusion, a process that combines Fick's law and the Soret effect, in the transfer of radionuclides. This paper presents the first steps of the study, including the scoping calculations, the experimental set-up and the first results obtained during the unheated phase. The study started with the acquisition of the initial parameters, including the rock thermal properties, the concentrations of the four tracers (chloride, bromide, iodide and deuterium) naturally present in the clay porewater and their diffusive transport parameters by using four diffusion exchange techniques (phase 0). A model coupling heat and mass transfers was then developed using Comsol Multiphysics®, integrating data acquired so far with existing literature data. A test water with a tracer concentration around 1000 times higher than those in the pore water was proposed with a temperature imposed at the test section wall of 70 °C. A large test zone of 50 cm height and 1 m in diameter and installed in a 3 m deep vertical well located in a sound zone at the URL was then proposed. The installation of the experiments required the realization of one shaft and of nine peripheral boreholes for the monitoring of temperature, water pressure and deformation. The experiment started with phase 1, involving a traced, unheated water start-up for a period of 5 months. Then, a core sampling was conducted in the emptied well, and the same diffusion exchange techniques were applied. The results of anionic tracers were compared to simulations based on initial parameters (phase 0), revealing that tracer penetration at the end of phase 1 exceeded simulated values by approximately 2 cm. This result is interpreted as an increase in the accessible porosity to tracers, possibly due to the excavation damaged zone. Future simulations should incorporate these adjusted diffusive transport parameters. Following phase 1, the heating system was activated, applying a temperature of 70 °C to the test zone. Microwave heating has been applied to improve cement-based materials (CBMs) structures deicing efficiency, which reduce the effect of icing on their service life. Moreover, the enhanced thermal properties of CBMs can further improve their deicing efficiency. In this study, silicon carbide (SiC) ceramic particles with favorable thermal properties were used to prepare the SiC cement-based materials (SCBMs). The effect of SiC ceramic on the mechanical strength of CBMs was investigated. Next, the heat transfer and storage ability of CBMs were investigated to analyze the changes in their thermal-physical parameters. Then, the surface thermal responses of the CBMs during microwave heating and off were recorded to characterize their temperature evolution in a low-temperature condition. Furthermore, the deicing efficiency of CBMs was determined using the ice layer shedding time (ILST) as the index. The results show that the filling effect of SiC ceramic on CBMs improved their mechanical strength within a certain content range. However, a large content of SiC ceramic caused an increase in the weak area and porosity within the CBMs, further reducing their mechanical properties. The thermal-physical parameters of CBMs were improved after adding SiC ceramic. The thermal conductivity and thermal effusivity of SCBMs-100 were 13.17 W/(m·K) and 1.44 W/(mm2·K), respectively, 7.90 and 2.35 times higher than the control group. Due to the favorable thermal properties of SCBMs, their heating rate and surface temperature field distribution characteristics were further improved. Furthermore, with the increase of SiC ceramic content, the ILST of SCBMs was further reduced during microwave heating. Therefore, the SiC ceramic was a favorable material, improving the thermal properties and deicing efficiency of CBMs to a certain extent. In the realm of high-tech materials and energy applications, accurately measuring the transient heat flow at media boundaries and the internal thermal conductivity of materials in harsh heat exchange environments poses a significant challenge when using conventional direct measurement methods. Consequently, the study of photothermal parameter reconstruction in translucent media, which relies on indirect measurement techniques, has crucial practical value. Current research on reconstructing photothermal properties within participating media typically focuses on single-objective or time-invariant properties. There is a pressing need to develop effective methods for the simultaneous reconstruction of time-varying thermal flow fields and internal thermal conductivity at the boundaries of participating media. This paper introduces a computational model based on the numerical simulation theory of internal heat transfer systems in participating media, stochastic particle swarm optimization algorithms, and Kalman filter technology. The model aims to enable the simultaneous reconstruction of various thermal parameters within the target medium. Our results demonstrate that under varying levels of measurement noise, the inversion results for different target parameters exhibit slight oscillations around the true values, leading to a reduction in reconstruction accuracy. Transient vehicle dynamics are deeply affected by the spatial distribution of tire temperature, heat generation, and heat dissipation capacity. However, the tire testing process involves numerous parameters, adding the complexity to monitoring the tire's thermal properties variation. To address this issue, this paper proposes a data-driven framework that combines the well-known Magic Formula with scaling factors and a long- and short-term memory (LSTM) neural network. The framework forecasts tire thermal properties and functionality under given conditions by learning from time-series data on tire operating conditions and mechanical characteristics. It predicts future spatially varying thermal properties of the tire, including temperatures, heat generation, and heat dissipation. This is achieved with a high degree of forecasting ability quantified by train size/test size ratios equaling 22 and 38% with an impressive Relative Root Mean Square Error (RRMSE) around 1−2%. Here, this framework is applied to quantify the impacts of various operating conditions, including vertical load, slip angle, and vehicle speed, on heat transfer for three crucial radial positions on the tire. Our results show that the vertical load is the primary influencing parameter among all operating conditions. Thermal energy storage (TES) using phase change materials (PCMs) is one of the potential solutions for stockpiling thermal energy and utilizing it for different applications, which results in effective energy usage. The main drawback of organic PCMs in practical applications is poor heat transfer due to low thermal conductivity (TC). Therefore, investigations into nano-enhanced PCMs are being explored to improve their thermophysical properties. In this work, the various thermophysical characteristics of nano-enhanced lauryl alcohol as a PCM were investigated using carbon-based and metallic nanoparticles. The results indicated that the addition of nanoparticles improved its thermal properties and affected other physical properties, such as viscosity. The latent heat was degraded with the addition of nanoparticles. The results revealed that by adding MWCNTs and CuO nanoparticles, a maximum of 82.6% and 49.6% improvement in TC was achieved, respectively. The maximum drop in latent heat during melting and freezing for the PCM with MWCNTs was about 10.1% and 9.3%, respectively, whereas for the PCM with CuO, they were about 11% and 10.3%, respectively. The lowest supercooling for the PCM with MWCNTs and CuO nanoparticles was 8.6 and 8.3 °C, respectively. This paper presents a detailed exploration of the development and characterization of multifunctional dual-purpose woven fabrics for thermal protective clothing. Through this research, 69 woven fabric prototypes have been carefully designed and produced, integrating various raw materials, yarn, and woven fabric construction parameters, with the aim of optimizing thermal protection properties while ensuring comfort and durability. The analysis led to the identification of two optimal woven fabric samples, which, upon further testing, exhibited exceptional dimensional stability, crease recovery, tear resistance, as well as abrasion and water resistance. Furthermore, the thermal properties were evaluated, demonstrating exceptional flame resistance, limited heat transmission, and high thermal insulation. Additionally, the study evaluated dynamic thermal properties, contact conductive heat transfer, air permeability, water vapour resistance, and thermal resistance of two clothing systems constructed from selected woven fabrics. Statistical analysis confirms significant differences between clothing systems, highlighting the influence of yarn composition and fabric structure on thermal performance and comfort, where one system exhibits better thermal insulation characteristics suitable for colder environments while the other excels in breathability for warmer climates. The developed woven fabrics meet high standards for protective clothing against heat and flame, surpassing currently available comparable woven fabrics on the market in terms of efficacy and performance. The purpose of this paper is to introduce a newly proposed operating principle for the heat transfer use sector, which originates in an ECHA restriction proposal on partially hydrogenated terphenyls.1 Heat transfer fluids are substances that enable processes to maintain desired temperature ranges accurately and are used in nearly every manufacturing sector. Heat transfer fluids achieve this through their thermal stability properties, and when operated in a closed system, can provide manufacturing processes with years of function with little maintenance. A new operating principle focused on this theme of closed system operation is called Strictly Controlled Closed Systems (SCCS). The SCCS will serve to standardise safe operation of heat transfer systems in the European Union by limiting exposures to workers and releases to the environment. The SCCS is a combination of several safety standards, principles, and guidelines from inside and outside the heat transfer use sector. This combination of resources has resulted in a novel inspection checklist that should aid in industrial compliance and review of enforcement agencies. In addition, SCCS should provide a regulatory path for hazardous heat transfer fluids to follow as a class. SCCS will allow even hazardous heat transfer fluids to have cradle-to-the-grave standardised management aimed at minimisation of environmental and human exposures. It is our expectation that adoption of this standard will be a role model to ensure the continued use of important chemistries in applications and manufacturing that drive the EU economy. Plasmonic gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) can convert laser irradiation into thermal energy for a variety of applications. Although heat transfer through the AuNP–water interface is considered an essential part of the plasmonic heating process, there is a lack of mechanistic understanding of how interface curvature and the heating itself impact interfacial heat transfer. Here, we report atomistic molecular dynamics simulations that investigate heat transfer through nanoscale gold–water interfaces. We simulated four nanoscale gold structures under various applied heat flux values to evaluate how gold–water interface curvature and temperature affect the interfacial heat transfer. We also considered a case in which we artificially reduced wetting at the gold surfaces by tuning the gold–water interactions to determine if such a perturbation alters the curvature and temperature dependence of the gold–water interfacial heat transfer. We first confirmed that interfacial heat transfer is particularly important for small particles (diameter ≤ 10 nm). We found that the thermal interface conductance increases linearly with interface curvature regardless of the gold wettability, while it increases nonlinearly with the applied heat flux under normal wetting and remains constant under reduced wetting. Our analysis suggests the curvature dependence of the interface conductance coincides with changes in interfacial water adsorption, while the temperature dependence may arise from temperature-induced shifts in the distribution of water vibrational states. Electrical percolation in two-phase materials involves a very singular behavior, manifested as a huge change in the electrical conductivity, for a given volume or mass fraction of the phase with higher conductivity. In contrast, in the case of heat transfer, in two-phase composite systems, analogous percolative phenomena are far more elusive and have been rather difficult to observe in various physical systems. In this Perspective, we present a critical analysis of experimental results and the application of theoretical models aimed to study the effects of percolation phenomena on the thermal and electrical properties of two-phase materials. Our attention will be focused on composites made of high conductivity particles in a polymeric matrix. The effect of several factors, such as the geometrical and physical characteristics of fillers and their connectivity with the matrix, the proportion between the conductivity of filler and the matrix, as well as the crucial role of interfacial thermal resistance, is considered. In particular, the differences between the thermal and electrical thresholds and the physical and geometrical conditions that should be fulfilled to observe thermal percolation are discussed. Future trends, to be followed in the development of new materials, in order to enhance the thermal conductivity as well as in making the thermal percolative effects notable, based on including additional phases and 2D fillers, are also discussed. A hybrid nanofluid (HYNF) is an excellent working medium for improved heat transfer performance. To investigate the convective heat transfer performance of an HYNF of various particle mixing ratios (MR), at first samples of MgO-SiO2/water HYNF are prepared by varying the MR of MgO to SiO2 as 0:100, 40:60, 50:50, 60:40, and 100:0 at 0.05 mass % of concentration; then convective heat transfer characteristics are determined experimentally by exposing different mass flows of HYNF from 0.03–0.27 kg/s to a constant heat flux of 5630 W/m2. The results describe that the variation in MR strongly influences the Nusselt number (Nu) of HYNF. The maximum Nu, which is 1.94 times (~ 94.50%) higher than the same with base fluid, is obtained at MR of 60:40 and the mass flow rate of 0.13 kg/s. The variation of MR does not affect the friction factor of HYNF and it is nearly comparable to that of the base fluid. Further, a new concept has been proposed to determine the thermo-economic feasibility of HYNF in heat transfer applications. Modelling effective thermal properties is crucial for optimizing the thermal performance of materials such as new green insulating fibrous media. In this study, a numerical model is proposed to calculate the effective thermal conductivity of these materials. The fibers are considered to be non-overlapping and randomly oriented in space. The numerical model is based on the finite element method. Particular attention is paid to the accuracy of the results and the influence of the choice of the representative elementary volume (REV) for calculation (cubic or rectangular parallelepiped slice). The calculated effective thermal conductivity of fibrous media under different boundary conditions is also investigated. A set of usual mixed boundary conditions is considered, alongside the uniform temperature gradient conditions. The REV rectangular slice and uniform temperature gradient boundary conditions provide a more accurate estimate of the effective thermal conductivity and are therefore recommended for use in place of the usual cubic representative elementary volume and the usual mixed boundary conditions. This robust model represents a principal novelty of the work. The results are compared with experimental and analytical data previously obtained in the literature for juncus maritimus fibrous media, for different fiber volume fractions, with small relative deviations of 7%. Analytical laws are generally based on simplified assumptions such as infinitely long fibers, and may neglect heat transfer between different phases. Luminescence thermal quenching (TQ) is one of the most critical problems to be solved for further improvement of phosphors' applications in lighting and many other fields. Herein, a novel strategy is demonstrated to achieve outstanding anti‐TQ performance with a substantial enhancement of Eu3+ red emission at 613 nm from Sc2MO3O12:Tb3+,Eu3+ phosphor. Its anti‐TQ performance is endowed by dual energy transfer (ET) pathways and intensified by the negative thermal expansion (NTE) property of the Sc2MO3O12 host. Remarkably, the photoluminescence (PL) emission intensity of Eu3+ from Sc2MO3O12:20%Eu3+,2%Tb3+ phosphor at 648 K reaches 507.3% of the initial intensity taken at 298 K. The lifetime of Eu3+ emission at 613 nm elongates with increasing measurement temperature. The experimental data and density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the host structure shrinkage via NTE leads to the thermally boosted Eu3+ red emission by intensifying the consecutive ET and confinement of the absorption light. The potential of this phosphor as a dual‐mode high temperature thermometer based on both emission lifetime and intensity ratio read‐out modes is realized. The use of nanofluids in heat transfer applications has significantly increased in recent times due to their enhanced thermal properties. It is therefore important to investigate the flow behavior and, thus, the rheology of different nanosuspensions to improve heat transfer performance. In this study, the viscosity of a BN-diamond/thermal oil hybrid nanofluid is predicted using four machine learning (ML) algorithms, i.e., random forest (RF), gradient boosting regression (GBR), Gaussian regression (GR) and artificial neural network (ANN), as a function of temperature (25–65 °C), particle concentration (0.2–0.6 wt.%), and shear rate (1–2000 s−1). Six different error matrices were employed to evaluate the performance of these models by providing a comparative analysis. The data were randomly divided into training and testing data. The algorithms were optimized for better prediction of 700 experimental data points. While all ML algorithms produced R2 values greater than 0.99, the most accurate predictions, with minimum error, were obtained by GBR. In this paper, hydrophilic cotton (CO) yarn and hydrophobic cross-section polyester (PET) filaments were used to prepare single-layer interwoven fabrics (CO/PET fabrics) with plain, 3/1 twill, and 8/5 satin to formulate a hydrophobicity–hydrophilicity gradient across the fabric for obtaining a good water transfer ability. The CO fabrics and PET fabrics were prepared for comparison. The contact angle and thermo-physiology properties of the fabrics, including the wicking property, moisture management ability, drying property, air permeability and water vapor permeability, thermal property, and dynamic cooling property, were investigated. The results show that the asymmetric hydrophobicity–hydrophilicity characteristic can be formed across CO/PET fabric with 3/1 twill and 8/5 satin. This can improve the water transfer ability from the inside to the outside of the fabrics, and the longer the floating length of the fabric is, the stronger the water transfer ability is. These two fabrics also exhibit excellent wicking properties, overall moisture management capability, and thermal comfort, and have good permeability, drying properties, and dynamic cooling properties compared to the corresponding fabrics. As a result, these two CO/PET interwoven textiles are more suitable for application as clothes worn in summer. The interweaving technique combining hydrophilic and hydrophobic yarns is an easy and cost-effective method to prepare fabrics that meet summer requirements. Phase-change materials (PCMs) can be used to develop thermal energy storage systems as they absorb large amount of latent heat nearly at a constant temperature when changing phase from a solid to a liquid. To prevent leakage when in a liquid state, PCM is shape stabilized in a polymer matrix of high-density polyethylene (HDPE). The present research explores the injection-molded mechanical and thermal properties of different PCM/HDPE composite ratios. The tensile strength and modulus of elasticity at room temperature and with the PCM fully melted within the composite are measured. Additionally, the hardness, latent heat of fusion, phase-change temperature, and thermal conductivity are investigated. An analysis of microstructures of the composite is used to support the findings. Silicone foam (SF) is a porous silicone rubber with a lower density, higher elasticity, and good thermal stability. In this work, we selected aluminum spheres and carbon fiber (CF) as thermally conductive fillers to prepare hybrid SF. After optimization, we found that Al and CF hybrid SF (Al-CF-SF) has a higher thermal conductivity (1.37 W·m-1·K-1) than the single-filler filled SF (CF-SF, 1.2 W·m-1·K-1 or Al-SF, 0.52 W·m-1·K-1) under the same filling amount of 60 wt%. The finite element simulation was used further to explore the thermal conductive mechanism of the hybrid SF. Meanwhile, the compressive and tensile modulus of the material (CF-SF) was increased to 10.8 and 3.3 MPa compared with pure SF, respectively, and the mechanical properties were improved. To understand the transient heat transfer characteristics of nanoporous aerogel insulating composites, solving the inverse heat transfer problem would be crucial for identifying the temperature-dependent thermal properties of composites. In this study, with constructed a forward model to numerically investigate the heat transfer in composites, a deep neural network (DNN) model and a particle swarm optimized deep neural network (PSO-DNN) model are conducted to rapidly estimate the effective temperature-dependent thermal conductivity of the desiccated and moist composites from the temperature response measurements. With the DNN model, the retrieved thermal conductivities for desiccated composites possess low deviation to experimental measurements (<3.2%) and constantly low errors (<5.2%) from 280 K to 1080 K. The precision of the DNN solver could be enhanced by adjusting the hyperparameters of the neural networks using PSO. The retrieved thermal conductivities possess low deviation from experiments (<2.5%) and low relative errors within 1.5%. Furthermore, the robustness of the PSO-DNN solver is discussed when commercial thermocouple measurement errors are considered, within retrieving the thermal properties of desiccated and moist aerogel composites. The vacuum bagging is a common but critical step of various manufacturing process chains for Carbon/Glass Fibre reinforced polymers (C/GFRP). Whilst developing a new generation of vacuum bagging, significant efforts have been made to deeply understand the relevant physics fields, process variables involved and to provide predictive approaches to support dimensioning and scaling exercises prior to implementation into real production process. Main features of the new bagging system are, (1) the reduction of material diversity through merging of various properties within one single layer and, (2) the suppression of critical folding steps by using thermoforming for pre-shaping purposes. This paper will mainly focus on considerations of heat transfer during the pre-shaping of the film, directly on the CFRP part short before the curing step. For the better risk assessment of the short time exposition of an uncured composite part to the heat flow, a problem of transient coupled field analysis involving heat transfer via conduction, convection and radiation is formulated and solved by using Finite Element Analysis in COMSOL under consideration of realistic process conditions. Further a section dedicated to the comparison of the obtained results with measurements performed on a system including an IR-emitter, the bagging material, a ground plate and in some studies as well a CFRP sample is included. The layered fibers of carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites exhibit low thermal conductivity (TC) throughout their thickness due to the poor TC of the polymeric resin. Improved heat transmission inside the hydrogen storage tank during the filling process can reduce further compression work, and improved heat insulation can minimize energy loss. Therefore, it is crucial to understand the thermal properties of composites. This paper reports the thermal behavior of plain-woven CFRP composite using simulation at the micro-, meso-, and macro-scales. The TC was predicted numerically and compared to experimental findings and analytical models. Good results were found. Using the approach of multi-scale modeling, a parametric study was carried out to analyze in depth the influence of certain variables on thermal properties. The study revealed that both fiber volume fraction and temperature significantly influenced the TC of the composite, with the interphase fiber/matrix thickness following closely in terms of impact. Using thermal storage materials with excellent thermal properties in the energy utilization system enables efficient use of renewable energy sources. Organic phase change materials (PCMs) have the advantages of high heat storage density, no corrosion, and low cost, but low thermal conductivity and insufficient heat transfer capacity have always been the bottlenecks in their application. In this paper, melamine foam@ reduction graphene oxide (MF@rGO) and carbon foam@ reduction graphene oxide (CF@rGO) composite foams with double carbon networks were prepared by self-assembly method and further employed in 1-octadecinal (OD) PCMs. The microstructure, chemical composition, phase change behavior, thermal conductivity, and photothermal conversion performance of MF@rGO/OD and CF@rGO/OD were studied in detail using SEM, FTIR, Raman DSC, and LFA. The melting and solidification enthalpies of CF@rGO/OD composite PCMs were 208.3 J/g and 191.4 J/g, respectively, its thermal conductivity increased to 1.54 W/m·K, which is 6.42 times that of pure OD. The porous structure and high thermal conductivity of the double carbon network substantially enhance the efficiency of energy storage and release in composite PCMs. CF@rGO/OD composite PCMs have excellent heat storage performance and heat transfer capacity, and a wide range of application prospects in the fields of low-temperature solar heat storage, precision instrument temperature control, and intelligent buildings. Many studies on magnetorheological fluid (MRF) have been carried out over the last three decades, highlighting several salient advantages, such as a fast phase change, easy control of the yield stress, and so forth. In particular, several review articles of MRF technology have been reported over the last two decades, summarizing the development of MRFs and their applications. As specific examples, review articles have been published that include the optimization of the particles and carrier liquid to achieve minimum off-state viscosity and maximum yield stress at on-state, the formulation of many constitutive models including the Casson model and the Herschel–Bulkley (H–B) model, sedimentation enhancement using additives and nanosized particles, many types of dampers for automotive suspension and civil structures, medical and rehabilitation devices, MRF polishing technology, the methods of magnetic circuit design, and the synthesis of various controllers. More recently, the effect of the temperature and thermal conductivity on the properties of MRFs and application systems are actively being investigated by several works. However, there is no review article on this issue so far, despite the fact that the thermal problem is one of the most crucial factors to be seriously considered for the development of advanced MRFs and commercial products of application systems. In this work, studies on the thermal conductivity and temperature in MRFs themselves and their temperature-dependent application systems are reviewed, respectively, and principal results are summarized, emphasizing the following: how to reduce the temperature effect on the field-dependent properties of MRFs and how to design an application system that minimizes the thermal effect. Purpose: The heat transfer properties play significant roles in the thermal comfort of the clothing products. The purpose of this paper is to find the relationship between heat transfer properties and fabrics' structure, yarn properties and predict the effective thermal conductivity of single layer woven fabrics by a parametric mathematical model. Design/methodology/approach: First, the weave unit was divided into four types of element regions, including yarn overlap regions, yarn crossing regions, yarn floating regions and pore regions. Second, the number and area proportion of each region were calculated respectively. Some formulas were created to calculate the effective thermal conductivity of each element region based on serial model, parallel model or series–parallel mixing model. Finally, according to the number and area proportion of each region in weave unit, the formulas were established to calculate the fabric overall effective thermal conductivity in thickness direction based on the parallel models. Findings: The influences of yarn spacing, yarn width, fabric thickness, the compressing coefficients of air layers and weave type on the effective thermal conductivity were further discussed respectively. In this model, the relationships between the effective thermal conductivity and each parameter are some polynomial fitting curves with different orders. Weave type affects the change of effective thermal conductivity mainly through the numbers of different elements and their area ratios. Originality/value: In this model, the formulas were created respectively to calculate the effective thermal conductivity of each element region and whole weave unit. The serial–parallel mixing characteristics of yarn and surrounding air are considered, as well as the compression coefficients of air layers. Proper thermal management is crucial to improving the reliability of aerostatic thrust bearing with high air supply pressures. Due to the obvious temperature diffenence in the flow channel clearance, a remarkable conjugate heat transfer phenomenon exists between the gas film and solid discs. Moreover, the changes in temperature and pressure in the clearance cause apparent variations in thermal properties, which inversely effect the heat transfer characteristics of the gas film. In this study, a 3D aerostatic thrust bearing with high supply air pressure is modelled. To investigate the influence of changes in pressure and temperature in clearance on thermal properties, numerical computations are performed to solve the 3D compressible forced convection conjugate heat transfer. Based on the preceding analysis, an effective correction method of air thermal properties is proposed. Given the importance of thermal insulation in the walls of buildings to provide both electrical energy and thermal comfort in different weathers. In this research, the ANSYS-14 simulation program was used, considered one of the programs used to evaluate the thermal behavior of buildings, considering the effect of weather changes and building components during the steady and unsteady heat transfer of a composite wall from several layers. The simulation program was used for four types of insulation inside the wall with different thermal properties (Glass- Fiber Slab, Polyurethane Board, Hardboard (Medium) and Softwoods). A model was built for a traditional wall without an insulator and a model for a traditional wall that contains an insulator in different locations (from the outside, in the middle, and from the inside). Also, the model was isolated from the top and bottom surfaces, and each insulation material was applied in three locations in the wall. The conventional composite wall was exposed to a constant thermal load of 60 °C from the outside, and the inside wall was exposed to a thermal load of 25 °C This study focused on three steps. The first step is to know the best type of the four thermal insulators used in this study. The second step was to evaluate the best location of the insulator in the wall. The third step included the results of the previous two steps through which the best insulator was chosen and the best location in the wall. Three values of insulator thickness 2, 5 and 8 cm were used. Through the results of the study, it was found that placing the insulator on the outside of the wall plays a large role in reducing the rate of unsteady heat transfer and that its effect decreases by approaching the steady state, as it does not affect it in the case of the total steady state. The results also showed that the rate of unsteady heat transfer decreases by decreasing the thermal diffusivity of materials. It is also noticeable that the effect of the density and specific heat capacity appears clearly at the beginning of the thermal loading on the material. That effect decreases by approaching the steady state as the effect of the heat transfer coefficient of conduction appears. It was also found that both hardboard and polyurethane are the best in thermal insulation. It was also observed that the relationship between heat transfer rate and thickness is inverse-linear. A unified numerical model for simulating thermal flows past and through porous media whose thermal properties are identical with those of the surrounding fluid is proposed in this paper, which advances the work of the unified immersed boundary‐lattice Boltzmann flux solver (UIB‐LBFS). The proposed method greatly simplifies the conventional computation procedure for thermal flows past porous bodies by unifying the governing equations for the flow and temperature fields in both the porous and fluid domains. This is achieved by introducing a diffuse layer, across which the variation of the flow properties including its thermal features are expected to be smooth. Also, the developed method can be applied on either uniform or nonuniform grid since the numerical fluxes are locally reconstructed by LBFS at cell interfaces. In addition, the boundary conditions for both the flow and temperature fields at the porous‐fluid interface with complex shape can be implemented through IBM in a simple way. The proposed method is validated by several numerical examples over wide ranges of thermal parameters from forced convection to mixed convection. Excellent agreements are obtained for all simulations, including the one with severe temperature gradient in the thin temperature boundary layer at Pr=10$$ \mathit{\Pr}=10 $$, which demonstrates the capabilities of the proposed method. The paper presents theoretical, experimental and numerical studies on the thermal behavior of mineral wool used in sandwich panels. The aim of this study is to investigate the thermal properties of mineral wool at elevated temperatures and provide a simple model that would allow us to determine the heat propagation in sandwich panels during a fire. The paper proposes a new method to experimentally evaluate thermal diffusivity, derived from theoretical premises. Experiments are conducted in a laboratory furnace where specimens are placed and temperatures inside specimens are measured. Different methods are used to process the test results and calculate the thermal diffusivity of mineral wool. This paper investigates the flow and thermal properties of a combined multiple shell pass (CMSP)‐shell and tube heat exchanger (STHE) with the provision of unilateral ladder‐type helical baffle (ULHB) and continuous helical baffle (HB) in the outer shell pass of the heat exchanger. Two CMSP‐STHEs with ULHB and HB, respectively, are compared with the traditional STHE having segmental baffles (SG‐STHE) using the computational fluid dynamics method. The computational outcomes are validated with the empirical correlations of the Kern and Esso method. The Reynolds‐averaged Navier–Stokes‐based standard k–ω turbulence model accurately predicts the heat transfer (HT) rate and pressure drop. The computed results of HT rate, pressure drop, and logarithmic mean temperature difference corresponding to various mass flow rates (m) for three STHEs are presented. The results show that the overall HT rate of CMSP (ULHB)‐STHE and the CMSP (HB)‐STHE at the same mass flow rate are nearly 28.3% and 14.8% larger than that of traditional SG‐STHE, respectively. Furthermore, the overall area‐weighted average pressure drop (ΔP) of CMSP (HB)‐STHE is smaller than that of SG‐STHE by 26.5% at the same mass flow rate (m) and for CMSP (ULHB)‐STHE it is larger by 2% than that of traditional STHE. Nano-refrigerants, which are the suspensions of nano-sized particles in a base fluid, were applied in many devices and systems to enhance thermal conductivity and improve heat transfer performance. This work studied the thermal and atomic behavior of two kinds of nano-refrigerants located inside an aluminum nanochannel for 5 ns. The molecular dynamics (simulation method simulated Nano-refrigerants, including R-134a and R-407A as base fluids and copper as nanoparticles. The density, velocity, and temperature profiles were studied to investigate the atomic behavior of the simulated sample. The thermal behavior of structures was studied by examining the phase transition rate, phase change time, thermal conductivity, and heat flux. The results show that R-407A base fluid showed better thermal behavior. The results show that in Cu/R-407A, the phase-changed particle reached 31% in 5 ns, and phase change time was estimated to be 3.91 ns. In contrast, in Cu/R-134a, the samples' phase changed particle and phase change time reached 26% and 4.06 ns. Moreover, the study of heat flux shows that nano-refrigerant with R-407A base fluid had more HF (1028 W/m2) than R-134a (654 W/m2). The thermal insulation properties of building walls are critical to the overall energy efficiency and comfort of a building. One important factor that can affect these properties is the type of bricks used in construction. Bricks can vary in their geometry and thermal coefficient, which can impact their ability to transfer heat through the wall. The geometry of a brick can affect its thermal properties by altering the amount of air trapped within it and the surface area available for heat transfer. Hollow bricks or those with complex geometries may have lower thermal conductivity than regular solid bricks due to the air pockets trapped within them. Conversely, larger surface areas on the exterior of the brick can increase heat transfer. The thermal coefficient of clay, a common material used in brick production, is another important factor. Clay has relatively low thermal conductivity, meaning it is a poor conductor of heat. However, the quality of the clay, as well as the firing temperature and duration used in brick production, can impact its thermal coefficient. Higher firing temperatures and longer firing times can result in a more compact and dense clay brick, which can improve its thermal properties. The anisotropic structure of wood will lead to a macroscopic anisotropic property in both mechanical strength and heat transfer. Previous experimental studies of wood materials were mainly focused on the mechanical property while their anisotropic thermal property in different environments is not sufficient. In this research, the anisotropic thermal performance of spruce wood is studied at different temperature, humidity, and mechanical load. The one-dimensional steady-state method and the transient plane source method are adopted to conduct the test. The thermal conductivity in both radial and longitudinal directions of spruce wood at temperature ranging from 25 °C to 422 °C, relative humidity ranging from 30 to 90 % RH, and mechanical load ranging from 0 to 20 MPa are obtained. The accuracy of the TPS method is validated using the 1D steady-state method. Both methods can be utilized to gauge the anisotropic thermal conductivity of spruce wood. Due to the unidirectional distribution of fiber, spruce wood has a longitudinal thermal conductivity that is roughly three times greater than its radial thermal conductivity. Among environmental conditions of temperature, humidity, and mechanical load, the thermal conductivity of spruce wood is varied with temperature more significantly, which is followed by humidity and mechanical load. In this study, the experimental and numerical effects of using waste glass as aggregates of asphalt pavement are evaluated. The main reason for using this waste material as aggregates of hot mix asphalt (HMA) is to alleviate an environmental problem associated with asphalt pavements called urban heat islands. This phenomenon can increase the temperature in urban areas compared to their suburbs. Regarding the experimental part, two different HMA mixtures containing 100% limestone aggregates (HMAL) and 100% glass aggregates (HMAG) are made in this study. An experimental setup is used to simulate the solar radiations on top of HMA specimens. As a result, thermal parameters, including thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity, and specific heat capacity, are measured and calculated using the heat transfer equations and the heat transfer test. These results are then used to develop finite element models for two different pavement structures with different asphalt concrete layers (one of them with HMAL and the other with HMAG). Furthermore, the air temperature data, extracted by TRNSYS software for Bechar city in Algeria, are used for modeling. The surface temperature, first and second temperatures in the asphalt pavement are obtained. The results revealed that using this waste aggregate increased the surface temperature during the day, which can make it susceptible to rutting. However, it reduced the surface temperature at night. More importantly, the HMAL absorbs 34% and released 47% more heat than HMAG during days and nights. Hence, the HMAG performance can mitigate the UHI effects. High-performance thermal insulations (HPI) have outstanding thermal properties minimizing heat transfer for a particular application. The term "high performance" is a relative assessment: whether an insulating property for a material or material system, i.e. the thermal conductivity or thermal transmittance, is significantly lower than for conventional insulating materials or systems depends on the use case and the associated conditions. Fields of applications for thermal insulations include energy, construction, industry and transport sector, as well as space and aviation industries. The total effective thermal conductivity of evacuated HPI depends on the contributions of the heat transfer via the solid skeleton of the porous insulation material and radiative heat exchange. At a given operating temperature, the effective thermal conductivity results in a minimum that depends on the density and the infrared-optically extinction properties of the insulation material. Examples for HPI with outstanding low thermal conductivity values are presented and compared with the theoretical predictions based on a percolation model for the solid thermal conductivity of the skeleton and on a diffusion model for the radiative heat transfer. This paper develops an FEA modeling protocol for simulating ultra-high-performance concrete-filled double-skin tubes (CFDST) for heat transfer analysis purposes. The research presented in this paper refines the existing FE methodologies for circular, rectangular, elliptical, hexagonal, and octagonal CFDST members under fire conditions. Various modeling parameters, such as thermal properties of different materials and the thermal contact conductance at the interaction surfaces, are incorporated and controlled via an automatic algorithm for proficient modeling. It is found that the available models for calculating the thermal contact conductance at the interfaces between metal tubes and the concrete cores have a strong dependence on the cross-sectional shape. Thus, a refined model of the thermal conductance for the hexagonal and octagonal CFDST columns is proposed. Extensive experimental results (212 fire tests) are assembled from the literature to verify the proposed FE methodology. Good agreements with test results are demonstrated when predicting the temperature fields within the considered CFDST cross-sections. Consequently, extensive results from the proposed algorithm can provide an initial basis for parametric studies and for forthcoming nonlinear stress analysis simulations of CFDST columns under fire, which are primary goals in future studies. Finally, complying with the existing design codes, a new simplified analytical model based on the finite difference (FD) method is presented for predicting the temperature developments through CFDST columns. Phase change materials (PCMs) could be used in envelopes to moderate indoor temperature while hygroscopic materials could be used in envelopes to moderate indoor humidity. However, it remains unsolved whether these two materials are mixed to generate a better effect than single materials. Therefore, a transient model for coupled heat and moisture transfer through hygroscopic PCMs (HPCMs) was presented. The numerical cases of periodic boundary conditions and realistic weather conditions were conducted to investigate the heat and moisture transfer characteristics of three gypsum-based HPCMs containing different mass ratios of microencapsulated PCMs. Quantitative analyses were conducted to capture the effects of hygrothermal properties on heat and moisture transfer characteristics of HPCMs. The numerical results show that the mixing of PCMs and hygroscopic materials could generate a better temperature-humidity controlling effect than pure hygroscopic material, and the condensation risks inside the envelopes could also be reduced. Both the studied cases indicate that the HPCMs could be applied in building envelopes to passively moderate the indoor temperature and humidity simultaneously, reducing the building energy consumption and condensation risks inside the envelopes. The effects of hygroscopic and moisture transfer properties on temperature-control performance of HPCMs are relatively small, while the thermal properties play an important role in the improvement of temperature-humidity controlling performance of HPCMs with the increase of PCM concentration. Micro/nano electronic devices heat dissipation depends heavily on the thermal interface materials (TIMs). Despite notable progress, it is hard to efficaciously enhance the thermal properties of the hybrid TIMs with high-load additives due to an absence of effective heat transfer routes. Herein, the low content of three-dimensional (3D) graphene with interconnected networks is adopted as the additive to improve the thermal properties of epoxy composite TIMs. The thermal diffusivity and thermal conductivity of the as-prepared hybrids were dramatically improved by constructing thermal conduction networks after adding 3D graphene as fillers. The 3D graphene/epoxy hybrid's optimal thermal characteristics were observed at 1.5 wt% of 3D graphene content, corresponding to a maximum enhancement of 683%. Besides, heat transfer experiments were further performed to determine the superb heat dissipation potential of the 3D graphene/epoxy hybrids. Moreover, the 3D graphene/epoxy composite TIM was also applied to high-power LED to improve heat dissipation. It effectively reduced the maximum temperature from 79.8 °C to 74.3 °C. The in situ mining technology is applied to the exploitation of medium- and low-maturity shale oil, which can use heaters to warm up the oil shale formations and pyrolyze the kerogen. Due to the low thermal conductivity of oil shale, electric heaters need extra equipment to improve heat transfer efficiency. In this study, a thermally conductive proppant is fabricated by coating epoxy-resin and graphite on ceramic proppants for the first time, which could support the fracturing crack and transfer heat. The thermal conduction property of epoxy-resin and graphite coated proppants (EGPs) is 245% higher than that of uncoated proppants, which can transfer more heat to the oil shale formation and accelerate the conversion of kerogen. The adhesive property of EGPs is improved by 47.9% under the load force of 1500 nN, which prolongs the time for the fracture to close. The nonlinear variation of thermal conductivity and heat transfer coefficient governed by the power law is considered. The analytical approximation for the non-dimensional temperature profile is obtained using the differential transform method (DTM)-Pade approximant. The nondimensionalization of the governing energy equation using dimensionless terms yields a nonlinear ordinary differential equation (ODE) with corresponding boundary conditions. The resulting ODE is analytically solved with the assistance of the DTM-Pade approximant procedure. Furthermore, the impact of thermal parameters on the temperature field and thermal stress is elaborated with graphs. The important results of the report divulge that temperature distribution greatly enhances with an augmentation of the heat generation parameter, but it gradually reduces with an increment in the magnitude of the thermogeometric and radiative-conductive parameter. This research focuses on the thermal performance of masonry walls overlayed with textile reinforced concrete (TRC) sandwich panels subjected to different climatic zones. Three types of TRC sandwich panels are explored by integrating expanded polystyrene, gypsum and calcium silicate board as core material. The TRC sandwich panels are integrated as outer layers of clay brick masonry wall panels to reduce the amount of heat transfer. Numerical simulation has been carried out using transient heat transfer analysis to determine the performance of various systems under a realistic daily temperature variation in a hot humid and warm humid climatic zone. Thermal response of TRC sandwich panel integrated masonry is validated against the requirements of a design code accepted thermal performance. From the investigations, the most feasible TRC sandwich panel solution that can be integrated for a specific climatic zone is arrived, which leads to reduced heat transfer and it is also ensured the solution satisfies codal requirements. The acceptance of proposed thermally efficient TRC sandwich panel integration with masonry would lead to environmentally friendly and sustainable alternative to achieve thermal comfort inside buildings.
