Background: Subjective well‐being (SWB) and quality of life (QOL) are intricately related constructs. Recent research shows both constructs share some facets, but are distinct entities. It is unclear, both internationally and in the Netherlands, if and how SLTs address SWB in clinical practice. The current study was set up to explore Dutch SLTs' perceptions of SWB in relation to the management of people with aphasia. Aims: To describe how Dutch SLTs, working with people with aphasia in a private practice or a healthcare setting, address patient's SWB during diagnosis and treatment, and to identify barriers and facilitators they experience when addressing SWB. Methods & Procedures: A qualitative research design with a phenomenological approach was used. SLTs from private practices and healthcare settings were invited to participate in individual interviews and a focus group. The data were analysed thematically using a combination of inductive and deductive methods. Outcomes & Results: Eight SLTs participated in the study. The SLTs' experiences were captured in four themes that emerged from the data: (1) SWB is a multifaceted concept and depends on patient‐specific factors: premorbid factors, life priorities and time post‐stroke; (2) SLTs experience more responsibility for patients' SWB than their profession allows; (3) collaboration between SLTs and patients, patients' network and other healthcare professionals is required to address SWB during diagnosis and treatment; and (4) misinterpretations are inevitable when SLTs or the patients' network address patients' SWB. Conclusions & Implications: The results showed that SLTs feel responsible for addressing SWB in the management of people with aphasia. Their perception of the concept of SWB is similar to the definition used in the literature and is multifaceted. They feel responsible for the part of SWB that is related to communicative functioning, but less so for the more heuristic aspects of SWB. This is related to their experienced limitation of influence on SWB, which for some leaves them feeling out of depth and uncertain about boundaries between professionals. Addressing SWB in a multidisciplinary team is therefore considered important in order to adequately and fully capture someone's SWB and reduce to clinicians' experienced burden and responsibility. Background: Active patient involvement in treatment decisions is seen as a feature of patient‐centred care that will ultimately lead to better healthcare services and patient outcomes. Although many factors have been identified that influence patient involvement in treatment decisions, little is known about the different views that patients have on which factors are most important. Objective: This study explores the views of patients with a chronic condition on factors influencing their involvement in treatment decisions. Design: Q‐methodology was used to study the views of patients. Respondents were asked to rank a set of 42 statements from the least important to the most important for active patient involvement in treatment decision‐making. The set of 42 statements was developed based on a literature search and a pilot in which two external researchers, 15 patients and four healthcare professionals participated. A total of 136 patients with one of three major chronic conditions were included: diabetes types 1 and 2, respiratory disease (i.e., chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma) and cancer (i.e., breast cancer and prostate cancer). Data were collected in a face‐to‐face interview setting in the Netherlands. Results: Four distinct views on the factors influencing active patient involvement were identified among patients with a chronic condition. (1) Enabled involvement: the extent to which patients are facilitated and empowered to participate will lead to patient involvement. (2) Relationship‐driven involvement: the relationship between patients and healthcare professionals drives patient involvement. (3) Disease impact‐driven involvement: the severity of disease drives patient involvement. (4) Cognition‐driven involvement: knowledge and information drive patient involvement. Discussion and Conclusion: From the patients' perspective, this study shows that there is no one‐size‐fits‐all approach to involving patients more actively in their healthcare journey. Strategies aiming to enhance active patient involvement among patients with a chronic condition should consider this diversity in perspectives among these patients. Introduction: Numerous scientific studies have established the necessity of a biopsychosocial (BPS) approach in the treatment of chronic pain, however, the implementation into clinical practice falls short. The aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of a BPS pain educational program for primary healthcare providers (PHCP) on changes in knowledge and attitude, and the guideline adherence. Methods: Within an implementation project of the Belgian Federal Government, a BPS pain educational program was developed based on recent scientific research, and barriers and facilitators formulated by an expert panel. 300 PHCP from various disciplines followed the course which contains two e-learning sessions and two one-day face-to-face trainings. Changes in knowledge and attitudes regarding chronic pain were measured using the KNowledge and Attitudes of Pain (KNAP). Guideline adherence was measured with two clinical case vignettes. Participants were measured pre-course, post-course and at a 6-month follow-up. The satisfaction of participants regarding the training and implementation into practice was measured during the course and at the follow-up. Results: A shift towards the biopsychosocial perspective that is in line with clinical guidelines is expected after completing the chronic pain course. Discussion: The pain course developed in the present study might increase the biopsychosocial perspective and guideline adherence of PHCP. Process evaluation: The selection of adequate evaluation tools to assess multidisciplinary groups was challenging. Furthermore, it remains to be established whether the improvements observed in knowledge and attitude questionnaires and the guideline adherence based on clinical vignettes reflect actual change in clinical practice.
