Little is known about the current state of research on the involvement of young people in hate speech. Thus, this systematic review presents findings on a) the prevalence of hate speech among children and adolescents and on hate speech definitions that guide prevalence assessments for this population; and b) the theoretical and empirical overlap of hate speech with related concepts. This review was guided by the Cochrane approach. To be included, publications were required to deal with real-life experiences of hate speech, to provide empirical data on prevalence for samples aged 5 to 21 years and they had to be published in academic formats. Included publications were full-text coded using two raters (κ =.80) and their quality was assessed. The string-guided electronic search (ERIC, SocInfo, Psycinfo, Psyndex) yielded 1,850 publications. Eighteen publications based on 10 studies met the inclusion criteria and their findings were systematized. Twelve publications were of medium quality due to minor deficiencies in their theoretical or methodological foundations. All studies used samples of adolescents and none of younger children. Nine out of 10 studies applied quantitative methodologies. Eighteen publications based on 10 studies were included. Results showed that frequencies for hate speech exposure were higher than those related to victimization and perpetration. Definitions of hate speech and assessment instruments were heterogeneous. Empirical evidence for an often theorized overlap between hate speech and bullying was found. Background: Medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction in skeletally immature patients who experience lateral patellar dislocation has been reported to yield good results. Whether bony abnormalities such as patellar height and trochlear dysplasia should be addressed additionally is a topic of discussion. Purpose: To evaluate patient-reported outcomes and redislocation rates after isolated medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction as first-line surgical treatment for lateral patellar dislocation in skeletally immature patients. Further, to analyze epidemiological, intraoperative, and radiographical factors influencing redislocation and clinical outcome. Study Design: Case series; Level of evidence, 4. Methods: Prospectively collected data were retrospectively analyzed for adolescent patients younger than 16 years who underwent medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction between 2014 and 2018. Inclusion criteria were isolated medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction with gracilis tendon and availability of accurate pre- and postoperative radiographs with the presence of open physes. The patients were questioned regarding further surgery, redislocation, and clinical outcomes using the Tegner Activity Scale, International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) Subjective Knee Form, Lysholm score, and Kujala score. The influence of diverse epidemiological, intraoperative, and radiographical parameters on the redislocation rates and clinical outcome was analyzed. Results: A total of 54 medial patellofemoral ligament reconstructions (49 patients) met the inclusion criteria. After 4.3 ± 1.7 years (range, 2.0-7.3 years), 45 reconstructions (83.3%) in 41 patients were available for follow-up. The distribution of trochlear dysplasia was as follows: type A and B, 19 cases (42.2%) each; type C, 6 cases (13.3%); and type D, 1 case (2.2%). Patellar redislocation occurred in 3 patients (6.7%). The mean Tegner, subjective IKDC, Lysholm, and Kujala scores at follow-up were 6.3 ± 1.6 (range, 3-9), 93.6 ± 8.8, 95.9 ± 7.4, and 97.9 ± 7.1, respectively. Patellar height and trochlear dysplasia had no influence on redislocation or clinical scores. Regardless of their limited evidence and potential adverse effects, use of complementary and alternative medicine is common in children with autism spectrum disorder. Nevertheless, data on complementary and alternative medicine use in children with autism spectrum disorder in Germany are lacking. Therefore, a questionnaire survey on the use of complementary and alternative medicine was distributed to parents of children with autism spectrum disorder from three academic autism spectrum disorder outpatient clinics in Germany. Of 211 respondents, 46% stated that their child currently used or had ever used some form of complementary and alternative medicine in their life. The complementary and alternative medicine modalities most frequently used were manipulative and body-based methods (e.g. craniosacral therapy). And 18% of caregivers expressed willingness to try complementary and alternative medicine treatments for their child with autism spectrum disorder in the future, with mind–body interventions predominating. Health professionals should be aware of the considerable complementary and alternative medicine use prevalence among children with autism spectrum disorder and offer parents information about its effectiveness and potential side effects. Background: Migraine in children and adolescents is associated with significant disability and a high risk of persistence into adulthood.Objective: Data on migraine incidence in children and adolescents are few and relatively coarse. To tailor interventions starting shortly after disease onset, detailed information on age- and sex-specific incidence of migraine in children and adolescents is needed.Methods: We used health care data prospectively collected by the BARMER statutory health insurance, representing ∼11% of the German population. The incidence of migraine diagnoses (International Classification of Diseases (ICD)-10 code G43) in the year 2016 was assessed in subjects aged 0-19 years, who had been continuously insured with the BARMER between 2005 and 2016 or during their entire lifespan.Results: Data from ∼1.2 million children and adolescents were available. The incidence of migraine diagnoses steadily increased with age, reaching ∼1% per year around the age of 10 for both sexes, and 3.49% per year in females and 1.72% per year in males at the age of 19. Incidences in males and females were similar up to the age of 13 and higher in females from there on. The proportion of incident migraine diagnoses specified as "definite" versus "probable" migraine increased with age.Conclusion: The present study provides a representative estimation of the first documented health care use for migraine in children and adolescents in Germany within 1-year age bins, separately for boys and girls. In this study, the effectiveness of a life skills program to impede tobacco use in early adolescence was scrutinized. The focus was on the mediating role of yielding to peer pressure. The universal school-based life skills program IPSY (Information + Psychosocial Competence = Protection) against adolescent substance use was implemented over 3 years. Over the same time period, it was evaluated based on a longitudinal quasi-experimental design with an intervention and comparison group (4 measurement points; N = 1,657 German students, age 10 at T1). By applying a growth curve modeling approach, we found that participation in IPSY compared with non-participation predicted a slower increase in tobacco use over time, suggesting a significant intervention effect. Moreover, a parallel growth curve model revealed that less yielding to peer pressure induced by IPSY mediated the program effects on tobacco use over time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
