Remote sensing is currently showing high potential to provide valuable information at various spatial and temporal scales concerning natural hazards and their associated risks. Recent advances in technology and processing methods have strongly contributed to the development of disaster risk reduction research. In this Special Issue titled "Remote Sensing for Natural Hazards Assessment and Control", we propose state-of-the-art research that specifically addresses multiple aspects of the use of remote sensing for natural hazards. The aim was to collect innovative methodologies, expertise, and capabilities to detect, assess monitor, and model natural hazards. In this regard, 18 open-access papers showcase scientific studies based on the exploitation of a broad range of remote sensing data and techniques, as well as focusing on a well-assorted sample of natural hazard types. Covering the full texts of all papers published in MDPI's Remote Sensing between 2009 and 2021, in-depth scientometric analyses were conducted. Trends in publications show an increase in the overall number of papers. A relative increase in papers using SAR sensors and a relative decrease in papers using optical remote sensing can also be seen. The full-text analyses reveal distinctive styles and writing patterns for papers from different sub-fields of remote sensing and for different countries and even cities. While a slight increase in the readability of abstracts is detected over time, the overall readability of papers is decreasing. Institutional co-authorship analysis reveals the ongoing 'scientific decoupling' between China and the USA in remote sensing. As remote sensing technology has advanced, the use of satellites and similar technologies has become increasingly prevalent in daily life. Now, it plays a crucial role in hydrology, agriculture, and geography. Nevertheless, because of the distinct qualities of remote sensing, including expansive scenes and small, densely packed targets, there are many challenges in detecting remote sensing objects. Those challenges lead to insufficient accuracy in remote sensing object detection. Consequently, developing a new model is essential to enhance the identification capabilities for objects in remote sensing imagery. To solve these constraints, we have designed the OD-YOLO approach that uses multi-scale feature fusion to improve the performance of the YOLOv8n model in small target detection. Firstly, traditional convolutions have poor recognition capabilities for certain geometric shapes. Therefore, in this paper, we introduce the Detection Refinement Module (DRmodule) into the backbone architecture. This module utilizes Deformable Convolutional Networks and the Hybrid Attention Transformer to strengthen the model's capability for feature extraction from geometric shapes and blurred objects effectively. Meanwhile, based on the Feature Pyramid Network of YOLO, at the head of the model framework, this paper enhances the detection capability by introducing a Dynamic Head to strengthen the fusion of different scales features in the feature pyramid. Additionally, to address the issue of detecting small objects in remote sensing images, this paper specifically designs the OIoU loss function to finely describe the difference between the detection box and the true box, further enhancing model performance. Experiments on the VisDrone dataset show that OD-YOLO surpasses the compared models by at least 5.2% in mAP50 and 4.4% in mAP75, and experiments on the Foggy Cityscapes dataset demonstrated that OD-YOLO improved mAP by 6.5%, demonstrating outstanding results in tasks related to remote sensing images and adverse weather object detection. Mission scheduling is an essential function of the management control of remote-sensing satellite application systems. With the continuous development of remote-sensing satellite applications, mission scheduling faces significant challenges. Existing work has many inherent shortcomings in dealing with dynamic task scheduling for remote-sensing satellites. In high-load and complex remote sensing task scenarios, there is low scheduling efficiency and a waste of resources. The paper proposes a scheduling method for remote-sensing satellite applications based on dynamic task prioritization. This paper combines the and Bound methodologies with an onboard task queue scheduling band in an active task prioritization context. A purpose-built emotional task priority-based scheduling blueprint is implemented to mitigate the flux and unpredictability characteristics inherent in the traditional satellite scheduling paradigm, improve scheduling efficiency, and fine-tune satellite resource allocation. Therefore, the Branch and Bound method in remote-sensing satellite task scheduling will significantly save space and improve efficiency. The experimental results show that comparing the technique to the three heuristic algorithms (GA, PSO, DE), the BnB method usually performs better in terms of the maximum value of the objective function, always finds a better solution, and reduces about 80% in terms of running time. Key long-lived greenhouse gases (CO2, CH4, and N2O) are perhaps among the best-studied components of the Earth's atmosphere today; however, attempts to predict or explain trends or even shorter-term variations of these trace gases are not always successful. Infrared spectroscopy is a recognized technique for the ground-based long-term monitoring of the gaseous composition of the atmosphere. The current paper is focused on the analysis of new data on CO2, CH4, and N2O total columns (TCs) retrieved from high resolution IR solar spectra acquired during 2009–2022 at the NDACC atmospheric monitoring station of St. Petersburg State University (STP station, 59.88°N, 29.83°E, 20 m asl.). The paper provides information on the FTIR system (Fourier-transform infrared) installed at the STP station, and an overview of techniques used for the CO2, CH4, and N2O retrievals. Trends of key greenhouse gases and their confidence levels were evaluated using an original approach which combines the Lomb–Scargle method with the cross-validation and bootstrapping techniques. As a result, the following fourteen-year (2009–2022) trends of TCs have been revealed: (0.56 ± 0.01) % yr−1 for CO2; (0.46 ± 0.02) % yr−1 for CH4; (0.28 ± 0.01) % yr−1 for N2O. A comparison with trends based on the EMAC numerical modeling data was carried out. The trends of greenhouse gases observed at the STP site are consistent with the results of the in situ monitoring performed at the same geographical location, and with the independent estimates of the global volume mixing ratio growth rates obtained by the GAW network and the NOAA Global Monitoring Laboratory. There is reasonable agreement between the CH4 and N2O TC trends for 2009–2019, which have been derived from FTIR measurements at three locations: the STP site, Izaña Observatory and the University of Toronto Atmospheric Observatory. Water constitutes an indispensable resource crucial for the sustenance of humanity, as it plays an integral role in various sectors such as agriculture, industrial processes, and domestic consumption. Even though water covers 71% of the global land surface, governments have been grappling with the challenge of ensuring the provision of safe water for domestic use. A contributing factor to this situation is the persistent contamination of available water sources rendering them unfit for human consumption. A common contaminant, pesticides are not frequently tested for despite their serious effects on biodiversity. Pesticide determination in water quality assessment is a challenging task because the procedures involved in the extraction and detection are complex. This reduces their popularity in many monitoring campaigns despite their harmful effects. If the existing methods of pesticide analysis are adapted by leveraging new technologies, then information concerning their presence in water ecosystems can be exposed. Furthermore, beyond the advantages conferred by the integration of wireless sensor networks (WSNs), the Internet of Things (IoT), Machine Learning (ML), and big data analytics, a notable outcome is the attainment of a heightened degree of granularity in the information of water ecosystems. This paper discusses methods of pesticide detection in water, emphasizing the possible use of electrochemical sensors, biosensors, and paper-based sensors in wireless sensing. It also explores the application of WSNs in water, the IoT, computing models, ML, and big data analytics, and their potential for integration as technologies useful for pesticide monitoring in water. In recent decades, climatic pressures have altered the forested landscape of Bavaria. Widespread loss of trees has unevenly impacted the entire state, of which 37% is covered by forests (5% more than the national average). In 2018 and 2019—due in large part to drought and subsequent insect infestations—more tree-covered areas were lost in Bavaria than in any other German state. Moreover, the annual crown condition survey of Bavaria has revealed a decreasing trend in tree vitality since 1998. We conducted a systematic literature review regarding the remote sensing of forests in Bavaria. In total, 146 scientific articles were published between 2008 and 2023. While 88 studies took place in the Bavarian Forest National Park, only five publications covered the whole of Bavaria. Outside of the national park, the remaining 2.5 million hectares of forest in Bavaria are understudied. The most commonly studied topics were related to bark beetle infestations (24 papers); however, few papers focused on the drivers of infestations. The majority of studies utilized airborne data, while publications utilizing spaceborne data focused on multispectral; other data types were under-utilized- particularly thermal, lidar, and hyperspectral. We recommend future studies to both spatially broaden investigations to the state or national scale and to increase temporal data acquisitions together with contemporaneous in situ data. Especially in understudied topics regarding forest response to climate, catastrophic disturbances, regrowth and species composition, phenological timing, and in the sector of forest management. The utilization of remote sensing data in the forestry sector and the uptake of scientific results among stakeholders remains a challenge compared to other heavily forested European countries. An integral part of the Bavarian economy and the tourism sector, forests are also vital for climate regulation via atmospheric carbon reduction and land surface cooling. Most advances in the remote sensing of floating marine plastic litter have been made using passive remote-sensing techniques in the visible (VIS) to short-wave-infrared (SWIR) parts of the electromagnetic spectrum based on the spectral absorption features of plastic surfaces. In this paper, we present developments of new and emerging remote-sensing technologies of marine plastic litter such as passive techniques: fluid lensing, multi-angle polarimetry, and thermal infrared sensing (TIS); and active techniques: light detection and ranging (LiDAR), multispectral imaging detection and active reflectance (MiDAR), and radio detection and ranging (RADAR). Our review of the detection capabilities and limitations of the different sensing technologies shows that each has their own weaknesses and strengths, and that there is not one single sensing technique that applies to all kinds of marine litter under every different condition in the aquatic environment. Rather, we should focus on the synergy between different technologies to detect marine plastic litter and potentially the use of proxies to estimate its presence. Therefore, in addition to further developing remote-sensing techniques, more research is needed in the composition of marine litter and the relationships between marine plastic litter and their proxies. This paper discusses thermal infrared (TIR) remote sensing technology applied to the delineation of geothermal resources, a significant renewable energy source. The technical characteristics and current status of TIR remote sensing is discussed and related to the integration of geological structure, geophysical data, and geochemical analyses. Also discussed are surface temperature inversion algorithms used to delineate anomalous ground-surface temperatures. Unlike traditional geophysical and geochemical exploration methods, remote sensing technology exhibits considerable advantages in terms of convenience and coverage extent. Due to budget and sensor technology constraints, a single sensor cannot simultaneously provide observational images with both a high spatial and temporal resolution. To solve the above problem, the spatiotemporal fusion (STF) method was proposed and proved to be an indispensable tool for monitoring land surface dynamics. There are relatively few systematic reviews of the STF method. Bibliometrics is a valuable method for analyzing the scientific literature, but it has not yet been applied to the comprehensive analysis of the STF method. Therefore, in this paper, we use bibliometrics and scientific mapping to analyze the 2967 citation data from the Web of Science from 1991 to 2023 in a metrological manner, covering the themes of STF, data fusion, multi-temporal analysis, and spatial analysis. The results of the literature analysis reveal that the number of articles displays a slow to rapid increase during the study period, but decreases significantly in 2023. Research institutions in China (1059 papers) and the United States (432 papers) are the top two contributors in the field. The keywords "Sentinel", "deep learning" (DL), and "LSTM" (Long Short-Term Memory) appeared most frequently in the past three years. In the future, remote sensing spatiotemporal fusion research can address more of the limitations of heterogeneous landscapes and climatic conditions to improve fused images' accuracy. In response to the challenges posed by small objects in remote sensing images, such as low resolution, complex backgrounds, and severe occlusions, this paper proposes a lightweight improved model based on YOLOv8n. During the detection of small objects, the feature fusion part of the YOLOv8n algorithm retrieves relatively fewer features of small objects from the backbone network compared to large objects, resulting in low detection accuracy for small objects. To address this issue, firstly, this paper adds a dedicated small object detection layer in the feature fusion network to better integrate the features of small objects into the feature fusion part of the model. Secondly, the SSFF module is introduced to facilitate multi-scale feature fusion, enabling the model to capture more gradient paths and further improve accuracy while reducing model parameters. Finally, the HPANet structure is proposed, replacing the Path Aggregation Network with HPANet. Compared to the original YOLOv8n algorithm, the recognition accuracy of mAP@0.5 on the VisDrone data set and the AI-TOD data set has increased by 14.3% and 17.9%, respectively, while the recognition accuracy of mAP@0.5:0.95 has increased by 17.1% and 19.8%, respectively. The proposed method reduces the parameter count by 33% and the model size by 31.7% compared to the original model. Tectonic features on the Moon can reflect the state of stress during the formation of the structure, and sinuous rilles can provide further insight into the tectonic-thermal evolution of the Moon. Manual visual interpretation is the primary method for extracting these linear structures due to their complex morphology. However, extracting these features from the vast amount of lunar remote sensing data requires significant time and effort from researchers, especially for small-scale tectonic features, such as wrinkle ridges, lobate scarps, and high-relief ridges. In order to enhance the efficiency of linear structure detection, this paper conducts research on the automatic detection method of linear structures using sinuous rilles as an example case. In this paper, a multimodal semantic segmentation method, "Sinuous Rille Network (SR-Net)", for detecting sinuous rilles is proposed based on DeepLabv3+. This method combines advanced techniques such as ECA-ResNet and dynamic feature fusion. Compared to other networks, such as PSPNet, ResUNet, and DeepLabv3+, SR-Net demonstrates superior precision (95.20%) and recall (92.18%) on the multimodal sinuous rille test set. The trained SR-Net was applied in detecting lunar sinuous rilles within the range of 60°S to 60°N latitude. A new catalogue of sinuous rilles was generated based on the results of the detection process. The methodology proposed in this paper is not confined to the detection of sinuous rilles; with further improvements, it can be extended to the detection of other linear structures. Faced with the problem of incompatibility between traditional information acquisition mode and spaceborne earth observation tasks, starting from the general mathematical model of compressed sensing, a theoretical model of block compressed sensing was established, and a full-process adaptive coding and decoding compressed sensing framework for remote sensing images was proposed, which includes five parts: mode selection, feature factor extraction, adaptive shape segmentation, adaptive sampling rate allocation and image reconstruction. Unlike previous semi-adaptive or local adaptive methods, the advantages of the adaptive encoding and decoding method proposed in this paper are mainly reflected in four aspects: (1) Ability to select encoding modes based on image content, and maximizing the use of the richness of the image to select appropriate sampling methods; (2) Capable of utilizing image texture details for adaptive segmentation, effectively separating complex and smooth regions; (3) Being able to detect the sparsity of encoding blocks and adaptively allocate sampling rates to fully explore the compressibility of images; (4) The reconstruction matrix can be adaptively selected based on the size of the encoding block to alleviate block artifacts caused by non-stationary characteristics of the image. Experimental results show that the method proposed in this article has good stability for remote sensing images with complex edge textures, with the peak signal-to-noise ratio and structural similarity remaining above 35 dB and 0.8. Moreover, especially for ocean images with relatively simple image content, when the sampling rate is 0.26, the peak signal-to-noise ratio reaches 50.8 dB, and the structural similarity is 0.99. In addition, the recovered images have the smallest BRISQUE value, with better clarity and less distortion. In the subjective aspect, the reconstructed image has clear edge details and good reconstruction effect, while the block effect is effectively suppressed. The framework designed in this paper is superior to similar algorithms in both subjective visual and objective evaluation indexes, which is of great significance for alleviating the incompatibility between traditional information acquisition methods and satellite-borne earth observation missions. Spartina alterniflora (S. alterniflora) has grown rapidly in China since its introduction in 1979, showing the trend of alien species invasion, which has seriously affected the ecosystem balance of coastal wetlands. The temporal and spatial expansion law of S. alterniflora can be obtained through remote sensing monitoring, which can provide a reference and basis for S. alterniflora management. This paper presents a method for extracting and mapping S. alterniflora based on phenological characteristics. The coastal areas of the Yangtze River Delta Urban Agglomeration are selected as the research area, and the Landsat time series data from 1990 to 2022 on the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform are used to support the experiment in this paper. Firstly, the possible growing area of S. alterniflora was extracted using the normalized differential moisture index (NDMI), normalized differential vegetation index (NDVI), and normalized differential water index (NDWI); Then, the time series curve characterizing the phenological characteristics of vegetation was constructed using the vegetation index to determine the difference phase of phenological characteristics between S. alterniflora and other vegetation. Finally, a decision tree was constructed based on the phenological feature difference phase data to extract S. alterniflora, and it is applied to the analysis of temporal and spatial changes of S. alterniflora in the study area from 1990 to 2022. The results show that the area of S. alterniflora increased from ~1426 ha in 1990 to ~44,508 ha in 2022. However, the area of S. alterniflora began to show negative growth in 2015 due to the construction of nature reserves and ecological management. The results of correlation analysis showed that the growth of C. japonicum was significantly affected by temperature stress and weakly affected by precipitation. This study verified that Landsat time series images can effectively extract vegetation phenological information, which has strong feasibility for extraction and dynamic monitoring of S. alterniflora and provides technical support for the management and monitoring of invasive plants in coastal wetlands. This document is a summary of a special issue on advanced machine learning and deep learning techniques for remote sensing. The issue includes 16 research papers that cover a range of topics, including hyperspectral image classification, moving point target detection, radar echo extrapolation, and remote sensing object detection. Each paper introduces a novel approach or model and provides extensive testing and evaluation to demonstrate its effectiveness. As the second most predominant greenhouse gas, methane-targeted emission mitigation holds the potential to decelerate the pace of global warming. Satellite remote sensing is an important monitoring tool, and we review developments in the satellite detection of methane. This paper provides an overview of the various types of satellites, including the various instrument parameters, and describes the different types of satellite retrieval algorithms. In addition, the currently popular methane point source quantification method is presented. Based on existing research, we delineate the classification of methane remote sensing satellites into two overarching categories: area flux mappers and point source imagers. Area flux mappers primarily concentrate on the assessment of global or large-scale methane concentrations, with a further subclassification into active remote sensing satellites (e.g., MERLIN) and passive remote sensing satellites (e.g., TROPOMI, GOSAT), contingent upon the remote sensing methodology employed. Such satellites are mainly based on physical models and the carbon dioxide proxy method for the retrieval of methane. Point source imagers, in contrast, can detect methane point source plumes using their ultra-high spatial resolution. Subcategories within this classification include multispectral imagers (e.g., Sentinel-2, Landsat-8) and hyperspectral imagers (e.g., PRISMA, GF-5), contingent upon their spectral resolution disparities. Area flux mappers are mostly distinguished by their use of physical algorithms, while point source imagers are dominated by data-driven methods. Furthermore, methane plume emissions can be accurately quantified through the utilization of an integrated mass enhancement model. Finally, a prediction of the future trajectory of methane remote sensing satellites is presented, in consideration of the current landscape. With the rapid advancement of remote-sensing technology, the spectral information obtained from hyperspectral remote-sensing imagery has become increasingly rich, facilitating detailed spectral analysis of Earth's surface objects. However, the abundance of spectral information presents certain challenges for data processing, such as the "curse of dimensionality" leading to the "Hughes phenomenon", "strong correlation" due to high resolution, and "nonlinear characteristics" caused by varying surface reflectances. Consequently, dimensionality reduction of hyperspectral data emerges as a critical task. This paper begins by elucidating the principles and processes of hyperspectral image dimensionality reduction based on manifold theory and learning methods, in light of the nonlinear structures and features present in hyperspectral remote-sensing data, and formulates a dimensionality reduction process based on manifold learning. Subsequently, this study explores the capabilities of feature extraction and low-dimensional embedding for hyperspectral imagery using manifold learning approaches, including principal components analysis (PCA), multidimensional scaling (MDS), and linear discriminant analysis (LDA) for linear methods; and isometric mapping (Isomap), locally linear embedding (LLE), Laplacian eigenmaps (LE), Hessian locally linear embedding (HLLE), local tangent space alignment (LTSA), and maximum variance unfolding (MVU) for nonlinear methods, based on the Indian Pines hyperspectral dataset and Pavia University dataset. Furthermore, the paper investigates the optimal neighborhood computation time and overall algorithm runtime for feature extraction in hyperspectral imagery, varying by the choice of neighborhood k and intrinsic dimensionality d values across different manifold learning methods. Based on the outcomes of feature extraction, the study examines the classification experiments of various manifold learning methods, comparing and analyzing the variations in classification accuracy and Kappa coefficient with different selections of neighborhood k and intrinsic dimensionality d values. Building on this, the impact of selecting different bandwidths t for the Gaussian kernel in the LE method and different Lagrange multipliers λ for the MVU method on classification accuracy, given varying choices of neighborhood k and intrinsic dimensionality d, is explored. Through these experiments, the paper investigates the capability and effectiveness of different manifold learning methods in feature extraction and dimensionality reduction within hyperspectral imagery, as influenced by the selection of neighborhood k and intrinsic dimensionality d values, identifying the optimal neighborhood k and intrinsic dimensionality d value for each method. A comparison of classification accuracies reveals that the LTSA method yields superior classification results compared to other manifold learning approaches. The study demonstrates the advantages of manifold learning methods in processing hyperspectral image data, providing an experimental reference for subsequent research on hyperspectral image dimensionality reduction using manifold learning methods. In recent years, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have become a popular and cost-effective technology in urban scenarios, encompassing applications such as material transportation, aerial photography, remote sensing, and disaster relief. However, the execution of prolonged tasks poses a heightened challenge owing to the constrained endurance of UAVs. This paper proposes a model to accurately represent urban scenarios and an unmanned system. Restricted zones, no-fly zones, and building obstructions to the detection range are introduced to make sure the model is realistic enough. We also introduced an unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) into the model to solve the endurance of the UAVs in this long-time task scenario. The UGV and UAVs constituted a heterogeneous unmanned system to collaboratively solve the path-planning problem in the model. Building upon this model, this paper designs a Three-stage Alternating Optimization Algorithm (TAOA), involving two crucial steps of prediction and rolling optimization. A three-stage scheme is introduced to rolling optimization to effectively address the complex optimization process for the unmanned system. Finally, the TAOA was experimentally validated in both synthetic scenarios and scenarios modeled based on a real-world location to demonstrate their reliability. The experiments conducted in the synthetic scenarios aimed to assess the algorithm under hypothetical conditions, while the experiments in the scenarios based on real-world locations provided a practical evaluation of the proposed methods in more complex and authentic environments. The consistent performance observed across these experiments underscores the robustness and effectiveness of the proposed approaches, supporting their potential applicability in various real-world scenarios. Extreme forest fires have historically been a significant concern in Canada, the Russian Federation, the USA, and now pose an increasing threat in boreal Europe. This paper deals with application of the wildFire cLimate impacts and Adaptation Model (FLAM) in boreal forests. FLAM operates on a daily time step and utilizes mechanistic algorithms to quantify the impact of climate, human activities, and fuel availability on wildfire probabilities, frequencies, and burned areas. In our paper, we calibrate the model using historical remote sensing data and explore future projections of burned areas under different climate change scenarios. The study consists of the following steps: (i) analysis of the historical burned areas over 2001–2020; (ii) analysis of temperature and precipitation changes in the future projections as compared to the historical period; (iii) analysis of the future burned areas projected by FLAM and driven by climate change scenarios until the year 2100; (iv) simulation of adaptation options under the worst-case scenario. The modeling results show an increase in burned areas under all Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) scenarios. Maintaining current temperatures (RCP 2.6) will still result in an increase in burned area (total and forest), but in the worst-case scenario (RCP 8.5), projected burned forest area will more than triple by 2100. Based on FLAM calibration, we identify hotspots for wildland fires in the boreal forest and suggest adaptation options such as increasing suppression efficiency at the hotspots. We model two scenarios of improved reaction times—stopping a fire within 4 days and within 24 h—which could reduce average burned forest areas by 48.6% and 79.2%, respectively, compared to projected burned areas without adaptation from 2021–2099. The halfway point for the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was marked in 2023, as set forth in the 2030 Agenda. Geospatial technologies have proven indispensable in assessing and tracking fundamental components of each of the 17 SDGs, including climatological and ecological trends, and changes and humanitarian crises and socio-economic impacts. However, gaps remain in the capacity for geospatial and related digital technologies, like AI, to provide a deeper, more comprehensive understanding of the complex and multi-factorial challenges delineated in the SDGs. Lack of progress toward these goals, and the immense implementation challenges that remain, call for inclusive and holistic approaches, coupled with transformative uses of digital technologies. This paper reviews transdisciplinary, holistic, and participatory approaches to address gaps in ethics and diversity in geospatial and related technologies and to meet the pressing need for bottom-up, community-driven initiatives. Small-scale, community-based initiatives are known to have a systemic and aggregate effect toward macro-economic and global environmental goals. Cybernetic systems thinking approaches are the conceptual framework investigated in this study, as these approaches suggest that a decentralized, polycentric system—for example, each community acting as one node in a larger, global system—has the resilience and capacity to create and sustain positive change, even if it is counter to top-down decisions and mechanisms. Thus, this paper will discuss how holistic systems thinking—societal, political, environmental, and economic choices considered in an interrelated context—may be central to building true resilience to climate change and creating sustainable development pathways. Traditional and Indigenous knowledge (IK) systems around the world hold holistic awareness of human-ecological interactions—practicable, reciprocal relationships developed over time as a cultural approach. This cultural holistic approach is also known as Systemic Literacy, which considers how systems function beyond "mechanical" aspects and include political, philosophical, psychological, emotional, relational, anthropological, and ecological dimensions. When Indigenous-led, these dimensions can be unified into participatory, community-centered conservation practices that support long-term human and environmental well-being. There is a growing recognition of the criticality of Indigenous leadership in sustainability practices, as well as that partnerships with Indigenous peoples and weaving knowledge systems, as a missing link to approaching global ecological crises. This review investigates the inequality in technological systems—the "digital divide" that further inhibits participation by communities and groups that retain knowledge of "place" and may offer the most transformative solutions. Following the review and synthesis, this study presents cybernetics as a bridge of understanding to Indigenous systems thinking. As non-Indigenous scholars, we hope that this study serves to foster informed, productive, and respectful dialogues so that the strength of diverse knowledges might offer whole-systems approaches to decision making that tackle wicked problems. Lastly, we discuss use cases of community-based processes and co-developed geospatial technologies, along with ethical considerations, as avenues toward enhancing equity and making advances in democratizing and decolonizing technology. As artificial intelligence technology advances, the application of object detection technology in the field of SAR (synthetic aperture radar) imagery is becoming increasingly widespread. However, it also faces challenges such as resource limitations in spaceborne environments and significant uncertainty in the intensity of interference in application scenarios. These factors make the performance evaluation of object detection key to ensuring the smooth execution of tasks. In the face of such complex and harsh application scenarios, methods that rely on single-dimensional evaluation to assess models have had their limitations highlighted. Therefore, this paper proposes a multi-dimensional evaluation method for deep learning models used in SAR image object detection. This method evaluates models in a multi-dimensional manner, covering the training, testing, and application stages of the model, and constructs a multi-dimensional evaluation index system. The training stage includes assessing training efficiency and the impact of training samples; the testing stage includes model performance evaluation, application-based evaluation, and task-based evaluation; and the application stage includes model operation evaluation and model deployment evaluation. The evaluations of these three stages constitute the key links in the performance evaluation of deep learning models. Furthermore, this paper proposes a multi-indicator comprehensive evaluation method based on entropy weight correlation scaling, which calculates the weights of each evaluation indicator through test data, thereby providing a balanced and comprehensive evaluation mechanism for model performance. In the experiments, we designed specific interferences for SAR images in the testing stage and tested three models from the YOLO series. Finally, we constructed a multi-dimensional performance profile diagram for deep learning object detection models, providing a new visualization method to comprehensively characterize model performance in complex application scenarios. This can provide more accurate and comprehensive model performance evaluation for remote sensing data processing, thereby guiding model selection and optimization. The evaluation method proposed in this study adopts a multi-dimensional perspective, comprehensively assessing the three core stages of a model's lifecycle: training, testing, and application. In view of the ecological threat posed by cyanobacteria blooms in Taihu Lake (China), this paper presents a study on the area of cyanobacteria extent based on MODIS data using the quantum particle swarm optimization–random forest (QPSO-RF) machine learning algorithm. This paper selects multiple remote sensing input indices that can represent the characteristics of the primary underlying type in Taihu Lake. The proposed method performs best, with an F1 score of 0.91–0.98. Based on this method, the spatio-temporal variation of cyanobacteria blooms in the Taihu Lake complex was analyzed. During 2010–2022, the average area of cyanobacteria blooms in Taihu Lake increased slightly. Severe-scale cyanobacteria blooms occurred in 2015–2019. Cyanobacteria blooms were normally concentrated from May to November. However, the most prolonged extended duration occurred in 2017, lasting for eight months. Spatially, cyanobacteria blooms were mainly identified in the northwestern part of Taihu Lake, with an average occurrence frequency of about 10.0%. The cyanobacteria blooms often began to grow in the northwestern part of the lake and then spread to the Center of the Lake, and also dissipated earliest in the northwestern part of the lake. High-resolution and high-squint spaceborne spotlight synthetic aperture radar (SAR) has significant potential for extensive application in remote sensing, but its swath width effectiveness is constrained by a critical factor: severe range cell migration (RCM). To address this, pulse repetition interval (PRI) variation offers a practical scheme for raw data reception. However, the current designs for continuously varying PRI (CV-PRI) exhibit high complexity in engineering. In response to the issue, this paper proposes a novel strategy of stepwise varying PRI (SV-PRI), which demonstrates higher reconstruction accuracy compared with CV-PRI. Furthermore, confronting the azimuth non-uniform sampling characteristics induced by the PRI variation, this paper introduces a complete uniform reconstruction processing based on the azimuth partitioning methodology, which effectively alleviates the inherent contradiction between resolution and swath width. The processing flow, utilizing the temporal point remapping (TPR) concept, ensures the uniformity and coherence of dataset partitioning and reassembly in the context of the interpolation on non-uniform grids. Finally, according to the simulation results, the point target data, processed through the processing flow proposed in this study, have demonstrated effective focusing results. This paper presents a forward modeling method for the scattering center (SC) model of dynamic ships on time-varying sea surfaces, tailored for remote sensing and target-recognition applications. Grounded in ship hydrodynamics, the methodology delineates ship movements amidst fluctuating waves, harnessing computer graphics to integrate ship–sea geometries across diverse temporal instances. Utilizing the four-path model, the composite scattering effects are segregated into distinct ship and sea contributions, along with their mutual interactions. Augmented by high-frequency electromagnetic principles, the paper quantifies and deduces SC parameters, culminating in a 3-D parameterized SC model for complex maritime targets. Unlike conventional inverse methods, this approach employs a "cause-to-effect" forward strategy, establishing clear links between SCs and local geometries, enhancing the model's physical clarity. Using the fishing ship as a case, this research compared the normalized similarity index and position-matching rate between the reconstructed synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image and the simulated SAR image. The results indicate that all computed results exceeded 90%. Furthermore, a comparison was conducted between the reconstructed radar cross-sections (RCS) obtained by expanding the model within a large angular range and the simulated results. The root mean square error between the two was less than 3 dB, affirming the accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed model. Additionally, the research examines the variations in SCs during the six-degrees-of-freedom motions, providing a detailed quantitative analysis of their temporal trends in amplitude and position. Large rivers without hydrological data from remote sensing observations have recently become a hot research topic. The Irrawaddy River is among the major tropical rivers worldwide; however, published hydrological data on this river have rarely been obtained in recent years. In this paper, based on the existing measured the total suspended matter flux (FTSM) and discharge data for the Irrawaddy River, an inversion model of the total suspended matter concentration (CTSM) is constructed for the Irrawaddy River, and the CTSM and FTSM from 1990 to 2020 are estimated using the L1 products of Landsat-8 OLI/TIRS and Landsat-5 TM. The results show that over the last 30 years, the FTSM of the Irrawaddy River decreased at a rate of 3.9 Mt/yr, which is significant at the 99% confidence interval. An increase in the vegetation density of the Irrawaddy Delta has increased the land conservation capacity of the region and reduced the inflow of land-based total suspended matter (TSM). The FTSM of the Irrawaddy River was estimated by fusing satellite data and data measured at hydrological stations. The common channel attention mechanism maps feature statistics to feature weights. However, the effectiveness of this mechanism may not be assured in remotely sensing images due to statistical differences across multiple bands. This paper proposes a novel channel attention mechanism based on feature information called the feature information entropy attention mechanism (FEM). The FEM constructs a relationship between features based on feature information entropy and then maps this relationship to their importance. The Vaihingen dataset and OpenEarthMap dataset are selected for experiments. The proposed method was compared with the squeeze-and-excitation mechanism (SEM), the convolutional block attention mechanism (CBAM), and the frequency channel attention mechanism (FCA). Compared with these three channel attention mechanisms, the mIoU of the FEM in the Vaihingen dataset is improved by 0.90%, 1.10%, and 0.40%, and in the OpenEarthMap dataset, it is improved by 2.30%, 2.20%, and 2.10%, respectively. High-resolution remote sensing image-based vegetation monitoring is a hot topic in remote sensing technology and applications. However, when facing large-scale monitoring across different sensors in broad areas, the current methods suffer from fragmentation and weak generalization capabilities. To address this issue, this paper proposes a multisource high-resolution remote sensing image-based vegetation extraction method that considers the comprehensive perception of multiple features. First, this method utilizes a random forest model to perform feature selection for the vegetation index, selecting an index that enhances the otherness between vegetation and other land features. Based on this, a multifeature synthesis perception convolutional network (MSCIN) is constructed, which enhances the extraction of multiscale feature information, global information interaction, and feature cross-fusion. The MSCIN network simultaneously constructs dual-branch parallel networks for spectral features and vegetation index features, strengthening multiscale feature extraction while reducing the loss of detailed features by simplifying the dense connection module. Furthermore, to facilitate global information interaction between the original spectral information and vegetation index features, a dual-path multihead cross-attention fusion module is designed. This module enhances the differentiation of vegetation from other land features and improves the network's generalization performance, enabling vegetation extraction from multisource high-resolution remote sensing data. To validate the effectiveness of this method, we randomly selected six test areas within Anhui Province and compared the results with three different data sources and other typical methods (NDVI, RFC, OCBDL, and HRNet). The results demonstrate that the MSCIN method proposed in this paper, under the premise of using only GF2 satellite images as samples, exhibits robust accuracy in extraction results across different sensors. It overcomes the rapid degradation of accuracy observed in other methods with various sensors and addresses issues such as internal fragmentation, false positives, and false negatives caused by sample generalization and image diversity. The point cloud segmentation method plays an important role in practical applications, such as remote sensing, mobile robots, and 3D modeling. However, there are still some limitations to the current point cloud data segmentation method when applied to large-scale scenes. Therefore, this paper proposes an adaptive clustering segmentation method. In this method, the threshold for clustering points within the point cloud is calculated using the characteristic parameters of adjacent points. After completing the preliminary segmentation of the point cloud, the segmentation results are further refined according to the standard deviation of the cluster points. Then, the cluster points whose number does not meet the conditions are further segmented, and, finally, scene point cloud data segmentation is realized. To test the superiority of this method, this study was based on point cloud data from a park in Guilin, Guangxi, China. The experimental results showed that this method is more practical and efficient than other methods, and it can effectively segment all ground objects and ground point cloud data in a scene. Compared with other segmentation methods that are easily affected by parameters, this method has strong robustness. In order to verify the universality of the method proposed in this paper, we test a public data set provided by ISPRS. Monocular depth estimation using a single remote sensing image has emerged as a focal point in both remote sensing and computer vision research, proving crucial in tasks such as 3D reconstruction and target instance segmentation. Monocular depth estimation does not require multiple views as references, leading to significant improvements in both time and efficiency. Due to the complexity, occlusion, and uneven depth distribution of remote sensing images, there are currently few monocular depth estimation methods for remote sensing images. This paper proposes an approach to remote sensing monocular depth estimation that integrates an attention mechanism while considering global and local feature information. Leveraging a single remote sensing image as input, the method outputs end-to-end depth estimation for the corresponding area. In the encoder, the proposed method employs a dense neural network (DenseNet) feature extraction module with efficient channel attention (ECA), enhancing the capture of local information and details in remote sensing images. In the decoder stage, this paper proposes a dense atrous spatial pyramid pooling (DenseASPP) module with channel and spatial attention modules, effectively mitigating information loss and strengthening the relationship between the target's position and the background in the image. Additionally, weighted global guidance plane modules are introduced to fuse comprehensive features from different scales and receptive fields, finally predicting monocular depth for remote sensing images. Maritime transport, responsible for delivering over eighty percent of the world's goods, is the backbone of the global delivery industry. However, it also presents considerable environmental risks, particularly regarding aquatic contamination. Nearly ninety percent of marine oil spills near shores are attributed to human activities, highlighting the urgent need for continuous and effective surveillance. To address this pressing issue, this paper introduces a novel technique named OS-BREEZE. This method employs an Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) for assessing the extent of oil pollution on the sea surface. The OS-BREEZE algorithm directs the USV along the spill edge, facilitating rapid and accurate assessment of the contaminated area. The key contribution of this paper is the development of this novel approach for monitoring and managing marine pollution, which significantly reduces the path length required for mapping and estimating the size of the contaminated area. Furthermore, this paper presents a scale model experiment executed at the Coastal and Marine Engineering Research Institute (CAMERI). This experiment demonstrated the method's enhanced speed and efficiency compared to traditional monitoring techniques. Mesoscale eddies have an impact on the marine environment mainly in two areas, namely, currents and changes in the sound velocity gradient due to temperature and salt stirring. The traditional underwater-related remote sensing acoustic remote sensing model is capable of analyzing the acoustic field under the change in sound velocity gradient, but it is not capable of analyzing the acoustic field under the influence of ocean currents. In order to more effectively analyze the changes in the acoustic field caused by mesoscale eddies, this paper proposes a FEM flow impact model applied to the rapid computation of acoustic remote sensing of mesoscale eddies in the sea area. The algorithm first performs a grid optimization of the sea area model based on vertical sound velocity variations and completes the classification of sound velocity layer junctions. At the same time, we construct the sound velocity gradient environment affected by the mesoscale eddy and then simplify the fluid flow in the mesoscale eddy into a non-viscous and non-rotating velocity potential, and then participate in the solution of the three-dimensional spatial fluctuation equations in the form of time-harmonic in the frequency domain, from which we can obtain the truncated sound pressure as well as the propagation loss, and quickly and completely characterize the acoustic remote sensing of the sea area of the mesoscale eddy. The paper verifies the effectiveness of the algorithm through SW06-contained flow experiments and further proposes an optimization formula for sound velocity inversion. We analyze this using measured data of mesoscale eddy fields in the Bering Sea waters during 2022 and find that eddies have a greater effect on the propagation of the acoustic field along their flow direction. The increasing frequency and magnitude of landslides underscore the growing importance of landslide prediction in light of factors like climate change. Traditional methods, including physics-based methods and empirical methods, are beset by high costs and a reliance on expert knowledge. With the advancement of remote sensing and machine learning, data-driven methods have emerged as the mainstream in landslide prediction. Despite their strong generalization capabilities and efficiency, data-driven methods suffer from the loss of semantic information during training due to their reliance on a 'sequence' modeling method for landslide scenarios, which impacts their predictive accuracy. An innovative method for landslide prediction is proposed in this paper. In this paper, we propose an innovative landslide prediction method. This method designs the NADE ontology as the schema layer and constructs the data layer of the knowledge graph, utilizing tile lists, landslide inventory, and environmental data to enhance the representation of complex landslide scenarios. Furthermore, the transformation of the landslide prediction task into a link prediction task is carried out, and a knowledge graph embedding model is trained to achieve landslide predictions. Experimental results demonstrate that the method improves the F1 score by 5% in scenarios with complete datasets and 17% in scenarios with sparse datasets compared to data-driven methods. Additionally, the application of the knowledge graph embedding model is utilized to generate susceptibility maps, and an analysis of the effectiveness of entity embeddings is conducted, highlighting the potential of knowledge graph embeddings in disaster management. With the rapid development of remote sensing technology, remote sensing products have found increasingly widespread applications across various fields. Nevertheless, as the volume of remote sensing image data continues to grow, traditional data retrieval techniques have encountered several challenges such as substantial query results, data overlap, and variations in data quality. Users need to manually browse and filter a large number of remote sensing datasets, which is a cumbersome and inefficient process. In order to cope with these problems of traditional remote sensing image retrieval methods, this paper proposes a remote sensing image retrieval algorithm for dense data (DD-RSIRA). The algorithm establishes evaluation metrics based on factors like imaging time, cloud coverage, and image coverage. The algorithm utilizes the global grids to create an ensemble coverage relation between images and grids. A locally optimal initial solution is obtained by a greedy algorithm, and then a local search is performed to search for the optimal solution by combining the strategies of weighted gain-loss scheme and novel mechanism. Ultimately, it achieves an optimal coverage of remote sensing images within the region of interest. In this paper, it is shown that the method obtains a smaller number of datasets with lower redundancy and higher data utilization and ensures the data quality to a certain extent in order to accurately meet the requirements of the regional coverage of remote sensing images. The detection of burnt areas from satellite imagery is one of the most straightforward and useful applications of satellite remote sensing. In general, the approach relies on a change detection analysis applied on pre- and post-event images. This change detection analysis usually is carried out by comparing the values of specific spectral indices such as: NBR (normalised burn ratio), BAI (burn area index), MIRBI (mid-infrared burn index). However, some potential sources of error arise, particularly when near-real-time automated approaches are adopted. An automated approach is mandatory when the burnt area monitoring should operate systematically on a given area of large size (country). Potential sources of errors include but are not limited to clouds on the pre- or post-event images, clouds or topographic shadows, agricultural practices, image pixel size, level of damage, etc. Some authors have already noted differences between global databases of burnt areas based on satellite images. Sources of errors could be related to the spatial resolution of the images used, the land-cover mask adopted to avoid false alarms, and the quality of the cloud and shadow masks. This paper aims to compare different burnt areas datasets (EFFIS, ESACCI, Copernicus, FIRMS, etc.) with the objective to analyse their differences. The comparison is restricted to the Italian territory. Furthermore, the paper aims to identify the degree of approximation of these satellite-based datasets by relying on ground survey data as ground truth. To do so, ground survey data provided by CUFA (Comando Unità Forestali, Ambientali e Agroalimentari Carabinieri) and CFVA (Corpo Forestale e Vigilanza Ambientale Sardegna) were used. The results confirm the existence of significant differences between the datasets. The subsequent comparison with the ground surveys, which was conducted while also taking into account their own approximations, allowed us to identify the accuracy of the satellite-based datasets. This paper proposes an efficient and high-fidelity image fusion method based on adaptive smoothing filtering for panchromatic (PAN) and multispectral (MS) image fusion. The scale ratio reflects the ratio of spatial resolution between the panchromatic image and the multispectral image. When facing a multiscale fusion task, traditional methods are unable to simultaneously handle the problems of spectral resolution loss resulting from high scale ratios and the issue of reduced spatial resolution due to low scale ratios. To adapt to the fusion of panchromatic and multispectral satellite images of different scales, this paper improves the problem of the insufficient filtering of high-frequency information of remote sensing images of different scales by the classic filter-based intensity modulation (SFIM) model. It uses Gaussian convolution kernels instead of traditional mean convolution kernels and builds a Gaussian pyramid to adaptively construct convolution kernels of different scales to filter out high-frequency information of high-resolution images. It can adaptively process panchromatic multispectral images of different scales, iteratively filter the spatial information in panchromatic images, and ensure that the scale transformation is consistent with the definition of multispectral images. Using 15 common fusion methods, this paper compares the experimental results of ZY-3 with scale ratio 2.7 and SV-1 with scale ratio 4 data. This research is part of a wider framework of index literature studies that have been conducted in the past few years. Some of these have had a focus on specific remote sensing (RS) technologies, while others have tackled specific threats to cultural heritage and landscapes. By considering both damages to heritage sites and technologies used for documentation and the monitoring of such occurrences, this paper unveils the current trends on a global scale in the study of the threats to heritage caused by both human-induced and natural hazards. Papers published by Europe-based researchers over the last 20 years using RS and Earth Observation (EO) techniques were surveyed alongside recommendations and programmatic documents issued by institutions in charge of heritage protection and management of several countries in Europe. Around 300 documents, including scientific articles (published from 2000 until 2022) and Grey literature (from 2008 and 2022), were analysed. The data collection and analysis were undertaken by a working group that was intentionally composed to bring together diverse perspectives and expertise, i.e., requirements of heritage professionals using RS and EO technologies, knowledge on technologies and their use in the field, and expertise in methodology implementation to support heritage management. The results highlight the type of hazards considered the most and the geographical distribution of the archaeological sites and monuments targeted by these studies; the countries the researchers are affiliated with; the types of RS and specifically satellite-based technologies used (and hence the type of data used); the tendencies of satellite data usage—visual interpretation, image processing, employment of machine learning, and AI; the technologies most applied by public institutions and practitioners; and many others. Recommendations and future trajectories are then outlined to efficiently reframe discrepancies between types of damage that have received the greatest attention in the literature and the most impactful ones in terms of the number of sites damaged. Landslides constitute a significant hazard to human life, safety and natural resources. Traditional landslide investigation methods demand considerable human effort and expertise. To address this issue, this study introduces an innovative landslide segmentation framework, EMR-HRNet, aimed at enhancing accuracy. Initially, a novel data augmentation technique, CenterRep, is proposed, not only augmenting the training dataset but also enabling the model to more effectively capture the intricate features of landslides. Furthermore, this paper integrates a RefConv and Multi-Dconv Head Transposed Attention (RMA) feature pyramid structure into the HRNet model, augmenting the model's capacity for semantic recognition and expression at various levels. Last, the incorporation of the Dilated Efficient Multi-Scale Attention (DEMA) block substantially widens the model's receptive field, bolstering its capability to discern local features. Rigorous evaluations on the Bijie dataset and the Sichuan and surrounding area dataset demonstrate that EMR-HRNet outperforms other advanced semantic segmentation models, achieving mIoU scores of 81.70% and 71.68%, respectively. Additionally, ablation studies conducted across the comprehensive dataset further corroborate the enhancements' efficacy. With the continuous maturity of hyperspectral remote sensing imaging technology, it has been widely adopted by scholars to improve the performance of feature classification. However, due to the challenges in acquiring hyperspectral images and producing training samples, the limited training sample is a common problem that researchers often face. Furthermore, efficient algorithms are necessary to excavate the spatial and spectral information from these images, and then, make full use of this information with limited training samples. To solve this problem, a novel two-branch deep learning network model is proposed for extracting hyperspectral remote sensing features in this paper. In this model, one branch focuses on extracting spectral features using multi-scale convolution and a normalization-based attention module, while the other branch captures spatial features through small-scale dilation convolution and Euclidean Similarity Attention. Subsequently, pooling and layering techniques are employed to further extract abstract features after feature fusion. In the experiments conducted on two public datasets, namely, IP and UP, as well as our own labeled dataset, namely, YRE, the proposed DMAN achieves the best classification results, with overall accuracies of 96.74%, 97.4%, and 98.08%, respectively. Compared to the sub-optimal state-of-the-art methods, the overall accuracies are improved by 1.05, 0.42, and 0.51 percentage points, respectively. The advantage of this network structure is particularly evident in unbalanced sample environments. Additionally, we introduce a new strategy based on the RPNet, which utilizes a small number of principal components for feature classification after dimensionality reduction. The results demonstrate its effectiveness in uncovering compressed feature information, with an overall accuracy improvement of 0.68 percentage points. Consequently, our model helps mitigate the impact of data scarcity on model performance, thereby contributing positively to the advancement of hyperspectral remote sensing technology in practical applications. This paper presents the observational, remote sensing, and model simulation used to analyze southern Brazil Antarctic ozone hole influence (SBAOHI) events that occurred between 2005 and 2014. To analyze it, we use total ozone column (TOC) data provided by a Brewer spectrophotometer (BS) and the OMI (Ozone Monitoring Instrument). In addition to the AURA/MLS (Microwave Limb Sounder) instrument, satellite ozone profiles were utilized with DYBAL (Dynamical Barrier Localization) code in the MIMOSA (Modélisation Isentrope du Transport Mésoéchelle de l'Ozone Stratosphérique par Advection) model Potential Vorticity (PV) fields. TOC has 7.0 ± 2.9 DU reductions average in 62 events. October has more events (30.7%). Polar tongue events are 19.3% in total, being more frequently observed in October (50% of cases), with medium intensity (58.2%), and in the stratosphere medium levels (55.0%). Instance segmentation is pivotal in remote sensing image (RSI) analysis, aiding in many downstream tasks. However, annotating images with pixel-wise annotations is time-consuming and laborious. Despite some progress in automatic annotation, the performance of existing methods still needs improvement due to the high precision requirements for pixel-level annotation and the complexity of RSIs. With the support of large-scale data, some foundational models have made significant progress in semantic understanding and generalization capabilities. In this paper, we delve deep into the potential of the foundational models in automatic annotation and propose a training-free automatic annotation method called DiffuPrompter, achieving pixel-level automatic annotation of RSIs. Extensive experimental results indicate that the proposed method can provide reliable pseudo-labels, significantly reducing the annotation costs of the segmentation task. The study of ancient irrigation is crucial in the archaeological research of arid regions. It covers a wide range of topics, with the Near East being the focus for decades. However, political instability and limited data have posed challenges to these studies. The primary objective is to establish a standardised method applicable to different arid environments using the Google Earth Engine platform, considering local relief of terrain and seasonal differences in vegetation. This study integrates multispectral data from LANDSAT 5, Sentinel-2, SAR imagery from Sentinel 1, and TanDEM-X (12 m and 30 m) DSMs. Using these datasets, calculations of selected vegetation indices such as the SMTVI and NDVSI, spectral decomposition methods such as TCT and PCA, and topography-based methods such as the MSRM contribute to a comprehensive understanding of landscape irrigation. This paper investigates the influence of modern environmental conditions on the visibility of features like levees and palaeo-channels by testing different methods and parameters. This study aims to identify the most effective approach for each case study and explore the possibility of applying a consistent method across all areas. Heterogeneous image change detection is a very practical and challenging task because the data in the original image have a large distribution difference and the labeled samples of the remote sensing image are usually very few. In this study, we focus on solving the issue of comparing heterogeneous images without supervision. This paper first designs a self-paced multi-scale joint feature mapper (SMJFM) for the mapping of heterogeneous data to similar feature spaces for comparison and incorporates a self-paced learning strategy to weaken the mapper's capture of non-consistent information. Then, the difference information in the output of the mapper is evaluated from two perspectives, namely noise robustness and detail preservation effectiveness; then, the change detection problem is modeled as a multi-objective optimization problem. We decompose this multi-objective optimization problem into several scalar optimization subproblems with different weights, and use particle swarm optimization to optimize these subproblems. Finally, the robust evaluation strategy is used to fuse the multi-scale change information to obtain a high-precision binary change map. Compared with previous methods, the proposed SMJFM framework has the following three main advantages: First, the unsupervised design alleviates the dilemma of few labels in remote sensing images. Secondly, the introduction of self-paced learning enhances SMJFM's capture of the unchanged region mapping relationship between heterogeneous images. Vegetation classification has always been the focus of remote sensing applications, especially for tropical regions with fragmented terrain, cloudy and rainy climates, and dense vegetation. How to effectively classify vegetation in tropical regions by using multi-spectral remote sensing with high resolution and red-edge spectrum needs to be further verified. Based on the experiment in Wenchang, Hainan, China, which is located in the tropical monsoon region, and combined with the ZY-1 02D 2.5 m fused images in January, March, July, and August, this paper discusses whether NDVI and four red-edge vegetation indices (VIs), CIre, NDVIre, MCARI, and TCARI, can promote vegetation classification and reduce the saturation. The results show that the schemes with the highest classification accuracies in all phases are those in which the red-edge VIs are involved, which suggests that the red-edge VIs can effectively contribute to the classification of vegetation. The maximum accuracy of the single phase is 86%, and the combined accuracy of the four phases can be improved to 92%. It has also been found that CIre and NDVIre do not reach saturation as easily as NDVI and MCARI in July and August, and their ability to enhance the separability between different vegetation types is superior to that of TCARI. In general, red-edge VIs can effectively promote vegetation classification in tropical monsoon regions, and red-edge VIs, such as CIre and NDVIre, have an anti-saturation performance, which can slow down the confusion between different vegetation types due to saturation. Mesoscale eddies are structures of seawater motion with horizontal scales of tens to hundreds of kilometers, impact depths of tens to hundreds of meters, and time scales of days to months. This study presents a statistical analysis of mesoscale eddies in the South China Sea (SCS) from 1993 to 2021 based on eddies extracted from satellite remote sensing data using the vector geometry eddy detection method. On average, about 230 eddies with a wide spatial and temporal distribution are observed each year, and the numbers of CEs (52.2%) and AEs (47.8%) are almost similar, with a significant correlation in spatial distribution. In this article, eddies with a lifetime of at least 28 days (17% of the number of total eddies) are referred to as strong eddies (SEs). The SEs in the SCS that persist for several years in similar months and locations, such as the well-known dipole eddies consisting of CEs and AEs offshore eastern Vietnam, are defined as persistent strong eddies (PSEs). SEs and PSEs affect the thermohaline structure, current field, and material and energy transport in the upper ocean. This paper is important as it names the SEs and PSEs, and the naming of eddies can facilitate research on specific major eddies and improve public understanding of mesoscale eddies as important oceanic phenomena. With the advancement of remote sensing technology, the demand for the accurate monitoring and tracking of various targets utilizing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is increasing. However, challenges such as object deformation, motion blur, and object occlusion during the tracking process could significantly affect tracking performance and ultimately lead to tracking drift. To address this issue, this paper introduces a high-precision target-tracking method with anomaly tracking status detection and recovery. An adaptive feature fusion strategy is proposed to improve the adaptability of the traditional sum of template and pixel-wise learners (Staple) algorithm to changes in target appearance and environmental conditions. Additionally, the Moth Flame Optimization (MFO) algorithm, known for its strong global search capability, is introduced as a re-detection algorithm in case of tracking failure. Furthermore, a trajectory-guided Gaussian initialization technique and an iteration speed update strategy are proposed based on sexual pheromone density to enhance the tracking performance of the introduced re-detection algorithm. Change detection is crucial for evaluating land use, land cover changes, and sustainable development, constituting a significant component of Earth observation tasks. The difficulty in extracting features from high-resolution images, coupled with the complexity of image content, poses challenges for traditional change detection algorithms in terms of accuracy and applicability. The recent emergence of deep learning methods has led to substantial progress in the field of change detection. However, existing frameworks often involve the simplistic integration of bi-temporal features in specific areas, lacking the fusion of temporal information and semantic details in the images. In this paper, we propose an attention-guided multi-scale fusion network (AMFNet), which effectively integrates bi-temporal image features and diverse semantics at both the encoding and decoding stages. AMFNet utilizes a unique attention-guided mechanism to dynamically adjust feature fusion, enhancing adaptability and accuracy in change detection tasks. Our method intelligently incorporates temporal information into the deep learning model, considering the temporal dependency inherent in these tasks. We decode based on an interactive feature map, which improves the model's understanding of evolving patterns over time. Additionally, we introduce multi-level supervised training to facilitate the learning of fused features across multiple scales. In comparison with different algorithms, our proposed method achieves F1 values of 0.9079, 0.8225, and 0.8809 in the LEVIR-CD, GZ-CD, and SYSU-CD datasets, respectively. Our model outperforms the SOTA model, SAGNet, by 0.69% in terms of F1 and 1.15% in terms of IoU on the LEVIR-CD dataset, by 2.8% in terms of F1 and 1.79% in terms of IoU on the GZ-CD dataset, and by 0.54% in terms of F1 and 0.38% in terms of IoU on the SYSU-CD dataset. The hyperspectral image (HSI) distinguishes itself in material identification through its exceptional spectral resolution. However, its spatial resolution is constrained by hardware limitations, prompting the evolution of HSI super-resolution (SR) techniques. Single HSI SR endeavors to reconstruct high-spatial-resolution HSI from low-spatial-resolution inputs, and recent progress in deep learning-based algorithms has significantly advanced the quality of reconstructed images. However, convolutional methods struggle to extract comprehensive spatial and spectral features. Transformer-based models have yet to harness long-range dependencies across both dimensions fully, thus inadequately integrating spatial and spectral data. To solve the above problem, in this paper, we propose a new HSI SR method, SSAformer, which merges the strengths of CNNs and Transformers. It introduces specially designed attention mechanisms for HSI, including spatial and spectral attention modules, and overcomes the previous challenges in extracting and amalgamating spatial and spectral information. Evaluations on benchmark datasets show that SSAformer surpasses contemporary methods in enhancing spatial details and preserving spectral accuracy, underscoring its potential to expand HSI's utility in various domains, such as environmental monitoring and remote sensing.
