[ES] Los sistemas de refrigeración por eyección activados por calor de origen renovable o fuentes de calor residual tienen el potencial de alcanzar ahorros energéticos significativos al sustituir o asistir a los sistemas de refrigeración tradicionales. Su campo de aplicabilidad es muy amplio y el presente trabajo se ha centrado en un estudio detallado de dos aplicaciones con gran potencial siguiendo un enfoque computacional: (i) generación de aire acondicionado activado por energía solar térmica y (ii) refrigeración de la admisión de un motor de combustión reutilizando la energía térmica disponible en la línea de escape de este. Las actividades de investigación han estado dirigidas a mitigar dos de los principales puntos débiles que caracterizan a los ciclos de refrigeración por eyección: su eficiencia relativamente baja y la incapacidad mostrada por la configuración base del ciclo de eyección para operar de forma robusta en condiciones de operación alejadas de las de diseño. La primera cuestión ha sido abordada principalmente diseñando geometrías de eyector altamente optimizadas usando técnicas de mecánica de fluidos computacional y optimizando la integración del eyector en el conjunto del sistema de refrigeración. La segunda cuestión se ha abordado caracterizando el comportamiento del sistema en condiciones de diseño y fuera de diseño. Se han propuesto dos estrategias avanzadas para hacer frente a la caída de prestaciones que sufre el sistema al operar en condiciones fuera de diseño, como son la utilización de eyectores de geometría ajustable o la implementación de tanques de almacenamiento térmico. La respuesta del sistema se ha analizado en condiciones fuera de diseño con dos aproximaciones temporales complementarias. Los modelos estacionarios se han usado para optimizar las diferentes arquitecturas de eyector y la operación global del sistema en ciertas condiciones de operación representativas, mientras que el análisis transitorio representa un enfoque más realista y tiene en cuenta la naturaleza impredecible e inestable de la climatología. El estudio se ha concluido con un análisis termoeconómico, el cual ha sido útil para discernir si los diseños altamente optimizados son competitivos al ser comparados con las soluciones de refrigeración que se encuentran actualmente consolidadas en el mercado. La principal conclusión del análisis en condiciones estáticas para la aplicación termosolar es que la transformación de potencia térmica a potencia de refrigeración puede alcanzar un rendimiento del 37.7%, mientras que el rendimiento global del sistema alcanza el 20.1% con diseños altamente optimizados de eyector para unas condiciones de evaporación y condensación de 13°C y 40°C, respectivamente. En condiciones dinámicas, la implementación de la geometría variable mejora en torno a un 40% el rendimiento del sistema de refrigeración, además de incrementar su operatividad. El tanque de almacenamiento térmico juega un papel relevante en este aspecto y, para una envergadura de colector parabólico de 7.1 m, un consumo nominal de 13.3 kW de potencia térmica del tanque ha resultado ser una solución de compromiso para mantener en equilibrio los principales indicadores de prestaciones. El análisis termoeconómico de la arquitectura más prometedora sugiere que el ahorro de coste operativo está lejos de poder compensar la elevada inversión inicial en equipamiento (16.905€ para una capacidad de refrigeración aproximada de 5.6 kW), destacando la dificultad del sistema para competir con las soluciones de refrigeración actualmente consolidadas en el mercado y resaltando la necesidad de considerar soluciones híbridas. L'estudi s'ha conclòs amb un anàlisi termoeconòmic, el qual ha sigut útil per a discernir si els dissenys altament optimitzats són competitius quan es comparen amb les solucions de refrigeració que es troben actualment consolidades al mercat. La principal conclusió de l'anàlisi en condicions estàtiques per a l'aplicació termosolar és que la transformació de potència tèrmica a potència de refrigeració pot arribar a un rendiment del 37.7%, mentre que el rendiment global del sistema arriba al 20.1 % amb dissenys altament optimitzats d'ejector per a unes condicions d'evaporació i condensació de 13°C i 40°C, respectivament. Their field of applicability is vast and the present work has been focused on a detailed study of two applications with great potential following a computational approach: (i) air-conditioning generation powered by solar thermal energy and (ii) internal combustion engine intake air refrigeration powered by its exhaust line waste heat. The research efforts have been directed towards mitigating the negative effect of two of the main weak points of jet-ejector refrigeration systems: their relatively low efficiency and the incapacity of the baseline configuration to operate robustly away from the design conditions. The first issue has been addressed mainly by designing highly optimized jet-ejector geometries using computational fluid dynamics techniques and optimizing the jet-ejector integration in the overall system. The second one has been addressed by carrying out complete characterizations of the refrigeration system response in design and off-design conditions. Advanced strategies to face the refrigeration system performance decay away from design conditions have been proposed, like the utilization of adjustable jet-ejector architectures or the implementation of hot thermal storage tanks. The system response has been analyzed in off-design conditions with two complementary temporal schemes. The steady-state models have been used to optimize the jet-ejector architectures and the overall system operation for representative operating scenarios, while the transient analysis represents a more realistic approach and accounts for changes in climatic conditions, which have an unpredictable and unstable nature. The study has been concluded with a thermoeconomic analysis, which has been useful to discern if the highly optimized designs are competitive when compared to existing refrigeration solutions consolidated in the market. The main conclusions of the steady-state analysis for the solar application are that the transformation from thermal power to refrigeration power can achieve an efficiency of 37.7%, while the global efficiency achieves 20.1% when highly optimized jet-ejectors are used for an evaporating and condensing conditions of 13°C and 40°C, respectively. In dynamic conditions, the implantation of an adjustable jet-ejector brings improvements in refrigeration system efficiency of around 40%, besides improving its capacity to remain in operation. The thermal storage system plays a relevant role in this sense and, for a fixed parabolic trough collector span of 7.1 m, a nominal thermal power consumption of 13.3 kW represents a trade-off between the performance indicators subject to analysis. The thermoeconomic assessment of the most promising system architecture suggests that the operating cost savings are far from compensating for the capital expenditures (16,905€ for a refrigeration capacity of approximately 5.6 kW), evidencing the difficulties of the system to compete against refrigeration solutions currently consolidated in the market and outlining the interest in hybrid solutions. The main conclusion of the automotive application is that it is feasible to achieve in the engine intake line temperatures below 4°C, bringing improvements in volumetric engine efficiency of around 11%. This briefing paper describes and evaluates the law and economics of institution(al) protection schemes. Throughout our analysis, we use Europe’s largest such scheme, that of German savings banks, as paradigm. We find strengths and weaknesses: Strong network-internal monitoring and early warning seems to be an important contributor to IPS network success. Similarly, the geographical quasi-cartel encourages banks to build a strong client base, including SME, in all regions. Third, the growth of the IPS member institutions may have benefitted from the strictly unlimited protection offered, in terms of euro amounts per account holder. The counterweighing weaknesses encompass the conditionality of the protection pledge and the underinvestment risk it entails, sometimes referred to as blackmailing the government, as well as the limited diversification potential of the deposit insurance within the network, and the near-incompatibility of the IPS model with the provisions of the BRRD, particularly relating to bail-in and resolution. Consequently, we suggest, as policy guidance, to treat large IPS networks similar to large banking groups, and put them as such under the direct supervision of the ECB within the SSM. Moreover, we suggest strengthening the seriousness of a deposit insurance that offers unlimited protection. Finally, to improve financial stability, we suggest embedding the IPS model into a multi-tier deposit re-insurance scheme, with a national and a European layer. Unplanned 30-day cancer readmissions are an important outcome of cancer hospitalization and can significantly raise mortality rates and costs for both the patient and the hospital. This paper aimed to develop a predictive model using machine learning and electronic health records to predict unplanned 30-day cancer readmissions and further develop it as a clinical decision support system. The three-stage study design followed the 2022 AMIA Artificial Intelligence Evaluation Showcase. In the first stage, the technical performance of the model was determined (81% of AUROC) and contributing factors were identified. In the second stage, the technical feasibility and workflow considerations of using such a predictive model were explored through semi-structured interviews. In the third stage, a decision tree analysis and a cost estimation showed that the model can reduce unplanned readmissions significantly if timely action is taken and that preventing a single readmission may significantly reduce costs.

This paper illustrates some significant elements related to the recreational linguistics for adults and teachers. Moreover, it presents some activities implemented and discussed during a webinar framed within a digital project of Italian language teachers training. The two authors start from a theoretical overview of the complex dimension of the game, with particular reference to its numerous benefits in professional and personal growth as well as in lifelong learning. Then, they focus on recreational linguistics, describing some activities to introduce, expand, and strengthen vocabulary. The paper also describes how to stimulate ideas, knowledge, and intercultural dialogue among teachers and among learners. Survival analysis or time-to-event analysis aims to model and predict the time it takes for an event of interest to happen in a population or an individual. In the medical context this event might be the time of dying, metastasis, recurrence of cancer, etc. Recently, the use of neural networks that are specifically designed for survival analysis has become more popular and an attractive alternative to more traditional methods. In this paper, we take advantage of the inherent properties of neural networks to federate the process of training of these models. This is crucial in the medical domain since data is scarce and collaboration of multiple health centers is essential to make a conclusive decision about the properties of a treatment or a disease. To ensure the privacy of the datasets, it is common to utilize differential privacy on top of federated learning. Differential privacy acts by introducing random noise to different stages of training, thus making it harder for an adversary to extract details about the data. However, in the realistic setting of small medical datasets and only a few data centers, this noise makes it harder for the models to converge. To address this problem, we propose DPFed-post which adds a post-processing stage to the private federated learning scheme. This extra step helps to regulate the magnitude of the noisy average parameter update and easier convergence of the model. For our experiments, we choose 3 real-world datasets in the realistic setting when each health center has only a few hundred records, and we show that DPFed-post successfully increases the performance of the models by an average of up to $17\%$ compared to the standard differentially private federated learning scheme.

This paper has the intention to determine the benefits of using industrial hemp as a constructive material in the modern construction industry, with emphasis on Hempcrete as a substitute for conventional building materials. This paper also reviews the current global environmental situation as a serious problem, which one of the main creators is the modern construction industry, and the possibilities of using Hempcrete as a building material, whose main ingredient is industrial hemp. Also, this paper analyzes the methodology of creating this composite material and its possibilities in construction, and the possible construction methods.

The off-flavor disorder is one of the most quality deteriorating and undesirable postharvest physiological disorders in fresh fruits. Over-biosynthesis and accumulation of ethanol metabolism-related metabolites such as acetaldehyde and ethanol have been associated with an alcoholic off-flavor disorder in various fresh fruits at both pre- and postharvest stages. Correspondingly, many studies have reported the association of such off-flavor disorders with several inducing factors, including anaerobic respiration, low O2 stress, high CO2 stress, and storage temperature stress, that upregulate ethanol metabolism in fruits. Furthermore, numerous metabolic and physiological mechanisms that govern ethanol metabolism under such factors are subsequently addressed. These mechanisms include the γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) shunt pathway, mitochondrial energy metabolism, glycolysis, Krebs or TCA cycle, cytosolic malate metabolism, and starch and sugar metabolism. To summarize the relevant findings, the current paper reviews the literature on alcoholic off-flavor disorder, focusing on the role of significant underlying causes and key metabolic and physiological mechanisms in boosting ethanol metabolism in fresh fruits. In addition, recent measures that have been already taken or are in progress to control the higher activity of ethanol metabolism that may eventually result in limiting the alcoholic off-flavor disorder in harvested fresh fruits have also been discussed. Moreover, functions of metabolic mechanisms, including respiratory mechanisms, and other factors such as fruit genetic makeup, degree of maturity, and postharvest handling and storage conditions, are needed to be investigated in future work at both physiological and transcriptomics levels to reveal the additional relation to alcoholic off-flavor disorders in fresh fruits during ripening and storage.

This paper proposes the initial strategy of designing two degree of freedom proportional integral derivative (2DOF-PID) made load frequency control (LFC) action optimized using Jaya optimization algorithm for a hydro-hydro system. At first, the PID optimized through Jaya is used for hydro-dominated system, and the comparative analysis of all possible error definitions are carried out to show the benefits of selecting integral time absolute error (ITAE) for LFC. Then, 2DOF-PID is designed for the hydro governing system, and its performance is compared with other designs to show the efficacy of the present LFC about computed error values gain of the various models via graphical LFC. The results obtained through simulations are promising but oscillatory with greater settling time. Hence, the proposed controller is retuned by considering the unified power flow control (UPFC) in arrangement with the tie-line and redox flow battery (RFB) units in area-2, and it is further seen that the outcomes of the application show the prevalence of the proposed work.

This paper provides an overview of the United States (US) Department of Energy's (DOE's) Energy Exascale Earth System Model version 2 (E3SMv2) fully coupled regionally refined model (RRM) and documents the overall atmosphere, land, and river results from the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project 6 (CMIP6) DECK (Diagnosis, Evaluation, and Characterization of Klima) and historical simulations – a first-of-its-kind set of climate production simulations using RRM. The North American (NA) RRM (NARRM) is developed as the high-resolution configuration of E3SMv2 with the primary goal of more explicitly addressing DOE's mission needs regarding impacts to the US energy sector facing Earth system changes. The NARRM features finer horizontal resolution grids centered over NA, consisting of 25→100 km atmosphere and land, a 0.125∘ river-routing model, and 14→60 km ocean and sea ice. By design, the computational cost of NARRM is ∼3× of the uniform low-resolution (LR) model at 100 km but only ∼ 10 %–20 % of a globally uniform high-resolution model at 25 km. A novel hybrid time step strategy for the atmosphere is key for NARRM to achieve improved climate simulation fidelity within the high-resolution patch without sacrificing the overall global performance. The global climate, including climatology, time series, sensitivity, and feedback, is confirmed to be largely identical between NARRM and LR as quantified with typical climate metrics. Over the refined NA area, NARRM is generally superior to LR, including for precipitation and clouds over the contiguous US (CONUS), summertime marine stratocumulus clouds off the coast of California, liquid and ice phase clouds near the North Pole region, extratropical cyclones, and spatial variability in land hydrological processes. The improvements over land are related to the better-resolved topography in NARRM, whereas those over ocean are attributable to the improved air–sea interactions with finer grids for both atmosphere and ocean and sea ice. Some features appear insensitive to the resolution change analyzed here, for instance the diurnal propagation of organized mesoscale convective systems over CONUS and the warm-season land–atmosphere coupling at the southern Great Plains. In summary, our study presents a realistically efficient approach to leverage the fully coupled RRM framework for a standard Earth system model release and high-resolution climate production simulations.

The near-globally distributed ecto-parasitic mite of theApis melliferahoneybee,Varroa destructor,has formed a lethal association with Deformed wing virus, a once rare and benign RNA virus. In concert, the two have killed millions of wild and managed colonies, particularly across the Northern Hemisphere, forcing the need for regular acaricide application to ensure colony survival. However, despite the short association (in evolutionary terms), a small but increasing number ofA. melliferapopulations across the globe have been surviving many years without any mite control methods. This long-term survival, orVarroaresistance, is consistently associated with the same suite of traits (recapping, brood removal and reduced mite reproduction) irrespective of location. Here we conduct an analysis of data extracted from 60 papers to illustrate how these traits connect together to explain decades of mite resistance data. We have potentially a unified understanding of naturalVarroaresistance that will help the global industry achieve widespread miticide-free beekeeping and indicate how different honeybee populations across four continents have resolved a recent threat using the same suite of behaviours.

This study provides a wider view over Romanian contemporary painting from the two national poles of art: Iasi, located in the north-east part of the country and Timisoara, representing the west sideof Romania. It is focused on fusing painting and drawing, with anarray of works on paper such as drawings, watercolor, altered photographs and mixed media by Smaranda Moldovan and mixedmediaportraits on canvas by Ioana Palamar. Both study cases present a microcosmos of the intangible culturalheritage withroots in memory, not a collective one, but an individual one – a long term memory and aniconic memory of landscapes fromRomania and France. The study shows the importance of memory incontemporary art, even if it was nominated as a cliche. The authors believe that memory has still not beensufficiently offered as an empirical art research method and that memory combined with the two genders,painting and drawing, can produce a new and unique repository of imagery.

The accurate prediction of photovoltaic (PV) power is essential for planning power systems and constructing intelligent grids. However, this has become difficult due to the intermittency and instability of PV power data. This paper introduces a deep learning framework based on 7.5 min-ahead and 15 min-ahead approaches to predict short-term PV power. Specifically, we propose a hybrid model based on singular spectrum analysis (SSA) and bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM) networks with the Bayesian optimization (BO) algorithm. To begin, the SSA decomposes the PV power series into several sub-signals. Then, the BO algorithm automatically adjusts hyperparameters for the deep neural network architecture. Following that, parallel BiLSTM networks predict the value of each component. Finally, the prediction of the sub-signals is summed to generate the final prediction results. The performance of the proposed model is investigated using two datasets collected from real-world rooftop stations in eastern China. The 7.5 min-ahead predictions generated by the proposed model can reduce up to 380.51% error, and the 15 min-ahead predictions decrease by up to 296.01% error. The experimental results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed model in comparison to other forecasting methods.

A horizontal drum kiln is a traditional method widely used in Southeast Asian countries for producing biochar. An understanding of temperature conditions in the kiln and its influence on biochar properties is crucial for identifying suitable biochar applications. In this study, four agricultural residues (corncob, coconut husk, coconut shell, and rice straw) were used for drum kiln biochar production. The agricultural residues were turned into biochar within 100–200 min, depending on their structures. The suitability of biochar for briquette fuels was analyzed using proximate, ultimate, and elemental analysis. The biochar’s physical and chemical properties were characterized via bulk density, iodine number, pHpzc, SEM, and FTIR measurements. All biochars had low O/C and H/C ratios and negative charge from both carbonyl and hydroxyl groups. Coconut husk and shell biochar had desirable properties such as high heating value and a high amount of surface functional groups which can interact with nutrients in soil. These biochars are thus suitable for use for a variety of purposes including as biofuels, adsorbents, and as soil amendments.

Early childhood caries is an irreversible and a polymicrobial disease commonly seen in very young children. Deciduous tooth are the one which is commonly affected in this. The various factors which cause early childhood caries includes diet (carbohydrate), microbes chiefly streptococcus mutans and lactobacillus, host, saliva and time. The clinical manifestations include decayed tooth in mostly posterior and anterior tooth with pain, sinus opening with pus discharges. These stages if left untreated would lead to poor nutrition intake and even cause various psychological effects. This paper provides an overview of hearing loss effects on neurological function and progressive diseases; and explores the role of cognitive load monitoring to detect dementia. It also investigates the prospects of utilizing hearing aid technology to reverse cognitive decline and delay the onset of dementia, for the old age population. The interrelation between hearing loss, cognitive load and dementia is discussed. Future considerations for improvement with respect to robust diagnosis, user centricity, device accuracy and privacy for wider clinical practice is also explored. Based on the novel structural online control policy (SOCP) deadlock handling method presented in our previous work, we have shown that for a specific group of use cases it is possible to relax the requirements of the method, providing an improvement in its performance. In the present work, a new type of deadlock-free zone was introduced which enabled the method to improve its efficiency for both bidirectional as well as unidirectional and mixed path systems. For bidirectional systems, a beneficial outcome was obtained by approaching the global problem solution using sequentially solved local problems. For unidirectional and mixed systems, on the other hand, this paper introduces a condition that allows verification of the feasibility of performing process reservations in a staged manner. The fulfillment of this condition means that there is a possibility of obtaining higher efficiency of the transportation system. The effectiveness of the proposed approaches has been verified by simulations. Their results were compared with the results of the original method resulting in a significant improvement.

These sites serve as a great source to gather data for data analytics, sentiment analysis, natural language processing, etc. Conventionally, the true sentiment of a customer review matches its corresponding star rating. There are exceptions when the star rating of a review is opposite to its true nature. These are labeled as the outliers in a dataset in this work. The state-of-the-art methods for anomaly detection involve manual searching, predefined rules, or traditional machine learning techniques to detect such instances. This paper conducts a sentiment analysis and outlier detection case study for Amazon customer reviews, and it proposes a statistics-based outlier detection and correction method (SODCM), which helps identify such reviews and rectify their star ratings to enhance the performance of a sentiment analysis algorithm without any data loss. This paper focuses on performing SODCM in datasets containing customer reviews of various products, which are (a) scraped from Amazon.com and (b) publicly available. The paper also studies the dataset and concludes the effect of SODCM on the performance of a sentiment analysis algorithm. The results exhibit that SODCM achieves higher accuracy and recall percentage than other state-of-the-art anomaly detection algorithms.

Objectives: To conduct a meta-analysis to assess the efficacy of scalp acupuncture (SA) in patients with stroke and consequent hemiparesis regardless of brain infarction or intracerebral hemorrhage.Methods: A literature search of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on SA for stroke was performed in five databases up to May 10, 2021. We investigated three types of outcome: motor function, sequelae of poststroke hemiparesis, and adverse effects. Methodological quality was assessed using the revised Cochrane risk of bias tool version 2.0.Results: Of 1,063 papers, 30 RCTs involving Fugl–Meyer Assessment were selected, among which 10 and four RCTs were selected for evaluation of courses lasting of 1 and 3 months, respectively. The meta-analysis of 1- and 3-month courses revealed significant differences in the motor function of the SA plus Western standard treatment group vs. Western standard treatment only (medication plus rehabilitation; P < 0.001). A 3-month course tended to result in better outcomes than a 1-month course.Conclusions: Our meta-analysis results reveal that SA improves motor function in patients with acute to chronic stroke, regardless of brain infarction or intracerebral hemorrhage. However, because of a lack of methodological quality, thoroughly planned clinical studies are still required.

According to the latest World Economic Forum report, about 70% of the African population depends on agriculture for their livelihood. This makes agriculture a critical sector within the African continent. Nonetheless, agricultural productivity is low and food insecurity is still a challenge. This has in recent years led to several initiatives in using ICT to improve agriculture productivity. However, a systematic review of the evidence categorized by the various aspects of the topic is lacking. This study investigates the state of the art of ICT innovations within the agriculture sector in Africa. To achieve this, we reviewed the literature published from 2010 to 2019 in which ICT innovations were discussed. Our search in four major literature databases yielded 779 papers, of which we selected 23 primary studies for a detailed analysis. The analysis shows that the main ICT technologies adopted are text and voice-based services targeting mobile phones. The analysis also shows that radios are still widely used in disseminating agriculture information to rural farmers, while computers are mainly used by researchers. Though the mobile-based services were aimed at improving access to accurate and timely agriculture information, the literature review indicates that the adoption of the services is constrained by poor technological infrastructure, inappropriate ICT policies, and low level of user skills, especially of farmers, in using the technologies.

This paper aims to improve the interlaminar fracture toughness of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites by implanting fine z-pins with the minimum damage on in-plane fibers. Z-pins with diameters as small as 0.1 mm and 0.2 mm were prepared by using carbon fiber tows with different mechanical properties. The effect of the mechanical property of carbon fiber pin on the interlaminar fracture toughness of composite laminate was investigated to reveal the enhancement mechanism. The results show that fine z-pins significantly improve the interlaminar fracture toughness and simultaneously are favorable for maintaining high retentions of in-plane mechanical properties of composite laminate. Compared with control sample, the propagation GIC values of CFRPs implanted with 0.2 mm and 0.1 mm CCF800 z-pins increase by 276 % and 541 % respectively at a low pin volume fraction of 0.16 vol. %. Both z-pin pull-out and z-pin fracture failure behaviors can be observed for these fine z-pin reinforced composites. The higher tensile properties of z-pins and better transverse shear resistance tend to result in the failure of z-pin pull-out. With the decrease of z-pin diameter, the probability of z-pin fracture failure becomes greater, and correspondingly stronger pinning effect and larger failure load are achieved.

Advances in the fields of networking, broadband communications and demand for high-fidelity low-latency last-mile communications have rendered as-efficient-as-possible relaying methods more necessary than ever. This paper investigates the possibility of the utilization of cellular-enabled drones as aerial base stations in next-generation cellular networks. Flying ad hoc networks (FANETs) acting as clusters of deployable relays for the on-demand extension of broadband connectivity constitute a promising scenario in the domain of next-generation high-availability communications. Matters of mobility, handover efficiency, energy availability, optimal positioning and node localization as well as respective multi-objective optimizations are discussed in detail, with their core ideas defining the structure of the work at hand. This paper examines improvements to the existing cellular network core to support novel use-cases and lower the operation costs of diverse ad hoc deployments.

The property of covariance, also referred to as equivariance, means that an image operator is well-behaved under image transformations, in the sense that the result of applying the image operator to a transformed input image gives essentially a similar result as applying the same image transformation to the output of applying the image operator to the original image. This paper presents a theory of geometric covariance properties in vision, developed for a generalized Gaussian derivative model of receptive fields in the primary visual cortex and the lateral geniculate nucleus, which, in turn, enable geometric invariance properties at higher levels in the visual hierarchy. It is shown how the studied generalized Gaussian derivative model for visual receptive fields obeys true covariance properties under spatial scaling transformations, spatial affine transformations, Galilean transformations and temporal scaling transformations. These covariance properties imply that a vision system, based on image and video measurements in terms of the receptive fields according to the generalized Gaussian derivative model, can, to first order of approximation, handle the image and video deformations between multiple views of objects delimited by smooth surfaces, as well as between multiple views of spatio-temporal events, under varying relative motions between the objects and events in the world and the observer. We conclude by describing implications of the presented theory for biological vision, regarding connections between the variabilities of the shapes of biological visual receptive fields and the variabilities of spatial and spatio-temporal image structures under natural image transformations. Specifically, we formulate experimentally testable biological hypotheses as well as needs for measuring population statistics of receptive field characteristics, originating from predictions from the presented theory, concerning the extent to which the shapes of the biological receptive fields in the primary visual cortex span the variabilities of spatial and spatio-temporal image structures induced by natural image transformations, based on geometric covariance properties. Background The COVID-19 pandemic has amplified the role of telehealth in health care delivery. Regional variation in internet access and telehealth use are well-documented, but the effect of neighborhood factors, including the pervasiveness of broadband internet, on older adults’ telehealth usage in the context of internet access is not known. Objective This study aimed to investigate how individual and neighborhood characteristics, including the pervasiveness of neighborhood broadband internet subscription, are associated with engagement in telehealth among older adults with internet access. Methods In this cross-sectional study, we included 5117 community-living older adults aged ≥65 years, who participated in the 2017 National Health and Aging Trends Study with census tract–level data for participants’ places of residence from the American Community Survey. Results Of an estimated 35.3 million community-living older adults, 21.1 million (59.7%) were internet users, and of this group, more than one-third (35.8%) engaged in telehealth. In a multivariable regression model adjusted for individual- and neighborhood-level factors, age, education, income, and the pervasiveness of neighborhood broadband internet subscription were associated with engagement in telehealth, while race, health, county metropolitan status, and neighborhood social deprivation were not. Among internet users, living in a neighborhood at the lowest (versus highest) tertile of broadband internet subscription was associated with being 40% less likely to engage in telehealth (adjusted odds ratio 0.61, 95% CI 0.42-0.87), all else equal. Conclusions Neighborhood broadband internet stands out as a mutable characteristic that is consequential to engagement in telehealth.

Using a lifecycle perspective, this paper analyzes the use of reserved seats and the evolution of cooptation norms and practices in Burundi between the signature of the Arusha Peace and Reconciliation Agreement in 2000 and the 2020 legislative elections. Value-driven objectives, such as minority protection, only partly explain their use and design. The adoption, functionality and recent transformation of electoral cooptation were also determined by realpolitik, most notably by the elites’ struggle for positions and the balance of power. Cooptation had important effects on ethnic cohabitation within parliamentary factions. The paper contributes to the literature on the micro-institutions of power-sharing.

In this study, we present new variants of the Hermite–Hadamard inequality via non-conformable fractional integrals. These inequalities are proven for convex functions and differentiable functions whose derivatives in absolute value are generally convex. Our main results are established using the classical Jensen–Mercer inequality and its variants for (h,m)-convex modified functions proven in this paper. In addition to showing that our results support previously known results from the literature, we provide examples of their application.

In this paper, a reaction-diffusion vegetation-water system with time-varying delay, impulse and L$ {\rm \acute{e}} $vy jump is proposed. The existence and uniqueness of the positive solution are proved. Meanwhile, mainly through the principle of comparison, we obtain the sufficient conditions for finite-time stability which reflect the effect of time delay, diffusion, impulse, and noise. Besides, considering the planting, irrigation and other measures, we introduce control variable into the vegetation-water system. In order to save the costs of strategies, the optimal control is analyzed by using the minimum principle. Finally, numerical simulations are shown to illustrate the effectiveness of our theoretical results.

Літій-іонні акумулятори застосовуються в різних сферах, наприклад, у споживчій електроніці, електромобілях, легкій енергетиці тощо. Energy storage solutions based on lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries are becoming more popular. These batteries are progressively used because of their competitive performance compared to other battery types. It is an improved battery technology, and the lithium ion is the main factor of its electrochemistry. Li-ion batteries can have a very high voltage and charge storage per unit mass and unit volume, also have several benefits in comparison to other high feature rechargeable battery technologies. There are various applications of Li-ion batteries such as consumer electronics, electric vehicle, and light power industry etc. Li-ion batteries for such type of systems are the main components, which should be safe and reliable throughout the operating lifespan of the systems. The increasing energy density of Li-ion cells (Wh/L) and at the same time the increasing amount of stored total energy in various solutions accentuate the efforts on battery safety and measures to maintain a maximum on safety and reliability. The reliability of Li-ion batteries is directly related to the life and safe operation of electric drive products. For the accurate assessment of the reliability of Li-ion batteries, it is important to build a reliability model considering the dependency among cells for the overall degradation of Li-ion battery packs. This paper presents a broad summary of the reliability assessment of Li-ion batteries under multiple failures. Different reliability measures such as reliability, availability and expected cost have been investigated with the help of Markov process and supplementary variable technique.

Leg-driven machines require complex control systems to ensure stability and safety. Instead of measuring the complete system state, state estimation and prediction can be used to observe the system state in hydraulically actuated systems to replace expensive sensors. In this paper, we consider the portal advancing mechanism, a legged locomotive mechanism. The overall machine consists of two bases with three hydraulically actuated legs each and a bridge on top of them. An upper carriage with a forestry crane can move along the bridge. A system is proposed that estimates the position of the carriage. The Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) handles the non-linearity of the system and provides information about the uncertainty of the state estimation. The load on the hydraulically actuated legs is different for every carriage position on top of the mechanism. We assume that the dynamic effects of the movement can be modeled with a linear model. The state is described by the position, velocity, and acceleration of the center of gravity of the machine’s upper carriage. The non-linear relation between the state vector and the pressures in the hydraulic actuators is linearized in the innovation step of the applied filter. The proposed system is evaluated in a multibody machine simulation with hydraulic co-simulation. The proposed system reduces the number of required sensors on this type of walking forestry machine as the movements do not need to be captured directly. The results show that modern state estimation and prediction can support predictive control of complex, dynamic hydraulically driven systems.

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is known for its potential to progress to the lymph nodes and distant metastases at an early stage. As an important regulator in tumorigenesis biological processes, the functions of lncRNA in NPC tumor development remain largely unclear. In this research, the expression of EPB41L4A-AS2 in NPC tissues and cells was analyzed via real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). CCK8, colony formation, and EDU experiments were used to determine the viability of NPC cells. Transwell and wound healing assays were performed to test NPC cell migration and invasion. RNA pull-down and mass spectrometry analysis were used to identify potential binding proteins. Then, a popliteal lymph node metastasis model was established to test NPC metastasis. EPB41L4A-AS2 is repressed by transforming growth factor-beta, which is downregulated in NPC cells and tissue. It is associated with the presence of distant metastasis and adverse outcomes. The univariate and multivariate survival assays confirmed that EPB41L4A-AS2 expression was an independent predictor of progression-free survival (PFS) in patients with NPC. Biological analyses showed that overexpression of EPB41L4A-AS2 reduced the metastasis and invasion of NPC in vitro and in vivo, but had no significant effect on cell proliferation. Mechanistically, in the nucleus we identified that EPB41L4A-AS2 relies on binding to YBX1 to reduce the stability of Snail mRNA to enhance the expression of E-cadherin and reverse the progression of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT). In the cytoplasm, we found that EPB41L4A-AS2 blocked the invasion and migration of NPC cells by promoting LATS2 expression via sponging miR-107. In a whole, the findings of this study help to further understand the metastasis mechanism of NPC and could help in the prevention and treatment of NPC metastasis.

Italy was one of the first western countries to embrace the first wave of COVID-19 and undergo detrimental outcomes in older adults in different clinical settings, especially in those with comorbidity and frailty. In addition, older nursing home (NH) residents had significantly higher mortality rates most likely due to the increased susceptibility of infection due to combined physical vulnerability and risks linked to the NH living environment itself. Different reports throughout Italy have rapidly highlighted selected outcomes related to COVID-19 in older patients being treated in acute and long-term care (LTC) settings. However, the majority of these studies are single center studies. Thus, it remains fundamental to collect large data from prospective based-population studies in order to identify preventive and therapeutic COVID-19 risk/protective factors correlated with COVID-19 health status outcomes. In this commentary paper, we will discuss different Italian reports according to clinical settings and highlight the importance of GeroCovid Observational and GeroCovid Vax, two large population based prospective studies in Italy.

Given a filling primitive geodesic loop in a closed hyperbolic surface one obtains a hyperbolic three-manifold as the complement of the loop's canonical lift to the projective tangent bundle. In this paper we give the first known lower bound for the volume of these manifolds in terms of the length of generic loops. In this paper, we construct a decentralized clearing mechanism which endogenously and automatically provides a claims resolution procedure. This mechanism can be used to clear a network of obligations through blockchain. In particular, we investigate default contagion in a network of smart contracts cleared through blockchain. In so doing, we provide an algorithm which constructs the blockchain so as to guarantee the payments can be verified and the miners earn a fee. We, additionally, consider the special case in which the blocks have unbounded capacity to provide a simple equilibrium clearing condition for the terminal net worths; existence and uniqueness are proven for this system. Finally, we consider the optimal bidding strategies for each firm in the network so that all firms are utility maximizers with respect to their terminal wealths. We first look for a mixed Nash equilibrium bidding strategies, and then also consider Pareto optimal bidding strategies. This Ph.D. thesis is a collection of three publishable papers with a significant contribution to auction theory and its corporate finance applications. Each chapter of this thesis addresses each paper separately, apart from Chapter 1. In Chapter 1, we introduce and explain some essential auction-theoretic toolkits for the following chapters' analysis and discuss some seminal papers we used as a grounding base of our research. Chapter 2 investigates how uniform-price auctions can be used for the pricing of corporate bonds. In order to have a realistic approach, we incorporate the investment mandates and the budget limits on the bidding strategies under the presence of a secondary market. To our knowledge, we are the first to address all these factors in one model and result in some interesting results presented both in section 2.4 and Chapter 5. The next chapters examine the auction designs of portfolio trading. In Chapter 3 we propose a two-stage auction design for the pricing of blind portfolios - a basket of unknown securities auctioned at a pre-determined execution price. The mechanism allows information release at the interim and this feature not only can reduce the asset managers' liquidation costs but also eliminate brokers' "winners' curse". In Chapter 4 we design a two-stage auction for a divisible portfolio auctioned either as parts or as a whole. Again the two-round setup admits an information release at the interim, which may offset the "winner's curse". Our main novelty is a new pricing rule for a core-selecting auction that extends the current Nearest-VCG in a dynamic two-round setup and can mitigate free-riding incentives. The last chapter summarizes the results from previous chapters and concludes.

Sentiment Analysis understands emotions with the help of software, and it is playing an inevitable role in today’s workplaces. Sentiment analysis for opinion mining has become an emerging area where more research and innovations are done. Sentiment or opinion analysis based on a domain is done using several algorithms. Machine learning is a concept among this area. In this, the main focus is on the supervised sentiment analysis or opinion mining algorithms. Supervised learning is a division coming under machine learning. Different methods of supervised learning and sentiment analysis algorithms are considered and their mode of functioning is studied. Main focus of this paper is on the recent trends of research and studies for sentiment classification, taking into consideration the accuracy of different algorithmic techniques that can be implemented for accurate prediction in sentiment Analysis.

Capacity Building in promoting Geo-information science and technology (GIST) has its significance in ensuring good governance and resources management at local, regional and global scales. To emphasize this strongly in young generation, the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) has been engaged for more than 18 years by having an exclusive Technical Commission on Education and Outreach elements. Every 4 years, this Commission has been addressing different aspects of GIST by setting up theme specific Working Groups (WGs).ISPRS Technical Commission V (TC-V) on Education and Outreach (2016–2022) has constituted eight theme WGs with international experts to promote as well as explore new methods of capacity development relevant to GIST. These WGs have made significant contributions by engaging actively workshops and new scientific initiatives in past five years. ISPRS Student Consortium (SC) is part of the Commission, and promotes the profession to the youth. The Consortium serves as a platform of communication and information exchange among members, enabling professional networking and fostering collaborations.We are happy to note that for ISPRS Congress 2021, there were 18 submissions of research papers on Education and Outreach. Of these, 7 were accepted for Archives and 3 for Annals. In these, 3 papers were submitted and accepted under the Youth Forum track. All these papers were reviewed by selected experts. The Youth Forum papers include the use of Google Earth Engine for agricultural drought, InSAR data for deriving digital elevation model and free and open-source platforms for image processing and the potential of radar remote sensing in image classification and topographic mapping. several disciplines covering expanded Body of Knowledge for geoinformatics, software design tool for remote sensing image processing, design of a terrestrial laser scanner simulator as an educational tool, the use of UAV based photogrammetry suite for providing location based services to highly vulnerable communities, machine learning based tools in WebGIS, and survey based gender inequality in academic career in GIST.Besides these technical papers, there was one paper entitled “55 years in ISPRS: The Ambassador of our Profession” highlighting the illustrious journey and pioneering contributions of Dr. Gottfried Konecny in the field of GIST. Dr. Gottfried is also presently serving as Co-Chair of TCV WG on Innovative technologies in training civil engineers and architects. Another paper by Student Consortium members describes how public-private cooperation models would mutually benefit the two communities in accessing and exploiting geospatial data for societal and business applications.We sincerely thank all the reviewers and acknowledge strong efforts made by Area Chairs to ensure quality of all accepted papers. We greatly appreciate the perseverance and dedication of the Scientific and Organizing Committee. Travelling Salesman Problem (TSP) is the problem for finding the shortest route starting from start node then visiting number of nodes exactly once and finally go back to start node. Several heuristics are popular for solving TSP, for example Savings Algorithm and Nearest Neighbour. Performance heuristics on solving TSP are diverse, so there is need of reference for choosing a heuristic. Comparing heuristics on solving instance can be a reference for choosing a heuristic. This paper will discuss about comparison Savings Algorithm and Nearest Neighbour on Solving Russian TSP Instances. For generating length of route, Savings Algorithm is better than Nearest Neighbour, while for generating CPU time, Nearest Neighbour is better than Savings Algorithm. In 2019, the National Archives of Korea (NAK) developed a blockchain recordkeeping platform to conduct R&amp, D on recordkeeping approaches. This paper introduces two types of R&amp, D studies that have been conducted thus far. The first is the use of blockchain transaction audit trail technology to ensure the authenticity of audiovisual archives, i.e., the application of blockchain to a new system. The second uses blockchain technology to verify whether the datasets of numerous information systems built by government agencies are managed without forgery or tampering, i.e., the application of blockchain to an existing system. Government work environments globally are rapidly shifting from paper records to digital. However, the traditional recordkeeping methodology has not adequately kept up with these digital changes. Despite the importance of responding to digital changes by incorporating innovative technologies such as blockchain in recordkeeping practices, it is not easy for most archives to invest funds in experiments on future technologies. Owing to the Korean government’s policy of investing in digital transformation, NAK’s blockchain recordkeeping platform has been developed, and several R&amp, D tasks are underway. Hopefully, the findings of this study will be shared with archivists around the world who are focusing on the future of recordkeeping.

This paper is a transcript of a keynote delivered at the 2021 SOU Creativity Conference. The paper addresses two topics. First, a discussion of the current state of creativity research is given. Of particular note is the conclusion that, despite seven decades of growing research, creativity has, in some respects, failed to make a significant impact on application areas such as education. Second, the paper then examines three historical case studies of creativity by women. The paper concludes by suggesting that the human capacity for creativity – the generation of effective and novel solutions to problems stemming from change – has been a defining strength of our species since the emergence of anatomically modern humans. Although multidrug combinations are an effective therapeutic strategy for serious disease in clinical practice, their therapeutic effect may be reduced because they conflict with each other medicinally in certain cases. Hence, there is an urgent need to develop a single drug carrier for precise multidrug delivery to avoid this interference. A reverse coordination method is reported that fabricates a double‐layer barium sulphate microcapsule (DL@BS MS) for two drugs separately loading simultaneously. In addition, BS nanoclusters were synthesised in situ inside the DL@BS MSs for real‐time computed tomography (CT) imaging. The results showed that the DL@BS MSs with a particle size of approximately 2 mm exhibited a uniform sphere. Because BS nanoclusters have a high X‐ray attenuation coefficient, the retention of DL@BS MSs in the digestive tract could be monitored through CT imaging in real time. More important, the core‐shell structure of DL@BS MSs encapsulating two different drugs could be released in spatiotemporal order in an acidic stomach environment. The as‐synthesis DL@BS MSs with a core‐shell structure and real‐time imaging performance provide an ideal carrier for the oral administration of multiple drugs simultaneously loaded but sequentially released.

An ultra-high gain DC-DC converter with single-switch structure is introduced in this paper. Full soft-witching is provided by simultaneous use of quasi-resonant performance of one resonant tank and leakage inductance of a three-winding coupled inductor (CI). Adopting the secondary and tertiary windings of the CI in separated voltage multiplier cells enables the converter to provide ultra-high voltage gain. The reverse recovery problem is resolved thanks to the quasi zero current switching performance of nearly all diodes, especially output diode because of the second resonant tank, so the total electromagnetic interference is significantly reduced. Continuous input current with low ripple expands the application of the proposed converter, especially in renewable energy applications. Steady-state performance and design considerations of the introduced converter are analyzed thoroughly and compared with recently introduced converters to establish its merits. Experimental results of a 200 W prototype are given to validate its analysis and performance. publishedVersion

Compute-in-memory (CiM) is a promising approach to improving the computing speed and energy efficiency in dataintensive applications. Beyond existing CiM techniques of bitwise logic-in-memory operations and dot product operations, this paper extends the CiM paradigm with FAST, a new shift-based inmemory computation technique to handle high-concurrency operations on multiple rows in an SRAM. Such high-concurrency operations are widely seen in both conventional applications (e.g. the table update in a database), and emerging applications (e.g. the parallel weight update in neural network accelerators), in which low latency and low energy consumption are critical. The proposed shift-based CiM architecture is enabled by integrating the shifter function into each SRAM cell, and by creating a datapath that exploits the high-parallelism of shifting operations in multiple rows in the array. A 128-row 16-column shiftable SRAM in 65nm CMOS is designed to evaluate the proposed architecture. The manoeuvring performance of a ship in shallow water is substantially different from its performance in deep water, attributed to shallow water effects caused by the presence of a finite water depth. Without a doubt a ship will navigate in areas of shallow water at various times during its operational life (such as when approaching harbours or ports), which underscores the importance of understanding the shallow water effects on ship manoeuvrability. In the present paper, the manoeuvrability of the KRISO Container Ship (KCS) model in different shallow water conditions was comprehensively analysed by means of the unsteady Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (URANS) computations coupled with the equations of rigid body motion with full six degrees of freedom (6DOF). A dynamic overset grid approach was implemented to allow the ship hull to move in 6DOF in a computational domain and to enable the rudder to be deflected according to a rudder controller for free-running manoeuvres. A series of manoeuvring simulations were performed in shallow waters with water depth to draft ratios varying between 1.2 and 4.0, and partially validated with the available experimental data from a free running test. The numerical results revealed that the ship advance, transfer, and tactical diameter mainly increased with the decrease in the ratio of water depth to draft, closely associated with the complicated interactions between the hull wake, boundary layer, propeller, vortex, and sea floor.

This systematic review and meta-analysis sought to evaluate the acceptability levels for COVID vaccine(s) in various states in India. Published articles in PubMed/Scopus/Cochrane/DOAJ/the Web of Science that focused on assessing COVID-19 vaccine hesitation/vaccine acceptance using a survey/questionnaire were included. After extensive research, 524 records were found, and after screening on the basis of eligibility criteria, only 23 papers were added to this review. Increased vaccine assumption percentage (>70%) among the population was found in two surveys nationwide (92.8%) and in Delhi (79.5%). For pooled estimates of COVID-19 vaccine acceptance and heterogeneity, twenty-three studies (23) consisting of 39,567 individuals reported for acceptance of COVID 19 vaccine in India.. Out of these, 26,028 individuals accepted the COVID-19 vaccine, giving a pooled estimate of 62.6% (95% CI: 55.6–69.4) with considerable heterogeneity (χ2 = 3397.3, p < 0.0001; I2 = 99.40%). The results of this study give a brief insight into the percentage acceptance and hesitancy among the Indian population regarding COVID-19 vaccine immunisation. Future research and vaccine education initiatives can be steered by the findings of this work as a starting point.

Intelligent traffic management is an important issue for smart cities. City councils try to implement the newest techniques and performant technologies in order to avoid traffic congestion, to optimize the use of traffic lights, to efficiently use car parking, etc. To find the best solution to this problem, Birmingham City Council decided to allow open-source predictive traffic forecasting by making the real-time datasets available. This paper proposes a multi-agent system (MAS) approach for intelligent urban traffic management in Birmingham using forecasting and classification techniques. The designed agents have the following tasks: forecast the occupancy rates for traffic flow, road junctions and car parking; classify the faults; control and monitor the entire process. The experimental results show that k-nearest neighbor forecasts with high accuracy rates for the traffic data and decision trees build the most accurate model for classifying the faults for their detection and repair in the shortest possible time. The whole learning process is coordinated by a monitoring agent in order to automate Birmingham city’s traffic management.

Evacuation is often the only way to save a person who is in a life-threatening situation. At present, evacuation software is used to simulate the movement of human flows, which does not always reflect the real processes of their movement. Therefore, it is a relevant task to build models for modeling the movement of human flows for different types of emergencies, different categories of human movement, and various spatial forms of their representation. Such a task arises when evacuating people from premises for various functional purposes. During evacuation, people often carry some goods. When people move carrying some goods, their horizontal projection takes a more complex shape than an ellipse or circle considered in earlier studies. Moreover, in practice, there is often a task to model the movement of people taking into consideration the maximum permissible distances between them. This paper reports the new quasi-phi functions of interaction between the ellipse and rectangle accounting for the maximum allowable distances between them. The proposed mathematical apparatus has made it possible to formalize the interaction between objects, thereby enabling the construction of a well-substantiated mathematical model, as well as the methods and algorithms for modeling the movement of people carrying some goods. The possibility to simulate the movement of people with certain objects has shown taking into consideration the maximum permissible distances between them. A test example of the movement of people along four corridors was simulated, in each of which there were 28people subsequently merging into one flow. Given the uniform distribution of three types of cargo: «backpacks», «suitcases», and «bags on wheels», the movement slowed down by about 4%. When half of the evacuees had «bags on wheels» that can move away from people at arm’s length, the slowdown was about 6%.

Forest recreation not only enables directly creates impacts on the entire tourism industry but also indirectly creates effects on other industries composed in an economic system via inter-industrial interdependence, such as backward and forward linkages or interactions. However, due to the lack of data available, few studies have been made exclusively for evaluating the impacts of forest recreation on the economy in a national dimension. Therefore, this paper attempts to analyze the economic impacts of the forest recreation industry. Using an input–output modeling approach, the industrial linkage and a cluster of economic multipliers are estimated based on new input–output tables for 2012, 2017, and 2018 that includes the forest recreation industry. The results indicate that, first, both the forward and backward linkages caused by forest recreation show rising trends over the analysis periods and the backward linkages are stronger than forward linkages. Second, the economic contribution of forest recreation has been strengthened, although the multipliers have shown a downward trend. The total output impact in 2018 is calculated to be $838.187 billion, with a total added impact of $352.713 billion. Furthermore, forest recreation could create over 18 million jobs with an average annual growth rate of 15.73%, which are mainly in the catering, accommodation, and retail industries with low skill requirements. Finally, policy applications are proposed to provide reliable and useful information for future planning and investment decision associated with the forestry and ecotourism industry.
