In order to effectively utilize the large amount of high-dimensionality historical data generated by energy meters during operation, this paper proposes a DBN-MLP fusion neural network method for multi-dimensional analysis and fault-type diagnosis of smart energy meter fault data. In this paper, we first use DBN to strengthen the feature extraction ability of the network and solve the problem of many kinds of feature data and high dimensionality of historical data. After that, the processed feature information is input into the MLP neural network, and the strong processing ability of MLP for nonlinear numbers is used to solve the problem of weak correlation among data in the historical data set and improve the accuracy rate of faults diagnosis. The final results show that the DBN-MLP method used in this paper can effectively reduce the number of training iterations to reduce the training time and improve the accuracy of diagnosis. Recent technological developments have enabled computers to identify and categorize facial expressions to determine a person's emotional state in an image or a video. This process, called "Facial Expression Recognition (FER)", has become one of the most popular research areas in computer vision. In recent times, deep FER systems have primarily concentrated on addressing two significant challenges: the problem of overfitting due to limited training data availability, and the presence of expression-unrelated variations, including illumination, head pose, image resolution, and identity bias. In this paper, a comprehensive survey is provided on deep FER, encompassing algorithms and datasets that offer insights into these intrinsic problems. Initially, this paper presents a detailed timeline showcasing the evolution of methods and datasets in deep facial expression recognition (FER). This timeline illustrates the progression and development of the techniques and data resources used in FER. Then, a comprehensive review of FER methods is introduced, including the basic principles of FER (components such as preprocessing, feature extraction and classification, and methods, etc.) from the pro-deep learning era (traditional methods using handcrafted features, i.e., SVM and HOG, etc.) to the deep learning era. Moreover, a brief introduction is provided related to the benchmark datasets (there are two categories: controlled environments (lab) and uncontrolled environments (in the wild)) used to evaluate different FER methods and a comparison of different FER models. Existing deep neural networks and related training strategies designed for FER, based on static images and dynamic image sequences, are discussed. Detecting pipeline leaks is an essential factor in maintaining the integrity of fluid transport systems. This paper introduces an advanced deep learning framework that uses continuous wavelet transform (CWT) images for precise detection of such leaks. Transforming acoustic signals from pipelines under various conditions into CWT scalograms, followed by signal processing by non-local means and adaptive histogram equalization, results in new enhanced leak-induced scalograms (ELIS) that capture detailed energy fluctuations across time-frequency scales. The fundamental approach takes advantage of a deep belief network (DBN) fine-tuned with a genetic algorithm (GA) and unified with a least squares support vector machine (LSSVM) to improve feature extraction and classification accuracy. The DBN-GA framework precisely extracts informative features, while the LSSVM classifier precisely distinguishes between leaky and non-leak conditions. By concentrating solely on the advanced capabilities of ELIS processed through an optimized DBN-GA-LSSVM model, this research achieves high detection accuracy and reliability, making a significant contribution to pipeline monitoring and maintenance. Universal circuit breakers are crucial devices in power systems, and the accuracy of their fault diagnosis is vital. However, existing diagnostic models suffer from low feature extraction rates and low diagnostic accuracy. In this paper, we propose a novel approach for fault diagnosis of universal circuit breakers based on analyzing vibration signals generated during the closing operation. Firstly, the vibration signal was decomposed into multiple modal components using Variable Mode Decomposition (VMD), and the modal components were subjected to time and frequency domain feature extraction. Then, the extracted features were fused and normalized to construct a training dataset for the proposed model. We propose a Deep Belief Network (DBN) diagnostic model based on the Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA), where the WOA is employed to optimize the hyperparameters of the DBN. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed VMD and WOA-DBN model achieved an average accuracy of 96.63%. This method enhanced the accuracy of feature extraction from vibration signals and outperformed traditional diagnostic models when using a single vibration signal for fault diagnosis of universal circuit breakers. In this paper, a gait classification method based on the deep belief network (DBN) optimized by the sparrow search algorithm (SSA) is proposed. The multiple features obtained based on surface electromyography (sEMG) are fused. These functions are used to train the model. First, the sample features, such as the time domain and frequency domain features of the denoised sEMG are extracted and then the fused features are obtained by feature combination. Second, the SSA is utilized to optimize the architecture of DBN and its weight parameters. Finally, the optimized DBN classifier is trained and used for gait recognition. The classification results are obtained by varying different factors and the recognition rate is compared with the previous classification algorithms. The results show that the recognition rate of SSA-DBN is higher than other classifiers, and the recognition accuracy is improved by about 2% compared with the unoptimized DBN. As network technology evolves, cyberattacks are not only increasing in frequency but also becoming more sophisticated. To proactively detect and prevent these cyberattacks, researchers are developing intrusion detection systems (IDSs) leveraging machine learning and deep learning techniques. However, a significant challenge with these advanced models is the increased training time as model complexity grows, and the symmetry between performance and training time must be taken into account. To address this issue, this study proposes a fast-persistent-contrastive-divergence-based deep belief network (FPCD-DBN) that offers both high accuracy and rapid training times. This model combines the efficiency of contrastive divergence with the powerful feature extraction capabilities of deep belief networks. While traditional deep belief networks use a contrastive divergence (CD) algorithm, the FPCD algorithm improves the performance of the model by passing the results of each detection layer to the next layer. In addition, the mix of parameter updates using fast weights and continuous chains makes the model fast and accurate. The performance of the proposed FPCD-DBN model was evaluated on several benchmark datasets, including NSL-KDD, UNSW-NB15, and CIC-IDS-2017. As a result, the proposed method proved to be a viable solution as the model performed well with an accuracy of 89.4% and an F1 score of 89.7%. To improve the accuracy of shallow neural networks in processing complex signals and cable fault diagnosis, and to overcome the shortage of manual dependency and cable fault feature extraction, a deep learning method is introduced, and a time−frequency domain joint impedance spectrum is proposed for cable fault identification and localization based on a deep belief network (DBN). Firstly, based on the distribution parameter model of power cables, we model and analyze the cables under normal operation and different fault types, and we obtain the headend input impedance spectrum and the headend input time−frequency domain impedance spectrum of cables under various operating conditions. The headend input impedance amplitude and phase of normal operation and different fault cables are extracted as the original input samples of the cable fault type identification model; the real part of the headend input time–frequency domain impedance of the fault cables is extracted as the original input samples of the cable fault location model. Then, the unsupervised pre−training and supervised inverse fine−tuning methods are used for automatically learning, training, and extracting the cable fault state features from the original input samples, and the DBN−based cable fault type recognition model and location model are constructed and used to realize the type recognition and location of cable faults. Finally, the proposed method is validated by simulation, and the results show that the method has good fault feature extraction capability and high fault type recognition and localization accuracy. In recent decades, tool wear monitoring has played a crucial role in the improvement of industrial production quality and efficiency. In the machining process, it is important to predict both tool cost and life, and to reduce the equipment downtime. The conventional methods need enormous quantities of human resources and expert skills to achieve precise tool wear information. To automatically identify the tool wear types, deep learning models are extensively used in the existing studies. In this manuscript, a new model is proposed for the effective classification of both serviceable and worn cutting edges. Initially, a dataset is chosen for experimental analysis that includes 254 images of edge profile cutting heads; then, circular Hough transform, canny edge detector, and standard Hough transform are used to segment 577 cutting edge images, where 276 images are disposable and 301 are functional. Furthermore, feature extraction is carried out on the segmented images utilizing Local Binary Pattern (LBPs) and Speeded up Robust Features (SURF), Harris Corner Detection (HCD), Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG), and Grey-Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM) feature descriptors for extracting the texture feature vectors. Next, the dimension of the extracted features is reduced by an Improved Dragonfly Optimization Algorithm (IDOA) that lowers the computational complexity and running time of the Deep Belief Network (DBN), while classifying the serviceable and worn cutting edges. The experimental evaluations showed that the IDOA-DBN model attained 98.83% accuracy on the patch configuration of full edge division, which is superior to the existing deep learning models. Rapid and accurate fault diagnosis of smart meters can greatly improve the operational and maintenance ability of power systems. Focusing on the historical fault data information of smart meters, a fault diagnosis model of smart meters based on an improved capsule network (CapsNet) is proposed. First, we count the sample size of each fault type, and a mixed sampling method combining undersampling and oversampling is used to solve the problem of distribution imbalance of sample size. The one-hot encoding method is adopted to solve the problem of the fault samples containing more discrete and disordered data. Then, the strong adaptive feature extraction capability and nonlinear mapping capability of the deep belief network (DBN) are utilized to improve the single convolution layer feature extraction part of a traditional capsule network; DBN can also address the problem of high data dimensions and sparse data due to one-hot encoding. The important features and key information of the input sample are extracted and used as the input of the primary capsule layer, and the dynamic routing algorithm is used to construct the digital capsule.
