A collision-free path planning method is proposed based on learning from demonstration (LfD) to address the challenges of cumbersome manual teaching operations caused by complex action of yarn storage, variable mechanism positions, and limited workspace in preform weaving. First, by utilizing extreme learning machines (ELM) to autonomously learn the teaching data of yarn storage, the mapping relationship between the starting and ending points and the teaching path points is constructed to obtain the imitation path with similar storage actions under the starting and ending points of the new task. Second, an improved rapidly expanding random trees (IRRT) method with adaptive direction and step size is proposed to expand path points with high quality. Finally, taking the spatical guidance point of imitation path as the target direction of IRRT, the expansion direction is biased toward the imitation path to obtain a collision-free path that meets the action yarn storage. The results of different yarn storage examples show that the ELM-IRRT method can plan the yarn storage path within 2s–5s when the position of the mechanism changes in narrow spaces, avoiding tedious manual operations that program the robot movements, which is feasible and effective. In motorcycle dynamics, great importance is attributed to the study of the weave and wobble vibration modes and, in particular, to the effects of the flexibility of structural components on their stability. Therefore, appropriate motorcycle models for studying weave and wobble should include flexible elements for describing the flexural behavior of components such as the main frame, front assembly, and rear swingarm. Different approaches are possible for modeling flexibilities: the most common among them are the lumped stiffness and the flexible multibody approaches. While the latter certainly provides higher accuracy, the former has advantages in terms of computational load, but, above all, it makes it easier to understand in the design phase how technical parameters, such as torsional and bending stiffness of a given structural component, can influence the stability of weave and wobble. The accuracy of lumped stiffness models strongly depends on parameter identification. In this study, a general method is proposed to determine appropriate lumped stiffness parameters for any given motorcycle component. The proposed method is tested and validated by comparing the weave and wobble modal behavior with the results of flexible multibody analysis. The lumped stiffness model is then adopted to carry out a sensitivity analysis aimed at identifying the effects on the weave and wobble stability of the torsional and bending stiffness of specific structural components of the motorcycle to optimize their design. Fe3Al combines with steel to form bimetallic metal can benefit from steel's mechanical strength and make full use of Fe3Al's excellent performance under high temperatures. However, due to the poor fluidity and wettability of liquid Fe3Al to steel, the cladding prepared by traditional linear welding is not available to industrial sector. Hence, to optimize preparation, an arc deposition procedure based on a weaving path is proposed. Fe3Al cladding was prepared on the steel with weaving and linear paths by arc deposition technology, respectively, and the characteristics of the cladding were compared in terms of formability, surface feature and microstructure. The results demonstrated that the cladding prepared by weave arc deposition had better formability, lower dilution rates and fewer defects than that by the line one. Compared with the image captured by high-speed camera, the substantial difference was attributed to the higher molten pool velocities, which led to a smaller volume of molten pool in weave process. Under this circumstance, the arc force was conducive to the spread of liquid metal, forming a relatively small contact angle (< 45°). The finite element analysis revealed that the temperature distribution and thermal cycles resulted in finer grains in the weave process; furthermore, the weave process produced less residual stress, causing an increment of 153% in bonding strength between the cladding and the steel, compared to linear sample. Overall, the weave arc deposition technology is capable of molding Fe3Al layers efficiently and offers a good prospect for applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aims to reconsider the domestic and industrial productions under the framework of experimental archaeology practices based on the finds which found during the archaeological excavations at Metropolis. In this context, olive oil and textile products known to have been produced for domestic/ domestic use in Metropolis, and glassware for industrial aims were tried to be reproduced in line with ancient methods and techniques. The experimental archaeology practices were not only theoretical but also experienced through an interactive workshop involving archaeology students between the ages of 20 and 25 who had no experience in the field. After the instruction and information given to the students about the experimental practices, the implementation stages were followed. At the end of the practices, it was aimed to understand better the living conditions of the people living in Metropolis in Antiquity, their daily occupations and the emergence stages of the materials they produced with the experiences gained by the students.

The behavior of three raw cotton fabrics of different basic weaves and approximate yarn settings and yarn counts, when subjected to tensile deformation, is described in this article. The values of the breaking force in the fabric in the linen weave have the highest mean numerical value, while the cotton fabric in the atlas weave has the lowest values. The fabric in the twill weave has the highest values for elongation at break, while the lowest values are present in the fabric in the atlas weave. The fabric in linen weave is the most resistant to external deformations, while the fabric in twill and atlas weaves are the weakest. The standard deviation and coefficient of variation for fabrics in all weaves have values that move within a range that confirms the validity of the results. In some cases, larger variations of these statistical data mean that these results can be taken with a certain amount of caution. It seems that there are a lot of latent stresses in the fabric, which are relaxed during the action of the tearing force, causing greater variations in the measurement results. Deformation curves after nonlinear fitting of the breaking force-elongation at break dependence are described by polynomial equations of the fourth and fifth degree, with the fact that about 99% of the variability of the dependent variable can be explained by means of the analyzed independent variables. Polynomial models are practically usable because they can predict with high reliability the deformation behavior of fabrics with similar weaves in the direction of the warp. There are statistically significant correlations between numerous values for breaking force from the experiment and the polynomial model.

The proposed study aims to discuss the methodology for measuring and evaluating controlled moisture distribution in woven fabric surfaces in the first part and the construction of woven fabric using hydrophobic and hydrophilic cotton yarns in the second part. Moisture distribution can be controlled in terms of the anisotropic (horizontal and vertical) and isotropic characteristics of the wetting of the cotton woven fabrics based on the combination of hydrophobic and hydrophilic threads. A set of experimental samples using hydrophobic and hydrophilic threads in warp and weft was produced to monitor the moisture (water) distribution in woven fabric surfaces. For evaluating the controlled distribution of moisture (water) in these atypical woven fabric constructions, an algorithm (methodology) was proposed, where the object (liquid) was separated from the background (fabrics) and various objects and geometric characteristics depending on time were evaluated on the object. The algorithm itself consisted of several steps and was executed in a loop for the current frame at a given time.

The Xinjiang region, with its unique location and climate, exhibits well-preserved relics of great academic interest. This paper focuses on the microinvasive analysis of textile samples obtained from an ancient turquoise mining site in the Heishanling region of Xinjiang, active between 820 and 400 BC. Various analytical techniques, including optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy with attenuated total reflection, and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, were employed to investigate these textiles. The results revealed that the textiles were composed of wool and dyed using indigo and purpurin. The bluegrass and madder-derived dyes were likely sourced locally or imported from wetter regions such as the Chinese Central Plains. The infrared deconvolution spectra and the results demonstrated that red and blue dyes considerably influenced the movement of wool fiber chains, leading to a more rapid decay of dyed fibers compared to those that were undyed. In addition, the medium dyeing process and Ke techniques were employed to create unique color shades and special patterns. This scientific and technological analysis of the textiles provides essential data for elucidating the materials available to ancient laborers. The comprehension of capillarity phenomenon is important in chemical, printing, and textile dyeing. The current paper provides an insight into the diffusion of direct dyes into cellulosic materials with regard to the change of fabric characteristics, dye structure, and bath composition. First, an experimental device was developed and series of experiments were carried out using cotton as textile fabric model and direct dyes (Direct Orange 39, Direct Red 79, and Direct Red 80) as wicking liquids. Data were analyzed based on the evolution of diffusion rate [D (cm2/s)] versus C/C0. Results exhibited that the capillary ascension of dyes depends on weft count, weave structure, yarn type, angle contact, wet agent, dye structure, and dye concentration. The D (cm2/s) values were much higher than for twisted yarn. The tortuosity lowered the diffusion of the dye along with fabrics. The rate of water transport increased with weft count and it became more important when the structure of fabric is more tightened. Both inter-yarn space and vertical position of the fabric limited the ascension of the liquid. In brief, along this study, we demonstrated that the proposed apparatus could provide a potential evaluation of wicking phenomenon along with textile materials.

Saree is one of the most popular ethnic Indian garments that enjoy the exclusivity of being reincarnated. It is an integral part of Indian cultural heritage. In the last few years there has been a grand revival of the saree as a popular cultural wear across the nation. Globalization and social media have been highly influential in this resurrection of interest in traditional wear. It all started when two Bengaluru-based friends Anju Maudgal Kadam and Ally Matthan, agreed to wear their sarees 100 times before the end of 2015 and, through social media, encouraged others to do the same. They intended to bring the traditional Indian saree back into their lives, and in the process of reviving the ethnicity they also became storytellers, recounting the histories and narratives woven into each of their sarees. Thereafter the #100sareepact became an Internet sensation, attracting media attention across the world. This paper would like to trace the journey of the Indian saree and also analyze how the saree-pact has forged virtual friendships among women in the Zuckerbergian cyberspace. Background: Interposition graft rotator cuff repair is one option for the treatment of massive, otherwise irreparable rotator cuff tears. It is undetermined how different suturing techniques influence morphology at the patch‐tendon interface in interposition rotator cuff repairs, particularly with respect to increased cross‐sectional area at the repair site post‐exposure to cyclic loading, which may influence healing. We aimed to analyze how the morphology of the grafts used in polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) interposition rotator cuff repairs differed according to whether the graft was secured using the multiple mattress technique or the weave technique respectively. Methods: Twelve PTFE interposition rotator cuff repairs (two groups, n = 6) were cyclically loaded. The thickness, width, cross‐sectional area at the individual patches and at the repair site, and patch elongation were compared between repairs using the 'multiple mattress' technique and repairs that used the 'weave' technique. Results: At all loads, repair site cross‐sectional area and thickness was greater in the weave group than in the multiple mattress group (P<0.05), despite repair site width being greater in the multiple mattress group (P<0.05). No significant differences in elongation were found between the multiple mattress and weave groups. Conclusion: Greater repair site cross‐sectional area under cyclic loading was observed in polytetrafluoroethylene interposition rotator repairs that used the weave technique than in those that used the multiple mattress technique. Increased repair site cross‐sectional area in the weave group occurred due to increased thickness and decreased width relative to the multiple mattress group. The development of textiles with the ability to shield an electromagnetic field is still of great interest, and the influences of the construction parameters of woven fabric (weave, input fibrous material composition, three-dimensional (3D) construction) on the resulting electromagnetic shielding efficiency have still not been sufficiently investigated. The main goal of this study is therefore to analyze the weaves of special electrically conductive woven fabrics and evaluate their impact on electromagnetic shielding effectiveness (SE) using statistical methods. Here, the interlacing structure cells of woven fabric are newly used to describe the weave. The results confirmed that the proposed theory of the interlacing of woven fabric is satisfactory for evaluating and, especially, for prediction of the SE of electromagnetic shielding woven fabrics. For this study, the input yarn (made from a mixture of traditional and extremely thin discrete stainless steel fibers) is used for the production of 21 types of dobby woven fabrics with different weaves and its SE was analyzed using the coaxial transmission-line technique. Background: An effective suture method enables early active motion exercises and optimal post-surgical outcomes. The aim of this study is to evaluate the tensile strength of three suture configurations – horizontal mattress (HM), vertical mattress (VM) and a cross suture for repair of a tendon weave. We hypothesised that the direction of mattress sutures relative to the tendon fibres would affect the tensile strength of tendon repair. Methods: Using porcine flexor tendons and the same number of surgical sutures, three tendon weave constructs differing in the method of suture were compared: HM suture configuration (conventional technique), cross-stitch (CS) configuration (conventional technique) and VM suture configuration (novel technique). Ten pairs of each group were mounted in a material testing machine and subjected to a simple tensile test and a cyclic loading test for their biomechanical comparison. Results: The VM group and CS group had significantly higher ultimate failure load, linear stiffness and fatigue strength as compared to the HM group. The failure mode was suture breakage or tendon rupture for the VM and the CS group, while the suture pullout of the tendon only occurred in the HM group. Conclusion: Among the three techniques used for repair of a tendon weave, the VM suture technique was demonstrated to have the greatest tensile strength and least associated with suture pull-out. In this study, an investigation of the air permeability and ventilation resistance of the polyester and nylon air jet textured fabrics and 100 % cotton fabrics have been conducted. Twenty-seven fabrics were manufactured by use of Two way Anova with replication experiment. Polyester and nylon 6 air jet textured yarns were used in the weft way and 100%cotton yarn in the warp way for fabric production. 100%cotton fabric was also produced for comparison purpose. The warp of 2/80s cotton yarn was constant for all samples. The fabrics were manufactured by using three different weaves i.e., plain weave, 2/1 twill weave, and 5 end satin weaves with three levels of pick densities i.e., 60, 72 and 84. Air permeability and ventilation resistance of twenty-seven fabrics were tested by using standard testing methods. The test results were analysed statistically by use of Minitab software. Performance of produced air textured woven fabrics were assessed and compared with 100 % cotton fabrics, with respect to air permeability and ventilation resistance characteristics. It has been concluded from this research study that yarn type, type of weave and fabric construction parameter i.e., pick density influences the air permeability and ventilation resistance of the fabrics. The article in its first part aims to give an account of the introduction of the term “deconstruction” in the field of fashion and studies dedicated to it. Since “deconstruction” has spread like a virus in North American culture since the 1980s, it is intended to verify the congruence of this spread that has reached the fashion world through the success of architectural deconstructivism. Beyond various generic and superficial references, a certain interest in the work of fashion designer Martin Margela has been recognized. Starting from this general framework, an attempt was made to show what themes and resources “deconstruction” can offer to fashion studies, in particular through the reading of a text by Derrida dedicated to the figure of the “veil” in the tradition of Western culture.

The stability of two-wheeled vehicles is predominantly characterized by the well-known weave and wobble vibration modes, which have been extensively investigated in the literature, mainly in terms of their frequencies and damping ratios. In this work the focus is towards their mode shapes, which are investigated using the screw-axis (also called Mozzi-axis), instead of the classic compass diagrams, for a better understanding of their three-dimensional patterns. The analysis is then carried out using the velocity centres for a characterization from the top, rear and side view of the vehicle. The multibody vehicle model employed for the numerical analysis is built in Adams. The dataset resembles that of a 250cc sport motorcycle, and has been derived from laboratory tests. The stability analysis is carried out in the frequency domain. It is found that, depending on the selected plane for the projection of the three-dimensional vibration motion, the trajectories of the velocity centres of the weave and wobble can cross either aft or fore the centre of mass, which has been associated to the under- and over-steering behaviour in the literature. A contamination on a textile material is defined as an undesirable, local formation that deviates in appearance from the rest of the material. In this paper the relationship between the shape and surface of liquid contaminations and the firmness factor of woven fabric is investigated. The interdependence of constructional and structural parameters of raw and bleached cotton fabrics were analysed. The results show that selected contaminations are distributed differently, primarily depending on the construction characteristics of the fabric, type of contamination and hydrophilicity of cotton fabric.

The beneficial effect of STF impregnation in enhancing the impact resistance of high-performance fabrics has been extensively reported in the literature. However, this research work reports that fabric structure has a decisive role in moderating the effectiveness of STF impregnation in terms of impact energy absorption. Plain woven fabrics having sett varying from 25 × 25 inch−1 to 55 × 55 inch−1 were impregnated with STF at two different padding pressures to obtain different add-ons. The impact energy absorption by STF impregnated loosely woven fabrics was found to be higher than that of their neat counterparts for both levels of add-on, while opposite trend was observed in case of tightly woven fabrics. Further, comparison of tightly woven plain, 2/2 twill, 3/1 twill and 2 × 2 matt fabrics revealed beneficial effect of STF impregnation, except for the plain woven fabric, establishing that there exists a fabric structure-STF impregnation interplay that tunes the impact resistance of woven fabrics. The strength properties of a flexible hose made of titanium carbide and having a weave not previously used for engineering purposes are studied. During the finite element modeling, it is shown that the hoses of the proposed design are able to withstand pressure, justifying their industrial application. At the same time, they are able to demonstrate a sufficiently high flexibility, nontraditional in the context of the mechanical properties of technical ceramics. This article specifically focuses on the prediction of thread crimp suitable for all types of dobby woven fabric constructions. Herein, warp and weft crimp prediction was performed using mathematical formulations based on the geometric characteristics of the woven fabric structure. Prediction was designed to react to the influence of all input parameters of the woven fabric construction. The theoretical, predicted values of weft and warp threads crimp were compared with experimentally obtained values for accurate size measurement of the thread crimp and were found to be reasonably consistent. The present work follows in the tracks of previous studies investigating the stability of motorcycles. Two principal oscillation modes of motorcycles are the well-known wobble and weave modes. The research in this field started about fifty years ago and showed how different motorcycle parameters influence the stability of the mentioned modes. However, there is sometimes a minor lack in the physical analysis of why a certain parameter influences the stability. The derived knowledge can be complemented by some mechanical momentum correlations. This work aims to ascertain, in depth, the physical phenomena that stand behind the influence of fork bending compliance on the wobble mode and behind the velocity dependence of the weave damping behaviour. After a summary of the relevant work in this field, this paper presents different rigid body simulation models with increasing complexity and discusses the related eigenvalue analysis and time behaviour. With these models, the mentioned modes are explained and the physical phenomena only partly covered by the literature are shown. The fabrics with longitudinal stripes have become more common both by their structure and diversity of appearance, and also the products made of them, this being the reason they occupy an important place in fabrics production. Associating links with equal or different average float produces a profound change in the internal fabric structure, giving it a permanent and stable character in stripe appearance. The stripe effect obtained by weaving technology provides stripping stability to the stripes, both in the humid-thermal finishing processes and in the current maintenance, in the wearing process (repeated washings). Also due to their structure, striped fabrics obtained by weaving technology can not be replaced by other fabrics whose stripes are obtained by other methods and technologies. This is the reason why, in most cases, striped fabrics obtained by weaving technology are preferred, and not striped fabrics obtained by other processes, such as printing. From the point of view of the structure, the particularities of striped fabrics obtained by the weaving technology, consist in the way the basic parameters - the connection, the density and the fineness of the yarns, as well as the auxiliary parameters - the curling degree, the dimensional change of the threads by integrating it into the fabric, influence their internal structure. The relationship of the longitudinal strip line depends on the fundamental diagonal link ratio, if it is the even or odd number, and the number of (Xi) lines in the stripe with weft and warp effect.

Carbon fiber bundles decorated with titanium dioxide/cadmium sulfide heterojunction can be weaved into photocatalyst cloth for eliminating various contaminants. Semiconductor heterojunction powders have exhibited the enhanced photocatalytic activities, but their practical applications have been limited due to their poor recycling performance from flowing wastewater. To solve these problems, with carbon fibers (CFs) as the fixing substrate, we constructed TiO 2 /CdS heterojunction as a model on CF surface by utilizing a hydrothermal-chemical bath deposition method. CFs/TiO 2 /CdS bundles display a wide photoabsorption with two photoabsorption edges (~410 and 520 nm). Furthermore, CFs/TiO 2 /CdS bundles can be weaved into macroscopical cloth (such as weight: 0.1 g, area: 4 × 4 cm2) which have considerable photocurrent density of 5.75 × 10−6 A/cm2. Under visible light irradiation (λ > 400 nm), macroscopic CFs/TiO 2 /CdS cloth can degrade 95.44% methylene blue (MB), 64.95% acid orange 7 (AO7), 91.37% tetracycline hydrochloride (TC) and remove 90.70% hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) after 120 min, higher than those by CFs/CdS (43.42% MB, 37.42% AO7, 31.76% TC and 30.45% Cr(VI)) or CFs/TiO 2 (12.84% MB, 10.48% AO7, 11.85% TC and 15.58% Cr(VI)). Calligraphy, maps, roots, mazes, tapestries—in their work, El Anatsui from Ghana and Igshaan Adams and Gerhard Marx, both from South Africa, explore arcane, semi-abstract languages of sign and code. Employing immersive tactics of collapsibility and fluidity of form, they interrogate the primacy of omniscient, objective, or imperial perspective. Each artist uses discarded materials—prosaic articles that come with their own familiar, sometimes toxic, clutch of correspondences. These matter-of-fact materials are then broken down into unrecognisable matter and reconstituted to create intriguing forms that propose provisional, contradictory, shifting modes and logics. Drawing on the mutually forged philosophy of Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari, I read the work of these three artists as actively de-mapping the fixed codes mapped into the substances, surfaces, and textures of their everyday worlds. Their practice involves embodied, conscious rituals of sourcing discarded materials and forging them into imaginative, open-ended calligraphic tapestries, collage drawings, and aluminium assemblages. This actively transformative practice presents a model for what it looks like to undo the ideological structures through which the world is filtered. These artists are unmaking the imprints and violent co-options of what Deleuze and Guattari call the "Oedipal", by working through its physical imprints in the inherited material of the world. In this article, I argue that their abstracting, metamorphic treatment of materials and inherited symbolic codes counters the literalism, binarism, and political expediency that inform dominant discourses around the removal, destruction, commissioning, or making of monuments, memorials, or public artworks in decolonising contexts. The stability of two-wheeled vehicles is predominantly characterized by the well-known weave and wobble vibration modes, which have been extensively investigated in the literature, mainly in terms of their frequencies and damping ratios. In this work the focus is towards their mode shapes, which are investigated using the screw-axis (also called Mozzi-axis), instead of the classic compass diagrams, for a better understanding of their three-dimensional patterns. The analysis is then carried out using the velocity centres for a characterization from the top, rear and side view of the vehicle. The multibody vehicle model employed for the numerical analysis is built in Adams. The dataset resembles that of a 250cc sport motorcycle, and has been derived from laboratory tests. The stability analysis is carried out in the frequency domain. It is found that, depending on the selected plane for the projection of the three-dimensional vibration motion, the trajectories of the velocity centres of the weave and wobble can cross either aft or fore the centre of mass, which has been associated to the under- and over-steering behaviour in the literature.

Over the last decade, the progressive application of natural fibres in polymer composites has had a major effect in alleviating environmental impacts. Recently, there is a growing interest in the development of green materials in a woven form by utilising natural fibres from lignocellulosic materials for many applications such as structural, non-structural composites, household utilities, automobile parts, aerospace components, flooring, and ballistic materials. Woven materials are one of the most promising materials for substituting or hybridising with synthetic polymeric materials in the production of natural fibre polymer composites (NFPCs). These woven materials are flexible, able to be tailored to the specific needs and have better mechanical properties due to their weaving structures. Seeing that the potential advantages of woven materials in the fabrication of NFPC, this paper presents a detailed review of studies related to woven materials. A variety of factors that influence the properties of the resultant woven NFRC such as yarn characteristics, fabric properties as well as manufacturing parameters were discussed. Past and current research efforts on the development of woven NFPCs from various polymer matrices including polypropylene, polylactic acid, epoxy and polyester and the properties of the resultant composites were also compiled. Last but not least, the applications, challenges, and prospects in the field also were highlighted.

Textile production has deep roots in the past, and knowledge of the processing and use of textile fibres can be assumed since the Stone Age. Over the centuries, textile production has constantly improved and a range of raw materials and textile bindings have been used. In archaeological finds we rarely encounter the remains of fragile textile material; however, it is possible to reconstruct the level, maturity and variety of textile structures in the past, above all from small discovered fragments, most often from burial or waste features. The article provides an overview of weaves, their characteristics and specific examples identified in preserved textiles from archaeological finds in the Czech Republic dating to the period from the Early to the Late Middle Ages. The present work follows in the tracks of previous studies investigating the stability of motorcycles. Two principal oscillation modes of motorcycles are the well-known wobble and weave modes. The research in this field started about fifty years ago and showed how different motorcycle parameters influence the stability of the mentioned modes. However, there is sometimes a minor lack in the physical analysis of why a certain parameter influences the stability. The derived knowledge can be complemented by some mechanical momentum correlations. This work aims to ascertain, in depth, the physical phenomena that stand behind the influence of fork bending compliance on the wobble mode and behind the velocity dependence of the weave damping behaviour. After a summary of the relevant work in this field, this paper presents different rigid body simulation models with increasing complexity and discusses the related eigenvalue analysis and time behaviour. With these models, the mentioned modes are explained and the physical phenomena only partly covered by the literature are shown. Finally, the influence of the rider model on weave and wobble is presented.

Water transfer through porous textiles consists of two sequential processes: synchronous wicking−evaporating and evaporating alone. In this work we set out to identify the main structural parameters affecting the water transfer process of cotton fabrics. Eight woven fabrics with different floats were produced. The fabrics were evaluated on a specially designed instrument capable of measuring the water loss through a vertical wicking process. Each test took 120 min, and two phases were defined: Phase I for the first 10 min and Phase II for the last 110 min according to wicking behavior transition. Principal components and multivariate statistical methods were utilized to analyze the data collected. The results showed that Phase I dominated the whole wicking−evaporating process, and the moisture transfer speed in this phase varied with fabric structure, whereas the moisture transfer speeds in Phase II were similar and constant regardless of fabric structure. In addition, fabric with more floats has high water transfer speed in Phase I due to its loosened structure with more macropores.

This paper aims to investigate the relationship between fabric weave structure and its comfort properties. The two basic weave structures and four derivatives for each selected weave structure were studied. Comfort properties, porosity, air permeability and thermal resistance of all the fabric samples were determined. In our research the 1/1 plain weave structure showed the highest thermal resistance making it suitable for cold climatic conditions. The 2/2 matt weave depicted the lowest thermal resistance which makes it appropriate for hot climatic conditions.

In recent years the Whipple Carvallo Bicycle Model has been extended to analyse high speed stability of bicycles. Various researchers have developed models taking into account the effects of front frame compliance and tyre properties, nonetheless, a systematic analysis has not been yet carried out. This paper aims at analysing parametrically the influence of front frame compliance and tyre properties on the open loop stability of bicycles. Some indexes based on the eigenvalues of the dynamic system are defined to evaluate quantitatively bicycle stability. The parametric analysis is carried out with a factorial design approach to determine the most influential parameters. A commuting and a racing bicycle are considered and numerical results show different effects of the various parameters on each bicycle. In the commuting bicycle, the tyre properties have greater influence than front frame compliance, and the weave mode has the main effect on stability. Conversely, in the racing bicycle, the front frame compliance parameters have greater influence than tyre properties, and the wobble mode has the main effect on stability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The tearing strength is more vital in heavy duty fabrics. So it is important to know the effects of the fabric structural parameters on the tearing resistance of these types of fabrics. In this work the effects of some fabric structural parameters were studied on the tearing properties of fabrics used in tents. The experimental work was divided into two parts; the first part was to study the effect of fabric design on the tearing strength. Six fabric designs of the same type of fiber were used. They were of different specific tightness. The second part was to produce fabrics which are used in tents with different specifications. Different sets of fabric specimens were prepared. These specimens were tested for tearing resistance, to study the effects of these structural parameters on the tearing resistance of the fabrics. This paper investigates the mechanisms of how spatially distributed lane changes (LCs) interact and contribute to “capacity-drop” at three types of extended bottlenecks: merge, diverge, and weave. A hybrid approach is used to study the problem: analytical approach to capture the behavior of merging and diverging LCs and numerical simulations to quantify capacity-drop considering various geometric configurations of extended bottlenecks. This study focuses on the impact of LC vehicles’ bounded acceleration on “void” (wasted space) creation in traffic streams when they insert/desert at a lower speed, and interactions among multiple voids. We found that (1) LCs closer to the downstream end of bottlenecks are more likely to create persisting voids and contribute to capacity-drop. (2) For weave bottlenecks, capacity-drop is governed by two counteracting effects of LCs: persisting voids and utilization of vacancies created by diverging vehicles; (3) the more balanced the merging and diverging flows, the lower the capacity-drop; and (4) capacity-drop is minimum if merging LCs occur downstream of diverging LCs, and maximum in the opposite alignment. This paper deals with the stability analysis of a novel four wheeled tilting motorcycle. This new kind of vehicle is equipped with two front steering wheels and two rear wheels; the front and rear suspension mechanisms allow the scooter to roll freely as a standard motorcycle. An analytical model of the vehicle with locked suspensions, rigid and lenticular tires was developed in order to study the stability of the system in straight running and to carry out a modal analysis focusing on the main normal modes. The frame and all the vehicle components were considered as rigid bodies, the driver was considered fixed to the frame and the tires behavior was described by a linear function of the camber and side-slip angles. The action of the driver on the handlebar was not taken into account, considering the vehicle running in straight without any control system. The stability analysis shows that the eigenmodes of the four-wheeler have several common features with the capsize, weave, wobble and rear wobble modes which characterize the dynamics of two and three wheeled motorcycles. A sensitivity analysis showing the influence of the front trail on stability and the vehicle eigenmodes is presented. A graphical and intuitive representation of the eigenvectors is also given. Deformation of embankments built on marshy territories is mainly displayed by slowly increasing residual settlements and significant elastic settlements. These cause intensive wear of fastening elements and prove the definitive role of peat used as foundation material in the reliable performance of railway track in general. Investigation of peat physical and deformation characteristics were conducted on samples having undisturbed structure. The result of experiments were obtained the following dependencies: E(W) – dependence of aggregate deformation modulus on natural moisture level; E(ρ d ) – dependence of aggregate deformation modulus on porosity. Analysis of the obtained data allows to draw a conclusion, that peat porosity growth at low values of moisture leads to significant reduction of deformation modulus. It is also worth mentioning that the impact of vibration and dynamic loading increases this reduction even further. The described findings emphasize the importance of taking into consideration vibration and dynamic loads when calculating settlements in railway embankments built on peat foundations. In this essay, I argue that weaving functions as more than a literary flourish in Judges 16 in that it reflects widespread androcentric cultural stereotypes concerning female sexuality, deception, and entrapment. I further posit that these associations find linguistic support in the tale's sustained and often clever engagement with the language of weaving. Taken in its entirety, the concantenation of weaving imagery and vocabulary evokes said stereotypes to enhance the story's erotic and foreboding atmosphere. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Energy absorption behavior of flexible armour materials treated with Shear Thickening Fluids (STF) was studied. Five different structures were prepared with varying thread densities of p-aramid yarns, followed by treatment with 60% w/w STF. In untreated condition, plain woven fabrics show highest impact resistance in low velocity impacts, followed by 3/1 twill, 2/2 twill, 5-end satin and 2/2 matt weaves. Ballistic impact mitigation behavior improves with increase in thread density in case of plain woven fabrics. Addition of STF significantly improves both low and high velocity impact behavior of the panels. Low velocity behavior of STF treated fabrics have been published previously [12]. This paper brings together both low and high velocity impact behavior of various geometries of fabrics. It was seen that both primary and secondary yarns are engaged during impact which improves impact mitigation behavior of STF treated fabrics. However, fabrics get jammed at thread densities beyond 32×32 per inch. As was observed earlier in low velocity impact conditions, addition of STF did not enhance performance of fabrics with high thread density in high velocity impact as well. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
