One year after the 1967 June War, also known as al-naksa , the Syrian poet Adunis announced the launching of a new cultural journal: Mawaqif. The article discusses how that launch in 1968 became the point of culmination in the poet's strategy to emancipate himself from the poetry journal Shiʿr after resigning from its editorial board in 1964. A close examination of Adunis's public interventions before and right after 1967 and Mawaqif 's subsequent first issue will show how crisis narratives and the practice of periodical editing serve cultural actors as a strategy of intellectual self-fashioning to gain a distinct position in the cultural field of their time. Mawaqif would accordingly emerge not as a cultural product of the 'crisis' that the June War has allegedly constituted but as one of the cultural producers of this moment as a crisis. In 1954 the first issue of New Testament Studies (NTS) was released under the auspices of the Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas (SNTS), which was founded on 16 September 1938 in Birmingham. The journal aimed to interlink (European) NT scholarship and to ensure its quality and standards by the society's members. Why did it take so long to release the journal, even though the Dutch NT scholar Johannes de Zwaan (1883–1957), who initially came up with the idea, intended the publication of an international quarterly right from the beginning? In 1953 he was not considered for election to the Editorial Board and therefore decided to publish another New Testament journal whose first issue appeared in 1956: Novum Testamentum. Reflecting on present unease about structural biases in the discipline, and aiming to offer a data-rich response to some recent criticisms of this Journal , the Editorial Board has undertaken a study of the representation of female scholars in the Journal of Roman Studies. To that end, we have gathered data on publications, submissions and JRS Editorial Board membership for the past fifteen years, from Volume 95 (2005) through to the present volume, Volume 109 (2019). The data are set out in the final section (VII), following a brief review of the main results. Our goal here is neither to present a definitive analysis, nor to offer a commentary on the underlying causes of the patterns revealed (on which we expect much fruitful discussion elsewhere). Rather, the JRS Editorial Board aims to make key data available both to inform a much wider debate within the profession as a whole and, importantly, to inform this Journal 's policies, procedures and active outreach. The Board is also acutely aware that any analysis of gender bias needs to be framed carefully — both by an awareness that there are other under-represented groups in the discipline (on which our data in their current form would regrettably only offer a most imperfect picture), and by a sensitivity to the limitations of a conception of gender as a simple binary. Journal editors serve a vital, powerful role in academic fields. They set research priorities, serve as gatekeepers for research, play a critical role in advancing junior scholars as reviewers and eventually into editorial roles, build extensive networks, and gain valuable insight into the behavior and preferences of reviewers and scholars. This article analyzes data collected from leading public administration journals in 2017 to investigate the role of women as gatekeepers of public administration knowledge. The data illustrate a clear underrepresentation of women on editorial boards. Drawing from these data, research on journal editorships, and feminist theory, the authors present a critique of the current state of public administration research and a discussion of a way forward. They conclude with a proposal for how all public administration scholars (junior, senior, men, and women), journal leadership, and academic departments can move toward increasing women's representation in these important positions. With an increasing number of Iranian journals indexed in global citation databases such as the Web of Science (WoS), it is important to identify to what extent these journals are "internationalized" and if the international composition of these journals influences their quality. To ascertain this, a total of 38 Iranian journals covered in the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) 2013 was sampled. The internationalization of Iranian journals is considered in terms of: (a) direct contributions in terms of foreign authors' articles published in Iran, (b) indirect contribution in terms of citations from foreign authors' documents to articles published in Iranian journals, and (c) editorial board composition in the field drawn internationally from foreign institutions. Findings revealed that (a) foreign researchers contributed 34.8% of papers in Iranian WoS-indexed journals, (b) a total of 30.6% of citations to Iranian WoS-indexed journals were received from foreign papers or Iranian internationally collaborative papers, and (c) foreign researchers occupied 33.6% of the editorial board membership in Iranian journals. The study found that only two Iranian journals in environmental sciences and chemistry have Impact Factors (IFs) above the median of the journals in the disciplinary category areas in which they are classified in JCR (general medicine, applied mathematics, civil engineering, environmental sciences, chemistry, polymer science, agriculture, and agronomy). Additionally, eight Iranian journals have been placed in the first and second quartile (top 50%) of journals of the same field in the JCR.
