This review examines Lucas Pope's independent game Papers, Please as an instantiation of critical making within the discipline of the digital humanities. By confronting the player with moral decisions in their capacity as an immigration officer allowing or denying entry to immigrants within a totalitarian state, the game introduces an expressive form of game design in which conceptual practices are used to examine political and social realities. This type of critical media practice introduces a political ethic to the digital humanities that is arguably scarce within the discipline. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of the article is to demonstrate one of the fundamental characteristics of media discourse on video games: its syncretism. This pertains to the amalgamation of content and structures typical of several different spheres of human activity: entertainment, technology, culture, and business. A genre-based discourse analysis is employed to examine which genre patterns are typical of the media discourse on video games and the common methods of their manifestation. The paper discusses in greater detail four selected genres: video game review, news, overview, and a game publisher's note. The research data was gathered from contemporary Polish-language media outlets specialised in gaming topics, as well as Polish online stores selling video games. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The importance of this paper relates to the need to construct zoos that meet social and ethical obligations to be economically viable centres of both wildlife conservation and education in the twenty-first century. Recognizing the importance of the attractiveness of animals to the success of visitors’ zoo experience, this paper provides an analysis of the attractiveness of differing types of animals in a zoo setting. The paper is based on the data that was gathered in 2013 at Durrell Wildlife Park, UK, using a non-participant observation method that incorporated the collection of multiple types of verbal and visual data concerning visitor and animal behaviour. The animals studied possess differing levels of charisma and encompass a range of taxonomic categories. The results highlighted in this paper demonstrate that the ability of animals to attract and retain the attention of visitors varies significantly and suggests that the reasons behind this are related to a complex interaction of the characteristics that define animal attractiveness. However, the activity level of animals and their visibility appear to play a key role in determining the ability of an animal to attract and retain visitor attention. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Bullying, undermining behaviour and harassment (BUBH) have been reported in entertainment, politics and sport. Such behaviours may also be common in surgery, and are frequently associated with poor patient care and inferior outcomes. The aim was to define the prevalence and impact of this behaviour in the international surgical workplace, and to explore counterstrategies. Methods: A systematic review was conducted by searching EMBASE, Medline, PsycINFO and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews in August 2017. Original research studies (Oxford Centre for Evidence‐based Medicine levels 1–4) investigating the prevalence and impact of BUBH in surgery, and/or counterstrategies, were eligible for inclusion. The review was conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. Results: Of 2692 papers, 32 were eligible for inclusion. Twenty‐two reported the prevalence of BUBH in surgery, 11 studied the impact of this behaviour and six investigated counterstrategies. Prevalence data showed that BUBH are common in the surgical workplace. Their impact can be profound, compromising mental health, reducing job satisfaction, and inducing suicidal ideation. Formal reporting systems were perceived as ineffective and even potentially harmful to victims. Conclusion: Bullying, undermining behaviour and harassment are highly prevalent within surgery, and extremely damaging to victims. There is little high‐quality research into counterstrategies, although professionalism training using simulated scenarios may be useful. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

10. ‘Distinctiveness’ and the BBC: a new battleground for public service television?

PUBLIC service television programs ,AMUSEMENTS ,NONPROFIT organizations ,SCHEDULING - Abstract
UK government-led consultations over the renewal of the BBC’s Charter, and the new 2017 Charter itself, have foregrounded the ‘distinctiveness’ of the BBC’s output, especially in popular entertainment television. Focusing on these debates and proposals, this article considers the value of distinctiveness when applied to BBC television, identifying definitions of the term and its history (or lack of it) in previous debates about the British broadcasting system. It discusses the implications of proposed systems for measuring distinctiveness quantitatively. It examines why the publicly funded, not-for-profit model of broadcasting might be expected to yield more distinctive outputs, yet also detects the spectre of concerns about the BBC’s market impact to be present in the background of these debates, in relation both to the production of entertainment content and to its scheduling. The article argues that the domestic and global economic and cultural benefits arising from the BBC’s potential for creating ‘distinctive’ programming should outweigh concerns about market impact. It also concludes that ‘distinctiveness’ adds little to the BBC’s existing service requirements, but risks being used prescriptively and as a weapon with which the BBC’s output can constantly be questioned by its critics. TOURISM ,CULTURAL production ,CONSUMERISM ,AMUSEMENTS ,MANUSCRIPTS - Abstract
In general, this manuscript critiques the contemporary dynamisms of the formation/deformation of the cultural sphere under the increased mobilisations of globalization. In particular, it inspects the symphysis [... SYMPHYSIS] between 'tourism' and 'culture', where the latter stands as an immense portmanteau phenomenon embracing many different things (under the vicissitudes of globalisation/glocalisation) across the protean realms of race, gender, entertainment, consumerism, meaning-making, et cetera. Critiquing Jamal and Robinson's recent attempt at panoramic coverage of the geography of tourism/tourism studies), it argues that tourism is regularly implicated in cultural practices relating to power-exercises in/across society. Then, in synthesising Bauman’s vision of contemporary society as that moving from seemingly well-ordered stabilities to a geographic realm where change is the-only-permanence and uncertainty the-only-certainty, the manuscript generates five lead propositions calling for 'plural knowability', viz., for a deeper/richer palette-of-imagination on the teeming multiplicities and throbbing provisionalities of culture as it emerges/unfolds or otherwise gets recast under the destabilising 'nomadic logics' of our time. In viewing culture as a vehicle of both 'impermanence' and 'seduction' nowadays, the paper notes how in so many places and spaces, individuals are less inclined to be engaged locally/ regionally/nationally as culture — partly through the volatile iterability of travel/tourism — has become an ever-widening polylogue. YOUNG consumers ,AMUSEMENTS ,RETAIL stores ,SHOPPING - Abstract
Purpose -- The purpose of this paper is to explore the theoretical background of the involvement and the entertainment of children of four to seven years of age in the purchase process at Hungarian retail stores. It also examines the practice of local and foreign retailers in Hungary. Design/methodology/approach -- A review of literature is followed by the description of an exploratory study as well as its findings. The study contained two distinct phases: first 160 retail stores which were selling goods to children (exclusively or together with products for adults) were randomly selected and observed, and then 120 face-to-face or mini group interviews were made with Hungarian children. Findings -- At the moment retail store managers in Hungary do not recognise that children can, and often do affect the length of time their parents spend in retail stores and that children also exert influence on their parents' purchase decisions and behaviour. Retail store managers rarely provide any entertainment for children and involve them in the shopping experience and even when they do, they fail to do it in the right way. Also, store personnel do not have the right mentality towards children. The study also reveals that children do not wish to have sophisticated or expensive games during the purchase process, but instead would like to be actively involved in the shopping experience by completing little "missions" or "challenges". Research limitations/implications -- On the basis of the research results it becomes clear that creatively designed involvement and entertainment of children in retail stores would encourage families to spend more time spent in retail stores and may serve to increased sales. It would however presume collaboration between retail stores and the producers of toys and creative accessories. Originality/value -- The paper aims to address the rarely and sporadically analysed question of how retail managers should entertain and involve young children in the process of shopping. The exploratory study sheds light on the big gap between what is offered by the retail management and what is expected by the young children during shopping in Hungary. It also points to the apparent lack of attention and awareness amongst retailers concerning the influence that children have on parents during the shopping process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the composition of “tourism experience” of tourist visiting during the Nabakalebara event at Puri, India.Design/methodology/approach The paper applies data reduction using exploratory factor analysis on a sample of 300 respondents drawn during the event and condenses a set of 20 attributes into a list of five compressible factors.Findings The research shows that visitors visualise tourism experience as a combination of five factors: education, entertainment, esthetics, escapism and ease of facilities. They assigned different weightage in terms of significance to each of these factors. Internal configuration of these factors also reveals interesting patterns.Research limitations/implications A non-probability sampling method is applied in this research. Future studies should replicate the research in different social, economic and geographical context to see if the factor composition and structure remain unchanged.Practical implications Organisers should focus on improving ease of facilities. Disproportionate expenditure on adding to other factors is not expected to yield matching dividends.Social implications The study assumes significance as this kind of event used to happen on every 15 years. This attracts millions of visitors. The paper explores the expectation of visitors.Originality/value This paper is among the few works done on understanding tourism experience during the Nabakalebara at Puri, India. It adds significantly to the meagre body of knowledge in the area of tourism experience. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

El Jadida Beach (X: -8.5007116; Y: 33.2316326) is a sandy beach of low altitude that constitutes a kind of enclave located between the port of El Jadida and rocky outcrops. It is influenced by natural and anthropic factors, as well as the impact of tourism, particularly during the summer, when sand is used for amusement activities (Beach Ball competition). In order to follow the morphodynamic changes of this beach, we carried out a study on two different time scales: a fifty-five years (1963-2018) shoreline evolution study using aerial photos and satellite images based on GIS tools using the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS) and a two-years (2017-2019) morphological beach study using a Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS). According to the results obtained by the diachronic study, the beach studied showed erosion in its middle and an accumulation at these bulges. This result is due to the presence of the harbor breakwater to the NW and the rocky outcrops to the SE; acting as a barrier preventing the movement of sediments and the erosion in the middle can be explained by the reduction of the sediment supply from the Oued Oum Erabia and by the exposure of this part to the dominant swells and also the human activities like used the beach for amusement activities (Beach Ball competition and other). Beach profile observations results show accumulation in the subaerial beach and erosion in the lower part of the foreshore. The study on two different time scales adopted in this paper, allowed us to understand longshore and cross-shore sedimentary mobility. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The rise of China triggers a hot debate in the United States as well as in China concerning whether a rising power can coordinate with the existing power or inevitably confront each other. On this issue, some foresee a possibility of the next great war between the two countries whereas others view the prospect of coevolution in which Beijing and Washington can shrewdly evade armed conflicts. This paper tries to illustrate how the United States and China are expanding their naval capabilities in parallel with the ongoing strategic debate within China and the United States. The rivalry between the two countries can have a lot of influence on the foreign policies of neighboring countries like South Korea and Japan. This paper also deals with how South Korea and Japan, comparatively small powers, have responded to the super powers' power game in the region. Finally, this paper suggests some policy proposals for South Korea to play a role in stabilizing the regional order. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to theoretically and empirically explore tourist experiences with the niche-like, yet global phenomenon of escape room attractions.Design/methodology/approach An exploratory empirical study of visitors’ experiences with selected top-rated escape rooms in the USA and Europe was carried out by means of netnographic research and automated content analysis.Findings The results show that this attraction provides new, peak, unique and fun experiences through the challenging activities and social component of the game play. The findings provide an insight into both the authenticity of experiences with novel attractions and the group aspects of fun and flow concepts.Research limitations/implications The findings are restricted to online reviews on the TripAdvisor website and are possibly biased because of the use of a non-random sample.Practical implications Theoretical implications are discussed and explicated as future research questions. They are relevant for the conceptual development, research and management of playful experiences within urban and special interest tourism. Societal implications are also addressed.Originality/value This paper is a preliminary in-depth examination of the escape room phenomenon from the customer experience standpoint. It is of relevance for the conceptualisation and improvement of tourist experiences with new and fun attractions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper proposes a perspective on analyzing video games as film by comparing the interactions of the player with those of a producer or other member in the film-making process. This contrasts with existing methodologies which focus on formal characteristics or narratology. This proposal also provides a method for combining the interactivity of games with the storytelling capacity of cinema without encountering the narrative paradox. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SPORTS ,TECHNOLOGY ,AMUSEMENTS ,SPORTS business ,SPORTS competitions ,TELEVISED sports - Abstract
Sport is an increasingly widespread social phenomenon. Mankind is no longer so good at playing sports, but it excels at watching TV, and sports competitions are the favourite show. Why? Because sports have simple rules, easy to understand and add a special combination to entertainment. It's about drama, suspense, passion. Unlike the art show, in the sports show everything is anchored in reality. Everything happens for real, the plasticity of the images that the show offers sports, the fact that the executions differ attributes to the competition the value of effective means of educating the aesthetic sense. The sports show favourably influences the socio-affective field of the team and the members of a club. It also fulfils the economic function, there is a certain kind of sports show that has a role entertainment. In certain circumstances, sports as a spectacle influences the sphere of politics. The symbiosis of the media - sport is almost perfect, because without media coverage, sport is not as attractive as television, radio and the written press does not satisfy the audience if they do not bring content to their programs especially since society is increasingly dependent on information. Inthe paper "Integration of sport with other industries like entertainment" we try to present the main elements that led to this connection between sports and c, why sports came to be seen as a show and what are the main sports that offer a high degree of entertainment. This paper considers the question of how immoral elements in instances of humour affect funniness. Comic ethicism is the position that each immoral element negatively affects funniness and if their cumulative effect is sufficient, then funniness is eliminated. I focus on Berys Gaut's central argument in favour of comic ethicism; the merited response argument. In this journal, Noël Carroll has criticized the merited response argument as illegitimately conflating comic merit with moral merit. I argue that the merited response argument, and hence comic ethicism more generally, is vulnerable to Carroll's criticism only if the comic ethicist fails to distinguish between three closely-related but distinct concepts; humour, amusement and funniness. By providing separate accounts of these three concepts, I explain how Carroll's criticism is unsuccessful. In summary, accepting my distinctions between humour, amusement and funniness makes it clear that comic ethicism is the right position. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper highlights the significance of popular astronomy lectures in British theatres during the first half of the nineteenth century. The popular astronomy lecturing trade inherited from Enlightenment natural philosophy discourses. A ‘theatrical turn’ developed in the late eighteenth century and became extensive by the 1820s. Lecturers moved astronomy displays into theatres and used theatrical facilities, which resulted in a distinct type of show blending scientific instruction with sensational amusement. Lent was especially high season for this business in a metropolitan entertainment market. Pre–eminent cases of private entrepreneurs in this trade included William Walker, Deane Franklin Walker, George Bartley, and C. H. Adams. By exploring astronomy lectures in theatres, this paper also shows the spatial influence of the site on the format and style of the performance: the benefits and constraints of a theatre made a theatrical astronomy lecture distinct from others at a formal institution. The onset of aging heath is a transition in an individual's lifetime that can become as vexatious as it is inevitable. The human body gradually weakens as arthritis, blindness, heart disease and multitudes of other ailments begin to take root. Examining the present product market, nearly all products catered towards the elderly user demographic consist of tools designed to assist the various physical limitations that heighten with age. Products such as canes, hearing devices, and monitors have established a dominant presence in the user market to provide elders with the aid they require to effectively cope with their respective maladies. Despite this, a significant portion of the elder demographic struggles daily with debilitating cognitive disorders. Mental illnesses pose as much of a crippling impact on elders as do physical ailments, but the current market struggles to offer any solutions for these issues beyond psychological counseling and prescribed medicine. Looking beyond disorders such as Alzheimer's and dementia, research studies outline the shocking prevalence of underlying mental stigmas such as anxiety and loneliness in elders. Fortune8 is a conceptual entertainment console designed to help elucidate the needs of elderly users who suffer from cognitive stigmas and attend to their specific requirements by attempting to innovate an overshadowed market demographic. The project's background, research, and conceptualization are detailed in this paper as well as descriptions and features of the final product that were presented to a panel of judges at Arizona State University. The concept of media enjoyment has both delighted and frustrated entertainment scholars for several decades. Although a rich body of research highlights how media experiences can entertain, amuse, and enlighten audiences, the scholarship is conceptually, theoretically, and methodologically fragmented. In this synthesis paper, we first tackle conceptual issues, reviewing prior research that has both supported and challenged a hedonic approach to enjoyment. We then argue the enjoyment-as-attitude approach best explains the processes through which audiences experience enjoyment. We conclude by addressing definitional, methodological, and other implications for this approach. Areas for future research are also discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, invention learning curriculum-based serious game contents were designed and developed. Developed serious game contents evaluated effectiveness among elementary school students with participants classified according to enthusiasm for learning and communication condition for a period of first semester. Existing game-based learning contents tend to give too much importance to learning or amusement which has made it difficult to develop contents. To solve the above-mentioned problems, this study designed and developed serious game which strengthened organic combination between amusement and learning. Serious game contents were designed and developed ways which understand invention principle of curriculum as game play. Evaluation of effectiveness showed that serious game is effective in learning of participants in this study. It was ascertained that students with greater enthusiasm for learning who volunteered invention education course showed better recognition of invention and game than those who studied under general curriculum. This paper reconstructs levels of cinemagoing in Britain over the two decades preceding the first accepted estimates of the national audience, which were produced in 1934. It uses the receipts from the tax on entertainments, levied by British governments starting in 1916, to examine the impact of broader developments, from war to major economic downturns, and radical changes within the industry itself with the introduction of sound technology. A significant discontinuity is identified in the emergence of the talking picture, which worked to broaden and deepen support for the cinema, confirming it as the dominant mass entertainment form of the period. Purpose The purpose of this paper is to understand the role played by emotional states in the relationship between entertainment and social interaction with salespeople and shopper satisfaction.Design/methodology/approach The proposed model was tested using a survey-based study, with a sample size of 318 mall shoppers.Findings The results indicate that pleasure and dominance are mediators in the relationship between entertainment and social interaction with salespeople and mall shopper satisfaction. Moreover, regarding the direct relations, entertainment directly influences satisfaction, while social interaction does not.Practical implications The results have practical implications for mall managers and mall developers. Specifically, entertainment can be used to attract shoppers and to enhance their satisfaction with the overall shopping experience. Practical suggestions to this end are offered.Originality/value This study's contribution is twofold: first, this study adds to research by addressing the gap in research regarding shopper emotional states. Specifically, it addresses the mediating role played by emotional states of shoppers on the impact of entertainment and social interaction in satisfaction. Second, the study concentrates on the role of salespeople by focusing on the social aspects of the interaction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Among the different functions forests offer, recreation is increasing in importance to a growing global population. This is at a time when multifunctional forest management can no longer cover its costs solely from the revenue from wood production. The governance of forest recreation is assumed to be different from that of other forest functions but is poorly understood, which limits proper forest management. Meanwhile, conflicting interactions between forest users are increasing. In this paper, we study forest recreation governance with a particular focus on forests in urban areas in developed countries. The paper first identifies key governance challenges for forest recreation and then provides a better understanding of forest recreation governance, focusing on the role of stakeholders and institutions. This is done using the Institutional Analysis and Development framework. We use urban forest areas of Switzerland to illustrate and exemplify the developments in forest recreation and their consequences for forest governance. The study draws on different empirical sources and analysis techniques, including statistical data, focus groups and document analyses. The findings show that six main action situations need to be considered when analysing forest recreation governance. In each action situation, several stakeholders are involved. We argue that understanding the governance of forest recreation is one of the future challenges in forest management and planning, particularly in urban areas. Finally, our study shows that the applied framework is appropriate and useful in analysing the structure and arrangements of forest recreation governance. An exploratory empirical study of visitors' (escapers) experiences of 33 escape rooms in Turkey was conducted using content analysis. A total of 1079 reviews were extracted and used in the analysis. Data were collected from TripAdvisor - a well-known website - that allows guests to share their experiences from all around the world. The findings demonstrate that escape room attractions provide authenticity and flow experiences through the challenging activities and social component of the games. Furthermore, the findings show that visitors enjoy experiencing novelty-seeking (authenticity) and hedonistic experience-seeking (flow) and a feeling of being outside time and place. Automatic solution of rectangular jigsaw puzzles can be broken down into two separate steps of calculating pairwise compatibility metrics and jigsaw assembling algorithm. This work discriminates between two different sources of errors, each corresponding to one of these two steps. In this regard, type I error is defined as the imperfection of the used compatibility metric, and type II error is reserved to measure the imperfection of jigsaw assembling algorithm. Differentiating between these two types of error allows us to tweak and optimize different parts of the algorithm to achieve the best performance. Based upon these defined terms, this study argues that current jigsaw assembling algorithms mainly rely on either greedy methods or metaheuristic algorithms, which may impose a considerable amount of type II error to the final solution. This paper demonstrates that a powerful and perfect (i.e.
, type II error-free) jigsaw assembling algorithm is achievable by combining branch and bound technique with graph theory. This perfect jigsaw assembling algorithm is then utilized to measure the performances of various compatibility metrics and color models. The superiority of red-green-blue (RGB) color model and Mahalanobis gradient compatibility (MGC) metric in solving rectangular jigsaw puzzles is shown by providing conclusive evidence. Additionally, a mean opinion score (MOS) test is conducted to examine the accuracy of the existing metrics. According to the results from MOS test, we argue that the existing performance criteria are not concise and accurate; thus, a new accuracy metric is proposed on the basis of comparing different sub-blocks of solutions. Finally, the efficiency of jigsaw assembling algorithm is measured by proposing a new performance criterion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

We value a sense of humor in people, and amusement is something that we enjoy. So why not enhance and train your ability to be amused? In this paper, I investigate whether our ability to be amused can be trained. I adopt the idea that training a capacity requires improving control. If we cannot improve the control of a capacity, then we cannot train that capacity. I show that we cannot improve the control of our capacity of amusement because of the cognitive process underlying amusement. Hence, you cannot train your funny bone! [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Shakespeare's Julius Caesar is remarkable for its rational mode as manifested in the use of language, style, action as well as its characterization. In this essay, I argue that the play is also striking with its numerous (ir)rational ambiguities. The same Latin word, ratio, is at the root of two words that are often used to explain human behaviors: reason and rationality. The first related ambiguity is organized around the conflict between reason and passion. The other is related to rational choice, which is opposed to the diverse forms of irrationality. This paper argues that Julius Caesar challenges the idea that a rational actor is one who acts only for sufficient reasons, and the play also subverts the conventional understanding of reason and rationality. One criticism of the tourism area lifecycle model is that it treats destinations as homogeneous entities. Instead destinations can be conceptualised as a mosaic of elements, each of which can follow a lifecycle that is different from that of the destination overall. This paper examines this issue with reference to amusement arcades in British seaside resorts and triangulates secondary sources and in-depth interviews to examine the historical evolution of this sector. It argues that the arcade sector has followed a lifecycle trajectory that is independent of the resorts in which they are located. A range of internal/external factors and global, national and local influences have affected the lifecycle of the arcade sector, including global developments in the entertainment industries; the influence of state policies and legislation; and the responses of local entrepreneurs to resort restructuring. The paper ends by arguing that destinations can be conceptualised as 'assemblages' of interacting elements. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

TELEVISION history ,TELEVISION series ,AMUSEMENTS ,TELEVISION dramas ,TELEVISION scripts - Abstract
This article revisits the history of television (TV) formats—concepts of TV shows that are licensed for local adaptations—focusing on scripted entertainment. While the TV format revolution of the 1990s bypassed scripted formats, they have been catching up in recent years. This article analyzes both the reasons for this late rise and the factors behind the recent growth. It argues that the adaptation of scripted formats is more complex, and risks remain higher than for other genres. The underlying economics of their production and distribution also differ from nonscripted formats. The stars aligned when demand for drama increased worldwide, Hollywood studios began to mine their catalogues, new exporters and scripted genres emerged, and knowledge transfer techniques improved. Finally, this paper analyzes the significance of the rise of scripted entertainment in the global TV format trading system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Organizing for idea generation is a recurring challenge in intensive innovation contexts. The literature on ideation has reached a compelling consensus on the features that such organizational devices must possess to support sufficient creativity: learning processes and a creative climate of confidence to promote collaboration. However, current practical methodologies struggle to simultaneously realize these two features. In this paper, we explore the potential of Serious Games, a collaborative tool that has been used since the 1960s to facilitate learning processes through the simulation of reality and a role-playing game, to induce an immersive experience and, more recently, to support the ideation process. To do so, we conducted an exploratory case study using a Serious Game to support ideation in a French medium-sized business. We then assess the strengths and areas for improvement of this Serious Game with respect to an ideation performance framework based on the existing literature. Our findings show that Serious Games are efficient tools for supporting existing knowledge exchange between participants and collaboration by providing a creative climate, but they may not sufficiently support learning of the external knowledge required to attain high levels of originality. Accordingly, we discuss some crucial parameters to be further explored to allow for the effective managerial use of such methodologies, such as the fine-tuning of the knowledge content that serves as a basis for the game. This paper studies the global subjective assessment, obtained from mean values of the results of surveys addressed to members of the audience of live concerts in Spanish auditoriums, through the mean values of the three orthogonal objective parameters (T
mid , IACCE3 , and LEV), expressed in just noticeable differences (JNDs), regarding the best-valued hall. Results show that a linear combination of the relative variations of orthogonal parameters can largely explain the overall perceived quality of the sample. However, the mean values of certain orthogonal parameters are not representative, which shows that an alternative approach to the problem is necessary. Various possibilities are proposed. In this paper, I will present insights that interaction with dancers has given me for my research in neuroscience. I will do this by explaining the different types of neuroscientific questions I work with. I will discuss the interactions I have had with dancers and choreographers, and go into detail with two of these, the dance performance SPLASTIC and the Avatar experiment. Using material from the production of SPLASTIC as examples, I will give an account of how neuroscience and dance can 1) change public awareness of physical disability, 2) provide insight into basic principles in neuroscience, and 3) lead to new ways of understanding human control of actions. The fast growing of on-line multimedia content have created the need to investigate new paradigms and techniques allowing to express how to index, retrieve and explore such contents. Indeed, nowadays, Movie becomes a predominant form of entertainment in human life. Most video websites such as YouTube and a number of social networks allow users to freely assign a rate to watched or bought videos or movies. In this paper, we introduce a movie rating recommendation approach based on the exploitation of the Hidden Markov Model (HMM). Specifically, we extend the HMM to include user's rating profiles, formally represented as triadic concepts. Carried out experiments emphasize the relevance of our proposal and open many thriving issues. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

RACIALIZATION , *VACATION homes , *AMUSEMENTS , *WOMEN on television - Abstract
House Hunters Internationalinvites viewers in the United States to temporarily and vicariously escape their daily lives through the stories of those fellow citizens and the occasional foreign nationals fortunate enough to buy homes abroad, including vacation homes in the tropics. Of course, other people, including viewers with access to the show, actually live their daily lives in those vacation paradises. The actors are presented as seeking an “authentic” experience away from the local population that is often tokenized and seen as static or invisible. In many instances, women and people of color who are a part of the visual landscape represent these places. This paper considers the ways the show frames mobility as entertainment, which ignores the politics of gender, race, and class that enables such mobility in the first place. This article concludes by considering María Lugones’ conceptualization of “traveling worlds” in order to propose a different way to articulate international house hunting. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

BALLET ,ART objects ,DANCERS ,TABOO ,AMUSEMENTS ,BALLET dancing - Abstract
In 1978 dance historian Selma Jeanne Cohen published an essay in Dance Research Journal called "In Search of Satanella." It lamented the loss to the repertoire of a once-popular ballet about demonic love. Cohen asked a series of questions about the ballet's 1840 genesis, reception, and transformation over time. Finding answers requires taking up bigger issues about the ballet canon, ballet taboos lincluding angelic dancers doing devilish things), and ballet reconstruction projects. Perceptions of nineteenth-century Romantic ballet rest primarily on its sturdier, hardier creations, much less so the looser assemblages, the bric-a-brac entertainments intended for diverse audiences. To search for Satanilla is to find more than just this one ballet. It is to discover an entire realm of the repertoire. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

INFERENCE (Logic) ,PUZZLES ,THOUGHT & thinking ,PHILOSOPHY ,AMUSEMENTS - Abstract
On the traditional relationalist conception of singular thought, a thought has singular content when it is based on an 'information relation' to its object. Recent work rejects relationalism and suggests that singular thoughts are distinguished from descriptive thoughts by their inferential role: only thoughts with singular content can be employed in 'direct' inferences, or in inferences that 'trade on identity'. First, this view is insufficiently clear, because it conflates two distinct ideas—one about a kind of inference, the other about a kind of process that grounds inferences—under the title, 'trading on identity'. Second, this leaves us without a notion that can be used as an alternative to relationalism about singular thought. The first notion is no more applicable to singular than to descriptive thought. The second might help us to better understand singular thought. However, it does so, not by replacing the view that singular thoughts are information-based, but by helping us to understand the nature of information-based thought. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
