We present a procedure which enables the computation and the description of structures of isotropy subgroups of the group of complex orthogonal matrices with respect to the action of *congruence on Hermitian matrices. Eigenvalue decomposition of quaternion Hermitian matrices is a crucial mathematical tool for color image reconstruction and recognition. Quaternion Jacobi method is one of the classical methods to compute the eigenvalues of a quaternion Hermitian matrix. Using quaternion Jacobi rotations, this paper brings forward an innovative method for the eigenvalue decomposition of dual quaternion Hermitian matrices. The effectiveness of the proposed method is confirmed through numerical experiments. Furthermore, a dual complex matrix representation for the color image is developed, and the dual quaternion Jacobi method is applied to the eigenvalue problems of dual complex Hermitian matrices. This approach achieves successful results in the color images reconstruction and recognition. Compared to the quaternion matrix representation of the color image, this approach makes computations more convenient when dealing with problems related to color image processing. Purpose – The author studies forms over finite fields obtained as the determinant of Hermitian matrices and use these determinatal forms to define and study the base polynomial of a square matrix over a finite field. Design/methodology/approach – The authors give full proofs for the new results, quoting previous works by other authors in the proofs. In the introduction, the authors quoted related references. Findings – The authors get a few theorems, mainly describing some monic polynomial arising as a base polynomial of a square matrix. In the field of radar target detection, the conventional approach is to employ the range profile energy accumulation method for detecting extended targets. However, this method becomes ineffective when dealing with non-stationary and non-uniform radar clutter scenarios, as well as long-distance targets with weak radar cross sections (RCSs). In such cases, the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the target echo is severely degraded, rendering the energy accumulation detection algorithm unreliable. To address this issue, this paper presents a new extended target detection method based on the maximum eigenvalue of the Hermitian matrix. This method utilizes a detection model that incorporates observed data and employs the likelihood ratio test (LRT) theory to derive the maximum eigenvalue detector at low SNR. Specifically, the detector constructs a matrix using a sliding window block with the available data and then computes the maximum eigenvalue of the covariance matrix. Subsequently, the maximum eigenvalue matrix is transformed into a one-dimensional eigenvalue image, enabling extended target detection through analogy with the energy accumulation detection method. Furthermore, this paper analyzes the proposed extended target detection method from both theoretical and experimental perspectives, validating it through field-measured data. The results obtained from the measured data demonstrate that the method effectively enhances the SNR in low SNR conditions, thereby improving target detection performance. In this paper, the octonion matrix equation A X B = C is studied based on semi-tensor product of matrices. Firstly, we propose the left real element representation and the right real element representation of octonion. Then we obtain the expression of the least squares Hermitian solution to the octonion matrix equation A X B = C by combining these representations with H -representation of the special matrices. In addition, we also put forward the equivalent condition of existence and general expression of the Hermitian solution to the octonion matrix equation A X B = C. Summary: The hybrid precoding problem is considered a Frobenius norm reduction problem for the narrowband channel in a millimeter wave (mmWave) with multiple inputs and outputs (mmWave MIMO). This work proposes a hybrid distributed online and alternating convex optimization (HDO‐ACO) algorithm to improve hybrid precoding (HP), interpreted as a trace minimization problem. HDO‐ACO alternately determines the digital and analog precoders to reduce the trace by keeping the other constant. Initially, HDO‐ACO uses Lagrange's method to determine the digital precoding subproblem. Then, it uses the integrated distributed online convex optimization and alternating minimization algorithm in the analog precoder design. In the HP method, the digital and analog precoders are iteratively updated until the highest number of iterations or convergence is reached. But this hybrid precoding method requires an initial analog precoding matrix input to begin the iteration. The algorithms converge gradually and fall into a suboptimal solution when the initial analog precoding matrix is set randomly. Hence, an initial value acceleration‐based heuristic approach is used in the HDO‐ACO alternating minimization algorithm that calculates the initial feasible value of an alternating minimization method using channel conditions. The simulation results of the proposed HDO‐ACO algorithm are presented under bit error rate (BER), spectral efficiency (SE), and convergence behavior by comparing it with modified block coordinate descent–HP (MBCD‐HP), manifold optimization–alternating minimization (MO‐AltMin), and semi‐definite relaxation‐based alternating optimization (SDR‐AO). Matrix permanents are hard to compute or even estimate in general. It had been previously suggested that the permanents of Positive Semidefinite (PSD) matrices may have efficient approximations. By relating PSD permanents to a task in quantum state tomography, we show that PSD permanents are NP-hard to approximate within a constant factor, and so admit no polynomial-time approximation scheme (unless P = NP). We also establish that several natural tasks in quantum state tomography, even approximately, are NP-hard in the dimension of the Hilbert space. This paper investigates the interplay between the algebraic properties of the rings, the combinatorial properties of their corresponding zero-divisor graphs, and the associated Hermitian matrix of such graphs. For a finite ring R, its zero-divisor graph may contain both directed edges and undirected edges; such graphs are called mixed graphs. The Hermitian matrices of mixed graphs are natural generalizations of the adjacency matrices of undirected graphs. In this paper, we completely determine the structure and the Hermitian eigenvalues of the zero-divisor graph Γ (D × R) by using the structure and the Hermitian eigenvalues of the zero-divisor graph Γ (R) . For any simple connected graph G of order n, having eigen spectrum μ 1 ≥ μ 2 ≥ ⋯ ≥ μ n with middle eigenvalues μ H and μ L, where H = ⌊(n + 1)/2⌋ and L = ⌈(n + 1)/2⌉, the HOMO–LUMO gap is defined as as ΔG = μ H = μ L. In this article, a simple upper bound for the HOMO–LUMO gap corresponding to a special class of connected bipartite graphs is estimated. As an application, the upper bounds for the HOMO–LUMO gap of certain classes of nanotubes and nanotori are estimated.

We introduce the concept of the almost-companion matrix (ACM) by relaxing the non-derogatory property of the standard companion matrix (CM). That is, we define an ACM as a matrix whose characteristic polynomial coincides with a given monic and generally complex polynomial. The greater flexibility inherent in the ACM concept, compared to CM, allows the construction of ACMs that have convenient matrix structures satisfying desired additional conditions, compatibly with specific properties of the polynomial coefficients. We demonstrate the construction of Hermitian and unitary ACMs starting from appropriate third-degree polynomials, with implications for their use in physical-mathematical problems, such as the parameterization of the Hamiltonian, density, or evolution matrix of a qutrit. We show that the ACM provides a means of identifying the properties of a given polynomial and finding its roots. For example, we describe the ACM-based solution of cubic complex algebraic equations without resorting to the use of the Cardano-Dal Ferro formulas. We also show the necessary and sufficient conditions on the coefficients of a polynomial for it to represent the characteristic polynomial of a unitary ACM. We study real bihomogeneous polynomials r(z,\bar {z}) in n complex variables for which r(z,\bar {z}) \left \lVert {z} \right \rVert ^2 is the squared norm of a holomorphic polynomial mapping. Such polynomials are the focus of the Sum of Squares Conjecture, which describes the possible ranks for the squared norm r(z,\bar {z}) \left \lVert {z} \right \rVert ^2 and has important implications for the study of proper holomorphic mappings between balls in complex Euclidean spaces of different dimension. Questions about the possible signatures for r(z,\bar {z}) and the rank of r(z,\bar {z}) \left \lVert {z} \right \rVert ^2 can be reformulated as questions about polynomial ideals. We present a characterization of eigenvalue inequalities between two Hermitian matrices by means of inertia indices. As applications, we deal with some classical eigenvalue inequalities for Hermitian matrices, including the Cauchy interlacing theorem and the Weyl inequality, in a simple and unified approach. We also give a common generalization of eigenvalue inequalities for (Hermitian) normalized Laplacian matrices of simple (signed, weighted, directed) graphs. The receiver's architecture is always a critical issue in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems, as it has a great impact on the system's performance and complexity. Accordingly, in this paper, a spectral decomposition-based minimum mean squared error (MMSE) receiver is proposed in an uplink multi-user MIMO (MU-MIMO) system with a full-duplex decode and forward relay. Imperfect channel state information is assumed at the relay and base station where, least-squares channel estimation technique is applied due to its simplicity and low complexity. An equivalent relay is applied for self-interference cancellation. While, multi-user interference is mitigated by using the block diagonalization concept. A closed-form expression for the mean squared error (MSE) of the estimated data symbol is derived in the presence of channel estimation error. Moreover, an optimization problem is solved to derive an expression for the proposed MMSE receiver's matrix. Finally, the performance of the proposed receiver is compared to that of the conventional receiver and Zero-forcing (ZF) receiver. In this paper, we determine the underlying graphs of the mixed graphs with smallest Hermitian eigenvalue greater than − 3. Furthermore, we characterize all mixed graphs on n ≥ 11 vertices with smallest Hermitian eigenvalue greater than − 3. The mixed graphs on n ≤ 10 vertices with smallest Hermitian eigenvalue greater than − 3 could be also obtained easily with the help of computer because their underlying graphs are determined. Hermitian matrices have played an important role in matrix theory and complex quadratic optimization. The high-order generalization of Hermitian matrices, conjugate partial-symmetric (CPS) tensors, have shown growing interest recently in tensor theory and computation, particularly in application-driven complex polynomial optimization problems. In this paper, we study CPS tensors with a focus on ranks, computing rank-one decompositions and approximations, as well as their applications. We prove constructively that any CPS tensor can be decomposed into a sum of rank-one CPS tensors, which provides an explicit method to compute such rank-one decompositions. Three types of ranks for CPS tensors are defined and shown to be different in general. This leads to the invalidity of the conjugate version of Comon's conjecture. We then study rank-one approximations and matricizations of CPS tensors. By carefully unfolding CPS tensors to Hermitian matrices, rank-one equivalence can be preserved. This enables us to develop new convex optimization models and algorithms to compute best rank-one approximations of CPS tensors. We investigate the change in the multiplicities of an eigenvalue of an Hermitian matrix whose graph is a general undirected graph, when an edge is removed from the graph. The same question when the graph is a tree has been investigated in prior work. Here, we give possible classifications of edges in a general graph in terms of the statuses of adjacent vertices. In the block version of the classical two-sided Jacobi method for the Hermitian eigenvalue problem, the off-diagonal elements of iterated matrix A (k) converge to zero. However, this fact alone does not necessarily guarantee that A (k) converges to a fixed diagonal matrix. The same is true for the matrix of accumulated unitary transformations Q (k). We prove that under certain assumptions A (k) indeed converges to a fixed diagonal matrix, whose diagonal elements are the eigenvalues of the input matrix A. Next it is shown that for a simple eigenvalue the corresponding column of Q (k) converges to the corresponding eigenvector. For a multiple eigenvalue or a cluster of eigenvalues, we prove that the orthogonal projectors constructed from the corresponding columns of Q (k) converge to the orthogonal projector onto the eigenspace corresponding to those eigenvalues. Inspired by the work of Zhou (Des Codes Cryptogr 88:841–850, 2020) based on the paper of Schmidt (J Algebraic Combin 42(2):635–670, 2015), we investigate the equivalence issue of maximum d-codes of Hermitian matrices. More precisely, in the space H n (q 2) of Hermitian matrices over F q 2 we have two possible equivalences: the classical one coming from the maps that preserve the rank in F q 2 n × n , and the one that comes from restricting to those maps preserving both the rank and the space H n (q 2) . We prove that when d < n and the codes considered are maximum additive d-codes and (n - d) -designs, these two equivalence relations coincide. As a consequence, we get that the idealisers of such codes are not distinguishers, unlike what usually happens for rank metric codes. Finally, we deal with the combinatorial properties of known maximum Hermitian codes and, by means of this investigation, we present a new family of maximum Hermitian 2-code, extending the construction presented by Longobardi et al. In control engineering, numerical stability and real time are the two most important requirements for the matrix inversion. This article presents an efficient and robust method for the field-programmable gate array (FPGA) calculation of the matrix inversion. We initially consider the scenario that the matrix to be processed is a nonsingular Hermitian matrix. The proposed computation procedures are composed of the matrix decomposition, triangular matrix inversion, and matrices multiplication. The first procedure is completed by LDL factorization based on the outer form of Cholesky's method, whereas the recursive algorithm for block submatrices is adopted to achieve the triangular matrix inversion. The new method has the high level in the parallel pipelining mechanism and steals the characteristics of both the upper triangular matrix and its inversion to reduce the computation load and improve the numerical stability. Furthermore, the non-Hermitian matrix inversion can be easily solved if another procedure is added in the new method. Finally, we compare our method with the exiting FPGA-based techniques on one Xilinx Virtex-7 XC7VX690T FPGA. We present verification methods to compute error bounds for all eigenvectors of a Hermitian matrix as well as for all singular vectors of a rectangular real or complex matrix. In case of clusters these are bounds for an orthonormal basis of the invariant subspace or singular vector space, respectively. Individual error bounds for all eigenvalues and singular values including clustered and/or multiple ones are computed as well. The computed bounds do contain the true result with mathematical certainty, and the algorithms apply to interval data as well. In that case the computed bounds are true for every real/complex matrix within the tolerances. The computational complexity to compute inclusions of all eigen/singular pairs of an n × n matrix or m × n matrix is O (n 3) or O (m n 2) operations, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A thick-restart Lanczos type algorithm is proposed for Hermitian J-symmetric matrices. Since Hermitian J-symmetric matrices possess doubly degenerate spectra or doubly multiple eigenvalues with a simple relation between the degenerate eigenvectors, we can improve the convergence of the Lanczos algorithm by restricting the search space of the Krylov subspace to that spanned by one of each pair of the degenerate eigenvector pairs. We show that the Lanczos iteration is compatible with the J-symmetry, so that the subspace can be split into two subspaces that are orthogonal to each other. The proposed algorithm searches for eigenvectors in one of the two subspaces without the multiplicity. The other eigenvectors paired to them can be easily reconstructed with the simple relation from the J-symmetry. The main goal of this paper is to prove the following determinantal inequality: det ⁡ (A k + | B s 2 A s 2 | 2 t s ) ≤ det ⁡ (A k + A t B t) ≤ det ⁡ (A k + | A s 2 B s 2 | 2 t s ) for any positive semi-definite matrices A and B , and for all 0 ≤ t ≤ s ≤ k. It generalizes several known determinantal inequalities, and one main consequence of it confirms Lin's conjecture which states that for positive semi-definite matrices A and B , det ⁡ (A 2 + A t B t) ≤ det ⁡ (A 2 + | A B | t) for 0 ≤ t ≤ 2. A novel relation between the Moore-Penrose inverses of two nullity-1 n × n Hermitian matrices which share a common null eigenvector is established, and its application in electrical networks is illustrated by applying the result to Laplacian matrices of graphs.
