Protecting the environment and climate change are the main talking points in the modern world. This leads to increasing political involvement in the matter. This circumstance, as well as changing macroeconomic parameters, are the background to the investigation undertaken in this paper. The main objective of the paper is to evaluate the impact of value drivers on company value and the relationship between them. Based on the research questions, an identification and quantification of internal drivers of company value constitutes the first step. Analysis 1 is done by means of a multiple linear regression analysis. In the second step, these examined internal drivers are used in an investigation to verify and quantify the influence of external drivers (GDP, environmental tax and the Fraser index). Analysis 2 is done via a specific structural equation model (path analysis). Data in this paper are drawn from selected industrial sectors (metal, paper, and chemical) of three European countries (France, Germany, and Italy) within the period of 2006-2015. The findings show that size and profit margin are the most relevant internal drivers. GDP is the most relevant external driver with an impact on internal drivers. GDP always has a positive impact on added value. The results also indicate that the impact of GDP is higher in periods of economic crisis. Background: One of the most consistent findings reported in the paediatric cochlear implant (CI) literature is the heterogeneity of language performance observed more in grammatical morphology than in lexicon or pragmatics. As most of the corpus studies addressing these issues have been conducted in English, it is unclear whether their results can be generalized to other languages. In particular, little is known about languages known for their grammatical complexity, such as French. Aims: The aim of this corpus study was to compare the productive use of function words (FWs) and some agreement features (AGRs) in children with CIs and children with typical development (TD) matched for mean length of utterance in words (MLUwords), a general index of grammatical complexity, and auditory experience, as measured by hearing age (HA) and chronological age (CA), respectively. Methods & Procedures: Natural speech samples from 116 monolingual French‐speaking children, including 40 children with CIs followed longitudinally and 76 TD children, were collected. FWs and AGRs were analysed using a Part of Speech Tagger (POS‐T) from the Child Language Data Exchange System (CHILDES). Outcomes & Results: The two groups differed by 3 years for HA and CA. No effect of family socio‐economic status (SES) was found in the CI group. Stepwise regression analyses showed that the two groups did not share the same predictors of MLUwords: plurals and determiners predicted MLUwords in children with CIs, at 2 and 3 years of HA, whereas feminine markers and subject‐pronouns were found to best predict MLUwords in TD children at 2 and 3 years of CA. Structural equation models (SEMs), a combination of confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and path analysis, yielded a different hierarchical structure of grammatical relations (GRs). Selective difficulties affecting verbal clitics and other pronominal forms were found specifically in the CI group (object‐pronouns, reflexive, relative and past participles). Dependency grammar analysis confirmed these contrasting developmental profiles in multiword utterances, such as preposition/nouns, subject/verbs, and verb/determiner/nouns. Conclusions & Implications: Atypical grammatical patterns in children with CIs reflect a specific architecture of syntactic dependencies of FWs underpinning morphological complexity and syntactic connectivity. Clinical implications are discussed for assessment and intervention planning. What This Paper Adds: What is already known on this subject: The productive use of FWs has been identified as a particular area of weakness in children with CIs compared with TD children. In addition, heterogenous grammatical performance has often been found after 1–3 years of CI use, regardless of demographic factors such as age at implantation, duration of deafness or SES. What this paper adds to existing knowledge: Assessing the early building of FWs and AGRs in children with CIs helps to understand the syntactic complexity and hierarchical structure of their language. Since most corpus studies on grammatical morphology have been conducted in English, it is not clear whether their difficulties can be generalized to other languages. The French language has a system of FWs and inflections that determine the morphophonological properties of nominal and verbal forms. Early grammar learning in children with CIs born with profound deafness were compared with the two groups of TD children matched both for duration of auditory experience (i.e., HA of CI children, CA of TD children) and for MLUwords. We found a similar profile between groups at 2 years but not at 3 years for HA and CA. The two groups do not share the same predictors of MLUwords: namely, plurals and determiners for CI children versus feminine markers and subject pronouns for TD children. They show a different syntactic organization of GRs. Children with CIs struggle with selective difficulties affecting verbal clitics and pronominal forms (object‐pronouns, reflexive, relative and past participles). Consistent with theories of morphophonological richness and syntactic connectivity, our results support the distributional learning hypothesis of language acquisition that infants and toddlers are sensitive to FWs and AGRs at an early age. Specific components of syntactic organization are disrupted in children with CIs. Research to date has shown that HIV infection is a highly stressful experience for individuals, and one of the key adaptive resources after such painful experiences may be forgiveness. The aim of the present study was to examine the associations between dispositional forgiveness (assessed using Mullet's Forgivingness Questionnaire and Toussaint's Forgiveness Scale), perceived stress (single-item measure of stress symptoms), health perception (EuroQol visual analogue version of the scale) and life satisfaction (Satisfaction With Life Scale) in people living with HIV (PLWH) in France. Paper surveys were completed by 222 PLWH aged 18–78 (57% male). Multiple regression analysis revealed that sensitivity to circumstances, unconditional forgiveness, self-forgiveness, and forgiveness of others were significant predictors of health and happiness. Mediation analysis showed that these relationships are completely mediated by perceived stress. The present findings suggest that forgiveness and perceived stress may be important variables for healing in PLWH. Interventions designed to improve forgiveness and self-forgiveness may result in improved health and life satisfaction in PLWH. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Emergency departments (EDs) have a key role in the public health system. They are facing a constant growth of their volume. Forecasting the daily volume is a major tool to adapt the allocation of resources. In this paper, we focus on pediatric EDs. They are specific by their strong seasonal variation, determined by the academic pace. The main contribution of this paper is to integrate the effects of this pace to the annual seasonality. We also tried out to improve the daily forecasting by forecasting the week means of the flow first. We trained and tested these models specifically on the pediatric EDs of Paris university hospital trust. For the eight pediatric EDs gathered, on average for the years 2016 to 2019, we forecasted the daily volume with a Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) of 6.6% for a 7-days forecasting, 7.1% for a 14-days forecasting and 7.6% for a 28-days forecasting. Account of rhythm allows a performance increase, with results respectively 7%, 10.1% and 8.4% better relatively to a baseline model based on a periodic regression on the weeks. This paper investigates the influence of climate on the transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in France. Ordinary, time-varying, and threshold regressions of the number of cases and deaths are run on weather and government variables. The main findings support the role of climate in Covid-19 spread. The results reveal that a rise in temperatures is negatively associated with reported deaths, while an increase in relative humidity or wind and a decrease in precipitations are negatively associated with confirmed cases. Elevated nitrate from human activity causes ecosystem and economic harm globally. The factors that control the spatiotemporal dynamics of riverine nitrate concentration remain difficult to describe and predict. We analyzed nitrate concentration from 4450 sites throughout France to group sites that exhibit similar trend and seasonal behaviors during 2010–2017 and relate these dynamics to catchment characteristics. We employed a latent-variable, Bayesian mixture of harmonic regressions model to infer site clustering based on multi-year trend and annual cycle amplitude and phase. We examined clustering patterns and relationships among nitrate level, trend, and seasonality parameters. Cluster membership probabilities were governed by continuous, latent variables that were informed with seven classes of covariates encompassing geology, hydrology, and land use. To relate interpretable parameters to the covariates, we modeled amplitude and phase separately in a novel framework employing a bivariate phase regression with the projected normal distribution. The analysis identified regional regimes of nitrate dynamics, including trend classifications. This approach can reveal general patterns that transcend small-scale heterogeneity, complementing site-level assessments to inform regional- to national-level progress in water quality. There is some indication that discrimination as well as low levels of life satisfaction render young people at risk of cyberhate victimization. Adopting a socio-ecological perspective, this paper examines whether supportive family, peer and school environments may buffer against the effects of perceived discrimination and low life satisfaction on cyberhate victimization. Data from four countries (N = 3396) of the EU Kids Online IV survey on children aged 11–17 (51% girls) revealed a positive association between perceived discrimination and cyberhate victimization, but this impact was moderated by supportive family and peer environments. A negative association between life satisfaction and cyberhate victimization was mitigated by peer support. However, no associations with the school context were found. The current study provides new insights on how social support on different levels of the social environment may buffer against potential risk factors for cyberhate victimization and can inform decision-makers towards intervention and prevention strategies. This study sheds light on the perception of corporate environmental management (CEM) in the lending business from the lenders' perspective. The importance of the implementation of the CEM practices of borrowing companies indicated by bank managers is used to measure the bank managers' perceptions of CEM in lending decisions. In addition, this paper examines the influence of institutional motivations – coercive, mimetic and normative – on the perception of CEM. A survey was conducted among 110 bank managers in France and Luxembourg in 2019. Through factor analysis and regression modeling, we found that banks' CEM requirements for borrowing firms are mainly determined by pressure-type motivations, such as coercive and mimetic, rather than benefit-type motivations, such as financial and reputational. Our results offer new insights into how bank managers perceive the importance of CEM in lending decision-making and explain the perceptions that have been less studied in the existing literature. Various types of anti‐immigrant sentiments have been taken as the characteristic independent variable to explain specific support for radical right parties. However, some survey respondents tend to conceal their attitudes towards socially sensitive issues. To overcome this challenge, the present study used a list experiment method (item count technique) to reveal respondents' covert attitudes towards immigrants (and compared these with overt expressions) based on party support in France. Results indicated similar levels of anti‐immigrant sentiments among radical right National Front supporters and other centre‐rightist parties. In addition, comparison with the direct question method revealed that while supporters of centre‐right parties were reluctant to express their anti‐immigrant sentiment in overt expressions, National Front supporters willingly expressed it overtly more than in covert expressions. This paper assesses the impact of eligibility for a free means-tested complementary health insurance plan, called Couverture Maladie Universelle Complémentaire (CMUC), on doctor visits. We use information on the selection rule to qualify for the plan to identify the effect of eligibility and adopt a regression discontinuity approach. Our sample consists of low-income individuals enrolled in the Health Insurance Fund and recipients of social benefits from the Family Allowance Fund of an urban area in Northern France. Our findings do not show significant impacts of the CMUC threshold on the number of doctor visits within the full sample. Among the subsample of adults under 30 years old, however, eligible individuals are more likely to see a specialist and have, on average, significantly more specialist visits than non-eligible individuals. This specific impact of the CMUC cut-off point among young adults may be explained by the fact that young adults are less likely to be covered by a complementary health insurance plan when they are not recipients of the CMUC plan. © 2017 The Authors. The aim of this paper is to analyse the role played by knowledge spillovers in the firm productivity of two European countries, namely France and Italy. A quantile regression approach has been used to investigate the spillovers-productivity nexus across countries and quantiles. Moreover, in order to distinguish between the different sources of knowledge spillovers, a distinction is made between R&D spillovers from firms in the same sector and geographical region, same sector but different regions and the same geographical area but different sectors. Accurate estimation of wind power curves using field data is instrumental to several wind farm operations including productivity assessment, power output estimation, operations and maintenance, among others. Existing methods for estimating wind power curves mainly rely on environmental variables (e.g., wind speed, direction, density) as inputs to construct the wind-to-power relationship. This paper attempts to integrate yaw misalignment as an additional input to power curve models, constructing what is referred to hereinafter as "yaw-adjusted wind power curves." Our analysis shows that integrating yaw misalignment into power curves is non-trivial, largely due to the overwhelming impact of environmental variables (mainly wind speed) on a turbine's power output, which obscures the secondary effect of yaw errors on power production. In response, we propose a local-regression-based method which reconstructs the yaw-to-power relationship conditional on an effective neighborhood of environmental variables. Tested on operational data from two onshore wind turbines in France, our proposed approach achieves significant improvements, in terms of power estimation accuracy, relative to a set of prevalent statistical- and machine-learning-based power curve models. • A local regression approach is proposed for yaw-adjusted wind power curve modeling. • Yaw-to-power relation is locally learnt conditional on a set of environmental factors. • Tested on actual data, large gains in power curve estimation accuracy are achieved. Why are some countries characterized by more income redistribution than others? Based mainly on Trans‐Atlantic comparisons, the literature has referred to dissimilarities in preferences for redistribution. In this article, we extend this literature by focusing on multiple dimensions of redistributive preferences and adding Japan to the comparison. More precisely, using data for France, the US, and Japan from ISSP 2009, we apply cross‐sectional regression models and the Blinder–Oaxaca decomposition technique to address two distinct questions about preferences for redistribution—the role of government in reducing income gaps and tax progressivity. We find that each of these dimensions are related to different mechanisms: i.e. one depends more on individuals' specific situations, such as income/wealth and social beliefs, as stressed in the literature, whereas the other depends more on an unobservable but common factor within a country, such as the historical and cultural background of each society. This paper introduces a new spatial scan statistic designed to adjust cluster detection for longitudinal confounding factors indexed in space. The functional-model-adjusted statistic was developed using generalized functional linear models in which longitudinal confounding factors were considered to be functional covariates. A general framework was developed for application to various probability models. Application to a Poisson model showed that the new method is equivalent to a conventional spatial scan statistic that adjusts the underlying population for covariates. In a simulation study with single and multiple covariate models, we found that our new method adjusts the cluster detection procedure more accurately than other methods. Use of the new spatial scan statistic was illustrated by analyzing data on premature mortality in France over the period from 1998 to 2013, with the quarterly unemployment rate as a longitudinal confounding factor. The hold phase of the stop consonants is crucial for a successful production of the release and the acoustic burst. Concurrently, it is also associated with weak acoustic energy and minimal movement, so that conventional acoustic and kinematic approaches are not relevant to investigate motor control. This paper presents an innovative experimental method to study speech motor control during this phase, based on meticulous measurement of the time variation of the mechanical pressure exerted by the tongue against the palate and also characterizing tongue–palate interaction. The concept is based on using miniature transducers with enhanced response characteristics inserted in different locations of the complete denture of edentulous subjects without perturbing the articulation. The study was done with a French-speaking adult whose maxillary denture was duplicated and mounted with six strain gauge transducers. The experiment was done with denti-alveolar and velar stop consonants with two vowel contexts. Background: Evidence for the management of pregnant women with acute hypoxaemic respiratory failure (AHRF) is currently lacking. The likelihood of avoiding intubation and the risks of continuing the pregnancy under invasive ventilation remain undetermined. We report the management and outcome of pregnant women with pneumonia related to SARS-CoV-2 admitted to the ICU of tertiary maternity hospitals of the Paris area. Methods: We studied a retrospective cohort of pregnant women admitted to 15 ICUs with AHRF related to SARS-CoV-2 defined by the need for O2 ≥ 6 L/min, high-flow nasal oxygen (HFNO), non-invasive or invasive ventilation. Trajectories were assessed to determine the need for intubation and the possibility of continuing the pregnancy on invasive ventilation. Results: One hundred and seven pregnant women, 34 (IQR: 30–38) years old, at a gestational age of 27 (IQR: 25–30) weeks were included. Obesity was present in 37/107. Intubation was required in 47/107 (44%). Intubation rate according to respiratory support was 14/19 (74%) for standard O2, 17/36 (47%) for non-invasive ventilation and 16/52 (31%) for HFNO. Factors significantly associated with intubation were pulmonary co-infection: adjusted OR: 3.38 (95% CI 1.31–9.21), HFNO: 0.11 (0.02–0.41) and non-invasive ventilation: 0.20 (0.04–0.80). Forty-six (43%) women were delivered during ICU stay, 39/46 (85%) for maternal pulmonary worsening, 41/46 (89%) at a preterm stage. Fourteen non-intubated women were delivered under regional anaesthesia; 9/14 ultimately required emergency intubation. Four different trajectories were identified: 19 women were delivered within 2 days after ICU admission while not intubated (12 required prolonged intubation), 23 women were delivered within 2 days after intubation, in 11 intubated women pregnancy was continued allowing delivery after ICU discharge in 8/11, 54 women were never intubated (53 were delivered after discharge). Timing of delivery after intubation was mainly dictated by gestational age. One maternal death and one foetal death were recorded. Conclusion: In pregnant women with AHRF related to SARS-CoV-2, HFNO and non-invasive mechanical ventilation were associated with a reduced rate of intubation, while pulmonary co-infection was associated with an increased rate. The capacity of particulate matter (PM) to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) in vivo leading to oxidative stress is thought to be a main pathway in the health effects of PM inhalation. Exogenous ROS from PM can be assessed by acellular oxidative potential (OP) measurements as a proxy of the induction of oxidative stress in the lungs. Here, we investigate the importance of OP apportionment methods for OP distribution by PM 10 sources in different types of environments. PM 10 sources derived from receptor models (e.g., EPA positive matrix factorization (EPA PMF)) are coupled with regression models expressing the associations between PM 10 sources and PM 10 OP measured by ascorbic acid (OP AA) and dithiothreitol assay (OP DTT). These relationships are compared for eight regression techniques: ordinary least squares, weighted least squares, positive least squares, Ridge, Lasso, generalized linear model, random forest, and multilayer perceptron. The models are evaluated on 1 year of PM 10 samples and chemical analyses at each of six sites of different typologies in France to assess the possible impact of PM source variability on PM 10 OP apportionment. PM 10 source-specific OP DTT and OP AA and out-of-sample apportionment accuracy vary substantially by model, highlighting the importance of model selection according to the datasets. Background: Although the poultry sector accounts for a major portion of global antimicrobial consumption, few studies have explored the factors which influence antimicrobial use (AMU) in poultry farms in Europe. We performed a matched case-control study in traditional free-range broiler farms in France during 2016 to evaluate the effect of technical factors and farmers' perceptions of health problems on the probability of AMU. In total, 52 cases (defined as flocks treated with antimicrobials when chickens were between 1 and 42 days old), were included. Another 208 controls (untreated flocks the same ages as the case flocks), were randomly selected and paired with a matching case (same farmer organization and placement date). On-farm questionnaires were administered. Multivariable logistic regression modeling was conducted; seven variables were significant in the final model. Results: Two factors were associated with a lower probability of AMU: the use of chicken paper topped with starter feed (OR = 0.3; 95% CI = [0.1; 0.9]) and the use of herbal drugs as a prophylaxis (OR = 0.1; 95% CI = [0.01; 0.5]). A higher probability of AMU was associated with farmers perceiving the cumulative mortality of chicks between 1 and 10 days old as normal (OR = 10.1; 95% CI = [1.7; 59]) or high (OR = 58.7; 95% CI = [9.6; 372.3]). A higher probability of AMU also was associated with farmers detecting a health problem (OR = 12.5, 95% CI = [4.2; 36.9]) and phone calls between farmers and their technicians (OR = 5.9; 95% CI = [2.3; 14.8]) when chicks are between 11 to 42 days old. Two additional factors (litter thickness and cleaning/disinfecting) were significant and highlighted the importance of technical factors such as biosecurity. Conclusions: Our results suggest that to reduce AMU, technical training should be provided to farmers to improve how farms are monitored and to reinforce preventive health measures. Information seeking (IS) has become a critical activity in video‐based environments. Up to now, the effects of support on information seeking (i.e., scaffolding) have seldom been assessed. The twofold aim of the current study was to (a) assess the effects of scaffolding on IS in videos and (b) determine the characteristics of the users' mental models after an IS activity with or without scaffolding. We divided 50 participants into two groups that either did or did not benefit from initial scaffolding during an IS task. Both groups then had to perform a localization task without any further access to scaffolding. Results showed that scaffolding the video by providing a table of contents and markers on a timeline helped students to engage in highly efficient IS, but they had less accurate mental representations of the video than those without scaffolding. The hypothesis that scaffolding provides a usable but external model was therefore supported. Background: The incidence, causes and impact of diaphragm thickness evolution in veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) for cardiogenic shock are unknown. Our study investigates its evolution during the first week of VA-ECMO and its relationship with sweep gas flow settings. Methods: We conducted a prospective monocentric observational study in a 12-bed ICU in France, enrolling patients on the day of the VA-ECMO implantation. The diaphragm thickness and the diaphragm thickening fraction (as index of contractile activity, dTF; dTF < 20% defined a low contractile activity) were daily measured for one week using ultrasound. Factors associated with diaphragm thickness evolution (categorized as increased, stable, or atrophic based on > 10% modification from baseline to the last measurement), early extubation role (< day4), and patients outcome at 60 days were investigated. Changes in diaphragm thickness, the primary endpoint, was analysed using a mixed-effect linear model (MLM). Results: Of the 29 included patients, seven (23%) presented diaphragm atrophy, 18 remained stable (60%) and 4 exhibited an increase (17%). None of the 13 early-extubated patients experienced diaphragm atrophy, while 7 (46%) presented a decrease when extubated later (p-value = 0.008). Diaphragm thickness changes were not associated with the dTF (p-value = 0.13) but with sweep gas flow (Beta = − 3; Confidence Interval at 95% (CI) [− 4.8; − 1.2]. p-value = 0.001) and pH (Beta = − 2; CI [− 2.9; − 1]. p-value < 0.001) in MLM. The dTF remained low (< 20%) in 20 patients (69%) at the study's end and was associated with sweep gas flow evolution in MLM (Beta = − 2.8; 95% CI [− 5.2; − 0.5], p-value = 0.017). Odds ratio of death at 60 days in case of diaphragm atrophy by day 7 was 8.50 ([1.4–74], p = 0.029). Conclusion: In our study, diaphragm thickness evolution was frequent and not associated with the diaphragm thickening fraction. Diaphragm was preserved from atrophy in case of early extubation with ongoing VA-ECMO assistance. Metabolic disorders resulting from organ failures and sweep gas flow were linked with diaphragm thickness evolution. Preserved diaphragm thickness in VA-ECMO survivors emphasizes the importance of diaphragm-protective strategies, including meticulous sweep gas flow titration. The diaphragm thickness increased with the sweep gas flow and decreased with the acidosis. Diaphragm thickness evolution did not evolve parallel to the diaphragm thickening fraction. Meaning: In VA-ECMO-treated patients, we advocate for diaphragmatic-protective strategies through the careful titration of sweep gas flows, tight pH control, and the promotion of early extubation. Flashbulb memories are vivid autobiographical memories of the circumstances where an individual first learns about emotionally significant public events. Our paper assesses whether these memories were triggered by the attacks of Friday 13 November 2015 in Paris. Two hundred and ninety-one participants answered a web-based questionnaire that assessed their memory of the circumstances in which they first learned of the attacks. The questionnaire also assessed vividness, rehearsal, emotion, surprise and novelty. The results showed substantial and vivid recall of the context in which the participants first learned of the event. This recall was associated with fair rehearsal, negative emotional valence, surprise, and novelty. Regression analysis showed that the flashbulb recall was predicted by negative emotion. Negative emotion seems to play a key role in the formation of flashbulb memories, at least those associated with the Paris attacks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The aim of this study was to analyze the relationships between values and physical activity in France (a Western European individualistic country) and in China (an East Asian collectivist country). Method: Six hundred and twenty-seven sport science students in France (N = 308, Mage = 18.99, SD = 1.64) and China (N = 319, Mage = 20.44, SD = 1.09) completed the International Physical Activity Questionnaire long version and the Portrait Values Questionnaire. Results: In both France and China, moderated regression analysis revealed that hedonism positively/negatively predicted physical activity, while security-societal, security-personal, and conformity-rules values negatively predicted physical activity. In contrast, stimulation and universalism-nature values positively predicted physical activity only in France. In China, benevolence and benevolence-care positively predicted physical activity, while power dominance negatively predicted physical activity. Additionally, we found evidence of measurement invariance of the value questionnaire. Discussion and conclusion: Our findings add to the literature by showing that the value--behavior link is partly the same across countries and partly different. Objective: The clinical symptoms of schizophrenia are associated with serious social, quality of life and functioning alterations. Typically, data on health utilities are not available in clinical studies in schizophrenia. This makes the economic evaluation of schizophrenia treatments challenging. The purpose of this article was to provide a mapping function to predict unobserved utility values in patients with schizophrenia from the available clinical and socio-demographic information.Methods: The analysis was performed using data from EuroSC, a 2-year, multi-centre, cohort study conducted in France (N = 288), Germany (N = 618), and the UK (N = 302), totalling 1208 patients. Utility was calculated based on the EQ-5D questionnaire. The relationships between the utility values and the patients' socio-demographic and clinical characteristics (Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale--PANSS, Calgary Depression Scale for Schizophrenia--CDSS, Global Assessment of Functioning--GAF, extra-pyramidal symptoms measured by Barnes Akathisia Scale-BAS, age, sex, country, antipsychotic type) were modelled using a random and a fixed individual effects panel linear model.Results: The analysis demonstrated the prediction ability of the used parameters for estimating utility measures in patients with schizophrenia. Although there are small variations between countries, the same variables appear to be the key predictors. From a clinical perspective, age, gender, psychopathology, and depression were the most important predictors associated with the EQ-5D.Conclusion: This paper proposed a reliable, robust and easy-to-apply mapping method to estimate EQ-5D utilities based on demographic and clinical measures in schizophrenia. Recent years have seen a considerable increase in the literature concerning the separate areas of corporate social responsibility and corporate tax aggressiveness. However, comparatively little scholarly attention has been paid to the link between the two. This paper examines how the different activities of corporate social responsibility affect corporate tax aggressiveness. A structural model was tested using partial least squares regression to determine whether the relationships between corporate social responsibility dimensions and tax aggressiveness are positive or negative. Based on a sample of French publicly listed firms, the results indicate that a firm's tax aggressiveness depends on the nature of its corporate social responsibility activities. Notably, the study demonstrates that greater the activity in the social dimension of corporate social responsibility, the lower the level of corporate tax aggressiveness will be, whereas high activity in the economic dimension is associated with a high level of tax aggressiveness. These results extend the prior literature concerning the relationship between corporate social responsibility and tax aggressiveness and suggest that the nature of the relationship, whether negative or positive, tends to differ across the corporate social responsibility dimensions. Overall, the study provides unique insight into the association between CSR activities and corporate tax aggressiveness. Indeed, the paper strongly supports the current literature and argues that the dimensions of corporate social responsibility should not be aggregated into a single measure because interesting and explanatory information is lost when such a method is used, especially with regard to an issue like corporate tax aggressiveness. Background: There is a growing need to improve robustness of fattening pigs, but this trait is difficult to phenotype. Our first objective was to develop a proxy for robustness of fattening pigs by modelling the longitudinal energy allocation coefficient to growth, with the resulting environmental variance of this allocation coefficient considered as a proxy for robustness. The second objective was to estimate its genetic parameters and correlations with traits under selection and with phenotypes that are routinely collected. In total, 5848 pigs from a Pietrain NN paternal line were tested at the AXIOM boar testing station (Azay-sur-Indre, France) from 2015 to 2022. This farm is equipped with an automatic feeding system that records individual weight and feed intake at each visit. We used a dynamic linear regression model to characterize the evolution of the allocation coefficient between the available cumulative net energy, which was estimated from feed intake, and cumulative weight gain during the fattening period. Longitudinal energy allocation coefficients were analysed using a two-step approach to estimate both the genetic variance of the coefficients and the genetic variance in their residual variance, which will be referred to as the log-transformed squared residual (LSR). Results: The LSR trait, which could be interpreted as an indicator of the response of the animal to perturbations/stress, showed a low heritability (0.05 ± 0.01), a high favourable genetic correlation with average daily growth (− 0.71 ± 0.06), and unfavourable genetic correlations with feed conversion ratio (− 0.76 ± 0.06) and residual feed intake (− 0.83 ± 0.06). Segmentation of the population in four classes using estimated breeding values for LSR showed that animals with the lowest estimated breeding values were those with the worst values for phenotypic proxies of robustness, which were assessed using records routinely collected on farm. Conclusions: Results of this study show that selection for robustness, based on estimated breeding values for environmental variance of the allocation coefficients to growth, can be considered in breeding programs for fattening pigs. This article examines fertility and labor supply responses to a 2014 French policy reform that consisted of conditioning the amount of child allowances on household income. Employing regression discontinuity design and French administrative income data, I find that restricting family allowance eligibility criteria decreases fertility among the richest households. The results also highlight that receiving half the amount of the allowances or none leads to an increase in both male and female labor supply through an increase in overtime work. The implied change in earned income, due to an increase in weekly working hours, is found to be comparable to the euro value reduction in benefits. Auxiliary regression analyses show that the fertility decline reflects a decrease in the probability of having an additional child for parents rather than in the probability of becoming parents for households without children. This article aims to attempt to increase the number of satellites that can be used for monitoring soil moisture to obtain more precise results using GNSS-IR (Global Navigation Satellite System-Interferometric Reflectometry) technology to estimate soil moisture. We introduce a soil moisture inversion model by using GPS SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio) data and propose a novel Robust Kalman Filter soil moisture inversion model based on that. We validate our models on a data set collected at Lamasquère, France. This paper also compares the precision of the Robust Kalman Filter model with the conventional linear regression method and robust regression model in three different scenarios: (1) single-band univariate regression, by using only one observable feature such as frequency, amplitude, or phase; (2) dual-band data fusion univariate regression; and (3) dual-band data fusion multivariate regression. First, the proposed models achieve higher accuracy than the conventional method for single-band univariate regression, especially by using the phase as the input feature. Second, dual-band univariate data fusion achieves higher accuracy than single-band and the result of the Robust Kalman Filter model correlates better to the in situ measurement. Third, multivariate variable fusion improves the accuracy for both models, but the Robust Kalman Filter model achieves better improvement. Wood dust is an established carcinogen also linked to several non malignant respiratory disorders. A major limitation in research on wood dust and its health effects is the lack of (historical) quantitative estimates of occupational exposure for use in general population-based case-control or cohort studies. The present study aimed to develop a multinational quantitative Job Exposure Matrix (JEM) for wood dust exposure using exposure data from several Northern and Central European countries. For this, an occupational exposure database containing 12653 personal wood dust measurements collected between 1978 and 2007 in Denmark, Finland, France, The Netherlands, Norway, and the United Kingdom (UK) was established. Measurement data were adjusted for differences in inhalable dust sampling efficiency resulting from the use of different dust samplers and analysed using linear mixed effect regression with job codes (ISCO-88) and country treated as random effects. Fixed effects were the year of measurement, the expert assessment of exposure intensity (no, low, and high exposure) for every ISCO-88 job code from an existing wood dust JEM and sampling duration. The results of the models suggest that wood dust exposure has declined annually by approximately 8%. Substantial differences in exposure levels between countries were observed with the highest levels in the United Kingdom and the lowest in Denmark and Norway, albeit with similar job rankings across countries. The jobs with the highest predicted exposure are floor layers and tile setters, wood-products machine operators, and building construction labourers with geometric mean levels for the year 1997 between 1.7 and 1.9 mg/m3. The predicted exposure estimates by the model are compared with the results of wood dust measurement data reported in the literature. The model predicted estimates for full-shift exposures were used to develop a time-dependent quantitative JEM for exposure to wood dust that can be used to estimate exposure for participants of general population studies in Northern European countries on the health effects from occupational exposure to wood dust. Background: Direct support workers (DSWs) accompany adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and intellectual disability (ID) in residential care homes. Such DSWs, without specialised ASD training, are exposed to chronic stress linked to supporting ASD‐ID clients and must adjust by coping strategies adapted to the needs of the residents. Nevertheless, difficulties adjusting constitute a burnout risk for DSWs, characterised by high levels of emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation and loss of a sense of personal accomplishment. We aimed to describe the burnout of DSWs who support adults with ASD‐ID and to identify personal variables (experience and specialised training for ASD) and transactional variables (perceived stress and coping strategies) that could predict and mediate burnout. Method: In total, 125 DSWs accompanying ASD‐ID adults on a daily basis were included. Each participant answered four questionnaires measuring burnout, sociodemographic and professional variables, coping strategies and perceived stress. Results: Five per cent of DSWs were in a state of burnout. Eighteen, six and fifty‐nine per cent showed high average scores of emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation and loss of a sense of personal accomplishment, respectively. Being older, specialised training in ASD, stress perceived as a challenge and problem‐focused coping strategies were associated with low levels of depersonalisation and loss of a sense of personal accomplishment. Conclusions: Understanding the burnout process of ASD‐ID DSWs may require the assessment of the organisational characteristics linked to the quality of life of the DSWs and the recognition of their specific needs when facing difficulties. This study evaluated the association between dietary patterns, gas-related symptoms (GRS) and their impact on quality of life (QoL) in a representative sample (n 936) of the French adult population. During the 2018–2019 'Comportements et Consommations Alimentaires en France' survey (Behaviors and Food Consumption in France), online evaluation of GRS in adult participants was performed using the validated Intestinal Gas Questionnaire (IGQ), which captures the perception of GRS and their impact on QoL via six symptom dimensions scores (range 0–100; 100 = worse) and a global score (mean of the sum of the six symptom dimensions scores). Socio-demographics, lifestyle parameters and dietary habits (7-d e-food diary) were also collected online. Quality of diet was determined using the Nutrient-Rich Food 9.3 (NRF9.3) score (range 0–900; 900 = best). Univariate and multivariate linear regression models were applied to identify factors associated with IGQ global score. K-means was used to identify clusters of subjects based on their dietary records. Data from 936 adults who completed both the IGQ and the food diary showed a mean IGQ global score of 11·9 (sd 11·2). Younger age and female sex were associated with a higher IGQ global score. Only 7 % of subjects reported no symptom at all and nearly 30 % of study participants reported a high impact of GRS on their QoL. Two dietary clusters were identified: cluster 1, characterised by a higher consumption of fruits and vegetables, lower sugars intake and higher NRF9.3 score and cluster 2, characterised by higher intake of sugars, lower intake in dietary fibres and lower NRF9.3 score. The IGQ global score was lower in cluster 1 and higher in cluster 2 v. the total sample average (P < 0·001). The prevalence of GRS in the French adult population is high and is associated with impaired QoL and dietary patterns. On 2 February 2017, French police officers brutally abused a young black man, leading to the first wave of 2017 French riots. The present study exploits the coincidence that the focal event occurred during the survey period of the European Social Survey (ESS) 2016 (11 November 2016 – 11 March 2017) in France, thus providing the basis for a natural experiment on the effect of media reporting on police misconduct on trust in the police. Data are analysed by means of a regression discontinuity design (RDD) as well as more conventional regression analyses with heteroscedasticity robust standard errors. In line with procedural justice theory as well as institutional theory, the present study finds support for the notion that this special case of police misconduct did decrease trust in the police. In addition, people reporting a migrant background showed even less trust in the police after the event. Frequency of different media consumption does not appear to explain the deterioration of trust in the police after the event. The results of this study increase the internal and external validity of the assumption that trust in the police can be explained not only by personal experiences but also by the perceived unfair treatment of others. Results are robust to various placebo tests. There is some evidence that the effect seems to be short-lived, although the data basis is limited in this regard. Simple Summary: [177Lu]oxodotreotide (Lutathera®) was approved by the European Medical Agency in 2017 and the Food and Drug Administration in 2018 for the treatment of somatostatin receptor-positive gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors as the first radiopharmaceutical for peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT). PRRT premedication using an amino acid solution is the standard regimen for renal protection. In this way, our nuclear medicine department used two types of amino acid perfusion. Firstly, a commercial solution containing a mixture of amino acids and, next, a lysine–arginine preparation. We aimed to estimate the tolerance profile and risk factors of adverse events with both solutions. In our large cohort of patients (76 patients for 236 cycles), we confirmed the better tolerance of the lysine–arginine preparation. The risk factors identified were being of the female sex and the use of the commercial solution. To our knowledge, this is the first study to evaluate the tolerance of amino acid solutions with real-life patient data in a large cohort. Background: The co-infusion of amino acid solutions during peptide receptor radionuclide therapy reduces the tubular reabsorption of 177Lu-oxodotreotide, thus minimizing nephrotoxicity. In our nuclear medicine department, the patients received two different types of amino acid perfusion over time: a commercial solution (CS) containing 10% amino acids, and a 2.5% lysine–arginine (LysArg) hospital preparation, produced by a referral laboratory. The aim of the present study was to analyze the tolerance of the two amino acid solutions. Methods: The patient files were analyzed and double-checked. The study parameters comprised the gender, age, primary tumor site, type of amino acid perfusion, adverse events (AE) and WHO AE grades, antiemetic premedication, creatinine, and serum potassium level. Results: From February 2016 to February 2019, 76 patients were treated, for a total 235 cycles. AEs occurred in 71% of the CS cycles (n = 82/116), versus 18% (n = 21/119) in the LysArg group (p < 0.0001). In the CS group, the AEs were mostly WHO grade 4 (n = 24/82), and mostly grade 1 in the LysArg group (n = 13/21). Poisson regression showed a higher risk of AE overall and of grades 3 and 4 in the females and with CS. The mean creatinine clearance was identical before and after the PRRT cycles, whichever amino acid perfusion was used. Conclusions: The lysine–arginine preparation showed better tolerance than the commercial solution. The change to LysArg reduced the antiemetic premedication from four molecules to one. Summary: Background: Cord blood leptin is an indicator of neonatal fat mass and could shape postnatal adiposity trajectories. Investigating genetic polymorphisms of the leptin receptor gene (LEPR) could help understand the mechanisms involved. Objectives: We aimed to investigate the association of cord blood leptin level and the LEPR rs9436303 polymorphism, with body mass index (BMI) at adiposity peak (AP) and age at adiposity rebound (AR). Methods: In the EDEN cohort, BMI at AP and age at AR were estimated with polynomial mixed models, for 1713 and 1415 children, respectively. Multivariable linear regression models allowed for examining the associations of cord blood leptin level and LEPR rs9436303 genotype with BMI at AP and age at AR adjusted for potential confounders including birth size groups. We also tested interactions between cord blood leptin level and rs9436303 genotype. Results: Increased leptin level was associated with reduced BMI at AP and early age at AR (comparing the highest quintile of leptin level to the others). Rs9436303 G‐allele carriage was associated with increased BMI at AP and later age at AR but did not modulate the association with leptin level. Breastfeeding (BF) initiation rates in French maternity units are among the lowest in Europe. After increasing for several years, they decreased between 2010 and 2016, although several maternal characteristics known to be positively associated with BF in France were more frequent. We aimed to (1) quantify adjusted trends in BF initiation rates between 2010 and 2016; (2) examine associations between BF initiation rates and newborn, maternal, maternity unit, and department‐level characteristics. Using data from the 2010 (n = 12,224) and 2016 (n = 11,089) French National Perinatal Surveys, we analysed BF initiation (exclusive, mixed, and any) through a succession of six mixed‐effect multinomial regression models, progressively adding adjustment covariates. Adjusted exclusive and any BF initiation rates decreased by 9.6 and 4.5 points, respectively, versus by 7.7 and 1.8 points, respectively, in the crude analysis. In both years, adjusted exclusive and any BF initiation rates were lowest in the following categories of mothers: low education level, single, high body mass index and multiple or premature births. Exclusive BF initiation decreased most in primiparous mothers, those with the lowest household income, mothers that had a vaginal delivery, women born in an African country and those who delivered in a maternity unit without Baby‐Friendly Hospital Initiative designation. The 2010–2016 decrease in BF initiation rates in France cannot be explained by changes in mothers' characteristics; quite the opposite, adjustment increased its magnitude. Additional efforts should be put in place to understand why this decrease is particularly sharp in some subgroups of mothers. Key points: While some maternal characteristics previously known to be positively associated with breastfeeding (BF) in France were more frequent in 2016 than 2010, any BF initiation rate in maternity units in France decreased by 2 points (from 68.7% to 66.7%), and exclusive BF by 8 points (from 60.3% to 52.2%). Background and purpose: Social engagement is an important active aging strategy to promote older adults' mental health. The purposes of this study were to compare social engagement in older populations around the world and explore associations with mental health outcomes. Materials and methods: An international cross‐sectional survey was conducted from 2017 to 2019. Data were retrieved from The International Social Survey Programme for a secondary data analysis across 30 countries. This study applied the Taxonomy of Social Activities and its six levels as operational definitions for a consistent concept of social engagement for international comparisons. Results: In total, 9403 older adults with a mean age of 72.85 ± 6.40 years responded. The highest levels of older adults' social engagement were found in Switzerland, Thailand, and New Zealand. Older adults of a higher age, with a lower educational level, who were permanently sick or disabled, who had no partner, who were widowed or whose civil partner had died, who lived alone, and who had lower self‐placement in society had significantly lower social engagement than did their counterparts. In the regression model, older adults' social engagement positively predicted general health, self‐accomplishment, and life satisfaction, but negatively predicted loneliness and depression. Conclusions: In aging societies worldwide, encouraging older adults' social engagement would be beneficial to promote mental health. Implications for nursing practice and health policies: Community professional nurses can develop strategies of social engagement based on the needs and sociodemographic factors of older adults to improve their mental health. Purpose: For decades, consistent associations between breastfeeding and children's neurodevelopment have been attributed to breastmilk content in long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFAs). However, the beneficial effect of LC-PUFA enrichment of infant formula on neurodevelopment remains controversial. This study examined the association of LC-PUFA enrichment of infant formulas with neurodevelopment up to age 3.5 years. Methods: Analyses were based on 9372 children from the French nationwide ELFE birth cohort. Monthly from 2 to 10 months, parents declared their infant's feeding mode, including breastfeeding and the name of the infant formula, which allowed for identifying formulas enriched in arachidonic (ARA), eicosapentaenoic (EPA) and/or docosahexaenoic (DHA) acids. Neurodevelopment was assessed at age 1 and 3.5 years with the Child Development Inventory (CDI-1 and CDI-3.5); at 2 years with the MacArthur-Bates Communicative Development Inventories (MB-2); and at 3.5 years with the Picture Similarities subtest of the British Ability Scale (BAS-3.5). Associations were assessed by linear regression adjusted for any breastfeeding duration and main confounding factors, including socioeconomic characteristics. Results: One-third of formula-fed infants consumed LC-PUFA-enriched formulas. Most of these formulas were enriched in both DHA and ARA, and about 10% of infants consumed formula further enriched in EPA. LC-PUFA enrichment of infant formula was not associated with neurodevelopmental scores at age 1 (CDI-1, − 0.16 [− 0.39, 0.07]), age 2 (MB-2, 0.78 [− 0.33, 1.89]), or age 3.5 (CDI-3.5, − 0.05 [− 0.27, 0.17]; BAS-3.5, − 0.93 [− 2.85, 0.98]). Informal caregivers are key players in maintaining chronically ill patients at home but often experience negative consequences such as informal caregiver burnout. The processes by which determinants related to informal care and their personal and social resources affect the caregiver's risk of burnout remains little investigated. Recent theoretical works have suggested that two mediators could play an important role in understanding how these risks and resources influence informal caregiver burnout: by deteriorating how they view their role (caregiving appraisal) and by weakening the relationship with the care‐recipient (relationship quality). The present study aimed at exploring the impact of the care‐recipient's dependency (WHODAS), the caregiver's emotional intelligence (TEIQue‐SF), and loneliness (UCLALS) on informal caregiver burnout (MBI‐ICg). This association was explored both directly and through the mediation of caregiving appraisal (measured by subjective burden, ZBI) and relationship quality. To do so, a sample of 444 French‐speaking informal caregivers completed online questionnaires from November 2017 to August 2018. Structural equation modelling (SEM) was performed to test the mediation model. As a result, the caregiving appraisal appears as a key mediator between determinants and informal caregiver burnout, whereas the relationship quality had a lower predictive value. Among the determinants, emotional intelligence was the strongest protective factor and the care‐recipient's dependency was the strongest risk factor. But beyond this association, the perception informal caregivers have of their role (their caregiving appraisal) is a key mediator between these determinants and informal caregiver burnout, which emphasizes the importance of subjectivity in building risk and protective profiles. We investigate the effect of retirement on memory using the Survey on Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE). The availability of a panel data-set allows individual heterogeneity to be controlled for when estimating the effect of transitions into retirement on a commonly employed memory measure, word recall. We control for endogeneity of the retirement decision applying an instrumental variable technique to our fixed-effects transformation. Entrepreneurial ecosystems have become a hotspot of research because they offer a comprehensive understanding of the entrepreneurial context. In this context, incubators, as intermediary players, are critical to promoting new business creation and enabling ecosystem activity and economic growth. To reach this goal, ecosystem members—particularly business incubator managers—seek ecosystem strategies, including cooperation and competition. While previous literature indicates that successful ecosystems require a balance between cooperation and competition to maintain the improvement of value creation, little evidence exists of the effects on performance. Therefore, this article empirically tests the effects of the entrepreneurial ecosystem and co-opetition strategy on incubator performance. The literature on ecosystem strategy and strategic fit is followed to conceptualize the links among the entrepreneurial ecosystem, co-opetition strategy, and incubator performance. An online quantitative survey-based method was used to examine the strategic interactions in the entrepreneurial ecosystem. The empirical analysis of data from 156 incubators in France revealed that co-opetition significantly improves incubator performance and that the entrepreneurial ecosystem has a moderating role between incubator strategy and performance. Additionally, this article suggests that policymakers may favor hybrid strategies such as co-opetition over pure strategies such as cooperation or competition under certain conditions. While the survival function of culture against infectious disease has been investigated, little is known about its psychological processes under the real‐world threat of infection. Here, we compare the subjective COVID‐19‐related symptoms of Japanese and French adults during the spring of 2021. We tested two regression models describing the downregulation of symptoms by germ aversion, and by interdependent happiness, together with relational mobility and demographics. We regard germ aversion as an individualized fending‐off process marked by discomfort with the general other in the face of possible infection. We regard interdependent happiness as a relational safeguarding process against possible infection. Results suggest that the effect of germ aversion differed across nations, negatively explaining symptoms in Japan but not in France, and that the effect of interdependent happiness was shared. In a French-German study including a large survey of adolescents in four cities, we analyze the interaction patterns during stops. Based on the respondents' reports of their last experience of a police stop/encounter, we look at the likelihood that they assessed the interaction as respectful or disrespectful, conflictual or even violent, and how either the police officers' or their own behaviour contributed to this outcome. The comparative design of the survey allows us to examine differences in the institutional patterns of use of force during stops of adolescents by the French and German police (where, when, against which groups). Using multilevel regression analyses, we compare the individual and spatial predictors of disrespectful or violent interactions, in particular with regard to ethnicity and urban segregation in the two countries. While discrimination in the selection of targets is found in France, it is not in Germany. In addition, interactions are much more frequently reported as disrespectful and violent by French compared to German adolescents. These results align with previous research showing that France has a more confrontational policing pattern of work, with more stops, more racial profiling and more tensions during stops. We contend that an institutional theory of policing (ITP) is needed to account for the repeatedly found differences in how much force is used and how it relates to the use of stops and their modalities across the two states. Background: Brief Contact Interventions (BCIs) after a suicide attempt (SA) are an important element of prevention against SA and suicide. VigilanS generalizes to a whole French region a BCI combining resource cards, telephone calls and sending postcards, according to a predefined algorithm. However, a major obstacle to such real-life intervention is the loss of contact during follow-up. Here, we analyze the occurrence of loss of follow-up (LFU) and compare characteristics of patients LFU with follow-up completers. Methods: The study concerned patients included in VigilanS over the period from 1st January 2015 to 31 December 2018, with an end of follow-up on 1st July 2019. We performed a series of descriptive analysis and logistic regressions. The outcome was the loss to follow-up, relative to the 6th month call marking the end of the follow-up; the predictive variables were the characteristics of the patient at entry and during follow-up. Age and sex were considered as adjustment variables. Results: 11879 inclusions occurred during the study period, corresponding to 10666 different patients. The mean age was 40.6 ± 15 years. More than a third were non-first suicide attempters (46.6%) and the most frequent means of suicide was by voluntary drug intoxication (83.2%). 8335 patients were LFU. After simple and multiple regression, a significant relationship with loss to follow-up was identified among non-first suicide attempters, alcohol consumers, patients having no companion on arrival at the emergency room, patients who didn't make or receive any calls. An increased stay in hospital after a SA was a protective factor against loss of follow-up. Conclusion: A majority of patients were lost to follow-up by the expected surveillance time of 6 months. Characteristics of lost patients will help focusing efforts to improve retention in the VigilanS program and might give insights for BCI implemented elsewhere. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article investigates the effects of union and nonunion employee representation (ER) on the use of high-performance work systems (HPWSs) in the French context. We use microdata from a nationally representative survey (REPONSE 2010-11) and estimate models dealing with the potential endogeneity of ER. After controlling for endogeneity and for a range of workplace characteristics, regression analyses suggest that neither union nor nonunion representatives are inherently against the use of HPWSs. Objectives Occupational exposure to molybdenum has been poorly documented to date. Here, we present a retrospective study evaluating urinary molybdenum concentration before and after shift over a period of 2 years in exposed workers. Methods This retrospective study was conducted across eight industrial sites in France and included all workers undergoing medical follow-up for occupational molybdenum exposure. A mean of six sequential samples (before and after shift) was performed for each worker. The urinary molybdenum concentration was determined using a validated method of inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry. A mixed linear model was built and linear regression was used to verify the extent to which the urinary molybdenum concentration depends on the age of the workers and the sampling period. Additionally, an analysis based on individual trajectory was also performed. Results Seventy-seven workers were included in the present study. Post-shift urinary molybdenum concentrations were significantly higher than pre-shift values [median (95th percentile) 37.9 (91.1), versus 60.6 (190.0) µg g−1 creatinine, respectively, P < 0.009]. No accumulation of molybdenum over time was observed. The urinary molybdenum concentrations were not influenced by age. Four workers presented high post-shift values as a result of not adhering to protection measures (maxima of 529.8, 359.7, 386.3, and 1459.7 µg g−1 creatinine, respectively). Conclusions To our knowledge, this is the first study of occupational molybdenum exposure in France to include an individual trajectory analysis. No accumulation of molybdenum was seen but high post-shift molybdenum urinary concentrations were observed for some workers. Summary: Background: In several systematic reviews, rapid weight gain in early life has been related to increased risk of later obesity. In line with this finding, the "early protein hypothesis" suggests that reducing early protein intake is a potential lever for obesity prevention. Objective: To determine whether the variability of protein content of infant formula used in France over the period 2003‐2012 is significantly associated with early growth in children. Methods: A pooled sample of infants from the EDEN (Etude des Déterminants pré et postnatals de la santé et du développement de l'Enfant) mother‐child cohort (born in 2003‐2006) and the ELFE (Etude Longitudinale Française depuis l'Enfance) birth cohort (born in 2011) (ntotal = 5846) was used. Protein content of the infant formula received at 4 months was classified into five groups. Associations between protein content (or breastfed status) at 4 months and weight‐, length‐ and BMI‐for‐age z‐scores at 6, 12 and 18 months were analysed by multivariable linear regression. Results: This analysis showed a positive association between protein content and weight‐, length‐ and BMI‐for‐age z‐scores at 6 months and only for weight‐for‐age at 12 months. At 6 months, as compared with the intermediate protein‐content group (2.1‐2.5 g/100 kcal), infants receiving very‐high protein content (>2.8 g/100 kcal) had higher BMI‐for‐age z‐score and those from the very‐low protein‐content group (<2.0 g/100 kcal) had lower BMI‐for‐age z‐score. Exclusively breastfed infants had lower length and weight z‐scores than formula‐fed infants at any age. Conclusions: Our findings show a positive association, under real conditions of use, between protein contents in infant formula still on the market and weight‐, length‐ and BMI‐for‐age z‐scores from 6 to 18 months. Purpose: To examine in elite soccer players after traveling across 6 time zones some psychometric and physiological responses to a competitive camp in the heat. Methods: Data from 12 elite professional players (24.6 ± 5.3 y) were analyzed. They participated in an 8-d preseason summer training camp in A sia (heat index 34.9°C ± 2.4°C). Players' activity was collected during all training sessions and the friendly game using 15-Hz GPS. Perceived training/playing load was estimated using session rating of perceived exertion (RPE) and training/match duration. Psychometric measures o f wellness were collected on awakening before, during, and after the camp using simple questionnaires. Heart-rate (HR) response to a submaximal 4-min run (12 km/h) and the ratio between velocity and force-load (accelerometer-derived measure, a marker of neuromuscular efficiency) response to four ~60-m runs (22-24 km/h) were collected before, at the end of, and after the camp. Results: After a large increase, the RPE:m/min ratio decreased substantially throughout the camp. There were possible small increases in perceived fatigue and small decreases in subjective sleep quality on the 6th day. There were also likely moderate (~3%) decreases in HR response to the submaximal run, both at the end of and after the camp, which were contemporary to possible small (~8%) and most likely moderate (-19%) improvements in neuromuscular efficiency, respectively. Conclusions: Despite transient increases in fatigue and reduced subjective sleep quality by the end of the camp, these elite players showed clear signs of heat acclimatization that were associated with improved cardiovascular fitness and neuromuscular running efficiency. Although composing two words into a complex representation (e.g., “coffee cake”) is conceptually different from forming associations between a pair of words (e.g., “coffee, cake”), the brain regions supporting semantic composition have also been implicated for associative encoding. Here, we adopted a two-word magnetoencephalography (MEG) paradigm which varies compositionality (“French/Korean cheese” vs “France/Korea cheese”) and strength of association (“France/French cheese” vs “Korea/Korean cheese”) between the two words. We collected MEG data while 42 English speakers (24 females) viewed the two words successively in the scanner, and we applied both univariate regression analyses and multivariate pattern classification to the source estimates of the two words. We show that the left anterior temporal lobe (LATL) and left middle temporal lobe (LMTL) are distinctively modulated by semantic composition and semantic association. Specifically, the LATL is mostly sensitive to high-association compositional phrases, while the LMTL responds more to low-association compositional phrases. Pattern-based directed connectivity analyses further revealed a continuous information flow from the anterior to the middle temporal region, suggesting that the integration of adjective and noun properties originated earlier in the LATL is consistently delivered to the LMTL when the complex meaning is newly encountered. Postexercise heart-rate (HR) recovery (HRR) indices have been associated with running and cycling endurance-exercise performance. The current study was designed (1) to test whether such a relationship also exists in the case of cross-country skiing (XCS) and (2) to determine whether the magnitude of any such relationship is related to the intensity of exercise before obtaining HRR indices. Ten elite male cross-country skiers (mean ± SD; 28.2 ± 5.4 y, 181 ± 8 cm, 77.9 ± 9.4 kg, 69.5 ± 4.3 mL · min–1 · kg–1 maximal oxygen uptake [VO2max]) performed 2 sessions of roller-skiing on a treadmill: a 2 × 3-km time trial and the same 6-km at an imposed submaximal speed followed by a final 800-m time trial. VO2 and HR were monitored continuously, while HRR and blood lactate (BLa) were assessed during 2 min immediately after each 6-km and the 800-m time trial. The 6-km time-trial time was largely negatively correlated with VO2max and BLa. On the contrary, there was no clear correlation between the 800-m time-trial time and VO2, HR, or BLa. In addition, in no case was any clear correlation between any of the HRR indices and performance time or VO2max observed. These findings confirm that XCS performance is largely correlated with VO2max and the ability to tolerate high levels of BLa; however, postexercise HRR showed no clear association with performance. The homogeneity of the group of athletes involved and the contribution of the arms and upper body to the exercise preceding determination of HRR may explain this absence of a relationship. Objectives: To investigate the predictive capacity of an age-related deficit accumulation index (the so-called Frailty Index [FI] proposed by Rockwood) for hospital admission (HA) and number of days spent in hospital (DSH) among nursing home residents. Design, setting and participants: Data are from a longitudinal cohort study, the Incidence of pNeumonia and related ConseqUences in nursing home Residents (INCUR), of 768 elder people (75.4% women) living in 13 nursing homes in France. Measurements: The FI was computed taking into account 30 possible deficits at the baseline visit. Hospital admissions were defined as all urgent and involuntary admissions including unplanned readmissions. The length of stay was the total number of days spent by the resident in the hospital. Cox proportional hazard models in the presence of competing risks (death) were performed to study the relationship between the FI and HA over a 12-month follow-up. A Zero-inflated negative binomial regression was performed to study the association between the FI and DSH. Results: Mean age of participants was 86.7 (standard deviation [SD] 6.9) years, with a mean FI of 0.37 (SD 0.11). At the end of the follow-up, 238 (30.9%) HA events were recorded. Positive associations of the FI with DSH and HA were reported (per 0.01 FI increment: age- and gender-adjusted hazard ratio 1.15, 95% confidence interval 1.020–1.297, p=0.02 and OR 1.209 (1.075–1.359, p<0.001, respectively). Conclusions and Implications: The FI is a strong predictor of negative health-related outcomes as HA and DSH events, even with very old and complex nursing home residents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
