Two key building characteristics, namely the number of stories and typology, is vital across various domains such as construction management and architectural design. These aspects are particularly critical for disaster risk assessment and infrastructure planning. Although deep learning models are adept at extracting this information from Street view images (SVIs), their success is contingent upon the availability of large and diverse data sets with high accuracy. Image augmentation presents an alternative method to artificially broaden data set diversity. However, the impact of image augmentation techniques on identifying building stories and typologies from SVIs has not been adequately explored. This study proposes a methodology employing eight distinct image augmentation techniques—brightness, contrast, perspective, rotation, scale, shearing, and translation augmentations—as well as a combined approach using all these methods. The study evaluates the efficacy of models trained with these techniques by comparing the accuracy of different classes and architectures for each task, both with and without the application of augmentation. The findings revealed that while most augmentation methods enhance model accuracy, their effectiveness is task-dependent. Furthermore, it was observed that the most effective augmentation techniques differ among building classes and architectures within each task. This suggests that augmentation strategies need to be custom-designed to align with the unique features of each class and architectures for precise estimation of the number of stories and building typologies. While the focus of this research is on specific tasks, the evaluated augmentation techniques could also extend to related areas, such as ascertaining the age of buildings or identifying window types. Practical Applications: In this study, the efficacy of augmentation techniques is explored within the framework of identifying the number of stories and building typologies. The models were assessed for average accuracy and class-specific accuracy across various architectures, comparing outcomes with and without the implementation of the proposed augmentation methods. A key finding is that the most effective augmentation method varies between architectures and individual classes. Contrary to common practice in deep learning, where applying multiple augmentation techniques is standard for accuracy enhancement, this study observed that such a strategy did not uniformly improve performance. Specifically, while combining augmentation methods generally resulted in higher average accuracy, this was not the case for some classes within MobileNetV3 when detecting the number of stories. Similarly, for ResNet-152, employing all augmentation techniques together led to the lowest accuracy in certain classes for building typology classification. These results indicate that augmentation strategies may require customization to cater to the distinct characteristics of each class and architecture for accurate estimation of number of stories and building typologies. Cellular senescence is a major driver of aging and age-related diseases. Quantification of senescent cells remains challenging due to the lack of senescence-specific markers and generalist, unbiased methodology. Here, we describe the Fully-Automated Senescence Test (FAST), an image-based method for the high-throughput, single-cell assessment of senescence in cultured cells. FAST quantifies three of the most widely adopted senescence-associated markers for each cell imaged: senescence-associated β-galactosidase activity (SA-β-Gal) using X-Gal, proliferation arrest via lack of 5-ethynyl-2'-deoxyuridine (EdU) incorporation, and enlarged morphology via increased nuclear area. The presented workflow entails microplate image acquisition, image processing, data analysis, and graphing. Standardization was achieved by (i) quantifying colorimetric SA-β-Gal via optical density; (ii) implementing staining background controls; and (iii) automating image acquisition, image processing, and data analysis. In addition to the automated threshold-based scoring, a multivariate machine learning approach is provided. We show that FAST accurately quantifies senescence burden and is agnostic to cell type and microscope setup. Moreover, it effectively mitigates false-positive senescence marker staining, a common issue arising from culturing conditions. Using FAST, we compared X-Gal with fluorescent C12FDG live-cell SA-β-Gal staining on the single-cell level. We observed only a modest correlation between the two, indicating that those stains are not trivially interchangeable. Finally, we provide proof of concept that our method is suitable for screening compounds that modify senescence burden. This method will be broadly useful to the aging field by enabling rapid, unbiased, and user-friendly quantification of senescence burden in culture, as well as facilitating large-scale experiments that were previously impractical. Microbiologically Induced Calcium Carbonate Precipitation (MICP) is a technology for improving soil characteristics, especially strength, that has been gaining increasing interest in literature during the last few years. Although a lot of influencing factors on the result of MICP are known, particle size and shape of the particles remain poorly understood. While destructive measuring of compressive strength or calcium carbonate content are important for the characterization of samples these methods give no insight into the internal structures and pore networks of the samples. X-ray microcomputed tomography (micro-CT) is a technique that is used to characterize the internals of rocks and to a certain degree MICP-treated soils. However, the impact of filtering and image processing of micro-CT Data depending on the type of MICP sample is poorly described in the literature. In this study, single fractions of local quarry were treated with MICP through the ureolytic microorganism Sporosarcina pasteurii to investigate the influence of particle size distribution on calcium carbonate content, unconfined compressive strength and the reduction of water permeability. Additionally, micro-CT was conducted to obtain insights into the resulting pore system. The impact of the Gauss filter und Non-local means filter on the resulting images and data on the pore network are discussed. The results show that particle size has a significant impact on the result of all tested parameters of biosandstone with lower particle size leading to higher strength and generally higher calcium carbonate content. Micro-CT data showed that the technology is feasible to gain valuable insights into the internal structures of biosandstone but the resolution and signal-to-noise ratio remain challenging, especially for samples with particle sizes smaller than 125 µm. This study introduces a novel approach that addresses the limitations of existing methods by integrating 2D image processing with 3D point cloud analysis, enhanced by interpretable neural networks. Unlike traditional methods that rely on either 2D or 3D data alone, our approach leverages the complementary strengths of both data types to improve detection accuracy in environments adversely affected by welding spatter and smoke. Our system employs an improved Faster R-CNN model with a ResNet50 backbone for 2D image analysis, coupled with an innovative orthogonal plane intersection line extraction algorithm for 3D point cloud processing. By incorporating explainable components such as visualizable feature maps and a transparent region proposal network, we address the "black box" issue common in deep learning models.This architecture enables a more transparent decision-making process, providing technicians with necessary insights to understand and trust the system's outputs. Advancements in imaging technologies have revolutionized our ability to deeply profile pathological tissue architectures, generating large volumes of imaging data with unparalleled spatial resolution. This type of data collection, namely, spatial proteomics, offers invaluable insights into various human diseases. Simultaneously, computational algorithms have evolved to manage the increasing dimensionality of spatial proteomics inherent in this progress. Numerous imaging-based computational frameworks, such as computational pathology, have been proposed for research and clinical applications. However, the development of these fields demands diverse domain expertise, creating barriers to their integration and further application. This review seeks to bridge this divide by presenting a comprehensive guideline. The early detection of breast cancer is essential for improving treatment outcomes, and recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), combined with image processing techniques, have shown great potential in enhancing diagnostic accuracy. This study explores the effects of various image processing methods and AI models on the performance of early breast cancer diagnostic systems. By focusing on techniques such as Wiener filtering and total variation filtering, we aim to improve image quality and diagnostic precision. The novelty of this study lies in the comprehensive evaluation of these techniques across multiple medical imaging datasets, including a DCE-MRI dataset for breast-tumor image segmentation and classification (BreastDM) and the Breast Ultrasound Image (BUSI), Mammographic Image Analysis Society (MIAS), Breast Cancer Histopathological Image (BreakHis), and Digital Database for Screening Mammography (DDSM) datasets. The integration of advanced AI models, such as the vision transformer (ViT) and the U-KAN model—a U-Net structure combined with Kolmogorov–Arnold Networks (KANs)—is another key aspect, offering new insights into the efficacy of these approaches in different imaging contexts. Experiments revealed that Wiener filtering significantly improved image quality, achieving a peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) of 23.06 dB and a structural similarity index measure (SSIM) of 0.79 using the BreastDM dataset and a PSNR of 20.09 dB with an SSIM of 0.35 using the BUSI dataset. When combined filtering techniques were applied, the results varied, with the MIAS dataset showing a decrease in SSIM and an increase in the mean squared error (MSE), while the BUSI dataset exhibited enhanced perceptual quality and structural preservation. The vision transformer (ViT) framework excelled in processing complex image data, particularly with the BreastDM and BUSI datasets. Notably, the Wiener filter using the BreastDM dataset resulted in an accuracy of 96.9% and a recall of 96.7%, while the combined filtering approach further enhanced these metrics to 99.3% accuracy and 98.3% recall. In the BUSI dataset, the Wiener filter achieved an accuracy of 98.0% and a specificity of 98.5%. Additionally, the U-KAN model demonstrated superior performance in breast cancer lesion segmentation, outperforming traditional models like U-Net and U-Net++ across datasets, with an accuracy of 93.3% and a sensitivity of 97.4% in the BUSI dataset. Introduction: Lung image segmentation plays an important role in computer-aid pulmonary disease diagnosis and treatment. Methods: This paper explores the lung CT image segmentation method by generative adversarial networks. We employ a variety of generative adversarial networks and used their capability of image translation to perform image segmentation. The generative adversarial network is employed to translate the original lung image into the segmented image. Results: The generative adversarial networks-based segmentation method is tested on real lung image data set. Introduction: This research explores the application of generative artificial intelligence, specifically the novel ARISGAN framework, for generating highresolution synthetic satellite imagery in the challenging arctic environment. Realistic and high-resolution surface imagery in the Arctic is crucial for applications ranging from satellite retrieval systems to the wellbeing and safety of Inuit populations relying on detailed surface observations. Methods: The ARISGAN framework was designed by combining dense block, multireceptive field, and Pix2Pix architecture. This innovative combination aims to address the need for high-quality imagery and improve upon existing state-of-the-art models. Various tasks and metrics were employed to evaluate the performance of ARISGAN, with particular attention to land-based and sea icebased imagery. Results: The results demonstrate that the ARISGAN framework surpasses existing state-of-the-art models across diverse tasks and metrics. Specifically, land-based imagery super-resolution exhibits superior metrics compared to sea ice-based imagery when evaluated across multiple models. These findings confirm the ARISGAN framework's effectiveness in generating perceptually valid highresolution arctic surface imagery. The compressor is the most core component of refrigeration products, and its performance directly affects the overall performance of the product. The exhaust silencing chamber and coil are key components of a refrigeration compressor, and their working stability and lifespan determine the reliability and economy of the refrigeration compressor. This paper obtains reference data for the fluid domain of the exhaust silencing chamber through simulation analysis and image processing of the existing exhaust silencing chamber structure and inner diameter size of the coil. Then, the optimal model of the prioritized exhaust chamber is obtained through pattern recognition method. Based on the image processing method, the internal flow field of the exhaust chamber are obtained, providing a strong reference for the optimal structural design of the exhaust silencing chamber and coil of the refrigeration compression body. The primary objective of this study was to demonstrate the potential of digital image analysis as a tool to identify microplastic (MP) particles in surface waters and to facilitate their characterisation in terms of 2D and 3D morphology. Digital image analysis preceded by microscopic analysis was used for an exhaustive quantitative and qualitative evaluation of MPs isolated from the Vistula River. Using image processing procedures, 2D and 3D shape descriptors were determined. Principal Component Analysis was used to interpret the relationships between the parameters studied, characterising MP particle geometry, type and colour. This multivariate analysis of the data allowed three or four main factors to be extracted, explaining approximately 90% of the variation in the data characterising MP morphology. It was found that the first principal component for granules, flakes and films was largely represented by strongly correlated with 2D shape descriptors (area, perimeter, equivalent area diameter) and 3D shape descriptors (Corey Shape Factor, Compactness, Dimensionality). Considering the scraps, principal component PC1 was represented by only five of the above descriptors, and the Compactness variable had the largest contribution to principal component PC2. In addition, for granules, flakes and films, a relationship between 2D shape and the colour of their particles could be observed. For the most numerous MP group identified of multicoloured scraps, no such association was found. The results of our study can be used for further multivariate analysis regarding the presence of microplastic floating on the river surface, with a particular focus on particles of secondary origin. In the field of 2-D image processing and computer vision, accurately detecting and segmenting objects in scenarios where they overlap or are obscured remains a challenge. This difficulty is worse in the analysis of shoeprints used in forensic investigations because they are embedded in noisy environments such as the ground and can be indistinct. Traditional convolutional neural networks (CNNs), despite their success in various image analysis tasks, struggle with accurately delineating overlapping objects due to the complexity of segmenting intertwined textures and boundaries against a background of noise. This study introduces and employs the YOLO (You Only Look Once) model enhanced by edge detection and image segmentation techniques to improve the detection of overlapping shoeprints. By focusing on the critical boundary information between shoeprint textures and the ground, our method demonstrates improvements in sensitivity and precision, achieving confidence levels above 85% for minimally overlapped images and maintaining above 70% for extensively overlapped instances. Heatmaps of convolution layers were generated to show how the network converges towards successful detection using these enhancements. The complex systematics of the genus Sedum, the difficulties of its classification and the ambiguity of the concrete identification of the taxa brought about the need to implement a measurement system adaptable to field conditions, so as to facilitate the accuracy of data collection, avoiding the etiolation of samples and, therefore, the deterioration of the morphological structures subject to analysis. Thus, our study describes a digitization of the classic method of making measurements using millimeter paper, thus facilitating the subsequent statistical processing of quantifiable values. Depending on the number of pixels in the photos taken and the pixel/millimeter ratio, a variable measurement scale can be created depending on the size of the analyzed taxomes. The method used adds to the classic taxonomy, which is based on the analysis of morphological characteristics to determine the species of these succulent plants. Computer tomography (CT), combined with advanced image processing techniques, can be used to visualize the complex internal structures of living and non-living media in a non-destructive, intuitive, and precise manner in both two and three-dimensional spaces. Beyond its clinical uses, CT has been extensively employed within the field of geotechnical engineering to provide both qualitative and quantitative analyses of the microstructural properties of loess. This technology has been successfully applied in many fields. However, with the rapid development of CT technology and the expansion of its application scope, a reassessment is necessary. In recent years, only a few documents have attempted to organize and review the application cases of CT in the field of loess microstructure research. Therefore, the objectives of this work are as follows: (1) to briefly introduce the development process of CT equipment and the basic principles of CT and image processing; (2) to determine the current state and hotspots of CT technology research based on a bibliometric analysis of the literature from the past three decades in the Web of Science Core Collection and CNKI databases; and (3) to comprehensively review the application of CT to explore the microstructural characteristics (such as particle size, shape, arrangement, and the connectivity, orientation, and pore throats of pores, etc.) and the evolution of structural damage in loess within geotechnical science. The accurate distribution of joints on the tunnel face is crucial for assessing the stability and safety of surrounding rock during tunnel construction. This paper introduces the Mask R-CNN image segmentation algorithm, a state-of-the-art deep learning model, to achieve efficient and accurate identification and extraction of joints on tunnel face images. First, digital images of tunnel faces were captured and stitched, resulting in 286 complete images suitable for analysis. Then, the joints on the tunnel face were extracted using traditional image processing algorithms, the commonly used U-net image segmentation model, and the Mask R-CNN image segmentation model introduced in this paper to address the lack of recognition accuracy. Finally, the extraction results obtained by the three methods were compared. The comparison results show that the joint extraction method based on the Mask R-CNN image segmentation deep learning model introduced in this paper achieved the best joint extraction effect with a Dice similarity coefficient of 87.48%, outperforming traditional methods and the U-net model, which scored 60.59% and 75.36%, respectively, realizing accurate and efficient acquisition of tunnel face rock joints. This research undertakes an exhaustive exploration of the Auto Machine Learning-based approach (AutoML) to ascertain the source printer for microscopic printed image forensics. The primary focus is on enhancing precision and efficacy in a scenario with limited sample data, achieved by integrating traditional image processing methods with diverse AutoML representatives. The investigation involves a meticulous evaluation and comparative analysis of classical Machine Learning (ML) models and AutoML models in microscopic printed image forensics. Through extensive experiments, we highlight the inherent limitations of traditional models and underscore the compelling advantages offered by AutoML. Notably, we recognize AutoML's unique capability to discern varying degrees of uncertainty within printed patterns. The outcomes emphasize the prowess of Auto Machine Learning in improving the accuracy of printed image forensics, making it particularly promising for future research, especially given the tabular nature of the data and the imperative for a lightweight model suitable for embedded systems. Financial risk warning is a crucial technical issue for enterprises. Traditionally, it relied on modeling analysis of a single data type, which does not fully capture the diverse characteristics of financial risk activities. To address this, this paper introduces a multimodal deep learning framework driven by semantic analysis and image processing for intelligent warning of enterprise financial risks. Initially, natural language processing algorithms analyze textual data such as financial statements, news reports, and social media comments within the industry. Concurrently, two convolutional neural network models, M-CNN and M-RNN, extract features from images and chart data. These textual and visual feature representations are then fused to create a multimodal deep neural network framework. Extensive experimental evaluation and comparative analysis of the proposed framework were conducted. The results indicate that the financial risk rate of consumer fraud graph analysis varies significantly, displaying a fluctuating state with values ranging from 2.1% to 16.8%. Compared to other methods, the proposed approach demonstrates superior performance in financial risk warning tasks, with the risk rate increasing from 1.2% to 26.5% as it iterates from 1 to 6. Biofilms, comprised of cells embedded in extracellular matrix (ECM), enable bacterial surface colonization and contribute to pathogenesis and biofouling. Yet, antibacterial surfaces are mainly evaluated for their effect on bacterial cells rather than the ECM. Here, a method is presented to separately quantify amounts and distribution of cells and ECM in Salmonella biofilms grown on electroactive poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):polystyrenesulfonate (PEDOT:PSS). Within a custom‐designed biofilm reactor, biofilm forms on PEDOT:PSS surfaces electrically addressed with a bias potential and simultaneous recording of the resulting current. The amount and distribution of cells and ECM in biofilms are analyzed using a fluorescence‐based spectroscopic mapping technique and fluorescence confocal microscopy combined with advanced image processing. The study shows that surface charge leads to upregulated ECM production, leaving the cell counts largely unaffected. An altered texture is also observed, with biofilms forming small foci or more continuous structures. Supported by mutants lacking ECM production, ECM is identified as an important target when developing antibacterial strategies. Also, a central role for biofilm distribution is highlighted that likely influences antimicrobial susceptibility in biofilms. This work provides yet a link between conductive polymer materials and bacterial metabolism and reveals for the first time a specific effect of electrochemical addressing on bacterial ECM formation. This paper presents a practical method for analyzing drivers' eye movements, providing a valuable tool for understanding their behavior during driving simulations. The method, which utilizes an image processing technique, addresses the challenges when the driver's attention is on points without information about the image depth. The screen image changes or moves with the simulation. It allows us to identify the gaze position relative to the road, determining whether the glance is inside or outside. This is achieved by transforming RGB images (frames) collected by the eye-tracker video camera into a b/w image using the Canny filter. This filter can identify objects' contours by evaluating the change in color of their surfaces. A window is then applied to these new images to extract information about the gaze position in the real world. Four drivers were used as a sample for the method's testing. The findings demonstrate various driver variations and a disparity between driving in curved and rectilinear segments. The airlift pump is a key part of wastewater treatment and is employed as an innovative and feasible collection tool. However, as one of the key factors in the lifting capability of airlift pumps, film thickness in the gas–liquid two-phase flow operating in pumps is still an unknown topic because it is difficult to measure. This paper proposes a visualization method for measuring film thickness and investigates the film thickness when operating under gas flow with a high rate in airlift pumps using experiments. Firstly, a simulation experiment platform was built, and the images of the film structure were acquired by a high-speed camera. Then, image-processing technology and an image distortion correction were proposed to extract the gas–liquid interface for studying the thickness of the film. The experimental results demonstrated that a large film thickness ranging from 0.15 D to 0.24 D was found in airlift pumps and that its film thickness kept a constant value, even under a high gas superficial velocity, maintaining a large output liquid flow from airlift pumps. As wastewater was carried by wastewater treatment, a larger film thickness of the annular film will benefit the high lifting rate of wastewater. Sentinel-2 satellites are one of the major instruments in remote sensing (RS) technology that has revolutionized Earth observation research, as its main goal is to offer high-resolution satellite data for dynamic monitoring of Earth's surface and climate change detection amongst others. However, visual observation of Sentinel-2 satellite data has revealed that most images obtained during the winter season contain snow noise, posing a major challenge and impediment to satellite RS analysis of land surface. This singular effect hampers satellite signals from capturing important surface features within the geographical area of interest. Consequently, it leads to information loss, image processing problems due to contamination, and masking effects, all of which can reduce the accuracy of image analysis. In this study, we developed a snow-cover removal (SCR) model based on the Cycle-Consistent Adversarial Networks (CycleGANs) architecture. Data augmentation procedures were carried out to salvage the effect of the limited availability of Sentinel-2 image data. Sentinel-2 satellite images were used for model training and the development of a novel SCR model. The SCR model captures snow and other prominent features in the Sentinel-2 satellite image and then generates a new snow-free synthetic optical image that shares the same characteristics as the source satellite image. The snow-free synthetic images generated are evaluated to quantify their visual and semantic similarity with original snow-free Sentinel-2 satellite images by using different image qualitative metrics (IQMs) such as Structural Similarity Index Measure (SSIM), Universal image quality index (Q), and peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR). The estimated metric data shows that Q delivers more metric values, nearly 95%, than SSIM and PRSN. The methodology presented in this study could be beneficial for RS research in DL model development for environmental mapping and time series modeling. (1) Background: Previously, VESsel GENeration (VESGEN) software was used to map and quantify vascular changes observed on fluorescein angiography (FA) in subjects (n = 15 eyes) with retinal pathology ranging from mild non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR) to proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR). In the current study, we used VESGEN for the assessment of individuals with early-stage NPDR imaged by FA (Cohort 1) and by optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA; Cohort 2). (2) Methods: Cohort 1 included type 2 diabetics (T2D), represented 21 eyes (ranging from no DR to moderate DR), and also included nondiabetic controls (NDC; n = 15 eyes). Cohort 2 consisted of 23 eyes from T2D subjects (including no DR subjects and moderate DR subjects) and NDC (n = 18 eyes). (3) Results: In the FA-VESGEN study, total tortuosity (Tv) of microvessels (G ≥ 6) increased in T2D with mild DR compared to the controls. In contrast, the VESGEN analysis of OCTA images showed that vessel length (characterized as density) was lower in T2D subjects before the diagnosis of DR and following the diagnosis of DR when compared to the controls. Additionally, T2D showed a significant decrease in vessel area (density). (4) Conclusions: FA elucidated the vessel morphology of small-generation microvessels to a greater degree than OCTA; however, OCTA identified changes in vessel density better than FA. In particle image velocimetry (PIV) experiments, background noise inevitably exists in the particle images when a particle image is being captured or transmitted, which blurs the particle image, reduces the information entropy of the image, and finally makes the obtained flow field inaccurate. Taking a low-quality original particle image as the research object in this research, a frequency domain processing method based on wavelet decomposition and reconstruction was applied to perform particle image pre-processing. Information entropy analysis was used to evaluate the effect of image processing. The results showed that useful high-frequency particle information representing particle image details in the original particle image was effectively extracted and enhanced, and the image background noise was significantly weakened. Then, information entropy analysis of the image revealed that compared with the unprocessed original particle image, the reconstructed particle image contained more effective details of the particles with higher information entropy. When capturing images using drones, the resulting images undergo a process of segmentation and transformation, resulting in the identification of three distinct vectors that represent diseases. Due to its high rates of both mortality and morbidity, cancer stands as the primary cause of death globally. The examination of histopathological images plays a crucial role in the early prediction of cancer, relying on manual practices for each individual affected. However, this phase is prone to errors, time-consuming, and doesn't facilitate early-stage decision-making for pathologists. Despite significant advancements in computer-aided image processing, the analysis of histopathological morphology remains challenging due to the intricate nature of these images. Moreover, limited annotations restrict sample analysis. This work focuses on developing efficient deep-learning methods to analyze histopathological images by considering both global and local features. It involves the analysis of image patches and features to address issues related to image annotations. A unique task-specific slicing model, integrated with the convolutional network model (ts-CNN) is proposed. This framework aims to conduct patch-level feature examination and combine multiple samples to achieve the necessary outcomes for classification. The envisioned model aims to rectify inefficiencies present in various existing approaches. Using MATLAB 2020a, the proposed model was employed to classify cancer-based histopathological images, demonstrating superior predictive performance. The appearance of dried fruit clearly influences the consumer's perception of the quality of the product but is a subtle and nuanced characteristic that is difficult to quantitatively measure, especially online. This paper describes a method that combines several simple strategies to assess a suitable surrogate for the elusive quality using imaging, combined with multivariate statistics and machine learning. With such a convenient tool, this study also shows how one can vary the pretreatments and drying conditions to optimize the resultant product quality. Specifically, an image batch processing method was developed to extract color (hue, saturation, and value) and morphological (area, perimeter, and compactness) features. The accuracy of this method was verified using data from a case study experiment on the pretreatment of hot-air-dried kiwifruit slices. Based on the extracted image features, partial least squares and random forest models were developed to satisfactorily predict the moisture ratio (MR) during drying process. The MR of kiwifruit slices during drying could be accurately predicted from changes in appearance without using any weighing device. This study also explored determining the optimal drying strategy based on appearance quality using principal component analysis. Image segmentation and identification are crucial to modern medical image processing techniques. This research provides a novel and effective method for identifying and segmenting liver tumors from public CT images. Our approach leverages the hybrid ResUNet model, a combination of both the ResNet and UNet models developed by the Monai and PyTorch frameworks. The ResNet deep dense network architecture is implemented on public CT scans using the MSD Task03 Liver dataset. The novelty of our method lies in several key aspects. First, we introduce innovative enhancements to the ResUNet architecture, optimizing its performance, especially for liver tumor segmentation tasks. Additionally, by harassing the capabilities of Monai, we streamline the implementation process, eliminating the need for manual script writing and enabling faster, more efficient model development and optimization. The process of preparing images for analysis by a deep neural network involves several steps: data augmentation, a Hounsfield windowing unit, and image normalization. ResUNet network performance is measured by using the DC metric Dice coefficient. This approach, which utilizes residual connections, has proven to be more reliable than other existing techniques. This approach achieved DC values of 0.98% for detecting liver tumors and 0.87% for segmentation. Both qualitative and quantitative evaluations show promising results regarding model precision and accuracy. The implications of this research are that it could be used to increase the precision and accuracy of liver tumor detection and liver segmentation, reflecting the potential of the proposed method. The demand for less complex and more accurate architectures has always been a priority since the broad usage of computer vision in everyday life, like auto‐drive cars, portable applications, augmented reality systems, medical image analysis etc. There are a lot of methods that have been developed to improve the accuracy and complexity of object detection, like the generations of R‐CNNs and YOLOs. However, these methods are not the most efficient architectures, and there is always room to improve. In this study, the 5th version of YOLO is employed and the improved architecture, Inception‐YOLO, is presented. The model significantly outperforms the SOTA YOLO family. Specifically, the improvements can be summarised as follows: impressive improvement of floating point operations (FLOPs) and number of parameters, as well as improvement in accuracy compared to the models with fewer FLOPs. All our presented approaches, like the optimized inception module, proposed structures for CSP and SPPF, and the improved loss function used in this research, work together to incrementally improve detection results, accuracy, demanded memory, and FLOPs simultaneously. For a glimpse of performance, the Inception‐YOLO‐S model hits 38.7% AP with 5.9M parameters and 11.5 BFLOPs and outperforms YOLOv5‐S with 37.4% AP, 7.2M parameters, and 16.5 BFLOPs. Preventing fluid penetration poses a challenging reliability concern in the context of power electronics, which is usually caused by unforeseen microfractures along the sealing joints. A better and more reliable product design heavily depends on the understanding of the dynamic wetting processes happening inside these complex microfractures, i.e. microchannels. A novel automated image processing procedure is proposed in this work for analyzing the moving interface and the dynamic contact angle in microchannels. In particular, the developed method is advantageous for experiments involving non-transparent samples, where extracting the fluid interface geometry poses a significant challenge. The developed method is validated with theoretical values and manual measurements and exhibits high accuracy. The implementation is made publicly available. The developed method is validated and applied to experimental investigations of forced wetting with two working fluids (water and 50 wt% glycerin/water mixture) in four distinct microchannels characterized by different dimensions and curvature. The comparison between the experimental results and molecular kinetic theory (MKT) reveals that the dynamic wetting behavior can be described well by MKT, even in highly curved microchannels. Introduction: The scapholunate interosseous ligament is pivotal for wrist stability, and its impairment can result in instability and joint degeneration. This study explores the application of real-time MRI for dynamic assessment of the scapholunate joint during wrist motion with the objective of determining its diagnostic value in efficacy in contrast to static imaging modalities. Materials and Methods: Ten healthy participants underwent real-time MRI scans during wrist ab/adduction and fist-clenching maneuvers. Measurements were obtained at proximal, medial, and distal landmarks on both dynamic and static images with statistical analyses conducted to evaluate the reliability of measurements at each landmark and the concordance between dynamic measurements and established static images. Additionally, inter- and intraobserver variabilities were evaluated. Results: Measurements of the medial landmarks demonstrated the closest agreement with static images and exhibited the least scatter. Distal landmark measurements showed a similar level of agreement but with increased scatter. Proximal landmark measurements displayed substantial deviation, which was accompanied by an even greater degree of scatter. Although no significant differences were observed between the ab/adduction and fist-clenching maneuvers, both inter- and intraobserver variabilities were significant across all measurements. Conclusions: This study highlights the potential of real-time MRI in the dynamic assessment of the scapholunate joint particularly at the medial landmark. Despite promising results, challenges such as measurement variability need to be addressed. Standardization and integration with advanced image processing methods could significantly enhance the accuracy and reliability of real-time MRI, paving the way for its clinical implementation in dynamic wrist imaging studies. Mapping neural connections within the brain has been a fundamental goal in neuroscience to understand better its functions and changes that follow aging and diseases. Developments in imaging technology, such as microscopy and labeling tools, have allowed researchers to visualize this connectivity through high-resolution brain-wide imaging. With this, image processing and analysis have become more crucial. However, despite the wealth of neural images generated, access to an integrated image processing and analysis pipeline to process these data is challenging due to scattered information on available tools and methods. To map the neural connections, registration to atlases and feature extraction through segmentation and signal detection are necessary. In this review, our goal is to provide an updated overview of recent advances in these image-processing methods, with a particular focus on fluorescent images of the mouse brain. Our goal is to outline a pathway toward an integrated image-processing pipeline tailored for connecto-informatics. An integrated workflow of these image processing will facilitate researchers' approach to mapping brain connectivity to better understand complex brain networks and their underlying brain functions. By highlighting the image-processing tools available for fluroscent imaging of the mouse brain, this review will contribute to a deeper grasp of connecto-informatics, paving the way for better comprehension of brain connectivity and its implications. Introduction: During the last few years, a heightened interest has been shown in classifying scene images depicting diverse robotic environments. The surge in interest can be attributed to significant improvements in visual sensor technology, which has enhanced image analysis capabilities. Methods: Advances in vision technology have a major impact on the areas of multiple object detection and scene understanding. These tasks are an integral part of a variety of technologies, including integrating scenes in augmented reality, facilitating robot navigation, enabling autonomous driving systems, and improving applications in tourist information. Despite significant strides in visual interpretation, numerous challenges persist, encompassing semantic understanding, occlusion, orientation, insufficient availability of labeled data, uneven illumination including shadows and lighting, variation in direction, and object size and changing background. To overcome these challenges, we proposed an innovative scene recognition framework, which proved to be highly effective and yielded remarkable results. First, we perform preprocessing using kernel convolution on scene data. Second, we perform semantic segmentation using UNet segmentation. Then, we extract features from these segmented data using discrete wavelet transform (DWT), Sobel and Laplacian, and textual (local binary pattern analysis). To recognize the object, we have used deep belief network and then find the object-to-object relation. Finally, AlexNet is used to assign the relevant labels to the scene based on recognized objects in the image. Results: The performance of the proposed system was validated using three standard datasets: PASCALVOC-12, Cityscapes, and Caltech 101. The accuracy attained on the PASCALVOC-12 dataset exceeds 96% while achieving a rate of 95.90% on the Cityscapes dataset. Discussion: Furthermore, the model demonstrates a commendable accuracy of 92.2% on the Caltech 101 dataset. This model showcases noteworthy advancements beyond the capabilities of current models. This study presents a responsive analysis of the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in risk management, contrasting traditional approaches with those augmented by AI and highlighting the challenges and opportunities that emerge. AI, intense learning methodologies such as convolutional neural networks (CNNs), have been identified as pivotal in extracting meaningful insights from image data, a form of analysis that holds significant potential in identifying and managing risks across various industries. The research methodology involves a strategic selection and processing of images for analysis and introduces three case studies that serve as benchmarks for evaluation. These case studies showcase the application of AI, in place of image processing capabilities, to identify hazards, evaluate risks, and suggest control measures. The current study is focused on a novel methodology that removes the artifacts after automated segmentation of micrographs using some efficient image processing techniques from three dual-phase (DP) steel microstructures with varying martensite morphologies (islands, blocky and banded, and fine and fibrous martensite). Microstructures of DP steel consisting of martensite and ferrite phases were binarized by the Otsu thresholding algorithm, where the threshold value is automatically selected from the gray-level histogram. Subsequently, the artifact is removed by different modes, such as horizontally, vertically, and diagonal traverse manners, separately and in the combinations of all possible traverse manners, through AND operation. Optical micrographs were chosen for image analysis since the low-cost optical microscope is easily portable and effortlessly usable over a large area. The results have been validated with AxioVision commercial metallographic image analyzing software. The proposed scheme has successfully produced artifact-free binarized images of DP steel microstructures. With the continuous progress of science and technology, image processing techniques have been used increasingly in recent years. Image processing plays an indispensable role in the fields of computer vision, artificial intelligence, pattern recognition, and related fields. Improvements in basic algorithms and the development of new algorithms have resulted in considerable innovation and progress. This paper is devoted to finding new game applications in a branch of image processing. It introduces an analysis model proposed by the author and discusses the relationship between roughness in the frequency domain and visual image interpretation. By using the concept of roughness, we separated the image features into meaningful information and residual information and analysed the image in the frequency domain. The results were compared with those of traditional image processing methods. The starting point is the visual identification of a feature based on human interpretation. The image information was separated into meaningful features and the residual component to reduce the redundancy of the model. This allowed for a sparse representation of the feature information in the image. By analysing the meaningful features and residual components of an image separately, we established a relationship between the results and the original images. Parameters such as texture, morphology, and the degree of blurring were considered and we developed a parameter called "frequency roughness". The algorithm incorporates the concepts of frequency and roughness and the roughness is determined in the frequency domain. The frequency roughness algorithm successfully separated the rough features in the frequency domain and calculated the residual value in an image. This model provided more accurate image processing results than comparable methods. This paper includes an analysis and game applications of the proposed model for de-blurring, image enhancement, recognition, and other image processing tasks. Pre-flight inspection and maintenance are essential prerequisites for aviation safety. This study focused on developing a real-time monitoring system designed to assess the condition of composite material structures on the exterior of aircraft. Implementing such a system can reduce operational costs, enhance flight safety, and increase aircraft availability. This study aims to detect defects in aircraft fuselages manufactured from composite materials by applying image visual recognition technology. This study integrated a drone and an infrared camera for real-time image transmission to ground stations. MATLAB image analysis software (MATLAB 2020b) was used to analyze infrared (IR) images and detect structural defects in the aircraft's appearance. This methodology was based on the inspection of damaged engine cowlings. The developed approach compares composite material conditions with known defects before and after repair, considering mechanical performance, defect size, and strength. Simultaneously, tests were conducted on various composite material panels with unknown defects, yielding favorable results. This study underscores an integrated system offering rapid detection, real-time feedback, and analysis, effectively reducing time, and potential hazards associated with high-altitude operations. The valuable saffron metabolites have encouraged researchers to study their laboratory production. In this study, two experiments have been designed to optimize saffron corm callogenesis in-vitro conditions and assessed the application of image analysis to address some characteristics of calli without cell destruction. Effect of physiological age of the corm, different types of media, and plant growth regulators (PGRs) with different concentrations as independent variables were investigated on cell growth index, the redness intensity (a*value) of callus and the percentage of black spot as dependent variables. Results showed that the mature corm-derived explants on Gamborg (B5) medium create the best callogenesis and production of red-colored cells with the least black spot. It was also revealed that naphthalene acetic acid (NAA), (2 mg/L) in combination with 6-Benzylaminopurine (BA) (1 mg/L) increased the growth index to 1.14. In contrast, the combination of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), (2 mg/L) or indole-3-butyric acid (IBA), (10 mg/L) with kinetin (KIN), (1 mg/L) was the most effective PGRs for the production of red cells. The HPLC results confirmed that the red color of the calli was related to crocin presence. It is concluded that although the cultivation of saffron mature corms in the B5 medium is the most suitable option for biomass growth and crocin production, the choice of PGRs varies depending on the purpose of the culture (biomass or crocin production). Due to the high abrasiveness and anisotropic nature of composites, along with the need to machine different materials at the same time, drilling multi-materials is a difficult task, and usually results in material damage, such as uncut fibres and delamination, hindering hole functionality and reliability. Image processing and analysis algorithms can be developed to effectively assess such damage, allowing for the calculation of delamination factors essential to the quality control of hole inspection in composite materials. In this study, a digital image processing and analysis algorithm was developed in Python to perform the delamination evaluation of drilled holes on a carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) and aluminium (Al) multi-material. This algorithm was designed to overcome several limitations often found in other algorithms developed with similar purposes, which frequently lead to user mistakes and incorrect results. The new algorithm is easy to use and, without requiring manual pre-editing of the input images, is fully automatic, provides more complete and reliable results (such as the delamination factor), and is a free-of-charge software. For example, the delamination factors of two drilled holes were calculated using the new algorithm and one previously developed in Matlab. Using the previous Matlab algorithm, the delamination factors of the two holes were 1.380 and 2.563, respectively, and using the new Python algorithm, the results were equal to 3.957 and 3.383, respectively. Background: Plants are known to be infected by a wide range of pathogenic microbes. To study plant diseases caused by microbes, it is imperative to be able to monitor disease symptoms and microbial colonization in a quantitative and objective manner. In contrast to more traditional measures that use manual assignments of disease categories, image processing provides a more accurate and objective quantification of plant disease symptoms. Besides monitoring disease symptoms, computational image processing provides additional information on the spatial localization of pathogenic microbes in different plant tissues. Results: Here we report on an image analysis tool called ScAnalyzer to monitor disease symptoms and bacterial spread in Arabidopsis thaliana leaves. Thereto, detached leaves are assembled in a grid and scanned, which enables automated separation of individual samples. A pixel color threshold is used to segment healthy (green) from chlorotic (yellow) leaf areas. The spread of luminescence-tagged bacteria is monitored via light-sensitive films, which are processed in a similar manner as the leaf scans. We show that this tool is able to capture previously identified differences in susceptibility of the model plant A. thaliana to the bacterial pathogen Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris. Moreover, we show that the ScAnalyzer pipeline provides a more detailed assessment of bacterial spread within plant leaves than previously used methods. Finally, by combining the disease symptom values with bacterial spread values from the same leaves, we show that bacterial spread precedes visual disease symptoms. Conclusion: Taken together, we present an automated script to monitor plant disease symptoms and microbial spread in A. thaliana leaves. The process of image fusion is the process of enriching an image and improving the image's quality, so as to facilitate the subsequent image processing and analysis. With the increasing importance of image fusion technology, the fusion of infrared and visible images has received extensive attention. In today's deep learning environment, deep learning is widely used in the field of image fusion. However, in some applications, it is not possible to obtain a large amount of training data. Because some special organs of snakes can receive and process infrared information and visible information, the fusion method of infrared and visible light to simulate the visual mechanism of snakes came into being. Therefore, this paper takes into account the perspective of visual bionics to achieve image fusion; such methods do not need to obtain a significant amount of training data. However, most of the fusion methods for simulating snakes face the problem of unclear details, so this paper combines this method with a pulse coupled neural network (PCNN). By studying two receptive field models of retinal nerve cells, six dual-mode cell imaging mechanisms of rattlesnakes and their mathematical models and the PCNN model, an improved fusion method of infrared and visible images was proposed. For the proposed fusion method, eleven groups of source images were used, and three non-reference image quality evaluation indexes were compared with seven other fusion methods. Cancer Stem Cells presumably drive tumor growth and resistance to conventional cancer treatments. From a previous computational model, we inferred that these cells are not uniformly distributed in the bulk of a tumorsphere. To confirm this result, we cultivated tumorspheres enriched in stem cells, and performed immunofluorescent detection of the stemness marker SOX2 using confocal microscopy. In this article, we present an image processing method that reconstructs the amount and location of the Cancer Stem Cells in the spheroids. Its advantage is the use of a statistical criterion to classify the cells in Stem and Differentiated, instead of setting an arbitrary threshold. Moreover, the analysis of the experimental images presented in this work agrees with the results from our computational models, thus enforcing the notion that the distribution of Cancer Stem Cells in a tumorsphere is non-homogeneous. Stroke management employs a variety of diagnostic imaging modalities, image processing and analysis methods, and treatment procedures. This work categorizes methods for stroke imaging, image processing and analysis, and treatment, and provides their taxonomies illustrated by a state-of-the-art review. Imaging plays a critical role in stroke management, and the most frequently employed modalities are computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR). CT includes unenhanced non-contrast CT as the first-line diagnosis, CT angiography, and CT perfusion. MR is the most complete method to examine stroke patients. MR angiography is useful to evaluate the severity of artery stenosis, vascular occlusion, and collateral flow. Diffusion-weighted imaging is the gold standard for evaluating ischemia. MR perfusion-weighted imaging assesses the penumbra. The stroke image processing methods are divided into non-atlas/template-based and atlas/template-based. This research possesses the producing and taking the assessment of a new deep learning structure, namely, Deep Convolutional BiLSTM Hybrid Network, specialized for arrhythmia recognition before ECG records. Through PhysioNet Challenge 2021 dataset, which has collected different styles of the ECG recordings from nine different arrhythmia types, this study is trying to respond to the critical need that non-attendant and accurate arrhythmia detection is required in the medical field. By utilizing both convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM) units that allow our model to carry out spatial and temporal operations, which is essential to the native dynamics existing ECG signal, we are able to get in view a more fine-grained analysis surpassing other traditional approaches. The suggested algorithm which has achieved accuracy, precision, recall, and F-score of 98.5%, 98.2%, 98.2%, and 98.4% percent respectively has proven to be a novel and more accurate solution compared to the existing state-of-the-art model when similar kinds of tasks are performed. Image segmentation is one important process in image analysis and computer vision and is a valuable tool that can be applied in fields of image processing, health care, remote sensing, and traffic image detection. Given the lack of prior knowledge of the ground truth, unsupervised learning techniques like clustering have been largely adopted. Fuzzy clustering has been widely studied and successfully applied in image segmentation. In situations such as limited spatial resolution, poor contrast, overlapping intensities, and noise and intensity inhomogeneities, fuzzy clustering can retain much more information than the hard clustering technique. Most fuzzy clustering algorithms have originated from fuzzy c‐means (FCM) and have been successfully applied in image segmentation. However, the cluster prototype of the FCM method is hyperspherical or hyperellipsoidal. FCM may not provide the accurate partition in situations where data consists of arbitrary shapes. Therefore, a Fuzzy C‐Regression Model (FCRM) using spatial information has been proposed whose prototype is hyperplaned and can be either linear or nonlinear allowing for better cluster partitioning. Thus, this paper implements FCRM and applies the algorithm to color segmentation using Berkeley's segmentation database. Medical image processing has been used in medical image analysis for many years and has achieved great success. However, one challenge is that medical image processing algorithms ineffectively utilize multi-modality characteristics to further extract features. To address this issue, we propose SSGNet based on UNet, which comprises a selective multi-scale receptive field (SMRF) module, a selective kernel self-attention (SKSA) module, and a skip connection attention module (SCAM). The SMRF and SKSA modules have the same function but work in different modality groups. SMRF functions in the T1 and T1ce modality groups, while SKSA is implemented in the T2 and FLAIR modality groups. Their main tasks are to reduce the image size by half, further extract fused features within the groups, and prevent information loss during downsampling. The SCAM uses high-level features to guide the selection of low-level features in skip connections. To improve performance, SSGNet also utilizes deep supervision. Multiple experiments were conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of our model on the BraTS2018 dataset. SSGNet achieved Dice coefficient scores for the whole tumor (WT), tumor core (TC), and enhancing tumor (ET) of 91.04, 86.64, and 81.11, respectively. Purpose: Glioblastoma is the most common type of primary brain malignancy and has a poor prognosis. The standard treatment strategy is based on maximal safe surgical resection followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Surgical resection can be optimized by using 5-delta-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA)-induced fluorescence, which is the current mainstay. Although 5-ALA-induced fluorescence has gained general acceptance, it is also limited by inter-observer variability and non-standardized fluorescence parameters. We present a new software for processing images analysis to better recognize the tumor infiltration margins using an intraoperative immediate safety map of 5-ALA-induced fluorescence. We tested this in a brainmodel using a commercial surgical exoscope. Methods: A dedicated software GLIOVIS (ACQuF-II, Advanced Colorimetrybased Quantification of Fluorescence) was designed for processing analysis of images taken on the Intraoperative Orbital Camera Olympus Orbeye (IOC) to determine the relative quantification of Protoporphyrin IX (5-ALA metabolite) fluorescence. The software allows to superpose the new fluorescence intensity map and the safety margins over the original images. The software was tested on gel-based brain models. Results: Two surrogate models were developed: PpIX agarose gel-integrated in gelatin-based brain model at different scales (1:25 and 1:1). The images taken with the IOC were then processed using GLIOVIS. The intensity map and safety margins could be obtained for all available models. Conclusions: GLIOVIS for 5-ALA-guided surgery image processing was validated on various gelatin-based brain models. Different levels of fluorescence could be qualitatively digitalized using this technique. A 3D modeling of the distribution of silicon carbide particles of different sizes and filling percentages in the surface layer of the aluminum alloy was carried out. Moisture damage resistance assessment in asphalt mixtures traditionally relies on the tensile strength ratio (TSR) method, which may not capture the complex behavior of asphalt under moisture ingress. This study proposes an innovative multifaceted approach for assessing moisture susceptibility, challenging the overreliance on TSR, and integrating multiple intricate aspects of asphalt behavior. Employing two dense-graded and one gap-graded polymer-modified binder mixtures with nominal maximum aggregate size (NMAS) of 13 and 19 mm, the study defines threshold values for total air voids, effective air voids, indirect tensile strength, and percentage density change. Evaluations were conducted using a device selected for its dynamic capabilities in inducing stresses and creating pore pressure under elevated temperatures. This research proposes a new zone-based approach to classify mixtures as moisture-resistant, partially moisture-resistant, or moisture-susceptible. This innovative method, grounded on maximum effective air voids and percentage density change, offers nuanced insights for more accurate moisture resistance assessments. Furthermore, the study explores the effect of effective air void size on moisture damage resistance by image processing for dense and gap-graded gradation of 13.2 NMAS, unveiling clogging behavior especially in dense-graded mixture due to smallest pore size. In conclusion, the study provides an in-depth understanding of asphalt mixture behavior under moisture ingress. By offering a novel approach that integrates multiple parameters and extends beyond the conventional TSR approach, it contributes a practical solution for mitigating moisture damage in asphalt mixtures. This article proposes µSHD as a systematic and quantitative approach to spectra and image data in the field of MFA. The advantages of this approach lie in that it originates from the understanding of the mathematics behind AI and thus eliminates the large computation cost from DCNNs. Note that the focus of this article is only on understanding and benchmarking the role that µSHD plays in different MFA applications. Concrete routes for employing µSHD directly as the quantitative descriptor for supervised and unsupervised machine learning have been discussed. Manufacturers of MFA equipment can certainly utilize the µSHD tool to automate and improve their characterization techniques and image processing and analysis protocols. Autonomous navigation within airport environments presents significant challenges, mostly due to the scarcity of accessible and labeled data for training autonomous systems. This study introduces an innovative approach to assess the performance of vision-based models trained on synthetic datasets, with the goal of determining whether simulated data can train and validate navigation operations in complex airport environments. The methodology includes a comparative analysis employing image processing techniques and object detection algorithms. A comparative analysis of two different datasets was conducted: a synthetic dataset that mirrors real airport scenarios, generated using the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020®video game, and a real-world dataset. The results indicate that models trained on a combination of both real and synthetic images perform much better in terms of adaptability and accuracy compared to those trained only on one type of dataset. This analysis makes a significant contribution to the field of autonomous airport navigation and offers a cost-effective and practical solution to overcome the challenges of dataset acquisition and algorithm validation.
