The promotion of urban mobility by integrating people-and-goods transportation has attracted increasing attention in recent years. Within this framework, diversified forms such as co-modality, freight on transit, and crowdshipping have been proposed, piloted or implemented. The success of the implementation and market penetration depends on not only the novelties of the concept but also the planning and operational efficiency. Thus, a comprehensive review focusing on the operation of integrated people-and-goods transportation systems and associated critical decisions and subproblems is performed. Different practical forms in which people and goods are transported in an integrated manner are identified. The critical decisions associated with each form and subproblem are discussed, along with corresponding models and solution approaches. Notably, because integrated transportation systems are in the early exploration stage at present, new forms are expected to emerge. Therefore, this paper proposes a general framework to realise the planning and operation of new forms in the future. The decisions and subproblems identified from existing forms are fed to the proposed general framework to identify two key research opportunities: to improve or extend existing research and to conduct pioneering research to fill the gaps in the frameworks for operating potential forms of integrated people-and-goods transportation. With the development of peripheral nerve tissue engineering, study of biodegradable materials have extensive applied prospect. Chitosan (Cs) is a promising candidate for neural tissue engineering due to its similar chemical structure to glycosaminoglycan. However, due to its lack of elasticity and flexibility, Cs often needs to be used in combination with other materials. In this study, three composite scaffolds were prepared by freeze-drying method: Cs/hyaluronic acid (HA)/gelatin (Gel), Cs/collagen (Col), and Cs/polyethylene glycol (PEG). Mechanical properties, swelling behavior, porosity, and conductivity of these materials have been characterized. Compared with pure Cs, the addition of other materials reduced the average pore size, while improved the mechanical properties of the composite scaffold. Furthermore, 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT), live/dead staining, cell morphology, and immunofluorescence staining were performed to evaluate the cytotoxicity, biocompatibility, and differentiation of rat pheochromocytoma (PC12) cells on Cs/HA/Gel, Cs/Col, and Cs/PEG composite scaffolds. Our results indicated that all these Cs-based composite scaffolds had good biocompatibility without cytotoxicity, while Cs/PEG scaffolds possessed higher cell survival rate and could promote the adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation of PC12 cells. AbstractBackground and ObjectiveMethodsResultsConclusionsAsthma is a heterogeneous respiratory disease characterized by airway hyper-responsiveness and reversible airflow blockage. There is ongoing debate about the impact of vitamin D on asthma. This research is focused on investigating the correlation between serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D and asthma.This cross-sectional study comprised 22,708 eligible participants. Data on asthma and serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2011–2018 were analyzed. Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels were the main factor, with the presence of asthma as the outcome variable. Weighted logistic regression was utilized to investigate the relationship between serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D and asthma, while accounting for factors such as age, gender, race, length of time in US, annual family income, education level, high-density lipoprotein, low-density lipoprotein, triglycerides, and cholesterol.Upon adjusting all variables in model III, epi-25-hydroxyvitamin D3 displayed a negative correlation with current asthma at the lower quartile Q1 (0.784, [0.697 to 0.922]), Q2 (0.841, [0.729 to 0.946]), Q3 (0.396, [0.240 to 0.653]) when compared to the highest quartile Q4 level. However, no significant difference was observed between asthma and 25-hydroxyvitamin D2, as well as 25-hydroxyvitamin D3.In the U.S. population, elevated levels of epi-25-hydroxyvitamin D3 are correlated with an increased risk of developing existing asthma. Shiitake (Lentinula edodes) is well-known for its distinct flavor and texture as well as its medicinal and nutritional properties. Small good grade fresh shiitake mushrooms are highly perishable and have a low commodity value in the Taiwan market. As a result, these are frequently used as raw materials for vacuum-fried crisps. However, manufacturers continue to use traditional maltose (MO) syrup with no functional properties as a sweetener, and shiitake stipes are frequently discarded, increasing production costs. Isomalto-oligosaccharide (IMO) is a functional oligosaccharide sweetener with health benefits. The purpose of this research is to study the use of functional IMO in the processing of shiitake crisps to replace MO, and the reusability of stipes. In the manufacture of vacuum-fried shiitake cap and stipe crisps, the 30–40°Brix IMO syrup replaces the 35°Brix MO syrup. Vacuum-fried crisps' quality characteristics were determined using physicochemical and sensory evaluation. The results showed that centrifuged caps and stipes reach equilibrium after 3 h of being soaked in various concentrations of 90–95°C syrup. The L*, a*, b*, h*, and c* values for the cap crisps decreased with the increase in the level of IMO syrup. The breaking force for the stipe crisps was less than that for cap crisps. The crude protein and crude fat content of vacuum-fried cap and stipe crisps decreased as the level of IMO syrup increased, but the carbohydrate content increased. For a nine-point hedonic test, the sensory scores for cap and stipe crisps without seasoning powder were 6.9–7.4 and 6.1–6.5, respectively. Addition of seasoning powder increased the flavor and overall scores to 8.1–8.2 and 7.2–7.4, respectively. Overall, the addition of IMO syrup reduced the calories and increased the health benefits of vacuum-fried shiitake crisps. Nigakialcohol A (1), as unusual cyclization ionone derivative, together with eight known ones (2–9), were isolated from the leaves of Picrasma quassioides (D. Don) Benn (Simaroubaceae). Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analyses and comparison with literature data. Compound 2 showed a weak inhibitory effect on NO production at non-cytotoxic concentration (100 μM) with inhibitory rate of 59%, and thus it should be regarded as potential anti-inflammatory agents. A new diterpenoid, 17-methyl-8, 13-labdadien-15, 16-olid-19-oic acid methyl ester (1), along with two known compounds 2 and 3, were isolated from the leaves of Platycladus orientalis (L.) Franco. The solubility of valsartan in ethyl acetate + (butanone, isopropyl ether) binary solvent mixtures was measured at temperaturesT = 278.15–323.15 K and pressurep = 0.1 MPa with a laser monitoring dynamic technique by a synthetic method. The experimental data were regressed by the modified Apelblat equation, the general single model and the hybrid model. The experimental data are well correlated with the above models because the mean deviations (MDs) are less than 3.79%. The mole fraction solubility of valsartan increases with increase in temperature and enrichment in butanone content, while it decreases with increased mole fraction of isopropyl ether at constant temperature. In addition, thermodynamic studies, including Gibbs energy, entropy and enthalpy, were calculated by van’t Hoff analysis. Fifty-eight phenolic compounds isolated from Phyllanthus emblica were screened and compared for their in vitro and in vivo antioxidant properties, as well as hyaluronidase (HAase) inhibitory activities. Among them, 20 compounds showed to be promising antioxidants due to the stronger scavenging activity in both DPPH radical and Danio rerio reactive oxygen species assays, while nine compounds were potential HAase inhibitors with 100-fold stronger activities than that of the positive control, DSCG. The addition of copper chlorophyll and its derivatives (Cu-Chl) to vegetable oils to disguise them as more expensive oils, such as virgin olive oils, would not only create public confusion, but also disturb the olive oil market. Given that existing detection methods of Ch-Chl in oils, such as LC-MS are costly and time consuming, it is imperative to develop economical and fast analytical techniques to provide information quickly. This paper demonstrates a rapid analytical method based on surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) to detect Cu-Chl in vegetable oils; the spectroscopic markers of Cu-Chl are presented and a detection limit of 5 mg kg−1is demonstrated. The analysis of a series of commercial vegetable oils is undertaken with this method and the results verified by a government agency. In this paper, the hybrid composite of NiO quantum dots (QDs) ∼2 nm in diameter embedded in reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanosheets with an average thickness of 1 nm was synthesized by a one-pot facile wet chemical method. The cost was reduced using NiO instead of Ag NPs, and the embedded NiO QDs can prevent the rGO sheets from aggregation, maintaining their high surface area and active sites. The NiO-rGO composite was used as adsorbent for phage f2 and MS2, and the adsorption capacity could be up to 107PFU/mg with removal efficiency for MS2 up to ∼90 % in 30 minutes, while that for f2 up to ∼80% in 20 minutes. The composite also showed antibacterial properties towards E. coli. Paper disk diffusion assay, MIC and MBC tests revealed good antibacterial properties of the NiO-rGO composite.
