This study examined the effects of Sisimpurâ”the Bangladeshi co-production of Sesame Streetâ”on the skills and knowledge of preschool-aged children (from 4 to 6 years old at baseline) in a national sample (N = 2,063). Using a longitudinal, three-wave panel design, researchers examined the relation between exposure to Sisimpur and children's literacy, math, and socio-cultural knowledge. Analyses revealed robust associations between exposure and outcomes. Children with greater exposure consistently performed better than those with less exposure in tests of literacy, math, and socio-cultural knowledge. Furthermore, watching Sisimpur seems to confer the greatest benefit to the children who are neediest: those in rural areas and lower-income urban households. Exposure to Sisimpur is also related to increasing gains in skills over time, above and beyond the gains that might be expected with developmental maturation. This study offers strong evidence of Sisimpur's educational benefits for young Bangladeshi children. ..PAT.-Unpublished Manuscript [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
