In this paper, the line segment tracking is considered for an imaging system with translational motions (T.M.), rotational motions (R.M.) and arbitrary motions. Assuming a CCD camera with an arbitrary tilt angle installed on a mobile robot equipped with odometry system, to reduce the search space in the correspondence problem, two constraints are developed. These constraints are location and orientation differences (O.D.) for line segments in consecutive images. The findings of this paper include: 1)The development of the effect of camera tilt on the location constraint for T.M., 2)Illustrating that the upper bound of O.D. for both horizontal and vertical lines with respect to the floor, is a function of tilt in T.M., which can considerably be reduced and thus providing a tight constraint, 3)The development of the location constraint for R.M., 4) The development of the PDF and upper bound of O.D. for R.M., 5) The development of the location and O.D. constraint for arbitrary motions. This paper presents a new description of image edge in the form of asymptote equation utilizing knowledge of differential geometry, and modifies a popular parlance in the traditional image processing. This paper develops the gradient concept and defines a generalized grads operator. The operator is a novel nonlinear transform, which inherits the strongpoint of noise suppression from the classical Gaussian differential filter and has a better edge extraction function. The paper proposes a method to control the motion orbit of a cartoon object based on chaos theory. We first propose an adaptive delaying feedback controlling method which can control the Lorenz system to generate periodic, quasi-periodic and chaotic orbits. Then we apply our method to the topic of cartoon object motion controlling. It can enrich the motion type of the object thus enhances the visual effect of the cartoon video. The experiments validate the controlling results of the proposed method. Our research leads to a new area in which the chaotic theory is applied in the field of multimedia processing. A Personal Assistant (PA) agent is a software agent capable of helping people to handle tasks in their workplace. The paper proposes a memory mechanism for personal assistant agents in order to enhance agent intelligence while working with the user or with other agents. Inspired by a case memory model in the domain of Case-Based Reasoning (CBR), this paper endows PA agents with a case memory mechanism, which results in improved PA agents: MemoPAs. A top-down experimental procedure for defect type recognition of epoxy-resin transformers by Partial Discharge (PD) is proposed. Most of the PD detection methods could be performed only at the shutdown period of equipments. By using Acoustic Emission (AE), the real-time and online detection could be reachable. Therefore, this paper conducted high voltage test of pre-faulty transformers and measured those PD signals for recognition needed. Afterward, the selected features that proposed in this paper can be extracted from these collected PD signals. According to these features, effective identification of their faulty types can be done using the proposed particle swarm optimization combined with neural network. Finally, with a view to apply in field, this research adds different noise levels to distort the original data. These distorted data are entered for subsequent testing. Electromagnetism-like algorithm (EM) is a population-based meta-heuristic which has been proposed to solve continuous problems effectively. In this paper, we present a new meta-heuristic that uses the EM methodology to solve the single machine scheduling problem. Single machine scheduling is a combinatorial optimization problem. Schedule representation for our problem is based on random keys. Because there is little research in solving the combinatorial optimization problem (COP) by EM, the paper attempts to employ the random-key concept enabling EM to solve COP in single machine scheduling problem. We present a hybrid algorithm that combines the EM methodology and genetic operators to obtain the best/optimal schedule for this single machine scheduling problem, which attempts to achieve convergence and diversity effect when they iteratively solve the problem. The objective in our problem is minimization of the sum of earliness and tardiness. This hybrid algorithm was tested on a set of standard test problems available in the literature. PVM (Parallel virtual machine) library is a tool which used processes large amounts of data sets. This paper wants to achieve a high performance solution that exploits PVM library and parallel computers to solve ICA (Independent Component Analysis) problem. The paper presents parallel power ICA implementations to decomposition data sets. Power iteration (PI) is an algorithm for independent component analysis, which has some desired features. It has higher performance and data capacity than current sequential implementations. Upon close examination of a set of industrial data from a large scale power plant, time varying behavior are discovered. If a fixed model is applied to monitor this process, false alarms will be inevitable. This paper suggests the use of adaptive models to cope with such situation. A recently proposed technique, fast algorithm for Moving Window Principal Component Analysis (MWPCA) was employed because of its following strength: (i) the ability in adapting process changes, (ii) the conceptual simplicity, and (iii) its computational efficiency. Its advances in fault detection is demonstrated in the paper by comparing with the conventional PCA. In this paper, global exponential stability of Cohen-Grossberg neural networks with reaction-diffusion and Dirichlet boundary conditions is considered by using an approach based on the delay differential inequality and the fixed-point theorem. Some sufficient conditions are obtained to guarantee that the reaction-diffusion Cohen-Grossberg neural networks are globally exponentially stable. This paper analyzes global convergence and learning parameters of the back-propagation algorithm for quadratic functions. Some global convergence conditions of the steepest descent algorithm are obtained by directly analyzing the exact momentum equations for quadratic cost functions. In addition, in order to guarantee the convergence for a given learning task, the method is obtained to choose the proper learning parameters. The automatic relevance determination (ARD) shows good performance in many applications. Recently, it has been applied to brain current estimation with the variational method. Although people who use the ARD tend to pay attention to one benefit of the ARD, sparsity, we, in this paper, focus on another benefit, generalization. In this paper, we clarify the generalization error of the ARD in the case that a class of prior distributions is used, and show that good generalization is caused by singularities of the ARD. This paper presents iris recognition for personal identification using neural networks. Iris recognition system consists of localization of the iris region and generation of data set of iris images and then iris pattern recognition. One of the problems in iris recognition is fast and accurate localization of the iris image. In this paper, fast algorithm is used for the localization of the inner and outer boundaries of the iris region. Located iris is extracted from an eye image, and, after normalization and enhancement it is represented by a data set. Using this data set a neural network is applied for the classification of iris patterns. Results of simulations illustrate the effectiveness of the neural system in personal identification. The paper presents new developments in an extension of Codd's relational model of data. The extension consists in equipping domains of attribute values with a similarity relation and adding ranks to rows of a database table. This way, the concept of a table over domains (i.e., relation over a relation scheme) of the classical Codd's model extends to the concept of a ranked table over domains with similarities. When all similarities are ordinary identity relations and all ranks are set to 1, our extension becomes the ordinary Codd's model. The main contribution of our paper is twofold. First, we present an outline of a relational algebra for our extension. Second, we deal with implementation issues of our extension. The aim of this paper is to introduce a novel, biologically inspired approach to extract visual features relevant for controlling and understanding reach-to-grasp actions. One of the most relevant of such features has been found to be the grip-size defined as the index finger-tip - thumb-tip distance. For this reason, in this paper we focus on this feature. The human visual system is naturally able to recognize many hand configurations - e.g. gestures or different types of grasps - without being affected substantially by the (observer) viewpoint. The proposed computational model preserves this nice ability. It is very likely that this ability may play a crucial role in action understanding within primates (and thus human beings). More specifically, a family of neurons in macaque's ventral premotor area F5 have been discovered which are highly active in correlation with a series of grasp-like movements. This findings triggered a fierce debate about imitation and learning, and inspired several computational models among which the most detailed is due to Oztop and Arbib (MNS model). As a variant of the MNS model, in a previous paper, we proposed the MEP model which relies on an expected perception mechanism. However, both models assume the existence of a mechanism to extract visual features in a viewpoint independent way but neither of them faces the problem of how this mechanism can be achieved in a biologically plausible way. The heterogeneity in the contemporary multimedia environments requires a format-agnostic adaptation framework for the consumption of digital video content. Preferably, scalable bitstreams are used in order to satisfy as many circumstances as possible. In this paper, the scalable extension on the H.264/AVC specification is used to obtain the parent bitstreams. The adaptation along the combined scalability axis of the bitstreams must occur in a format-independent manner. Therefore, an abstraction layer of the bitstream is needed. In this paper, XML descriptions are used representing the high-level structure of the bitstreams by relying on the MPEG-21 Bitstream Syntax Description Language standard. The adaptation process is executed in the XML domain by transforming the XML descriptions considering the usage environment. Such an adaptation engine is discussed in this paper in which all communication is based on XML descriptions without knowledge of underlying coding format. From the performance measurements, one can conclude that the transformations in the XML domain and the generation of the corresponding adapted bitstream can be realized in real time. In this paper, we present a novel image digital watermarking technique based on Kernel Independent Component Analysis (KICA). Use the nice characteristic of the KICA, which can results the blind separation of nonlinearly mixed signals, the imperceptibility and robustness requirements of watermarks are fulfilled and optimized. In the proposed scheme, the watermark image is first transformed by Arnold method, and then embedded into the lowest frequency subband in DWT domain. The recovery of owner's image is turning the watermarked image into DWT domains then use KICA to extract the watermark. Finally the watermark is transformed by Arnold method again, so we can get the original watermark image. Experimental results show that the proposed method gains better performance in robustness than that of ICA with respect to traditional image processing including cropping, filtering, add noise and JPEG image compression. Knowledge discovery methods used to find relationships among software engineering data and the extraction of rules have gained increasing importance in recent years. These methods have become necessary for improvements in the quality of the software product and the process. The focus of this paper is a first attempt towards combining strengths of rough set theory and neuro-fuzzy decision trees in classifying software defect data. We compare classification results for four methods: rough sets, neuro-fuzzy decision trees, partial decision trees, rough-neuro-fuzzy decision trees. The analysis of the results include a family-wise 10 fold paired t-test for accuracy and number of rules. In this paper, we propose a novel approach for facial expression analysis and recognition. The proposed approach relies on the distance vectors retrieved from 3D distribution of facial feature points to classify universal facial expressions. Neural network architecture is employed as a classifier to recognize the facial expressions from a distance vector obtained from 3D facial feature locations. Facial expressions such as anger, sadness, surprise, joy, disgust, fear and neutral are successfully recognized with an average recognition rate of 91.3%. With the development of computer science, there is an increasing demand on the object recognition in stereo images. As a binocular image pair contains larger and more complicated information than a monocular image, the stereo vision analysis has been a difficult task. Therefore how to extract the region of user's interest is a vital step to reduce the data redundancy and improve the robustness and reliability of the analysis. The original stereo sequences used in the paper are obtained from two parallel video cameras mounted on a vehicle driving in a residential area. This paper targets the problem of data segmentation of those stereo images. It proposes a set of algorithms to separate the foreground from the complicated changing background. In this paper the influence of structural information obtained from a problem relaxation on the performance of an ACO algorithm for the symmetric TSP is studied. More precisely, a very simple ACO algorithm is guided by including Minimal Spanning Tree information into the visibility. The www is a dynamic environment and it is difficult to capture the user preferences and interests without interfering with the normal activity of the user. Hence to improve user searching in the World Wide Web, we have proposed a personalized search system that supports user searches by learning about user preferences and by observing responses to prior search experiences aided by a new index called the User Conceptual Index (UCI). WordNet is a semantic lexicon for the English language and many countries have been developing their own WordNet. Almost, all of the WordNets are manually built and unfortunately these WordNets are not verified and are being used in many knowledge-based applications. In this paper we aimed at the clustering based verification of a manually built lexical taxonomy WordNet, namely the Korean WordNet, U-WIN. For this purpose two kinds of clustering methods are used: K-Means approach and ICA based approach. Recent solutions to object classification have focused on the decomposition of objects into representative parts. However, the vast majority of these methods are based on single visual cue measurements. Psychophysical evidence suggests that humans use multiple visual cues to accomplish recognition. In this paper, we address the problem of integrating multiple visual information for object recognition. Our contribution in this paper is twofold. First, we describe a new probabilistic integration model of multiple visual cues at different spatial locations across the image. Secondly, we use the cue integration framework to classify images of objects by combining two-dimensional and three-dimensional visual cues. In this paper the Vehicle Ad Hoc Network (VANET) is examined. As widely agreed VANETs must rely heavily on node-to-node communication while ease of access has to be assured at the same time. Beside the performance ensuring data authentication is another concern in VANETs. In our paper we focus on security aspects for the VANETs that aim to ensure data authentication and allow to ensure data secrecy. Ensuring data secrecy is not a standard feature of the VANETs since usually it is assumed that nodes in the network has to be able to receive all information send over the channel. In this paper, we propose a novel approach for facial expression analysis and recognition. The main contributions of the paper are as follows. First, we propose an efficient facial expression recognition scheme based on the detection of keyframes in videos where the recognition is performed using a temporal classifier. Second, we use the proposed method for extending the human-machine interaction functionality of the AIBO robot. More precisely, the robot is displaying an emotional state in response to the recognized user's facial expression. The aim of this paper is to compare the effectiveness of various computational intelligence approaches applied to the task of retrieving musical rhythm from musical symbolic files. The study presented in this paper describes how Artificial Neural Networks and Rough Sets can be used for searching the metric structure of musical files. The described approaches are based on examining physical attributes of sound that are most significant in determining the placement of a particular sound in the accented location of a musical piece. This paper is an extension of our earlier work in combining strengths of rough set theory and neuro-fuzzy decision trees in classifying software defect data. The extension includes the application of a rough-fuzzy classification trees to classifying defects. We compare classification results for five methods: rough sets, neuro-fuzzy decision trees, partial decision trees, rough-neuro-fuzzy decision trees and rough-fuzzy classification trees. The analysis of the results include a paired t-test for accuracy and number of rules. The results demonstrate that there is improvement in classification accuracy with the rough fuzzy classification trees with a minimal set of rules. Currently used data-mining algorithms treat data globally. Nevertheless, with such methods, potentially useful knowledge that relates to local phenomena may be undetected. In this paper, we introduce new patterns in a form of local frequent events and epochs, boundaries of which correspond to discovered changes in a data stream. A local frequent event is an event which occurs in some period of time frequently, but not necessarily in the whole data stream. Such an event will be called a frequent event in a data stream. An epoch is understood as a sufficiently large group of frequent events that occur in a similar part of the data stream. The epochs are defined in such a way that they do not overlap are separated by so called change periods. In the paper, we discuss some potential applications of the proposed knowledge. In T −fuzzy rough sets a fuzzy T −similarity relation is employed to describe the similar degree between two objects and to construct lower and upper approximations for arbitrary fuzzy sets. The existing researches on T −fuzzy rough sets mainly concentrate on constructive and axiomatic approaches of lower and upper approximation operators. In this paper we define attribute reduction based on T −fuzzy rough sets. The structure of proposed attribute reduction is investigated in detail by the approach of discernibility matrix. The subject-matter of the consideration touches the problem of vagueness. The notion of the rough set, originated by Zdzisław Pawlak, was constructed under the influence of vague information and methods of shaping systems of notions leading to conceptualization and representation of vague knowledge, so also systems of their scopes as some vague sets. This paper outlines some direction of searching for a solution to this problem. In the paper, in connection to the notion of the rough set, the notion of a vague set is introduced. Some operations on these sets and their properties are discussed. The considerations intend to take into account a classical approach to reasoning, based on vague premises, and suggest finding a logic of vague sentences as a non-classical logic in which all counterparts of tautologies of classical logic are laws. In this paper, we present the results of the Acoustic Event Detection (AED) and Classification (AEC) evaluations carried out in February 2006 by the three participant partners from the CHIL project. The primary evaluation task was AED of the testing portions of the isolated sound databases and seminar recordings produced in CHIL. Additionally, a secondary AEC evaluation task was designed using only the isolated sound databases. The set of meeting-room acoustic event classes and the metrics were agreed by the three partners and ELDA was in charge of the scoring task. This paper presents a novel shape recovery technique that combines photometric stereo with polarization information. First, a set of ambiguous surface normals are estimated from polarization data. This is achieved using Fresnel theory to interpret the polarization patterns of light reflected from dielectric surfaces. The process is repeated using three different known light source positions. Photometric stereo is then used to disambiguate the surface normals. The relative pixel brightnesses for the different light source positions reveal the correct surface orientations. Finally, the resulting unambiguous surface normal estimates are integrated to recover a depth map. The technique is tested on various objects of different materials. The controlled system is an uncertain nonlinear differential-algebraic subsystem (DASs) in a large-scale system. The problem of robust stabilization for such class of uncertain nonlinear DASs is considered in this paper. The robust stabilization controller is proposed based on backstepping approach using two-layer Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) whose weights are updated on-line. The closed-loop error systems are uniformly ultimately bounded (UUB) and the error of convergence can be made arbitrarily small. Finally, using the design scheme proposed in this paper, a governor controller is designed for one synchronous generator in a multi-machine power systems. This paper develops a new blind channel identification method in frequency domain. Oversampled signal has the property of spectral redundancy in frequency domain which is corresponding to the cyclostationarity property in time domain. This method exploits the cyclostationarity of oversampled signals to identify possibly non-minimum phase FIR channels. Unlike many existing methods, this method doesn't need EVD or SVD of correlation matrix. Several polynomials are constructed and zeros of channels are identified through seeking for common zeros of those polynomials. It is in the similar spirit of Tong's frequency approach, but this new algorithm is much simpler and computationally more efficient. A sufficient and necessary condition for channel identification is also provided in this paper. Most of the algorithms proposed in the literature deal with the problem of digital modulation classification and consider classic probabilistic or decision tree classifiers. In this paper, we compare and analyze the performance of 2 neural network classifiers and 3 support vector machine classifiers (i.e. 1-v-r type, 1-v-1 type and DAG type multi-class classifier). This paper also deals with the modulation classification problems of classifying both analog and digital modulation signals in military and civilian communications applications. A total of 7 statistical signal features are extracted and used to classify 9 modulation signals. It is known that the existing technology is able to classify reliably (accuracy ≥ 90%) only at SNR above 10dB when a large range of modulation types including both digital and analog is being considered. Numerical simulations were conducted to compare performance of classifiers. Results indicated an overall success rate of over 95% at the SNR of 10dB in all classifiers. Especially, it was shown that 3 support vector machine classifiers can achieve the probabilities of correct classification (Pcc) of 96.0%, 97.3% and 97.8% at the SNR of 5dB, respectively. Currently, there is little quantitative research on macroscopic real estate finance at home and abroad. Seen from the whole system of real estate finance, this paper chooses 14 main indexes to compose an evaluation index system. Based on the evaluation index system, an error -back-propagation BP network model is built to evaluate the growth of real estate finance. Data of real estate financial system from 1997-2005 are used as train and test samples of BP neural network. After training, the BP neural network is used to evaluate and forecast by simulation. Through the good accuracy of evaluation and forecasting, the model is proved to be very efficient. By comparing the growing difference of two adjacent years and analyzing the related macro financial policies in related years, the running effect of related real estate financial policies in related years is gained. So by using the evaluation model of this paper, decision makers can decide to use what kind of macro adjusting and controlling policies to gain anticipated aim of real estate finance in the future. Recently, the distribution and using of the digital multimedia contents are easy by developing the internet application program and related technology. However, the digital signal is easily duplicated and the duplicates have the same quality compare with original digital signal. To solve this problem, there is the multimedia fingerprint which is studied for the protection of copyright. Fingerprinting scheme is a technique which supports copyright protection to track redistributors of electronic information using cryptographic techniques. Only regular user can know the inserted fingerprint data in fingerprinting schemes differ from a symmetric/asymmetric scheme and the scheme guarantee an anonymous before re-contributed data. In this paper, we present a new scheme which is the detection of colluded multimedia fingerprint by neural network. This proposed scheme is consists of the anti-collusion code generation and the neural network for the error correction. Anti-collusion code based on BIBD(Balanced Incomplete Block Design) was made 100% collusion code detection rate about the average linear collusion attack, and the Hopfield neural network using (n,k) code designing for the error bits correction confirmed that can correct error within 2bits. To overcome these problems, it should be possible to reuse the analysis/design information than source code itself. In this paper, I present analogical matching techniques for the reuse of object models and design patterns. We have suggested the design patterns as reusable components and the representation techniques to store them. According to analysis of both neuro-electrophysiological experimental data and the biophysical properties of neurons, in early research paper we proposed a new biophysical model that reflects the property of energy coding in neuronal activity. On the based of the above research work, in this paper the proposed biophysical model can reproduce the membrane potentials and the depolarizing membrane current by means of neuro-electrophysiological experimental data. The existence and global asymptotic stability of a large class of Cohen-Grossberg neural networks is discussed in this paper. Previous papers always assume that the amplification function has positive lower and upper bounds, which excludes a large class of functions. The paper investigates the existence and global stability of periodic solution of non-autonomous neural networks with delay. Then the existence and uniqueness of periodic solutions of the neural networks are discussed in the paper. Moreover, criterion on stability of periodic solutions of the neural networks is obtained by using matrix function inequality, and algorithm for the criterion on the neural networks is provided. This paper mainly discusses a generic scheme for on-line adaptive critic design for nonlinear system based on neural dynamic programming (NDP), more exactly, an improved action-depended dual heuristic dynamic programming (ADDHP) method. The principal merit of the proposed method is to avoid the model neural network which predicts the state of next time step, and only use current and previous states in the method, as makes the algorithm more suitable for real-time or on-line application for process control. This paper presents a model predictive control (MPC) based on a neural network (NN) model for air/fuel ration (AFR) control of automotive engines. The novelty of the paper is that the severe nonlinearity of the engine dynamics are modelled by a NN to a high precision, and adaptation of the NN model can cope with system uncertainty and time varying effects. A single dimensional optimization algorithm is used in the paper to speed up the optimization so that it can be implemented to the engine fast dynamics. In this paper, a method for automatically indexing the contents to reduce the effort that used to be required for input paper information and constructing index is sought. Various contents formats for journals, which have different features from those for general documents, are described. The principal elements that we want to represent are titles, authors, and pages for each paper. Thus, the three principal elements are modeled according to the order of their arrangement, and then their features are generalized. The content analysis system is then implemented based on the suggested modeling method. The content analysis system, implemented for verifying the suggested method, gets its input in the form containing more than 300 dpi gray scale image and analyze structural features of the contents. It classifies titles, authors and pages using efficient projection method. The definition of each item is classified according to regions, and then is extracted automatically as index information. It also helps to recognize characters region by region. In this paper, a system based on Artificial Neural Network (ANN) for classifying automobile parts with different shapes is presented. The system gets the original information from an image sensor, classifies two sorts of automobile parts with different shapes after processing these images. The classifier designed in this paper adopts the ANN with an improved BP algorithm. The perimeter, acreage and the degree of the decentralization of the automobile parts in the intensity image are taken as the input feature vectors. For the No.1 part and No.2 part, the experimental result indicates that the recognition accuracy rate can reach up to 99% in this system and the productivity will be improved obviously comparing with the checking result in the off-line system manually. The speed and convenience of the Internet facilitated the development of electronic commerce (e-commerce). E-commerce research and technologies have always drawn the attention of researchers. Among them, the application of mobile agent on e-commerce has drawn much attention in recent years. Mobile agents can roam freely over different execution environments to execute tasks assigned to them. However, a mobile agent may be attacked when it requests services from other servers or when comes in contact with and exchange information with another agents while roaming on the internet. Hence, a mobile agent user may be concerned that his mobile agent could be corrupted or private information tapped and pirated by other agents. To ensure the security of mobile agents in public network environment, this paper proposes a security scheme that is suitable for mobile agents. The scheme includes access control and key management; it is also an improvement on the key management and access control for mobile agent scheme of Volker and Mehrdad. The proposed scheme corrects the drawback in Volker and Mehrdad's scheme which is the need of a large amount of storage for storing the secret keys. A novel Fuzzy PID controller is proposed in this paper, which is used for treating the control of pulp level and brightness in flotation de-inking column. The essential part of fuzzy PID controller is the fuzzy logic control, which is a multi-input-multi-output controller. A design method of the fuzzy PID controller is presented.
