Chapter XII of the book "American Negro Slavery: A Survey of the Supply, Employment and Control of Negro Labor As Determined by the Plantation Regime," by Ulrich Bonnell Phillips is presented. It explores the emergence of cotton plantation during the British colonial period in the U.S. It relates that British and French spinners attempted to expand the production of cotton and introduce into regions, but the result was a complete failure to lessen the predominance of the U.S. as a source.
