This bibliometric study scrutinizes the corpus of scientific output within the Web of Science pertaining to familial satisfaction among parents raising children with intellectual disabilities, focusing specifically on the milieu of educational inclusion. The analysis discerns a discernible ascension in scholarly interest in this domain, encapsulating 77 papers emanating from 75 journals, incorporating an aggregate of 3,497 cited references. Our investigation delineated 354 researchers across 39 nations, underscoring the transnational purview of this scholarly endeavor. The United States emerged as the pre-eminent contributor, with Canada and the United Kingdom following suit. Collaboration on an international scale was notably led by the US, with the UK and Australia trailing in tandem. Prominent institutions were identified for their scholarly output; the University of Kansas led with four papers, followed closely by Monash University, University of California Los Angeles, and University of California Riverside, each contributing three papers. Of particular note, the University of Kansas accrued 250 global citations (TGCS). A total of 75 journals were encompassed in this study. The Journal of Intellectual Disability Research emerged as the vanguard with four published papers, closely trailed by Child Care Health and Development and Exceptional Children. Notably, the latter boasted the highest impact factor (JCR = 4.09; Q1). Aim: To study long‐term sequelae in children with Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS). Method: This was a prospective observational study with children from two French tertiary centres. Data were from clinical and several standardized scales or questionnaires. Results: Fifty‐one patients were included with a median follow‐up of 6 years 4 months (range 3–20 years) after the acute phase. The sequelae rate was 67% (95% confidence interval [CI] 53–78) and did not vary with time. Most children had minor sequelae (Guillain–Barré Syndrome Disability Score [GBSDS] = 1); only one was unable to run (GBSDS = 2). The most frequent complaints were paraesthesia (43%), pain (35%), and fatigue (31%). The neurological examination was abnormal in 18% of children, autonomy was compromised in 14%, and symptoms of depression occurred in 34%. The factors associated with late‐onset sequelae were correlated with severity during the initial phase (i.e. initial GBSDS >4, odds ratio 6.6, 95% CI 1.8–33; p = 0.009). The predictive factors of more severe late‐onset conditions were initial severity (p = 0.002) and sex (female patients; p = 0.01). Interpretation: Two‐thirds of children with GBS had late‐onset sequelae following an episode, often minor, but sometimes with continuing effects on their everyday lives. Particularly affected were those who had severe GBS during the acute phase and who lost the ability to walk. The manner in which individuals worldwide shared art during the most challenging months of the COVID-19 pandemic stands as one of the most significant instances of creative social resistance in recent history. As a collective tool of resistance against emotional trauma, and as a means to foster a sense of community and well-being, the study of this phenomenon offers a compelling avenue for research into creativity and its social functions. This paper presents a descriptive case study of a successful 50-day collective experience within a neighborhood community in Madrid, Spain, during a period when the city, as a notably exceptional case study for research, bore one of the heaviest burdens of COVID-19 in the world. Data were gathered through in-depth personal interviews and direct observations. Applying a connected approach drawing on the fields of the Sociology of Art and Media Studies, three key findings emerge: (1) participants emphasized shared live artistic performances as the primary catalyst for fostering a sense of community, collective resilience, and overall well-being; (2) their sense of togetherness was further bolstered by digital and media support, as recordings of live performances were shared with loved ones living elsewhere, as well as with journalists and on social networks. This network of communication played a pivotal role in connecting individuals; (3) the combined efforts of both initiatives contributed to the development of a more positive individual and shared narrative surrounding the crisis. From the very beginning of their life, human beings are immersed in a social and interactive environment that contributes to shaping their social and cognitive development under typical and at-risk conditions. In order to understand human development in its bidirectional relationship with the social environment, we need to develop a 'complexity-sensitive' approach in neuroscience. Recent advances have started to do so with the application of hyperscanning techniques which involve recording adult and child neural activity simultaneously and highlighting the presence of similar patterns of brain activity in the dyad. Numerous studies focused on typically developing children have been published in recent years with the application of this technique to different fields of developmental research. However, hyperscanning techniques could also be extremely beneficial and effective in studying development in atypical and clinical populations. Such application, namely translational hyperscanning, should foster the transition toward a two-brain translational neuroscience. China has the largest number of hearing and speech disorders in the world. According to the second sample survey of the disabled conducted in 2006, there were 27.8 million disabled people in Hong Kong, about half of whom were disabled. The disabled account for 1.53%, and there are about 13,7000 hearing impaired children aged 0 to 6, an increase of about 2.3 million every year. About 2.3 million new babies are born each year. Research shows that more than 95% of exceptional children have been compensated for their residual hearing. How do 95% of hearing-loss children effectively use their remaining rumors? Technical assistance and scientific rehabilitation are effective tools to enable hearing impaired children to use their residual hearing. Therefore, this paper proposes a digital analysis method for speech rehabilitation data of preschool exceptional children to ensure that exceptional children can effectively obtain speech rehabilitation services and enhance their language ability. At present, children's psychological and behavioral health care is mainly based on the doctor's observation and diagnosis. On the whole, it is inefficient, and the effect of health care cannot meet the current needs of children's behavior. Therefore, this paper uses the method of functional imaging to study the key factors of children's behavioral health care. In this paper, the structure and function of children's brain are associated with children's psychological behavior. The brain structure of 64 children in our city is detected by functional image processing, and 64 children are divided into groups according to the detection results. According to the children's performance, the children were divided into physical disorder (11 cases), emotional disorder (14 cases), cognitive disorder (12 cases), and normal group (42 cases). Among them, 3 cases had three kinds of disorders, 6 cases had both emotional and cognitive disorders, 7 cases had physical and emotional disorders, and 5 cases had physical and cognitive disorders. In this paper, according to the research data of functional imaging on different levels of children's brain, we use computer to model and simulate through digital conversion technology, draw the neural network Atlas of children's psychological behavior, compare the children's representation and image characteristics according to functional imaging, and then, study the relationship between children's signs and images, to make a plan for improving children's psychological behavior health care. The study shows that in the above different groups, the linear correlation between the functional imaging results and the representation of 22 abnormal children is 98%, and the fuzzy deviation is only 3.52%, which indicates that functional imaging can be used as the basic judgment basis in improving children's psychological and behavioral health care and can predict and reasonably prevent children's potential psychological behavior according to the images. At least two per thousand newborns are affected by hearing loss, with up to 40% with an additional disability. Early identification by universal newborn hearing screening and early intervention services are available in many countries around the world, with limited data on their effectiveness and a lack of knowledge about specific intervention-related determinants of child and family outcomes. This concept paper aimed to better understand the mechanisms by which multi-dimensional family-centred early intervention influences child outcomes, through parent behaviour, targeted by intervention by a review of the literature, primarily in the field of childhood hearing loss, supplemented by research findings on physiological and atypical child development. We present a conceptual model of influences of multi-disciplinary family-centred early intervention on family coping/functioning and parent–child interaction, with effects on child psycho-social and cognitive outcomes. Social communication and language skills are postulated as mediators between parent–child interaction and non-verbal child outcomes. Multi-disciplinary networks of professionals trained in family-centred practice and the evaluation of existing services, with respect to best practice guidelines for family-centred early intervention, are recommended. Differences in social attention development begin to be apparent in the 6th to 12th month of development in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and theoretically reflect important elements of its neurodevelopmental endophenotype. This paper examines alternative conceptual views of these early social attention symptoms and hypotheses about the mechanisms involved in their development. One model emphasizes mechanism involved in the spontaneous allocation of attention to faces, or social orienting. Alternatively, another model emphasizes mechanisms involved in the coordination of attention with other people, or joint attention, and the socially bi-directional nature of its development. This model raises the possibility that atypical responses of children to the attention or the gaze of a social partner directed toward themselves may be as important in the development of social attention symptoms as differences in the development of social orienting. Another model holds that symptoms of social attention may be important to early development, but may not impact older individuals with ASD. The alterative model is that the social attention symptoms in infancy (social orienting and joint attention), and social cognitive symptoms in childhood and adulthood share common neurodevelopmental substrates. Therefore, differences in early social attention and later social cognition constitute a developmentally continuous axis of symptom presentation in ASD. However, symptoms in older individuals may be best measured with in vivo measures of efficiency of social attention and social cognition in social interactions rather than the accuracy of response on analog tests used in measures with younger children. Finally, a third model suggests that the social attention symptoms may not truly be a symptom of ASD. Rather, they may be best conceptualized as stemming from differences domain general attention and motivation mechanisms. The alternative argued for here that infant social attention symptoms meet all the criteria of a unique dimension of the phenotype of ASD and the bi-directional phenomena involved in social attention cannot be fully explained in terms of domain general aspects of attention development. Although attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children is rising worldwide, fewer studies have focused on screening than on the treatment of ADHD. Most previous similar ADHD classification studies classified only ADHD and normal classes. However, medical professionals believe that better distinguishing the ADHD–RISK class will assist them socially and medically. We created a projection-based game in which we can see stimuli and responses to better understand children's abnormal behavior. The developed screening game is divided into 11 stages. Children play five games. Each game is divided into waiting and game stages; thus, 10 stages are created, and the additional waiting stage includes an explanation stage where the robot waits while explaining the first game. Herein, we classified normal, ADHD–RISK, and ADHD using skeleton data obtained through games for ADHD screening of children and a bidirectional long short-term memory-based deep learning model. We verified the importance of each stage by passing the feature for each stage through the channel attention layer. Consequently, the final classification accuracy of the three classes was 98.15% using bi-directional LSTM with channel attention model. Additionally, the attention scores obtained through the channel attention layer indicated that the data in the latter part of the game are heavily involved in learning the ADHD–RISK case. This study explored preservice special education teachers' perceptions regarding special education teacher preparation courses, practicum, and evidence-based practices they recently completed. The participants of the study included five preservice special education teachers from two universities, Shaqra University and King Saud University, in Riyadh. A variety of qualitative interview designs, such as semi-structured interviews and in-depth interviews were employed to gather the data. This involved conducting a total of 15 interviews. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. Additionally, peer debriefing and member checks were used to increase the credibility of the study and help prevent personal bias. The study aimed to explore the perceptions of five preservice special education teachers specializing in autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disabilities regarding their experiences in special education teacher preparation in Riyadh universities. The findings revealed that the five preservice special education teachers identified the issues they faced during their 4 years in teachers preparation programs as: (a) limited content of educational strategies and Evidence-Based Practices (b) classroom communication was one-sided (c) redundant content in textbooks (d) course content is focused on theory instead of practical knowledge (e) lack of supervision by their faculty adviser and school members during the practicum. Background: Hypoxaemia occurs in approximately 30% of children during anaesthesia for flexible bronchoscopy. High-flow nasal oxygen (HFNO) can prolong safe apnoea time and be used in children with abnormal airways. During flexible bronchoscopy, there is limited evidence if HFNO confers advantages over current standard practice in avoiding hypoxaemia. The aim is to investigate feasibility of HFNO use during anaesthesia for flexible bronchoscopy to reduce frequency of rescue oxygenation and hypoxaemia. Methods: BUFFALO is a bi-centre, unmasked, randomised controlled, parallel group, protocol for a pilot trial comparing HFNO techniques to standard practice during anaesthesia. Children (n = 81) aged > 37 weeks to 16 years presenting for elective bronchoscopy who fulfil inclusion but not exclusion criteria will be randomised prior to the procedure to HFNO or standard care oxygenation post induction of anaesthesia. Maintenance of anaesthesia with HFNO requires total venous anaesthesia (TIVA) and with standard, either inhalational or TIVA at discretion of anaesthetist in charge of the patient. Outcomes will include the feasibility of recruitment and adherence to trial procedures, acceptability of the intervention of the protocol and completion rates of data collection methods. Discussion: Findings of this trial will determine feasibility to plan for a larger multicentre randomised clinical trial and support the feasibility of the proposed study procedures. Introduction: Dent disease type I is a rare X-linked recessive renal tubular disease resulting from pathogenic variants in the CLCN5 gene. Due to the rarity of Dent disease type I and the diversity of its phenotypes, its clinical diagnosis is complex and poses a challenge to clinicians. Methods: A foetus and a child from a 36-year-old pregnant woman with a birth history of abnormal children were enrolled in this study. Pregnant women undergo amniocentesis for prenatal diagnosis at the gestational age of 12+ 3 weeks. Chromosomal microarray (CMA) analysis and whole-exome sequencing (WES) were employed to investigate the chromosomal copy number and single gene variants. Literature retrieval and data analysis were performed for genotype and phenotype collection analysis. Results: No chromosomal abnormalities or CNVs were detected in the entire family through karyotype and familial CMA analyses. WES identified a nonsense pathogenic variant in CLCN5 of the X chromosome, c.1942 C > T (exon 11, NM_000084), which was inherited from his mother, who exhibited regular clinical features. Conclusion: This study suggests that children with low-molecular-weight proteinuria and hypercalciuria should undergo prompt genetic testing to exclude Dent disease. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Addressing the challenges in diagnosing and classifying self-care difficulties in exceptional children's healthcare systems is crucial. The conventional diagnostic process, reliant on professional healthcare personnel, is time-consuming and costly. This study introduces an intelligent approach employing expert systems built on artificial intelligence technologies, specifically random forest, decision tree, support vector machine, and bagging classifier. The focus is on binary and multi-label SCADI datasets. To enhance model performance, we implemented resampling and data shuffling methods to tackle data imbalance and generalization issues, respectively. Additionally, a hyper framework feature selection strategy was applied, using mutual-information statistics and random forest recursive feature elimination (RF-RFE) based on a forward elimination method. Prediction performance and feature significance experiments, employing Shapley value explanation (SHAP), demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed model. The framework achieved a remarkable overall accuracy of 99% for both datasets used with the fewest number of unique features reported in contemporary literature. The use of hyperparameter tuning for RF modeling further contributed to this significant improvement, suggesting its potential utility in diagnosing self-care issues within the medical industry. Objective: There has been increasing evidence for atypical white matter (WM) microstructure in autistic people, but findings have been divergent. The development of autistic people in early childhood is clouded by the concurrently rapid brain growth, which might lead to the inconsistent findings of atypical WM microstructure in autism. Here, we aimed to reveal the developmental nature of autistic children and delineate atypical WM microstructure throughout early childhood while taking developmental considerations into account. Method: In this study, diffusion tensor imaging was acquired from two independent cohorts, containing 91 autistic children and 100 typically developing children (TDC), aged 4–7 years. Developmental prediction modeling using support vector regression based on TDC participants was conducted to estimate the WM atypical development index of autistic children. Then, subgroups of autistic children were identified by using the k-means clustering method and were compared to each other on the basis of demographic information, WM atypical development index, and autistic trait by using two-sample t-test. Relationship of the WM atypical development index with age was estimated by using partial correlation. Furthermore, we performed threshold-free cluster enhancement-based two-sample t-test for the group comparison in WM microstructures of each subgroup of autistic children with the rematched subsets of TDC. Results: We clustered autistic children into two subgroups according to WM atypical development index. The two subgroups exhibited distinct developmental stages and age-dependent diversity. WM atypical development index was found negatively associated with age. Moreover, an inverse pattern of atypical WM microstructures and different clinical manifestations in the two stages, with subgroup 1 showing overgrowth with low level of autistic traits and subgroup 2 exhibiting delayed maturation with high level of autistic traits, were revealed. Conclusion: This study illustrated age-dependent heterogeneity in early childhood autistic children and delineated developmental stage-specific difference that ranged from an overgrowth pattern to a delayed pattern. Background: The corpus callosum (CC) is a key brain structure. In children with neurodevelopmental delay, we compared standard qualitative radiological assessments with an automatic quantitative tool. Methods: We prospectively enrolled 73 children (46 males, 63.0%) with neurodevelopmental delay at single university hospital between September 2020 and September 2022. All of them underwent 1.5-T brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) including a magnetization-prepared 2 rapid acquisition gradient echoes − MP2RAGE sequence. Two radiologists blindly reviewed the images to classify qualitatively the CC into normal, hypoplasic, hyperplasic, and/or dysgenetic classes. An automatic tool (QuantiFIRE) was used to provide brain volumetry and T1 relaxometry automatically as well as deviations of those parameters compared with a healthy age-matched cohort. The MRI reference standard for CC volumetry was based on the Garel et al. study. Cohen κ statistics was used for interrater agreement. The radiologists and QuantiFIRE's diagnostic accuracy were compared with the reference standard using the Delong test. Results: The CC was normal in 42 cases (57.5%), hypoplastic in 20 cases (27.4%), and hypertrophic in 11 cases (15.1%). T1 relaxometry values were abnormal in 26 children (35.6%); either abnormally high (18 cases, 24.6%) or low (8 cases, 11.0%). The interrater Cohen κ coefficient was 0.91. The diagnostic accuracy of the QuantiFIRE prototype was higher than that of the radiologists for hypoplastic and normal CC (p = 0.003 for both subgroups, Delong test). Conclusions: An automated volumetric and relaxometric assessment can assist the evaluation of brain structure such as the CC, particularly in the case of subtle abnormalities. Relevance statement: Automated brain MRI segmentation combined with statistical comparison to normal volume and T1 relaxometry values can be a useful diagnostic support tool for radiologists. There is an assumption in education that allowing students to choose their writing topics and positions is beneficial; however, there is little research to support this belief, particularly from the students' perspectives. In the present study, we conducted 20 semistructured interviews with students at a large university in the Southwest of the United States after they completed two in-class argumentative writing assignments in a course on exceptional children, one where they chose their writing position and one where they were assigned their writing position. As a group, these 20 students (13 female, 7 male) were above average writers in their first to third year of study, and the majority of them were education majors (70%), followed by arts and sciences (25%), and design and the arts (5%). The interview protocol focused upon their shifting perspectives on the underlying motivational construct of choice related to this and other writing assignments. Taking a grounded theory approach to thematic analysis, findings indicated that having choice in writing was important because it allowed students to write about topics that they find easier, more interesting, and possess greater knowledge. Choice also allowed students to demonstrate their autonomy, which they believed, influenced their motivation and writing quality/grades. While the university students in this study generally preferred choice, a majority of them identified benefits of not choosing, including opportunities to improve writing tenacity, enhance their writing skills, and achieve new perspectives. Adolescents in educational institutions are one of the groups of children whose voice is seldom heard, who have fewer opportunities to participate, and face more obstacles when they want to participate. Furthermore, growing up in out-of-home care often increases the children's vulnerability and endangers their participatory rights in terms of obtaining adequate information on the course of care, the opportunities to participate in decisions relevant to their life and care, the impact on the quality of care, etc. The aim of this paper is to describe adolescent participation from two perspectives: prescribed and formalized in the form of beneficiary councils in educational institutions and in the form of adolescent's experiences in institutions. A qualitative approach was used, and the data were obtained from focus groups with adolescents, as well as from descriptions of beneficiary councils through online questionnaires. The results shed light on the importance of adolescent's rights but also on the lack of their fulfilment in educational institutions, especially when it comes to participation. Adolescents' participation in educational institutions is perceived as limited, characterized by restriction and a lack of choice, which results in decreased motivation for participation. Using camera-based algorithms to detect abnormal patterns in children's handwriting has become a promising tool in education and occupational therapy. This study analyzes the performance of a camera- and tablet-based handwriting verification algorithm to detect abnormal patterns in handwriting samples processed from 71 students of different grades. The study results revealed that the algorithm saw abnormal patterns in 20% of the handwriting samples processed, which included practices such as delayed typing speed, excessive pen pressure, irregular slant, and lack of word spacing. In addition, it was observed that the detection accuracy of the algorithm was 95% when comparing the camera data with the abnormal patterns detected, which indicates a high reliability in the results obtained. The highlight of the study was the feedback provided to children and teachers on the camera data and any abnormal patterns detected. This can significantly impact students' awareness and improvement of writing skills by providing real-time feedback on their writing and allowing them to adjust to correct detected abnormal patterns. Landscape architects have a responsibility to society, the environment, the client, and other professional organizations. Professionals that undertake landscape-led planning projects need to adopt a comprehensive approach in all the associated aspects. This article summarizes a unique experience in landscape-led planning practice in the UK where most projects are either town planning or architect-led: (1) the housing scarcity problem in towns and villages, land within the Green Belt in the UK is in strict governance by planning policies. In this article, a case study of exceptional infilling villages in East Hertfordshire is used to drive a landscape-led, multi-disciplinary planning process and to analyze all expertise assignments involved; (2) materials were sought from a variety of sources including council official online guidance, public open access materials, project team communication, and consultation results which covered local residents engagement and anonymous comments during the publicity period of the planning decision. Desktop studies, site visits, and the expertise of the multi-disciplinary team were applied throughout the case; (3) with a year of planning teamwork, the proposed development of the study site met the local sustainable growth that planning permission for high-quality residential dwellings was granted by the Local Planning Authority; (4) since known landscape-led planning examples are limited in the UK, the case study formed a good example for scholars and researchers who are interested in planning in the Green Belt. There is lack of information on the histological characteristics of the intestinal mucosa in Bangladeshi children. Collection of intestinal biopsy samples and assessment of the histomorphological features is considered to be the traditional gold standard for diagnosis of environmental enteric dysfunction (EED). The purpose of the study was to evaluate the intestinal histological characteristics of stunted children aged between 12–18 months with possible EED. 110 children with chronic malnutrition (52 stunted with length-for-age Z score, LAZ<-2 and 58 at risk of stunting with LAZ <-1 to -2) from the Bangladesh Environmental Enteric Dysfunction (BEED) study protocol who underwent upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy were selected for this study. To explore the association of EED with childhood stunting, upper GI endoscopy was done and the biopsy specimens were studied for histopathology. Villous height and crypt depth were measured and the presence and intensity of inflammatory infiltrates in the lamina propria was investigated. Bivariate analysis was performed to examine the relationship between stunting and histologic morphology. More than 90% children irrespective of nutritional status were diagnosed to have chronic non-specific duodenitis on histopathology. Half of the children from both groups had villous atrophy as well as crypt hyperplasia and lymphocytic infiltration was present in more than 90% children, irrespective of groups. However, no statistically significant difference was observed when compared between the groups. The prevalence of chronic non-specific duodenitis in Bangladeshi children, irrespective of nutritional status, was high. A significant number of these children had abnormal findings in intestinal histomorphology. Growth faltering due to decreased nutrient absorption as a result of alteration of small intestinal histological structure manifested as blunting or atrophy of intestinal villi, hyperplasia or elongation of crypts and infiltration of inflammatory cells in the lamina propria, has been demonstrated as the basic characteristics of EED. The traditional gold standard for the diagnosis of EED is intestinal biopsy and assessment of the histomorphological alterations. There is lack of information on the histological characteristics of the intestinal mucosa in Bangladeshi children. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the intestinal histological characteristics of stunted children aged between 12–18 months with possible EED. 110 children with chronic malnutrition who underwent upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy were selected for this study and the biopsy specimens were studied for histopathology. Villous height and crypt depth were measured and the presence and intensity of inflammatory infiltrates in the lamina propria was investigated. More than 90% children irrespective of nutritional status were diagnosed to have chronic non-specific duodenitis. Half of the children from both groups had villous atrophy as well as crypt hyperplasia and lymphocytic infiltration was present in more than 90% children, irrespective of groups. Background: Cystic angiomatosis is a rare benign disease manifesting as multiple lytic and sclerotic bone lesions, described as the proliferation of vascular and lymphatic channels lined by a single layer of endothelial cells. However, the potential pathogenetic mechanism of the disease still remains unknown. Here, we reported a case of cystic angiomatosis with multifocal bone lesion evaluated by whole exome sequencing. Case description: In this presentation, we reported a case of an 11-year-old boy with pain in his chest. Computed tomography (CT) revealed the multiple lytic of the bone in the ribs, clavicle, vertebra thoracalis, skull, mandibula, shoulder blade, etc. The blood test showed ALP to be 393U/L and VEGF to be 287.26 pg/ml. The patient was performed with an open biopsy in the ribs and was diagnosed with cystic angiomatosis. Besides, the whole exome sequencing reported the single-nucleotide substitutions in the coding region of BRIP1, CHEK2, GRM4, and MUC16. Then, the upregulated genes involved CASC15, CENPF, ABCA13, ALK, BLM, and FGFR3. Conclusions: In this article, we report a rare case of cystic angiomatosis in a child with abnormal VEGF and ALP reported by peripheral blood examination. Background Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a lifelong condition that affects children and early intervention to provide an appropriate education for ASD children is necessary. Objective This study aimed to assess the awareness of ASD among preschool teachers in Qassim region, Saudi Arabia. Methods A cross-sectional study was carried out from December 2021 to February 2022 among preschool teachers in the Qassim region of Saudi Arabia. A random sampling technique was applied to select teachers through the Ministry of Education website. Results A total of 164 preschool teachers took part in the questionnaire. The most common age group was 30-40 years (58.5%). The total mean score of AKQ was 15.0 (SD 4.97). Nearly three-quarters (74.4%) of the teachers were classified as having a poor level of awareness while 25.6% had a good awareness level. Factors associated with a good awareness level include being a teacher (p=0.034) and having direct contact with autistic children (p=0.016). It is important to note that having more years of experience was significantly associated with knowledge regarding the correct pattern to diagnose children with autism (p=0.049). Conclusion The awareness of preschool teachers regarding ASD was deficient. Teachers who are in contact with autistic students demonstrated better knowledge than the rest of the preschool teachers. Preschool teachers are expected to maintain high standards in their work to meet the children's abnormal development and to identify them from an early stage, then refer them to diagnosis services. Some previous studies indicate that impaired social attention mainly results in social disorders in autistic children. In the social attention mode of autistic children, social orientation and joint attention are particularly important. The influence of different social intensity and ecological validity on them are worthy of further study. This study used realistic paintings with moderate ecological validity as experimental materials, to design isolated individual scene and social interaction scene, and to explore the impact of social interaction on the social orientation of autistic children. It found that in the scenes without social interaction, the attention patterns of autistic children and typical developing children were the same, while the attention patterns of autistic children were abnormal in the scenes with social interaction. From the eye tracking data, it was shown that the gaze processing process of autistic children was not as smooth as that of typical developing children. Compared with cartoons and other social scenes with low ecological validity, realistic painting could better restore the proportion of real scenes. Moreover, it could reduce the complexity of information which could not be done in real scenes. The findings of this study provide support for training and education of autistic children. Sensory processing issues are one of the most common issues observed in autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Technologies that could address the issue serve a more and more important role in interventions for ASD individuals nowadays. In this study, a sensory management recommendation system was developed and tested to help ASD children deal with atypical sensory responses in class. The system employed sensor fusion and machine learning techniques to identify distractions, anxious situations, and the potential causes of these in the surroundings. Another novelty of the system included a sensory management strategy making a module based on fuzzy logic, which generated alerts to inform teachers and caregivers about children's states and risky environmental factors. Sensory management strategies were recommended to help improve children's attention or calm children down. The evaluation results suggested that the use of the system had a positive impact on children's performance and its design was user-friendly. The sensory management recommendation system could work as an intelligent companion for ASD children that helps with their in-class performance by recommending management strategies in relation to the real-time information about the children's environment. Introduction: Overweight or obese children develop abnormal endothelial cell dysfunction and arterial intima–media thickening with increased vasomotor tone and inflammation. Curcumin, resveratrol, zinc, magnesium, selenium, and vitamin D have shown beneficial effects on endothelial function. We test, among overweight and obese pediatric subjects, the effects on the endothelium of a combination of curcumin, resveratrol, zinc, magnesium, selenium, and vitamin D. Methods: Forty-eight subjects (6–17 years) were randomized into two groups (placebo vs treatment) attended three visits at 0, 3, and 6 months (±15 days). Endothelial function was assessed by means of a post-occlusive release hyperemic (PORH) test for estimation of delta flow (DF) and hyperemic AUC index, and a heat provocation test (HPT) to measure DF HPT (DFHPT). Results: Significant DF difference was noted at 6 months in both groups (p < 0.001). Overall time trend was significantly different between baseline, 3 months, and 6 months both in placebo (p < 0.05) and treatment (p < 0.001) groups and their comparison (p < 0.001). No differences were noted in hyperemic AUC index (3 and 6 months), whilst there were significant differences in time trends of rreatment (p < 0.001) and placebo (p < 0.05) groups and their comparison (p < 0.001). DFHPT difference between groups was significant at 3 and 6 months (p < 0.05). The overall time trend was significant exclusively in Treatment group between 3 and 6 months (p < 0.05). Correlation with anthropometrics was found for DF and body mass index (r = 0.677 6 months, p < 0.05), as well as for hyperemic AUC index and males (r = 0.348, p < 0.05), while DFHPT showed no correlation. Conclusion: Curcumin, resveratrol, zinc, magnesium, selenium, and vitamin D appear to be promising in enhancing endothelial function by improvement of both DF in the PORH test and DF in the HPT, lowering the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases in overweight and obese pediatric subjects. The goal of the study was to retrospectively evaluate a cohort of children and adults with mitochondrial diseases (MDs) in a single-center experience. Neurological clinical examination, brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and spectroscopy, muscle biopsy, metabolic and molecular-genetic analysis were evaluated in 26 children and 36 adult patients with MD in Slovenia from 2004 to 2018. Nijmegen MD criteria (MDC) were applied to all patients and the need for a muscle biopsy was estimated. Exome-sequencing was used in half of the patients. Twenty children (77.0%) and 12 adults (35.0%) scored a total of ≥8 on MDC, a result that is compatible with the diagnosis of definite MD. Yield of exome-sequencing was 7/22 (31.0%), but the method was not applied systematically in all patients from the beginning of diagnostics. Brain MRI morphological changes, which can be an imaging clue for the diagnosis of MD, were found in 17/24 children (71.0%). In 7/26 (29.0%) children, and in 20/30 (67.0%) adults, abnormal mitochondria were found on electron microscopy (EM) and ragged-red fibers were found in 16/30 (53.0%) adults. Respiratory chain enzymes (RCEs) and/or pyruvate dehydrogenase complex (PDHc) activities were abnormal in all the children and six adult cases. First, our data revealed that MDC was useful in the clinical diagnosis of MD, and second, until the use of NGS methods, extensive, laborious and invasive diagnostic procedures were performed to reach a final diagnosis. Finally, we emailed underrepresented STEM faculty at local universities to support us in identifying STEM professionals of color to serve as virtual mentors for underrepresented middle school students. Almost all studies on neonatal imitation to date seem to have focused on typically developing children, and we thus lack information on the early imitative abilities of children who follow atypical developmental trajectories. From both practical and theoretical perspectives, these abilities might be relevant to study in children who develop a neuropsychiatric diagnosis later on or in infants who later show impaired ability to imitate. Theoretical in the sense that it will provide insight into the earliest signs of intersubjectivity—i.e., primary intersubjectivity—and how this knowledge might influence our understanding of children following atypical trajectories of development. Practical in the sense that it might lead to earlier detection of certain disabilities. In the present work, we screen the literature for empirical studies on neonatal imitation in children with an Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or Down syndrome (DS) as well as present an observation of neonatal imitation in an infant that later was diagnosed with autism and a re-interpretation of previously published data on the phenomenon in a small group of infants with DS. Our findings suggest that the empirical observations to date are too few to draw any definite conclusions but that the existing data suggests that neonatal imitation can be observed both in children with ASD and in children with DS. Thus, neonatal imitation might not represent a useful predictor of a developmental deficit. Based on current theoretical perspectives advocating that neonatal imitation is a marker of primary intersubjectivity, we propose tentatively that an ability to engage in purposeful exchanges with another human being exists in these populations from birth.
