Introduction. Infrared radiation is invisible electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength of 000 nm 770-15. There are many scientific reports, which confirm the positive effect of the therapy waves with a range of red and infrared light both on animals and patients in vivo. A imagem infravermelha (IR) é um método diagnóstico inócuo e sem radiação iônica, capaz de quantificar objetivamente por imagem as reações inflamatórias locais do sistema músculo-esquelético. Para o diagnóstico diferencial, a imagem IR deve ser analisada em conjunto com o exame clínico e outros exames complementares. A imagem IR quantitativa é útil particularmente quando aplicada na monitoração do curso da atividade inflamatória e da terapia antiinflamatória local e sistêmica.Infrared thermography is unique objective imaging procedure for the quantitative assessment of local inflammatory reactions in parts of the locomotor system. For differential diagnosis the thermographic results should be evaluated in conjuction with clinical examination and other technical procedures. As a means of monitoring the course of the local inflammatory activity, however, quantitative infrared thermography is a useful tool in itself, particularly during the application of local and systemic anti-inflammatory therapy.

Objective: The objective of the study is to analyze, through the use of infrared thermography, the variability of foot temperature in diabetic and non-diabetic patients by segmenting the sole of the foot in four study areas., Method: A cross-sectional study was proposed on a sample of 479 subjects divided into two groups, a group of people with diabetes and a group of people without diabetes. The diabetes group comprised a total of 277 people, with an average age of 63.41 years, [138 men (49.8%) and 139 women (50.2%)], and the group without diabetes comprised 202 individuals, with an average age of 61.92 years, [99 men (49%) and 103 women (51%)]. The images were taken using the FLIR E60bx® camera. IBM SPSS Statistics 22 software was used for the statistical data analysis., Results: The results show temperature variability in the different areas of study of the sole of the foot bilaterally and there were also differences according to whether the patient belonged to the diabetic or the non-diabetic group., Conclusions: The use of infrared thermography in the evaluation of the foot at risk could demonstrate the variability of temperature by study area, which could be useful in the area of healthcare for the diagnosis and prevention of injuries to compromised areas of the foot., (Copyright © 2018 Elsevier España, S.L.U. Objective: To report the finding of infrared meibography in a Mexican patient with EEC syndrome (Ectrodactyly-ectodermal dysplasia-cleft syndrome) confirmed by molecular analysis of the p63 gene., Clinical Case: A 31 year-old male patient was seen due to a history of progressive visual loss in both eyes associated with long-term photophobia. The patient was born with cleft lip and palate, ectrodactyly of right hand, and afterwards, displayed nail dysplasia, anodontia and alopecia, with which ectodermal dysplasia was diagnosed. The ophthalmological findings were limited to the adnexa and the ocular surface. In vivo infrared meibography showed total absence of Meibomian glands in the lower eyelids and severe deficiency in the upper eyelids. In addition, it was shown that the patient was a heterozygous carrier of a missense mutation R304W (C → T) in exon 8 of the p63 gene., Discussion: The R304W mutation in the p63 gene region is definitely related to characteristics such as the absence of Meibomian glands., (Copyright © 2018 Sociedad Española de Oftalmología. OBJETIVO: Determinar se a termografia infravermelha é capaz de detectar com precisão a perda de perfusão tecidual em áreas de parênquima esplênico. MÉTODOS: Cinco porcos Landrace pesando entre 12 a 15 kg, após medicação pré-anestésica intramuscular e anestesia por infusão endovenosa, foram submetidos a quatro etapas de ligaduras sequenciais, dos vasos arteriais para o pólo inferior do baço: 1-vasos do ligamento esplênico; 2-ramo da artéria esplênica para o pólo inferior; 3-ramo arterial para o pólo inferior na face visceral do órgão; 4-parênquima esplênico dividindo o órgão. As imagens foram captadas por câmera Therma CAM SC500 instalada a 50 centímetros da superfície do órgão. As temperaturas foram medidas na região proximal (vascularizada) e na região distal (isquêmica), em três áreas circulares distintas de cada região através do software SAT Report, antes e após cada etapa de ligaduras, constituindo cinco grupos de medidas: tempo 0 = antes da etapa 1; tempo 1 = após etapa 1; tempo 2 = após etapa 2; tempo 3 = após etapa 3; tempo 4 = após etapa 4. RESULTADOS: Houve manutenção da temperatura da região proximal (vascularização preservada) durante todos os tempos de desvascularização. A temperatura da região distal (desvascularizada) iniciou queda a partir da primeira ligadura e tornou-se estatisticamente menor que a da região proximal a partir da ligadura 3 (Etapa 3). Houve diferença estatisticamente significativa entre as temperaturas proximais e distais do órgão na medida em que foram sendo realizadas as ligaduras vasculares. CONCLUSÃO: A termografia infravermelha foi capaz de distinguir com precisão áreas de parênquima esplênico com vascularização preservada de áreas isquêmicas e pode contribuir para a avaliação da viabilidade de órgãos sólidos.

Introduction: Pupil assessment is a fundamental part of the neurological examination. Size and reactivity to light of each pupil should be recorded periodically since changes in these parameters may represent the only detectable sign of neurological deterioration in some patients. However, there is great intraobserver and interobserver variability in pupil examination due to the influence of many factors, such as the difference in ambient lighting, the visual acuity and experience of the examiner, the intensity of the luminous stimulus, and the method used to direct this stimulus. In recent years, digital cameras have incorporated infrared devices allowing the development of user-friendly portable devices that permit repeated, non-invasive examinations of pupil size and its reactivity to light with an objective, accessible and inexpensive method., Development: The purpose of this review is to describe the fundamentals of infrared pupillometry and discuss potential applications in the monitoring of neurocritical patients. We also present some recommendations in the routine assessment of pupils in neurocritical patients., Conclusions: The possibility of evaluating the changes in pupil reactivity in an early, objective and almost continuous way provides a new non-invasive monitoring method. This method could improve the predictive factor of neurological deterioration and the bedside monitoring of the neurological state of the patient, avoiding unnecessary examinations and enabling early therapeutic intervention., (Copyright © 2010 Sociedad Española de Neurología. Background and Objectives: The study of the vasomotor effect of local anesthetics (LA) is of paramount importance for the analysis of the occurrence of cardiotoxic and neurotoxic effects, and drug interactions. In order to find a safer drug than racemic bupivacaine, this study aimed to analyze digital infrared imaging of acute vasomotor effect of bupivacaine and levobupivacaine in rats intraperitoneally., Method: We used 30 male Wistar rats distributed into three groups (n=10) and subjected to an intraperitoneal injection of LA. In Group C (control) 1 mL 0.9% saline was injected intraperitoneally. In Group B (bupivacaine), intraperitoneal injection of 0.5% of racemic bupivacaine (S50-R50), dose of 20 mg.kg⁻¹ of body weight. In Group L (levobupivacaine), intraperitoneal injection of levobupivacaine 0.5% enantiomeric excess (S75-R25) in dose of 20 mg.kg⁻¹ of body weight. The procedure was thermographicly continuously filmed from the time of pre-injection until 30 minutes after injection. The results of the recordings were analyzed in graphical form, verifying the maximum temperature of each rat and the average temperature of the system that housed the animal., Results: The results of graphic analysis showed no difference between Group L and Group C, and the average temperature remained stable throughout the experiment in both groups. In Group B, there was a phenomenon of temperature increase after intraperitoneal injection of bupivacaine., Conclusions: The results demonstrated that the vasomotor effect of the acute toxicity of levobupivacaine was similar to Group C with saline, through macroscopic studies by infrared digital filmmaking, and that there were vasomotor changes (vasoconstriction), with bupivacaine intoxication in relation to both Group C and Group L., (Copyright © 2011 Elsevier Editora Ltda.
