Microscopic colitis (MC) is a common cause of chronic, non-bloody diarrhoea in the elderly population. In Denmark the incidence has been rising for the last decades. Sufficient biopsy material from colon mucosa is essential for the diagnosis. Treatment is important to improve the patient's quality of life, which is significantly impaired in active MC. This paper reviews newly published data regarding epidemiology, diagnostic criteria and a new European treatment guideline and also includes updates on ongoing and future studies in MC.

Perivascular epithelioid cell tumours (PEComas) are rare tumours with unknown malignant potential. We report a case of a 48-year-old woman, who had had many tumours, initially diagnosed as leiomyomas, removed from her uterus and vagina over 16 years. A recurrent tumour and revision of prior specimens revealed PEComa. As free surgical margins could not be obtained, the woman is regularly controlled by magnetic resonance imaging. So far recurrence has not been detected. This case shows that knowledge of PEComas is important to ensure relevant follow-up as these are low malignant tumours that tend to reoccur.

The article describes some early aspects of a ph.d.-project investigating the rules andpractice regarding insane offenders in the nordic legal systems. The project consistsof two major aspects: A legal comparative analysis of the rules regarding insaneoffenders in Denmark, Norway and Sweden, and a criminal ethics analysis of thebackground behind the rules and the application of the rules in practice.The article shortly introduces the concept of insanity, and describes some earlythoughts regarding one of the central aspects of the project: The alignment betweenthe justifications behind the rules, and the application of the rules in practice. Thearticle gives two examples of cases where the justification for the rules is important tothe interpretation of the statute: The case where the defendant was insane at the timeof the crime, but is not insane at the time of the judgment, and the case where there isa lack of proportionality between the severity of the crime and the necessarytreatment. Growth guiding is currently widely practiced for deformity correction in the growing child. Different methods have been developed. In 2007 Stevens described a tension band device (8-plates) as a simple growth control method. Since then it has been widely used, e.g. in hemiepiphysiodesis to correct varus or valgus deformities or extension defect in the knee. Temporary epiphysiodesis can also be used to correct leg length discrepancy more accurately. Complications after treatment with 8-plates are well-described. Stress fracture after the usage of this device has to our knowledge not yet been described. We present a case with a fracture in the distal femur through 8-plates screw holes.

Udgangspunktet for "Læreprocesser Gennem strukturerede refleksion" er spørgsmålet om, hvordan strukturering af refleksion kan bidrage til at sikre (det nærmeste umulige) at eleverne lærer, det tilsigtede i (boldspil-)undervisningen. Forfatterne Christian Engell og Torben Hansen viser, hvordan begreberne refleksion og iagttagelse har afgørende betydning for læring i boldspil. Desuden beskriver de, hvordan refleksionsprocessen kan struktureres i praktiske undervisningssituationer, med henblik på at udvikle både viden og færdigheder (kvalifikationer, kompetencer og kreativitet). Med eksempler fra deres egen pædagogiske praksis, illustrerer forfatterne, hvordan struktureret refleksion kan skærpe fokus og øge læring blandt de studerende.

Salmonella enteritidis is a rare cause of suppurative arthritis of the hip joint in children. The diagnosis is clinical and paraclinical. Treatment is surgical with decompression and antibiotics according to culture. A case of an 8-year-old boy is presented.

Udgivelsesdato: 2007-Jan-22 INTRODUCTION: Stress may affect health negatively. Therefore, it is important to identify risks factors for high levels of stress. Previous studies indicate that parents report higher levels of stress than adults without children. Whether this it due to having children or due to other circumstances is unknown. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether parents have higher levels of stress than adults without children after controlling for possible confounders. A possible interaction between being a parent and working time on perceived stress will be examined. METHODS: Cross-sectional data from Danish Health and Morbidity Survey 2000 were used. 3,083 men and 2,813 women aged 25-49 years answered one question on perceived stress. All analyses were stratified on sex and marital status and adjusted for age, socio-economic level, income and work hours/week. RESULTS: No differences in perceived stress between men and women with and without children were found. Women, who were lone parents and worked more than 37 hours a week, had a markedly increased level of stress (OR: 3.2, 95%CI: (1.3-7.8)) compared to single women without children working 37 hours a week. CONCLUSION: Children in the household did not appear to be the cause of a high level of perceived stress. Single mothers with long working hours were an exception to this conclusion.
