- Abstract
The article examines the influence of the social status of university graduates in the Czech Republic on their situation in post-mass higher education. More specifically, it tests the validity of hypotheses concerning the impact of family background, income level, reselection of the field of study, and the extent of saturation of prestigious fields (medicine, law) with individuals from elite backgrounds by applying the socio-economic status (SES) concept and the theory of maximally maintained inequality. The hypotheses are tested on the Graduate 2018 survey dataset. The research results confirm the persistent importance of parents' education on graduates' SES. The income security of graduates affects their life satisfaction to a certain degree but has no effect on the reselection of their field of study. The results also show the above-average saturation of medical and legal disciplines by graduates with elite status. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Objective: The aim of the report is to determine the risk factors of mothers whose infant died of suffocation before reaching the 1st year of age. Methods: The research method of choice was a retrospective content analysis of autopsy reports from medical and forensic autopsies of infants under 1 year of age. Each autopsy report was conceived as a case study. The research sample included the autopsy reports of children where the immediate cause and mechanism of death was suffocation – both of internal and external reasons (n=11). The social risk factors of mothers were identified based on the mechanism and circumstances of their infant's death. The only case where the expert opinion allowed for SIDS became the verifying unit of the analysis of other cases in the case study series. Results: The qualitative analysis of the whole series showed that the cases may be sorted in two basic categories. The first one included the cases where the infant's death had a direct cause (n=6); in these cases, the clearly violent death was directly connected – with respect to the cause and time – with the hostile actions of another person. The other category included cases of neglect and other types of conduct (n=5). These cases were further divided into actions under the influence of drugs and insufficient care. Conclusion: The results confirmed the importance of social risks of mothers (SES, accommodation, social exclusion, family relations, health literacy of the mothers). The analysis of the autopsy reports revealed the social feature of the cases of infant death by suffocation, which is the cumulative effect of the difficult life situation of the mothers combined with their low level of health literacy. The main aim of the study is to examine relationship among socio-economic (SES), socio-metric (SMS) status, personal belief in a just world and subjective well-being. Also another aim of the study is to verify mediation effect of personal belief in a just world on the relationship between socio-economic (SES), socio-metric status (SMS) and subjective well-being (positive and negative emotions). Research sample consisted of 191 respondents from Slovakia (73 men and 118 women, from 16 to 48 years old, M = 24.47, SD = 5.57). The test battery consisted of a number of standardized research tools: Emotional Habitual Subjective Well-being Scale (Džuka & Dalbert, 2002), Personal Belief in a Just World Scale (Dalbert, 1999), The MacArthur Scale of Subjective Social Status (Adler & Stewart, 2007; Giatti et al., 2012). The data was processed using the statistical program SPSS 21. 0. For testing mediation was used Hayes’s (2016) MACRO process in SPSS. Correlation analysis and mediation were used to verify the main aim of the study. SES and SMS as predictor variables (X), personal belief in a just world as mediator (M), and positive and negative emotions as an outcome variable (Y) were measured by separate calculations. The results of the study confirmed significant positive correlation between SES, SEM and positive emotions and negative correlation between SEM and negative emotions. However, relationship between SES and negative emotions was not confirmed. Also the results confirmed significant positive correlation between personal belief in a just world and SES, SEM and subjective well-being. The results also confirmed indirect effect of SES and SMS on negative emotions via personal belief in a just world. Bootstrapped 95% confidence interval does not contain zero, so the indirect effect is significant at the p

SUMMARY Influence of income from pensions on life expectancy was described in several articles in medical journals and research reports. Present study tried to verify this association in the Czech population of 65 years of age. However, only a very low correlation was found in men and medium correlation in women between regional averages of pension income and life expectancy with limited statistical significance. On the contrary, the percentage of higher educated significantly correlated with life expectancy in both men and women and determined life expectancy by about 40%. The author discusses the low effect of pensions income on life expectancy of elderly people in this study and points out the possible influence of the methodology used. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Physical growth and development in children are markers of genetic predisposition, nutritional status, physical activity, presence of chronic diseases, environmental factors and also markers of socio-economic and demographic characteristics of the environment. The focus of our research paper was confirmation of the relationship of anthropometric parameters (BMI and percentage of body fat) and socio-economic, anamnestic and family history factors and other indicators of health status amongst schoolchildren. The goal was to determine the influence of individual, social and family medical history on body fat percentage and BMI. A cross-sectional study was conducted on a sample of school children (370 boys and 370 girls) aged 6.00 to 14.99 years in eastern Slovakia (Trebišov, Michalovce, Humenné and Vranov). Data collection took place in 2010-2012. BMI calculation was based as a pattern of the ratio of two basic anthropometric parameters - body weight and height. Body fat percentage was measured as the sum of four skin folds. The study outputs confirmed that children's BMI is highly influenced by maternal BMI and obesity, family history of obesity (p < 0.001). The father´s BMI (p < 0.01) had a lower impact. Statistically higher BMI (p < 0.05) were detected amongst first-born children, children with a history of hypertension and children in families with a higher income per capita. Similar results were confirmed for the percentage of body fat and the factors influencing it. Analysis confirmed the impact of the same factors on the percentage of children's body fat, but additionally significant were also sports and physical activities, single parent status, university education of the mother and normal neonatal length [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The article examines the effects of selected factors of health inequalities in Slovakia and tests the theoretical and methodological assumptions of the cultural and behavioural health model of Slovak society based on the results of the TSSP Slovakia 2012'. Using decision tree analysis with a CRT algorithm the authors confirm the effect of socio-economic status as the dominant factor of health inequality. They also confirmed the different impacts of various types of protective and risk behaviour (regular medical examinations, eating fruit and vegetables, physical activity, smoking, drinking, and alcohol) and of other, indirect but important determinants of health. This dissertation describes the decision-making process of parents in the field of postponing the compulsory school attendance or starting it on schedule. The qualitative research is based on an aggregate of 41 semi-structured interviews with parents and two focus groups, completed by subsequent observations and interviews with parents and teachers. The research goal consisted in illuminating the background of the high number of postponements in the Czech Republic, where every year about 20 % of children start in the first class a year later. The dissertation also provides insight on this topic in a comparative perspective and analyzes the initiation of compulsory education in selected European countries. The research results presented in the form of an established theory document that parents' decisions are based primarily on the needs of the family and especially of the need to be a good parent. The decision making is influenced also by the parents' attitude to the delay which has also impact on the weight being attached to other factors of the decision-making process, such as school maturity and individual areas of school readiness as well as the month of birth. During the decision-making process the experience of parents with enrolment in the first grade plays an important role as well. The...

The main topic of this thesis are the determinants of health. Since this is a very broad field, I focused content work on social determinants which consist of ten main factors affecting health. Bachelor thesis contains a theoretical part where I drew on the knowledge of Czech and foreign literature, I described the basic determinants biomedical model of health, ecological - social model of health, in which I rank the concept of ten social determinants of health, according to the findings Wilkinson and Marmot, who in his study worked out ten key social determinants: social gradient, childhood, nutrition, social support, stress, addiction, unemployment, transport and social exclusion. Practical part contains quantitative research aimed to compare the target group high school students aged 16 -19 years old, living in the capital Prague and the state high school students small town of Zdar nad Sazavou. The main goal is to find out how they affect social determinants of students in direct connection with the lifestyle in these cities. The questionnaire survey will focus on the students' way of life, leisure time, economic factors, family factors, social environment, social gradient families, motivating students to study substance abuse. In the discussion, evaluate the results obtained in the questionnaire survey. At the end of the thesis I point out the objectives and acquired knowledge of this work. In conclusion, I think the irreplaceable role of the family, the importance of family upbringing and the influence of social determinants of health and psychosocial development of adolescent students. To obtain the data I chose the method of quantitative research, technology research is a questionnaire with closed questions. Statistical evaluation questionnaire, as a percentage, is in progress, results in tables and graphically illustrated. Evaluated survey is compared with the given assumptions and objective work. The conclusion will discuss the possibility of using the acquired knowledge in daily routine, since the determinants of health has an impact on our health throughout life.

Our analysis reveals that older generations in the Czech Republic still exhibit\nsome differences from more developed countries in Western and Northern\nEurope. Socio-economic conditions, educational attainment, occupational\nstructure, or health status are still lower due to reasons related to historical\ndevelopment in the 20th century. On the other hand, improvements and\nconvergence of aforementioned characteristics to more economically\ndeveloped countries of the EU during a relatively short period of time has been\nnotable.

Socio-spatial differentiation is natural phenomenon observable in almost all scales. However, the causes and consequences of this phenomenon can be different in particular areas or the era. Income inequality has increased in the Czech Republic since 1989, as well as unemployment and various social problems, which are reflected in the social environment of villages and towns as well as in municipal decision-making. The aim of the diploma thesis is to identify social (educational) diferentiation at several spatial hierarchy levels. The main part of the thesis emphasizes understanding the evolution of socio-spatial differentiation at local level in micro-region České Budějovice from 1989 to the present using the education level of the population and identifies areas with positive and negative development. The education is considered as the indicator of socio- economic status, human capital or relative income. The intention of the thesis is to identify the areas with higher concentration of people with higher and lower socio-economic status and also find the main factors and mechanisms that create these spatial patterns. This thesis works primarily with the cencus data. The diploma thesis also provides basic development maps of the population patterns with lower and higher social status from the...

The injuries happening to children in the household or during leisure time activities constitute the most frequent injury types. The injuries caused by shaking constitute a specific group. The information of lay public in the Czech Republic with regard of the Shaken Baby Syndrome is almost at zero level. The basic precondition to reduce the injury rate consists in identification of risk factors causing the origination of the injury or making the individual vulnerable. The factors include environment, health, behaviour, socio-demographic and social factors. The goal of the thesis consists in mapping children injuries in the household and during leisure time activities. A partial goal consists in mapping the use of protective devices for injury prevention. Another goal of the thesis consists in mapping the information of the parents on the Shaken Baby Syndrome, as well as in mapping the techniques of comforting crying babies and the related parents' feelings. The research method consists in quantitative prospective research; two structured questionnaires are used for data collection. The data collection took place in 2009-14. The first questionnaire is focused on acquisition of information on child injuries in the household and during leisure time activities. The goal of the study consists in analyzing children's injuries in ages from 0 to 18 years. The second questionnaire is focused on the Shaken Baby Syndrome and consists of several partial areas: child crying, techniques of managing and comforting child crying, parents' feelings and level of information on Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS). Based on the research results, the approach to primary prevention of children's injuries can be improved by increased observation of the child, by increased efficiency of preventive procedures, by increased dispensarization, control or increased efficiency of implemented primary injury prevention.

My diploma work deals with the relationship between the oral health condition of patients and their socio-economic status. The theoretical section of my work is focussed on stomatology and its division, oral cavity disorders and their treatment, prevention and prophylaxis, the distribution of teeth defects and their treatment. The practical section is based on a hypothesis. The objective of my paper consists in the evaluation of the impact of the socio-economic status of a person on his or her KPE index value. The hypothesis has been evaluated on the basis of a secondary analysis of data acquired from the case histories of patients attending a dental practice as well as on a questionnaire survey. The oral health evaluation has been supported by KPE index and the supplementary CPITN and API indexes. Goldthorp´s class diagram has been used for the purposes of the respondents´ socio-economic status evaluation. The status creating factors applied in my research have been the standard and level of education and professional training of a respondent, family income, his or her share in the power and decision sphere etc. It has been found that there is a correlation between a higher level of achieved education and professional training, a higher social status, a higher income on the one side and more favourable KPE index values as well as a better overall dental health on the other side. Primarily, the research presents the basis of my diploma work. It may also be published in a journal for stomatologists, nurses and dental hygienists. It is also aimed at internal use in the dental practice.
