The diploma thesis deals with challenging behaviour in pupils with intellectual disability and autism. The aim of the thesis is to map the current reality of education of these pupils through the statements of pedagogical staff from pre-schools and elementary schools established in accordance with section 16, paragraph 9 of the Education Act. The occurrence, frequency, intensity and specific manifestations of challenging behaviour are examined, as well as the underlying causes influencing challenging behaviour, prevention and preventative approaches, solutions to the occurrence and escalation. The theoretical part provides a comprehensive overview of the problem and challenging behaviour in our country and in the Anglo-Saxon world and it deals with approaches to challenging behaviour. It also focuses on autism, neurodiversity and intellectual disability. The research part defines the aim of the thesis, research questions and methodology. The research is carried qualitatively using semi-structured interviews. The results of the research draw on substantial statements of fourteen members of pedagogical staff. The conclusions of the work present a comprehensive picture of the challenging behaviour problematics. It is indicative of good practice, but also of lack of information and lack of support...

My thesis is focused on the prevention of challenging behaviour in inclusive education. The aim of the work is to describe prevention at a selected elementary school in Karovy Vary, with a focus on pupils with special educational needs. In the theoretical part prevention, challenging behaviour and the features of students with special educational needs are described. Several examples of challenging behaviour in the individual specific students and the prevention of this behaviour are also mentioned. In the practical part common prevention was studied. Later on, how the students with special educational needs participate in preventive activities, and eventually if they have some modifications. The study was performed at the second degree of the selected elementary school in Karlovy Vary. The research was done using analysis of documents, interviews and observations. It was ascertained that the prevention of challenging behaviour towards the mentioned student is not well elaborated. There are obvious only some indications of activity transformation and individualisation of prevetion.

This diploma thesis deals with respite service and issues with providing respite services to parents of children and adults with autism and mental retardation. The opening chapters focus on autistic spectrum disorder in combination with mental retardation and potential challenging behaviour. This work describes therapeutic process for persons with autism and mental retardation and it also describes the issues with providing social service to these persons. This thesis focuses mainly on respite services. The empirical part describes the availability of respite services for families with autistic person and mental retardation in the Czech Republic.

Nowadays, mentally handicapped people are an integral part of our society. Many of them use some social services. And as the rest of the population, even mentally handicapped people sometimes show behaviour which is not appropriate, adequate or somehow disturbs the others ? problem behaviour. When providing social services it is also important so that even these clients have the opportunity to live a satisfactory life and their behaviour does not limit them in using social services. The theoretical part is focused on the information regarding mentally handicapped people who show problem behaviour. It describes individual kinds of problem behaviour, causes of such behaviour and its consequences. It also outlines possible techniques and types of work with clients who are mentally handicapped and show problem behaviour. Furthermore, the work shows specifics of working with such clients when providing social services. The objective of this work was to map and compare types of problem behaviour shown by users of outpatient and in-hospital social services and possibilities working with them. In order to achieve the objective, a quantitative research was selected, specifically a respondents? method, i.e. a questionnaire. The basic target group was workers providing hospitals and outpatient services for mentally handicapped people. The results showed that the existence of problem behaviour among mentally handicapped clients is significant. The most frequent forms are verbal and physical aggression. The workers, when working, use modern work techniques which precede measures limiting a movement. Providing social services is not significantly impacted by clients? behaviour and the workers have the opportunity to develop themselves in the area of problem behaviour in case of mentally handicapped clients. By processing the data, I have identified other areas related to this subject matter that may form a basis for further research. This concerns finding out how much the workers are influenced by the client?s behaviour when working, and whether using modern work methods and making use of prevention mitigate the perception of the clients as problem ones and subsequently the workers? approach to these clients is not influenced.
