Příspěvek zkoumá vrstevnatost urbanistických struktur obcí v severočeském pohraničí, konkrétně na území Šluknovského výběžku. Činí tak skrze odkrývání historických stop osídlení a analýzu proměňujícího se vztahu mezi krajinou, sídly a formou obývání. V původně zemědělských lánových vsích došlo k výraznému přerodu směrem k řemeslné obživě. Ten přerušil přímou vazbu mnoha obyvatel na místní půdu a dal vzniknout druhé, vnitřní vrstvě osídlení. Důsledkem poválečného odsunu a kolektivizace zemědělství pak primární lánová struktura zanikla a dnes zde převládá novější, zcela odlišná, na řemesle založená urbánní forma. Právě tato druhá vlna osídlení v podobě husté rostlé sítě parcel v nivách meandrujících potoků, jež tvoří páteře všech zkoumaných sídel, udává charakter současných intravilánů. Vývojová specifika zkoumaných sídel zasazených do kulturně bohaté krajiny jsou sama o sobě hodnotou. Stejně tak tomu je u historických stop osídlení, které jsou vzácným nositelem kontinuity překlenující destruktivní období 2. poloviny 20. století. Cílem výzkumu je vytvoření modelu systematické interpretace historických venkovských struktur, který by umožnil obcím adaptovat se na soudobé nároky na život ve venkovských sídlech tohoto regionu. Úkolem je proto zanalyzovat obě hlavní vlny osídlení a jejich dochované stopy a nalézt způsob, jak tyto zdánlivě nesourodé struktury provázat a podpořit tak celistvý sídelní rozvoj. Tento příspěvek se v detailu zaměřuje na prvotní lánovou strukturu a systematicky vyhodnocuje její dochované stopy v území. Dále u této i ostatních vrstev osídlení nastiňuje možnosti využití v soudobém sídelním rozvoji. The paper examines the layering of urban structures of municipalities in the North Bohemian border region, specifically in the Šluknov area. It does so by uncovering historical traces of settlement and analyzing the changing relationship between landscape, settlements and form of habitation. In the originally agricultural linear villages, there was a significant transformation towards artisan livelihoods. This severed the direct connection of many residents to the local land and gave rise to a second, internal layer of settlement. As a result of the post-war displacement and collectivization of agriculture, the primary linear structure disappeared and today a newer, completely different, craft-based urban form prevails here. It is this second wave of settlement in the form of a dense organic network of parcels in the floodplains of meandering streams, which forms the backbone of all the researched settlements, that domitanes the character of contemporary urban areas. The development specifics of these settlements set in a culturally rich landscape are a value in themselves. The same is true of historical traces of settlement, which are a rare piece of continuity spanning the destructive period of the second half of the 20th century. The aim of the research is to create a model of systematic interpretation of historical rural structures, which would enable municipalities to adapt to contemporary demands for life in the rural settlements of this region. The task is therefore to analyze the two main waves of settlement and their preserved traces and to find a way to connect these apparently disparate structures and thus support integrated residential development.

As a response to the processes of international migration in the Balkans, the Hungarian government in 2015 constructed a technical border defence system on the southern border of Hungary, also assigning manpower to guard the border. As a response to migration, this is not unique in Europe if we also consider previous and subsequent events. Although this topic has already been addressed by several authors from different perspectives, this paper is the first to analyse in detail the construction and characteristics of the technical border defence system, and the structure and operation of the assigned police and military forces. The paper also examines how government policy related to the protection of the southern border and the fence revived the ‘Hungary, the fortress/bastion of (Christian) Europe’ concept, and also how the Hungarian government communicated this in order to achieve its political objectives.

This bachelor thesis deals with the problem of building a wall on the US-Mexican border during two years of Donald Trump's presidency (January 20, 2017 - January 20, 2019). In particular, it analyzes the rhetoric of Trump's promise to build a wall and compares it to the reality of the US-Mexican border. The thesis finds out why the reality at the border after two years does not correspond to the previous rhetoric, to what extent these promises have been fulfilled and to what problems the construction of the border wall has encountered. The biggest problem was the financing of the wall, when Congress refused to approve the money and this escalating situation led to a shutdown. It is extremely important for Democrats, with Nancy Pelosi and Charles Schumer, that they stayed together in the shutdown and showed how hard it would be for Trump to reach his plan. Eight wall prototypes were built on the border in 2017 for testing. No wall based on these prototypes has been built or funded by Congress to date. The main goal of the bachelor's thesis is to compare the changes of cadastral territory Dobrá Voda. As a comparison, a map dated from 1826 and a current map is used. The bachelor's thesis is handled as a literature research. A border region is an area situated along the border with a neighboring state and includes also the border region of the neighboring state. In Dobra Voda region since 1826, an extension of woods increased from 51,25% to 69,16%, which is almost an 18% increase. On the contrary, grassland area decreased from 27.48% to 20,37%, so by 7,11%. A complete cancellation of fertile land occured as well. This land formed 14.59% of the area in 1826. A part of former fertile land is now marked as infertile land, that takes 5,08% of the area, In 1826, it was only 0,16%. A cancellation of agriculture also probably caused a decline of constructions. This can be explained by the fact that some constructions were used as barns and grain granaries, which gradually disappeared. A number of roads also decreased, because a big part of the roads were unpaved roads, which gradually disappeared as well. Another change was a construction of water area. As for the reason of its existence, there is no information available.

The dissertation thesis covers the theme of the relationships between the changes of administrative borders and the peripheriality of space on the territory of Czechia since the mid-19th century. The author first defines the fundamental objectives and discusses the bases of the research of changes of administrative borders in Czechia in the process of polarization of space, as well as the general background and approaches to the issue of borders and regions, while emphasizing the concept of inner peripheries and internal borderland. The thesis attempts to contribute to the debate regarding: the importance of administrative borders of regions of different scales in the polarization of space; identification, analysis and evaluation of areas that changed their administrative affiliation at the level of mesoregions (regions) and microregions (districts) on the territory of Bohemia and the Vysočina Region in particular; evaluation of the degree of stability of administrative regions and stability of centers of these regions; and to assessment of the importance of the borders of regions in the context of problems associated with the development of peripheries. The bachelor thesis deals with the issue of the cross-border cooperation in the Euroregion Neisse-Nisa-Nysa (ERN) and it concerns to the particular examples of the cooperation between cross-border partners within this association in greater detail. In the introduction of theoretical part are definitions of the general concepts and information about cross-border cooperation in the EU. Subsequently attention is focused directly on the ERN which represents a specific form of cross-border cooperation in the EU. In the practical part information about the Small Projects Fund ERN is made more specific. Then there are introduced seven different cross-border partnerships in the Czech-German (more precisely Czech-Saxon) border and projects of these partners which were supported from the Small Projects Fund ERN in the programming period 2007-2013.

The thesis deals with the historical development of cross-border cooperation in the Euroregion Šumava which is the Czech part of the Czech-German and the Czech-Austrian border defined as Euroregion Šumava/ Bayerischer Wald - Unterer Inn/ Mühlviertel. The main objective is to find out how joint cross- border cooperation has changed from the initial idea of joint cross-border cooperation through the establishment of the Euroregion Šumava to the present. Another objective is to identify regional differences in the development of cross-border cooperation from the perspective of three model areas that have different scale levels. The overall aim is to identify changes in the evolution of cross-border cooperation and an attempt to explain the causes of possible variabilities. The thesis is based on quantitative research in the form of cross-border analysis of completed projects and qualitative research based on structured interviews with selected respondents. A prerequisite of this thesis is both the shift from cross-border cooperation "bottom up" to "top down" and the subsequent interconnection of both forms. The author of this bachelor thesis will be discussing the development in the relationships in the Czech-Austrian borderland after the year 1989, where the main emphasis is mainly put on the activities of Euroregion Silva Nortica (ERSN). ERSN was established on the 28 of May in 2002 and involves the areas of former districts called Jindřichův Hradec, Budweis, Písek and Tábor. In the area of Lower Austria, we are speaking of the Waldviertel region with its Zwettl, Krems, Gmünd, Waidhofen an der Thaya and Horn districts. The main focus of this dissertation will not just include the mapping and the assessment of cross-border cooperation initiated by ERSN, but also its general recognition in the society. In conclusion of this, the part of the thesis will be created by the questionnaire which will find out the awarness of ERSN in the selected high schools (in the South Bohemia and Lower Austria).

Anglický abstrakt diplomové práce - Kateřina Majerová Policejní spolupráce na česko-bavorské hranici v letech 1989-2012 This diploma thesis deals with police cooperation on the Czech-Bavarian border. The police forces of a particular state are supposed to promote and enforce abiding by the law in a territory surrounded by the state borders. Borders are more and more penetrable even for criminal issues; therefore, the cooperation with colleagues on the other side of the borderline is essential for fulfilment of the above-mentioned task. In terms of time the topic of this thesis is delimited by the period between 1989 and 2012. The aim of the thesis is to verify the fulfilment of Karl Deutsch's concept of transactionalism on the example of this particular cooperation. For this purpose the author examines three areas on which she demonstrates the fulfilment of this concept - compatibility of states in the view of police cooperation, existence of a common interest and forms of interaction and their development. This paper deals with the main geopolitical aspects of India-Bangladesh relation. It covers the process of creation of the Indo-Bangladesh border, problems originating from its constitution including the Cooch Behar enclaves and efforts of the both countries to resolve these problems by the means of bilateral treaties. It also focuses on illegal migration from Bangladesh to India, analyses its causes and its influence on the security in the North-east India and Indian political scene. Disputes concernig the fresh-water sharing, emerging from Indian dams and irrigation canals, either allready built, or planned. The Thesis "Functions of European State Borders: A Case Study of Słubfurt" analyses Polish- German border in Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice, where conceptual artist Michael Kurzwelly realizes his project Słubfurt. A theory of an Irish professor Liam O'Dowd relating to a typology of state borders' functions is applied. In this theory O'Dowd distinguishes four border metaphors: a barrier, a bridge, a source and a symbol of identity. In the first chapter of the thesis the character of European inter-state borders and cross-border cooperation is described and O'Dowd's theory is explained. The second part deals with asymmetrical character of Polish- German border and Euro-region Pro Europa Viadrina and analyses them within this theory. The focus of this thesis lies in the third chapter which describes the realities of a twin-city Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice and particularly Kurzwelly's artistic and activist project, in which identity of the fictional city Słubfurt (connecting the two cities together) is being created. This is again analysed by means of the mentioned border theory. The thesis also answers the question which border functions are promoted by the European integration project and in which relation are these efforts with the activities of the Słubfurt project.

This thesis deals with the motive of the city in the Daniela Hodrova trilogy (Tryznive mesto - The Doleful City) and in the Michal Ajvaz novel (Druhe mesto - The Other City). It focuses on differences and details in the motive treatment, follows the topological line of the concrete sujets, notices the role of the centre, the periphery, the border and the trace in both books. Author of the thesis inspects the notion of 'the inner city' - not only the 'inner place' within the motive of the city, but also the 'house vs. home' opposition. Large space is given to the poetic of city myths in both authors.

The theme of the dissertation submitted is the novel Devil Guardian, whose author is a Mexican writer Xavier Velasco. This dissertation is the very first theoretical work in the Czech environment, devoted to the above-mentioned piece of literature published in 2004. In a sense, Devil Guardian represents a characteristic Mexican novel of the early 21st century, combining tradition and novelty in a surprising and original manner. A significant feature of the contemporary Mexican literature is a departure from the theme of Mexicanity, generally from a programmatic indulging in so-called national literature. Velasco's novel is an exemplary, however, not only piece of literature proving that the literary break-up with Mexico is neither an exclusive nor a dominant attribute of the contemporary Mexican fiction. In Devil Guardian Velasco focuses his mind on the theme of personal and national identity, which he treats in a considerably nontraditional manner, giving an ironical turn to speak to a hypermodern girl moving in the globalized world. The thesis "Regional Identity of the Residents and Holiday-makers in the Borderlands; Case Study: Bor in the Tachov Region" aims on the assessment of the regional identity of the residents and holiday-makers in the border area of the Czech Republic- Bor region, and then finding of the awareness of the solidarity of the users of the area in which they are living and which they are using for the purpose of recreation. Beside the assessment of the regional identity in the Bor region the thesis aims on comparison of the research outcomes of the chosen area with the overall outcomes of the grant project number 43/03/1491 and finding specifics through the questionnaire survey and guided dialogues, including tabular and graphical representation of the outcomes. Another aim is the assessment of the regional identity based on the promotional materials. The model area of Bor in the Tachov region is an example of the border periphery of the Czech Republic where the forming of regional identity was deeply affected by the World War II and successive settlement. This dissertation is focused on problems of borders, frontiers, frontier's effects of Czech-German relationships and the progress of their cooperation. The main part of this work is monitoring of the progress and changes of the basic demographic and socioeconomic indicators during the time. The district Klatovy near the German boundary is comparing with the evolution of indicators represented all area of Czech Republic. The gain is to mark out if the boundary areas show another tends and if we are able to evaluate it positively or negatively.

The beginning of the work describes problems of the border regions in general. It outlines the opportunities for development of these areas and mentions possibilities that are offered by European Union within the framework of economic and social cohesion. It also briefly mentions the Financial Mechanism of EEA and Norway. Although, the list is not exhaustive, it gives a picture of what options the regions have. Another part of the work is solely dedicated to cross-border cooperation in the Czech-Saxon border area in light of European subsidies. It compares the previous and the current period in terms of objectives, implementation structures and last year also in terms of drawdown. It refers to what potential the Czech-Saxon border area has and -- based on questionnaire survey - tries to determine how the representatives of municipalities in Czech-Saxon border area perceive the cooperation and where they see the major problems.
