Home artificial nutrition includes application of enteral and parenteral nutrition in home environment, in cases of natural nutrition access failure. Home enteral nutrition uses various modality and ways, when persist the functional bowel. Chronic intestinal failure indicates dependence of home parenteral nutrition and is aplicated with central venous accesses. Home artificial nutrition improves patient´s quality of life and is more economical compared with hospital care.

Home parenteral nutrition is the only option to provide nutrition in a number of patients. Care of venous entry, its management and treatment of complications resulting from its use importantly affect patient survival. Appropriate care of the catheter and the use of current knowledge may prolong the lifespan of the catheter, reduce patient morbidity and mortality and thus increase quality of life of patients who are dependent on home parenteral nutrition. The present paper summarizes recommendations for the care of long-term venous catheters.

Objective: To report our experience with long-term parenteral nutrition in pregnancy., Subject: Case report., Setting: Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Department of Geriatrics and Metabolism, Department of Paediatrics, Medical Faculty of Charles University and Faculty Hospital, Hradec Králové., Subject and Method: We describe successful pregnancy in a woman on long-term parenteral nutrition., Conclusion: Total parenteral nutrition is effective and safe method, which can solve maternal malnutrition and provide optimal conditions for fetal growth and development.
