Accelerated pace of life and easy access to consumerism, hypokinesis and excessive caloric intake leads to increase in obesity. From the viewpoint of somatic diagnosis overweight and obesity signify excess weight, significant increase in circumferential parameters primarily relating to the body and proximal parts of lower limbs, high proportion of fat component, regression of muscle fraction and possibly sarcopenia. An integral part of the weight loss course is a change in approach to nutrition and physical stereotypes. Appropriate physical activity that is accessible to everyone, regardless of age and gender, is walking. The aim of this study was to find the influence of the time of year on the degree of success in weight loss for 197 female participants of the courses in weight loss (STOB course). Partial objectives were to monitor changes in body fractions and the amount of physical activity in relation to the seasons. STOB weight loss courses use cognitive behavioural therapy. Courses start in January (Course A), April (Course B) and in September (Course C), lasting for 11 weeks, 3 hours per week and the courses content is entirely within the STOB female lecturers' experience. InBody 720 device by means of the Direct Multi-frequency Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis Method (DSM-BIA Method) was used to define body composition parameters. To determine the average daily number of footsteps during the physical activity the Yamax pedometer was used. Assessment of physical activity shows that female participants in the Course B, which commences at the beginning of April, are the best in meeting the general recommendations related to physical activity. BFP (Body Fat Percentage; %), BFM (Body Fat Mass; kg), VFA (Visceral Fat Area; cm2), body weight (kg), BMI (Body Mass Index; kg/m2) and BFMI (Body Fat Mass Index; kg/m2) and Obesity Index (%) lower average values vary significantly, after the course completion, in a different time of year. The biggest change in the sense of strengthening, respectively increase in the amount of lean body mass and reduction of the fat component, was seen in women undergoing Course C. Difference in VFA average values show significant variance between A–C and B–C courses. Assessment of the actual level of physical activity of monitored groups classified individuals as rather physically active and active. It is evident that monitoring of physical activity through pedometers is strongly motivating for obese women. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
