Također, ispituje se učinkovitost određenih dodataka prehrani, poput magnezija, riboflavina, vitamina D, L-karnitina i koenzima Q10, u svrhu ublažavanja simptoma i sprečavanja napada migrene. The frequency of migraines is increasing, but the causes and mechanisms of this disease still remain unclear. Research has shown that the clinical expression of migraine is influenced by eating habits and certain dietary elements. Several dietary triggers of migraine have been identified, resulting in the definition of preventive strategies such as an elimination diet, a balanced diet, and the keeping of parallel diet and headache diaries. The dietary triggers of migraine that patients most often report are starvation, alcohol, chocolate and cheese. Also, the effectiveness of certain dietary supplements, such as magnesium, riboflavin, vitamin D, L-carnitine, and coenzyme Q10, is being examined to alleviate symptoms and prevent migraine attacks. For example, supplementation with riboflavin at a dose of 400 mg daily for 3 months resulted in a 50% reduction in migraine attacks in 59% of patients. Although there is inconsistency in the literature and no definitive conclusions have been reached, the available data suggest possible benefits of nutritional interventions for individual migraine patients.
