The Covid-19 pandemic has affected every single aspect of life including conversational practices both online and offline. New lexical and sociolinguistic changes have become part of our lives, which is especially vivid in the emergence of Covid-19 trending neologisms. The present study utilizes the descriptive-qualitative design in the analysis of morphological structures of neologisms in Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian languages. Specifically, the paper is based on the analysis of morphological structures of the neologisms that use the discourse of the Covid pandemic as a base/modifier, i.e., that contain either corona- / korona-, coronavirus- / koronavirus-, Covid-19- / Kovid-19-, and Covid- / Kovid- as a base of the neologism. The dataset consists of over 10,000 headlines related to Covid-19 information, found and collected in online newspaper sections Koronavirus – Dnevni Avaz (Bosnia and Herzegovina) between March 2020 and March 2021. The results show that there is an intensive usage of the Covid-19 neologisms, which manifests the dynamics of language as new words are used, added, and integrated into conversational practices daily. Moreover, the majority of these neologisms use the discourse of the Covid pandemic as a base/modifier. This paper aims to shed light not only on the meanings of the new words and their structure and function, but it can also serve as a foundation for creating a special Covid-19 glossary on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The paper is an attempt to redefine the concept of resilience in the context of changes taking place globally. One of the key changes was caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. It has shown the inadequacy of the neoliberal discourse of resilience that shifts responsibility to individuals who must be prepared to overcome the circumstances of crisis or shock. However, resilience can be seen in terms of solidarity, dignity and responsibility towards others. Resilience also implies strategies that involve large investments in public health, ecology and self-sustainable solutions to battle climate change that is causing infectious diseases. The purpose of this paper is to raise awareness of the need to start creating a set of public policies that would imply an ethical evaluation related to the success or failure of treating others responsibly.

This paper deals with the analysis of the effects and perception of infoemia both on social networks and in the sphere of civic journalism during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Comparative analysis of the perception of the COVID-19 virus pandemic in developed democratic societies and its repercussions (to the audience above all) and comparison with the informational values of comments on the most visited online portals in Bosnia and Herzegovina are the essence of this work. In pursuing these goals, the work is divided into two parts. The first part of the paper analyzes the existential dissemination of information about the first and second wave of COVID-19 pandemics in the world with a focus on social networks and citizen writing – an audience about pandemics that has undoubtedly taken all the notes of infodemium where it is difficult to determine the information value of comments or writing prosumer. Web 2.0 as the dominant dissemination tool of all types of media content and the general approach and freedom of commenting have influenced the experience and – consecutive – perception of the available information. The informative cacophony affected the audience (which is also a generator of “informative” content) in several ways mentioned in the first part of the paper. The second part of the work deals exclusively with the analysis of the content of comments on several of the most visited informational portals of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Most comments have been found to lack usable information value and contribute to media cacophony, and from the point of view of the value of news usually do not provide useful information or at best provide information whose credibility (although they may seem plausible and/or argumentative) cannot be easily verified. The conclusion of the paper is that the information value of comments from visitors to bh information portals is not particularly high in the slightest regard from the content level with rare examples of (semi)quality information of usable content.

This paper analyzes internet memes pertaining to Covid-19. We analyzed more than 200 memes over nine months. By utilizing Blending Theory and Discourse Viewpoint, we attempt to explain the creative inner workings of memes as well as how meaning is negotiated on the internet. We were clearly able to detect memes synchronously following the actual development of Covid-19. We show that meme makers use visuals metonymically to address the current state of Covid-19 while the overall message of memes is driven by simile. As much as memes draw on the concept of Covid-19, they also feed back to it in a loop of self-reference. Along with their underlying metaphoric nature, memes convey a feels-like attitude with two main phases emerging from their usage, i.e., the Observer Phase and the Experiencer Phase. The former showed memes at a stage where Covid-19 was not yet a pandemic (but perceived through media coverage from elsewhere) while the latter, the Experiencer Phase, clearly showed that meme creators had experienced the virus themselves. As for the timeframe covered, however, we conclude that memes do not show full conceptual integration as Covid-19 was not yet fully entrenched.

The paper aims to investigate the theoretical assumption that the value system (according to the Schwartz model) is associated with compliance with recommendations to combat the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the theoretical assumption, persons whose value system emphasizes social focus and whose values are self-transcendence and conservation will comply with measures to a greater extent. On the other hand, people whose value system is focused on personal focus and whose values self-direction and openness to change will be less compliant with measures for combating the spread of the virus. The research was conducted in three Southeastern European countries – Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia using a survey of 1024 students. The Schwartz scale on basic human values was used as a research instrument. The research was conducted at the very beginning of the pandemic (March and April 2020). The results of the hierarchical regression showed that the values of openness to change (personal focus) and conservation (social focus) are significant predictors of compliance with measures and trust in institutions and sex.

The results of researches on distance teaching from the teacher’s aspect during the state of emergency are presented in this paper, there are the teachers of primary schools, from the territory of Vojvodina (Serbia). The aim is to answer questions about how the respondents assess competencies for distance learning, job satisfaction, and how demanding are the different teaching platforms. The sample consisted of 574 teachers. The questionnaire The teacher’s and educator’s thoughts and experiences on distance teaching during the state of emergency was used. The questionnaire was distributed online. The data was collected from April 2020 until the end of the school year. Respondents assess that they have technical and IT competencies, acquired in informal education and that they need further education. Distance teaching is a professional challenge and is stressful, and the vast majority of respondents prefer regular teaching. The stress level is higher, more work, student engagement, and clarity of expectations from teachers are reduced. Respondents most often used already known communication channels during distance teaching: mail and Viber.

Trust in institutions is important in the functioning of an individual society, especially in emergency situations such as the COVID-19 pandemic.The aim of this paper is to investigate the trust of young people in education during the COVID-19 pandemic in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia and to investigate the connection between trust in education and their value system. The research was conducted on 1024 students from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia using an online survey. The PVQ-RR questionnaire on 10 basic human values (Schwartz 2017) was used in the research – self-direction, benevolence, stimulation, achievement, tradition, security, conformity, power, universalism and hedonism.The results of the multiple regression indicate that the value of conformity is a significant predictor of trust in education in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia, while the values of tradition, conformity, stimulation and universalism are important predictors of trust in education in Croatia. These differences in results are very likely related to the specific situation in Croatia, which suffered a devastating earthquake in addition to the pandemic in its capital, which should be taken into account in the future when creating and implementing psycho-social support and assistance programs.
