Objective To investigate the safety and efficacy of Embosphere microspheres in the treatment of advanced primary liver cancer．Methods Forty-three patients with primary liver cancer diagnosed by CT or MRI were divided into two groups according to different embolic agents：22 in the Embosphere microsphere group and 21 in the lipiodol + Embosphere microsphere group．The changes of liver and kidney function before and 1~7 days and 1~3 months postoperatively were observed.．The difference between the two groups was compared according to the mRECIST criteria，the adverse reaction and complication．Results The changes of liver function in preoperative and postoperative 1~7 days were statistically significant(P<0.05) ．Two groups of preoperative and postoperative 1~3 months liver and kidney function changes compared P>0.05 and there was no difference statistically．According to the mRECIST criteria，the effective rate of both groups was statistically significant(X2＝4.636， P＝ 0.0313) ．There were no serious adverse reactions and complications after the operation．Conclusions In the chemical therapy，pure embolization is safe and effective to the middle-stage primary liver cancer in Embosphere microsphere group． [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
