[Objective] To improve the production and processing quality of Shangluo Ipomoea batatas, research the main physicochemical properties of Ipomoea batatas under different processing techniques, and explore the effects of different processing techniques on the polysaccharide and protein content of Ipomoea batatas. [Method] Four processing methods, namely, hot air processing, microwave processing, water boiling processing and steaming processing, were used to score the appearance, texture, taste and residual fiber of Ipomoea batatas using 9- point system. The polysaccharide content in Ipomoea batatas was determined by phenol concentrated sulfuric acid method, and the protein content in Ipomoea batatas was determined by Coomassie brilliant blue. [Result] There were differences in appearance, texture, taste and residual fiber of Ipomoea batatas under different processing techniques. The polysaccharide content of Ipomoea batatas treated with different processing methods varies, steaming for 6 minutes at 60 ℃ for drying>microwave drying at 30 W>hot air drying at 60 ℃ >water boiling for 4 minutes at 60 ℃ for drying. The protein content varied with different processing techniques, with microwave drying at 30 W>hot air drying at 50 ℃ > steaming for 6 min and then drying at 60 ℃ >boiling for 4 min and drying at 60 ℃ . [Conclusion] The processing method of steaming and hot air drying at 60 ℃ preserves the most polysaccharide content, and the protein content is preserved the most after microwave drying at 30 W. The sensory quality characteristics of Ipomoea batatas steamed for 6 min at 60 ℃ and dried to constant weight are superior to other processing techniques. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To reveal the effects of chlorophyll fluorescence of key stages of storage roots formation in grafted overhead-sweetpotato cultivation( GOSC) system,the chlorophyll fluorescence was measured in this stage by Chlorophyll fluorescence spectrometer MINI-IMAGING-PAM( Walz,Germany). In the stage of 0-20 days after burying stem of fibrous roots growing,the maximal photochemical efficiency (Fv/ Fm)and the effective quantum yield of photosystem II( Yield II) decreased,the non-photochemical quenching( NPQ) increased,and the non-photochemical quenching( ETR) increased first then decreased. In the stage of 20- 45 days after burying stem of fibrous roots swollen to storage roots,the Fv/ Fm,Yield II and ETR increased continuously,but the NPQ decreased first then increased,indicating the increasing of excitation energy capture by open PS II reaction centers of leaves and improving photosynthetic capacity. But 45- 60 days after burying stem,the photosynthetic capacity decreased. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Two-year field experiments were conducted in 2017-2018 to examine the effects of wheat straw returning and fertilization on soil fertility and enzyme activities, as well as the yield and qua-lity of edible sweetpoato. There were five treatments, including conventional fertilization+zero straw (CK), conventional fertilization+50% straw returning (50%S), zero fertilization+100% straw returning (100%S-F), conventional fertilization+100% straw returning (100%S), conventional fertilization+100% straw retuning+150 kg N·hm -2 (100%S+N). The treatments of straw returning and fertilization significantly increased the contents of available phosphorus (P), hydroly-zable nitrogen (N), total N, and organic matter in soils, and increased the activities of soil catalase, alkaline phosphorylase, urease, and invertase. The storage root yield, single root fresh weight and commodity potato rate were significantly increased under the treatments of straw returning and fertilization. The storage root yield was the lowest under the treatment of 50%S. After two years of straw returning, storage root yield and commodity potato rate were the highest under the treatment of 100%S. In general, the contents of starch and protein in sweetpotato were increased after two years of straw returning and fertilization, but the contents of reducing sugar and soluble sugar were decreased under 100%S and 100%S+N treatments. Our results suggested that straw returning in full quantity was better than straw returning in half quantity. The storage root yield and commodity potato rate was the highest under the combination of full quantity straw returning and conventional fertilization, with the taste of sweetpotato being changed. Thus, the amount of nitrogen fertilizer should be appropriately reduced in actual practice.

It is an effective approach to control invasive plants based on the allelopathic effect of native plants with higher economic values, from the perspective of allelopathy. The aim of this study was to test the allelopathic effect of a local crop, sweet potato ( Ipomoea batatas ), on the invasive plant Alternanthera philoxeroides . Water extracts from different organs of sweet potato (roots, stems, leaves) with three concentrations (0.025, 0.05, 0.1 g·mL -1 ) were used in the study. To test the effect of sweet potato on rhizome growth of A. philoxeroides , the morphological index (ramet number, node number, leaf number, leaf area, plant height, total dry weight and root number of new ramets), allelopathic response index, trait values (succulent degree, root-shoot ratio, specific leaf area, leaf mass ratio, stem mass ratio, root mass ratio), CAT, POD, MDA and SOD in young leaves were measured. The results showed that 1) Water extracts from different organs of sweet potato with different concentrations differed in their effects on the growth of A. philoxeroides . Water extract from root with 0.1 g·mL -1 significantly inhibited all morphological indices. Except total dry weight and root number, other morphological indices decreased significantly with increasing concentration of water extract from all organs. 2) The synthetic allelopathic response index (RI) was negative under all treatments, indicating that water extract of sweet potato had negative effects on all indices of A. philoxeroides and thus inhibited their growth. Among all the treatments, water extract from root with a concentration of 0.1 g·mL -1 had the strongest allelopathic inhibition (RI=-0.73), followed by that from stem with a concentration of 0.1 g·mL -1 (RI=-0.44) and from root with a concentration of 0.05 g·mL -1 (RI=-0.44). 3) Water extract of sweet potato had significant inhibitory effects on the degree of succulence, root-shoot ratio, specific leaf area, and leaf mass ratio, but did not affect stem mass ratio and root mass ratio. 4) Water extract of sweet potato significantly increased the contents of MDA and SOD in the fresh leaves of A. philoxeroides , while had no effect on the contents of CAT and POD. All these results indicates that water extract of sweet potato significantly suppress the ramet growth of A. philoxeroides .

To explore the alleviation effect of spraying phytohormone on physiological characteristics and yield of sweet potato under drought stress in different periods, and to determine the best period of spraying external plant hormones, the effects on endogenous hormone content, photosynthetic fluorescence characteristics and yield of sweet potato were examined by spraying 6-benzylaminopurine (6-BA), α-naphthylacetic acid (NAA) and abscisic acid (ABA) respectively under drought stress after transplanting for 20 days (early stage), 60 days (middle stage) and 100 days (later stage) under artificial water control. The results showed that compared with spraying water, exogenous phytohormones significantly increased the yield of sweet potato under drought stress, among which 6-BA had the highest effect, followed by NAA and ABA. The effect of spraying in early stage was better than that in middle and late stages. Exogenous phytohormones significantly increased photosynthetic and chlorophyll fluorescence parameters of sweet potato leaves under drought stress at different stages, alleviated the decrease in eatin ribonucleoside (ZR) and auxin (IAA) caused by drought. Stepwise regression analysis showed that endogenous hormones and photosynthetic characteristics were key factors affecting yield of sweet potato. Results of path analysis showed that spraying exogenous plant hormone affected sweet potato yield by changing net photosynthetic rate (P n ), IAA, ZR, maximal photochemical efficiency and photochemical performance index under drought stress at early stage. Therefore, spraying 6-BA could regulate the content of endogenous hormones and improve photosynthetic characteristics of sweet potato at the early growth stage, and thus effectively alleviate the loss of yield caused by drought stress.

Objective: To observe the effect of purple sweet potato anthocyanins on the proliferation of bladder cancer cell line BIU87 and to investigate the molecular mechanisms. Methods: Bladder cancer BIU87 cells were cultured and exposed to anthocyanins at the different concentrations of 100, 200, 400, and 800 μg/ml respectively. The growth inhibition of anthocyanins on BIU87 cells were evaluated by morphometry and cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assay, and the cell apoptosis rate was detected by Flow cytometry (FCM). Results: Morphometry showed that the number of BIU87 cells decreased, the volume shrank, the intercellular space enlarged, the ability of cell adherence weakened, and the cell shape changed when the concentration of anthocyanins increased. CCK-8 assay showed that when 100, 200, 400, 800 μg/ml anthocyanins treated BIU87 cells for 48 h, the absorbance was 24 ± 0.07, 1.15 ± 0.11, 0.90 ± 0.08, 0.56 ± 0.09, respectively. Compared with the control group, anthocyanins-treated groups significantly inhibited the proliferation of BIU87 cells ( P <0.05). FCM test showed that after treatment with different doses of anthocyanins, the apoptosis rate was 7.31%, 11.11%, 25.96%, 36.28%, respectively, and with the concentration of anthocyanins being higher, the apoptosis rate of BIU87 cells was being higher. Conclusion: Purple sweet potato anthocyanins can inhibit the growth of bladder cancer BIU87 cells through inducing cell apoptosis in a dose-dependent manner.

Objective: To investigate the effect of purple sweet potato on lipid metabolism and oxidative stress in hyperlipidemic rats., Methods: Forty male SD rats were randomly divided into 4 groups: normal control group, high-fat control group, high purple sweet potato groups, low purple sweet potato group. The rats were fed with different diets for 6w respectively., Results: Serum TC, TG levels were significantly lower in high dosage group than in high-fat control group; while only serum TG was significantly lower in low dosage group than in high-fat control group, these changes started at the third week and lasted to the end of experiment. Serum LDL-C and AI levels were significantly lower in high and low dosage group than in high-fat control group, whereas, serum HDL-C was significantly higher than that in high-fat control group at w3 and lasted to the end of experiment. Serum SOD was significantly higher in high and low dosage group than in high-fat control group, whereas, serum MDA was significantly lower than that in high-fat control group at w6., Conclusion: Purple sweet potato can decrease serum lipids and reduce hepatic oxidative stress in hyperlipidemic rats.
