2. Experimental and simulation study on CO2 mineralization under diffusion control

Because basalt formation is rich in calcium, magnesium, iron and other bivalent metal elements, it can transform injected CO2 into carbonate rock through efficient mineralization reaction, so as to achieve a safe and effective permanent storage of CO2. However, the research on the mechanism of CO2 mineralization and storage is incomplete, and most studies ignore the effect of diffusion on the mechanism of CO2 mineralization. By conducting experiments with the sand grains being filled in the tube or scatted in a beaker, the CO2-water-rock reactions with different minerals, different particle sizes and different reaction time are investigated. The rock samples after the reaction are analyzed by multi-dimensional analysis, including Raman spectra, inorganic carbon content and SEM-EDS, thus clarifying the importance of diffusion in the CO2 mineralization and the spatio-temporal evolution of CO2 mineralization products under diffusion control. At the same time, the numerical simulation model of the tube filling experiment is established by TOUGHREACT, and the accuracy of the numerical simulation model is ensured by fitting the physical experiment results. On this basis, more studies on the law of the influencing factors are carried out, and the mechanistic explanation for the physical experimental phenomena is provided. The results of physical experiment and numerical simulation show that: ① For the experiment carried out with olivine grains scattered at the bottom of beaker, no diffusion occurred. At this situation, after 14 days’ reaction, no mineral carbonation was observed. Meanwhile, after 28 days marginal amount of magnesite was observed. ② In contrast, in the filled tubes, under the control of diffusion, the main precipitates in the olivine filled tube are magnesite, and the precipitates in the natural basalt filled tube are mainly calcite and siderite, with magnesite as auxiliary. At the same mineral particle size and the same reaction time, the CO2 mineralization rate in natural basalt is much smaller than that of olivine, because olivine has the fastest dissolution rate compared with other constituent minerals of basalt. ③ In olivine or basalt filled tubes, the carbonate precipitates are distributed ununiformly along the filled tubes. The root cause of this phenomenon is explained by numerical simulation, i.e., under the control of diffusion, there are concentration gradients of pH, DIC and bivalent metal cations in the packed bed, and the concentration gradients are different in different directions. ④ The specific mineral surface has a significant influence on the CO2-water-rock reaction, which not only affects the mineralization efficiency but also affects the spatial distribution of the mineralized products, and finally affects the porosity distribution of the porous media after the reaction. ⑤ Compared with pressure, temperature has more influence on CO2 mineralization. The precipitation of calcite, siderite and carbonate increases significantly when the temperature increases from 65 ℃ to 85 ℃, but only the precipitation of magnesite increases significantly when the temperature increases from 85 ℃ to 100 ℃. The pressure has little effect on the formation of calcite precipitate, but has no effect on the formation of magnesite and siderite.

CO2 storage in basalt formation has received much attention as one of the new CO2 geological storage methods worldwide. It has been successfully implemented in Iceland and the United States. During the process of carbon storage in basalt, CO2 is transformed into solid minerals, which differs significantly from carbon storage in sandstone reservoirs in terms of CO2 injection method, burial depth, and physical property requirements of reservoir cap. Significant differences are also found in both monitoring schemes. By studying the Wallula basalt storage project in the United States and the Carbfix mineralization storage project in Iceland, this study compared and summarized the monitoring schemes of basalt storage for different CO2 injection phases (supercritical and gas dissolved state). The monitoring systems of basalt storage, saline aquifer storage, oil and gas reservoir storage were further compared. The storage monitoring system for sandstone reservoir focuses on the structural integrity of the CO2 reservoir and evaluating the change of CO2 concentration along the potential leakage path. The monitoring period is usually more than 50 years. In contrast, basalt mineralization and storage technology focus on the mineralization reaction of “water-CO2-basalt”. Its monitoring system is mainly to describe the property changing pattern of each substance from downhole fluid (chemical compositions, tracer concentrations, pH, etc.) during the storage cycle. Moreover, it evaluates the degree of mineralization reaction and the storage efficiency of basalt qualitatively and quantitatively. Finally, based on the systematic and comprehensive monitoring scheme of saline aquifer and oil and gas reservoir storage, the basalt-CO2 mineralization storage monitoring technology is analyzed systematically and a complete set of basalt-CO2 mineralization storage monitoring scheme and process is summarized. By comparing different CO2 storage monitoring systems, this study proposes a universal “subsurface-wellbore-surface-ground” monitoring scheme for basalt-CO2 mineralization: monitoring scope, purpose, program, and alert system. This provides basic information for the future basalt-CO2 mineralization storage demonstration project.

8. Thermal protection performance of three-layer combination of fire-fighting protective clothing materials.

Fire-fighting protective clothing is mostly made of outer layer, waterproof breathable layer and comfort layer, and the weight of the combined sample of 3 layers is directly related to the weight of the protective clothing. In order to enhance the thermal protection performance of the 3-layer composite sample, achieve lightweight fire-fighting protective clothing and improve the efficiency of fire-fighting and rescue, the aramid double-layer fabric and the basalt/flame retardant viscose coated fabric were woven, and the aramid double-layer +PTFE membrane fabric was prepared. Two kinds of comfort layer fabric and one kind of lightweight waterproof breathable layer material were selected to make different combination samples and the thermal protection performance were tested. The test results show that the basalt/flame retardant adhesive coated fabric structure is basically complete after the thermal protection performance test of the 3-layer composite sample, and the PTFE film of the waterproof breathable layer is charred and damaged, and the waterproof performance is lost. The TPP value of the combined sample with an aramid double-layer fabric as the outer layer and an aramid blend concave-convex fabric as the comfort layer is 1 495. 2 kW·s/m², the sample thickness is greater than 3 mm. 11. Influence of basalt fiber diameter on the performance of its asphalt mixture.

In order to study the influence of diameter on the performance of basalt fiber-asphalt mixture, AC-13 asphalt mixtures mixed with basalt fibers with diameters of 7, 16 and 25 μm were designed and prepared. Rutting test, uniaxial penetration test, low temperature trabecular test, immersion Marshall test and freeze-thaw splitting test were used to study its road performance. Ideal cracking test and dynamic modulus test were used to test its mechanical properties. The results show that the diameter of basalt fiber has a great effect on the improvement of various performance indexes of asphalt mixture. The optimum oil-stone ratio of asphalt mixture increases slightly with the decrease of basalt fiber diameter. Under the same fiber content and fiber length, the smaller the fiber diameter, the larger amount of fibers, and the richer the reinforcement network. Therefore, the 7 μm diameter basalt fiber has the most significant improvement effect on the high and low frequency dynamic modulus, medium and low temperature crack resistance and high temperature deformation resistance of asphalt mixture. Good skid resistance of pavement is an important prerequisite to ensure the safety of driving. And the selection of reasonable anti-skid evaluation index and evaluation method is also an important prerequisite. Firstly, steel slag and basalt are selected as coarse aggregate, and the test pavement is laid according to a certain proportion of the surface layer of high-speed pavement. Secondly, full-size accelerated loading equipment is selected to simulate the accelerated loading experiments of vehicle driving, and a fixed number of loading times is set, and texture data of the pavement after wear are collected by high-precision three-dimensional texture acquisition equipment after each loading stage is completed, and finally, texture parameters are extracted to combine with the texture of pavement to analyze the wear process of the pavement. Vesiculate amygdaloidal basalt stands out as a recently recognized primary reservoir within Urho area, the northwestern periphery of Junggar Basin. Notably, a significant proportion of the volcanic rock-type oil and gas reservoirs discovered in this region is affiliated with the volcanic formations of Hala'alate Formation. Within this stratigraphic unit, a distinct segment characterized by vesiculate amygdaloidal basalt exhibits remarkable development, encompassing over 78% of the total thickness of the strata. This particular interval serves as an optimal candidate for in-depth studies on volcanic rock reservoir characteristics. The amygdaloid bodies in these basalts predominantly consist of secondary calcite, which demonstrates a high solubility in water. These amygdaloid bodies often assume circular to semi-circular configurations, with many interconnected in patterns resembling networks, branches, or irregular structures. Statistical analyses corroborate that subjecting these amygdaloid bodies to dissolution in wellbore fluids results in a significant increase in porosity, approximately ranging from 3.6 to 4.5 times, effectively rendering them highly favorable as reservoir lithology. A robust assessment of the reservoir quality considers three distinct parameters, including stomatal unit area proportion, the proportion of connectivity, and the proportion of porosity enhancement stemming from amygdaloid dissolution. When all three of these criteria achieve excellence, the reservoir attains a classification of excellent reservoir. Meanwhile, a classification of favorable reservoir is attributed when a minimum of two criteria reaches an excellent level. A prudent estimation indicates that over 50% of the 110 samples obtained from a dataset surpass the established criteria for a favorable reservoir, thus demonstrating a noteworthy potential for reservoir development. The above reservoir division scheme provides a reference for establishing comprehensive evaluation scheme of evaluating the reservoir performance specific to vesiculate amygdaloidal basalts. Tn order to improve the performance of asphalt in pavement, basalt fiber, nano-ZnO and nano-TiO2 are used to composite the modified asphalt. The basic properties and rheological properties of composite modified asphalt were studied by three index of asphalt, Brookfield rotational viscosity and temperature sweep test, and the thin-film oven test (TFOT) and the pressurized aging vessel test (PAV) were used to simulate different aging states of asphalt to analyze the anti-aging performance of the composite modified asphalt. The results showed that with the increase of nano-ZnO and nano-TiO2 content, the penetration, softening point and viscosity of modified asphalt increased, and its high temperature performance was improved. The rutting factor G / sin§ and the fatigue factor G • sin§ of the composite modified asphalt were significantly improved, and its antirutting performance was improved, but its fatigue resistance was decreased. Compared the complex modulus, fatigue factor-temperature relationship curves of asphalt under different aging conditions, its anti-aging performance increased with the increase of nanocomposite modifier content. Through comprehensive comparison and selection, the optimal dosage of nanocomposite modifier was recommended to be 4%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Southwestern Guizhou is a famous Carlin-type gold mineralization area in China, with a known gold resource of approximately 750 tons. In recent years, discoveries of basalt-hosted gold deposits have been made in this area, with the large-scale gold deposit, Jiadi, and the medium-sized gold deposit, Damaidi, as typical representatives, leading to breakthroughs and understanding in mineral exploration. The primary host rocks for native gold mineralization in this area are basalt and sedimentary rocks. Through comparative analysis and research of basalt-hosted gold deposits and sedimentary rock-hosted gold deposits in Southwestern Guizhou, the following conclusions are drawn: The definition of Carlin-type gold deposits may have certain limitations and needs further expansion. Basalt-hosted gold deposits and sedimentary rock-hosted gold deposits in Southwestern Guizhou share similar typical characteristics and are the Carlin-type gold deposits resulting from the same regional magmatic fluid metallogenesis, and may have formed in the same regional metallogenic event. Therefore, they should be considered systematically in deep exploration and research work; 2 The combination of structures (anticlines, domes, faults, SBT) + favorable rock assemblages (carbonate rocks with a thickness greater than 100 m and overlying clastic rocks or basalt/tuff with a thickness greater than 50 m) + abnormal patterns of Au - As - Sb - Hg - Tl + alterations of surrounding rocks (silicification, pyrite mineralization, arsenopyrite mineralization), may indicate the presence of Carlin-type gold deposits at depth; 3 Basaltic rocks are also excellent host rocks for Carlin-type gold mineralization. The host rocks and host stratigraphy of Carlin- type gold deposits exhibit diversity, and almost all rocks and stratigraphy in the region can be considered host rocks and host stratigraphy for Carlin-type gold deposits. Desert sand from Xinjiang was used as fine aggregate to partially replace engineering sand, and basalt fiber was mixed into concrete to make 9 high-strength desert sand concrete beams with different shear span ratios, basalt fiber content and different hoop ratios. Shear failure tests were carried out by two-point symmetric loading. Based on acoustic emission technology and fractal theory, the damage evolution process of shear beams was studied, and the law between the damage evolution of shear beams and different variable factors was quantitatively analyzed. The results show that the cumulative acoustic emission energy increases exponentially with the failure process of the beam. The energy parameters and the fractal dimension of the beam surface crack increase with the increase of the load level, and the maximum fractal dimension reaches 1. 206. Under the same load level, the damage of the beam is the least when the shear span ratio is 1. 5 and the fiber content is 0. 4%. Based on acoustic emission parameters and fractal dimension of cracks on the test beam surface,a shear damage model is established. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The influence of rice husk ash, fly ash and slag on the mechanical properties of subway concrete was studied・ Sand rate 40%, fly ash was 10%, slag was 10%, the rice husk ash was 10%, and the strength of the optimal mix ratio group was 21. 89% higher than that of the blank group, which was 64・ 6 MPa. The influence of the content of basalt fiber on the mechanical properties and impermeability of subway concrete was studied by using the optimal mix ratio. The optimum strength was 66. 6 MPa when the volume content of basalt fiber was 0. 1%. The anti-permeability effect was the best, which increased by 55 ・ 67% compared with the blank group. In order to reduce the cost of ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC)and realize green and sustainable development, basalt powder was used to prepare UHPC. The effect of water-binder ratio and basalt powder dosage (replacing river sand with the same mass) on the mechanical properties of UHPC were studied. Meanwhile, the effect of curing temperature on UHPC microstructure of basalt powder was discussed by mercury injection test, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and environmental scanning electron microscope (SEM). It was found that the flexural strength and compressive strength of UHPC decreases significantly with the increase of water-binder ratio. The flexural strength and compressive strength of UHPC increased first and then decreased with the increase of basalt powder content. When the content of basalt powder reaches 55%, the flexural and compressive strength of UHPC was 43.99% and 15.85% higher than that of the reference group respectively. In addition, the increase of curing temperature can effectively reduce the pores in the concrete, and then increased the compactness of UHPC internal structure, and further optimize the microstructure of concrete. The effects of addition of new basalt microfiber powder mixed with polypropylene fiber on the working performance, compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, durability and shrinkage of C50 marine concrete used in aburied tunnel in coastal environment are studied. The effect of enhancement of the concrete properties by addition of the hybrid fibers is studied by comparing against two separate groups of specimens with each containing one type of fibers. The results show that the addition of basalt microfiber powder and polypropylene fiber can significantly improve the splitting tensile strength of concrete, and has great advantages in improving the impermeability and anti-shrinkage property of concrete. When the addition of basalt microfiber and polypropylene fiber is 2.5 kg/m³ and 0.9 kg/m³ respectively, the improvement of concrete performance is the most significant. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
