Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) tends to cause skeletal muscle dysfunction, leading to muscle atrophy. When respiratory muscles are involved, it further exacerbates the progression of COPD and affects patient prognosis, creating a vicious cycle. Quantitative MRI not only avoids radiation damage to patients but also accurately measures changes in muscle morphology and composition. This aids in the early detection of decreased respiratory muscle quality in COPD patients. This article provides a review of the research progress on the quantitative MRI assessment of respiratory muscle dysfunction in COPD patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
