Objective: To study the efficacy of endoscopic transcaruncular approach in the repair of isolated medial orbital fracture., Methods: It was a retrospective case series study.Retrospective chart was reviewed in 21 patients (21 eyes) receiving endoscopic transcaruncular approach to reconstruct isolated medial orbital fracture at Quzhou People's Hospital from May 2011 to May 2012., Results: of visual acuity, diplopia, protrusion degree of both eyes and the movement of eye balls was recorded for analysis., Results: All patients were followed up for 8-20 months. There was no extrusion, rejection, infection or other complications of Medpor surgical implant during follow-up. There was no instance of decreased visual acuity at post-operation. The post-operative protrusion degree of both eyes was almost identical at less than 2 mm. The movement of eye balls was satisfactory in all directions. Diplopia disappeared in 13 cases, 1 case improved., Conclusion: Endoscopic transcaruncular approach is a safe and effective treatment in the repair of isolated medial orbital fracture.

Objective: To investigate the application of medpor and split-thickness skin graft in formation of cranioauricular sulcus during auricular reconstruction with Nagata method., Methods: The first stage operation was fulfilled according to the Nagata two-stage method which involves fabrication and grafting of the costal cartilage framework. The second-stage ear elevation operation was undertaken 6 months later to form the cranioauricular sulcus. Split-thickness skin was taken from temporal and accipital area. After releasing the auricular framework and transplanting C shaped medpor at the rear side of framework, the temporaparietal fascia flap was transferred to cover postauricular medpor and framework. Then the split-thickness skin graft was implant on the fascia surface., Results: From July 2010 to August 2012, 20 cases (22 ears) were treated. Partial necrosis of temporaparietal fascia flap and framework exposure happened in 1 case. Successful ear reconstruction was achieved in other cases with satisfactory cranioauricular sulcus during the follow-up period of 6-18 months (average, 13 months)., Conclusions: The application of medpor and split-thickness skin graft in the ear elevation of Nagata method for auricular reconstruction for microtia can achieve satisfactory results. It not only avoids the obvious scar in the donor site due to harvesting full-thickness and intermediate-thickness skin, but also reduces chest trauma due to harvesting costal cartilage.

Objective: To study the efficacy of porous polyethylene (Medpor) plus titanic mesh sheets in the repair of orbital blowout fractures., Methods: A total of 20 patients underwent open surgical reduction with the combined usage of Medpor and titanic mesh. And they were followed up for average period of 14.5 months (range: 9 - 18)., Results: There is no infection or extrusion of medpor and titanic mesh in follow-up periods. There was no instance of decreased visual acuity at post-operation. And all cases of enophthalmos were corrected. The post-operative protrusion degree of both eyes was almost identical at less than 2 mm. The movement of eye balls was satisfactory in all directions. Diplopia disappeared in 18 cases with a cure rate of 90%, 1 case improved and 1 case persisted., Conclusion: Medpor plus titanic mesh implant is a safe and effective treatment in the repair of orbital blow out fractures.

Objective: To evaluate the postoperative complications, the appearance and motility in patients who underwent placement of Medpor orbital implant after enucleation, or secondary implantion., Methods: A retrospective study was carried out on the 266 cases in whom a Medpor orbital implant was implanted from 2001 to 2004., Results: All the cases were followed up from 3 to 26 months. A total of 23 in 266 (8.6%) cases had documented postoperative complications: inflammatory granuloma in 2 cases (0.8%), and moderate or severe ptosis in 4 cases (1.5%), and remained upper eyelid notch with mild ptosis in 8 cases (3.0%), and lower eyelid laxity in 2 cases (0.8%). In 5 cases (1.9%), implant exposure developed: 3 cases were resolved with conservative therapy, and 2 cases with surgical revision of the socket. 2 cases experienced persistent pyogenic discharge in conjunctival sac, and the implant was took out because the discharge couldn't control with local and systemic antibiotic therapy. The motility is excellent in 148 cases and good in 11 cases after the primary obital implant, and excellent in 36 cases and good in 68 cases and bad in 3 case after the secondary implant. The difference between the primary and the secondary obital implant is obvious., Conclusions: It is considered that Medpor orbital implant is a good method of ocular plasty. Although there are some mild postoperative complications, but those can be resolved with conservative therapy or surgical revision. Medpor orbital implant has good histocompatibility, and the operative processes are convenient. Patients are satisfied with appearance and motility. So the Medpor orbital implant is one of the best selection in ocular socket plasty.

Objective: To investigate the clinical efficacy and safety of Acticoat (nanocrystalline silver dressing) for the treatment of residual burn wounds., Methods: Ninety-eight patients with 166 residual burn wounds were enrolled in the multi-center randomized clinical trials. In addition to the routine treatment, Acticoat was applied onto the wounds of the trial group once a day if there was much exudation from the wound, or the dressing change was made every other two days when the wounds were clean. Silver sulfadiazine (SD-Ag) was used in the control group of patients. The healing time was observed up to 20 days. The healing rate on the 15th day after treatment was taken as the percentage of healing., Results: The average healing time was (12 +/- 5) days after the application of Acticoat, which was significantly shorter than that in control wounds with SD-Ag (16 +/- 6) days, (P = 0.005 < 0.01). The total effective rate of the wounds for trial was 97.05%, which was higher than that in control (94.17%) group, but there was no statistically significant difference. The bacterial clearing rate of the Acticoat group on the 6th and 12th post treatment day was 21.7% and 43.5% respectively, which was significantly higher than that in control group. No side-effect was observed in the two groups during the study., Conclusion: Acticoat with nanocrystalline silver can promote the healing of residual burn wounds effectively.

A total of one hundred fifty three healthy male and female adults were entered into a six month, double-blind clinical study designed to evaluate the effect of a dentifrice containing 0.3% triclosan and 2.0% PVM/MA copolymer in a 0.243% sodium fluoride/silica base, relative to a 0.243% sodium fluoride silica base control dentifrice on supragingival plaque accumulation and gingivitis. Plaque and gingivitis were scored after 3 and 6 months' use of the assigned dentifrice. At the end of the study, the dentifrice containing triclosan/copolymer demonstrated an average reduction, relative to the control dentifrice of 16.1% in plaque accumulation and 24.3% in gingivitis. Both were statistically significant(P < 0.001). It was concluded that the twice-daily use of the triclosan/copolymer containing dentifrice resulted in a significant reduction in plaque formation and a significant improvement in gingival health. No side-effects were observed.
